i always wonder, why majority of the 'nobel prizes for medicine' are grabbed by the chemists/biologists but rarely by the physicians or nightingales?
Becos physicians and nurses are into treating patients and chemist and biologist are into research.

Your name suggests that poetry is your forte! But, instead of writing good songs, you mock Sri Papanasam Sivan's song,..........So the unedited messages are all safely stored in my archives for legal action.
best thing to do is to delete the thread (not just close it)

Sri. Shiv, Greetings.
Once you commented to me " diplomatic as always!". I was not that diplomatic, were I? truth is, I was a porukki. in fact, porukki in Vellore, North arcot. ( I lived in one of the nearby villages). Thandal porukki in the Vellore market used to greet me and move away. I was always honest; always a porukki. I showed in this thread, I am a human being, not a robot.
So, when you commented "diplomatic as always" i was kind of laughing to myself. Sorry Shiv, I never was diplomatic.
Cheers!

which is very popular in Carnatic music and blog it in this forum! And you talk about legal action against others! Very strange, Sir!
sh.raghy uncle, wont you be diplomatic here?
There was a boy in our class who used to get epileptic fits every few months. The first aid routine was well known to all of us - rest him on the floor, hold his hands and feet so the he doesn't injure himself, and then make him grip an iron piece (key or door bolt); he became normal in a few minutes and carried on as usual. Even today holding of iron piece is a standard first aid act for 'fits' patients. No one calls emergency medical services; the patient fully recovers after about 30 minutes.
Myths and misconceptions about Epilepsy, seizure and fits | AddressHealth Thought LeadershipOne common belief; especially prevalent in the rural areas, is that a person with epilepsy believed to be possessed by an evil spirits during the attack. Epilepsy is a medical condition and such persons are to be taken to a qualified doctor and not to faith healers or sorcerers for treatment.
Another common belief is that epilepsy is contagious. But this is far from the truth, epilepsy is not contagious and there is no harm in touching a patient who is having a seizure to help him.
When a person is having a seizure there is no requirement of pressing an iron key or any object between his fingers or thrusting it between his teeth to stop the seizure. The only requirement is removing all dangerous, sharp objects in the vicinity which can injure the person. One must not try to restrain a person when he is having a seizure. This will not stop the seizure and may prove dangerous for the both the patient and the person restraining him by causing injury. Water/food should not be given to the person till the seizure passes off. After the seizure, the person is to be placed on one side so that the tongue does not fall back and obstruct breathing. A person will rarely die from having a seizure but may be injured by nearby objects, or falling or when something is forced into his mouth.
Social, cultural and legal constructions of epilepsy remain far behind advances in current medical understanding of the condition,” says Aparna. But the contribution of doctors and dedicated workers in the field is slowly taking India forward. We have come a long way from the times of smelling salts, shoe, onion or holding an iron key to treat seizures.
Blood letting is a good practice in some occasions like snake bite
If you know the snake is not venomous, treat as a puncture wound.
1. Note the Snake's Appearance
Be ready to describe the snake to emergency staff.
2. Protect the Person
While waiting for medical help:
Move the person beyond striking distance of the snake.
Have the person lie down with wound below the heart.
Keep the person still to keep venom from spreading.
Cover the wound with loose, sterile bandage.
Do not:
Cut a bite wound
Attempt to suck out venom
Apply tourniquet, ice, or water
Give the person alcohol or caffeinated drinks
3. Follow Up
If you treat the bite at home:
Contact a health care provider. The person may need a tetanus shot. Tetanus boosters should be given every 10 years.
At the hospital, treatment will depend on the type of snake.
If the snake was venomous, the person will be given anti-venom treatment.
A tetanus shot may be given, depending on date of last injection.
If a snake bites you
Remain calm.
Immobilize the bitten arm or leg, and stay as quiet as possible to keep the poison from spreading through your body.
Remove jewelry before you start to swell.
Position yourself, if possible, so that the bite is at or below the level of your heart.
Cleanse the wound, but don't flush it with water, and cover it with a clean, dry dressing.
Apply a splint to reduce movement of the affected area, but keep it loose enough so as not to restrict blood flow.
Don't use a tourniquet or apply ice.
Don't cut the wound or attempt to remove the venom.
Don't drink caffeine or alcohol.
Don't try to capture the snake, but try to remember its color and shape so you can describe it, which will help in your treatment.
Seek immediate medical attention, especially if the area changes color, begins to swell or is painful.
8. The only remedy for venomous snakebite is the anti-venom serum, which is available at most government hospitals and public health centers. Some private nursing homes have also started stocking it and treat snakebite cases.
HOW NOT TO TREAT SNAKEBITE
1. No ice or any other type of cooling on the bite. Research has shown it to be potentially harmful.
2. No electric cable, string or rubber tourniquets to be used, this cuts off blood flow completely and may result in amputation of the affected limb.
3. No electric shock, this method is under study and has yet to be proven effective. It could harm the victim.
4. No incision in the bite site. Such measures have NOT been proven useful and causes needless additi onal injury, loss of blood, infection, waste of time.
5. Do not burn the wound, as it would not have any effect on the venom, which has already entered the bloodstream.
6. Do not suck the wound with mouth. A suction device may be applied over the bite to help draw venom out of wound without making cuts.
7. Potassium permanganate should never be used.
Diplomacy in general does not resolve conflicts. Wars end not due to peace process, but due to one side giving up.. that's was said by daniel pipes.
and history has always been partial, that it had recorded only those person, who gave up, for want of peace.
what else can i say, other than asking the originator of this thread sh.brahmanyan to share his opinion!!
but sad to see, you and sh.mahakavi had become forest-fire lighters, and people are in situation to dial 103, though no one has attempted except praveen. OR may be in a situation singing the famous billy joels song, in front of praveen ' We did'nt start the fire!!"..
In the major fight, Mr. Sarang tried to inject this piece of misinformation.
There is a program in US on TV on the science channel which routinely debunks this kind of bunkum.
Myths and misconceptions about Epilepsy, seizure and fits | AddressHealth Thought Leadership
According to Dr. Thomas, who is currently the Secretary of the Indian Academy of Neurology:
The Hindu : Health / Rx : Live a happy life with epilepsy
Another piece of misinformation
According to medical profession:

According to the famous Mayo clinic:

The Snake Cell – self-funded nature conservation project, is a unique natural history feature of the Tri-City (Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula).
Mr. Sarang, I do not want to insult you. I do not believe you any older than I, but you are living in 14th century. Please read up and update your knowledge.
That summarizes the situation quite aptly. Except the fuel thrown in the fire were probably alcohol swabs.
Hey Biswa,
I just remembered something important!!
You see this thread is Chinese Home First Aid and all along this "tiff" no one expressed themselves harshly in any of the Chinese Dialects.

Ignorance is personal when it is kept under covers. But when you show your ignorance in the public domain, it needs to be corrected. Because misinformation can kill a human being.
