KANDA PURAANM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

22. தக்கன் வழிபாடு

மெய்யுணர்வு வரப் பெற்றான் தக்கன்;
கை கூப்பி வணங்கினான் தந்தையை!

“சிவ வழிபாடு செய்கின்றேன் இப்போதே!”
பவம் ஒழிக்கும் காசி நகரை அடைந்தான்.

மணிகர்ணிகைக்கு அருகில் அமைத்தான்,
பணி அணி நாதனுக்கு அழகிய கோவில்.

பண்புடன் அமைத்தான் சிவலிங்கத்தை,
அன்புடன் தொழுதான் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்.

அன்புக்கு அடிமை அல்லவா நம் ஈசன்?
அன்புடன் வெளிப்பட்டான் தக்கன் முன்பு.

“ஆணவம் கொண்டு உம்மை இகழ்ந்தேன்.
பேண வேண்டிய பண்புகளைத் துறந்தேன்.

மருட்சி மீண்டும் வந்துவிடாதபடி எனக்கு
மாறாத அன்பைத் தந்தருள்வீர் ஐயனே!”

தக்கன் தூய்மை அடைந்து விட்டான்.
தலைவன் ஆனான் பூதக் கூட்டத்துக்கு!

திருமால், பிரமன், இந்திரன், வீரபத்திரர்
திரும்பிச் சென்றனர் தங்கள் இடங்களுக்கு.

இறைவழிபாடுகள் செய்து தம் உடலின்
ஊறுபாடுகளை அழித்து ஒழித்தனர்.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#22. Dakshan’s penance.

Dakshan understood the words of Brahma correctly and paid obeisance to him. He decided to worship Siva and went to Kasi. He constructed a beautiful temple near Manikarnikai. He established a sivalingam there and did penance for one thousand years.

Siva’s heart melted with mercy and he appeared before Dakshan who prayed to Him with devotion saying “I had become arrogant and conceited and lost the sense of right and wrong. Please bless me with unwavering bhakti towards you oh Lord!”

Dakshan had become pure and blemish-less now. He was made the leader of the army of Siva. Vishnu, Brahma, Indra and Veerabadran returned to their respective places. They too worshiped Siva and got out of their defects and demerits.

7#16d . விஸ்வாமித்திரர்


தானம், தவம், யாகம் செய்வார் பலர்;
தல யாத்திரை, பூஜை செய்வார் பலர்.

பரம பாதகன் மட்டுமே பொருளுக்காகத்
தருவான் தான் பெற்ற மகனையே பலியிட.

நாட்டு மக்கள் செய்யும் பாவச் செயல்களில்
நாட்டு மன்னனைச் சாரும் ஆறில் ஒரு பங்கு.

நல்ல அரசன் முயன்று தடுக்க வேண்டும் - தன்
பொல்லாத குடி மக்களின் பாவக் செயல்களை.

அழுகின்ற சிறுவனை விடுதலை செய்துவிடு;
பழி அடையாதே பாவச் செயல்கள் புரிந்து.

திரிசங்கு சண்டாளன் ஆனான் குரு சாபத்தினால்;
வெறி கொண்டான் உடலோடு சுவர்க்கம் போக.

அனுப்பினேன் அவனை சுவர்க்கத்துக்கு - அதை
அனுமதித்தது நான் சேர்த்த தவத்தின் வலிமை.

உனக்கும் நன்மையே சொல்வேன் கேள் மன்னா!
எனக்கு இந்தச் சிறுவன் வேண்டும் உயிரோடு.

தரவேண்டும் யாக சாலையில் கேட்ட பொருளை;
தர மறுத்தால் யாகம் பாழாகும்; பாவம் சேரும்!"என

"நோயின் கடுமை தாளாது செய்கின்றேன் யாகம்;
நோய் தீரும் இந்த யாகம் பூர்த்தியாகும் பொழுது!

தடையின்றித் தருவேன் வேறு எதையும் உமக்கு;
தடுக்காதீர்கள் முனிவரே இந்த யாகத்தை நடுவில்."

7#16d. Viswaamitra

Sage Viswamitra continued," Many persons give danam, do penance, yaagam and pooja. But this man is the only one who would sell his son to be sacrificed in a yagna.

One sixth of the sins committed by the citizens go to the ruler's account. So it is the duty of a just king to put a full stop to the sinful acts committed by his citizens.

Release the boy who is crying pathetically. Do not earn more sins by killing this innocent boy. King Trisanku became a chandaaLa by incurring the wrath of his guru. He was determined to reach heaven with his mortal body. I managed to send him to heaven using the power of my penance.

I wish for your welfare. I want this boy to live. I am asking for him as a daanam in this yaaga saalaa. You are bound to give anything anyone asks for here. Otherwise your yaagaa will be a total waste."

Harischandra said, "I have nothing personal against this boy. I am not able to bear the disease and discomfort anymore. That is why I am performing this yagna to get rid of them. Please ask for anything else and I shall happily give it to you. Kindly do not ruin my yagna"

23a. முருக வழிபாடு

எள்ளருஞ் சிறப்பின் மிக்க எழுவகை வாராந் தன்னுள்
வெள்ளிநாள் விரதம் தானே விண்ணவர் உலகம் காத்த
வள்ளல்தன் விரத மாகும் மற்றது புரிந்த மேலோர்
உள்ளமேல் நினைந்த எல்லாம் ஒல்லையின் முடியும் அன்றே.


முசுகுந்தன் சென்றான் வசிஷ்டரிடம்;
“முருகனுக்கு உரிய நோன்புகள் எவை?” என

“வெள்ளி கிழமை உகந்தது முருகனுக்கு;
உள்ளக் கிடைக்கைகள் நிறைவேறி விடும்.

வெள்ளிக் கிழமை நோன்பை மேற்கொண்டு
கள்ள அரக்கனை வென்றான் பகீரதன்.

கோரனைக் கொன்று இழந்த அரசை
நேராகப் பெற்றான் மீண்டும் பகீரதன்.

தேவ முனி நாரதர் விரும்பினார் தான்
ஏழு முனிவரிலும் மேன்மை அடைய.

ஆனைமுகனை வணங்கிக் கேட்டார்,
ஏனையோரிலும் உயர்த்தும் நோன்பை!

“கார்த்திகை நாள் விரதத்தை விடாமல்
கை பிடிப்பாய் பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்!”

நிலவுலகை அடைந்தார் நாரதமுனிவர்
நண்பகல் உணவு மட்டுமே பரணி நாளில்.

நீராடினார் விடியலில் கார்த்திகையன்று;
நிர்வகித்தார் ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கி.

உணவு வெறும் நீர்; படுக்கை நாணற்புல்;
உறக்கம் தவிர்த்துத் திருவடி தியானம்;

நீராடினார் ரோஹிணியில், பூசித்தபின்
அருந்தினார் உணவு பிற முனிவர்களுடன்.

பகல் முழுவதும் உறங்காமல் இருந்தார்.
பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் கார்த்திகை நோன்பு.

முடிவில் பெற்றார் தான் எண்ணியவாறு
முனிவர்களுக்கும் மேலான தன்மையை.

6#23a. Worshiping Murugan.

Muchukunthan went to Vasishtar and asked him, “Please tell me the nonbu observed for Murugan”

Vasishtar replied, “Friday is very auspicious to Murugan. Your prayers will be answered by the lord. Bageerathan defeated the treacherous asuran Ghoran and regained his kingdom because he performed the Friday puja.

Narada wanted to become superior to the sapta rushi. He went to Ganapathy and asked him how he could attain it. Ganapathy replied that observing the Kaarthigai nonbu continuously for twelve years would fulfill his heart’s desires.

Narada came to the earth. He ate only once on the Bharani day - prior to Kaarthigai day . On Kaarthigai day he bathed early. He controlled all his five senses. He drank only water and sat on kusa grass. He kept awake the whole night contemplating on Murugan.

On Rohini day, the day after Kaarthigai day, he bathed, did puja and ate food with the other rushis. To complete the nonbu one has to stay awake during the Rohini day.

Narada did this for twelve years and gained a position higher than that of the sapta rushis.

7#17a. "யார் என் தந்தை?"

கோபம் வந்தது மன்னன் மீது முனிவருக்கு!
பாவம் பிள்ளை அழுதான் மரண பயத்தால்!

சென்றார் சிறுவனிடம் விஸ்வாமித்திரர்;
"துன்பம் விலகும் வழி சொல்வேன் கேள்!

உபதேசிக்கிறேன் வருண ஜப மந்திரத்தை;
உச்சரிப்பாய் இதனை இடை விடாது" என

உபதேசம் பெற்றான் சுனச்சேபன் அவரிடம்;
உச்சரித்தான் வருண ஜபமந்திரத்தைத் விடாது.

தோன்றினான் மனம் கனிந்த வருண தேவன்;
தேற்றினான் அழும் பிள்ளையைக் கனிவோடு.

"யாகம் பூர்த்தி ஆகிவிட்டது இப்போது - எனவே
யாகப் பசுவுக்கு இப்போது விடுதலை" என்றான்.

தானே அவிழ்த்து விட்டான் கட்டியிருந்த கயிற்றை;
தானே நீக்கி விட்டான் மன்னனின் ஜலோதர நோயை.

ஜாண் பிள்ளை ஆனாலும் ஆண் பிள்ளை அல்லவா
விண்ணப்பித்தான் சிறுவன் அந்த அவையோரிடம்;

"யார் என் தந்தை என்று கூறுவீர் அவையோரே!
யார் என் தந்தையோ அவரே இனி எனக்கு கதி"

"ஆவாய் அஜீகர்தனின் மகன்" என்றனர் சிலர்.
"ஆனாலும் பெற்ற தந்தை அவன் அல்லவா ?"

"ஆவாய் மன்னன் அரிச்சந்திரனின் மகன் இனி நீ!
ஆனலும் விலை கொடுத்து வாங்கியவன் அவன்."

"ஆவாய் வருணனின் புதல்வன் இனிமேல் நீ!
அச்சத்தைப் போக்கியவன் அவன் அல்லவா?"

"அன்னமிட்டவனும், கல்வி தந்தவனும் தந்தை;
அச்சம் நீக்கியவனும் ஆவான் ஒருவனின் தந்தை.

மரண பயத்தை நீக்கியவன் வருண தேவன் - எனவே
மறு எண்ணம் வேண்டாம் வருணனே சிறுவன் தந்தை. "

7#17a. "Who is my father?"

Sage Viswaamitra became very angry. He walked to the boy bound to the sthambam and told him,

" Son! I know a way to evade this difficult situation. I shall teach you the Varuna japa mantra. Recite it non-stop with full devotion.You will come out of this difficult situation unscathed!"

The boy learned Varuna japa mantra and started chanting it with all his energy and concentration. Varuna Devan was very pleased by this and appeared in person in the yaaga saalaa.

He consoled the terror stricken boy chanting midst sobs and tears. Varuna Devan then said, "Now that the yaaga has been completed, the sacrificial animal is set free" He himself untied the boy from the pillar. He also cured the jalodaram of King Harischandra and disappeared from there.

The boy now asked a question loud and clear,"Oh wise men of this sabha! Please tell me who is my father now? I shall seek refuge in him"

There was a murmur in the yaaga saala since people expressed different opinions and and gave different reasons.

Some of them said,"Ajeegartan is the father. After all he was the man who fathered this boy". Some others said, " King Harischandra is the father since he had purchased the boy paying one hundred milch cows."

Yet others said," Varuna Devan is the father of this boy. He removed the terror of death from the boy's heart. Five types of people can be called the father of a boy - one who has fathered him, one who has purchased him, one who gave him food, one who gave him education and one who removed the fear from his heart.

There is no need to think any more since Varuna Devan is one who removed the fear from the heart of this boy and is the father of this boy now"

23b. முருகன் அருள்

கார்த்திகை நோன்பைச் செய்த அந்தணர்
பார் முழுவதும் ஆண்டார் முதல் மனுவாக.

கார்த்திகை நோன்பைச் செய்த அந்தணர்
விரும்பியதை அடையும் திரிசங்கு ஆனார்.

அரசனும், வேடனும் மற்றும் பலரும்
அரிய பலன்களை நோன்பால் பெற்றனர்.

ஐப்பசித் திங்கள் சுக்கிலப் பிரதமை முதல்
தப்பாமல் ஆறு நாட்களும் வழிபாடு செய்து

சஷ்டி நோன்பைக் கடைப் பிடித்தால்
இஷ்டமானவை எல்லாம் கிடைத்துவிடும்.

முசுகுந்தன் விழைந்தது முருகன் காட்சியை.
முறைப்படிச் செய்து வந்தார் விரதங்களை.

இளவல்களுடன் தோன்றினான் முருகன்;
“இவர்கள் துணை நிலத்தை ஆளத் தேவை!’

முருகன் பணித்தான் வீரபாகு முதலியோரை
“இருக்கக் கடவீர் மன்னனின் துணைவராக!”

மறுத்துப் பேசினார் இளவல்கள் முருகனிடம்.
“பிறப்பீர் சென்று மனிதர்களாக உலகினில்!

மன்னனின் படை வீரர்கள் ஆக வாழ்ந்து
பின்னர் வந்து அடைவீர் என்னை!”என்றான்.

கருவூர் நகரில் இருந்து கொண்டு
அரசு புரிந்தார் முசுகுந்த சக்கரவர்த்தி.

படைத் தலைவர்களாக நவகுமாரர்கள்;
அடைந்தான் மேன்மை அவர்களால்.

6#23b. The grace of Murugan.

Brahmin who observed the Kaarthigai nonbu became the first Manu. Another man who did the nonbu became Trisanku. Many people have reaped rare benefits by observing this nonbu.

In the month of Aippasi starting on the sukla paksha pradamai and doing puja for the six consecutive days will give the desired benefits. King of kings
Muchukunthan wished for the dharshan of Lord Murugan. Murugan appeared along with the navasakti kumaras.

The king requested Murugan,”I need the brave navsakti kumara’s help in ruling the world.” Murugan agreed to spare them but Veerabaahu objected to this plan.

Murugan got displeased and said, “You have disobeyed my wish. Now you will be born as human beings. You will serve the king well and then come back to me later on.”

Muchukunthan ruled from Karuvoor. The navasakti kumara were born as human beings and helped the king to rule the kingdom well.

7#17b. வசிஷ்டரின் தீர்ப்பு


"கூறுவேன் இப்போது வேத ரீதியாக நான்;
சிறுவனின் தந்தை உண்மையில் யார் என்று!

அன்பு உள்ளவனே ஒரு நல்ல தந்தை - மகனைப்
பொன்னுக்கு விற்பவன் அல்ல ஒரு நல்ல தந்தை.

விற்றதோடு நிற்கவில்லை அஜீகர்த்தன் - தான்
பெற்ற மகனையே வெட்டவும் துணிந்தான் அவன்.

அஜீகர்த்தன் அல்ல இந்தப் பிள்ளையின் தந்தை!
அரிச்சந்திரன் செய்ததைக் காண்போம் இனிமேல்.

விலைக்கு வாங்கினான் யாரோ பெற்ற மகனை;
இலட்சியம் அவனை யாகத்தில் பலி கொடுப்பது.

அன்பும், இரக்கமும் இல்லாத அரிச்சந்திரன்
ஆகமுடியாது இந்தச் சிறுவனின் தந்தையாக!

விடுதலை செய்தான் சிறுவனை வருண தேவன்;
விடுதலை செய்தது கொண்ட அன்பினால் அல்ல.

மகிழ்ந்தான் மானசீக பூஜையினால் வருணன்;
அவிழ்த்தான் கட்டுக்களை மன மகிழ்ச்சியால்.

ஆகமாட்டான் வருண தேவன் தந்தையாக;
ஆகமுடியும் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் தந்தையாக!

நாடினான் செல்வத்தை அஜீகர்த்தன்;
நாடினான் ரோகநிவர்த்தியை மன்னன்;

நாடினான் புகழ்ச்சியை வருண தேவன்;
நாட வில்லை எதையுமே விஸ்வாமித்திரர்.

உபதேசம் செய்தார் வருண மந்திரத்தை;
உயிரைக் காத்தார் அப்பாவி சிறுவனின்!"

ஒப்புக் கொண்டது சபை இந்தத் தீர்ப்பை!
தப்பாகுமா வசிஷ்ட முனிவரின் தீர்ப்பு?

7#17b. Vasishta's opinion

Sage Vasishta came forward to give his opinion in this matter. He said, "I shall answer this question with the help of Veda saastraas. I shall tell you who can be considered as the father of this boy now.

A father must have love for his offspring. A father who is willing to sell his son for wealth and also is ready to kill him with his own hands can never be his father!

King Harischandra bought the boy paying well. But his aim was not to bring up the child well but to offer him in the yaagaa in the palce of an animal. He can never be the father of this boy since he had neither love nor sympathy for this boy.

Varuna Devan untied the boy and set him free. It is because he was pleased with the devotion of the boy and the chanting of Varuna Japa mantra. So he too can't be a father to this boy.

Ajeegartan wanted wealth. Harischandran wanted to get rid of his disease. Varuna Devan wanted to be praised and hailed. But Viswaamitra did not want anything from the boy.

Viswaamitra can be considered as the father of child. His heart was filled with love and sympathy for a poor lad. He did the Varuna japa mantra upadesam willingly and saved the boy's life."

Everyone agreed to this opinion! "How can the opinion of Vasishta be wrong?"

23c. வலனை வெல்லுதல்

விண்ணுலகம் ஏகிப் போர் செய்தான்
வலன் என்னும் வலிய அவுணன்.

விண்ணுலக வேந்தன் நாடினான்
மண்ணுலக வேந்தனின் உதவியை.

படைவீரருடன் அரசன் முசுகுந்தன்
அடைந்தான் இந்திரன் பட்டணத்தை.

அவுணரைக் கொன்றான் முசுகுந்தன்.
அமரர்கோன் வலனைக் கொன்றான்.

சிறப்புக்கள் பல செய்தான் இந்திரன்,
திறம்படப் போர் புரிந்த மன்னனுக்கு.

திருமால் அளித்திருந்த ஒரு பதுமை
திருக்கயிலைக் காட்சியாக இருந்தது.

சிவனைப் புகழ்ந்தான் முசுகுந்தன்.
சிவன் கனிந்து அவனிடம் சொன்னான்,

“உன்னுடன் கொண்டு சென்று வழிபடு!”
மன்னன் ஆனான் சிவனின் அடிமையாக!

பரிசுகள் பல பெற்றபோதும் முசுகுந்தன்
அரிய பதுமையையே பெற விழைந்தான்.

“தந்தவர் எனக்குத் திருமால் எனவே
தருவேன் நான் அவர் சம்மதித்தால்!”

திருமாலும் சம்மதம் தரவே, மனம்
வருந்தினான் இந்திரன் அதைப் பிரிய.

ஆறு வடிவங்கள் ஒரு போலச் செய்து
அளித்தான் அவற்றை முசுகுந்தனிடம்.

பெருமான் அருளால் உண்மை அறிந்து
பெற மறுத்தான் பதுமைகளை மன்னன்.

இந்திரன்,"மனம் போல பூஜை செய்!" எனத்
தந்தான் தன் பதுமைகள் அனைத்தையும்.

6#23c. Defeating Valan.

Valan was a valorous asuran. He fought with Indra who could not defeat him. Indra sought the help of the king Muchukundan who had the nava sakti kumaras as his army heads.

Muchukundan and his warriors defeated and killed Valan and his army. Indra was very pleased and honored Muchukundan in many ways.

Indra had in his possession a vigraha of Siva as he would appear in Kailash. Muchukundan fell in love with that and became a devotee of Siva.

Siva told him,”Take me with you to the earth”

Even though Indra conferred on him many gifts, Muchukundan wished only for the vigraha of Siva. Indra was unwilling to part with it.

He laid one condition,”This was given to me by Vishnu. If he agrees to let you have this, I will give it to you”

Muchukundan got Vishnu’s consent. Now Indra had no other excuse. Still he created six vigrahas identical to the one Muchukundan wanted and told him to pick out the right one. Muchukundan did not accept any of those fake moorthis.

Finally Indra gave away all the six fake moorthis along with the original one to Muchukundan.

7#17c. முனிவர்களின் பந்தயம்

விச்வாமித்திரருடன் சென்றான் சுனச்சேபன்;
விவரம் அறிந்து திரும்பினான் லோகிதாசன்.

பிராண ஆபத்து நீங்கிவிட்டது அல்லவா?
பிரேமையுடன் வந்தான் தந்தையைக் காண.

வரவேற்றான் அரிச்சந்திரன் ஆதரவுடன்;
நரமேத யாகம் குறித்துக் கூறினான் அவன்.

விரும்பிச செய்தான் ராஜசூய யாகம் - குல
குருவுக்குத் தந்தான் பல அரிய பரிசுகளை.

இந்திரனின் சபைக்குச் சென்றார் வசிஷ்டர்.
இந்திரன் சபைக்கு சென்றார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர்.

வியந்தார் அரிய பரிசுகளை வசிஷ்டரிடம் கண்டு!
வினவினார் " உமக்கு இவற்றைத் தந்தவர் யார்?"

"தந்தான் அரிச்சந்திரன் அரிய பரிசுகளை!
தந்தான் குலகுரு என்னை கௌரவிப்பதற்கு!

உண்மையே பேசுபவன் அரிச்சந்திரன் - தன்னை
அண்டினோருக்கு அள்ளித் தருவதில் வள்ளல்.

இருந்ததில்லை இது போன்ற அரசன் உலகினில்!
இருக்கப் போவதுமில்லை இது போன்ற அரசன்! "

புகழ்ந்தார் அரிச்சந்திரனை வசிஷ்டர் வானளாவாக.
புகழ்ச்சி பிடிக்கவில்லை விஸ்வாமித்திர முனிவருக்கு

"அரிச்சந்திரன் ஒரு நயவஞ்சகன் என்று அறிவேன்;
நரமேத யாகம் செய்யவில்லை வருண தேவனுக்கு!

அஞ்சாமல் பொய் சொல்வதில் நிகரற்றவன் அவன்;
வஞ்சகத்தில் ஐயமின்றித் தலை சிறந்தவன் அவன்.

பொய்யன் ஆக்குகின்றேன் அவனைப் பரீட்சித்து
மெய்யுருவம் வெளிப்படும் அப்போது கண்கூடாக.

வைக்கின்றேன் பந்தயமாக என் தவப்பயனை!
வைக்கின்றேன் பந்தயமாக என் புண்ணியத்தை!

வைக்கின்றேன் பந்தயமாக சாஸ்திர ஞானத்தை!
வையும் பந்தயமாக நீரும் இதைப் போலவே!

தோற்பவர் இழப்பர் இவை அனைத்தையும்!
தோற்கவே மாட்டேன் நான் இந்தப் பந்தயத்தில்."

7#17c. The wager between the sages!

Sunahsepha went away with Sage Viswaamitra. Lohidaasan came to know of these happenings and returned to his father - now that the imminent danger threatening his life had been removed.

King Harischandra was happy to see his long lost son and told him all about the Nara medha yaagam and other things that had happened.

Now that the prince had returned safely, Harischandra wanted to perform Raajsooya Yaagaa. He made his guru Vasishta as the hota or the performer of the yaagaa.

The yaagaa was completed in a grand scale. Pleased with his guru, Harischandra showered rare gifts on sage Vasishta.

One day Vasishta went to the durbar of Indra. On the same day Viswaamitra also went to the durbar of Indra. he was impressed by the rare articles in the possession of Vasishta and asked him who had given them to him.

Vasishta elaborated very proudly ,"King Harischandra gave these to me to honour me after he performed the Raaja sooya yaagam. He speaks nothing but the truth!

He showers gifts and wealth on everyone who approaches him. There has never been a king in the history of the world as great as Harischandra. There will never be one more like him!"

Vasishta praised king Harischandra sky-high! Sage Viswaamitra did not relish listening to the praise and retorted,

"I know that king Harischandra is a duper and a cheat. He promised to perform Nara meda yaagam to Varuna Devan and cheted him without performing it. He does not bat an eyelid while telling a lie. He is treacherous and cunning. I shall prove that he is a lier of the highest order. You will see his real swaroopam then!

I wager the fruits of my hard penance, I wager all my punya earned so far. I wager all the knowledge of saastraas I have gathered so far. You too wager all your merits in the same way. The man who loses in the wager loses all. I am sure I will not get defeated in this wager!"

23d. முக்தி அடைதல்

திருமால் வழிபட்ட பதுமையை மன்னன்
திருவாரூரில் அமைத்து வழிபட்டான்.

பிற சிவத் தலங்களில் அமைத்தான்
பிற வடிவங்களை ஆகம முறைப்படி.

திருவாரூரில் தியாகராச பெருமானுக்குத்
சிறப்புறச் செய்தான் திருவிழாக்கள் பற்பல.

இறையின் வடிவைத் தந்ததால் இந்திரன்
புலை வடிவு பெற்றுப் பின் நீங்கினான்.

ஆண்டான் நிலவுலகை முசுகுந்தன்;
ஆளச் செய்தான் அக்கினி வர்மனை.

அக்கினி வர்மனுக்குப் படைவீரர்களாக
அமைந்தனர் நூற்று எண்மரின் புதல்வர்.

உக்கிர தவம் செய்து விரும்பியபடியே
மிக்க மகிழ்வுடன் அடைந்தனர் பதவி.

திருக் கயிலை அடைந்தான் முசுகுந்தன்.
திரும்பினர் திருமுருகனிடம் இளவல்கள்.

#23d. The liberation.

Muchukundan established the vigraha given by Vishnu to Indra and by Indra to him in Thiruvaaror. He established the other vigrahas in the other Sivakshethrams. Many festivals and pujas were performed by Muchukundan.

Indra became a pulaiyan (சண்டாளன்) since he had given away God’s statue. Later he regained his form. Muchukundan ruled well for a long time. Then he made his son Agni Varman the new ruler. The valorous sons of the one hundred and eight warriors now served Agni varman. The king as well the nava sakthi kumara did severe penance.

Muchukunthan reached Sivalokam and The navasakti kumaras returned to Murugan.

7#18a. வன வேட்டை

வேட்டைக்குச் சென்றான் அரிச்சந்திரன் - அங்கே
வேதனையுடன் அழும் பெண்ணைக் கண்டான்.

"யார் நீ? ஏன் அழுகின்றாய்? என்ன உன் துன்பம்?
கூறு இவற்றை! தண்டிப்பேன் அவனை" என்றான்.

"பேதை என்னை முன்னிட்டு விஸ்வாமித்திரர்
கோரத் தவம் செய்வதே காரணம்!" என்றாள்.

சென்றான் விஸ்வாமித்திரரிடம் அரிச்சந்திரன்;
"துன்பம் விளைவிக்கும் தவம் செய்யலாகாது.

நோக்கம் என்ன என்னிடம் கூறும் முனிவரே !
ஊக்கத்துடன் நிறைவேற்றுவேன் அவற்றை!"

சினம் மூண்டது விஸ்வாமித்திரரின் மனதில் - தான்
தினம் செய்யும் தவத்தைக் குலைகின்றானே என்று.

ஆக்கினார் ஓர் அரக்கனைப் பெரிய பன்றியாக;
அனுப்பினார் அதனை அரசனின் தோட்டத்துக்கு.

தினவெடுத்த பன்றி சென்றது தோட்டத்துக்கு;
வனத்தைப் பாழ் செய்து நாசம் ஆக்கிவிட்டது.

கொல்ல முடியவில்லை; விரட்ட முடியவில்லை
சொல்ல விரைந்தனர் அரிச்சந்திர மன்னனுக்கு.

அட்டஹாசம் செய்திருந்தது அசுரப் பன்றி!
அதிகச் சினம் அடைந்தான் அரிச்சந்திரன்.

அம்புகள் எய்தான் வம்பு செய்த பன்றியின் மீது.
தும்பைவிட்டு விட்டு வாலைப் பிடித்தது போல!

துள்ளி ஓடியது தப்பி விட்ட பன்றி விரைந்து.
துரத்திச் சென்றான் அதனை வெகு நேரம்.

வழி தவறி விட்டது அரிச்சந்திரனுக்கு - ஒரு
செழிப்பான நதியில் தாக விடாய் தீர்ந்தான்;

வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் கிழ அந்தணனாக;
வந்த விவரத்தைக் கேட்டறிந்தார் அவனிடம்.

" துரத்தி வந்தேன் பன்றியை விரட்டியபடி.
மறைத்து விட்டது தான் இருக்கும் இடத்தை.

பிரிந்து விட்டேன் என் படையிடமிருந்து!
திரும்பிச் செல்லவும் தெரியவில்லை வழி!

காட்டுங்கள் வழியை அயோத்தி சென்றிட;
ஈட்டுங்கள் பரிசினை மனம் விரும்பியபடி. "

7#18. The hunting expedition

Harischandran went on a hunting expedition. He saw a young beautiful woman in tears. He asked her the reason for her sorrow. She replied," Sage Viswaamitra is doing a severe penance and I suffer as a resut of that"

Now the king went to Viswaamitra and said, "No one in my country should suffer. Please do not do severe penance so as to cause pain or suffering to anyone here."

The sage got angry with the foolish king who was meddling with his daily schedule. He created a wild boar out of an asuran and sent it to the royal garden.

The boar ruined the garden and uprooted the trees and plants. It made a mess of the whole place. The sodlier guarding the garden could neither kill it not drive it away. They ran to report it to the king.

The king Harischandra rushed to the garden and went mad with anger at the sight that greeted him there. He shot several arrows at the big boar.

But the boar was agile and cunning. It shook off his arrows easily. It made him chase it all over the land and finally hid itself somewhere.

By now Harischadra had got lost in the forest and also separated from his soldiers. He felt thirsty, hungry, tired and defeated. He then saw a stream of fresh water.

He quenched his thirst and was wondering how to get back to his palace before the night fell. Disguised Viswaamitra arrived there as an old Brahmin. He asked the king the purpose of his visit.

The king told him everything that had happened and added, "If you will show me the way to get out of here, I shall shower on you anything your fancy"

24a. வள்ளியம்மை.

மலை ஒன்று உண்டு தொண்டை நாட்டில்;
மலையை ஒட்டிய சிற்றூரில் வேடர்கள்;

நம்பி வேடர்களின் நல்ல தலைவன்;
நம்பி விழைந்தான் பெண் மகவை.

சிவ முனிவர் தவம் செய்திருந்தார்
சிவ பெருமானிடம் மனம் லயித்து!.

வள்ளி மலையில் ஒரு புள்ளி மான்
துள்ளி விளையாடியது மனம் போல்.

முருகன் திருவருளால் அங்கு வந்து
முனிவரின் கண் முன்னர் ஊலவியது

மானைக் கண்டதும் காமம் பிறந்தது!
மானை நோக்கினார் கிளர்ச்சியுடன்.

கருவுற்றது கண் பார்வையில் மான்!
கருவினுள் புகுந்தாள் சுந்தரவல்லி.

வள்ளிக் கிழங்கு அகழ்ந்த குழியில்
வள்ளிக் குழவியை ஈன்றது மான்.

மரவுரி, குண்டலம், தொடி, வளை;
தரித்து இருந்தாள் சுந்தரவல்லி.

பூர்வ ஜன்ம நினைவுகள் இல்லை!
ஆர்வம் மட்டும் முருகன் மேலே !

மனிதக் குழந்தையைக் கண்ட மான்
மருண்டு ஓடிவிட்டது அதை விட்டு.

குழந்தையின் அழுகுரல் கேட்ட நம்பி
குழம்பினான் பின்னர் ஆராய்ந்தான்.

குழந்தையைக் கண்டதும் எடுத்து
குதூகலத்துடன் தந்தான் மனைவிக்கு.

ஆடிப் பாடித் தம் வீட்டை அடைந்தனர்
தேடி வந்த திருமகளைக் கொண்டாடி.

வள்ளிக் கிழங்குக் குழியில் கிடைத்து
வள்ளியாக வளர்ந்தாள் சுந்தரவல்லி.

பாலூட்டித் தாலாட்டி வளர்த்தனர்
பன்னிரண்டு வயதும் நிறைந்தது!

6#24a. Valli

Valli malai was a mountain in Thondai Nadu. In a village adjacent to the mountain, the hunters lived happily. Nambi was their leader. He was good and kind to everyone and desired for a daughter more than anything in the world!

Siva rushi was doing penance in the Valli malai concentrating on Siva. A beautiful doe played nearby without any fear. When the rushi looked at the beautiful doe, he was filled with lust and he stared at the doe.

The doe became pregnant by his mere glance and delivered a baby in the pit from which the Valli tubers had been dug out.

The doe got frightened to see a human baby girl and ran away. The bay had a few ornaments and was dressed like a tapasvini.

It was Sundaravalli reborn. She did not remember her past birth but her love for Murugan remained as fresh as ever.

The baby started crying. Nambi heard the cry of new born baby. He was more than happy to see the beautiful child whom he presented to his wife. They sang, danced and went home happily.

Sundaravalli was named as Valli since she was found in the pit of the Valli tubers. She grew well under their loving care and became twelve years of age.

7#19a. தானமும், தக்ஷிணையும்

அந்தணன் கூறினான் அரிசந்திரனிடம் ,
"இந்தத் தருணம் தர்ப்பணத்துக்குரியது.

புனித நதியில் நீராடு முதலில் - பின்னர்
புண்ணியம் தேடு எனக்குத் தானம் தந்து.

காட்டுவேன் தலை நகர் செல்லும் வழியை,
கோட்டை வரைத் துணையாக வருகிறேன்!"

ஆற்றில் நீராடிய அரிச்சந்திரன் கேட்டான்,
"சாற்றுங்கள் தாங்கள் விரும்பும் பரிசினை."

"சூரிய வம்சத்தின் கொடை வள்ளல் எனக்
கூறியுள்ளார் என்னிடம் வசிஷ்டர் ஒருமுறை.

புரிய வேண்டும் குமாரனுக்குத் திருமணம்
அரிய பொன் பொருள் தந்து உதவுவாய்!"

"ஏற்பாடு செய்யுங்கள் திருமணத்துக்கு
பிற்பாடு தருகிறேன் பொன் பொருளை!"

தவ வலிமையால் உண்டாக்கினார் முனிவர்
தக்க பருவம் உடைய மகனை, மணமகளை.

சத்தியம் செய்தான் மன்னன் அரிச்சந்திரன்,
"நிச்சயம் தருவேன் நீர் கோரும் பரிசுகளை."

அழைத்துச் சென்றார் அயோத்திக்கு வழி காட்டி;
"பிழைத்தேன் நான்!" என்றான் நன்றி உணர்வுடன்.

மாயப் புத்திரனுக்குச் செய்தார் விவாஹம்!
"மன்னா! மணமக்களுக்குப் பரிசு தா!" என

"என்ன வேண்டும் கேளுங்கள் அந்தணரே !
சொன்னதும் தந்து விடுவேன் உமக்கு அதை.

புகழை விரும்புபவன் நான் அதனால் அந்தப்
புகழுக்காகச் செய்வேன் எதையும்! "என்றான்

7#19a. The Gift and the Dakshina (1)

The old brahmin told Harischandra, "This time is auspicious for performing pitru tharpaNam. So take bath in this holy river and then give rich donation to me for earning punya! I shall show you the way and also accompany you to your capital city."

Harischandran felt happy that he met a good Samaritan willing to help him. The king bathed in the river and then asked the Brahmin,"Please tell me which gift you wish to recieve from me."

The brahmin said, "Already sage Vasishta had praised about you sky high. I know that you are very liberal with your gifts. I have son to be married today. I wish for enough wealth to perform it grandly."

The king said, "Please make the arrangements and come again. I shall shower my gifts on you.

Viswaamitra created a groom and a bride by the power of his penance and showed them to the king.

Now King Harischandra swore to give anything the brahmin demanded as the wedding gift.

The brahmin lead him back safely to his city and took leave of him. Later the wedding was celebrated to the virtual couple created by power of Maayaa.

The brahmin went to the king and reminded of his promise. King Harischandra said,"Just name what you want and it shall be yours. I crave for a good name and fame. I shall part with anything to gain a good name and fame."

24b. தினைப்புனம்

தினைப்புனம் காக்கச் சென்றாள் வள்ளி,
திருவருள் புரியக் காலமும் கனிந்தது!

கந்த வெற்பை நீங்கினான் கந்தக் கடவுள்;
வந்து விட்டான் திருத்தணிகை மலைக்கு.

வந்தார் நாரதமுனி தினைப் புனத்தருகே,
கண்டார் வள்ளியைத் தினைப் புனத்தில்!

விண்டார் முருகனிடம் சென்று அழகினை!
திண்ணம் அருள் செய்யத் தருணம் எனவே.

கள்ள வேடனாக வந்தான் தினைப் புனம்,
வள்ளியிடம் காம மயக்கம் கொண்டான்.

இன்ப உரைகள் ஆடினான் அவளிடம்,
மன்மத பாணங்கள் பாய்ந்தன அங்கே!

இசைக் கருவிகள் ஒலிக்க வந்தான் நம்பி.
இன்ப உரைகள் தடைபட்டு விட்டன!

வேங்கை மரமாக மாறினான் முருகன்
மங்கையின் அருகே புதிய வேங்கை!

தேனும் தினை மாவும் தந்தனர் வேடர்;
வேங்கை மரத்தை ஆராய்ந்தனர் வேடர்.

வெட்ட விரும்பினாலும் வேங்கையை
வெட்டாமல் சென்றுவிட்டனர் வேடர்.
