6#14b. The yagna of King Nimi

King Nimi did not want to postpone the yagna by five hundred years. He performed the yagna with the help of Goutama. Everything was going on well. The brahmins were happy with the numerous gifts they had received.

Sage Vasishtaa came there after five hundred years, after completing the yagna performed by Indra. He was angry that King Nimi had performed the yagna in his absence. He sent for King Nimi – who was in deep sleep at that time.

Sage got annoyed since Nimi would not wake up from his sleep. Vasihsta cursed king Nimi,”You ignored me and performed the yagna in my absence. May you lose your visible body now!”

The guards got anxious and ran back to tell the king about the curse. King Nimi got up and rushed to honor his kulaguru Vasishtaa.

He put forward his side of the arguement,”I requested yo to perform my yagna. I tried to stop you from going away but you would not listen.You went off on your own free will and now you are cursing me. If I will lose my physical body so will you too."

King Nimi gave a counter curse to Sage Vasishtaa. Both their curses took effect and both the king Nimi and sage Vasishta lost their physical bodies.

But how can anyone live without a physical body? Vasishtaa rushed to Brahma to seek his guidance and intervention,

5c. வெண் சங்கு.

“தீவினை அகலும் வழியை எனக்குத்
தேவரீர் கூறி அருளிட வேண்டும்!”

“காளிந்தி நதியை அடைவாய் நீ!
களிப்புடன் எடுப்பாய் சங்கு வடிவம்.

தவம் செய்து காத்திருப்பாய் அங்கே
தக்கன் வந்து உன்னை எடுக்கும் வரை!

குழந்தையாக மாறி மண்ணுலகில்
வளர்ந்து வருவாய் தக்கனிடம்;

அகவை ஐந்து நிரம்பியவுடன்
தகவுடைய தவம் செய்வாய்.

வதுவை புரிந்து உன்னை மீண்டும்
புது மனைவி ஆக்கிக் கொள்வேன்!”

உடன்பட்டாள் இதற்கு உமையன்னை.
அடைந்தாள் காளிந்தியை உடனே!

வெண் சங்கின் வடிவம் எடுத்தாள்.
வெண் தாமரை மீது அமர்ந்தாள்.

பவம் ஒழிக்க வல்ல எம்பிரானை
சிவனை எண்ணித் தவம் செய்தாள்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#5c. The white conch.

“Please tell me how to get rid of the evil effects” Uma prayed to Siva.

“Go to the river Kalindi. Take the form of a lovely conch. Wait there doing penance until Dakshan finds you and picks you up.

Then you will become a human baby and Dakshan will take care of you. When you become five years old, start doing penance on me. I will marry you again and make you my new wife.”

Uma agreed to this. She then reached the river Kalindi. She changed herself to a small, white, beautiful conch. She placed herself on a white lotus and started doing penance on Siva.

23c. சமரசம்

“அடிபட்டு மயங்கி விட்டான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!”
துடித்து விட்டாள் பத்மாவதி செய்தி கேட்டு.

கதறி அழுதபடி ஓடி வந்தாள் அவனிடம்,
பதறிய அவன் கேட்டான், “ஏன் வந்தாய்?”

“சமரம் பேச வந்தார் தேவியார் – தாங்கள்
சமரில் அடிபட்டது கேட்டு துடித்து விட்டார்.”

அகத்தியர் இடைமறித்துக் கூறினார் – ஆனால்
“அதற்கு இடமே இல்லை!” என்றான் அவன்.

“இருவரையும் வரவழையுங்கள் என்னிடம்;
இருவருக்கும் செய்கிறேன் நான் சமரஸம்”

அகத்தியர் அழைத்து வந்தார் இருவரையும்
அகத்தீ கண்களில் வந்தது பத்மாவதிக்கு!

“அழிவதென முடிவுசெய்து விட்டீர்களா?
பழி பாவத்துகும் அஞ்சுவது இல்லையா?”

“இளவரசுப் பட்டம் காட்டினார் அண்ணா!
இது நினைவு இல்லையா பெண்ணே ?”

“அரசனாக்கினார் என்னை ஸ்ரீநிவாசனே!
தர வேண்டாமா நாம் அதற்கு மதிப்பு ?”

“சமரஸத்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்வார் இவர்;
சம்மதமா இருவருக்கும் கூறுங்கள்!” என

“தந்தைக்குப் பின் அவர் இடத்தில் நாங்கள்
எந்தையாகக் கருதுவது இவரைத் தானே!”

“நாட்டை சம பாகங்கள் ஆக்குவோம்
நாட்டை ஆள வேண்டும் நட்புடன்!’

இருவரும் ஏற்றனர் இந்த முடிவினை;
இரண்டாக்கப் பட்டது அந்த ராஜ்ஜியம்.

தொண்டை நாடு தொண்டைமானுக்கு!
சோழ நாடு கிடைத்தது வசுதானனுக்கு!

நிலைமையைச் சீர் செய்து திரும்பினர்
நிம்மதியாக அகத்தியருடன் அவர்கள்.

23c. The compromise

“Sreenivaasan had fainted on his chariot in the battle field.” This news was enough to shock Padmaavati. She ran to his chariot. He came round and asked her, “Why are you here?”

Sage Agasthya intervened and told Srinivaasan, “Padmaaavati came to make the two warring persons come to a compromise.” Srinivaasan told them, “There is no chance for compromise now. They both want a war.”

Padmaavati told him,”Bring those two warring people to me. I will make them come to a compromise.” Sage Agasthya brought them to her.

Padmaavati was so angry with them that her eyes spat fire!”Have you decided to destroy each other?’ she demanded. Thondaimaan said, “Do you remember that my brother had crowned me as the prince when he was alive” Vasudaanan told her, “Srinivaasan himself crowned me as the king”

Pamaavati told them, “My husband will offer a solution to this if you will abide by his wishes”
Srinivaasan said, “We can divide the country into two halves. Each of you can rule a half without enmity.”

Both the persons agreed to this . The country was divided into two. Thondimaan got the Thondai Nadu and Vasudaana got the Chozha Nadu.

Having successfully averted a war and the blood shed Srinivaasan, Padmaavati and sage Aagasthya returned to the aashram

6#14c. மித்திர வருணன்

பிரம்ம தேவனை அணுகினார் வசிஷ்டர்.
“பிறப்பு எடுக்க வேண்டும் மீண்டும் நான்!

வரம் தாருங்கள் தந்தையே நான் என்றும்
மறக்கலாகாது என் சாஸ்திர ஞானத்தை!”

இரக்கப் பட்டான் பிரம்மன் வசிஷ்டரிடம்;
வரம் தந்தான் வசிஷ்டர் விரும்பிக் கேட்டபடி.

“கலந்திருப்பாய் மித்திர வருணனின் தேஜசில்;
அவதரிப்பாய் அயோநிஜனாக மறுபடியும்!

உடல் பெறுவாய் முன் போலவே மீண்டும்;
புகழ் பெறுவாய் சகல சாஸ்திர பண்டிதனாக.”

கலந்தார் வசிஷ்டர் மித்திர வருணனின் தேஜசில்;
வந்தாள் ஊர்வசி தோழியருடன் ஆசிரமத்துக்கு.

அணுகினான் மித்திர வருணன் காமத்துடன்,
இணங்கினாள் ஊர்வசி முனிவரின் காமத்துக்கு.

வெளிப்பட்ட தேஜஸ் விழுந்தது ஒரு கும்பத்தில்;
வெளிவந்தனர் அகத்தியர், வசிஷ்டர் அதிலிருந்து.

வனம் சென்று விட்டார் குறுமுனி அகத்தியர்;
ஞானம் மறையவில்லை வசிஷ்டரிடமிருந்து.

குலகுருவாக்கிக் கொண்டான் இக்ஷ்வாகு மன்னன்
நிலவுலகில் பரவியது மித்திரவருணி என்ற பெயர்.

6#14c. Mithra Varunan

The body-less Vasishtaa approached Brahma and made a request,” I should be born again in the world. Please grant me the boon that I will remember all the saastraas I have learned and not forget any of them.”

Brahma was moved with pity on seeing the plight of his son Vasishta. He blessed his son and said,”You be in the tejas of Mitra Varunan. You will take birth as an a-yoni-jan without being conceived in a woman’s womb.

You will regain your physical body. You will remember all that you have learned and mastered. You will become very famous as a pundit well versed in all saastraa.”

Vasishtaa mixed with the tejas of Mithra Varunan and waited. One day Oorvasi visited the ashram with her celestial friends. Mithra Varunan approached her with surging lust. She too welcomed the advances made by Mithra Varunan.

His tejas emerged and fell inside a kumbham placed nearby. Two sons Agasthya and Vasishta were born out of the kumbham – without the involvement of a garbba vaasam and passing through the birth canal.

Agasthya left to a forest. Vasishtaa was made the kula guru by king Ikshvaaku. His name came to be known as Mithra Varuni.

6. மாசி மகம்.

மாசிமகத் திருநாளில் யமுனையில் நீராட
நேசித்துச் சென்றனர் அந்த நாட்டுமக்கள்.

சென்றான் தக்கனும் நதியில் நீராடுவதற்கு.
சென்றாள் தக்கன் மனைவி வேதவல்லியும்.

தேவர்களுடன் நீராடிவிட்டு மீளும் போது
தேவி உருமாறி இருந்த சங்கைக்கண்டான் .

கண்களைப் பறித்தது தன் அழகினால்,
வெண்டாமரை மீதிருந்த வெண் சங்கு.

மகிழ்ந்து அதைக் கையில் எடுத்தவன்
நெகிழ்ந்தான் அது குழந்தையானதும்!

உமையன்னையே உருமாறி வந்துள்ளதை
உண்மை அறிவால் உணர்ந்து கொண்டான்.

குழந்தையை எடுத்துச் சென்று அளித்து
அழகிய மனைவிக்குக் களிப்பூட்டினான்.

அழகிய குழவியைத் தழுவிய அன்னை
ஒழுகிய முலைப்பாலை உடனே ஊட்டி;

மாளிகைக்கு மகிழ்வுடன் கொண்டு செல்ல
நாளொரு மேனியுடன் வளர்ந்தாள் மகள்.

6#6. Maasi Magam.

Bathing in the river yamuna on the Maasi Magam day was considered auspicious. So the people thronged to bathe in the river. Dakshan and his wife also went to bathe in the river.

While coming out of the water, Dakshan saw the white conch which was Uma Devi indeed. He picked it up since it was so beautiful. Imagine his surprise when it transformed into a beautiful baby girl.

He was overjoyed and realized that it was Uma herself who had come to him as a baby. He gave the child to his wife. She also became very happy.

As she embraced the child, milk started oozing from her. She fed the baby and they took her to the palace. The child grew well under their loving care.

24a. ஆலயம்

தொண்டைமான் காண வந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை
கொண்டு வந்தான் ஏராளமான பரிசுகளை.

” ஒன்றும் குறை இல்லை இந்த ஆசிரமத்தில்;
என்ன செய்வேன் பரிசுகளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு?”

“எண்ணியிருந்தேன் அண்ணன் மருமகன் என
உண்மை ஸ்வரூபத்தை உணர்ந்தேன் இப்போது!”

“அன்னிய இடத்தில் எத்தனை காலம்?
பொன்னும் மணியும் தர வேண்டாம்

தங்குமிடம் அமைத்துத் தரலாமே
எங்களுக்கு அது தனியிடம் ஆகுமே!”

“எங்கே எப்படி அமைக்க வேண்டும்;
தாங்கள் கோடி காட்டினாலே போதும்!”

மாலையில் சென்றனர் மீண்டும் புற்றுக்கு.
“ஆலயம் நிர்மாணிப்பாய் இந்த இடத்தில்!

புற்று உள்ள இடத்தில் வேண்டும் கர்ப்பகிரகம்
சுற்றிலும் எழுப்ப வேண்டும் மதில் சுவர்களை.

வைகுந்த வாசல் வேண்டும் இடையில்
இரண்டாம் பிராகாரத்தில் வேண்டியவை

மடைப் பள்ளியும், கல்யாண மண்டபமும்,
மணக்கும் திரவியசாலை, பள்ளி அறையும்

இருக்க வேண்டும் மூன்றாவது பிராகாரத்தில்
உக்கிராண அறைகள், ஆஸ்தான மண்டபங்கள்.

வேண்டும் அழகிய ஏழு வாயில்கள்;
வேண்டும் அழகிய இரு கோபுரங்கள்;

வேண்டும் கோபுரம் நுழை வாயிலில்;
வேண்டும் கோபுரம் பிராகார வாயிலில்;

வேண்டும் பலி பீடம், துவஜ ஸ்தம்பம்!
தொண்டைமான் நினைவில் கொண்டான்.

24a. The Temple

Thondaimaan visited Srinivaasan . He brought many precious gifts with him. Srinivaasan told him, “I do not lack anything here. What will I do with these rich gifts?’

Thondaimaan told him, “I was under the impression that you are my brother’s son in law. But now I know who you really are!”

“If you build me a temple instead of showering me with such gifts, we will have a place of our own to live in” Srinivaasan told him.

Thondaimaan told him, “Just tell me how you want it to be built and it will be ready very soon.”

In the evening they went to Seshaachalam. Srinivaasan showed him the anthill and gave his specifications for building the temple.

“The temple must be built here. The garbba graha should be above this anthill. It should be surrounded by walls, Vaikuntha vaasal must be in between these two.

In the second praakaara I need the kitchen, the kalyaana mandapam, sayana gruham and a place for storing the incenses.

The third praakaaram should contain the ugraaNa rooms and aasthaana mandapams. The temple must have seven magnificent entrances.

It must have two gopurams. One should be above the entrance to the temple and the other at the entrance of the praakaaras.

In addition we must have the bali peetam and the dhwaja sthambam. Thondaimaan made a note of all these requirements carefully.

6#15a. மன்னன் நிமி

அடைந்தார் வசிஷ்ட முனிவர் வேறு ஒரு உடல்;
அடையவில்லை மன்னன் நிமி வேறு ஒரு உடல்.

சாபம் தகித்தது உடலை வெப்பத்தால் – அவனைக்
காபந்து பண்ண வேண்டும் யாகம் முடியும் வரை.

காப்பாற்றினர் ரிஷிகள் மந்திரங்கள் ஓதி;
காப்பாற்றினர் ரிஷிகள் மலர்களைத் தூவி.

யாகம் முடிந்தது; தோன்றினர் தேவர்கள்.
“யாகப் பயனாக பெறலாம் புது உடலை!

தேவ உடல் வேண்டுமா? மனித உடலா?” என,
“தேவையில்லை எனக்கு நிலையற்ற ஓர் உடல்.

வசிக்க விரும்புகின்றேன் நான் காற்று உருவமாக
வசிக்கும் ஜீவராசிகளின் கண்களில்” என்றான்.

“அருள்வாள் தேவி இவ்வரத்தை உனக்கு;
ஆராதிப்பாய் தேவியின் அருளை வேண்டி!”

தேவியைத் துதித்தான் மன்னன் நிமி அதன் பின்பு.
தோன்றினாள் தேவி ஒளி மயமாக அவன் முன்பு.

“வசிப்பாய் நீ சகல ஜீவராசிகளின் கண்களில்;
வசிக்கும் ஜீவன்கள் கண்ணிமைகளைக் கொட்டி.

சந்ததிகள் இல்லை மன்னன் நிமிக்கு – ஒரு
சந்ததி வேண்டும் அவன் நாட்டை ஆள்வதற்கு.

உற்பத்தி செய்ய வேண்டும் ஒரு புத்திரனை;
உச்சரித்தனர் புத்திர உற்பத்தியின் மந்திரத்தை.

கடைந்தனர் அரணிக் கட்டையை முனிவர்கள்
சடங்குகளை நிமிக்குச் செய்து முடித்த பிறகு.

6#15a. King Nimi

Vasishtaa got a new body with the help of his father Brahma, but King Nimi did not get a nee body! Vasishtaa’s curse was scorching his body into nothingness, but he must be kept alive until the yagna was completed.

The rushis chanted life saving mantraas and showered cool flowers on king Nimi to fight the scorching heat. The Yagna was completed against all these odds.

The Devaas were pleased and appeared in front of Nimi. They told Nimi.”You may get a fresh new body as the fruit of the yagna you have performed. Do you want the body of a Deva or a man?”

King Nimi said, “I do not wish for a body which is temporary and transient. I want to live in the eyes of all living creatures and be as light as air.”

The Devaa told Nimi,”Devi can bestow this boon on you. Seek her blessings!” Nimi prayed to Devi and she appeared in front of Nimi shining brightly.

She blessed Nimi and said,”You will live for ever in the eyes of all the living creatures and they will start blinking their eyes from now on.” Nimi became immortal since he lives in the eyes of every living creature ever since then.

Nimi did not have any child to rule his country after him. The sages wanted to create a son by employing the mantras for getting a son. After cremating king Nimi they churned the block of wood used to produce the sparks of fire, while chanting the appropriate mantraas.

7a. இறைவியின் தவம்.

தக்கனின் மகளாக வளர்ந்த தாட்சாயனி
தக்க பருவம் அடைந்தாள் தவம் செய்ய.

அகவைகள் ஐந்து நிரம்பி விட்டன.
அகத்தை ஒருமுகப் படுத்தினாள் அவள்.

“சிவனை மணந்து கொள்ள விழைகின்றேன்.
அவனை வரித்துச் செய்யவேண்டும் தவம்.

எனக்கு உரிய இடத்தை நிறுவி விட்டு
என்னையும் அனுப்புவீர் தவம் செய்திட”

தக்கனும் வேதவல்லியும்மகிழ்ந்தனர்.
“முக்கண்ணனை இவள் அறிந்தது எப்படி?”

மனைவியின் ஐயத்தைத் தீர்த்தான் தக்கன்.
மானசவாவியில் நடந்ததைக் கூறினான்.

“மேன்மைகள் பெறத் தவம் செய்யும்போது
மேலான இந்த வரத்தையும் கேட்டேன்;

சக்தி நம் மகளாகப் பிறக்க வேண்டும்.
முக்கண்ணன் மருகனாக வரவேண்டும்.

அளித்தான் வரங்களைச் சிவன் உள்ளம்
களிக்கும்படி வேண்டிய வண்ணமே.

சிறு பெண் இவள் என்று எண்ணிப்
பெருமையை உணரத் தவறிவிடாதே!”

தாய் உற்ற மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு அளவே இல்லை.
தாட்சாயனி தவம் செய்து இருந்தாள்.

6#7a. Uma’s penance.

Uma now born as Daakshaayani became five years of age. She decided to start her penance on Siva. She told her parents, “I wish to marry Lord Siva. I have to do penance seeking his grace. Please give me a suitable spot !”

Her parents became very happy to hear this. Vedavalli could not help wondering how this little girl came to know about Siva. Dakshan told her about the happenings at the Maanasarovar when Siva gave him dharshan.

He told his wife, “I wished that Uma should become our daughter and Siva our son in law. Siva blessed me with these boons. Do not think that our little daughter is any ordinary girl. She is Uma reborn as our daughter.”

24b. ரங்கதாஸன்

தோட்டத்தில் இருந்தது ஒரு கிணறு,
“தோண்டியவன் நீயே முற்பிறப்பில்!”

வைகாநஸன் ஒரு முனிவர் சோழநாட்டில்;
வைத்தார் தணியாத ஆசையை மனத்தில்.

வைகுந்தனைக் கிருஷ்ணணாகக் காணக்
கைக்கொண்டார் கடுமையான தவநெறி.

தவம் செய்தார் கனி, கிழங்குகள் உண்டு!
தவம் செய்தார் தழை, சருகுகள் உண்டு!

தவம் செய்தார் உணவே உண்ணாமல்;
தவம் செய்தார் காற்றை சுவாசித்து!

கண் எதிரே தோன்றினான் வைகுந்தன்
“கண்ணனாகக் காட்சி தர வேண்டும்” என,

“ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை ஆராதித்து வந்தால்
இனிதே நிறைவேறும் உம் விருப்பம்!”

கால் நடையாகச் சென்றார் சேஷாசலம்;
கண்டார் வழியில் பக்தன் ரங்கதாஸனை

உடன் நடந்தான் முனிவருடன் அவன்
“கேட்டான் ஏன் சேஷாசலத்துக்கு?”

“கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் செய்தான் லீலைகள்
கிருஷ்ணனைக் காணத் தவம் செய்தேன்.

சேஷாசலம் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை ஆராதித்தால்
பேஷாக நிறைவேறும் என் கோரிக்கை”

முனிவரும் நடப்பது நல்லதாகிற்று
இனிக்கும் கண்ணனைத் தரிசிக்கலாமே!

“அனாதை என்னைப் பணியாளாக எற்பீர்.
அநேக சேவைகள் செய்து உதவுவேன்!”

சேஷாசலத்தைச் அடைத்தனர் இருவரும்
வாசஸ்தலம் ஸ்வாமி பூஷ்கரிணீ அருகே.

24b. Ranga Daasan
Srinvaasan showed a well in the garden to ThoNdaimaan and said, “You are the one who dug this well in your previous birth”

Vaikaanasan was rushi living in the Chozha kingdom. His only desire was to get the dharshan of Sri Krishna. He observed a severe penance.

He did penance eating only fruits and roots. Later on he switched over to the fresh leaves and then dry leaves. Then he stopped eating, breathing only air.

Vishnu appeared to him in person. The rushi requested for a dharshan of Sri Krishna. Vishnu told him, “Go to Seshaachalam and do aaraadhana to Srinivaasan. You will get the dharshan of Krishna”

The sage started walking towards Seshaachalam. On the way he met another devote of Vishnu called Ranga Daasan. He too started walking with the sage.

Ranga Daasan wanted to know the purpose of his visiting Seshaachalam. The sage Vaikaanasan told him, “Vishnu performed many miracles as Krishna. My sincere desire is to get his dharshan. I was told to go to Seshaachalam and pray to Srinivaasan who will fulfill my desire.”

Ranga Daasan thought to himself, ‘It is good that I decided to walk with this sage. I too can have a dharshan of Krishna.’ He requested the sage,”I have no one to call as mine. Please accept me as your servant. I shall serve to the best of my ability”

The sage agreed. They reached Seshaachalam, and stayed near Swami PushkariNi.

6#15b. விதேஹர்கள்

பிள்ளை தோன்றினான் அரணிக் கட்டையிலிருந்து;
பிரகாசமாக இருந்தான் மன்னன் நிமியைப் போல.

மிதி என்று பெயர் சூட்டினர் முனிவர்கள் – மகன்
மிதியை ஆக்கினர் மன்னன் நிமியின் வாரிசாக.

தேஹம் அழிந்துவிட்டது மன்னன் நிமிக்கு – வி
தேஹர் என்ற பெயர் பெற்றது நிமியின் வம்சம்.

மிதிலாபுரி என்ற அழகிய நகரத்தை மன்னன்
மிதி அமைத்தான் கங்கை நதியின் கரையில்.

வம்சம் பெயர் பெற்றது விதேஹர்கள் என்று
வம்சத்து அரசர்கள் ஆயினர் ஞானவான்கள்!”

முனிவரிடம் கேட்டான் மன்னன் ஜனமேஜயன்,
“முனிவரின் சாபத்துக்கு எதிர் சாபம் இடலாமா?

பெருங்கோபம் கொள்ளலாமா யாகம் செய்கையில்
குருவையே சபிக்கலாகுமா மன்னனகிய ஒருவன்?

யயாதியைச் சபித்தான் குரு சுக்கிரன் எனினும்
யயாதி சபிக்கவில்லை குரு சுக்கிரனைச் சினந்து.

கிழத் தன்மையை ஏற்றுக் கொண்டான் யயாதி;
அழகு உள்ளது பொறுமை, சகிப்புத் தன்மையில்!"

"நல்லவன், கெட்டவன் என்பது மட்டும் இன்றி
நல்லவனே ஒரு கெட்டவனாக ஆவதும் உண்டு.

கோப குணம் கொண்டவர் ஹைஹய அரசர்கள்;
லோப குணம் கொண்டு அழித்தனர் அந்தணரை.

பிருகு குலத்தில் பிறந்த அந்தணர் அனைவரையும்
பிரம்மஹத்திக்கும் அஞ்சாமல் அழித்து ஒழித்தனர்.”

6#15b. Videhar.

A son was born from the block of wood. He was as bright and brilliant as King Nimi himself. The sages named him as Mithi and made him King Nimi’s lawful successor.

Since Nimi lost his physical body his vamsam got a new name as Videhar. Al the kings in that vamsam had great wisdom. Mithi established a lovely city Mithilaapuri on the banks of river Ganga.

King Janamejayan asked sage Vyaasaa,”Is it proper to cast counter curses? Is it agreeable to curse one’s own kula guru?

Is it appropriate to become furious while conducting a yagna?
Guru Sukran cursed king Yayaati but Yayaaati did not curse Sukran! There is beauty and grace in patience and tolerance.”

Vyaasaa said, “We have good people and the bad people. In addition there is also one more category of people who were good before they became bad.

Haihayaas were known for their short temper. They became greedy and killed all the brahmins born in the vamsam of Sage Brugu – without fearing the brahma haththi doaham."

7b. மாறுவேடம்.

வளர்ந்தாள் ஐந்து வயதுச் சிறுமி,
வயது பன்னிரண்டு ஆகிவிட்டது;

ஈசன் மனம் இளகியது நேசத்தால்
பூசை செய்யும் கன்னிக்கு அருளிட!

திருக்கயிலை நீங்கினார்; தருப்பைபுல்
திருக்கையில்; முப்புரி திருமேனியில்.

முக்கண்ணன் தரித்தான் பார்ப்பன வேடம்,
தக்கன் மாநகரை சென்று அடைந்தார்.

தவச் சாலையை அணுகினார் பிரம்மச்சாரி.
தவம் புரியும் தலைவிக்குத் தெரிவிக்க,

பார்ப்பன இளைஞனை வரவேற்று அவனை
ஈர்த்தது அங்கு எது என்று கேட்டாள்.

“அழகிற் சிறந்த பெண்ணே! யான்
விழைவது ஒன்று உண்டு அதைக் கேள்!

நாடிவந்தேன் பருவ மங்கை உன்னை!
தேடி வந்தேன் திருமணம் புரிந்திட!

மறுத்தோ அன்றித் தடுத்தோ என்னை
வெறுத்தோ நீ ஒதுக்கி விடாதே!” என

கைகளால் காதுகளை மூடிக் கொண்டு
மெய் சோர்ந்து பெருமூச்செறிந்தாள்.

“சிவனை மணக்கவே பல ஆண்டுகள்
தவம் செய்து வருகிறேன் அய்யா!

எவரிடமும் லயிக்காது என் மனம்
என் தவப்பயனை நான் அடைவேன்!”

“இத்தன்மையன் எனக் கூற ஒண்ணாத
பித்தனை எண்ணி இத்தனை தவமா?

தவத்துக்கு மயங்கி வதுவையாடிட
சிவத்துக்கு எங்கே நேரமும் காலமும்?”

“சிவனே வந்து மணந்தால் அன்றி என்
தவக் கோலத்தைத் துறவேன் நான்.

சிவன் வராவிட்டால் இன்னுயிரை
அவன் நினைப்பிலேயே துறப்பேன்!”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
