12n. குரூரன்
நிலைமையை அறிந்து பட்டமகிஷி
தலை விரிகோலமாக ஓடிவந்தாள்.
“நம்பிக்கையுடன் சென்றான் போருக்கு;
நம்பிக்கை இல்லை இனி காண்பேன் என!
சிறைப் பட்டுவிட்டார் அரசர் போரில்;
சிதைத்து விடுவார்களே அசுரர்கள்!”
“கலகலக்கும் வெற்றியுடன் வருவார்!
வெலவெலக்காமல் காத்திருங்கள் தாயே!”
ஆயிரக்கணக்கான வீரர்கள் தோன்றினர்,
ஆயுதம் எந்தியபடி, அவர் முகத்திலிருந்து.
குரூரன் தலை சிறந்தவன் அவர்களில்;
குரூரனைப் பணித்தார் மகோற்கடர்;
“நராந்தகனை வென்று சிறை மீட்பாய்,
நண்பர் காசி ராஜனையும், பிறரையும்!”
குரூரன் புரிந்தான் அற்புதமான போர்;
குரூரன் துன்புறவில்லை அம்புகளால்!
அஸ்திரங்களை நராந்தகன் எய்தவுடன்,
விஸ்தீர்ண வாயால் விழுங்கிவிட்டான்!
பாசுபதாஸ்திரத்தை விடுத்தான் அசுரன்,
பகவான் அருளுடன் விடுத்தான் குரூரன்.
எறிந்தது அசுரனை ரதத்துடன் வானில்;
பறந்தவன் வந்து விழுந்தான் நிலத்தில்.
விழுந்த வேகத்தில் அழுந்தினான் அசுரன்;
அழுந்தியே விட்டான் பாதாளம் வரையில்!
சிறை மீட்டு உடன் அழைத்துச் சென்றான்
குரூரன் காசிராஜனையும், மற்றவரையும்.

42n. Krooran
When the Queen of Kasi learned that the king had been arrested, she came running to Mahorkadar greatly agitated. “He went to the war trusting in your words. I have no hope that I will ever see him alive again. The asuras will not spare their war prisoners”
Mahorkadar consoled her and said, “The king will return safely and victoriously. Wait patiently and do not get tensed.”
Thousands of soldiers armed to their teeth appeared from the face of Mahorkadar. Krooran was the best among them.
Mahorkadar ordered Krooran, “Go and free the King of Kasi and the others, after defeating Naraantakakn in the war.”
Krooran fought wonderfully. None of the arrows shot by the asuras seemed to hurt him. When Naraantakan shot his asthrams, Krooran swallowed them whole by his wide open mouth.
Now Naraantkakn shot his Paasu pathaasthram. Krooran did likewise after praying to his God. Naraantakan got thrown high in the sky along with his chariot.
He came down with such a great force and hit the earth that he went down right up to paataalaa. Before he could come up to the earth’s surface Krooran had freed all the prisoners and escaped.

ஒரு நாளும் சும்பன் உன்னை வெல்லமாட்டான் என்று!
வென்றுள்ளான் தேவாதி தேவர்களைப் போரில்;
வெல்வான் உன்னையும் பேதைப் பெண்ணே!
அறிய மாட்டாய் போரைப் பற்றி சிறுபெண் நீ!
அறிந்திருந்தும் வீரம் பேசினாயோ அறியேன்.
வீரம் பேசுமுன் எடை போட வேண்டும் இருவர்
வீரத்தின் தன்மையையும், பலத்தையும் நன்றாக.
விழைகின்றான் உன்னைச் சும்பன் மோஹத்தால்;
விழையவில்லை உன்ன வெல்லத் துரோஹத்தால்.
அடைய விரும்பிப் போர் புரிந்தால் உன்னைப்

கேசம் பற்றிப் பஞ்சணைக்குப் பெண்ணே உன்னை!
நாணமே பெண்ணுக்கு அழகு, போரில் வீரமல்ல.
நாணம் கொண்டு இன்புறுவாய் நீ சும்பாசுரனிடம்.
கேளிக்கை விநோதங்களை நீ அனுபவிப்பாய்
களம் புகுந்து போர் புரிந்து அழிந்து விடாதே!”

Jagan Mohini told Sumbaasuran’s messenger Sugreevan,”I shall marry Sumbaasuran if he can defeat me in a war!”
Sugreevan understood her real ideas and spoke to her thus,
“I can feel a note of confidence in your statement that Sumban can never win over you! He has won over the Devaas and Manushyaas.
He will surly win over you also. You are a young girl and may be you do not know anything about warfare. Or may be you do know and yet you talk in this irresponsible manner.
Before boasting about one’s own power and strength, one must consider the power and strength of the opponent also.
Sumbaasuran wishes only to marry you. He does not wish to conquer you in a battle. If he decides to fight with you, he will destroy you to small pieces.
You select either Sumban or Nisumban. Select the life which will be filled with happiness and joy. There is nothing wrong in the attraction between the opposite sexes. It is common for all the species of living things and beings.
If you tease and make Sumban angry, he may drag you by your hair directly to his bed. A woman must wear Coyness and shyness as her jewels and not valor and courage.
You can lead a life filled with joys and enjoyment in stead of getting killed by the mighty Sumban in the battle field”.
Sugreevan concluded his long speech.

தோற்றோடிய பூதர்களும், துன்பம்
ஆற்றாது தளர்ந்து விழுந்தவர்களும்,
மறைந்து சூரபத்மன் ஒளிந்த பிறகு
முருகக் கடவுளை வந்தடைந்தனர்.
“சூரபத்மனின் மகேந்திரபுரியை நாம்
ஆரவாரம் செய்யும் கடலில் எறிவோம்!”
ஒருவரை ஒருவர் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு
புறப்பட்டு அடைந்தனர் மதிற்சுவற்றை.
மதிலை அடைந்த பூதப்படையைக் கண்டு
மதிற்காவலன் அதிகோரன் சினந்தான்;
போர்க்கருவிகள் முழங்க அவுணர்கள்
போர் புரிந்தனர் பூதப் படைகளுடன்;
ஈட்டியால் குத்தியும் வாளால் துணித்தும்
எறிந்தனர் மரங்களையும் மலைகளையும்!
பூதங்கள் போரிட, அவுணர்கள் அழிந்திட
பருந்துகளும்,காகங்களும் வந்து கூடின.
அதிகோரனை மேகர் அடித்தார் மார்பில்
அதிகோரன் மடிந்தான் சுருண்டு விழுந்து.
பேரொலி செய்த பூதங்கள் பிறகு சென்றனர்;
ஆயிரம் யோசனை உயர்ந்த கோபுரத்தை
பிடுங்கிக் கடலில் அதை வீசி எறிந்தனர்.
நடுங்கியது நிலம்; நடுங்கினான் சேடன்;
ஆழ்ந்தது கோபுரம் மந்தர மலை போல்
சூழ்ந்தது நகரைக் கடல் நீர் மேல் எழுந்து.
இடித்தும், மிதித்தும் மதில்களை வீழ்த்திக்
கடலில் தள்ளியும் நகரை அழித்தனர்.

After Soorapadman disappeared the army of Murugan returned to him. They called out to one another, “Come on! Let us go and destroy the capital city of Soorapadman!”
The army reached the encircling wall protecting the city. Athigoran was guarding the wall and he became very angry when his eyes fell on the approaching army of demons.
The asuras fought the army of demons. The used freely spears, swords, uprooted trees and mountains.
There was a heavy loss of life on the side of the asura army and the carrion birds assembled to feast or the dead bodies.
Megar hit Athigorn on his chest and killed him. The army of demons rejoiced loudly. They demolished the encircling wall of the city and threw it into the sea.
The earth shook and Adiseshan trembled. The Gopuram submerged like the Mount Mandara. The sea water rose up. The army of demons destroyed the protective wall and the city completely.

மயக்கம் தெளிந்தான் நராந்தகன்;
தயக்கம் இன்றித் தாக்கலானான்
உருவெடுத்தான் கரிய மேகங்களாக;
பிரளய ஜலம் போலப் பொழிந்தான்.
சண்டமாருதமாக வீசினான் – அவர்கள்
சண்டை இட்ட போர்க்களத்தில் அசுரன்.
அரண்மனையிலிருந்த மகோற்கடர் அவன்
அமர்க்களத்துக்கு வந்துவிட்டதை அறிந்தார்

ரதத்தைப் பொடி செய்தார் மகோற்கடர்.

நராந்தகன் திறமையைக் காண விரும்பி
சிராக்காலம் போரிட்டார் மகோற்கடர்.
சிறுவன் களைத்துவிட்டான் போலும்
வெறுமனே சமாளிக்கிறான் சவாலை!
நராந்தகன் எண்ணினான் மனதில்,
உரைத்தான் எள்ளி நகையாடியபடி.

Mahorkadar knew that Naraantakan had come to the battle field. He wanted to put an end to Naraantakan’s atrocities. He twanged his taut bowstring and the sound was enough to dispel the Maya prevailing in the battle field.
Nataantakan became Agni and scorched the world. He created many soldiers and they appeared in various forms. Some of them appeared as the flooding water. Some others as the scorching tongues of fire. A few others as trees carried by the fierce wind and yet some others as the heavy downpour of rain.
The peaks of the mountains tumbled down and confusion prevailed in the army of the god. Naraantakan assumed different forms. Mahorkadar assumed different forms to cancel out his forms.
Mahorkadr destroyed the chariot of Naraantakan. He cut off the hands of Naraantakan. But they grew as good as new again and again. Mahorkadar enjoyed the fight and extended it longer than necessary.
Naraantakan thought about it in a different manner. He thought that the little boy had become tired and was just defending his side with great difficulty. He sneered and made fun of Mahorkadar.

அழகிய கனவுக்கு இடம் தர மாட்டேன்.
போரில் வெல்பவனைப் புரிவேன் திருமணம்!
போர் புரியவே வந்துளேன் திருமணம் அல்ல.
உயிர் மேல் ஆசை இருந்தால் செல் பாதாளம்;
உயிர் மேல் ஆசை இன்றேல் செல் போர்க்களம்.
தூதனின் கடமையில் தவறி விடாதே நீ!
சூதின்றி உரைப்பாய் என் மறுமொழியை ”

உரைத்தனர் தூதுவர் பானுகோபனுக்கு;

Mahorkadar spoke to Naraantakan, “You may still live long, if you feel sorry for your mistakes and beg for my pardon. Otherwise you will be the one to get killed”
Naraantakan did not like this sermon and did not reply with words, but he replied by shooting his asthrams and sathrams. Using the Pinakam, Mahorkadar decapitated Naraantakan.
The severed head got carried to the Devalokam. The rushis chanted Vedas and the Deva played the dundubi. Flowers rained.
But Naraantakan grew fresh head as good as new! Mahorkadar severed that head too. It took off and fell in the Devalokam. This went on for a long time. People who saw the severed heads whizzing past got terribly frightened.
Mahorkadar assumed viswaroopam. Naraantakan also stood from heaven to earth. Mahorkadar cut open Naraantakan’s chest with the nail of his toe and Naraantakan fell dead.

‘செய்தாளாம் சபதம் சிறு வயதில் தோழியரிடம்
செய்வாளாம் திருமணம் போரில் வெல்பவனை!
‘வென்றால் மணந்து கொள்வேன் சும்பாசுரனை!’
என்றாள் அவள் என்னிடம் மிகவும் உறுதியாக.
அச்சம் என்பதே இல்லை அந்தப் பெண்ணிடம்
அச்சமின்றி அமர்ந்துள்ளாள் சிங்கத்தின் மீது.
ஆணை இடுங்கள் நிறைவேற்றுகின்றேன் – இனி
அடுத்துச் செய்யவேண்டியது பற்றி!” என்றான்.
சும்பன் கேட்டான் தம்பி நிசும்பனிடம் இவ்வாறு,
” தம்பி நீ அறிவு நிறைந்து செறிந்தவன் அன்றோ?
அழைக்கிறாள் ஒரு சின்னப் பெண் போருக்கு;
பிழைக்க மாட்டாள் நம்முடன் போரிட்டால்!
செல்கின்றாயா போருக்கு நீ? செல்லட்டுமா நான்?
சொல் நன்கு ஆராய்ந்த பின்பு எனக்கு!” என்றான்.
“செல்லவேண்டாம் நாம் இருவருமே போருக்கு!
செல்லட்டும் வீரன் தும்ரலோசனன் போருக்கு.
உண்டு அவனிடம் தேவையான வல்லமை
கொண்டு வருவதற்கு விந்தைப் பெண்ணை!”
வரவழைத்தான் தும்ரலோசனனை சும்பாசுரன்,
“விரைந்து செல்வாய் நீ நாற்படைகளுடன்;
வென்று இழுத்துவா அந்த அகம்பாவியை இங்கு,
சென்று மறையும் அவள் ஆணவம் என் முன்னர் .
துணைக்கு வரும் தேவர், மனிதர், அசுரரைத்
துணிந்து கொன்று குவிப்பாய் போர்க்களத்தில்.

Sumban now consulted his younger brother Nisumban, “A young woman challenges us to a war. Will you go or shall I go to the war?”
Nisumban told Sumban, “Neither of us have to go to the war. Dumralochnan can defeat her and bring her to you!”
So Dumralochanan was called and instructed by Sumban thus,” Go to meet that woman with our army. Bring her here safely after killing Kali and any other deva or manushya or Asura who might come to help her. Her pride and arrogance will vanish once she is captured and brought before me”

பொழுது புலர்ந்தது, எழுந்தான் பானுகோபன்;
தொழுது மாயையை அழைத்தான் வருமாறு.
போரிலே தோற்று ஓடி ஒளிந்ததைக் கூறி
நேரிலே அவளிடம் உதவிகள் கோரினான்.
“மறை வழியை விட்டு விலகிச் சென்றாய்!
சிறை செய்தாய் விண்ணுலகத் தேவர்களை;
அழித்தாய் இந்திரனின் அரசாட்சியினை!
அழித்தாய் முனிவர்கள் செய்த தவத்தை;
வளர்த்தாய் நீ பலவிதக் கொடுமைகளை!
வளர்த்தாய் நாற்புறமும் பகைவர்களை.
மண்டும் பகைவர்களிடம் நீ தோற்றாய்!
வேண்டும் உதவி என்னவோ கோருவாய்!”
“பகைவர்களை வெல்ல வல்ல அரிய
படைக்கலன் ஒன்று வேண்டும் எனக்கு.”
மாயப் படைக் கலன் ஒன்றை உருவாக்கி
மாயை அளித்தாள் பானுகோபனுக்கு.
“வெற்றியை உனதாக்கும் இப்படைக்கலன்.
இற்றை நாள் போரில் வெற்றி உனதே!”
மாயப் படைக்கலனைப் பெற்றதும் பிற
தூய படைக்கலன்களுடன் புறப்பட்டான்.
காற்றுப் படை, தீப் படை, யமப் படை,
சூரியப் படை, சந்திரப் படை, சிவப்படை,
நான்முகப் படை, நாராயணப் படை என்னும்
நானாவிதப் படைக் கலன்களுடன் சென்றான்.
பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் கரிகள், பரிகள்,
பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் தேர்க்கூட்டம்,
காலாட்படை இருபதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம்
களம் நோக்கி நடந்தது பானுகோபனுடன்!

5a. மூன்றாம்நாள் போர்.
பொழுது புலர்ந்தது, எழுந்தான் பானுகோபன்;
தொழுது மாயையை அழைத்தான் வருமாறு.
போரிலே தோற்று ஓடி ஒளிந்ததைக் கூறி
நேரிலே அவளிடம் உதவிகள் கோரினான்.
“மறை வழியை விட்டு விலகிச் சென்றாய்!
சிறை செய்தாய் விண்ணுலகத் தேவர்களை;
அழித்தாய் இந்திரனின் அரசாட்சியினை!
அழித்தாய் முனிவர்கள் செய்த தவத்தை;
வளர்த்தாய் நீ பலவிதக் கொடுமைகளை!
வளர்த்தாய் நாற்புறமும் பகைவர்களை.
மண்டும் பகைவர்களிடம் நீ தோற்றாய்!
வேண்டும் உதவி என்னவோ கோருவாய்!”
“பகைவர்களை வெல்ல வல்ல அரிய
படைக்கலன் ஒன்று வேண்டும் எனக்கு.”
மாயப் படைக் கலன் ஒன்றை உருவாக்கி
மாயை அளித்தாள் பானுகோபனுக்கு.
“வெற்றியை உனதாக்கும் இப்படைக்கலன்.
இற்றை நாள் போரில் வெற்றி உனதே!”
மாயப் படைக்கலனைப் பெற்றதும் பிற
தூய படைக்கலன்களுடன் புறப்பட்டான்.
காற்றுப் படை, தீப் படை, யமப் படை,
சூரியப் படை, சந்திரப் படை, சிவப்படை,
நான்முகப் படை, நாராயணப் படை என்னும்
நானாவிதப் படைக் கலன்களுடன் சென்றான்.
பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் கரிகள், பரிகள்,
பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் தேர்க்கூட்டம்,
காலாட்படை இருபதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம்
களம் நோக்கி நடந்தது பானுகோபனுடன்!

4 # 5 a. The war on the third day.
Bhaanukoban was up by the dawn on the next day. He prayed to Maayaa to appear in front of him. He related how he and his father were defeated by the army of Murugan. He sought her help to win the war.
” You have deviated from the path prescribed by the Veda. You imprisoned the Deva. You toppled Indra’s rule. You ruined the tapas done by rushis. You encouraged many atrocities. You made enemies all around you. So you got defeated. Now tell me what exactly you want”
“I want a rare asthram which will help me to win today’s war.” She created a maaya asthram and gave it to him. “This asthram will ensure your victory in today’s war.”
Bhaanukoban received the maaya asthram and took his other asthrams as well. He had the asthrams of Vayu, Agni, Yama, Soorya, Chandra, Siva, Brahma and Narayana.
Ten thousand veLLam of horses, equal number of elephants and chariots and twenty thousand veLLam of asura warriors accompanied him to the war front.

13a. தேவாந்தகன்
எழும்பிப் பறந்து சென்ற நராந்தகன் தலை,
விழுந்தது தேவாந்தகன் சபையின் நடுவில்!
கோபத்துடன் அருகில் சென்ற அசுரன் – பரி
தாபத்துடன் கண்டான் நராந்தகன் தலையை.
திடுக்கிட்ட தேவாந்தகன் திடீர் நிகழ்வால்
முடுக்கிவிட்டான் ஆட்களை விவரம் அறிய.
திரும்பி வந்த தூதர்கள் கூறினார் கதையை,
சிறுவன் அசுரர்களைக் கொன்று குவித்ததை!
தூமாட்சன் முதல் நராந்தகன் வரையில்
ஏமாந்து மகோற்கடரிடம் உயிர் விட்டதை!
கதறி அழுதான் மனத் துயரம் தாங்காமல்,
“பதரைக் கொல்லாமல் விடவே மாட்டேன்!”
சூளுரைத்தான் பழிக்குப் பழி வாங்குவதாக.
வாளேந்திய வீரர்கள் சென்றனர் மண்ணுலகு!
விண்ணுலகப் படை மொத்தமும் வந்தது,
மண்ணுலகப் படையின் மிச்சமும் வந்தது!
நாற் கரங்களில் நான்கு ஆயுதங்களுடன்,
போர்களம் வந்தார் தேவியரோடு இறைவன்.
கடல் போன்ற முடிவில்லாத அசுரர் படை.
நடுவில் ரதத்தில் இருந்தான் தேவாந்தகன்.
புத்தி தேவியிடம் கூறினார் மகோற்கடர்,
“யுத்தம் புரிவாய் வீரரைத் தோற்றுவித்து!”
அஷ்டசித்திகள் எட்டு தேவியர் ஆயினர்!
கஷ்டமின்றித் தோற்றுவித்தனர் வீரரை.
மாயையால் தோன்றும் வீரரைக் கண்டு,
“தாய்க் குலம் என்று தயை காட்டாதீர்கள்!
மாயையில் வல்ல பெண்கள் அவர்களைச்
சாயுங்கள் வெட்டி இரக்கம் என்பது இன்றி!”

13a. தேவாந்தகன்
எழும்பிப் பறந்து சென்ற நராந்தகன் தலை,
விழுந்தது தேவாந்தகன் சபையின் நடுவில்!
கோபத்துடன் அருகில் சென்ற அசுரன் – பரி
தாபத்துடன் கண்டான் நராந்தகன் தலையை.
திடுக்கிட்ட தேவாந்தகன் திடீர் நிகழ்வால்
முடுக்கிவிட்டான் ஆட்களை விவரம் அறிய.
திரும்பி வந்த தூதர்கள் கூறினார் கதையை,
சிறுவன் அசுரர்களைக் கொன்று குவித்ததை!
தூமாட்சன் முதல் நராந்தகன் வரையில்
ஏமாந்து மகோற்கடரிடம் உயிர் விட்டதை!
கதறி அழுதான் மனத் துயரம் தாங்காமல்,
“பதரைக் கொல்லாமல் விடவே மாட்டேன்!”
சூளுரைத்தான் பழிக்குப் பழி வாங்குவதாக.
வாளேந்திய வீரர்கள் சென்றனர் மண்ணுலகு!

நடுவில் ரதத்தில் இருந்தான் தேவாந்தகன்.
புத்தி தேவியிடம் கூறினார் மகோற்கடர்,
“யுத்தம் புரிவாய் வீரரைத் தோற்றுவித்து!”
அஷ்டசித்திகள் எட்டு தேவியர் ஆயினர்!
கஷ்டமின்றித் தோற்றுவித்தனர் வீரரை.
மாயையால் தோன்றும் வீரரைக் கண்டு,
“தாய்க் குலம் என்று தயை காட்டாதீர்கள்!
மாயையில் வல்ல பெண்கள் அவர்களைச்
சாயுங்கள் வெட்டி இரக்கம் என்பது இன்றி!”

#43a. Devaantakan
The head of Naraantakan fell in the middle of the durbar of Devaantakan. He got angry considering this as a nuisance but he was shocked to find that the head belonged to Naraantakan. He sent out his messengers to find out everything that had happened on earth.
The messengers returned with stories of how Mahorkadar had killed all the asuras including Doomaakshan and Naraantakan. Devaanthakan wept bitter tears. He swore to avenge the death of his brother and the other asuras.
His army went to earth. The army left alive on the earth also joined with that. They were ready to fight Mahorkadar tooth and nail. Mahorkadar came to the battle field with four aayudams in his four hands and accompanied by his two Devis. He saw the asura army extending like an endless ocean. Devaantakan was on his chariot in the middle of his army.
Mahorkadar told Buddhi Devi, “Go and fight that army of asuras with the army created by you”. She created eight Devis out of the the ashta siddhis. Those eight Devis created their own armies by Maya.
Devaantakan watched the army being produced by them through Maya. He told his men, “Do not show any mercy to those women since they are experts in the Maya warfare. Kill them all as soon as you get a chance”.

வீர அசுரர்கள் அறுபதினாயிரம் பேர்களோடு.
பூங்காவனத்தில் கண்டான் ஒளிரும் பெண்ணை
புன்னகையுன் கூறினான் தன் தூது மொழியை.
“கேள்விப் பட்டான் சும்பசுரன் உன் அழகினை,
வேட்கை கொண்டான் உன்னை அடைவதற்கு.
கூறினான் சுக்ரீவன் போரில் வெல்வது பற்றி – நீ
கூறிய போரைப் பற்றி அறியவில்லலை அவன்.
விரும்பிகின்றாய் நீ ரதி மன்மத யுத்தத்தை;
விவரித்தேன் அதன் நுட்பத்தை மன்னனுக்கு.
நிகழ முடியும் வீரப் போர் இரு ஆண்களிடையே;
நிகழ முடியும் காமப்போர் ஆண் பெண்ணிடையே.
இருக்கட்டுகம் காளியும் ஒரு சாட்சியாக உனக்கு;
விருப்பம் போலக் கூடிக் களிப்பாய் சும்பனுடன்;
வல்லவன் சும்பாசுரன் காமக் கலைகளில்;
நல்லவன் தன்னை விரும்பும் அழகியரிடம்
மகிழலாம் விதவித காம லீலைகளில் நீ
மகிழ்விக்கலாம் சும்பாசுரனையும் லீலையில்
போர் புரிந்து வருந்தாதே பெண்ணே -காமப்
போர் புரிந்து இன்புறுவாய் நீ !” என்றான்
