64 THIRU VILAIYAADALGAL
# 24 (A). LEARNING TO DANCE.
King Vikrama Paandiyan crowned his son Rajasekaran as his successor and reached the lotus feet of Lord Siva. King Rajasekaran was well versed in 63 forms of fine arts out of 64. He did not learn Bharata Nruthyam, as a mark of respect to Lord Siva.
The Chola kingdom was ruled by Karikaalan. He was well versed in all the 64 forms of fine arts.A poet told Rajasekaran that he was not a ‘master of all arts’ where as Karikaalan was!
Rajasekaran decided to learn the Bharata Nruthyam. He invited all the best teachers of his time. He paid them handsomely and learned Nruthyam.
He mastered the Navarasa, the 24 Abhinayas, the seven different thaalas and the five different gathis.
After each dance session he felt pain in all his limbs. He could not help wondering how much Lord Siva must be suffering since He had been standing on one leg for ages!
May be He would get some relief if He changed the position of His legs!
