KANDA PURAANAM - PORPURI KAANDAM

4 # 16. Releasing the imprisoned Devas.

Murugan ordered Veerabaahu, “ Go and release all the devas from Soorapadman’s prison!”

Veerabaahu reached Mahendrapuri. The Devas had lost all hope of freedom. Veerabaahu told them, “Murugan has put an end to the atrocities of Soorapadman. Come let us go back to him!”

They all reached Thiruchendoor and worshiped Murugan.

The army of the demons had suffered a heavy loss. Murugan decided to bring back all the dead warriors to life. Every single demon killed in the war came back to life.

Murugan ordered Varuna, “Submerge the city of Veera mahendra puri under your water!” The sea swelled up and swallowed the city and everything in it.

Murugan went back to Tiruchendoor with his army. Brahma and the other devas wanted to worship Murugan with due honor. He accepted their puja and prayers.

This brings us to the end of the fourth kaandan - Porpuri kaanadam.

11b. “வாசுதேவன் நானே!”

அந்நிய ஆடவனைக் கண்ட தும் தோழியர்
சொன்னார்கள், “திரும்பிச் செல்வோம்!” என.

“தெரிந்து கொண்டு வாருங்கள் அவன் யார் என!”
“யார் நீங்கள்? இங்கு என்ன வேலை? கூறுவீர்!”

நடந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் பத்மாவதியை நோக்கி
தடுக்க முடியவில்லை தோழிப் பெண்களால்!

“ஆடவருக்கு நுழைய அனுமதி இல்லையா?
அறியாமல் வந்து நுழைந்துவிட்டேன் இங்கு!

கண்டேன் வனத்தில் மத யானை ஒன்றை!
கண்டதும் யானை ஓடலானது வேகமாக!

காட்டுக்குள் செல்லவில்லை அந்த யானை;
நாட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்தது; நந்தவனம் வந்தது !

கன்னியரைத் துன்புறுத்துமோ என்று அஞ்சி
கணை ஒன்றை எய்து விரட்டினேன் அதை.

பூரணச் சந்திரன் போன்ற முகம் கொண்ட
ஆரணங்குடன் பேச விரும்பி வந்தேன்.”

“யானை திரிந்தால் தெரிந்திருக்கும் எமக்கும்!
யார் நீர்? எதற்கு வந்துள்ளீர்? உண்மை கூறும்.”

“வசிப்பது சேஷாச்சலம்; சிந்து புத்திரர் குலம்;
வசுதேவர் தந்தையார்; தேவகி தாயார் ஆவார்.

பஞ்ச பாண்டவர்களுக்கு ஆப்த நண்பன் நான்;
கொஞ்சப் பெயர்களா நான் சொல்லுவதற்கு?”

“பித்தம் தலைக்கு ஏறி விட்டது உமக்கு!
வைத்தியரைப் போய்ப் பாரும் உடனே!

உத்தியான வனத்தில் பெண்களிடம் வந்து
எத்தன் வேடமா போடுகின்றீர்கள் நீங்கள்?

பைத்தியக்காரன்! யசோதை கிருஷ்ணனாம்!
வைத்தியம் செய்து கொள்ளும் விரைவாக.

ஜோலியைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு செல்வீர்!”
கேலி பேசினார் பத்மாவதியின் தோழியர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

11b. “I am Vaasudevan!”

When the girls saw a strange young man in their garden, they insisted that they should go back to the palace immediately. But Padmaavati told her friends,”Go and find out all about that young man!”

Her friends approached Srinivaasan and asked him, “Who are you? What brings you here now?” He did not reply to those girls but kept walking nearer to Padmaavati. No one could stop his progress.

“I did not know that men are forbidden from entering this garden. I entered since I did not know that rule. I saw a mad elephant in the forest. It started running towards this city instead of running into the forest. It then entered this garden.

I was afraid that it might harm you the young girls here and shot an arrow on it. It ran away leaving me here. Now I wish to talk to the pretty girl who has a face resembling the silvery full moon !” Srinivaasan walked nearer to Padmaavati.

“If there were really a mad elephant on rampage, we would have known it already. Tell us the truth. Who are you and why are you here?” Padmaavati’s friends would not spare the young man so easily!

Srinivaasan answered earnestly.” I live in Seshaachalam. I belong to the Sindu Puthra kulam. My father is Vasudevar and my mother is Devaki. I am a close friend of the Paandavaas. I have so many names that I do not know which one to tell you !”

“You are raving mad sir! Go and get treated by a qualified physician soon. You enter the private garden of the princess and pretend to be innocent. A mad prince indeed! The son of Vasudeva and Devaki! Go and mind your own business now. But don’t forget go and get treated first. ”

The girls made fun of Srinivaasan.

6#5. தேவியிடம் விண்ணப்பம்

“உபாயம் சொல்கின்றேன் விருத்திரனைக் கொல்ல;
உபாயங்கள் சாம, தான, பேத, தண்டம் பயன் தரா!

வலிமை பெற்றுள்ளான் அழிவே இல்லாதவனாக!
வஞ்சித்துக் கொல்லவேண்டும் விருத்திராசுரனை!

கந்தருவரை அனுப்பிக் குதூகலப் படுத்துவோம்-பின்
கலந்து பழகுவோம் நட்புணர்வுடன் இருப்பதுபோல்.

இந்திரன் அழைக்க வேண்டும் அவனைப் போருக்கு.
இருப்பேன் வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தின் கூரிய நுனியில் நான்.

எதிர் நோக்கி இருப்போம் தக்க தருணம் வரும்வரை;
அதிகம் கவலைப்படத் தேவையில்லை தர்மம் பற்றி.

வஞ்சித்தேன் வாமனனாகவும், வராஹமாகவும்;
வஞ்சனையால் கொன்றான் இந்திரன் திரிசிரனை.

வஞ்சனை செய்ய வைப்பது தேவியின் மாயையே;
வஞ்சிக்கலாம் விருத்திரனை தேவியின் மாயையால்.”

வழிபட்டனர் தேவர்கள் ஓன்று கூடிப் பராசக்தியை;
வெளிப்பட்டாள் தேவி அவர்களுக்குக் காட்சி தந்திட.

பாச, அங்குச, அபய, வரத ஹஸ்தங்களுடன்;
பூஷணங்கள் தரித்துப் பொலியும் பேரழகுடன்.

தண்டைகள், வளையல்கள், ஓட்டியாணத்துடன்
கொண்டிருந்தாள் இரத்தின கிரீடம், முக்கண்கள்.

சச்சிதானந்த ஸ்வரூபிணியாக வந்தாள் அவள்!
சந்திரப்பிறை ஒளிர்ந்தது அழகிய திருமுடியில்.

“தருகின்றான் துன்பம் விருத்திராசுரன் – எமக்குத்
தரவேண்டும் வல்லமை அவனை வெல்லுவதற்கு!”

“அங்ஙனமே ஆகுக!’ என்று புன்னகைத்தாள் தேவி;
அங்கிருந்து மறைந்தருளினாள் உடனே சக்தி தேவி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#5a. Mahaa Maayaa’s help.

Vishnu told Brahma and the other Devaas who had assembled there,” I will tell you an infallible method of killing Viruthraasuran. Saama, Dhaana, Bedha and Dandam will not yield the desired result here. We will have to kill him by treachery.

We will send Gandharvaas and try to impress the asuraas favourably and also please them. We will mingle with them freely as if we were their true friends. We will wait for the most opportune moment.

I will be present at the sharp tip of Indra’s vajraayudam when he will use it on Viruthraasuran. I do not worry much about the dharma and adharma or the dos and don’ts. For me the end justifies the means.

I cheated Mahaabali as Vaamana. Indra killed Trisiran by treachery. We become treacherous by the power of Maayaa of Devi Para Shakti. We can kill Viruthraasuran by treachery with Devi’s help!”

All the Devaas and the Gods worshipped Devi Paraa Shakti. She appeared dressed in rich silks and bedecked with gem studded jewels and ornaments. She sported the crescent moon her crown and had a third eye on her forehead. She was the Sath-Chith-Aananda-Roopini.

The Devaas and Gods said, “Viruthraasuran is tormenting us by usurping our heaven and driving us out. He is invincible. Devi! Please give us the power and strength to vanquish Vrithraasuran!”

Devi smiled and said,”So be it!” and vanished from there.

மாயையின் வலியோன் ஆகி மான்முத லோரை வென்றே
ஆயிரத் தோரெட் டண்டம் அரசு செய் துகம்நூ றெட்டுக்
காயம தழிவின் றாகிக் கடவுளர்க் கலக்கண் செய்த
தீயசூர் முதலைச் செற்ற குமரன்தாள் சென்னி வைப்பாம்.

1. பரங்குன்றம் அடைதல்

மயில் ஊர்தியில் ஏறிக் கொண்டான் முருகன்;
அயிராஜன் முதலியவரைப் பணித்தான்;

“உம்முடைய ஊர்திகளில் அமருங்கள்;
எம்முடன் யாம் செல்லுமிடம் வாருங்கள்!”

கொம்பு, காளகம், பேரிகைகள் ஒலித்தன;
உம்பர்கள் பயணித்தனர் முருகனுடன்;

மறை ஒலியையும், வாழ்த்தொலியையும்
மறைத்துவிட்டன சேவலும், மயிலும்.

அசைந்தன மலைகள் போக்குவரத்தால்;
அடைந்தனர் அனைவரும் பரங்குன்றம்;

பராசர முனிவரின் குமாரர்கள் அறுவரும்
பிரார்த்தனை செய்தனர் அங்கு தங்கிவிட.

தேவத் தச்சன் அப்போதே அமைத்தான்
தேவாதிதேவனுக்கு உரிய ஓர் இடத்தை.

கோவில்கள், பொழில்கள், குளங்களுடன்
கோலாகலமாக மாறியது பரங்குன்றம்.

அனைவரையும் உரிய இடத்தில் அமர்த்தி
அடைந்தான் முருகன் தன் அரியணையை.

மெய்யன்புடன் வழிபட்ட தன் அன்பருக்கு
மெய்யறிவு தந்தான் திருமுருக பெருமான்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

5 #1. Returning to Parangkundram.

Murugan sat on his peacock. He requested the other Devas and Gods to sit on their respective vaahanams and accompany Murugan. Musical instruments were played.

They all traveled together with Murugan. The sound made by the cock and the peacock overshadowed the Vedic chanting and rushis’ blessings.

The mountain trembled due to the heavy traffic. They reached Parangkundram. The six sons of rushi Paraasara prayed to Murugan to stay there.

Viswakarma built a place worthy of Murugan. Temples, gardens, tanks and ponds beautified Prangkundram. Murugan offered seats to all the gods and Deva and went on to sit in his own throne.

11c. சினம் பெருகியது

“அரசகுமாரி தங்களைப் பற்றிய விவரங்கள்
அனைத்தும் அறிய வேண்டும் நான் இப்போது.”

“தாராளமாகத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள் ஐயா!
நாராயணபுர மன்னன் ஆகாசராஜனின் மகள்.

பத்மாவதி என்பெயர், தாரணி தேவி என் தாய்;
அத்திரி கோத்திரம், நாங்கள் சந்திர வம்சம்.

உத்தியான வனம் உண்டானது எனக்காக.
இத்தனை விவரங்கள் போதுமா உமக்கு?”

“என்ன பொருத்தம் நமக்குள் இந்தப் பொருத்தம்!
என்னை மணந்து கொள்ள உனக்கு விருப்பமா?”

கோபம் வந்து விட்டது இளவரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!
கோபம் கொண்டனர் பத்மாவதியின் தோழியரும்.

“அத்து மீறிப் பேசவேண்டாம் பித்துப் பிடித்த ஐயா!
பத்திரம் இவள் அரசகுமாரி, நினைவிருக்கட்டும்!”

“கன்னி பெண்ணை நான் மணக்க விரும்புவதில்
என்ன தவறு எனத் தெரியவில்லையே!” என்றான்.

பல்லைக் கடித்தாள்; கண்களை உருட்டினாள்;
'தொல்லை தரும் மனிதனுடன் என்ன பேச்சு?

வைகுந்தவாசனை வரித்த என்னை ஒரு
வழிப் போக்கன் மணக்க விரும்புவதா?'

சினம் தலைக்கு ஏறியது பத்மாவதிக்கு
மனம் அவனைத் தண்டிக்க விரும்பியது.

“அனுமதி இல்லாத இந்த இடத்துக்கு வந்து
அத்து மீறி நுழைந்தது உம் முதல் தவறு!

தனித்து இருக்கும் இளம் பெண்களிடம்
தவறாகப் பேசுவது இரண்டாவது தவறு.

கன்னிப் பெண் இவள் என்று அறிந்திருந்தும்
கண்ணியம் இன்றிப் பேசுவது மூன்றாவது.

சுய உணர்வு இல்லை போலும் உமக்கு!
மயக்கத்தில் பேசுகின்றீர் போலும் நீர்!

தயவு செய்து சென்று விடுங்கள் உடனே!
பயம் இல்லையா அரசனின் கோபத்துக்கு?”

விடாக் கண்டன் கொடாக் கண்டன் கதையானது!
இடத்தைக் காலி செய்ய மறுத்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

11c. Padmaavati’s Anger

Srinivaasan spoke to Padmaavati, ” I wish to know everything about you now, my dear princess!” Padmaavati replied,

“Why not sir? I am the daughter of Aakaasa Raajan, the king of Naaraayana puram. My name is Padmaavati. My mother is DharaNi Devi. We belong to Atri gothram and Chandra vamsam. This garden is created for my use. Are these details sufficient or do you need more?’"

Srinivaasan was delighted by the details furnished by the princess Padmaavati. “We are made for each other my dear princess. Will you marry me?” He seemed to be the very personification of daredevilry!

Padmavaati now lost her temper. So too her dear friends. They warned Srinivaasan. “Stay within safe limits young man! She is a princess! Remember this fact always”

Now Srinivaasan wondered aloud, “What is wrong in wishing to marry a beautiful unmarried princess?’ Padmaavati bit her lips, rolled her eyes and did not want to talk to that irritating young man anymore.

She had decided to marry Vishnu and some nitwit wayfarer was proposing to her so daringly. She wished to punish him severely.

She spoke to him with swelling anger, “You have come inside my garden which no men are allowed to enter. This is your first crime. You do not know how to talk to young women. This is your second crime.

Knowing that I am an unmarried princess, you speak so cheaply about me. This is your third crime. May be you are not in your right senses. May be you are intoxicated or infatuated. Go away from here immediately. Are you not afraid of the wrath of the king?”

These angry words were shaken off by Srinivaasan like a duck shaking off the water poured on its back. The situation became a battle of wills and Srinivaasan gave no hint of leaving that garden as commanded by Princess Padmaavati!

6#6a. விருத்திரன் வதம் (1)

மறந்து விடுவீர் பகைமையை இருவரும்;
துறந்து விடுவீர் - பகைமை தரும் துன்பம்.

நண்பர்கள் ஆகவேண்டும் அமரர், அசுரர்;
நன்மை விளையும் இதனால் இருவருக்கும்.”

முனிவர் கூறினர் விருத்திரனிடம் – மிகவும்
பணிவுடன் இனிய மொழிகள் பலவும் பேசி.

“வணங்குகின்றேன் உண்மைத் தவசீலர்களே!
பிணங்குகின்றேன் அமரர் கோனுடன் மட்டும்.

நட்புக் கொள்ளக் கூடாது ஒருபோதும்
நம்பிக்கை துரோகம் செய்பவர்களுடன்.”

மறைத்தாள் தேவி அவன் அறிவொளியை!
உரைத்தான் முனிவருக்கு விருத்திரன் இதை.

“உலர்ந்த பொருள் அல்லது ஈரப் பொருள்,
கல், கட்டை, வஜ்ஜிராயுதம், பிற ஆயுதங்கள்,

தேவர்கள், மனிதர்கள், அசுரர்களால் நிகழாது
இரவு அல்லது பகலில் என்னுடைய மரணம்!

சத்தியம் செய்து நட்புப் பூணுவான் எனில்
இத்தகையவனுடனும் கொள்வேன் நட்பு!”

நெருங்கிப் பழகினர் விருத்திரன், இந்திரன்.
திரிந்தனர் குதூகலத்துடன் பல இடங்களில்.

இருந்தான் சூது, வாது இன்றி விருத்திரன்;
இருந்தான் சமயம் எதிர்நோக்கி இந்திரன்!

கவலை அடைந்தான் இதைக் கண்ட துவஷ்டா;
நிலைமையை விளக்கினான் விருத்திரனுக்கு.

6#6a. The end of Viruthraasuran (1)

Venerable sages came to meet Viruthraasuran. They spoke to him very sweetly and showed him deep respect. “You and Indra must bury the hatchet and become good friends. If the Devaas and the Asuraas become friends, it will benefit both their races.”

Virutharaasuran told them, “I will pay my respect to you venerable sages, but I can’t become a friend on Indra. He is treacherous and can’t be trusted as a true friend. We should not form friendship with unreliable people!”

Just then Mahaa Maayaa Devi covered his sharp intelligence and deluded him slightly. He told the sages,”I can’t be killed by any dry or wet objects, nor by a stone nor by a wood nor by any weapons nor by a Deva nor by an Asura nor by a Manushya nor during the day nor the night. But if Indra promises to be a true friend, I have no objection to becoming his friend.”

Indra was only to happy to hear this. He promised true friendship and very soon he became very close to Viruthraasuran. They spent a lot of time together and roamed around visiting various places together.

Viruthraasuran was both innocent and ignorant of Indra’s ulterior motives. Indra was abiding for his most favorable time to finish off his mortal enemy – with whom he pretended to be a true friend.

Thvashta Prajaapati got worried to watch these happenings since he would never trust Indra – promises or no promises. He warned his son Viruthraasuran to break away from untrustworthy Indra.

2a. தெய்வயானை

பகைவனை அழித்து அருளியவனுக்கு ஓர்
உகந்த பரிசினை அளிக்க வேண்டுமே!

பொற்கொடி போன்ற தன் வளர்ப்புமகளை
உற்ற மனையாளாக ஆக்க விரும்பினான்.

இந்திரன் கருத்தினை அறிந்த தேவர்கள்
அந்தமில்லாத மகிழ்ச்சியை அடைந்தனர்.

“முந்நாளில் தவம் செய்தாள் தெய்வயானை,
இந்நாளில் முருகனை மணக்க விரும்பி!”

தூதுவனை அழைத்தான் அமரர்கோன்.
“ஏகுவாய் நீ காற்றெனக் கடுகி விரைந்து.

பொன் மேருவில் வாழ்ந்து வருகின்ற
என் மகளை, மனைவியைக் கொணர்க!’

மேருமலை சென்றான் தூதுவன் உடனே,
பேருவகையுடன் கண்டான் அவர்களை.

“சூரபத்மனை வென்றுவிட்டான் குமரன்,
சூரபத்மனின் சிறை மீண்டனர் அமரர்.

திருப் பரங்குன்றம் சேர்ந்த முருகனுக்குத்
திருமணம் செய்யவேண்டும் உம் மகளை.

உடன் புறப்பட்டு வரவேண்டும் தாயே!
தடையின்றித் திருமணம் நடை பெற்றிட.”

ஒற்றனின் மொழி கேட்டு மகிழ்ந்தனர்
பொற்கொடியும், அவள் அன்னையும்!

துன்பம் தொலைந்தது! இன்பம் வந்தது!
வெண்ணிறயானை மீது ஏறி அமர்ந்தனர்.

அரம்பையர் புடை சூழ அடைந்தனர்
பரங்குன்ற மலையை விண் வழியே!

கண்ணீர் விட்டாள் கணவனைக் கண்டு!
கட்டியணைத்து உச்சி மோந்தாள் மகனை.

காதல் மனைவியை, மகளைக் கண்டதும்
களிப்பு மிகவும் எய்தினான் அமரர்கோன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

5#2a. Wedding with Devayaani.

Indra wanted to repay Murugan appropriately for the services he had rendered. He wished to give away his daughter’s hand to Murugan in marriage. The other Devas welcomed this suggestion.

“Devayaani had done severe penance in her previous birth, wishing to wed Murugan. So be it!”

Indra sent his messenger to mount Meru to fetch his wife and daughter immediately. The messenger reached Mount Meru and told Indraani and Devayaani.

“Murugan has vanquished Soorapadman. Indra wants to marry Devayaani to Murugan. So please come with me immediately.”

Indraani and Devayaani were happy that their days of suffering were over. Their days of glory had returned.

They sat on Iraavat and went to Prangkungram with all the Apsaras by flying. Indraani wept with joy on seeing her husband and embraced her son.

Indra was overwhelmed to see his wife and daughter safe and sound again.

11d. மோதலும், காதலும்!

“எந்த விதத்தில் குறைந்துவிட்டேன் பெண்ணே?
என்னை மணக்கப் புண்ணியம் பண்ண வேண்டும்!”

“அம்பு எய்து மதயானையை விரட்டிய பின்பும்
வம்பு செய்து எம்மைத் துன்புறுத்துவது ஏனோ?”

“போகாவிட்டால் என்ன செய்ய முடியும் உன்னால்?”
“போகாவிட்டால் உங்கள் உயிரை வாங்கிவிடுவேன்!”

“உயிருக்கு அதிபதியான என் உயிரையா?”என்றான்.
“பயித்தியத்தை அடித்து விரட்டிவிடுங்கள்!” என்றாள்.

சொல்லடிகள் பட்டு நின்றிருந்த ஸ்ரீனிவாசனுக்குக்
கல்லடிகள் கொடுக்கலாயினர் தோழிப் பெண்கள்.

காயம் பட்டது சில கற்கள் தாக்கி – எனினும்
நியாயம் கேட்க நிற்கவில்லை ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!

மோதல் ஏற்படும் இருவர் சந்தித்தவுடனே!
காதல் ஆகிவிடும் பின்னர் சிந்தித்தவுடனே!

அடித்து விரட்டச் சொன்ன பத்மாவதியை
அடித்து விட்டன மன்மதனின் பாணங்கள்.

நாரணன் வெளியேறிய பின்னர் உலகம் தன்
பூரணத்துவம் இழந்தது போல் தோன்றியது.

உலகமே இருண்டது போலத் தோன்றியது
கலகமே நிறைந்த மனதின் நினைவுகளால்!

பாலும் கசந்தது; பஞ்சணை வருத்தியது;
கோலம் மாறியது; பசலை நோய் படர்ந்தது.

மந்திரம் போட்டுவிட்டானோ அந்தத்
தந்திரம் அறிந்த வம்புக்கார வாலிபன்?

உற்சாகமாகச் சண்டையிட்டாள் அவனுடன்!
உற்சாகம் இழந்து ஆளே மாறிப் போய்விட்டாள்.

ரதத்தில் ஏற்றி அமர்த்தினர் பத்மாவதியை;
ரதம் விரைந்தது மன்னனின் மாளிகைக்கு.

#11d. The clash and the crush!

“What do I lack my dear princess? You must be very lucky to marry me!” Srinivaasan told Padmaavati.

“You came to save us from the mad elephant. The elephant has long since gone away! May I know why you are still hanging around here in my garden?” She asked him.

“What will you do if I refuse to leave this place ?” he taunted her. “I will take off your life!” she retorted.

“Take off the life of one who is the savior of everyone’s life?” He laughed at her openly now. Padmaavati lost her temper completely and told her friends, “Drive him away by any means!”

Her friends started pelting stones on poor Srinivaasan. Some of the stones made their mark and caused wounds and Srinivaasan decided that it was wise to make a disappearing act from there.

When two young people meet for the first time, they may clash. But soon it will be followed by an inexplicable crush for each other. The same thing happened here also.

Padmaavati had Srinivaasan pelted with stones by her friends but she herself was hit by the arrows of Cupid. The world looked washed out and lackluster after Srinivaasan went away.

Her mind was troubled by the recent events. She hated the sight of the sweet nourishing milk and the soft cushions seemed to hurt her. She looked so different and was lovelorn.

Her friends wondered whether the teasing and mischievous young man had cast any evil spell on their princess. She fought with him in such a spirited manner, but now she had became so serious and sad.

They made her sit on her chariot and drove her to the palace in a great hurry.

6#6b. விருத்திராசுரன் வதம் (2)

“நட்பு வேண்டாம் பகைவனோடு உனக்கு!
நட்பை உதறிவிடு நன்மை கருதி உடனே!

பொறாமை பிடித்தவன்; கர்வம் கொண்டவன்;
பேராசைக் காரன்; ஈவு, இரக்கமில்லாதவன்;

பிறன் மனை விழைபவன்; கயவன்;
பிறர் துயர் கண்டு மனம் மகிழ்பவன்;

துரோகம் செய்தான் விஸ்வரூபனுக்கு;
துரோகம் செய்வான் உனக்கும் கூட ”

விருத்திரன் மதிக்கவில்லை அறிவுரையை;
விரும்பிப் பழகினான் மீண்டும் நட்போடு!

கடற்கரையில் சந்தித்தனர் இருவரும் மாலையில்;
கயவன் இந்திரன் எண்ணினான் பச்சை துரோகம்.

‘இரவும் பகலும் அற்ற சந்தி வேளை இது!
வரவேண்டும் விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தி உதவி செய்திட!’

வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தில் புகுந்தார் விஷ்ணு – ஆனால்
வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தால் அழிவில்லை விருத்திரனுக்கு!

உலர்ந்ததாகவும், ஈரமாகவும் இல்லாத வஸ்து?
உயர்ந்தது மலையளவு கடலில் பொங்கிய நுரை!

தேவை உலர்ந்தும், ஈரமாகவும் இல்லாத நுரை,
தேவி அருளால் கிடைத்து விட்டது மலையளவு.

அள்ளிப் பூசினான் வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தில் நுரையை;
தள்ளி இருந்த விருத்திராசுரன் மீது வீசினான்.

நுரை பட்டவுடனே இறந்தான் விருத்திரன்
வரம் காக்கவில்லை அவன் உயிரை அன்று.

ஆராதித்தனர் தேவர்கள் பரா சக்தி தேவியை;
பிரதிஷ்டை செய்தனர் மரகதச் சிலை ஒன்றை!

'விருத்திர ஹந்திரி' இது தேவியின் பெயர்,
'விருத்திர ஹதன்' இது இந்திரனின் பெயர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷிரமணி

6#6b. The end of Viruthraasuran (2)

Thvashta Prajaapati spoke to Viruthraasuran. “Please do not befriend a sworn enemy. No good will come out of it! Indra is a jealous monster. Hie is bloated with ego and pride.

He is greedy and ruthless. He covets the wives of other men. He rejoices in the sorrows of others. He killed Viswaroopan by treachery! He may do the same thing to you also”

But Viruthraasuran would not listen to the practical wisdom of his father and continued to be very close to Indra as before.

One day the two friends met in a beach in the evening time. Indra felt that the opportune moment for which he had been waiting had come! He thought to himself, ‘It is neither a day nor a night! I wish Vishnu will come to my help now.” Vishnu entered into the vajraayudam and sat on its tip.

But Vajraayudam could not kill Viruthraasuran as per the boon he had received. Only an object which was neither wet nor dry could kill Viruthraasuran. What was such an oject and where will one find it?

Just then the foam in the sea waves rose high like a mountain. Foam was neither wet nor dry. Indra dipped the tip of his vajraayudam in the foam and threw it at Viruthraasuran. When the foam touched his body, Viruthraasuran fell dead.

The Deva rejoiced in the sky. They erected a emerald statue for Devi and worshiped her. Devi got a new title as Viruthra Nihanthri and Indra came to be known as Viruthra hathan.

2b. முருகனின் சம்மதம்.

தேவர்களுடன் சென்று தொழுதான்
தேவர்களின் அரசன் முருகபிரானை;

மலர்த் தூவி, மலர்ப்பதம் தொழுது,
மலர்ந்த முகத்துடன் பேசலுற்றான்;

“பேரருள் தந்து, பேராபத்து நீக்கினீர்,
சூரபத்மனையும் அழித்து ஒழித்தீர்;

கைமாறு ஒன்று செய்ய விழைந்தேன்;
தெய்வயானையை மணக்க வேண்டும்.”

“முந்தைப் பிறவியில் தவம் செய்தாள்;
இந்தப் பிறவியில் என்னை மணந்திட!

வேளை வந்தது அவள் கனவு நனவாக!
நாளை வதுவை புரிவேன் அவளை!”

மகிழ்ச்சிக் கடலில் வீழ்ந்தான் இந்திரன்;
புகழ்ச்சிக் கடலில் வீழ்ந்தான் முருகன்!

பறந்தது திருமணச் செய்தி நாற்புறமும்;
பறந்தனர் தூதர் விரைந்து நாற்றிசையும்;

“பூவுலக மன்னருக்கும், முனிவருக்கும்,
தேவருக்கும் அனுப்புவீர் மணச்செய்தி.

பரங்குன்றில் நிகழும் ஆறுமுகன் மணம்,
வரவேண்டும் உடனே அனைவரும் விரைந்து!”

தெய்வத் தச்சன் தருவிக்கப் பட்டான்
தெய்வ யானையின் மண ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்ய.

திருமண மண்டபம், தங்கும் இடங்கள் மற்றும்
விரும்பிடும் சோலைகள், சுனைகள் அமைத்தான்.

தருவித்தான் அமரர்கோன் தெய்வங்களின்
திருமணத்துக்கு தேவையான பொருட்களை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

5#2b. Murugan consents.

Indra went to meet Murugan. He did paada pooja and said to Murugan,
“You have saved us from out worst enemy Soorapadman. I want to honor you for your help you have rendered. Please accept the hand of my daughter Devayaani in marriage.”

“Devayaani did severe penance in her previous birth wishing to marry me. Her wish will come true now. I will marry her tomorrow”

Indra became very happy and praised Lord Murugan elaborately. The wedding was announced. Messengers were sent to convey the news and invite the kings of earth, the great rushis and the Devas.

The invitation was conveyed to every one. Viswakarma was ordered to make the wedding arrangements. He created the Wedding mandapam, places to stay for the guests, fountains and flower gardens.

Indra fetched all the things needed for the wedding of the Gods.

11e. காதல் நோய்

அந்தப்புரம் சென்று வணங்கினர் அரசியை
அரண்மனை திரும்பிய உடன் தோழிகள்

வாடிய முகங்கள்; வாயடைத்த பெண்கள்;
தேடினாலும் காணவில்லை பத்மாவதியை!

“அன்னியன் ஒருவன் நுழைந்து விட்டான்
அரண்மனை உத்தியான வனத்தில் இன்று!

மதயானையைத் துரத்தி வந்தானாம் அங்கு.
மதயானை ஓடிவிட்டது அவன் பாணத்துக்கு!

வம்பு செய்து பேசினான் பத்மாவதியிடம்;
கம்பு கொண்டு புடையாமல் கல் எறிந்தோம்.

நழுவினான் கழுவும் மீனில் நழுவும் மீனாக!
இழந்துவிட்டாள் இவள் தன் உற்சாகத்தை!"

மகளைத் தேடி ஓடினள் அரசி அந்தப்புரத்தில்.
மகளோ வெட்டவெளியை வெறித்திருந்தாள்!

‘கெடுதலே நினையாத நான் இன்று மட்டும்
கொடூரமாக ஏன் நடந்து கொண்டு விட்டேன் ?

அடி பலமாகப் பட்டிருக்குமோ என்னவோ?
துடிப்பான இளைஞன்! பயித்தியம் அல்ல!’

அன்னை வந்ததையும் கவனிக்கவில்லை;
சொன்ன சொற்களையும் கவனிக்கவில்லை!

திருஷ்டி கழித்தாள் அரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!
திரு நீறு பூசினாள் அரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!

உணவு இறங்கவில்லை பத்மாவதிக்கு!
உறக்கமும் பிடிக்கவில்லை பத்மாவதிக்கு.

குலகுரு சுகர் வந்தார், அறிவுரைகள் தந்தார்;
“மலர்வனம் அருகேயே அகத்தியர் ஆசிரமம்!

பரமசிவன் அபிஷேக நீரைக் கொண்டுவந்து
அரசகுமாரி மேல் தெளித்தால் குணமாகும்!”

பதினோரு வேத விற்பன்னர்கள் சென்றனர்,
பரமசிவனுக்கு அபிஷேக ஆராதனை செய்ய!

வாழக் வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி
