Majority of Saivites are very liberals and not like Vaishnavites. I can be sure that if a Saivite accepts money from non-Saivites definitely he will not speak against them. There is no necessity for Saivites to tell funny war mongering stories and get support. Saivites attach importance to God loving and not God men loving and there are excellent Books available in Saivism to preach.

If Smarthas and Sankara Mutts also start following their sambradaya veru severely like Iyengars / Vaishanavites, the importance given to Rama, Krishna, Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Gita, Tirupavai etc. would have been definitely less, as compared to what is prevalent today.

Saivites are extremely well behaved and highly secular.

Sir, you probably are aware of the Siva and Skanda puranas. Almost all of them seem like a counter, placing Vishnu at a lower level. I think Shri Krishnaswamy Iyengar who does the "Sudarsana/Nrhsimha Priya" has proven that these saivaite puranas are at best stories and were meant only to counter the SVs. (Not that I am commenting on the SV puranas).

But by and large I have seen Veerasaivars who have an extreme view. There are these Aadeenams who are not very tolerant. I have visited the Perur Aadenam and its facilities there (courtesy: a friend who is close to them). I have seen many brahmins (some among my relations) who are staunch devotees of Siva and abhor Narayana. "Sarvam Sree Krishnaarpanamasthu" is probably best described as a lip service in such cases.

I would gently correct this statement "Majority of Saivites are very liberals and not like Vaishnavites" to "Majority of Smarthas are very liberals and are unlike Sri Vaishnavas or Veera Saivars".

Saivites are extremely well behaved and highly secular.

This is something that is not the exclusivity of Saivites.

This is something that is not the exclusivity of Saivites.

Puranas will always talk high of the concerned sect. It is not new. What about Valmiki Ramayana. Has it not insulted Ravanan, a Siva devotee. What is the significance of Vishnu Sahasranamam in Mahabharath. Was it not inserted?

its wrong....we belong to smarthas....but we are not advaitins..........we put NAMAM as well as FOLLOW SRI RANGAM PANCHANGAM...

Do you know why our Vedic tradition supports wearing a Namam, Kunkuma Pottu or whatever for men and women? The exact form may be varied based on tradition and local customs. My question to you is to describe the overall (and profound) significance of this practice across all sects of Hindus.

I don't understand why you have a problem with that. Vaagmi's posting was obscene and profane. He can air his views in other forums which might suit his style.

Nara was different. As I already said, he was a breath of smelly air. Makes you notice and ponder. We only have the sugary sweet ones in these forums nowadays. Acerbic comments are also part of healthy discourse.

Sorry, not being picky, but just a thought that came at that point. Nara was good, but he never answered on some posts on why he was against Hindu nationalists. I asked him what the secular citizens lost during 98-04 and what they gained from 04 till now.

In general discussion/criticism of his and any of our posts are fine in my view but negative comments about anyone as a person is not conducive to good discussions. I am sure we can agree on this

I just want to make a few points - No one can chase anyone away. People leave on their own mainly because of a sense self-imagined importance. For anyone that think they are important I have a scientific test to prove that.

Take a tumbler of water, sit as if you are going to do Sandhyavandanam. Take your ring finger and dip it in the water and pull you finger. Observe the water. If there is still a hole where your finger was you are indeed important

If not you are like any of us!

People may leave because they repeatedly break few simple rules of a forum. In this forum that is handled in the most liberal manner. The banning seem to be only on a given nick/moniker/avatar. Not on the person. They can create another account name and start all over and even allude to their Purvashrama with a different nick/moniker... No one seem to mind and original admiration society can be remade. But with new nick they should follow the few simple rules.

So there is no reason for anyone to be 'chased away.

Being chased away also implies someone is a victim and a loser so we dont want to think like that..

Let me add that Iyengar girls are more beautiful in general but the there are more most beautiful among the iyer girls. similarly I would say that Iyengar boys are smarter than Iyer boys in general but again there are more smartest among the Iyer boys. This is just my pet belief.

You may be right. But Sangom had no business in bad mouthing Sringeri or Kanchi Sankaracharya or Nara bad mouthing Jeeyars or his favourite flog horse weekend brahmins in this forum when they are not present in the forum.

I don't remember my bad-mouthing the Sringeri acharyas; of course I criticized the Satachandee Homa performed in c/w the birthday of the present pontiff of Sringeri and the large number of jackfruit trees which were felled for the purpose.

Regarding the Kanchi mutt, I have my own reservations about its genuineness itself as also its two known pontiffs - Chandrasekharendra and Jayendra. I know there are quite a good number of tabras who have similar views but do not dare to voice these publicly for fear of any supernatural powers which these (two) pontiffs may/might have had. I feel it is necessary that in a forum like this the true faces of such personalities are brought out, much in the same way as the hypocrisy of Velukkudi is being analyzed here. Since I have no data or info about Velukkudi I am not contributing, but I am learning.

I am living (not 'staying') in a concrete house. I do not throw stones, but if others start feeling like throwing stones, I don't think my house will crumble.
