DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 6

6#23a. தீரமும், திருமணமும் (1)

திருமகள் திருமகன் திருமுகம் மலர்ந்தான்.
“தீரத்தைக் காட்டி மீட்பேன் ஏகாவலியை.

சிறையிலிருந்து விடுதலை செய்வேன் அவளை;
தெரியவேண்டும் அவள் சிறைப் பட்டுள்ள இடம்.

காட்டுவாய் அங்கு செல்லுகின்ற வழியை.
காட்டுவேன் காலகேதுவுக்கு என் வீரத்தை!”

“முன்னதாக உபதேசம் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்
என்னிடமிருந்து தேவியின் திரு மந்திரங்களை.

காட்டுகின்றேன் காலகேதுவின் பட்டணத்தை
போட்டிருக்கிறான் அசுரர்களின் பலத்த காவல்.”

உபதேசித்தாள் தேவியின் மந்திரத்தை யசோவதி;
உபாசித்தான் ஏகவீரன் தேவியின் அருளை நாடி.

ஆற்றல் பெற்றான் எண்ணங்களைக் கண்டு அறிந்திட;
ஆற்றல் பெற்றான் அருகிலிருப்பது போல் அறிந்திட.

காவல் காத்திருந்தன சர்ப்பங்கள் பாதாளத்தை!
காவல் காத்திருந்தனர் அசுரர் பட்டணத்தை!

படை எடுத்தான் ஏகவீரன் அசுரரின் மீது - ஆனால்
தொடை நடுங்கினர் இவனைக் கண்ட அசுர வீரர்.

“வந்திருப்பவன் யாரோ தெரியவில்லை மன்னா!
இந்திரனோ, முருகனோ, ஜயந்தனோ அறியோம்!

பிரமாதமான வீரத் தோற்றம் பெற்றுள்ளான்;
பிரம்மாண்டமான சேனையும் பெற்றுள்ளான்;

புறப்படுவீர் அவனோடு போர் புரிய – அன்றேல்
சிறை விடுவீர் இந்தப் பொற்கொடியை! என்றனர்

6#23a. The valor and the wedding (1)

Ekaveeran, the son of Lakshmi Devi became happy to hear these. “I will set free Ekaavali from Kaalaketu’s prison. I must know where exactly she is kept imprisoned! Can you please show me the way so that I can show my valor to Kaalaketu?

Yasovati said, “Please get the upadesam of the mantras of Devi from me first” I will show you the way to go that palace. It is heavily guarded by asuraa army. ”

Yasovati taught Ekaveeran Devi’s mantraas. Ekaveeran did Devi upaasana and got the rare power of reading the thoughts of the other persons He could hear them as if he were sitting near to them. The paataalaa was guarded by the serpents. Kaalaketu’s city was guarded by the asuraa army.

Ekaveeran set out on a war with the asuraas. The asura warriors lost their courage when they took one look at the valorous son of Lakshmi and Vishnu. They ran and told Kaalaketu,

” We do not know who has come here to fight with us. Is it Indra or Murugan or Jayanthan? We do not know for sure. He looks valorous and strong. He has a huge army to help him. Either get ready to go and fight with him or release this chaste girl from your prison.”

kandapuraanam - daksha kaandam

13d. ஆமையோடு

அமுதம் விழைந்தனர் தேவர், அசுரர்;
அமுதம் மறைந்திருந்தது பாற்கடலில்;

கடையும் மத்தானது மந்தர மலை.
கடையும் கயிறானது வாசுகிப் பாம்பு.

மலை மூழ்கி விட்டபோது திருமால்
மலையைத் தாங்கினார் ஆமையாகி.

பொங்கியது பாற்கடலில் அமுதம்.
பொங்கியது திருமாலின் ஆணவம்!

கலக்கித் திரிந்தது கடலில் விழுந்து!
நிலவுலகத்தினை அது அழிக்கலானது.

கெடுத்தார் ஈசன் ஆமையின் ஆற்றலை;
எடுத்தார் அதன் ஓட்டை அணிவதற்கு.

6#13d. The shell of a turtle.

Devas and Asuras decided to bring out the Amrut from the Ocean of Milk. Mandara mountain became the churner and Vaasuki the rope of the churner.

While the ocean was being churned, the Mandara got immersed. Vishnu took the form of a huge turtle and supported the Mandara from below.

The nectar emerged from the ocean. Vishnu the tortoise became very proud of himself. He churned the ocean and tried to destroy the land as well.

Siva wanted to bring it back to its senses. He removed the shell of the tortoise and wore it as an ornament.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

29b. பத்மாவதியின் கனவு

“அழிவுக்கு ஆளாகாமல் வந்துள்ளோம்!
பழிச் செயலைச் செய்திருந்த போதும்!”

கூறினர் பூலோகத்தில் நடந்தவற்றை;
மாறினான் இந்திரன் அதைக் கேட்டதும்.

ஓடினான் பத்மஸரோவருக்கு உடனே;
தேடினான் தவம் செய்யும் பகவானை.

விடவில்லை பற்றிய பாதங்களை அவன்;
எழவில்லை மன்னித்தேன் என்னும் வரை!

“தவறு ஒன்றும் நிகழவில்லை இந்திரா!
தவத்தில் திருப்தி செய்தோம் லக்ஷ்மியை

மனம் உருகி வருந்திடும் ஒருவருக்கு
மன்னிப்பு உண்டு நிச்சயம்!” என்றான்.

இந்திரன் திரும்பினான் இந்திரலோகம்.
சொந்தமாக சிருஷ்டித்த தேவதையிடம்,

“வன தேவதையாக இருந்து காப்பாற்றுவாய்
தினமும் தேடி வரும் பக்தர்களை!” என்றான்.

தவம் தொடர்ந்தது மீண்டும் நெடுங்காலம்;
தவத்துக்கு இரங்கி வரவே இல்லை லக்ஷ்மி.

இருபத்து இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் ஓடி விட்டன;
வருத்தத்தில் மூழ்கியிருந்தாள் பத்மாவதி.

‘லக்ஷ்மியுடனேயே தங்கி விட்டாரா அவர்?
லக்ஷ்மியைத் தேடித் திரிகின்றாரா அவர்?

கண்டு பிடிக்கவே முடியாதபடி எங்கோ
கண் காணாது ஒளிந்து இருக்கின்றாளா?’

இரவு முழுவதும் உறங்கவில்லை அவள்;
துறவுக் கோலத்தில் கனவினில் கண்டாள்

விடியற்காலை நேரத்தில் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனை!
இடி விழுந்தது போலாகிவிட்டது உள்ளம்!

வகுள மாலிகையிடம் கூறினாள் கனவை;
வெகுவாகத் துயருற்றாள் அதை எண்ணி!

VENKATESA PURAANAM

29b. The dream

The celestial maidens told Indra,”We escaped by the skin of our teeth from being cursed by God.” They related the events that happened on earth after they went there. Indra was quite shocked at his mistaking the identity of the young man Srinivaasan.

Indra went to the earth as fast as he could. He reached Padma Sarovar and looked for Srinivaasan there. He fell at his feet and would not let go until Srinivaasan explicitly stated that all Indra’s actions had been forgiven and forgotten.

“You have not anything wrong Indra! In fact your celestial maidens helped my in pleasing Lakshmi Devi with their sweet songs, dances and the garlands.”

Indra went back to his world happy. Srinivaasan commanded the maiden created by his sankalpam, “Become the guardian angel of this wood and protect all my devotees form all dangers!”

His penance was resumed but Lakshmi did not appear even then. Twenty two years had rolled by after he left Padmaavati and went looking for Lakshmi Devi.

Padmaavati did not understand what was going on ! ‘Has Srinivaasan settled down with Lakshmi Devi? Was he still searching for her? Had she gone into hiding such that no one could ever find her?’

Padmaavati spent a sleepless night tossing in her bed. In the early morning she had a dream. She saw Srinivaasan dressed as a sanyasin. She woke up terrified wondering whether it was just a dream or the truth.

She related her dream to VaguLa Maalikai and spent the whole day worrying about that weird dream.

தளபதிகளை அனுப்பினான் நாற்படைகளுடன்
களத்துக்குக் காலகேது பூரண ஆயுத பணிகளாக.

“அழைந்து வந்தாள் ஆருயிர் தோழி ஒருவனை!
அழையா விருந்தாளியாக வந்துள்ளது யார் கூறு!

தந்தையோ உறவினனோ எனில் வரவேற்பேன்
சொந்தம் இல்லை எனில் அழித்துவிடுவேன். ”

காலகேது மிரட்டினான் ஏகாவலியை – தன்னுடைய
காலம் நெருங்கி விட்டதை அறியவில்லை அவன்.

ஓடி வந்தனர் தூதர் அவனைத் தேடிக் கொண்டு,
“நாடி வந்து விட்டது நகரினுள் பகைவர் சேனை!”

போருக்குச் சென்றான் காலகேது வேறு வழியின்றி;
போர்க்களத்தில் கண்டான் ஏகவீரன், யசோவதியை.

யுத்தம் நடந்தது இருவர் இடையே – கதையால்
சத்தம் இன்றி விழுந்து மடிந்தான் காலகேது.

சிறைச் சாலை சென்றனர் யசோவதி, ஏகவீரன்.
சிறை மீட்டனர் இளவரசி ஏகாவலியை விரைந்து.

கூறினாள் யசோவதி நடந்தவற்றை ஏகாவலிக்கு;
ஏறினாள் பல்லக்கில் கைதிக் கோலத்தில் ஏகாவலி.

மனம் வருந்தினான் ஏகவீரன் கருணையினால்;
மனம் திறந்து பேசினான் தன் மன விருப்பத்தை.

மன்னனிடம் ஒப்படைத்தான் ஏகாவலியை;
மன்னன் மகிழ்ந்தான் மகளின் வருகையால்.

நடந்தவற்றைக் கூறினாள் யசோவதி மன்னனுக்கு;
நடக்கவிருப்பதைக் கூறினான் மன்னன் அவளுக்கு.

நடத்தினான் திருமணத்தை ஒரு நன்னாளில்;
கிடத்தினான் ஸ்ரீதனந்தை ஏகவீரன் காலடியில்.

கிருத வீர்யன் பிறந்தான் ஏக வீரனின் மகனாக;
கிருத வீர்யன் மகனாகப் பிறந்தான் கார்த்த வீர்யன்.

6#23b. The valor and the wedding (2)

Kaalaketu sent his generals with his chaturanga sena to fight with Ekaveeran and army. He went to Princess Ekaavali and spoke to her, “Your dear friend has brought a stranger with her. Is he your father or a relative? If so, I will welcome him here. If not, I will destroy him now!”

Meanwhile his messengers came there looking for him. They told him, “The enemy has entered our city. Please hurry up!”. Kaalaketu went to fight since he has very little choice now.

A fierce fight went on between Ekaveeran and Kaalaketu. A blow from the mace of Ekaveeran finished off Kaalaketu. Yasovati and Ekaveeran went to the prison and freed Ekaavali. She got in to palanquin in the same way she had been imprisoned. Yasovati told her the recent happenings. Ekaveeran’s heart melted with sympathy.

They all went to meet the king – the father of Ekaavali. He was very happy since his daughter had come back home safely. He decided to perform the wedding of his daughter with Ekaveeran. The wedding was performed in a grand manner and a large dowry was presented to Ekaveeran.

Krutaveeryan was born to Ekaveeran. Kaarthaveeryan was born to Krutaveeryan and the Haihaya race flourished once again.

13e. ஐயம் ஏற்பது

வசித்தனர் முனிவர்கள் தாருகா வனத்தில்;
நேசிக்கவில்லை அவர்கள் சிவபெருமானை.

வீடுபேறு தரும் சிவனை வணங்காமலேயே
வீடுபேறு விழைந்தனர் கரும மார்க்கத்தில்.

தவம் புரிந்தனர்; வேள்விகள் செய்தனர்;
சிவன் விரும்பினார் மாறுபாட்டை நீக்கிவிட.

அழகிய ஆண் உருவம் தரித்தார் பெருமான்;
அழகிய பெண்ணாக மாறினார் திருமால்.

திகம்பர வடிவில் திரிந்தார் பெருமான்!
திகைக்க வைக்கும் மோகினி திருமால்!

மோகினி சென்றாள் முனிவர்களிடம்;
மோகத்தால் மயங்கினர் முனிவர்கள்.

தவித்தனர் கொண்ட காமத்தால் – பரி
தவித்தனர் தவத்தைத் துறந்து விட்டு.

ஐயம் ஏற்பவனாக மாறிய பெருமான்
ஐயக் கடிகையுடன் தெருவை அடைந்து

மறைகளைப் பாடினார் நல்லிசையுடன்;
நிறை அழிந்தனர் முனிவர் மனைவியர்.

உள்ளம் உருகியது தேவ கானத்தில்;
கள்ளம் புகுந்தது மோக உள்ளத்தில்.

அவிழ்ந்தன அணிகலன்கள், வளைகள்,
நெகிழ்ந்தன இடையில் ஆடைகள்.

நாணம் கெட்டுக் கற்பும் கெட்டனர்.
ஆணழகனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர்.

கண் பார்வையிலேயே கர்ப்பம் தரித்து
ஈன்றனர் நாற்பத்தெண்ணாயிரம் மக்களை.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13d. Begging for food.

Several rushis lived in Taarukaa vanam. They did not love Siva. They believed in Karma Maargam to attain moksham.They did penance. They performed yaaga and yagna.

Siva decided it was time to make them see the truth. He transformed himself into a handsome young mendicant. Vishnu became the irresistible Mohini.

The mendicant was a digambara – and did not wear any clothes. Mohini went to the rushis. They fell head over heels in love with her. They could not get their desires fulfilled nor could they continue their penance.

The digambara beggar reached the street where huts of the rushis were situated. He had a begging bowl in his hands. He sang the Vedas in a sweet voice. The wives of the rushis fell in love at the very first sight of the young mendicant.

They were mesmerized by his beauty, his youth, his songs and started to follow him. Their ornaments became loose due to their ‘viraga taapam’ and their clothes became disheveled. The lost their sense of shame and virtue.

They became pregnant by the very sight of Siva and delivered 48,000 children.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

30a. தீப லக்ஷ்மி

மன நிம்மதி இழந்து விட்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி;
மனம் கலங்கியது நடப்பதைக் கண்டு.

‘கபிலரின் ஆசிரமத்தில் தங்கிவிட்டால்
கரவீர புரத்திலிருந்து திரும்பி விடுவான்!’

எண்ணிய எண்ணம் தவறானது – கணவன்
பண்ணுகின்றான் தவம் பத்ம ஸரோவரில்.

கூறினாள் மனக் கவலையைக் கபிலரிடம்;
கோரினார் கபிலர் பிரிந்து வந்த காரணத்தை.

“வாசஸ்தலத்தைக் களங்கம் செய்த பிறகு
வசிக்க முடியுமா மீண்டும் என்னால் அங்கு?”

“மகன் போன்றவன் அல்லவா பிருகு ருஷி ?
மகனிடம் கோபம் கொள்ளலாமா ஒரு தாய்?

கணவனைப் பிரிந்து தனியே வரலாமா?
கணவனைத் தவத்தில் தவிக்க விடலாமா?

பாராமுகம் செய்வது தகுமா தேவி? இங்கு
யாராவது மகிழ்ச்சியாக உள்ளார்களா?

தவிக்கின்றீர்கள் நீங்கள் தனிமையில்;
தவிக்கின்றான் பகவான் தவம் செய்து;

தவிக்கின்றாள் பத்மாவதி கவைலையில்
தவிப்பினால் விளைந்த நன்மை என்ன?

மலரில் சென்று எழுந்தருள்வீர் தாயே!
பல காலம் செய்த தவம் பலிக்கட்டும்!”

தீபச் சுடர் உருவில் தோன்றி பகவானின்
தாபம் தீர்த்தாள் தாமரையில் லக்ஷ்மி.

தேவி தோன்றியவுடன் பிரகாசித்தது
கோடி சூரிய ஒளியுடன் தாமரை மலர்.

நிஷ்டை கலைந்து எழுந்தான் பகவான்!
இஷ்டத்துடன் நோக்கினான் லக்ஷ்மியை.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#30a. Deepa Lakshmi

Lakshmi Devi had lost her peace of mind. She had imagined that when Srinivaasan did not find her in Karaveera puram he would go back to Seshaachalam. But he had stayed back and had started doing severe penance on her.

She shared her worries with sage Kapila. He asked her the reason why she had left Vishnu and walked away from him. “Brugu insulted my living place by kicking on Bhagavaan’s chest. How can I continue to live there after being insulted thus?” Lakshmi asked the sage.

“But sage Brugu is your son. A mother can never get annoyed with her son so much that she would walk away from her husband. What is the outcome of your anger Devi? Everyone is unhappy. You are unhappy and alone here.

Bhagavaan is unhappy and doing penance for your return. Padmaavati is unhappy, alone and wondering what is happening here! It is high time that your appeared to Bhagavaan on the lotus flower and make him stop his penance. ”

Lakshmi Devi realized that the sage was speaking the truth. She decided to appear on the lotus flower with one thousand petals. She chose to appear as the flame of a lamp on the lotus flower. Her brilliance was superior to ten million sun shining together.

Srinivaasan could feel the brilliance even in his nishtai. He woke up, got up and looked at Deepa Lakshmi with deep affection and love.

6#24a. வியாசரின் விசனம் (1)

திரிலோக சஞ்சாரியாகிய நாரத முனிவர்
சிரித்த முகத்தோடு வந்தார் வியாசரிடம்.

“விசனமே வாழ்க்கை, இன்பம் அல்ல – வாழ்வில்
விசனம் நிலைத்ருக்கும்; இன்பம் மறைந்துவிடும்.

பிறந்தேன் ஒரு தீவில் ஒரு கன்னிக்கு – அவள்
துறந்துவிட்டாள் என்னை நான் பிறந்தவுடனேயே.

வளர்ந்தேன் காட்டில் தனியாக நான்;
தளராது தவம் செய்தேன் புத்திரனுக்காக.

கிடைத்தான் பிரம்ம ஞானியான மகன் சுகன்,
கிடைத்தும் பயன் இல்லை, விட்டுச் சென்றான்.

அலைந்து திரிந்து தேடினேன் அவனை;
பலன் இல்லை; புத்திர சோகம் தீரவில்லை.

பிறகு தேடிச் சென்றேன் பெற்ற தாயை;
கருவுற்றிருந்தாள் சந்தனுவை மணந்து.

ஆசிரமம் அமைத்தேன் சரஸ்வதி தீரத்தில்;
வாசம் செய்தேன் அதில், தவம் புரிந்தேன்;

அடைந்தான் சந்தனு சொர்க்க வாழ்வை;
கிடைத்தது பாதுகாப்பு காங்கேயனிடமிருந்து

இரு இளவல்களுக்கும் தாய் சத்தியவதிக்கும்
பொறுப்புள்ள பெரிய மகன் அவன் ஆனதால்.

முடி சூட்டினான் மன்னனாக சித்திராங்கதனுக்கு;
பிடிபடவில்லை மகிழ்ச்சி அதனால் சத்தியவதிக்கு!

முடிந்து போனது அவன் காலமும் வெகுவிரைவில்;
முடி சூட்டினான் அதன்பின் விசித்திர வீரியனுக்கு !

மடிந்து போனான் அவனும் க்ஷய ரோகத்தில்!
மடிந்த கணவனுடன் மடிந்துவிட எண்ணினர்;

உடன் கட்டை ஏற விரும்பினர் மனைவியர்;
தடை செய்து விட்டாள் தாய் சத்தியவதி.

6#24a. Vyaasaa’s sorrow (1)

Devarushi Naarada came to sage Vyaasaa one day. Vyaasaa was sad and told Naarada.”Life is a full of sorrows. Happiness is ephemeral and elusive. Sorrow is the only permanent thing in a man’s life.

I was born to an unwed virgin in an island. I was forsaken by her as soon as I was born. I grew up all alone in a forest. I spent a long time in doing penance to get a good son. I got Brahma Gnaani Sukan as my son, but he too left me all alone and went away. I went around looking for him but in vain.

Then I went looking for my mother. She had married king Santhanu and was pregnant at that time. So I went away quietly and settled in an ashram at the bank of river Saraswati. I spent all my time in penance.

Meanwhile Santhanu had attained swarggam. Kaangeyan took care of my mother Satyavati and her two sons.Chitraangathan was made the new king. Satyavati was overwhelmed with joy to see her son as the new king.

But he died soon without any children. Vichitraveeryan was made the new king now. He too died of tuberculosis without any children. The wives of the dead kings wanted to perform sati but Satyavati stopped them from performing sati."

13f. முனிவர்கள் சினம்

அருட்பார்வையால் உருவாகிய மக்கள்
திருவடிகளை வணங்கித் துதித்தனர்.

“என்னை எண்ணித் தவம் செய்வீர்!” எனப்
பின்னர் பிரான் பணித்தார் அம்மக்களை.

முனிவர் மனைவியர் வழி நடந்தனர்
மனத்தை மயக்கிய திகம்பரர் பின்னே!

மோகினி தொடர்ந்தாள் பெருமானை;
மோகினியைத் தொடர்ந்தனர் முனிவர்.

மனைவியரின் இழி நிலை கண்டதும்
மன மயக்கம் நீங்கினர் முனிவர்கள்.

பெண்ணைக் கண்டு தாம் மயங்கியது போல்
ஆணைக் கண்டு அவர்களும் மயங்கினர்!

“நிறை அழிந்த நீங்கள் உயிர் விடுங்கள்!
பிறந்த ஊர்களுக்குச் சென்று விடுங்கள்!”

தெளிந்த பின் திரும்பினர் பெண்கள்
களிப்பின்றித் தம் இருப்பிடங்களுக்கு!

6#13f. The anger of the sages.

The children born out of the graceful glance of Siva worshiped him. Siva told them, “Do penance concentrating on me!”

The wives of the rushis followed Siva as if in a trance. Mohini also followed Siva. The rushis followed Mohini. When they saw the sad plight their wives were in, the rushis became very angry.

They had fallen in Love with Mohini. In the same way their wives had fallen for the mendicant. They spoke to their wives with anger, “You have lost your chastity! Either kill yourselves or return to your parents”

The wives if the rushis came out of their trance and returned to their homes.

30b. பிணக்குத் தீர்ந்தது!

தாமரையில் மகாலக்ஷ்மி தோன்றியதும்
தாமதமின்றி விரைந்து வந்தனர் தேவர்.

பிரிந்தவர் சேரும் வைபவத்தைக் காணப்
பெரிய பாக்கியம் செய்திருக்க வேண்டுமே!

தேவர்கள் துதித்தனர் தேவியைப் பலவாறு;
தேவி இறங்கவில்லை தாமரையை விட்டு.

பிருகுவிடம் பேசினார் ஈசன் தனிமையில்,
“பிரிவுக்குக் காரண கர்த்தா நீரே அல்லவா?

தேவியிடம் சென்று மன்னிப்புக் கேட்பீர்!” என,
தேவியிடம் சென்று பிருகு கேட்டார் மன்னிப்பு.

சாந்தம் அடைந்து இறங்கினாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி.
சந்தனம் பூசினாள் பகவான் வக்ஷஸ்தலத்தில்.

வணங்கினாள் அவனை மண்டியிட்டு – அவளைப்
பிணக்குத் தீர்ந்து மார்பில் அமர்த்தினான் அவன்.

கந்தருவர் இசையுடன் கலந்து மலர் சொரிந்திட,
துந்துபி முழங்கியது எண் திசைகளிலும் பரவி.

அப்சரஸ் விண்ணில் ஆடினர் ஆனந்த நடனம்.
அருளினார் பகவான் உலகுக்குச் சிறந்த வரம்.

“கார்த்திகை மாத சுத்த பஞ்சமியில் – பத்ம
தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடுபவருக்கு சகல சம்பத்து.”

அனைவரும் அடைந்தனர் சேஷாசலம் ;
அனைவரையும் வரவேற்றாள் பத்மாவதி.

ஆரத்தி எடுத்தாள்; திருஷ்டி கழித்தாள் அவள்;
ஆனந்தத்தில் தத்தளித்தாள் வகுள மாலிகை!

30b. Happy Reunion

When the news spread that Mahaalakshmi had appeared on the lotus flower in the Padma theertham, the Devas rushed there. The happy reunion of the Lord and Devi was not to be missed at any cost.

The Deva worshiped Devi and sang her praise but Lakshmi did not get down from the lotus flower. Siva understood the reason. He spoke to Sage Brugu and told him,

“You have been the cause of the separation between Vishnu and Lakshmi. You must go and request Devi to return to her lord”

Brugu begged for Devi’s pardon and pleaded with her to return to her lord. Lakshmi Devi became pacified. She got down from the lotus flower. She smeared the fragrant sandal paste on lord’s chest – where she used to live.

She knelt to him and paid obeisance. Their differences had been ironed out now. Lord was happy to lift her back to her original abode in his broad chest.

The Gandharvas sang and showered flowers. Dundubi blared and spread the joy. The apsaras did a dance of delight. Srinivaasan gave a special boon to the world.

“Whosoever bathed in the Padma theertham on the Suddha panchami day in the month of Kaarthigai will be blessed with every good fortune and the eight kinds of richness.”

Everyone now went to Seshaachalam. Padmaavati welcomed them. She did haarathi to the couple. VaguLa Maalikai was overwhelmed with happiness.

6#24b. வியாசரின் விசனம் (2)

“சோகத்துடன் என்னை நினைவு கூர்ந்தாள் அன்னை;
வேகத்துடன் சென்று அடைந்தேன் நான் அவளிடம்;

“நசித்துப் போகக் கூடாது நம் வம்சம் – அதனால்
உசிதமாக உற்பத்தி செய்வாய் உந்தன் சந்ததிகளை.

கூடிக் கலப்பாய் தம்பியர் மனிவியரோடு – அதனால்
கேடில்லாமல் விருத்தி அடையும் வம்சம்!” என்றாள்.

“சகோதரன் மனைவி ஒருவன் மகளுக்குச் சமம் அல்லவா?
சம்மதிக்க மாட்டேன் இந்தத் தீச் செயலுக்கு ஒருநாளும்!”

“பற்றாது பாவம் பெரியோர் ஆணைப்படி நடந்தால்;
பற்றாது பாவம் உன் தாயின் தாபத்தைத் தீர்ப்பதால்.”

வற்புறுத்தினாள் என் அன்னை சத்தியவதி – மேலும்
வற்புறுத்தினான் காங்கேயனும் தாய் சத்தியவதியுடன்.

வந்தாள் அம்பிகை என்னுடன் கூடுவதற்கு – ஆனால்
வெறுப்பினால் கண்களை மூடிக் கொண்டு விட்டாள்.

சாபம் தந்தேன் “கண்ணற்ற மகன் பிறப்பான்!” எனக்
கோபம் எல்லை மீறி விட்டதால் நான் அம்பிகைக்கு.

தாபம் அடைந்தாள் எந்தன் தாய் சத்தியவதி – மிகவும்
துக்கப்பட்டாள் என் தாய் என் அவிவேகச் செயலால்!

துக்கப் பட்டேன் நானும் என் அவசர சாபத்துக்கு.
விக்கினம் இன்றிக் குருடனால் அரசாள முடியுமா?"

6#24b. Vyaasaa’s sorrow (2)

My mother Satyavati remembered me with deep sorrow. I had promised her to go to her whenever she remembered me. So I hurried to her. She was sad since her other two sons had died without leaving behind any children.

She told me,”Help the wives of your brothers to produce worthy children. Our race must not come to an end with my sons.”

I told her,”The wife of one’s younger brother is equal to one’s own daughter. I can never perform this service for the sake of our race to continue.”

My mother would not give up so easily. He told me,”There is no sin incurred when a man obeys his mother’s commands or fulfills her wishes.”

Satyavrathan also joined with her in brainwashing me to perform this act. Finally I gave in to their wishes. Accordingly Ambikai was sent to me that night.

She did not feel any love towards me. She was afraid of me and closed her eyes tight during the act of love. I got terribly upset and cursed her, ” May you bear a blind son since you shut your eyes tight when we were in union!”

My mother was very upset with this. I too hated myself for being so hasty in cursing Ambikai. How can a blind man rule a kingdom well without any problems?” Thus Sage Vyaasaa told Naarada.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

13g. முனிவரின் வேள்வி

சீலம் பறி போன முனி புங்கவர்கள்
சினம் கொண்டனர் சிவபிரான் மேல்!

இழிந்த வேள்வி ஒன்று புரிந்தனர்.
எழுந்தது கொடும் வரிப் புலி ஒன்று!

இடிபோல உறுமி வந்தது அது.
கொடிய சினம் கொண்டது அது.

“சிவனைக் கொன்று வா! ” என ஏவ,
சிவன் புலியைக் கொன்று விட்டார்!

வரிப் புலியின் அழகிய தோலை
உரித்து உடையாக உடுத்தார் சிவன்.

முத்தலைச் சூலம் தோன்றியது ஒன்று!
முக்கண்ணன் மீது ஏவினர் முனிவர்;

முத்தலைச் சூலத்தைப் பற்றிய சிவன்
அத்தைப் பணித்தார் “எம் படையாகுக!”

மான் கன்று தோன்றியது வேள்வியில்;
மண்ணுலகம் கண்டதில்லை அதுபோல!

விண்ணில் பாய்ந்து செல்ல வல்லது!
மண்ணுலகப் பொருட்களை அழித்தது.

சிவன் மேல் செலுத்தினர் மான் கன்றை;
சிவன் அதை ஏந்தினார் தம் கரத்தில்.

சிவனை அழிக்க ஏவிய பூதப்படையை
சிவன் மாற்றி விட்டார் தம் படைகளாக.

வெண்தலை ஒன்று வேள்வியில் வெளிப்பட,
வெண்ணீற்று ஈசன் அணிந்தான் சடைமேல்.

மறைகளை எல்லாம் ஒன்றாக்கினர் முனிவர்.
மறைகள் மாறின ஒலிக்கும் உடுக்கையாக!

உலகம் செவிடாகும்படி ஒலித்துக் கொண்டு
நிலவணி பிரானை நெருங்கியது உடுக்கை.

“செவியின் அருகே நின்று ஒலிப்பாய்!எனச்
சிவன் பணித்தான் மறை உடுக்கையினை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13g. The yaaga of the sages.

The rushis who had lost their integrity became very angry with Siva. They performed a mean yagna
to destroy Siva.

A ferocious tiger emerged from the yagna. It was ordered to kill Siva but Siva killed it instead. He tore off the skin of the tiger and wore it as a dress.

A trisoola emerged from the yagna. It was aimed at Siva. Siva caught hold of it and ordered it, ”Become one of my weapons!”

A deer emerged from the yagna. The world had never seen such an unusual deer. It could jump through the sky. It destroyed the things on the earth. It was sent to kill Siva. Siva caught hold of it in one of his hands.

An army of demons emerged from the yagna. Siva made it his own army.

A skull emerged from the fire. Siva wore it on his matted coils.

Then rushis made the Vedas into a damroo (udukkai) and set it on Siva. The damroo made a deafening noise and came near Siva.

Siva ordered the damroo made of Veda,”Be near my ear and keep chanting the Vedas!”
