DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 5

5#35b. சக்தி ஆராதனை (2)

காட்சி தந்தாள் தேவி திருவுளம் கனிந்து,
“கேட்கும் வரம் தருவேன் கேளுங்கள்!” எனக்

“கைப்பற்றினர் என் நாட்டை, என் பதவியை.
கைப்பட வேண்டும் என் நாடும், பதவியும்!”

சுரதன் கேட்டான் தேவியிடம் – இந்த
வரத்தைத் தன் உள்ளக் கிடக்கையாக!

“செல்வாய் உன் நாட்டுக்கு நீ மீண்டும்
வெல்வாய் நீ உன் பதவியை மீண்டும்!

ஆள்வாய் நெடும்காலம் நல்லாட்சியாக;
வாழ்வாய் ராஜபோகங்களுடன் நெடுநாள்.

சேர்வாய் சூரியனுடன் உன் கால முடிவில்;
தோன்றுவாய் பூவுலகில் ஒரு மனுவாக”

போற்றினான் சுரதன் தேவியின் கருணையை;
போற்றினான் வணிகனும்; கூறினான் இவ்வாறு.

“நான் வேண்டுவது இவைகள் தான் தேவி.
நான் வேண்டுவது ஞானம், வைராக்கியம்.

துக்கம் தருகிறது உலகில் சம்சார பந்தம்;
நித்திய சுகம் என்ற பேச்சுக்கே இடமில்லை.

விடுவிப்பாய் சம்சார பந்தங்களில் இருந்து;
விடுவிப்பாய் பாசத் தளையிலிருந்து என்னை!”

சடுதியில் அடைந்தான் ஞான, வைராக்கியம்;
விடுபட்டான் கல்பித உலக வாழ்விலிருந்து!

மறைந்தருளினாள் தேவி வரங்கள் தந்த பின்பு;
நிறைவுடன் திரும்பினர் இருவரும் குரு முன்பு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

5#35b. Sakthi aaraadhana (2)

Devi appeared in front of them and said,” I shall grant any boon you wish for!” King Suratha prostrated to Devi and said, “I lost my kingdom and my rulership. Please help me to get them back.”

Devi blessed him saying, “You will go back to your country and rule it as before. You will rule well and for a very long time. You will go the Soorya lokam after your time on earth is over. You will be born as Manu on the earth.”

Suratha became very happy to hear this and paid obeisance to Devi. Now it was the turn of the merchant Samaadhi. “Devi I wish to get gnaanam and vairaagyam by your grace. I am fed up with the life of a householder.

Human life is full of sorrows with a little happiness sprinkled in between sorrows. Liberate me from all the worldly bondages by giving me gnaanam (TRUE KNOWLEDGE) and viraagyam ( DETACHMENT)”

Devi blessed him granting him gnanam and vairaagyam and then vanished from there. Suratha and Samaadhi went back to Sage Sumedas once again.

KANDA PURAANAM - PORPURI KAANDAM

13b. முருகன் திறமை

சூரபத்மன் வந்த செய்தி கேட்டுப்
போருக்குப் புறப்பட்டான் முருகன்.

தேரோட்டி கொணர்ந்தான் அங்கு
தேர் மனோவேகத்தைத் திருமுன்பு.

மழு, குலிசம், சூலம், வேற்படை;
எழு, வில், கணை, பரிசை,

உருளை , தடி , வாள் ஏந்தித்
திருமுருகன் தேரில் ஏறினான்.

நூராயிரத்து எண்மர், மற்றவர்,
ஈராயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதர்கள்!

படை நடந்தது, களம் அடைந்தது,
படைகள் கலந்தன ஒரு போரில்.

பூதர்கள் தோல்வி அடைந்தனர்,
பூதர்கள் புறமுதுகிட்டு ஓடினர்.

நூறாயிரத்து எண்மரும் நீங்கவே
வீரவாகுவும் தளர்ச்சி அடைந்தார்.

ஆறுமுகனைச் சூழ்ந்த அவுணர்கள்
ஆரவாரத்துடன் போரிடலாயினர்.

வில்லை வளைத்தான் முருகன்;
நாணொலி எழுப்பினான் முருகன்;

எல்லை இல்லாத தொல்லையை
ஏற்படுத்தினான் வேல்முருகன்!

கலங்கின உயிர்கள், அஞ்சினர் அவுணர்,
பிளந்தன தேர்கள், புரண்டன பரிகள்,

வீழ்ந்தன கரிகள் , நடுங்கினர் தேவர்,
அழித்துவிட்டான் அவுணர் படையை.

அழித்தான் வேற்றுலகப் படையையும்!
அடைத்தான் வேற்றுலக வாயிலையும்!

திருக்கண்களில் ஊழித் தீ கனலூற
திரும்பிய திசைகள் எங்கும் இருந்த

பிண மலைகள் வெந்து சாம்பலாயின.
நிணமும் காய்ந்து சுவறி விட்டது.

முன்போல் விளங்கின மூவுலகும்
நான்முகன், தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

4 # 13. b. Murugan’s valor.

On hearing the arrival of Soorapadman, Murugan got ready for the war. Vayu the charioteer, brought the chariot Manovegam and Murugan got into it.

He was armed with all kinds of weapons including mazhu (axe), kulisam ( vajraayutham), soolam (trident), vel ( spear), ezhu (a battle weapon), vil (bow), kanai (arrow), parisai (shield), urulai (discus), thadi (dandam) and the sword.

The hundred thousand and eight warriors and two thousand units of demons marched along with Murugan’s chariot.

The demons faced a setback and took to their heels. Veeravabaahu also became very tired. He entire army of the asuras surrounded Murugan and fought with him vigorously.

Murugan twanged his bow and all living things trembled in fear. He destroyed the entire army of the asura in no time. He destroyed the army which had come from the other worlds. He sealed the door connecting the different worlds.

The dead bodies filled the entire earth. Murugan stared with his fiery eyes and they got burned to ashes. The blood got dried up and the whole world became clean and healthy to live in. Brahman and the other Deva were very pleased with Murugan’s valor.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

6a. பசுவின் மாயம்

கரவீர புரத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட இம்மூவரும்
விரைவாகச் சென்றடைந்தனர் சந்திரகிரியை.

கன்றையும், பசுவையும் விற்க வந்ததாக
நின்ற காவலரிடம் கூறினாள் இடைச்சி.

கொழுகொழு பசுவும், மொழுமொழு கன்றும்,
அழகால் கவர்ந்தன காவலரின் உள்ளங்களை!

அறிவித்தனர் அதை அரசனிடம் சென்று;
தருவித்தான் அவன் அவர்களைத் அருகே.

பளபளப்போடும், சுழிகளோடும் கூடிய
பசுவும், கன்றும் கவர்ந்தன அரசனை.

அரசிக்கும் பிடித்துவிட்டது அவற்றை,
பராமரித்தாள் தன் கவனத்தில் வைத்து.

இடையன் செல்வான் தினமும் மலைக்கு,
விடியற் காலையில் பசுக்களை மேய்க்க.

அரண்மனை திரும்புவான் அன்றாடமும்.
ஆவினத்துடன், ஆதவன் மறையும் முன்.

மலைக்குச் சென்றபின் பசுவும், கன்றும்,
மலைச் சரிவில் ஒதுங்கிவிடும் தனியாக.

இடையனின் தலை மறைந்த உடனே
எடுக்கும் ஓட்டம் சேஷாச்சலத்துக்கு.

புற்றின் மேல் நின்று பசு பால் பொழிய
புற்றினுள்ளே பசியாறுவான் நாரணன்.

திரும்பக் கலந்துவிடும் பிற மாடுகளுடன்!
அறியவில்லை இடையன் இம் மாயத்தை!

பசுவைக் கறந்தாள் ராணியே சுயமாக;
பசு பால்தரவில்லை ராணிக்குச் சரியாக.

அதிக உணவு அளித்தாள் பசுவுக்கு எனினும்
அதிகப் பால் கரக்கவில்லை அந்த மாயப் பசு!

VENKATESA PURAANAM

6a. The cow’s trick!

Brahma, Siva and Lakshmi Devi disguised as a cow, its calf and their seller respectively, reached Chandragiri soon. They went straight to the king’s palace.

The palace guards were duly impressed by the cow and its calf and reported to their king that a woman wanted to sell an excellent cow and its calf to the king.

The king called them to come come inside the palace. He like the appearance of the fine cow and its calf. The queen also liked them immensely so they were bought immediately. The queen personally took care of the new cow and its calf.

The cowherd in charge of the cattle drove them to the hill side every morning and drove them back to the palace before sun set. The new cow and calf joined with the rest of the cattle and went for grazing.

But soon they separated themselves from the rest of the cattle. They turned their back and raced to Seshaachalam as soon the cowherd and the cattle were out of their view.

The cow stood over the ant hills and let its milk flow down freely. Naaraayanan who was inside the anthill drank the rich milk to his fill. Later the cow and the calf mingled with the rest of the cattle -without the knowledge of the cowherd.

The queen personally milked the cow but it hardly gave any milk. She thought the feed was not sufficient and gave the cow more feed. But in spite of the rich and sufficient feed the cow continued to give far less milk than it should have given.

5#35c. சக்தி ஆராதனை (3)

விடை பெற்றுச் செல்ல விரும்பினர் இருவரும்
தடை பட்ட வாழ்வை மீண்டும் தொடருவதற்கு.

வந்தனர் ஆசிரமம் மந்திரிகள், பிரதானிகள்;
தந்தனர் சுரதனுக்கு ஒரு நல்ல செய்தியினை.

“மாண்டு மடிந்து விட்டனர் உங்கள் வைரிகள்;
ஆண்டு ரக்ஷிக்க மீண்டும் வாரும் நாட்டுக்கு!”

அழைத்தனர் சுரதனை நடாளுவதற்கு வருமாறு!
தழைத்தது தேவியின் கருணை பரிபூரணமாக என

விடை பெற்றுச் சென்றான் சுமேதஸ் முனிவரிடம்;
கடைசி வரை மறக்க வில்லை தேவி கருணையை;

தங்கினான் வணிகன் முனிவர் ஆசிரமத்தில்;
ஓங்கி வளர்ந்தது அவன் ஞான வைராக்கியம்.

தீர்த்த யாத்திரை செய்த விட்டு வந்தான் – பின்
தீர்ந்த வியாமோஹத்தால் ஜீவன் முக்தனானான்.

ஜனமேஜயனே கூறினேன் இந்த இரு சரிதங்களை;
உனக்குத் தெளிவாக்க தேவியின் கருணையினை.

பொருட் செல்வம் விழைந்தான் மன்னன் சுரதன்;
பொருட்செல்வம் அளித்தாள் தேவி அவனுக்கு!

அருட்செல்வம் விழைந்தான் வணிகன் சமாதி;
அருட்செல்வம் அளித்தாள் தேவி அவனுக்கு.

தேவி தருவாள் நாம் கோரும் வரங்களை!
தேவி தருவாள் நமக்கு இகபர சுகங்களை!”

தேவி பாகவதம் ஐந்தாம் ஸ்கந்தம் முற்றுப் பெற்றது.

5#35c. Shakti aaraadhana (3)

Suratha and Samaadhi went back to the ashram of Sage Sumedas. His ministers and courtiers visited the ashram one day. They told king Suratha, “Oh king! All your enemies have got killed. We want you to return to our kingdom and rule us as before!”

The king Suratha was surprised that Devi’s grace had made possible everything he had wished for. He took leave of the sage and went back to his kingdom. Samaadhi stayed back at the ashram. His gnaanam and Vairaagyam grew stronger as the days rolled by. He went on a theerta yaatra and when he returned he had became a jeevan muktan.

King Janamejaya! I told you these stories to show how Devi can give us anything we seek. King Suratha wanted to get back his kingdom and the life of a king and Devi gave them to him those.

Merchant Samaadhi wished for gnaanam and vairaagyam and she gave him those. Devi will give what we seek – either the pleasures of this world or those of the next world.”

13c. முருகனும், சூரனும்

முருகனின் திருவிளையாடல்களைக் கண்டும்
சிறுவனுடன் போர் விழைந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

“சிவன் தந்த மேன்மை பெற்றவன் நான்!
நமன் கை வசப்படவே மாட்டேன் நான்!

தேவர்களும் அஞ்சுவர் போர் புரிவதற்கு!
தோற்றவர் என் எதிரே என்றுமே நில்லார்.”

படைகள் கலந்தன இரு பெரும் கடலென!
தொடங்கியது போர் அப் படைகளிடையே.

திடமான சூரன் வில் இரு துண்டானது
விடமுண்ட நாதன் தந்த வாள்வீச்சால்.

மார்பில் அடிபட்டு விழுந்தான் வீரவாகு!
சூரபத்மன் அவனை விண்ணில் எறிந்தான்.

முருகன் அறுத்தான் சூரனின் கொடியை.
முருகன் தேரில் இல்லை ஒரு கொடி.

கொடியானான் அக்கினி முருகன் தேரில்.
கூவினான் அண்டம் ஒலிக்கச் சேவலாகி.

விண்ணிற் செலுத்தினான் சூரன் தன் தேரை.
விண்ணிற் செலுத்தினான் முருகன் தேரை.

சூரனின் தேரை அழித்தான் முருகன்;
சூரன் ஏறினான் தன் இந்திரஞாலத்தில்.

4 # 13. c. Murugan and the Sooran.​

Veerabaahu faced Soorapadman. “I have been blessed by Siva himself. No one could kill me. Devas fear to fight with me. Those who got defeated will not stand in my presence.” Soorapadman boasted to Veerabaahu.

The war began. Soorapadman’s bow was broken by Veerabaahu using his sword given by Siva. Soorapadman hit Veerabaahu on his chest and kicked him into the sky.

Murugan cut off the flag from Sooran’s chariot. There was no flag on Murugan’s chariot. Agni became a cock, sat on the Chariot of murugan and crowed loudly.

Soorapadman rose in the sky with his chariot. Murugan also rose in the sky with his chariot. Murugan destroyed Sooran’s chariot. Immediately Sooran climbed into his chariot Indragnaalam

6b. பரந்தாமன்

அரசி சந்தேகித்தாள் அப்பாவி இடையனை,
‘கறந்து குடிக்கின்றனோ வருகின்ற வழியில்?’

“மடி பெரிதாக இருக்கிறது பசுவுக்கு – ஆனால்
அடி தட்டுகிறது கறக்கும் பால் விந்தையாக!

கூறு உண்மையை என்ன நடக்கிறது?” அதட்ட ,
“அறியேன் நான் ஒரு பாவமும் ” என அழுதான்.

“ஜாக்கிரதை நாளைக்குக் தரவேண்டும் பால்!”
எச்சரித்தாள் இடையனைச் சந்திரகிரி அரசி.

இத்தனை ஆண்டுகள் பெறாத அவப் பெயரை
பெற்றுத் தந்துவிட்டன இந்தப் பசுவும் கன்றும்.

நம்பவில்லை அந்தப் பசுவை இடையன் சற்றும்,
‘ஓம்புகிறதோ பழைய எஜமானுக்குப் பால் தந்து?’

கண் இமைக்காமல் கண்காணித்தான் மறுநாள்;
நண்பகலில் பிரிந்து ஓடின அப் பசுவும் கன்றும்.

ஓடின சேஷாசலத்தின் மலைச் சரிவுகளில்,
ஓடினான் துரத்திய இடையன் கோடரியுடன்!

புற்றை அடைந்ததும் நின்று விட்டன அங்கு.
புற்றின் உள்ளே சுரந்தது மொத்தப் பாலையும்!

கோபம் கொண்டான் இடையன் – ‘அரசியின்
நோகும் சொற்களை நான் கேட்டது இதனால்’.

பாய்ந்தான் பசு மீது கோடரியை ஓங்கியபடி;
பாய்ந்து வெளிவந்தார் புற்றிலிருந்த நாரணன்.

விழுந்தது வெட்டு நாரணன் நெற்றியில்
பிளந்தது நெற்றி! பீறிட்டது ரத்தம்!

நனைந்தன பசுவும், கன்றும் ரத்தத்தில்!
நினைவிழந்தான் இடையன் அச்சத்தில்!

#6b. The injury

The queen doubted the cowherd. ‘May be he drinks the cow’s milk on the way to the palace?’ She threatened him, “The udder looks large but the milk is scanty. What is happening ? Tell me the truth!”

The cowherd got scared and cried piteously, “I have not done anything stealthy or wrong. Please believe me”. “The cow better give milk tomorrow or you will be in trouble” the queen warned the cowherd.

‘I have never been insulted in all my life but the new cow and the calf have made the queen doubt my loyalty. May be the cow continues to give its milk to its previous owner! I shall watch it tomorrow and find out what is really happening!’ The cowherd thought to himself.

The next day he did not take his eyes off the new cow and the calf. At noon those two ran away from the rest of the cattle. The cowherd ran after them. They ran on the hilly slopes of the mountain Seshaachalam. The cowherd followed them with his axe kept ready.

They stopped near the anthill and cow let its entire stock of milk flow into the anthill. The cowherd could not contain his anger any longer. He pounced on the cow with his axe lifted up.

Naaraayan came out to stop the violent attack on the cow. The axe hit his forehead splitting it and making the blood flow out like a fountain. The cow and the calf were drenched in the blood and cowherd fell unconscious by these unexpected events.

ஆறாவது ஸ்கந்தம்




6#1a. முனிவர்களின் விண்ணப்பம்

முனிவர்கள் வணங்கினர் சூத மகரிஷியை,
“இனிக்கின்றன தேவி லீலைகள் அமுதமாக!

செவிமடுக்க வேண்டும் தேவி லீலைகளை;
செவிகள் அமிழ்தில் நனைந்து குளிரும்படி.

விஸ்வகர்மாவின் மகன் பலவான் அன்றோ?
விருத்திரன் கோரமாகக் கொல்லப்பட்டான்.

பிரம்ம குலத்தில் தோன்றியவன் விருத்திரன்;
பிரம்மஹத்தி அவனை இந்திரன் செய்தது ஏன்?

சத்துவ குணசாலிகள் தேவர்கள் என்கின்றனர்;
சத்துவ குணம் ஆகுமா பிரம்மஹத்தி செய்வது?

உதவினார் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவும் இப் பாதகத்துக்கு!
உதவினாள் மஹா தேவியும் இப் பாதகத்துக்கு!

குழம்புகின்றோம் இதை எண்ணி நாங்கள்;
குழப்பத்தைத் தீர்த்துத் தெளிவு படுத்துங்கள்!”

“கூறுவேன் விருத்திரனின் விருத்தாந்தத்தை;
கூறினார் வியாசரும் ஜனமேஜயனுக்கு இதை.”

சூத முனிவர் கூறத் தொடங்கினார் கதையை,
சௌனகாதியர் கேட்டனர் கருத்தொருமித்து.

6#1a. The request of the rushis

The rushis prostrated to Sootha maha rushi. They told him,”The leelaas of Devi related by you are sweeter than nectar. We want to hear more and more of them from you.

Viruthraasuran the son of Viswakarma was a valorous man. How did he murdered so horribly by Indra? Viruthraasuran belonged to Brahma kulam. Kiling him would incur the Brahma hatthi dosham. Why did Indra kill him thus?

Deva are supposed to excel in satva GuNa but is it satva GuNa to kill a brahmin? Vishnu and Devi also helped Indra in this killing! The more we think about this, the more we get confused. Please clarify our doubts sir!”

Sootha maha rushi replied to them,”I shall explain the happenings to your satisfaction. Vyaasaa had explain this to king Janamejayan in the distant past."

13d. ஆழிப்படை

அண்டங்கள் இடையே செல்லும் வாயிலை
அடைத்திருந்தான் முருகன் கணைகளால்.

மூடி இருந்த கதவுகளைத் திறக்கவும்
தடைபட்டு நின்ற அவுணர்படை குவிந்தது.

அவுண மள்ளரைச் சினந்த முருகனின்
அருள்விழிகள் தீயினைப் பொழியலாயின.

மழு, சூலம், உருளைப்படை உதவியால்
முழுவதும் அழித்துவிட்டான் அவுணரை.

ஆழிப் படையை வழிபாடு செய்தபின்
ஆறுமுகன் மேல் விடுத்தான் சூரன்.

அனைவரும் அஞ்சும்படி வந்த ஆழி
அன்புடன் சேர்ந்தது முருகன் கையை.

கணக்கற்ற உருவங்கள் எடுத்துக்
கணை மழை பொழிந்தான் சூரன்.

அறிவுக் கணையைச் செலுத்தி முருகன்
அறிவை மயக்கிய மாயையைப் போக்க,

தனித்துத் தளர்வுடன் நின்ற சூரனை
இனித்த மனத்துடன் கண்டனர் தேவர்.

தேருடன் மறைந்து போனான் சூரன்.
வேறு உலகம் சென்று அறைகூவினான்.

முருகனும் சென்றான் அவன் பின்னே!
முருகனுடன் போர் செய்து மறைந்தான்.

வேறு வேறு உலகங்களுக்குச் செல்லும்
சூரனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தான் முருகன்.

அண்டங்கள் எங்கும் அலைந்து திரிந்தபின்
அடைந்தான் சூரபத்மன் வீரமகேந்திரபுரி.

KANDA PURAANAM - PORPURI KAANDAM

4 # 13. d. The discus of Sooran.

Murugan had sealed the doors connecting the different worlds with his arrows. Soorpadman opened the door again with his arrows. The asura army started pouring in from every world!

The merciful eyes of Murugan became red with anger when he saw the asura army. With the help of his axe, trident and discus he destroyed the whole army of asura.

Soorapadman prayed to his discus and threw it on Murugan. It sped fast terrorizing the onlookers but quietly surrendered to Murugan.

Soorapadman assumed many forms and started shooting arrows. Murugan shot his arrow of knowledge and the MAyA was removed.

Now Soorapadman stood tired, worn out and all alone. He became invisible and flew away with his chariot to another universe. He challenged Murugan from there and Murugan followed him.

Again Soorapadman vanished with his chariot and went to another world.
Murugan went chasing him. This went on or a long time.

Finally after running from Universe to universe in vain, Sooapadman returned to his capital city Veeramahendrapuri.

7a. சோழராஜன்

ரத்தக் கறையுடன் ஓடிவந்தன பசுவும், கன்றும்!
சித்தம் குழம்பியது அரண்மனைக் காவலருக்கு!

‘துஷ்ட மிருகங்கள் சேதம் விளைவித்தனவா?
கஷ்ட காலம் காணவில்லை இடையனையும்!

யார் யாருக்கு என்னென்ன நிகழ்ந்தனவோ?
யாருக்குத் தெரியும்?’ அரசனிடம் ஓடினர்.

வாசலுக்கு விரைந்தான் அரசன் – ஆனால்
வழக்கத்துக்கு மாறாகக் குழம்பியது மனம்.

வாலைச் சுழற்றிய பசு ஓடியது தெருவில்.
வரச் சொல்லுகிறது எனத் தெரிந்து விட்டது.

“செல்லுங்கள் பசுவைத் தொடர்ந்து நீங்கள்!
சொல்லுங்கள் அங்கு கண்டதை இங்குவந்து!”

ஆயுதங்களுடன் விரைந்தனர் காவலர்கள்;
அடைந்தனர் புற்று இருக்கும் இடத்தினை.

இடையன் மூர்ச்சித்து விழுந்து கிடந்தான்
கிடந்தது அவன் அருகே ரத்தக் கோடாரி!

கசிந்தது ரத்தம் புற்றின் துவாரத்தில்!
வசித்த நாகம் வெட்டுண்டு விட்டதோ?

விரைந்து சென்று கூறினார் அரசனிடம்
விரைந்து வந்தான் அரசன் பல்லக்கில்

‘நிகழ்ந்துள்ளது அசாதாரண சம்பவம் ஒன்று !
நிகழ்ந்து விட்டதோ தெய்வக் குற்றம் இன்று?’

தெய்வத்தை எண்ணி தியனித்தான் மன்னன்;
“தெளிவாக்குவாய் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றை நீ எனக்கு!

பிழை செய்யப் பட்டிருந்தால் மனமுவந்து
பிராயச் சித்தம் செய்கின்றேன் பாவத்துக்கு!”

7a. Chozha Raajan

The cow and the calf ran to the palace gate. The guards got frightened looking at them covered with blood. ‘Was it caused by the wild animals? The cowherd is missing too! What calamity has befallen and to whom? God only knows!’ they ran and reported it to the king.

The king rushed to the entrance of the palace. His mind felt agitated for no known reasons. The cow ran in the street hinting that the soldiers should follow it.

The king ordered them,”Closely follow the cow and tell me what you find there”. The soldier ran behind the cow with their weapons ready – for they knew not what danger awaited them there.

They saw the cowherd lying unconscious. An axe dripping blood lay beside him. The mouth of the anthill was seeping with blood. They feared that a serpent living in the anthill had been struck with the axe. They ran back to the king to convey this information.

The king hurried in his palanquin. The moment he saw the spot he realized that something unusual had happened there. ‘Was it a sin against god?’ He did not know. He prayed to his favorite deity,

“Please make it clear to me as to what has happened here. If it is my fault, I am ready to do parihaaram for my mistake”

6#1b. விஸ்வரூபன்

“அறிந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும் முதலில் நாம்
விருத்திரன் இந்திரன் பகைமையின் காரணம்.

தத்துவ ஞானியாகத் தேவர்களில் சிறந்திருந்த
துவஷ்ட பிரஜாபதி வெறுத்தான் இந்திரனை.

உருவாக்கினான் மூன்று தலை உடைய மகன்
திரிசிரன் என்னும் விஸ்வரூபனைத் துவஷ்டா.

வசீகரித்தான் விஸ்வரூபன் அனைவரையும்,
வசீகரித்தான் தன் மூன்று பிரகாச முகங்களால்.

செய்தான் வேத அத்யயனம் ஒரு முகத்தால்
செய்தான் சுரபானம் இன்னும் ஒரு முகத்தால்.

கண்டான் உலக நிகழ்வுகளை ஒரு முகத்தால்
கொண்டான் புலன் அடக்கமும், நல்ல மனமும்.

தவம் செய்யலானான் பஞ்ச அக்னிகள் நடுவே.
தவம் செய்யலானான் ஏகாக்கிர சிந்தையோடு.

கவலை பற்றிக் கொண்டது இந்திரனை – திரிசிரன்
தவவலிமை பெற்றுவிட்டால் பறி போகும் பதவி.

‘முளையிலேயே கிள்ள வேண்டும் பகைவனை;
வளரவிடக் கூடாது பகைவனை வலிய மரமாக.

கெடுக்க வேண்டும் தீவிரத் தவத்தை உடனடியாக!
கெடுக்க வேண்டும் காம உணர்வுகளைத் தூண்டி!

அனுப்புவேன் அப்சரஸ்களைத் திரிசிரனிடம்;
அழிப்பேன் திரிசிரனின் தீவிரத் தவத்தை நான்!”

அழைத்தான் தேவ கன்னியர் அனைவரையும்;
விழைந்தான் அவர்கள் உதவியைக் கோரிப் பெற.

6#1b. Viswaroopan

“First of all, we must know the reason for the enmity between Viruthraasuran and Indra. Thvashta prajaapati was a famous Deva but he hated Indra. He created a son Viswaroopan also known as
Trisiras, with three heads.

Viswaroopan was a favorite of everyone by his good looks and good conduct. He recited Veda with one face, he ate and drank with the second face and he watched the happenings of the world with his third face.

He started doing severe penance seated surrounded by five agnis. His concentration was total. Indra got worried because if Trisiras completed his penance and got more power, he might displace Indra from his set in the heaven.

Indra told himself, "I have to nip my enemy in the bud. It will be foolish to let him grow into a mighty enemy and then try to get rid of him. I must disturb his penance by arousing his lust and love for women. I shall send all my beautiful apsaras to him and ruin his penance."

Indra called all his divine damsels, the apsaras, and sought their help in his lowly scheme.
