9b. The wooden chest

 The King and Queen welcomed heartily their kula guru Sage Sukar. The sage wanted to know why he had been brought there to the palace?

The king replied, “We wish to have children of our own. The good deeds performed by us did not bear any fruit. Please tell us which puja we will have perform or which vratham we have to observe to be blessed with children”

The sage replied,”Performing the putra kaameshti yagam will surely bless you with children!” The king said, ” I am sure you advice will yield the desired result. Please help us to perform the putra kaameshti yaagam in the prescribed manner.”

The sage agreed to the king’s request. An auspicious day was fixed for the yaagaa. The articles needed for the yaaga were all collected and stored ready. Invitations were sent out to all the king’s friends. The experts in Veda were invited to perform the yaagaa.

On the auspicious day and time, king Aaakaasa Raajan started to plough the yaaga saalaa. The Veda gosham and the music by the experts also filled the air. The king went on ploughing but hit something and could not go any further.

He tried to plough forcefully and there was a sound as the plough had struck on something hard. The king’s men dug at the obstruction and found a beautiful wooden chest buried in the earth. They took it out and brought it to the king very carefully.

The chest was carved beautifully and gave out a wonderfully pleasant smell.

6#3b. விருத்திராசுரன் தவம் (2)

“பாதகம் செய்தாய் நீ ஈவு இரக்கமின்றி
மாதவம் செய்த தபஸ்வியைக் கொன்று!

பரிஹாரம் அழித்துவிடாது பாவங்களை;
பரிஹாசம் செய்தாய் நல்ல அறிவுரைகளை.

தோன்றிவிட்டான் பலவான் ஆன பகைவன்;
தோல்வி என்பதே இல்லாத விருத்திராசுரன்.

ஆயுதங்கள் பெற்றுள்ளான் உனக்கு நிகராக;
ஆயத்தம் செய்வது வீணே அவனை வெல்ல.

அழைத்தான் தேவர்களில் வீரர்களை இந்திரன்;
அனுப்பினான் போருக்கு ஆயுத பாணிகளாக.

சென்றான் ஐராவதம் மீதேறிய இந்திரன்;
சென்றனர் அசுரப் படையை எதிர்கொள்ள.

நீண்டது போர் ஒரு நூறு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு;
நிற்க முடியவில்லை தேவர்களால் பிறகு.

புற முதுகிட்டனர் ; சிதறி ஓடினர் தேவர்கள்;
சிரித்தான் விருத்திரன் சிதறியோடுவது கண்டு!

மகிழ்ந்தான் துவஷ்டப் பிரஜாபதி இது கண்டு,
மகனுக்குச் சில அறிவுரைகள் கூறினான் தந்தை.

“நம்பாதே இனிமேல் யாரையுமே நீ மகனே!
நம்பிக்கை துரோகிகள் நிறைந்த உலகம் இது.

பகைவன் ஆகிவிட்டான் இந்திரன் உனக்கு!
பகைவனுக்கு அஞ்சாமை அறிவின்மை ஆம்!”

6#3b. Viruthraasuran’s penance (2)

Bruhaspati told Indra, “You committed a grave sin by beheading Trisiran who was in deep meditation and who had done you no harm. Parihaaram will not wash out the sins committed.

You ridiculed the good advice given to you. Now a mighty rival has risen. He does not know what it is to be defeated. He has obtained special weapons as good as your own. It is impossible to conquer him in a war.”

Indra sent for all all the Devaa warriors. He himself mounted on Airaavat and went to face the army of the asuraas. A terrible war ensued and went on for one hundred years.

The Devaas could not withstand the onslaught by the asuraa army more than that. They ran away in utter confusion in every direction. Viruthraasuran had a hearty laugh watching the Devaas running away.

Thvashta Prajapati was happy with the success of his son. He now warned Viruthran, ” Do not trust anyone my son. The world is filled with treacherous people who will not hesitate to betray.

Indra is now your mortal enemy. Be very careful in all your dealings with him. Slighting an enemy – even if he is weak – is foolishness.”

13l. சேவலும், மயிலும்.

அகன்ற தன் வடிவினை கர்வத்துடன்
அசைத்தது அந்த அதிசய மாமரம் !

நிலவுலகம் சரிந்தது, பின்னர் மறிந்தது
நிலை தடுமாறின உலகத்து உயிர்கள்.

மாய மரமாகி நின்ற சூரபத்மனை
மாயோன் மருகனின் வேல் பார்த்தது.

விரைந்து சென்று தாக்கி அழித்தது.
அரற்றலோடு விழுந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

சிவன் தந்த பல மேன்மைகளினால்
அவன் உயிருக்கு இல்லை ஆபத்து.

பழைய வடிவம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டான்
சுழற்றினான் சூரன் தன் உடைவாளை .

மீண்டும் தாக்கியது முருகனின் வேல்!
அண்டர்கோனை துண்டாக்கி விட்டது .

இரு கூறுகளும் விழுந்தன ஆழ்கடலில்.
திரும்பியது வேல் தேவகங்கையில் மூழ்கி!

மாளாத சூரன் எழுந்தான் மீண்டும்!
தாளாத செருக்குடன் திருமுன்பு வந்தான்!

சேவலும் , மயிலுமாக அவன் மாறிவிட்டான்
செவ்வேள் அருள் தந்தது நல்லறிவினை.

“தேரில் சேவற் கொடியாக இருப்பாய் நீ !”
சேவலிடம் செவ்வேள் சொன்னான் இதை.

மயிலாக மாறியிருந்த இந்திரனை விடுத்து
மயிலாக மாறியிருந்த சூரன்மீது அமர்ந்தான்!

 4 # 13. l. The cock and the peacock.

The strange mango tree moved its branches. The world lost it balance and the living beings felt threatened. The spear saw the now transformed Sooran and attacked him. He cried out in pain and fell down. Sooran did not die because of the boons showered on him by Siva.

He assumed his original form, grabbed his sword and came in front of Murugan. The spear attacked him again – this time tearing his body into two halves.

The torn body fell in the sea. The spear took a holy dip in the Deva Ganga and returned to Murugan’s hands.

Sooran was torn but not dead. He got up from the sea. But his body got transformed to a cock and a peacock.

Murugan ordered the cock, “Be on my flag !” He got down from the peacock which was Indra and climbed onto the back of the peacock which was the other new form assumed by Soorapadman.

(God’s aim is to kill only the pride, the ahankaaram and the garvam to subdue them and not take out the life of the wrong-doers.)

9c. பத்மாவதி

தென்றல் தழுவிச் சென்றது குளிர்ச்சியாக!
தெளித்தது வானம் நன்னீர்த் துளிகளை!

பூமியை உழுத ஜனகனுக்குச் சீதையைப் போல,
பூமியை உழுத மன்னனுக்கு கிடைத்தது என்ன?

பேழையைச் சமர்பித்தான் மன்னன் குருவிடம்;
பேழையைத் திறந்தார் ஆர்வத்துடன் குலகுரு.

ஆயிரக் கணக்கான தாமரை இதழ்களில்
ஆனந்தமாக சயனித்திருந்தாள் குழந்தை!

பெருகியது கண்ணீர் பெருகிய உவகையால்!
பரிவுடன் வணங்கினான் குருவின் பாதங்களை!

ஆகாசத்தில் இருந்து ஒலித்தது ஓர் அசரீரி.
“ஆகாச ராஜன்! பூர்வ ஜன்ம புண்ணியம் இது.

பூர்த்தியடைந்தது உன் நித்திய கோரிக்கை.
புத்திரி கிடைத்தாள் உன் மனக் குறை தீர!”

மார்புறத் தழுவினான் மலர்க் குழந்தையை!
ஆர்வத்துடன் அடைந்தான் அரண்மனையை.

பெயர் இட்டான் குழந்தைக்கு பத்மாவதி என.
பெயர்க் காரணம் தாமரையிதழ்களில் சயனம்.

நடத்தினான் தான தருமங்கள் நாடெங்கும்;
நடத்தினான் பூஜைகள் ஆலயங்கள் எங்கும்.

தன் வீட்டிலேயே தேவி வந்து பிறந்ததுபோல
தன்னிறைவு அடைந்தனர் ஒவ்வொருவரும்.

9c. Padmaavati

The king gave the wooden chest to his guru. The chest was opened by the guru. Inside the chest, they found a beautiful girl child lying on thousands of lotus petals!

Tears of joy sprang in the eyes of the king! He paid obeisance to his guru.

An asareeri was heard from the sky. “Aakaasa Raajan! This is the fruit of your poorva janma puNyam. Your wish has been fulfilled now. You have got a beautiful daughter!”


The king embraced the child and took her to the palace. He named her as Padmaavati since she was found lying on the petals of lotus flowers.


The king donated wealth to the needy. He performed abhishekha aaraadhana in all the temples. The whole country was happy celebrating the arrival of the child – as if the child had been born in the house of each one of them!

6#3c. விருத்திராசுரன் தவம் (3)

“தவம் செய்ய வேண்டும் செல்வம் பெற்றிட,
தவம் செய்ய வேண்டும் பாக்கியம் பெற்றிட,

தவம் செய்ய வேண்டும் ஆட்சியைப் பெற்றிட,
தவம் செய்ய வேண்டும் வெற்றியைப் பெற்றிட,

தவம் செய்யாமல் சித்திக்காது எதுவுமே உனக்கு!
தவம் செய்வாய் மகனே நீயும் சென்று தனிமையில்!

வீராசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து நன்கு தியானிப்பாய்;
பிரம தேவனை மனதில் நிலை நிறுத்துவாய்.

காட்சி அளிப்பான் பிரம தேவன் உனக்கு;
மாட்சிமை பொருந்திய வரங்கள் பெறுவாய்!

அழிக்க வேண்டும் இந்திரனை முழுவதுமாக
பழி தீர்க்காமல் அடையேன் மன நிம்மதி!”என,

வணங்கினான் விருத்திராசுரன் தன் தந்தையை;
இணங்கினான் அவன் கடும் தவம் செய்வதற்கு!

கந்த மாதன மலைகுச் சென்றான் – தேவ
கங்கையில் நீராடிப் புனிதம் அடைந்தான்.

வீராசனத்தில் தியானித்தான் பிரம்மதேவனை
விருத்திராசுரனின் தவம் தீவிரம் அடைந்தது.

தவத்தைக் குலைக்கும் முயற்சிகள் வீண்;
தவம் கலையவில்லை சிறிதளவும் கூட.

கின்னரர்கள், யக்ஷர்கள் அப்சரஸ்கள்,
பன்னகர்கள், வித்யாதரர், சர்ப்பங்கள்,

முயன்றன விருத்திரன் தவத்தைக் கலைக்க;
முயன்று முயன்று தோற்றன முயற்சிகளில்.

6#3c. Viruthraasuran’s penance (3)

Thvashta Prajaapati told his son Viruthraasuran, “One must do penance in order to achieve wealth, good fortune, victory and kingdoms. Without sincere penance, nothing can be achieved in this world.


Son! Go forth and do penance directed to Brahma Devan and seek rare boons from him. We must destroy Indra completely and avenge the death of Trisiran. Until then I will not have any peace of mind”


Viruthraasuran paid obeisance to Thvashta and went to Gandhamaadana mountain for doing penance towards Brahma. He bathed in the Deva Ganga and became purified for performing penance. He sat in Veeraasana and immersed himself in deep penance.


Kinnara, Yaksha, Apasars, Pannaga, Vidhyaadara and Naagaa tried their best to disturb and disrupt his penance but without any success.

14. தேவர்கள் புகழ்ச்சி

சூரனின் ஆணவத்தை அடக்கியவனை
ஊர்தியும் கொடியும் ஆக்கியவனை
பணிந்து தொழுதது பூதர் கூட்டம்
பணிந்து தொழுதது அமரர் கூட்டம் .

“கார்தடிந்து துய்க்கும் கனைகடலின் நீர்வறப்பப்
போர்தடிந்து செல்லும் புகர்வேல் தனைவிடுத்துச்
சூர்தடிந்தாய் அன்றே தொழும்அடியேம் வல்வினையின்
வேர்தடிந்தாய் மற்றேமக்கு வேறோர் குறையுண்டோ ?

மாறுமுகங் கொண்டுபொரும் வல்லவுணர் மாளாமல்
நூறுமுகம் எட்டு நோதக் கனபுரியத்
தேறுமுகம் இன்றித் திரிந்தேமை ஆளுவன்றோ
ஆறுமுகங் கொண்டே அவதரித்தாய் எம்பெருமான்.

நீதி முறையதனில் நில்லா அசுரர்புரி
தீது பலவுளவுந் தீர்ந்தோம் பழியகன்றோம்
வேத நெறிதொல்லை வெறுக்கையோடு பெற்றனமால்
ஏதும் இலையால் எமக்கோர் குறைஎந்தாய்.

மன்ற அவுணர் வருத்திடஇந் நாள்வரையும்
போன்றி னவரென்னப் புலம்பித் திரிந்தனமால்
இன்று பகை மாற்றி எமக்கருள் நீ செய்கையினால்
சென்ற உயிர்மீண்ட திறம்பெற் றனம்ஐயா.”

The devas and demons worshiped and praised Murugan for destroying the pride of Soorapadman and making him his own vahana and flag.

10. நாரதர்

நாளொரு மேனி பொழுதொரு வண்ணம்;
நற்குணங்கள் அனைத்தின் ஓர் இருப்பிடம்.

நந்த வனத்தில் தோழியாரோடு ஆனந்தமாகப்
பந்து விளையாடுகையில் வந்தார் ஒரு கிழவர்.

வயது முதிர்ந்த கிழவராக வந்த நாரதர்
“பயத்தை விட்டுவிட்டு வா இங்கே!” என,

தயங்கினாள் பத்மாவதி அவரை அறியாது!
“தயக்கம் வேண்டாம் நான் அந்நியனல்ல!

கைரேகை கண்டு சொல்லுவேன் பலன்
தையல் உந்தன் எதிர் காலத்தைப் பற்றி!”

நீட்டினாள் தன் இடக் கரத்தை பத்மாவதி
நீட்டிய கரத்தைப் பிடித்து நோக்கினார் அவர்.

“தெய்வாம்சம் பொருந்திய கை கூறுகிறது!
வைகுந்த வாசனை நீ மணக்கப் போகிறாய்!”

“அத்தனை பாக்கியமா எனக்கு?” வியந்தாள்
அவள் கண்டாள் நாரத முனிவரை எதிரில்.

“அறிவிக்கவே வந்தேன் உனக்கு நான் இன்று !
அறிவாய் உன் கணவன் வைகுந்தவாசன் என்று!”

ஆட்டத்தில் செல்லவில்லை அவள் மனம்;
நாட்டம் கொண்டு விட்டது பரந்தாமனிடம்

நிறைத்தாள் உள்ளம் முழுவதும் நாரணனை.
உரைத்தாள் உள்ளன்போடு “நாராயணா!” என்று!

“பருவ வயதில் உனக்கு இத்தனை பக்தியா?” என
அருமைத் தோழிகள் கேலி செய்தனர் அவளை!

கேட்டாள் நாராயணன் செய்த லீலைகளை.
கண்டாள் நாராயணனின் திவ்விய ரூபத்தை.

உரைத்தாள் நாராயணின் திவ்ய நாமங்களை.
பணிந்தாள் நாராயணின் திவ்ய விக்ரஹத்தை.

வைகுந்தவாசனை மணக்கும் சுபவேளைக்குத்
தையல் காத்திருந்தாள் மிக்க ஆர்வத்துடன்.

#10. Naarada

Padmaavati grew up well. She was pretty as well good natured. She was playing in the garden with her friends one day. Naarada came there disguised as an old man. He asked Padmaavati to show her palm so that he could read her future.

At first Padmaavati hesitated as he was a total stranger. Later on she sat near him and showed him her left palm. The old man (Naarada) told her, ”You palm is divine and auspicious. It says you will marry lord Vishnu himself.”

Padmaavati was very happy to hear of her good fortune and saw Naarada standing in front of her instead of the old man. Naarada told her, “I came here to tell you that you will marry Vaikuntha vaasan himself.”

Now Padmaavati lost all interest in playing with her friends. She felt deep love for Naaraayan. She filled her mind with thoughts about him. She uttered his name very often. Her friends made fun of her for becoming so very pious at such a young age!

Padmaavati wanted to listen to the leelaa performed by Naaraayan. She kept repeating his name with love. She wanted to see his roopam. She paid obeisance to his vigraham.

Padmaavati was waiting eagerly for the auspicious day when lord Naaraayan would marry her.

6#4a. தேவாசுர யுத்தம் (1)

தவம் செய்தான் விருத்திரன் நூறு ஆண்டுகள்;
தவம் பலித்துக் காட்சி தந்தான் பிரம்ம தேவன்!

“எறும்புகளாலும், மரங்களாலும் மற்றும்
ஈரப் பொருட்களாலும், உலர்ந்தவற்றாலும்,

ஆயுதங்களாலும் நிகழக் கூடாது எனது மரணம்;
அளியுங்கள் தேவர்களை வெல்லும் வலிமையை.”

அளித்தான் பிரமன் கோரிய வரங்களை;
களித்தான் துவஷ்டா மகனக் கண்டவுடன்.

தந்தையிடம் கூறினான் பெற்ற மேன்மைகளை;
தந்தை கூறினான் அறிவுரைகளை அவனுக்கு!

“பழி தீர்ப்பாய் திரிசிரனைக் கொன்றவனை;
பழி பாவத்துக்கு அஞ்சாத பாவி இந்திரனை.

திரிசிரன் அறிஞன், ஒழுக்கம் உடையவன்;
திரிசிரன் தபஸ்வி; சத்திய சீலனும் ஆவான்.

அவனைக் கொன்ற பாவி உள்ளான் உயிரோடு;
அவனைக் கொன்று இந்திரனாக வேண்டும் நீ !

தந்தைக்கு மகன் ஆற்றும் உதவியாக இதைச்
சிந்தையில் கொண்டு நிறைவேற்றுவாய் மகனே!”

படை நடத்தினான் விருத்திரன் இந்திரன் மீது
படையினை எதிர்கொண்டது கழுகு வியூகம்.

இந்திரன் இருந்தான் வியூகத்தின் நடுவே
இந்திரனைப் பிடித்தான் விருத்திரன் எளிதாக

உருட்டிக் கசக்கி வாயில் இட்டு மென்று
இருக்கக் கடித்து மெல்லத் தொடங்கினான்.

6#4a. The war between Devaas and Asuraas (1)

Viruthran did severe penance for one hundred years. Brahma appeared in front of him and blessed him with the boons he sought.

“I should not get killed by ants or wood or any wet things or any dry things or weapons of any sort. Please give me the power to win over the Devaas.”

Brahma gave these boons and disappeared from there.Thvashta was happy to see his son return with these special boons and told Viruthraasuran one more time his only aim in life now.

” We have to avenge the cruel murder of Trisiran by Indra. Trisiran was a learned man with a good conduct. He was a tapasvi and spoke the truth always. He is dead while Indra who murdered him treacherously still lives.

You must destroy him and become the next Indra. I do not wish for anything from you other than this my dear son. If you want to do anything to make me happy please do this.”

Viruthraasuran invaded swarggam with his asuraa army. The Devaas had formed a the eagle Vyooha and Indra was well within its protection. But Viruthraasuran caught hold of Indra, put him in his mouth and started chewing him with his mighty jaws.

15. இரணியன்.

“ஆறுமுகன் வேற்படையினால்
அழிந்து பட்டான் சூரபத்மன்!”

செய்தி கேட்டதும் பதுமகோமளை
செய்வதறியாமல் உயிர் நீத்தாள்.

அழுது புலம்பினர் பிற மனைவியர்!
தொழுது விழுந்தனர் பெரும் தீயில்.

சேவலும் மயிலுமாக மாறிய சூரனை
எண்ணிக் கலங்கினான் மகன் இரணியன்.

“என்னுயிர் தரவில்லை உனக்கு !
இன்னுயிர் காக்க ஓடி ஒளிந்தேன்.

மறைந்த பின் திரும்பி உள்ளேன்.
குறைகள் நிறைந்துள்ள புன்மகன்.

தேவர்கள் போற்ற நின்ற நீ இன்று
கூவுகிறாய் முருகன் கொடி நின்று !

உலகங்கள் தொழுத நீ இன்று
உலவுகின்றாய் ஊர்தியாக நின்று.”

பலவாறு புலம்பினான் இரணியன்;
குலகுரு சுக்கிரர் தேற்றினார் அவனை,

இரணியன் செய்தான் ஈமக் கடன்களை;
திருமகள் நீங்கினாள் அந்நகரை விடுத்து.

“செல்வம் வித்தாகும் துன்பத்திற்கு!”
சென்றான் தவம் செய்து வீடுபேறு அடைய.

4 # 15. HiraNyan.

When the queen Padumakomalai heard the news of the death of Soorapadman, she just dropped dead. The other queens lamented, cried and jumped into a roaring fire pit.

HiraNyan who went and hid himself after changing into a fish came out and shed bitter tears. “I am not a worthy son dear father! I hid myself instead coming to your help. You were the ruler of 1008 universes. But now you crow from Murugan’s flag as a cock and carry him around as a peacock!”

Sukraachaariya consoled him and HiraNyan performed the last rites to his father. Lakshmi Devi deserted the city.

HiraNyan understood that wealth was the root cause of all the problems. He left to a lonely spot to do penance and attain liberation.

11a. சந்திப்பு

உலவின துஷ்ட மிருகங்கள் தம் இஷ்டம் போல!
நிலவியது ஆபத்து வனத்தில் வசிப்பவர்களுக்கு!

சுனை அருகே வசிப்பவர்களுக்கு பிராண அபாயம்,
சுனையில் நீர் பருகும் சாது பிராணிகளுக்கும் கூட.

“வேட்டைக்குப் போகின்றேன் அம்மா – விலங்குகளின்
கொட்டத்தை அடக்குவதற்கு!” என்றான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.

காட்டை விட்டு வெளியே வந்து திரிபவைகளைக்
காட்டுக்குள் விரட்டினான் அவற்றை அச்சுறுத்தி.

துவம்சம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தது ஒரு மத யானை!
துரத்தியவுடன் ஓடியது காட்டை விட்டு வெளியே.

வெளியறியது அது சேஷாச்சலத்தை விட்டு விட்டு!
வெறி கொண்ட யானையை விடலாகாது அன்றோ?

நாரயணபுரத்தை நோக்கி ஓடியது மத யானை.
நாராயணனும் துரத்திச் சென்றான் யானையை.

நுழைந்தது ஆகாசராஜனின் உத்தியான வனத்தில்!
‘இழைக்குமோ ஆபத்து அங்கிருந்த பெண்களுக்கு?’

அம்பினால் அடித்தான் அந்த மத யானையை.
தும்பிக்கையைத் தூக்கிப் பிளிறிவிட்டு ஓடியது.

யானை சென்றபின் அழைத்தனர் பத்மாவதியை,
“யானை வந்துள்ளது, திரும்புவோம் அரண்மனை!”

யானையை விரட்டிய நாரணன் வந்தான் அங்கே.

மற்ற பெண்களிடையே இருந்தாள் பத்மாவதி
மணிகளிடையே ஜொலிக்கும் வைரம் போல.

முக காந்தி ஈர்த்தது இரும்பைக் காந்தம் போல.
முன்னேறினான் பெண்கள் கூட்டத்தை நோக்கி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
VENKATESA PURAANAM

11a. The meeting

Wild animals from the deep jungle roamed in the forest, closer to the ashrams. Danger was in the air for the people living near the fountains and the gentle animals which came to drink water from the streams and ponds.

Srinivaasan wanted to send back the wild animals deep into the forest. He tool leave of VaguLa Maalikaa and went to the woods. He managed to send back most of the wild animals deep into the forest.

But there was a mad elephant which started running towards Naarayana puram when chased by him. A mad elephant could not be let loose in highly populated areas.

So Sinivaasan went chasing it. It ran straight to the garden of Aakaasa Raajan where the princess Padmaavati and her friends were playing.

The girls got frightened by the sight of the elephant. Srinivaasan shot an arrow at the elephant. It trumpeted loudly lifting its trunk and ran away from there once again.

Her friends told Padmaavati, “Let us go back to the safety of our palace.” Just then Srinivaasan came to that spot. He saw Padmaavati who shone among the other girls like a diamond placed among the other gemstones.

Her face which resembled a full moon attracted him like a magnet attracting a piece of iron. He went nearer to those girls daringly.

6#4b. தேவாசுர யுத்தம் (2)

முறையிட்டனர் தேவர்கள் தம் குலகுருவிடம்,
மறுத்துக் கூறினார் குரு பிருஹஸ்பதி இதனை.

“இல்லை இறப்பு இந்திரனுக்கு இவ்வாறு – யாரும்
மெல்ல முடியாது, விழுங்கவும் முடியாது அவனை.

ஒட்டிக் கொண்டுள்ளான் கடை வாயினில் – இந்திரன்
பட்டுக் கொள்ளவில்லை விருத்திரன் பற்களிடையே.”

கொட்டாவி வந்தால் திறக்கும் வாய் என்று அவனைக்
கொட்டாவி விடச் செய்தனர் தேவர்கள் தந்திரமாக.

எய்தனர் ஜிரும்பிகாஸ்திரத்தை விருத்திராசுரன் மீது;
செய்தனர் விருத்திரன் வாயை அகலத் திறக்கும்படி!

சிறிய உருவெடுத்து வெளியேறிய இந்திரன் – பிறர்
அறியும் முன்பே அங்கிருந்து சென்று மறைந்தான்.

தொடர்ந்தது யுத்தம் பதினாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்;
தொடர்ந்தனர் தேவர் விருத்திரனுடன் போரை.

வெல்ல முடியவில்லை விருத்திரனைப் போரில்;
செல்லத் தொடங்கினர் தேவர்கள் ஒளிந்துவாழ.

கைப் பற்றினான் சுவர்க்கத்தை விருத்திரன்;
கைபற்றினான் சுவர்க்கத்தின் சம்பத்துக்களை!

விருத்திரன் அசுரருடன் வாழ்ந்தான் சுவர்க்கத்தில்;
விருத்திரன் அசுரருடன் துய்த்தான் சுவர்க்கபோகம்.

திருக்கயிலைக்குச் சென்றது தேவர்களின் சமூஹம்,
“கருணைக் கடலே! இழந்தோம் சுவர்க்கபோகத்தை!

உதவ வேண்டும் எமக்கு இழந்தவற்றை மீட்டிட;
உதவுபவர் யாருமில்லை உம்மைத் தவிர!” என,

“செல்லுங்கள் பிரம்மனுடன் சேர்ந்து கொண்டு;
செல்லுங்கள் திருமாலிடம் குறைகளைச் சொல்ல!

தந்திரம் மிகுந்தவன் நாராயணன் – தன்னை நம்பி
வந்தவரைக் கை விட மாட்டான் ” என்றான் சிவன்.

சென்றனர் வைகுண்ட நாதனிடம் தேவர்கள் – ப
கன்றனர் தம் மனக் குறைகளை அவனிடம்.

அபயம் அளித்தான்; நாரணன் மனம் கனிந்தான்;
“அபாயம் விலகும் வெகு விரைவில்!” என்றான்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன். விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#4b. The war between Devaas and Asuraas (2)

The Devaas ran to their kulaguru Bruhaspati and reported this. He did not believe it to be possible. He told the Devaas, “Such a weird death is not in Indra’s destiny. He may be caught inside the mouth and is in between the rows of teeth of Viruthraasuran.”

The Devaas wanted to make Viruthraasuran open his mouth wide to enable Indra to escape. They shot the Jrumbhika asthram on Viruthraasuran. The effect of the arrow was to produce a sensation of yawning.

When Viruthraasuran yawned widely, Indra shrunk his size, escaped from his mouth undetected and disappeared before anyone could miss him.

The war continued and went on for ten thousand years. The Devaas could not defeat Viruthraasuran. They ran away and hid themselves in fear.

Viruthraasuran occupied the Heaven with his clan and enjoyed the pleasures of heaven.

The crestfallen Devaas went to Lord Siva and said, “Oh lord! we have lost our heaven and everything in it to Viruthraasuran. We have no one to help us except you! Kindly help us to recover all that we have lost to the Viruthraasuran and his asuraa clan!”

Lord Siva took pity on them and said, “Go to Vishnu accompanied by Brahma and explain your problems to him. Vishnu is very clever and cunning. He never forsakes those who seek his help. He will surely find out a way to recover the heaven from the asuraas.”

The Devaas went to Brahma first and then to Vishnu along with him. Vishnu listened to them and gave them abhayam. He promised that they would regain their heaven very soon.
 
KANDA PURAANAM - PORPURI KAANDAM

16. சிறை மீட்டல்

வீரவாகுத் தேவரைப் பணித்தான் முருகன்
“சிறை மீட்பாய் தேவர்கள் கூட்டத்தை !”

மகேந்திரபுரியை அடைந்தான் வீரவாகு.
மனம் உடைந்த தேவர்களிடம் சென்றான்.

“முருகன் அழித்தான் சூரபத்மனை – மால்
மருகனிடம் செல்வோம் நாம் வாருங்கள் !”

சிறை நீங்கி வந்தது தேவர்கள் குழாம்;
முருகனின் தாண் மலர்கள் பணிந்தது.

இறந்த பூதர்கள் உயிர்த்து எழத்
திருவருள் செய்தான் திருமுருகன்.

எழுந்த படைகள் தொழுதன அவனை!
“எழுந்து மறைப்பாய் மகேந்திரபுரியை !”

முருகன் ஆணைப்படிப் பொங்கியெழுந்த
வருணன் மறைத்தான் மகேந்திரபுரியை.

திரும்பினான் முருகன் பூதப்படையுடன்;
திருச்செந்தூர் திரும்பவும் அடைந்தான்.

பிரமன், முதலிய தேவர்கள் குழாம்
முறைப்படி வழிபட்டது முருகனை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

போர்புரி காண்டம் நிறைவுற்றது.
