DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 6

6#21b. யசோவதி (2)

“செய்தனர் புத்திர காமேஷ்டி யாகம்,
பெய்தனர் நெய்யை ஹோம அக்னியில்;

தோன்றினாள் தீச் சுடர் நடுவே ஒரு பெண்;
தோன்றினாள் பொற்கொடி போன்ற அழகி.

ஏகாவலி என்ற பெயரிட்டான் கன்னிக்கு,
ராஜ போகத்துடன் வளர்த்தனர் கன்னியை.

மகன் பிறக்கவில்லையே என வருந்தவில்லை;
மகளையே மகனாகக் கருதி வளர்த்தினர் நன்கு.

வளர்ந்தாள் வளர்பிறை போல ஏகாவலி;
வளர்ந்தாள் அழகிய தோழியர் புடை சூழ.

அமைச்சரின் மகள் யசோவதி ஆவேன் நான்;
அமைந்தேன் ஏகாவலியின் உயிர்தோழியாக.

இருந்தோம் இணை பிரியாமல் இருவரும்;
இருந்தது கொள்ளைப் பிரியம் தாமரை மீது.

விளையாடுவோம் தாமரைத் தடாகத்து நீரில்!
விளையக் கூடாது ஏகாவலிக்கு ஆபத்து என

அளித்தான் மன்னன் காவலரை எங்களுக்கு;
களித்தோம் தடாக நீரில் காவலர் காவலில்.”

6#21b. Yasovati (2)

The king Raibyar and Queen Rukmarekha performed putra kaameshti yaagaa seeking a worthy son. When they poured the ghee in the homa kundam, a beautiful girl appeared from amidst the flames. She shone like a statue made of gold.

The king and queen named her as Ekaavali and brought her up well. They did not feel sorry for not getting a son but brought up the girl as if she were a son.

I am the daughter of a minister. My name is Yasovati and I am the best friend of princess Ekaavali. We were always together. We loved the lotus flowers and used to play in the lotus ponds.

The King wanted to make sure that no harm befell us. He provided us with guards and we played in the water with abandon under their protection.”

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

12c. ததீசியும், தக்கனும்

“சிவன் அவியைத் தருவேன் மாலுக்கு!
அவன் அருள் தேவை இல்லை எனக்கு!”

“பெரியோரைத் தாழ்த்தியும் மற்றும்
சிறியோரை உயர்த்தியும் செய்யும்

செயல் பயனற்றது மட்டுமின்றிப்
பயக்கும் தீமை உன் சுற்றத்துக்கு.”

“ருத்திரர்களுக்கு அளிப்பேன் அவியை!”
“ருத்திரர் சிவனின் சாரூப்ய அடியவர்”

“படைக்கும் காக்கும் கடவுளை விட
அழிக்கும் கடவுள் மேலானவனா?”

“ஆதி அந்தம் இல்லாத ஜோதிக்கு
ஏது வடிவும், செயலும், பிறவும்?

மறைகள் உலகுக்கு இவ்வுண்மையை
அறை கூவுவதை நீ அறியவில்லையா?


படைத்தான் பிரமன், நெடுமாலை!
கொடுத்தான் இருவருக்கும் தொழில்.

பிறவிக் கடலில் வீழ்ந்தவரை மீண்டும்
கரை ஏற்றுபவன் சிவபெருமானே!

தேவர்களின் செல்வத்தைக் கவரமுயன்ற
தீக் கடவுளைத் தடுத்தவன் சிவபெருமான்.

அழியும் இயல்பை உடைய தேவர்கள்
வழிமாறி வந்தனர் உன் வேள்விக்கு!

பிழைக்க விரும்பினால் தக்கனே!
இழைக்காதே இப்பெரும் பிழையை!”

6#12c. Dadeechi and Dakshan.

Dakshan continued, ” I will give Siva’s share of havis to Vishnu. I do not require Siva’s blessings any more!”

“Degrading great gods and promoting subordinates will be not only useless but also harmful to your clan” Dadeechi replied.

Dakshan said,”I will give the havis to Rudraas” and Dadeechi replied. “But Rudraas are the saaroopya mukthaas of Siva!”

Dakshan argued further,”How can the god of destruction be superior to the gods of creation and protection?”

“Siva is without a beginning or an end. He has neither a form nor GunAs nor any tasks to perform. Vedas declare these facts to the world! Are you not aware of them? Siva created Vishnu and Brahma and gave them tasks to perform.

Only Siva can give mukthi from samsaaram. Siva stopped Agni from looting the wealth of the Deva. The Devas who have attended your yaaga are destined to die. If you want to live long, give up the idea performing this yagnaa!” Dadeechi warned Daksha.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

27d. விமானம்

பீமன் மனைவி கழுவினாள் அன்புடன்
பகவான் திருப் பாதங்களை நீரினால்.

பரப்பி இருந்தது குடிசையில் மண்.
பரப்பினர் அதன் மேல் ஒரு பாயை.

அமர்ந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் அதன் மேல்,
அழகிய மணை மேல் அமர்வது போல்.

இரவு உணவு வெறும் கூழும், உப்பும்.
இருப்பதை மிக விரும்பிக் குடித்தார்.

‘எளியவருக்கு எளியவன் இறைவன்!’
என்பது எத்தனை பெரிய உண்மை!

விமானம் இறங்கியது விண்ணிலிருந்து
விண்ணில் பறந்தான் கருடன் உடனே.

பத்மாவதி வந்தாள் கருடன் மீதேறி.
பகவானுடன் இணையாக நின்றாள்.

ஆசி பெற்ற பீமனும், மனைவியும்
அதிசய விமானம் ஏறிச் சென்றனர்!

“நான், எனது என்பதை ஒழித்தேன்!
நாயேனுக்கும் அருள்வீர் பரமபதம்!”

இறங்கியது ஒரு தங்க விமானம் தரையில்;
பறந்தது தொண்டைமானுடன் விரைவில்.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

27d. The Vimaanam

Beeman’s wife washed the feet of the lord with fresh water. They had heaped some mud inside their hut. A mat was spread on the leveled heap. Srinivaasan sat on the mat as if it were a royal peetam.

The simple food consisted of a porridge and salt. The entire food was offered to god. He relished the food and ate the whole thing. To god, whatever we offer with love, becomes nectar.

A vimaanam descended form the sky. Garudan took off to bring Padmaavati Devi. Srinivaasan and Padmaavati gave them the dharshan Beeman and his wife had prayed for all their lives. The devotee couple took their blessings, got into the vimaanam and flew away.

ThoNdaimaan told Srinivaasan, “I have realized how I had become corrupted in bhakti by my anakaaram and mamakaaram. Now I am rid of those completely. Please give me parama padam!”

Srinivaasan knew that ThoNdaimaan spoke the truth and blessed him as he had wished for. A gold vimaanam came down. ThoNdaimaan got into it and it flew high into the sky taking him to Vaikuntham.

6#22a. ஏகாவலி (1)

வந்தனர் அப்சரஸ் தாமரைத் தடாகத்துக்கு;
விந்தையாக நீராடினர் உல்லாசமாக நீரில்.

கண்டோம் காலகேது அரக்கன் வருவதை;
கண்டோம் ஆயுத பாணி அசுரவீரர்களை !

அஞ்சி ஓடினோம் நீர்நிலையை விடுத்து;
தஞ்சம் புகுந்தோம் காவல் வீரர் நடுவே.

நையப் புடைத்தனர் அசுரர் தண்டத்தால்;
கைப்பற்றிட விரும்பினர் ஏகாவலியை !

“என்னைப் பற்றிக் கொள்! விடு அவளை!”
என்று துணிந்து சொன்னேன் அசுர வீரரிடம்.

என்னையும் கைப் பற்றினான் காலகேது;
ஏற்றினான் எங்களைத் தேரில் தன்னுடன்.

தேற்றினேன் ஏகாவலியை இயன்ற மட்டும்;
தேர் பறந்தது அவன் இருப்பிடம் நோக்கி.

பால் போன்ற ஒரு வெள்ளை மாளிகையில்
பலத்த காவலில் வைத்தான் இருவரையும்!

அழுது கொண்டே இருந்தாள் ஏகாவலி;
தொழுது கொண்டே இருந்தேன் சக்தி தேவியை.

“மணந்து கொள் என்னை உன் மணாளனாக்கி;
மனம் கோணாது இன்புறச் செய்வேன் உன்னை.

வீணாக்காதே பெண்ணே அழகை, இளமையை,
வாணாள் போனால் மீண்டும் வராது!” என்றான்.

“நிச்சயித்தார் தந்தை ஹைஹய மன்னனை;
இச்சை கொண்டேன் நானும் அவன் மீது.

மனத்தை அவனுக்கு அளித்து விட்டேன்!
மணத்தை உன்னுடன் புரிய மாட்டேன்!”

உறுதியாகக் கூறிவிட்டாள் ஏகாவலி – தன்னை
மறுபடி மறுபடி வற்புறுத்திய காலகேதுவிடம்.

6#22a. Ekaavali (2)

One day a few apsaras came to the lotus pond. They too bathed in the water happily. Then we saw the asuran Kaalaketu approaching the pond with his armed men.

We got scared and ran out of the water and hid among the soldiers guarding us. The asura beat up the guards blue and purple and tried to kidnap princess Ekaavali. I went forward and told them boldly, “Leave the princess alone. Take me away in her place”

But the asuras captured both of us. Kalaketu made us climb onto his chariot. It sped fast until it reached his abode. I tried to console Ekaavali who was in tears all the time. The chariot stopped in front of a milk white palace. We two were kept under house arrest there.

Kaalaketu kept pressurizing Ekaavali to marry him. He promised her a life filled with pleasures, joys and riches. He advised her not to waste her youth and beauty in vain.

But Ekaavali told him,”My father has fixed the prince of Haihaya race as my husband. I too have given him my heart. I can’t marry anyone other than him now. “

13a. கேள்விக் கணைகள்

நகைத்தான் தக்கன் இதைக் கேட்டு.
“நன்றாக இருக்கிறது உங்கள் கூற்று!

பரம் பொருள் என்பவர் அணிவாரோ
பாரமான எலும்புத் தலை மாலையை?

திருநீறு பூசித் திரிவரோ மேனியில்?
திருவோடு கரத்தில் ஏந்தி நடப்பரோ?

முடியைக் களைந்து நடப்பரோ அன்றி
முடிமேல் பிறையினை அணிவாரோ?

பூணுவாரோ ஒரு பன்றிக் கோட்டினை?
அணிவாரோ ஓர் ஆமை ஓட்டினை?

உடுப்பரோ ஒரு வரிப் புலித் தோலை?
உடுப்பரோ கரிய யானைத் தோலை?

முத்தலைச் சூலத்தைத் தொடுவாரோ?
பிச்சை எடுத்து அதை உண்பாரோ?

பணியே கூத்தாடுவது என இருப்பாரோ?
பணிகளை அணிகளாக அணிவரோ?

ஆடையின்றி எங்கும் அலைவாரோ?
சுடலையில் நடனம் செய்வாரோ?

தலையில் பெண்ணைச் சுமப்பாரோ?
தாமச குணத்தில் நிலைப்பாரோ?”

6#13a. The questions raised by Dakshan.

Dakshan laughed and said to Dadeechi,
” Your words make me laugh.
Will the supreme God wear a garland made of skulls?
Will he smear ash all over his body?
Will he carry a bowl and beg for his food?
Will he shave his head and roam around ?
Will he sport the crescent moon on his matted coils?
Will he wear the tusk of a boar?
Will he wear the shell of a tortoise?
Will he wear the skin of a striped tiger?
Will he wear the black hide of an elephant?
Will he carry a deer and mazhu in his two hands?
Will he make trisoola his weapon?
Will he eat alms like a beggar?
will he spend all his time in dancing?
will he wear poisonous snakes as his jewels?
will he roam around with demons as his companions?
Will he walk around stark naked?
Will he dance in the cremation ground?
will he carry a woman on his head?
Will he be established in Tamasa guna?"

28a. வட்டி கட்ட வழி?

ஆனந்தமாக இருந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்,
ஆனந்த நிலயத்தில் பத்மாவதியுடன்.

பக்தர்கள் தேடி வந்தனர் பகவானை;
சக்திக்கு ஏற்ப காணிக்கை அளித்தனர்.

மகிழ்வுடன் பகவான் இருந்த போதிலும்,
நெகிழ்வுடன் நினைப்பதுண்டு லக்ஷ்மியை!

‘உற்சாகம் குன்றி பகவான் இருப்பதற்கு
உபசரணையில் உள்ள குறைபாடுகளோ?’

பத்மாவதி ஆலோசிப்பதுண்டு அடிக்கடி;
பகவானிடம் கேட்டுவிட்டாள் நேரடியாக.

“சுகமாக இருப்பதை விட்டு அடிக்கடி நீங்கள்
சோகமாகி விடுவதின் காரணம் கூறுங்கள்!”

“லக்ஷ்மி என்னைப் பிரிந்ததனால் வாழ்க்கை
லக்ஷ்யம் இழந்ததைப் போல ஆகிவிட்டது.

திருமணச் செலவுக்கு வாங்கினேன் கடன்
திருப்பித் தர வேண்டும் கலியுக முடிவில்.

வட்டி கட்ட வேண்டும் வருடா வருடம்
கட்ட வில்லை வட்டி ஒரு வருடம் கூட.

லக்ஷ்மி மீண்டும் என்னிடம் வந்தால் தான்
லக்ஷணமாகும் நம் வாழ்க்கை!” என்றான்.

“லக்ஷ்மி வருவதில் தடை என்ன சுவாமி?”என,
“லக்ஷ்மி உனக்குப் போட்டி அல்லவா?”என,

“இந்த வாழ்க்கையே லக்ஷ்மி தந்தது!
அந்த லக்ஷ்மியை நான் வெறுப்பேனா?

அழைத்து வருவோம் நாம் சென்று!” என்றாள்.
“அழைத்து வருவேன் நான் சென்று!” என்றான்.

வகுள மாலிகை துணையானாள் அவளுக்கு.
பகவான் மட்டும் சென்றார் கரவீரபுரத்துக்கு.

28a. Payment of the Interest

Srinivaasan lived happily in Aanandha Nilayam with Padmaavati. His devotees visited him and offered money in the Hundi – according to their richness.

He would often think of Lakshmi Devi with a soft tender feeling. How different his life would have been if only Lakshmi did not leave him at all!

Padmaavati noticed his change and wondered if she was not doing her best to keep him happy. One day she took courage and asked him directly, “why is it that you often seem to be in a pensive mood?”

Srinivaasan told her the truth, “After Lakshmi deserted me, my life seems to be devoid of any purpose or beauty. I have borrowed heavily for our wedding expenses.

The principal of the loan can be returned at the end of Kali yuga but I had promised to pay the annual interest. Till today I have not paid back any interest.”

"Why can’t we bring back Lakshmi here?” Padmaavati asked.

Srinivaasan replied, “She will be a competitor for you in sharing my love and affection”

Padmaavati replied, “The life I live now is a gift bestowed by Lakshmi Devi. I can never feel jealous of her. I will go and request her to come back to you”

Srinivaasan told her, “I myself will go and request her to come back to me!” He made Vagula Maalikai keep company with Padmaavati in his absence and went to Karaveerapuram to bring back Lakshmi Devi.

6#22b. ஏகாவலி (2)

“பலவந்தம் செய்யவில்லை ஏகாவலியை;
பலப்படுத்தினான் அவன் கட்டுக் கவலை.

சிறையில் தவிக்கின்றாள் ஏகாவலி அங்கு!
குறை தீர்க்காமல் அழுகின்றேன் நான் இங்கு!”

“எங்கனம் தப்பிவந்தாய் நீ அங்கிருந்து?
என்ன விந்தை காண் நீ கூறிய மொழிகள்!

ஏகாவலிக்கு மன்னன் நிச்சயித்திருந்த
ஏகவீரன் ஹைஹய அரசன் நானே தான் .

நிச்சயித்த பெண் உங்கள் இளவரசியா?
நிச்சயமாகத் தெரிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

செல்வேன் நானே காலகேது அசுரனிடம்;
வெல்வேன் அவனை, விடுவிப்பேன் அவளை!

மன்னனிடம் கூறாதது ஏன் பெண்ணே- தன்
மகளை மீட்டிருப்பரே அரக்கனை வென்று.

நீ அறிவாய் அங்கு செல்லும் மார்க்கம்
நீ தப்பியுள்ளாய் அம் மாளிகையிலிருந்து. ”

“சிறுமியாக இருந்தேன் நான் அப்போது,
சித்தயோகி உபதேசித்தார் தேவிமந்திரம்.

காலகேதுவின் சிறையில் வாடிய போது
காலம் கருதாமல் ஜபித்தேன் மந்திரத்தை.”

6#22b. Ekaavali (2)

Yasovati continued talking to Ekaveeran. “Kalaketu did not force himself upon Ekaavali. Instead he strengthened the number of guards. She is still suffering there. I am suffering here as I am unable to help her.”

Ekaveeran asked her, “How did you manage to escape from there? I am so surprised by your words. I am Ekaveeran the Haihaya king. I want get this confirmed that your princess is the girl fixed for me.

I shall fight Kalaketu and release the princess from his prison. Please tell me how you managed to escape from there? Even if you had told the king her father, he would have saved her long ago”

Yasovati said, ” When I was a young girl, a yogi taught me the Devi mantraas. I used to chant them all the time when I was imprisoned. They helped me to escape from there.”

13b. எலும்பு அணிதல்

பொங்கிய சினத்தை அடக்கிய முனிவர்
கங்கையணி பிரானைப் போற்றினார்.

“சிவனது திருவுடல் அருள் வடிவானது.
சிவன் பொருந்துவார் தேவர்கள் மீது.

செயல்கள் படைத்தல், காத்தல், அழித்தல்.
உயிர்களுக்கு ஊட்டுவார் வினைப் பயன்.

களிப்புடன் பக்குவம் அடைந்தவர்களுக்கு
அளிப்பார் கிடைப்பதற்கரிய வீடு பேறு!

ஒடுக்குவார் உலகங்களை உயிர்களை.
ஒடுக்குவார் பிரமனைத் திருமாலை.

அழிவின்றித் தான் இருப்பார் என்றும்.
அழிப்பார் மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையுமே.

அணிவார் எலும்பு மாலை அவ்வமயம்.
அணிவார் மயிர்ப் பூணூல் அவ்வமயம்.

அணிவார் முத்தலைச் சூலத்தில் கோர்த்து;
அணிவார் எரித்துவிட்டு அச்சாம்பலை.

முன்னர் தேவர் செய்த தவப்பயனே இவை.
அன்றிப் பிரானின் மருட்செயல் அன்று!

6#13b. Bones as ornaments!

Dadeechi became very angry but controlled it and replied to Dakshan.
“Siva is the personification of mercy. He resides in all the Devaas.
His tasks are the creation, sustenance and destruction of everything.
He gives liberation to the jeevas who are ready to receive it.
He destroys everything. He himself never gets destroyed.
At the time of destruction he wears the garland of skulls and
he wears a poonool made of hair. He uses his trisoola.
He smears the ash obtained after burning down everything.
These are the graces of Siva and not the expressions of his tamasic guna."

28b. பத்ம ஸரோவர்

பகவான் கரவீரபுரம் வருகின்றான் என்றதும்,
பாதாள லோகம் சென்று விட்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி!

கபில முனிவரைக் கண்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி
கபில முனிவர் வரவேற்றார் அங்கே தங்கிவிட!

எந்த இடமானால் என்ன பகவானைத் தியானிக்க?
அந்த இடத்திலே தங்கிவிட்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி.

கரவீரபுரம் அடைந்த ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் கண்டது எது?
வெறிச்சோடிக் கிடந்த தேவியின் இருப்பிடத்தை.

கடுமையான தவம் மேற்கொண்டு விட்டாளா?
காடுகளில் தேடி அலைந்தான் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியை.

திருவுவத்தின் அருகே அமர்ந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்;
தியானம் செய்தான் தன் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியின் மீது.

பத்து ஆண்டுகள் உருண்டு ஓடிவிட்டன – ஆனால்
பார்க்க முடியவில்லை பகவானால் லக்ஷ்மியை

அசரீரி ஒன்று பேசியது ஆகாயத்தில் இருந்து,
“வசப்படமாட்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி உன் தியானத்துக்கு!

ஆயிரம் இதழ்கள் கொண்ட தாமரை மலரினை
அமைப்பாய் பத்ம ஸரோவர் என்ற பொய்கையில்.

கிழக்கில் இருந்து சூரியன் ஒளி வீசும் பொழுது,
அழகிய தாமரையில் உன் தேவி தோன்றுவாள்!”

அடைந்தான் சுவர்ணமுகி தீரத்தை ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.
அனுப்பினான் வாயு தேவனை இந்திர லோகம்.

பறித்து வந்தான் இந்திரனின் அனுமதியோடு
அரிய தாமரை மலர் ஒன்றை வாயுதேவன்.

ஆயிரம் இதழ்த் தாமரையை ஸ்தாபித்தான்;
ஆயிரம் இதழ்த் தாமரை மீது தியானித்தான்.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#28b. Padma Sarovar

The moment Lakshmi Devi knew that Srinivaasan was coming to meet her and take her back with him, she went off to the Paataala lokam. She met sage Kaplia there and decided to stay on there itself. All she wanted to do was to meditate of her lord and any place was good enough for that purpose.

Srinivaasan reached Karaveera puram only to find that Lakshmi had gone away from there already. “Had she go into the forest to take up a more severe penance?” He searched for her everywhere but in vain. He sat near her image and started meditating on her.

Ten years rolled by but Lakshmi did Not appear before him. He then heard an aakaash vaaNi which said, “This kind of meditation will not bring her back to you. Plant a divine lotus flower with one thousand petals in Padma sarovar and meditate on it. When the Sun shines from the east, Lakshmi will appear on that lotus flower.”

Srinivaasan reached the banks of SwarNamukhi. He sent Vaayu Devan to bring a lotus flower with one thousand petals from Indra lokam with Indra’s permission.

Vaayu brought the divine lotus. Srinivaasan planted it in Padma Sarovar and started meditating on it.

6#22c. ஆதி பராசக்தி

“கனவில் தோன்றினாள் ஆதி பராசக்தி – நான்
நனவில் செய்ய வேண்டியதை ஆணையிட்டாள்.

கங்கைக் கரைக்குச் செல் யசோவதி உடனே;
காண்பாய் அங்கே ஹைஹய அரச குமாரனை.

லக்ஷ்மியின் மகன் அவன் பெயர் ஏக வீரன்;
சிஷ்யன் ஆவான் அவன் தத்தாத்ரேயனுக்கு.

தியானித்து வருகின்றான் இடைவிடாது;
தீர்த்து விடுவான் உங்கள் துன்பங்களை.

கூறினால் தேவி எனக்கு இதைக் கனவில்,
கூறினேன் நான் ஏகாவலிக்கு இதை நனவில்.

துயரை மறந்து மகிழ்ந்தாள் ஏகாவளி;
விரைந்து தப்பிச் செல்லச் சொன்னாள்.

தேவியை தியானித்தேன் மீண்டும் நான்;
தோன்றியது தப்பும் வழி தேவி அருளால்.

வந்து சேர்ந்து விட்டேன் கங்கைக் கரைக்கு;
கண்டுவிட்டேன் காண விழைந்த உம்மையும்.

சொல்ல வேண்டும் உம்மைப் பற்றி எனக்கு
செல்லவேண்டும் ஏகாவலியை காப்பதற்கு.”

6#22c. Aadhi Paraa Shakti

Yasovati answered all the queries of Ekaveeran,” I saw Devi Paraa Sakthi in my dream. She told me what was to be done by me. She told me, ‘Go to the bank of River Ganga immediately. You will meet the Haihaya prince here. He is the son of Lakshmi Devi and the disciple of Dhattaathreya. His name is Ekaveeran. He is my staunch devotee. He will put an end to all your troubles and difficulties.’

Devi told me all these in my dream. I told Ekaavali all these. She became very happy and told me to escape from there as told by Devi. I meditated on Devi and found Out a means of escape.

I have reached the bank of River Ganga. I have met you as ordained by Devi. Now please tell me all about you. We must hurry to save the princess Ekaavali from Kaalaketu.”

13c. பன்றிக் கோடு

இரணியன் கவர்ந்தான் அன்று நிலத்தை.
அரக்கன் மறைத்தான் அதை பிலத்தில்.

அஞ்சி நடுங்கின உயிர்த் தொகைகள்;
அச்சம் தீர்க்க வெளி வந்தார் திருமால்

பிரமன் மூக்கில் இருந்து ஒரு பன்றியாக.
மேரு போலப் பேருருவம் எடுத்தது பன்றி!

பிலத்தில் புகுந்து வெளிக் கொணர்ந்தது;
நிலத்தை நிலை நிறுத்தியது முன்போல.

மதித்து தன்னையே ஆணவம் கொண்டு
மதியை இழந்தது மாலாகிய அப்பன்றி.

கிண்டியது நிலத்தைத் கொம்பினால்;
தண்டிக்க வந்தார் நம் சிவபெருமான்.

ஒரு கோட்டை ஈசன் உடைத்ததுமே
மருள் நீங்கித் தூய உணர்வு பெற்றது.

பிடுங்கிய பன்றியின் கோட்டை ஈசன்
பிறைபோல் அணிந்தான் தன் மார்பில்.”

6#13c. The tusk of a boar.

Hiranyaakshan stole the earth and hid it. Vishnu took the avatar as a boar to rid the world of this trouble. He appeared as a small pig from Brahma’s nose. Soon it grew as big as the mount Meru.

It dug below and brought out the world. It established the earth as before. But it also became vary proud and arrogant and started digging the earth with its tusks.

Siva wanted to punish it. He broke away one of the tusks of the boar. The boar came to its right senses immediately. Siva wore the crescent shaped tusk in his chest as an ornament

29a. அப்சரஸ்

நாட்கள் உருண்டு ஓடின – பகவானின் தவம்
நாளுக்கு நாள் தீவிரம் அடைந்தது மேலும்!

பத்ம தீர்த்தத்தின் கரையில் ஒருவன் அமர்ந்து
உக்கிர தவம் செய்வது ஒரு செய்தியானது!

பூலோகத்தில் தவம் நடந்தால் ஆபத்து நிகழும்
தேவலோகத்தை ஆளும் இந்திரனின் பதவிக்கு.

தவத்தைக் குலைத்துக் கலைப்பதற்கு இந்திரன்
தேவ மகளிரை அனுப்பினான் பூலோகத்திற்கு.

பூலோகப் பெண்களைப் போல மாறிவிட்டனர்.
பூஜைக்கு உதவி செய்திட விரும்பி வந்தனர்.

தடை சொல்லவில்லை பகவான் அவர்களிடம்,
நடை பெறவில்லை அவர்கள் விரும்பியதும்!

நெருங்க வில்லை பகவான் அந்த சுந்தரிகளை!
நெருங்கவும் விடவில்லை அந்த சுந்தரிகளை!

அடுத்த திட்டத்தினை அமல்படுத்தினர்அப்சரஸ்.
அடுத்து அடுத்துப் பாடினர் இனிய பாடல்களை!

அர்ப்பணித்தான் அந்தப் பாடல்களை லக்ஷ்மிக்கு;
கற்பனை பலிக்கவில்லை பெண்கள் எண்ணியபடி.

மாலைகளை அணிவிக்க வந்தனர் பகவானுக்கு;
மாலைகளை அணிவித்தான் அவன் தாமரைக்கு!

“நாட்டியம் செய்யலாமே நீங்கள்!” என்று சொல்லப்
போட்டி போட்டுக் கொண்டு இனிய நடனம் ஆடினர்.

மேனி எழிலை வெளிப்படுத்தினர் ஆடும் போது;
பேணினான் பிரம்மச்சரியத்தை பகவான் நன்கு!

கற்பனையில் உருவான அழகிய பெண்ணை
கண்முன் கொண்டு வந்து நிறுத்தினான் பகவான்

‘படைக்கும் சக்தி படைத்த இவன் மனிதன் அல்ல!’
மடை திறந்தது போல எல்லாம் நினவு வந்தது!

இந்திரன் தந்தான் வாயுவிடம் தாமரை மலரை;
இந்தத் தாமரை மலரே அவன் தந்த மலர் என்று!

விழுந்து வணங்கினர் பகவான் பாதங்களில்;
அழுதும், தொழுதும், கேட்டனர் மன்னிப்பு.

“செய்ய வந்தீர்கள் உங்களுக்கு இட்ட ஆணையை;
எய்தவன் இருக்க அம்பை நான் நோக மாட்டேன்!”

தப்பித்தோம், பிழைத்தோம் என்று ஓடியவர்கள்
அப்போதே சென்றனர் இந்திரனின் சபைக்கு.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#29a. The Apsaras

Days rolled by and the penance of Srinivaasan became more and more intense. The news that a handsome man was doing intense tapas near Padma Sarovar reached far and wide.

Any intense tapas done on earth caused fear and concern in Indra’s mind – since that person might replace him and become the new Indra. He sent celestial maiden to disturb and disrupt the penance of that young man.

celestial maidens transformed themselves to resemble the maidens of the earth. They offered to help Srinivaasan in performing his pooja and penance. Srinivaasan did not object to their offering their help. At the same time he made sure that their aim did not succeed.

He never went close to any of those maidens nor entertained their coming very close to him. So the next part of their scheme unfolded. Now they sang sweet song to attract Srinivaasan. He offered all those songs to the divine lotus and to Lakshmi Devi.

They made lovely garlands and wanted to put them round Srinivaasan’s neck but he intercepted and offered the garlands to the divine lotus flower to please Lakshmi Devi.

Now Srinivaasan himself suggested , “You may dance if you wish to!” Those maidens were expert dancers. They danced their best and also managed to reveal their beauty through their movements. But Srinivaasan was not infatuated with them since he offered their dances to please Lakshmi Devi.

Now Srinivaasan performed a miracle. He imagined a beautiful maiden and bought her to life. The celestial maidens were shocked to find that this young man was capable of creating a living person just by his sankalpam.

They realized that he was not any ordinary man but God himself. Then they remembered that Indra had given the divine lotus with one thousand petals to Vaayu – to be given to someone on the earth.
