DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 4

4#6e. “வரம் தாரும்!”

“உம் திருவடிகளை அடைந்தோம் பக்தியோடு.
யாம் விரும்பவில்லை இந்திரலோகம் திரும்ப!

வேண்டும் வரத்தைக் கேளுங்கள் என்றீர்கள்!
வேண்டும் வரத்தைக் கேட்கின்றோம் நாங்கள்.

நாயகன் ஆகவேண்டும் நீரே எமக்கு – மனதில்
நாதன் நீரே என்று யாம் உறுதி பூண்டுள்ளோம்.

இருப்போம் நாங்கள் இங்கேயே உம்மோடு-நீர்
உருவாக்கிய பெண்கள் செல்லட்டும் அங்கு

அருளுங்கள் யாம் கோரிய வரத்தை – யாம்
விரும்புகின்றோம் உம் உறவை மட்டுமே.”

நாராயணன் கூறினார் புன்முறுவலுடன்
நாதனாகக் கோரும் அப்சரஸ்களிடம்,

“நிறைவான தவம் செய்தேன் பல ஆண்டுகள்
குறைவின்றி வென்றேன் ஐம்புலன்களையும்.

குலைக்க மாட்டேன் என் அரிய தவத்தை!
நிலையில்லாத காம சுகத்தை விழையேன்.

சகஜமான புலன் இன்பங்களை விழைவர்
சாமான்ய மனிதர்கள் மட்டுமே உலகில்.

புலன்களை அடக்கிவிட்ட புத்திசாலி
அலையமாட்டன் காம சுகத்தை நாடி!

ஒப்புக் கொள்ளவில்லை அப்சரஸ் இதை,
தப்பு நாராயணனின் கருத்து என்றனர்.

ஐம்புலன்களும் ஆனந்தம் தரும் எனினும்
ஐந்திலும் சிறந்தது ஸ்பரிச சுகம் ஒன்றே.

சுவர்க்கமும் ஈடாகது இந்த சுகத்துக்கு!
சுகமாக இருப்போம் அனைவரும் இங்கு.”

4#6e. “Grant us this boon!”

The apsaras spoke to Naaraayanan thus:

“We surrender at your feet with intense bhakti. We do not wish to go back to Indra lokam. You promised to grant us any boon we seek.

This is the boon we seek from you.You must become our master and husband. We have all determined to wed none but you. We will stay back here with you. You may send these beautiful girls created by you to Indra instead of us!”

Naaraayanan smiled and replied to them, “I did penance for several years. I have conquered my five indriyaas (sense organs). I will not destroy my power of penance by indulging in love or lust.

Only normal people willingly waste their lives in love and lust. The wise man who has conquered his mind and body will not fall for these impermanent things in life.”

The apsaras tried to impress him again, “All the sense organs yield pleasure but the pleasure of touch is the best of all. Even the pleasure of heaven will pale when compared to the pleasure of touch. We will all stay together and live happily on earth!”

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM.

9a. மேன்மை பெறுதல்.

சிங்கமுகன் எண்ணத்தை அறிந்து கொண்டு,
சிவபிரான் தோன்றினார் கிழப் பார்ப்பனராக.

தள்ளாத வயது; தடி பிடித்த தளர்நடை,
வேள்விச் சாலையை அடைந்து வினவினார்,

“வருந்துவது ஏன்? விருத்தாந்தம் கூறு!”
திருவடி தொழுது எழுந்தான் சிங்கமுகன்.

நிகழ்ந்த நிகழ்வுகளை எடுத்துக் கூறினான்.
நெகிழ்ந்த கிழவர் ஓர் உறுதி அளித்தார்,

“வேள்வித் தீயினின்றும் உம் அண்ணனை
மீள வைக்கின்றேன்! கவலை ஒழியுங்கள்!”

தேவ கங்கையை நினைத்தவுடன் அது
தேடி வந்து பதம் பணிந்து நின்றது.

அண்ணலின் ஆணைப்படி நடுக்குழியில்
அண்ணனை உயிருடன் எழுப்பித் தந்தது.

தம்பிகள் தத்தளித்தனர் மகிழ்ச்சியில்;
தம் தலைவனைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

விண்ணில் நின்று மண்ணில் நிகழ்வதை
விரும்பிக் கண்ட அமரர் அஞ்சினர்!

திடீர் நிகழ்வுகளால் மருண்டு அஞ்சி
திகிலுடன் ஓடி ஒளிந்து கொண்டனர்.

முகிலின் வரவு கண்ட மயில்களாக
மகிழ்ந்தனர் அவுணர்கள் ஆர்ப்பரித்து!


முகிலின் வரவு கண்ட குயில்களாக
மூழ்கினர் அமரர்கள் ஆறாத் துயரில்

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM.

2 (# 9 A). SOORAPADMAN COMES BACK TO LIFE

Singa mukhan decided to jump into the fire and sacrifice his life. Siva read his thoughts and appeared there as a very old brahmin. He held a stick and walked with faltering steps.

He came to the yaaga saalaa and asked Singa mukhan,”Why are you so sad? Tell me everything in detail”

Singa mukhan paid his respects to the old man and told him of all the recent happenings. The old brahmin took pity on him and promised,
“I shall bring back your brother alive from the fire!”

He contemplated on the Deva Ganga who promptly came down to him, paid obeisance , entered the yaaga kundam and brought back Soorapadman to life!

The joy and jubilation of the asuras was complete. The Devas who were watching the sufferings of the asuras with interest now noticed the sudden resurrection of Soorapadman. They ran and took cover.

The asuras felt as happy as the peacocks which had sighted the dark rain clouds. The suras were as unhappy as the cuckoos which had sighted the dark rain clouds!

VINAAYAKA PURAANAM1


28b. பரசு பாணி

காசி சென்றனர் கீர்த்தியும் மகனும்,
பூசித்துத் துண்டி விநாயகர் அருள்பெற.

மணிகர்ணிகையில் நீராடுவர் அனுதினம்,
பணிந்து போற்றுவர் துண்டி விநாயகரை.

மாசி மாத அமர பக்ஷ சதுர்த்தி வந்தது
ஆசையுடன் விடியலில் புனித நீராடினர்

நான்கு எழுத்து மந்திரத்தை ஜெபித்தனர்
வன்னி மரத்தடியில் அமர்ந்து கொண்டு.

சந்திரன் உதிக்கும் வேளையில் வன்னி இலை,
மந்தார மலர், அறுகம் புல்லால் அர்ச்சனை.

ஐந்து முகங்களுடனும் பத்து புஜங்களுடனும்
வந்து காட்சி தந்தார் விநாயகப் பெருமான்.

“குமாரனுக்கு எந்த ஆபத்தும் வரக் கூடாது
குமாரன் பூரண ஆயுள் வாழ அருளும்!” என

“சகல பாக்கியங்களும் பெறுவான் இவன்,
சகல கீர்த்திகளையும் அடைவான் இவன் !

ஆயிரம் யாகங்கள் செய்வான் இவன் “
அனுக்ரஹம் செய்தார் விநாயகர்.

கரத்தில் அளித்தார் தன் வஜ்ராயுதத்தை
பரசு பாணி என்ற புதுப் பெயர் இட்டார்.

தாயும், மகனும் திரும்பினர் தம் நாடு;
தந்தை எதிர்கொண்டு வரவேற்றான்.

மகன் வளர்ந்த பின்னர் பிரியவிரதன்
மகனை மன்னனாக முடி சூட்டினான்.

ஹஸ்தி முகன் அருளால் கிப்பிரப் பிரசாதன்
ஸஹஸ்ர யாகம் செய்து நீடூழி வாழ்ந்தான்.

VINAAYAKA PURAANAM1

#28b. Parsu PaaNi

Keerthi and her son Kippira Prasaad went to Kasi kshetram. They would worship ThuNdi Vinayaka and seek his grace. Every day they took a holy dip in the MaNikarNikai theertham and did aaraadhaana to ThuNdi Vinayaka.


It was the Amara paksha chathurthi of Maasi maasam on that day. They took the holy dip and were doing aaraadhanaas ususal. They did archanai with vanni patram, mandaara flowers and green grass under a vanni tree just as the moon rose.


The Lord Vinayaka appeared to them with his five brilliant faces and ten impressive bujam. Keerthi prayed to the lord,”Please remove all the dangers away from my son. Please bless him with a poorna ayush and a long happy life. I seek nothing else”


Vinayaka blessed the boy and said,” Your son will receive all the good things in life. He will become very famous in his time. He will preform one thousand yagnas. ” Vinayaka gave the child his own parasu and named his as Parasu PaaNi.


Keerthi and her son returned to their kingdom. The king Priyavrathan received them and was happy that everything ended well. When his son was of the right age, the king made him the new king. Kippira prasad who had won the grace of ThuNdi Vinayakar lived a long fruitful life and performed one thousand yagnas.

4#7a. தத்துவ விசாரணை

“விட்டுப் போக மாட்டோம்!” என்று கூறினர்
விண்ணுலக மங்கையர் நாராயணனிடம்!

தத்துவ விசாரணையில் ஆழ்ந்து விட்டார்,
தர்ம சங்கடத்தில் சிக்கிவிட்ட நாராயணன்.

‘அஹங்காரத்தால் வந்தது இந்தத் துன்பம்!
அஹங்காரம் கெடுக்கும் செய்த தவத்தை!

அஹங்காரம் கொடுக்கும் சம்சார பந்தத்தை;
அஹங்காரம் விதையாகும் சம்சார மரத்துக்கு!

மெளனமாக இருந்திருந்தால் இச்சோதனை
மெல்ல முடிந்து போயிருக்கும் எப்போதோ!

ஊர்வசி முதலிய பெண்களை உருவாக்கி
உயர்ந்த தவப்பயனை விரயம் செய்தேன்.

காமவசப்பட்ட தேவ கன்னிகைகள் – நம்
காலைச் சுற்றிய பாம்புகள் போலாயினர்!

புறக்கணித்தால் பிறக்கும் கோபம் -அந்த
நிறைவேறாத ஆசை தரும் கொடிய சாபம்

லோபம், காமம் இவை தரும் துன்பத்திலும்
கோபம் தரும் அதீதமான பல துன்பங்களை!

உராயும் மரங்களை அழித்துவிடும் – அந்த
உராய்வில் தோன்றும் தீப்பொறி அன்றோ?

ஏற்படுகின்ற கோபம் நமக்கு உறுதியாக
ஏற்படுத்தும் முற்றிலுமாக அழிவினை! ‘

சிந்தனை ஓட்டத்தை அறிந்துகொண்ட நரன்
வந்தனை செய்து கூறினான் தமையனிடம்

“பூர்வத்தில் ஆயிரம் தேவ வருடங்களுக்கு நாம்
ஆர்வத்துடன் புரிந்தோம் பிரஹலாதனுடன் போர்!

நஷ்டமானது நம் இருவர் செய்த தவமும்!
கஷ்டம் தரும் நாம் கொள்ளுகின்ற சினம்”

4#7a. “My ego led to my troubles!”

The damsels from the heaven refused to go back to swarggam. Naaraayanan sat in deep contemplation wondering why this was happening! He was in a real dilemma.

He said to himself, “All these happened because of my ego. Ego ruins the power earned by one’s penance. Ego causes the bondage of Samsaara. Ego is the seed of the tree of Samsaara. Had I just remained quiet, all these things would not have happened at all !

I created Oorvasi as well as seventeen thousand and fifty women and wasted the power I had accumulated by my long penance. These infatuated damsels are like the serpents wound round my legs.

If I resist their advances, they are sure to get hurt and may even curse me. Anger causes more problems than even greed and lust put together. When two trees rub against each other, the fire sparks created out of friction might burn both of them.”

Naran understood the thoughts in his brother’s mind and told him,” We had spent one thousand Deva years fighting with Prahlaad. It drained all the power we had accumulated by our tapas. Anger always destroys a person!”

9b. இறைவனின் தரிசனம்.

மகிழ்ந்து நின்றான் சூரன் வாழ்த்தொலியில்!
மாற்றிக் கொண்டார் சிவன் தம் உருவை!

விடை ஏறிய பிரானாகச் சிவன் காட்சிதர,
மடை திறந்த வெள்ளம் போல மகிழ்வுடன்;

நிலத்தில் விழுந்து பலமுறை வணங்கிப்
புளகம் அடைந்தான் அசுரன் சூரபத்மன்.

“நெடுங்காலம் என்னையே எண்ணிக்
கடும் தவம் செய்யக் காரணம்?” என

“அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தினுக்கும் அரச பதவி;
அண்டங்களை ஆள்வதற்கு ஆட்சி உருளை;

நினைத்தவுடன் எங்கும் செல்ல ஓர் ஊர்தி;
தினையளவும் அழிவில்லாத வஜ்ஜிர காயம்;

திருமாலையும், தேவரையும் வெல்லும் திறன்;
பெருமை தரும் ஆற்றலும், ஆயுதங்களும்”

என்று அனைத்தையுமே சூரபத்மன் வேண்ட,
கண்ணுதற் பிரான் அவற்றைத் தந்தருளினார்.

“ஆயிரம் கோடி அண்டங்களில் நீ இனி
ஆயிரத்தெட்டு அண்டங்களை ஆளுவாய்!

குற்றம் இல்லாத உடல் வலிமையுடன் நீ
நூற்றெட்டு யுகங்கள் ஆட்சி புரிவாய்!”

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் விரைந்து சென்று
அனைத்துலகும் சேரவல்ல இந்திரஞாலம்;

அண்டங்களை ஆள ஆட்சி உருளை;
அனைவருக்கும் முதல்வன் ஆகும் மேன்மை;

தேவர்களை வெல்லும் சீரிய வலிமை;
தெய்வப் படைக்கலங்களுடன் தந்தார்;

எந்நாளும் அழியாத வஜ்ஜிர காயமும்,
என்றும் தோற்காத நால்வகைப் படையும்;

தம்பியருக்கும் அளித்தார் ஓர் உறுதியும்,
“எம் சக்தியாலன்றி அழிவில்லை உமக்கு!”

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 (# 9 B). Lord Siva’s Dharshan.

Soorapadman was hailed by his brothers and his army. Siva changed his form and appeared as Lord Siva seated on Nandhi.

Sooran’s joy knew no bounds. He paid his respect by prostrating on the ground several times. Siva spoke,

“You have performed a severe penance for a very long time? What do you seek?”

Soorapadman replied, “The ruler-ship of all the worlds, a chariot which will take me wherever I want to go, a body which will not get old nor decay, the ability to conquer Vishnu and Indra and all the divine asthras. I seek all these from you Lord!”

Siva replied, “Of the ten thousand million worlds, you may rule 1008 worlds for 108 yugas. You will have a body as strong as a diamond.

The chariot Indra gnaalam will take you wherever you wish to go. You are the foremost among all living beings! You are invincible even to the Devas!”

He also gave the divine sasthrams and asthrams to Sooran. He gave the four siblings a rare promise, “There is no death or danger to you except by my own shakti!”

28c. கனவு

பிரமன் தொடர்ந்தார் மன்னன் தந்தையிடம்,
“பித்ரு உலகத்தில் இருந்து வந்துள்ளீர் நீர்.

பிள்ளை பிறப்பதற்கு வழி ஒன்று கேட்டீர்.
பிள்ளை பிறக்கும் விரதம் அனுஷ்டித்தால்!

சதுர்த்தியில் வைக்க வேண்டும் ஒரு கலசம்,
முதல், ஐந்தாவது அல்லது ஏழாவது மாதம்.

ஸ்தாபிக்க வேண்டும் அதன்மேல் இயந்திரம்.
ஸ்தாபிக்க வேண்டும் ஒரு விநாயகர் பிரதிமை.

ஆகுதி செய்த குறுணி எள், பிற வஸ்துக்களை
அளிக்க வேண்டும் தானமாகப் பலருக்கு.

இருபத்தொரு அந்தணருக்கு உணவளித்து
அருந்த வேண்டும் தன் உணவைக் கர்த்தா.

பிரதிமை இயந்திரங்களை ஆச்சாரியாருக்கு
விரத முடிவில் தானம் செய்ய வேண்டும்.

விநாயகருக்கு உகந்த விரதம் இதுவே.
அநாதிகாலம் தொட்டு செய்கின்றார்கள்.”

அத்தனை விஷயங்களையும் தெளிவாகப்
புத்தகத்தில் பதிவு செய்தார் தந்தையார்.

கடுமையான தவம் செய்யும் மகனிடம்
கொடுத்தார் அவன் கனவில் தோன்றி.

“சதுர்த்தி விரதம் ஒன்றே வழி உனக்குச்
சந்ததிகள் பிறந்து குலம் செழிப்பதற்கு.

அந்தணரைக் கொண்டு அந்த விரதம் செய்.
இந்தப் புத்தகத்தில் அதன் விதிமுறைகள்.”

கண் விழித்த கிருதவீர்யன் கண்டான் தந்தை
கனவில் தந்த புத்தகத்தைத் தன் கைகளில்.

‘கனவு வெறும் கனவு அல்ல’ …உணர்ந்தான்!
‘நனவாகும் வேளை வந்தது’… மகிழ்ந்தான்!

மனைவியுடன் திரும்பினான் தன் நாட்டுக்கு;
இனிச் செய்ய வேண்டியது சதுர்த்தி விரதம்.

VINAAYAKA PURAANAM - 1


#28c. The dream

Brahma continued to talk to Kritha Veeryan’s father. “You have come down here from Pithru lokam. You asked me for an advice to get santhathi through your son. Observing the Chathurti vratham will yield the desired result.

You must establish a kalasam in the first, fifth or seventh month of the vratham. A yantram and a pratima of Vigneswara must be established on the kalasam. Til and other things must be offered to many people as daanam.

Twenty one Brahmans must be fed an elaborate feast and only after that the kartha of the vratham must eat his food.

The yantram and the pratimai must be donated to the aachaarya at the end of the vratham. There is nor greater vratham to please Vinayaka than this chathurti vratham”

The father wrote down all the instructions clearly in a book. He appeared in the dream of his son and said, “If you observe chathurti vratham you will be blessed with a son. All the instruction are recorded in this book. Take the help of the learned brahmins and perform the vratham”

Krutha veeryan woke up from the dream and was surprised to find the book of instructions in his hands. He knew that the dream was not an idle dream.

The time had come for him to make the dream come true by returning to his country and performing the chathurti vratham immediately.

4#7b. ஜனமேஜயனின் ஐயங்கள்

“பிரஹலாதன் விஷ்ணு பக்தன், தர்மாத்மா;
நர நாராயணர்கள் விஷ்ணுவின் அம்சங்கள்.

போர் மூண்டது ஏன்? போர் தொடர்ந்தது ஏன்?
போர் மூண்டது சினத்தாலா? அகந்தையாலா?

ஆதவன் உதித்ததும் மறைந்துவிடும் இருள்;
அகந்தை உதித்ததும் மறைந்துவிடும் தவம்.

அரசர்கள் போரிடுவது சர்வ சாதாரணம்;
நர நாராயணர்கள் இரு தவ முனிவர்கள்.

முனிவர்களே கோப வசப்படுவர் எனில்
மனிதர்களின் நிலைமை என்னவாகும்?

பரீக்ஷித் சுற்றினான் முனிவர் கழுத்தினில்
பாம்பின் உடலை எழுந்த சினத்தினால்.

முனிகுமாரன் சபித்தான் அந்த மன்னனை
ஜனித்த சினத்தின் அதீத வேகத்தினால்!

மது அருந்தியவன் கருதான் ஆபத்தை – நாம்
விதி விளையாடினால் கருதோம் ஆபத்தை.

போர் நடந்தது ஏன்? பாதாளத்தில் இருந்து
பிரஹலாதன் வெளிப்பட்டது ஏன் கூறும்!

பெண்ணாசையாலா? பொன்னாசையாலா?
மண்ணாசையாலா? வேறு ஆசைகளினாலா?

ஆசைகளைத் துறந்த இரு முனிவர்கள்
ஆயிரம் தேவ வருடம் போரிட்டது ஏன்?

தவ முனிவர்கள் என்று அறிந்திருந்த போதும்
தவறான போரைப் பிரஹலாதன் புரிந்தது ஏன்?”

4#7b. Janamejayan’s doubts

King Janamejayan asked more doubts to sage Vyaasaa now.

“Prahlaad was a staunch devotee of VishNu. Nara and Naaraayanan were the amsam of Vishnu. Why would they fight with one another? Why and how was the war started? Why did it continue for one thousand Deva years?

When the Sun rises, the darkness gets dispelled. When Ego rises, the penance gets dissipated. Kings wage wars as a rule but two of the best tapasvis indulging in a long war? If rushis can not control their anger, what can I say about the common man?

King Pareekshit hung the body of a dead snake around the neck of a rushi due his surging anger. The son of the rushi cursed the king due to his surging anger.

A man intoxicated with wine does not consider the imminent dangers. So also the man who is deluded by his destiny does not consider the imminent dangers.

Why did the war start? Why did Prahlaad come out of Paataala ? Was the war due to greed for land or gold or due to the lust for a women?

Why did the tapasvis who had shunned the world fight for one thousand years. Why did Prahlaad fight with these two well known rushis?”

10. துர் உபதேசம்

மேன்மைகள் பெற்று மகிழ்ந்த சூரன்
மீண்டும் சென்றான் தன் தந்தையிடம்;

முனிவரை வணங்கி விவரங்கள் கூறி
“இனிச் செய்ய வேண்டியது யாது?” என,

“செல்வாய் நீ உன் குலகுரு சுக்கிரரிடம்;
சொல்வார் அவர் உந்தன் கடமைகளை!”

சுக்கிரர் ஆசி வழங்கி ஆரத்தழுவினார்,
மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அளவளாவினார்.

வீர வேள்வி செய்து பெற்ற மேன்மையை
விவரமாக கூறினான் வீரன் சூரபத்மன்.

“இனிச் செய்ய வேண்டியவை எவை எனக்
கனிவுடன் கூறுங்கள் எம் குலகுருவே!”

குரு நன்மைகளையே கூற வேண்டும்
குரு சுக்கிரர் இதற்கு ஒரு விதிவிலக்கு!

“பதியும், பசுவும் ஒன்றே! பாசம் பொய்!
மதியாதே வினையை, வினைப்பயனை!

ஆற்றும் வினைகளை அஞ்சாது ஆற்றுக!
அறம், மறம் என்பவை அறிவின்மையே;

மறு பிறப்பு என்பது ஒரு முழுப் பொய்!
பிறப்பில் தேவரையும் விஞ்சினாய் நீ!

நீயே பிரமன்! தேவர்கள் உன் பகைவர்கள்!
தீயோரை தண்டிப்பது செய்யத் தக்கதே!

தேவர் கோனைச் உடன் சிறைப்படுத்து!
தேவரை, முனிவரை, ஏவல் செய்வாய்.

கொலை, களவு, காமம் என்றவற்றை

2( # 10). SUKRA’S ADVICE.

Soorapadman was very pleased with the boons he has acquired from Lord Siva. He went back to his father the sage Kasyapa and asked, “Sir! what is to be done by me now?”

The sage told him to go to his kulaguru and seek his advice. Sukra was very happy to hear of the boons given by Lord Siva. He did not guide his king in the proper path. He created delusions by his wrong teachings.

“There is no difference between the god and the man. There is no rebirth after death. There is no such thing as karma palam for our actions. There is no such division as Dharma and Adharma.

You are now superior even to the devas! You realise that you are the Brahma now. All the Devas are your natural enemies. They need to be punished. Imprison Indra who keeps killing the asuras.

Make the Rushis your servants. You can do whatever you wish to do. You have the power and Siva’s protection. First of all go to the 1008 worlds of which you are the ruler now. Establish your rule there and then come back to me”

28d. கார்த்த வீர்யன்

தந்தான் வேதம் கற்ற அந்தணரிடம்,
தந்தையார் தந்த அந்தப் புத்தகத்தை.

“சங்கட சதுர்த்தி விரத விதிகள் இவை,
பங்கம் இல்லாமல் நடத்தித் தாருங்கள்!”

மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர் அந்த அந்தணர்கள்;
நெகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினர் கிருதவீர்யனிடம்;

“கரிமுகனுக்குப் பிரியமான விரதம் பற்றி
அறிந்திருக்கவில்லை நாங்கள் இதுவரை.

பிரமன் வகுத்த விதிமுறைகளின் பலனாக
விரதம் சந்ததியை அளித்திடும் அரசே!”

தொடங்கியது விரதம் ஒரு நன்னாளில்,
தொடர்ந்தது தடங்கல் இன்றி ஓராண்டு.

தானம் அளித்தான் பலவிதப் பொருட்களை;
தானம் அளித்தான் பதினாயிரம் பசுக்களை.

கருவுற்றாள் சுகந்தை வெகு விரைவில்,
திருமகன் தோன்றினான் சுகந்தையிடம்.

நல்ல காந்தியுடன் இருந்தது குழந்தை;
இல்லை கைகளும், கால்களும்! அந்தோ!

ஞானவிநாயகனைத் தொழுது பெற்றது
ஊனமுற்ற ஒரு குழந்தையையா? பாவம்!

குறையை நீக்குவான் இறைவன் என்று
குறையாத நம்பிக்கையுடன் இருந்தனர்.

தத்தாத்திரேயர் வந்தார் கிருதவீர்யனிடம்,
தவப் புதல்வனின் நிலையைக் கூறினான்.

“உன் மகனைக் காணவே வந்துள்ளேன்!
என்னிடம் எடுத்துவா உன் மகனை!” என

ஊனமுற்ற பாலகனைக் கொணர்ந்து,
ஞானமுனிவர் காலடியில் வைத்தான்.

“வெறும் குழந்தையல்ல உன் மகன்!
பிறந்துள்ளான் உன் வம்சம் விளங்க!”

ஏகாக்ஷரத்தை உபதேசித்தார் குழவிக்கு.
நாவாற அழைத்தார் கார்த்தவீர்யன் என!

#28d. Kaarthaveeryan

Kruthaveeryan gave the book of instructions to the learned brahmins and requested them to perform the chathurthi vratham as per the prescribed rules.

The brahmins were happy to learn about the vratham since they had never heard about it earlier. They were sure that the King and Queen would be blessed with a worthy son after observing the vratham.

The vratham was started on an auspicious day and continued for one year without any break or hurdles, as per the instructions. Kruthaveeryan donated many things and ten thousand milch cows as gift to brahmins.

The queen conceived immediately after the vratham. She delivered a male child in due course. The child was bright and brilliant but did not have either hands or legs. The king and queen were crestfallen that after performing the tough vratham they could get only a defective baby.

Dhaththaathreya came to meet the king. Kruthaveeryan told him the condition of his son. The sage wanted to have a look at the baby. He consoled the king,

“Do not feel sorry that your child is defective. He is not an ordinary child. He is born to bring glory to your race.'”

He taught the baby ekaaksharam and named him as Kaarthaveeryan.

4#8a. ச்யவன முனிவர்

நரசிம்ம மூர்த்தி அழித்து விட்டார் இரண்யனை;
பிரஹ்லாதனுக்குச் சூட்டப்பட்டது மணிமகுடம்.

செய்து வந்தான் நீதி நெறி தவறாத ஆட்சியினை;
செய்து வந்தனர் நாட்டு மக்கள் தம் கடமைகளை.

தீர்த்தமாட விரும்பினார் பிருகுவின் குமாரர்;
யாத்திரை சென்றார் அந்த ச்யவன முனிவர்;

தாண்டினார் குளித்துவிட்டு ரேவா நதியை;
தீண்டியது கொடிய விஷ நாகம் முனிவரை!

இழுத்துச் சென்றது பாதாள லோகத்துக்கு.
தொழுதார் ச்யவனர் பாம்பணைப் பிரானை.

விஷம் நீங்கிவிட்டது விமலன் அருளால்;
விஷ நாகமும் அஞ்சி விலகிச் சென்றது!

வரவேற்றனர் அன்போடு நாக லோகத்தினர்;
பிரஹ்லாதன் ஐயுற்றான் அவர் வருகையால்.

“வந்தது எப்படி நீங்கள் இந்த உலகத்திற்கு?
இந்திரன் அனுப்பினானா உண்மை கூறும்!”

“இந்திரனின் ஏவலன் அல்ல நான் அரசே!
இந்த உலகை விரும்பி நான் வரவில்லை!

பிருகு வம்சத்தைச் சேர்ந்த முனிவன் நான்;
பிரயாணம் செய்தேன் தீர்த்தமாட விரும்பி.

கொடிய விஷநாகம் ரேவா நதியிலிருந்து
கடித்து இழுத்து வந்து விட்டது என்னை.

விஷ்ணுவை வழி பட்டு உயிர் பிழைத்தேன்.
விஷ்ணு பக்தன் உன் தரிசனமும் கிடைத்தது.”

4#8a. Chyavana rushi

Narasimha moorthi killed the wicked HiraNyaakshan and Prahlaad his son was crowned as the new king. He ruled well and with justice. His citizens were happy and contented. They performed their duties responsibly.

Chyavana rushi, the son of Brugu Maharushi, wished to go on a theerta yaatra. When he took bath in the Reva river and tried to cross it, a poisonous snake bit him and dragged him down to paataala lokam.

Chyavana rushi prayed to VishNu and the deadly poison got nullified. The snake got frightened and left Chyavana alone.

The sage reached the land of Prahlaad. The citizens welcomed the sage with enthusiasm. But Prahlaad had his own doubts about the real reason behind the sage’s visit.

Prahlaad asked the sage Chyavana, “Tell me the truth sage! Did Indra send you here?” The sage replied.”I am not a servant or a messenger of Indra to be commanded by him thus. Nor did come to this land due to my love for it.

I belong to the vamsam of sage Brugu. I was on a theerta yaatra. In Reva river, a snake bit me and dragged me down here. I prayed to Vishnu and escaped with my life. I also got your darshan, since you are a staunch devotee of Vishnu”

11a. தத்துவங்கள்.

அறிவுத் தத்துவம் தோன்றும் மூல பிரகிருதியில்;
அஹங்காரத் தத்துவம் அதலிருந்து தோன்றும்;

அஹங்காரத்தில் இருந்து தோன்றும் ஐம்புலன்கள்;
அவற்றில் இருந்து தோன்றும் ஐம்பெரும் பூதங்கள்;

மண் தத்துவத்துக்கு விரிந்து பரந்து அமைந்துள்ளன
அண்டங்கள் ஓர் ஆயிரம் கோடி எண்ணிக்கையில்;

அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தும் பொன் நிறமுடையவை;
அண்டங்கள் ஆயிரத்தெட்டு உன்னுடையவை இன்று;

அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தின் இயல்பை அறிந்திட
அண்டம் ஒன்றின் இயல்பைக் கூறுகிறேன் நான்;

அண்டத்தின் அகலம் நூறு கோடி யோஜனை ஆம்;
அண்டத்தின் உயர்ச்சியும் நூறு கோடி யோஜனை;

Kanda Puraanam - Asura kaandam

2 ( # 11 a). A UNIVERSE.

Budhdhi thathva is born out of Moolap Prakruthi.

Ahankaara thathva is born out of Budhdhi thathva.

The five subtle elements are born out of ahankaaram.

Form these five subtle elements the five elements viz

aakaasam, vayu, agni, jalam and earth are born.

The earth exhibits itself as numerous universes.

They are ten thousand million universes in the cosmos.

Of these one thousand and eight belong to you.

If you know about one universe then you know about

every universe.

They are very much similar in every aspect.

The universe is golden in color.

It is eight thousand million miles high and equally wide.
