9h. பாலலீலைகள் (8)
கணேசனுக்கு அகவை ஏழு ஆனது;
பணிந்து செல்வர் முனிவர்கள் வந்து.
காசியப முனிவரும், அதிதி தேவியும்
கணேசனிடம் வந்து அடி பணிந்தனர்.
பதின்மூவர் ஆவர் காசியபர் மனைவியர்;
பகை கொண்டவர் வினதையும், கத்ருவும்
வினதையைச் சிறையில் இட்டவள் கத்ரு.
வினதையின் வீட்டுக்கு வந்தாள் கத்ரு.
மறக்கவில்லை வினதை பகைமையை;
திறக்கவில்லை வாயைச் சக்களத்தியிடம்!
ஜடாயு வினதையின் மகன்களில் ஒருவன்
கடிந்து பேசினான் அவன் மாற்றாந்தாயிடம்.
தலைமுடியைப் பிடித்து இழுத்துச் சென்று
தள்ளினான் தெருவில் இரக்கம் இல்லாமல்.
கத்ருவின் புதல்வர்கள் கொடிய நாகங்கள்;
கத்ரு குறை கூறினாள் வினதையைப் பற்றி.
“பழி தீர்க்கச் சிறை செய்யுங்கள் ஜடாயுவை!”
மொழி கேட்ட நாகங்கள் சீறிப் புறப்பட்டன!
வினதையின் மகன்கள் பறவை இனத்தவர்!
சேனன், சம்பாதி, ஜடாயு ஆகிய மூவரும்
நகங்களால் கீறி, அலகுகளால் கொத்தி
நாகங்களைச் சின்னா பின்னப் படுத்தினர்.
பறந்து, பறந்து தாக்கியவர்களிடமிருந்து
பயந்து, பயந்து ஓடி விட்டனர் நாகங்கள்.
வலிய நாகங்கள் வந்தனர் எண்மர்;
எளிதாக மூவரையும் சிறை செய்தனர்.
தாங்கவில்லை துயரம் வினதைக்கு!
தயங்காமல் கேட்டாள் கணவனிடம்,
“நாகங்களை வென்று மகன்களை மீட்க,
நான் பெற வேண்டும் வலிய மகனை!”

Now Ganesha was seven years old. Rushis would come by to pay him their respect. Once sage Kasyapa and Aditi Devi came by and visited Ganesha.
Sage Kasyapa had thirteen wives and Aditi was one of them. There was deep animosity between his two other wives – Kadru and Vinataa. Kadru was the mother of all the snakes and Vinataa was the mother of all the birds.
Kadru had tricked once and imprisoned Vinataa. So when Kadru visited Vinataa’s house, Vinataa did not speak to her since her enmity was still fresh in her mind.
Jataayu, one of the sons of Vinataa, spoke to Kadru very harshly. He dragged her by her hair and pushed her down on the street.
Kadru became very angry by this rude behavior and told her sons the snakes, “You must avenge the insult inflicted on me by Jataayu. Go and imprison him”
The snakes went in great anger. Jataayu and his two other brothers Senan and Sampaati fought valorously with the angry snakes. They used their mighty claws and beaks and hurt the snakes very badly.
The snakes took off frightened by the aerial attack of the birds. Now eight of the mightiest snakes came there and imprisoned the three bird brothers very easily.
Vinataa became very upset. She payed to her husband, “Give me a son who will be strong enough to fight with the snakes and free my three sons from their prison”

புறமுதுகிட்டு ஓடும் அசுர வீரரைக் கண்டு
பிறந்தது வெஞ்சினம் மகிஷன் நெஞ்சில்.
“அவிர் பாகம் தின்னும் அமரருக்கு வலிமை!
அள்ளி விழுங்கும் அசுரருக்கு பலஹீனமா?
கொன்றொழிப்பேன் தேவர்களை இன்றோடு!”
சென்றான் கதையைச் சுழற்றியபடி மஹிஷன்.
அடித்தான் இந்திரனின் தோளைக் கதையால்;
பொடித்தான் கதையினை வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தால்.
வாளோடும், வேறு பல ஆயுதங்களோடும்
தாளாது போரிட்டன தேவ அசுரப் படைகள்.
மாயா ஜாலம் செய்தான் மஹிஷாசுரன் அங்கு
மந்திரம் உருவாக்கியது பலப்பல அசுரர்களை.
இருந்தனர் மஹிஷனைப் போலவே அவர்கள்!
பொருதனர் மஹிஷனைப் போலவே அவர்கள்!
திறன் இழந்தனர் தேவர் மாயையை வெல்ல;
புறமுதுகிட்டனர் தேவர்கள் களத்திலிருந்து.
துதித்தனர் அனைவரும் காக்கும் கடவுளை
உதித்தார் கருடாரூடராக விஷ்ணு பிரான்!
சக்கரம் அழித்தது மாய அசுரர்களை – பின்பு
மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் யுத்தம் தொடர்ந்தது.
சூழ்ந்தனர் மகிஷனின் அசுர சேனாதிபதிகள்;
சூழும் ஓநாய்க் கூட்டம் போலத் தேவர்களை.
தொடர்ந்தது போர் ஐம்பது நாட்கள் – போர்
நடந்தது சம வலிமை உடையவரிடையே.

Mahishan lost his temper seeing his warriors run away in utter confusion. “Devaas who thrive on the havisu have so much more strength then the asuraas who gobble up food! I will to kill all the Devaas today!”
He went to the war front swirling his mace. He struck Indra on his shoulder. Indra shattered his mace with his vajraayudam.
A fierce battle ensued. Mahishan chanted a mantra which made many more asuras appear there. They all looked like Mahishan. They all fought like Mahishan.
The Devaa could not see through the trick of Maayaa. They started to run away from the battle field. Then they prayed to Vishnu – their protector. Vishnu appeared on his Garuda Vaahanam and released his chakraayudam.
It made the Maaya asuraas vanish and the battle continued again. The asuraa army generals lead their army and the war went on for fifty days. Both the armies were well matched and the war continued without victory or defeat.

இலங்கை கடலில் ஆழ்ந்தது அறிந்து
இலங்கையின் காவலன் அதிவீரன்
அடைந்தான் துன்பம், அடைந்தான் நாணம்,
அடைந்தான் சினம், அறிகிலன் காரணம்.
“அவுணர்கள் இதுபோலச் செய்யார்கள்!
அன்னை மாயை இதுபோலச் செய்யாள்.
மும்மூர்த்திகளும் இதுபோலச் செய்யார்.
மற்ற தேவர்களும் இதுபோலச் செய்யார்.
என்னைக் காவலாக வைத்தார் எந்தை.
என் செயல் வீரம் இவ்வளவு தானோ?”
வீரவாகுவைக் கண்டான் அதிவீரன்.
“நீரில் மூழ்கக் காரணம் இவன் தானோ?”
அவுணர் படை சூழ்ந்தது வீரவாகுவை.
அவுணர் படை தாக்கியது வீரவாகுவை!
வாட்படையை எடுத்து வீசிய வீரவாகு,
நாற்படைகளையும் எளிதாய் அழித்தார்.
வேற்படையை வீசி எறிந்தான் அதிவீரன்;
வேற்படை துண்டானது வாட்படையால்!
தண்டத்தை எடுத்து எறிந்தான் அதிவீரன்;
தண்டம் துண்டாகி விட்டது மார்பில் பட்டு!
முத்தலை சூலத்தை மார்பினில் செலுத்த
வெத்திலைக் கொடிபோல ஒடித்தார் அதை.
நான்முகன் அளித்த ஒரு வாட்படையால்
நன்கு போரிட்டான் அவுணன் அதிவீரன்.
வீரவாகுவுக்கு ஈடு கொடுக்க இயலாமல்
வீரமரணம் அடைந்துவிட்டான் அதிவீரன்.

Lanka sank into the sea. Athiveeran was in charge of protecting Lanka. He became sad, angry, ashamed and did not know what caused the submerging.
“The asuras won’t do such a thing. Mayadevi won’t do such a thing. The Trimoorthis won’t do such a thing. The devas won’t do such a thing! My father trusted me with this job, but am I worthy of his trust?”
Then he saw Veerabaahu coming there and wondered whether he had caused the calamity.
The army of the asuras surrounded Veerabaahu immediately and started attacking him. Veerabaahu drew out his sword and vanquished the asura army in no time.
Athiveeran threw his spear at Veerabaahu. He promptly cut it into two. Athiveeran threw his dhandam which shattered into many pieces when it hit the strong chest of Veerabaahu.
Athiveeran tried to attack with his trident and Veerabaahu broke it as if it were a creeping plant. Athiveeran fought valiantly with the sword presented by Brahma.
But he was no match to the superior Veerabahu and reached the Veera swargam during the fight.

“பெறுவாய் ஒரு மகனை நீ விரும்பியபடியே!
உருவாகும் ஒரு முட்டை உன்னிடம் – அதை
உடைக்க வல்லவர் கணேசகுமாரர் மட்டுமே!
மயூரம் வெளிவரும் அந்த முட்டையிலிருந்து;
மயூர வாஹனர் ஆகிவிடுவார் கணேசகுமாரர்!
தண்டிப்பார் துஷ்ட நாகங்களை – வெளியே
கொண்டுவருவார் உன் அருமை மக்களை!”
உருவானது ஒரு முட்டை அவள் கருவில்;
பரிவுடன் பாதுகாத்தாள் அவள் அதனை!
விளையாடும் போது கணேசர் சிறாருடன்,
விநோதப் பறவையைக் கண்டார் வனத்தில்

பறவையைப் பிடிக்கச் சென்றார் கணேசன்.
“தனிமைப் படுத்தி அழைத்துச் சென்றால்

பிடிபடுபவன் போல நடந்து நடந்து சென்று
பிரித்துவிட்டான் கணேசனை பிறரிடமிருந்து.
எண்ணத்தை அறிந்து கொண்ட கணேசன்
ஏவினார் தன் கைப் பாசத்தை அவன் மீது
“பச்சிளம் பாலகன் கொன்று விட்டான்;
பட்சி உருவில் வந்த கொடிய அசுரனை”
கேட்டவுடன் புரிந்து கொண்டாள் வினதை;
ஓட்டமும் நடையுமாகச் சென்றாள் அவரிடம்.
பாதுகாத்து வைத்திருந்த முட்டையைத் தன்
பத்து விரல் நகங்களால் கீறினார் கணேசர்.
அழகிய மயில் ஒன்று வெளி வந்தவுடன்
அதன் மேல் ஆரோஹணித்தார் கணேசன்!

Sage Kasyapa consoled his wife Vinataa, “You will beget a mighty son as per your wish. An egg will be formed in your womb. Only Ganesha will be able to break it open.
A strong peacock will emerge from the egg. Ganesha will accept it as his vaahanam. He will be known as Mayura Vaahanan. He will punish the wicked snakes and free your sons from their prison.”
An egg formed in Vinataa’s womb. When she delivered the egg, she guarded it well and waited for Ganesha’s arrival.
One day Ganesha was playing with the other muni kumaaraas. He saw a strange bird in the forest. He wanted to catch it. The bird was in fact an asura – changed into an attractive bird.
The bird-asura acted as if he was within the reach of Ganesha but he would move on whenever Ganesha tried to catch him. His aim was to separate Ganesha from the other children so that killing him would become easier.
Ganesha read the thoughts of the asuran. He released his paasam which killed the asuran then and there. Everybody shouted, “Ganesha has killed an asuran who had come here changed into as a bird!”
Vinataa heard the shouting. She knew the time had come for her son to emerge from the egg. She brought the egg to Ganesha.
He tore it apart using his finger nails. A beautiful and strong peacock emerged from the egg. Ganesha sat on its back and became the Mayura Vaahana Ganesha.

One day Ganesha was playing with the other muni kumaaraas. He saw a strange bird in the forest. He wanted to catch it. The bird was in fact an asura – changed into an attractive bird.
The bird-asura acted as if he was within the reach of Ganesha but he would move on whenever Ganesha tried to catch him. His aim was to separate Ganesha from the other children so that killing him would become easier.
Ganesha read the thoughts of the asuran. He released his paasam which killed the asuran then and there. Everybody shouted, “Ganesha has killed an asuran who had come here changed into as a bird!”
Vinataa heard the shouting. She knew the time had come for her son to emerge from the egg. She brought the egg to Ganesha.
He tore it apart using his finger nails. A beautiful and strong peacock emerged from the egg. Ganesha sat on its back and became the Mayura Vaahana Ganesha.

பறந்தோடியது கருடன் விஷ்ணுவுடன்!
பயந்தோடினர் தேவர்கள் களம் விடுத்து!
பந்தாடினான் மஹிஷன் கொம்புகளால்
பயந்தோடிய தேவர்களை நாற்புறமும்.
மலைகளைக் கெல்லி வீசினான் மஹிஷன்;
மலைகளைத் தகர்த்தார் திரும்பிய விஷ்ணு!
சாய்ந்தான் மஹிஷன் மூர்ச்சித்து ஒருகணம்;
பாய்ந்தான் மஹிஷன் கதையுடன் மறுகணம்!
மாய்ந்தது அவன் கர்ஜனை சங்கொலியில்.
பாய்ந்தது புது உற்சாகம் தேவர்களிடையே !
உற்சாகம் கொண்ட தேவர்களைக் கண்டு
தற்காலிகச் சோர்வு அடைந்தனர் அசுரர்.

Vishnu released his Sudarshan on Andakan who fought with him. Andakan stopped Vishnu’s Sudarshan with his own discus and laughed arrogantly – appreciating his own valor.
The Devaas were troubled by his laughter while the asuraas became very happy on hearing it.
Vishnu struck Andakan with his mace and he got thrown far away. Now Mahishan struck Vishnu with his mace and Vishnu fell faint on his Garuda vaahanam.
Garuda flew away carrying Vishnu to safety and the army of Devaas started running away in confusion.
Mahishan chased the Devaas running in confusion and tossed them around using his mighty horns. He uprooted mountains and threw them on the frightened Devaas.
Vishnu came round by then and returned to the battle field. He shattered the mountains tossed by Mahishan.
Mahishan fainted for a moment but soon regained consciousness and charged at Vishnu with his mace.
The roar made by Mahishan was drowned by the sound made by Vishnu’s conch. The Devaa found a new surge of courage while the asuraas were troubled by the enthusiasm of the Devaa.

கோபுரங்களும், மதில்களும் சூரபத்மனின்
கோலாகல வாழ்வைப் பறை சாற்றின.
வடக்கு வாயிலில் கோரன் அதிகோரன்!
உடன் இருந்தன நால்வகைப் படைகளும்.
விழைந்தார் போரைத் தவிர்த்து விட்டு
கீழை வாயில் வழியாக உட்புகுவதற்கு.
இருந்தன அங்கும் நால்வகைப் படைகள்
வீரபானு, மகிடாட்சன் தலைமையின் கீழ்!
தொல்லையே வேண்டாம் என்று எண்ணித்

Then he decided to try his luck at the southern entrance.

“Revered Mother! what is your wish?” Ganesha asked Vinata. She replied, “Just like all the other mothers in the world, I wish for the welfare of my sons.
I pray to you to free my sons imprisoned by the wicked naagaas. Please grant me constant bhakti towards you and the good fortune of worshiping you always”
Ganesha granted those boons and went back. Now his new name became Mayuresar. One day, he went to the pond on his peacock, to take his bath.
At the same time the daughter of the snake Vasuki also came there with her friends. She was attracted by the aura of Ganesha and asked about him. Ganesha introduced himself as Mayuresar – the son of Siva.
The Naaga kanya wanted to do pooja and aaraadhanaa to Ganesha. She invited him to go with her to her land of Naagaas. Ganesha left behind his friends on the bank of the pond and went with her.
She did puja to Ganesha and offered him her hospitality before taking him to her father Vasuki and his Durbar. Vasuki was very arrogant and ignored Ganesha.
To get even with him, Ganesha plucked off the naagaratnam from Vasuki. He fell faint since he had lost all his power stored in the gem. The whole durbar ran in confusion.
Ganesha released the three sons of Vinata namely Jataayu, Sampaati and Senan.
By then Vasuki woke up and came charging at Ganesha. Ganesha subdued him in a moment. He lifted Vasuki and wore him as an ornamental ring around one of his fingers.

Mahishan saw the enthusiastic Devaas and the tired Asuraas. He could not stand that sight. He assumed the form of a ferocious lion and pounced into the battle field.
The Devaas were no match before him. He scratched Vishnu’s chest causing bleeding wounds. He scratched Garudan’s body creating more bloodshed.
Vishnu went back to Vaikuntam on his Garuda and Brahma rushed back to Satyalokam. Mahishan now assumed his origonal buffalo form.
He attacked the Deva in the battle field. They ran away from the war front. He chased them as if they were cattle.
He rode on the four tusked Airaavat – Indra’s elephant. All the treasure of Indra Karpaga vruksham, Kamadhenu, Uchchisravas were stolen by Mahishan. Indra was nowhere to be seen!
Mahishan said,”Whatever is here now belong to us!” He sat on Indra’s throne. He selected his team of ministers and generals.
The Danavaas grew stronger and ruled the swarggam while the Devaas became weaker and had to hide on the earth.
When they could think clearly having come out of their shock, they went to Brahma Devan.

ஐயாயிரம் விலங்குகளை மென்றுதின்று
வாயெல்லாம் குருதி வழிய நிற்பவன்,
தீவினைகள் செய்யும் இயல்பினன்,
தினவெடுத்துத் திரியும் பாங்கினன்;
சினம் கொண்டான் வீரவாகுவிடம்,
“இனம் தெரியாமல் வந்துவிட்டாய் நீ!
மாயங்கள் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தவனோ – உன்
மாயங்கள் எம்மை என்ன செய்யும்?
கொடிய சிங்கம் வசிக்கும் குகையில்
மடப் பெண் மான் நுழைந்தது போல்
கடல் தாண்டி இங்கு வந்துள்ளாய் நீ!
உடல் துறந்து உயிர்பறந்துவிடும் காண்!
வாட்படையுடன் தனியாக இங்கு வந்த
கோட்பாடு என்ன என்று உரைப்பாய்!
அச்சம் என்பதே அறியாதவனாக
இச்சை எதன் மேல் வைத்து வந்தாய்?”

வாயெல்லாம் குருதி வழிய நிற்பவன்,
தீவினைகள் செய்யும் இயல்பினன்,
தினவெடுத்துத் திரியும் பாங்கினன்;
சினம் கொண்டான் வீரவாகுவிடம்,
“இனம் தெரியாமல் வந்துவிட்டாய் நீ!
மாயங்கள் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தவனோ – உன்
மாயங்கள் எம்மை என்ன செய்யும்?
கொடிய சிங்கம் வசிக்கும் குகையில்
மடப் பெண் மான் நுழைந்தது போல்
கடல் தாண்டி இங்கு வந்துள்ளாய் நீ!
உடல் துறந்து உயிர்பறந்துவிடும் காண்!
வாட்படையுடன் தனியாக இங்கு வந்த
கோட்பாடு என்ன என்று உரைப்பாய்!
அச்சம் என்பதே அறியாதவனாக
இச்சை எதன் மேல் வைத்து வந்தாய்?”

The southern gate was under the protection of Gajamukhan. He had one thousand elephant faces with one thousand trunks.
He had two thousand powerful shoulders and arms. He loved to fight.
He would eat five thousand wild animals for a meal and appear with blood dripping from his mouth.
He was wicked and was always on the look out for a chance to wage a war.
He saw Veerabaahu and became very angry!
“You did a mistake in coming here. Are you well versed in Maya? Your Maya cannot delude us. You have entered the city like a dumb doe entering a lion’s cave.
You have crossed the ocean and come here all the way to lose your life. You have come with nothing other than your sword. Tell me the truth. What is your mission here?”

கணமும் நினைக்கவில்லை இறைவன் என்று!
எதிர்த்தான் தன் நாகர்கள் படையுடன் வந்து;
உதித்தது மயூரம் கணேசர் நினைத்தவுடனே!
அதிர்ந்தன நாகங்கள் மயிலைக் கண்டவுடன்;
ஒளிந்தன ஓடிச்சென்று நான்கு திசைகளிலும்!
“விரட்டி விடுவாய் நாகர்களின் சேனையை!
விரட்டிப் பிடி விடாதே ஆதிசேஷனை!” என
பறந்தது மயில் தன் சிறகுகளை அசைத்து!
பயந்தன நாகங்கள் வீசிய பெருங்காற்றில்!
மூச்சு முட்டி அவர்கள் சிதறி ஓடிவிடப்
பேச்சின்றி நின்றான் ஆதிசேஷன் அங்கே!
ஆணவத்தை அடக்கி, அறிவைப் புகட்ட
அணிந்தார் மயூரேசர் தன் அரைநாணாக!
நாகலோகத்தில் இருந்து வெளி வந்தபின்,
நடந்தவற்றை அறிந்து சினம் கொண்டார்.
கொக்கு வடிவில் வந்த அசுரன் தன்னிடம்
சிக்கிய முனிகுமாரரை விழுங்கினானாம்!
அழித்து வீழ்த்தினார் மாயக் கொக்கை!
விழித்து எழுந்தனர் உயிருடன் சிறுவர்.
காட்டுப் பன்றியாக வந்தான் ஓரசுரன்!
காட்டெருமையாக வந்தான் ஓரசுரன்!
வந்தவர் திரும்பிச் செல்லவில்லை!
வந்த பாதை ஒருவழிப்பாதை ஆனது!
முனி புங்கவர்கள் கனிவுடன் வந்தனர்;
பணிந்து சென்றனர் கணேச குமாரனை.

Aadiseshan became violent when he heard of these happenings. He forgot that Ganesha was the God Supreme. He gathered his naaga sena and came for a battle with Ganesha.
Ganesha contemplated on his mayuram and it appeared there immediately. The snakes were terrified by the sight of the magnificent mayuram.
They ran and tried to escape. Ganesha commanded the peacock,”Chase off all those snakes. Do not spare Aadi seshsan.”
The peacock flew moving its powerful wings. The wind created was so strong that the snakes felt breathless.
Aadisehan stood all alone there. Ganesha grabbed him, subdued him and wore him around his waist as an arai naaN.
While Ganesha was visiting the land of Naagaas, an asuran had come there. He had assumed the form of a giant crane. He gobbled up all the little boys he could get hold of.
Mayuresar killed the crane. All the children gobbled up by him came out alive and safe.
Two asuras appeared as a wild boar and a wild buffalo. They too got killed by Ganesha. The path leading to Ganesha became an one way traffic. Whosoever came to him, never went back alive.
The rushis and sages knew the greatness of Ganesha. They would come and worship him frequently.

கதி என்னவாயிற்று புறமுதுகிட்ட பிறகு என?
சிந்தையினின்றும் விலக்கி விட்டீரா எம்மை?
எந்தை எமக்கு என்றும் நீரே அறிவீர்!” எனவும்
“விமோசனம் கிடைக்க நாடுவோம் அனைவரும்
விஷ்ணு, சிவனின் உதவியை இப்போதே!” என்று
சென்றனர் அனைவரும் கைலாச நாதனிடம்,
கண்டனர் அனைவரும் கைலாச நாதனை!
விவரித்தான் நடந்தவற்றை பிரமன் – பின்பு
வினவினான் நடக்க வேண்டியதைப் பற்றி.
சிரித்தார் சிவபிரான் இதைக் கேட்டதும்,
உரைத்தார் தன் நகைப்பின் காரணத்தை!
“வரம் கொடுத்து வாழ்வித்தவனும் நீயே!
வந்து முறையீடு செய்கின்றவனும் நீயே!
அளித்தாய் வரம் பெண்ணால் மரணம் என,
அறிவாயா அந்தப் பெண் உள்ள இடத்தை?
எங்கு உள்ளாள் அத்தகைய ஒரு பெண்?
எவருடன் உள்ளாள் அத்தகைய பெண்?
சிருஷ்டி கர்த்தா நீயே அல்லவா – கூறு
சிருஷ்டித்தாயா அத்தகைய பெண்ணை?
மாயையில் வல்லவர் அசுரர்கள் என்கிறாய்;
மாயையில் வல்லவர் விஷ்ணு என்கிறேன்.
செல்வீர் விஷ்ணுவிடம் ஒன்று கூடி;
சொல்வார் விஷ்ணு நல்ல உபாயம்!”
வீசியது நறுமணம் கமழும் காற்று;
விரவியது பறவைகளின் இனிய இசை.
வானும், திசைகளும் நிர்மலமாயின;
வானவருக்குச் சுப சகுனங்கள் ஆயின.
