KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#24g. The resurrection.

Valli became very sad to see all her kin and kith dropping dead. Murugan went out of the garden. Valli followed him. Narada appeared there and told them, “All the dead people must be brought back to life.”

They all returned to the garden, Murugan told Valli,”You may tell them to come back to life!”

Valli said, “All those who have fallen dead please come back to life!”

Everyone of them came back to life. Everyone was happy.The handsome hunter revealed his true identity. The other hunters were very pleased.

They begged Murugan to get married in their village and Murugan obliged. Narada accompanied them to the village.

When Murugan gazed at Valli lovingly, her form as the daughter of a hunter transformed to that of a Goddess. Narada performed the wedding ceremony.

Siva, Uma, Vishnu, Brahma and Indra came along with the other Deva. They all threw the auspicious yellow rice blessing the newly married couple.

7#21c. சந்திரமதியின் யோசனை (3)

சிந்தனையுடன் இருந்தாள் சந்திரமதி சிறிது நேரம்.
வந்தனையுடன் கூறினாள் அரிச்சந்திரனிடம் பிறகு.

"யாசகம் பெறுவதற்கு மனம் ஒப்பவில்லை எனில்
யாசகம் பெறவேண்டிய தேவையும் இல்லை நாதா!

மனைவி ஆனேன் உமக்கு அக்கினி சாக்ஷியாக;
மனைவி கணவனின் சொத்து என்பது உண்மை.

உரிமையுண்டு என்னைக் கட்டுப்படுத்துவதற்கு!
உரிமையுண்டு என்னை விலைக்கு விற்பதற்கும்!

விற்று விடுங்கள் என்னை நல்ல விலைக்கு!
பெற்றுக் கொடுங்கள் அதை தக்ஷிணையாக!"

புலம்பினான் இதைக் கேட்ட அரிச்சந்திரன்;
அலமந்தான் செய்வது அறியாமல் மீண்டும்.

தொடர்ந்தாள் தன் ஆலோசனையை சந்திரமதி
இடர் வந்தபோதும் மனத் துணிவை இழக்காமல்.

"செய்து தான் ஆகவேண்டும் இதை நாதா!
செய்யாது போனால் விளையும் விபரீதம்!

தக்ஷிணை தராவிட்டால் சபிப்பார் முனிவர்;
ரக்ஷிப்பதற்கு யார் உளர் இப்போது நமக்கு?

நீசனாகிவிடுவீர்கள் முனிவர் சபித்தால்!
ஏசுவார் பிறர் என அஞ்ச வேண்டாம் நீர்!

விற்கவில்லை நீர் என்னை மது அருந்துவதற்கு!
விற்கவில்லை நீர் என்னை அரசியல் லாபத்துக்கு!

விற்கவில்லை நீர் என்னை அதிக இன்பம் தேடி!
விற்கின்றீர் நீர் தக்ஷிணைப் பொன் பெறவேண்டி !

விற்கின்றீர் என்னைச் சொன்ன சொல் காப்பதற்கு!
விற்கின்றீர் முனிவரின் தக்ஷிணையைத் தருவதற்கு!

விற்பதால் வராது எந்த அவப் பெயரும் உமக்கு!
விற்பதால் வரும் அழியாத புகழ் ஒன்றே உமக்கு!"

7#21c. Chandramati's suggestion (3)

Chandramati was immersed in deep thoughts for some time and spoke again.

"If you are against accepting daanam, there is no need to do it. I became your wife in the presence of Agni. I belong to you. You have every right over me to do anything you deem fit. You can control me. You may even sell me for money. Please sell me for a good price and pay sage Viswaamitra his dhakshiNa"

Harischandran was helpless and torn asunder by his love for his wife and his dire need of money.

Chandramati cintinued,"You will have to do this. We have no other choice. If you do not pay the sage his DakshiNa he will surely curse you and you will become a fallen man.

Do not fear that world will comment on this and criticize it. You are not selling me to buy intoxicating wines or for political benefits or for seeking more pleasure.

You are selling me to keep up your promise, to get money for DakshiNa and to pay the sage his dues. You will not incur any sin or earn ill fame by this act. In fact your prestige will increase since you value your promise more than your personal relationship."

24h. திருத்தணிகை

“வள்ளியுடன் உறைவேன் தணிகையில்”
வள்ளிக் கணவன் உரைத்தான் நம்பியிடம்.

வள்ளி விடைபெற்றாள் தன் தோழியரிடம்.
வள்ளியும் முருகனும் அடைந்தனர் தணிகை.

திருத் தணிகையின் சிறப்பினை முருகன்
விருப்பத்துடன் வள்ளிக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தான்.

“சூரபத்மனோடு செய்த போரிலும் பின்னர்
வீர வேடுவர்களோடு நான் செய்த போரிலும்

பெருகிய சினம் இங்கு முற்றும் தணிந்ததால்
செறுத்தணி ஆகித் திருத்தணி ஆனது இது.

மலர்களில் மிகச் சிறந்தது தாமரை மலர்.
மலைகளில் மிகச் சிறந்தது செறுத் தணி

நதிகளில் மிகவும் சிறந்தது கங்கை நதி
பதிகளில் மிகவும் சிறந்தது காஞ்சியம்பதி

திருக் கயிலையில் உறைவான் ஈசன்
திருத் தணிகையில் உறைவேன் நான்

இச் சுனையில் நான் தினம் அணிவதற்கு
இந்திரன் உண்டாக்கினான் குவளை மலர்.

காலை, நண்பகல், மாலை என்று அவை
காலம் தவறாமல் மலரும் எந்த நாளும்.

ஐந்து நாட்கள் இங்கு தங்கி வழிபட்டால்
வந்து சேரும் விரும்பிய பேறுகள் எல்லாம்.

அறச் செயல்கள் பல்கிப் பயன் அளிக்கும்
மறச் செயல்கள் தேய்ந்து மறைந்து விடும்”

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#24h. Thiruth thanigai.

Murugan told Nambi,”I will be in Thiruth thanigai with Valli”. Valli took leave of her friends.They reached Thiruth thanigai. Murugan explained to Valli the greatness of that sthalam,

“My anger fueled by the wars with Soorapadman and the group of the hunters got reduced in this place. So it was called seruth thani( reduction of anger).

Lotus is the best among flowers. Thiruththani is the best among mountains. Ganges is the best among rivers, Kanchipuram is the best among kshethrams. Siva prefers to live on Mount Kailas and I prefer to live on this mountain.

Indra had arranged for the water lilies to bloom everyday to adorn me during the morning, noon and evening. These flowers will always bloom without fail.

If a person spends five days here in doing worship he will get all he desires.
The good deeds performed here multiply their good effects and bad deeds become less evil.”

7#22a. மனைவியை விற்றான்

அரிச்சந்திரன் கூறினான் நகர மக்களிடம்,
"இருக்கிறாள் இந்தப் பெண் விற்பனைக்கு!

விலையாகத் தருவதைத் தரலாம் எவரேனும்;
வேலைக்காரியாக அழைத்துச் செல்லலாம்!"

வியந்தனர் நகர மக்கள் இதைக் கண்டு.
"நீ யார் இவளை விற்பதற்கு?" என்றனர்.

வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் கிழ அந்தணராக!
"தந்து விடு இவளை எனக்கு அடிமையாக!

சரிவரப் பணி செய்வதில்லை என் மனைவி!
சரிப்படுவாள் இவள் பணிகள் செய்வதற்கு.

தருகிறேன் ஒரு கோடி பொன்னை விலையாக;
பெறுவாள் இவள் அத்தனை பொற் காசுகளை!"

விக்கித்து நின்றான்அரிச்சந்திரன் இதைக் கேட்டு.
திக்பிரமை நீடித்ததால் பேசினான் அந்தணன்.

"நல்ல குணங்கள், முப்பது இரண்டு லக்ஷணங்கள்,
நன்னடத்தையுள்ளவள் பெறுவாள் கோடிப் பொன்!"

கொட்டினான் பொற்காசுகளை கிழ வேதியன்;
இட்டுச் செல்ல முயன்றான் கூந்தலைப் பற்றி!

"மகனிடம் விடை பெறவேண்டும்!" என்றாள்.
மகனிடம் அழுதாள் தலைவிதியை எண்ணி .

அணைக்க வந்த மகனிடம் சொன்னாள் அவள்,
"அணைக்காதே என்னை! நான் ஒரு அடிமை!"

தடுக்க முடியவில்லை லோகிதாசனை - ஆடை
தடுக்கி விழுந்தான் லோகிதாசன் தரையில்.

துரத்த முயன்றார் லோகிதாசனைக் கிழ வேதியர்;
துரத்தவே முடியைல்லை கன்றாகத் தொடர்பவனை.

7#22a. The queen was sold!

Harischandran announced to the citizen of Kaasi," Hear!hear! Here this woman is for sale. Anyone can buy her paying her worth in gold. Anyone can take her home as his maid servant"

The people of Kaasi were surprised by this kind of human purchase. They asked him, " Who are you to sell this woman?"

Viswaamitra hurried there in the guise of an old brahmin. He told Harischandra, "I shall buy her as my servant. My wife is very old and unable to do the household chores. This woman can do them instead of her. I am ready to pay one crore (ten million) gold coins as her price."

Harischandra was shocked and stood like a statue. The old brahmin told him,

"This woman is worth that price. She is good-natured. She has all the thirty two lakshanas of a woman and has good conduct. So ten million gold coins the price fixed by the saastraas for such a woman."

The old brahmin poured the gold coins in front of Harischandra and tried to pull his wife away by holding her hair. Chandramati wanted to take leave of her only son and asked the old brahmin's permission to do so.

Her son tried to hug her but she told him,"You can't embrace me son. I am a slave now!" But her son could not be stopped from following her like a calf following a cow. He tripped on her clothes and fell down on the ground.

24i. கந்தவெற்பு

கந்த வெற்பு சென்றான் வள்ளியுடன்,
வந்து வணங்கினாள் தெய்வயானை.

வள்ளியைக் கண்டதும் வியந்தாள்.
“வள்ளியின் வரலாற்றைக் கூறுங்கள்!”

“திருமாலின் திருக் குமரிகள் இருவர்,
திருமணம் செய்யவிரும்பினர் என்னை.

அமிர்தவல்லி, சுந்தரவல்லி இருவரும்
அருந்தவம் செய்தனர் முற்பிறப்பில்.

அமிர்தவல்லி அமரர்கோன் மகள் நீ!
சுந்தரவல்லி நம்பியின் மகள் வள்ளி.

தவம் பலித்தது; மணம் புரிந்தேன் நான்
தேவராஜன், நம்பிராஜன் பெண்களை!”

உடன் பிறந்தவர்கள் என்று அறிந்து
உடன் ஆரத் தழுவிக் கொண்டனர்.

கந்த வெற்பில் விளங்கினான் இரு
காதல் மனைவியருடன் கந்தபிரான்.

6#24i. Kanda Verppu.

Murugan went to Kanda verpu with Valli. Devayaani was surprised to see the beautiful Valli. She wanted to know the life history of Valli.

Murugan told her, “Vishnu’s two daughter Amirthavalli and Sundaravalli wished to marry me and did severe penance. Amirthavalli is you Devayaani and Sundaravalli is this Valli. You prayers have been answered and I have married both of you”

The two sisters embraced each other with great affection. Kandan lived in Kanda verpu with his beautiful wives.

24j. முடிவுரை


தினம் தவறாமல் இந்தக் கந்தபுராணத்தைப் படித்தவர்களுக்கு
மனம் விரும்பும் எல்லா நலன்களும் உறுதியாகக் கிடைக்கும்.

ஆனைமுகன் வாழ்க! வாழ்க! ஆறுமுகன் வாழ்க! வாழ்க!
அகில உலகின் அன்னையும், தந்தையும் வாழ்க! வாழ்க!

அடியவர்கள் வாழ்க! அவர்கள் குடும்பத்தினர்கள் வாழ்க!
அனைத்து உலகமும் அமைதியாக வாழ்க! வாழ்க! வாழ்க!

கந்தனின் அரிய திருவடிகளில் இந்த எளிய புராணத்தைப்
பணிவன்புடனும், பக்தியுடனும் சமர்ப்பணம் செய்கின்றேன்.

7#22b. மகனை விற்றான்!

தாங்க முடியவில்லை சந்திரமதியினால்!
"வாங்கிவிடுங்கள் மகனையும் நீங்களே!

ஏங்கி விடுவான் என்னைப் பிரிந்த மகன்;
தேங்கிவிடும் என் வேலைகள் எல்லாம்!"

வாங்கினார் அக்கிழவரே லோகிதாசனையும்!
வழங்கினர் பொற்காசுகளை அரிச்சந்திரனுக்கு.

கணவனை வலம் வந்து வணங்கினான் சந்திரமதி;
கண்ணீருடன் பிரார்த்தனை செய்தாள் தேவியிடம்!

"இனி வரும் பிறவிகளும் நான் இவரையே என்
கணவனாக அடையவதற்கு அருள்வாய் தாயே!"

துயரக் கடலில் மூழ்கிவிட்டான் அரிச்சந்திரன்;
'தயையற்ற அந்தணனுக்கு விற்றுவிட்டேனே !

நிழல் போல என்னைப் பிரியாதவள் இவள்;
நிஜமாகவே பிரிந்து செல்கிறாள் இப்போது!

இழந்தேன் என் நாட்டை; வந்தேன் தெருவுக்கு.
இழந்தேன் குடும்பத்தினரை! அந்தோ பரிதாபம்!'

"அடிமைகளே வாருங்கள்!" என அந்தணன்
அடித்துச் சாட்டையால் இழுத்துச் சென்றான்.

கண்ணீர்த் திரையுடன் இருந்த மன்னனின்
கண்களில் இருந்து மறைந்தனர் மூவரும்.

சுயவுருவெடுத்து வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர்.
"பயமில்லையா எந்தன் சாபத்தை எண்ணி?

தந்துவிடு என் தக்ஷிணையை இப்போதே - சத்திய
சந்தன் நீ என்பது மெய்யானால்!" என்றார் முனிவர்.

7#22b. The prince was sold!

Chandramati could not take it any longer. She told the old brahmin,"Sir please buy my son also along with me. He is too much attached to me. I can't work well worrying about him all the time!" The old brahmin bought the prince also paying a fair price for the boy.

Chandramati went round her husband and paid her obeisance to him. She prayed to Devi with tears running down her in cheeks, "Oh Devi! May I be blessed with this man as my husband in my future births also."

Harischandran was immersed in an ocean of sorrow. 'What have I done to my wife and my son? I have sold them to a stone hearted old man.

My wife was like my shadow all along till now. But nw she got separated from me and is going away from me. I lost my kingdom. I came to live on the street. Now I have sold my loving wife and son.'

The old man used his whip upon his slaves and dragged them along with him. The King watched them with his eyes brimming with tears till they disappeared from his vision.

Viswaamitra came again but this time in his real form. He ridiculed Harischandra and asked him,"Are you not afraid of my curse any more? If it is true that you speak only truth, shell my dakshiNai now in full."

64 Thiru Vilaiyaadalgal.



The 64 Divine dramas played by Lord Siva.

Lord Siva is attributed with the divine dramas numbering sixty four.
They are all interesting and captivating stories.

Some of the them-in fact most of them-are too long to be given as a single poem.

So these stories are split up into 2 or more parts. A suitable heading is given to each part.

Some of us are familiar with some of these stories. But a knowledge of all of them is desirable.

Here is my humble offering of 128 simple Tamil poems in the lotus feet of Lord Siva and Devi Uma.

For the benefit of those who are interested to read but unable to read Tamil script, the most accurate and crisp translation of the poem is given below each of the poems.

A Prayer


ராகம்: புன்னாகவராளி. தாளம்: ஆதி.
(என்னுடைய சொந்த சாஹித்யம்)

காலனைக் காலால் உதைத்தவரை - ஒரு
காலைத் தூக்கி நடம் செய்பவரை;
காளையை ஊர்தியாய்க் கொண்டவரை,
கலப்படம் அற்ற பொன் மேனியரை (1)

கழுத்தினில் நீல நிறம் கொண்டவரைக்
கருநாகப் பாம்பினை அணிந்தவரை;
கங்கையைத் தலைமேல் அணிந்தவரை,
கந்தனை மைந்தனைக் கொண்டவரை (2)

காட்டுப் புலித்தோல் அணிந்தவரைக்
காயும் மழுவைப் பிடித்தவரை;
காமனைக் கண் திறந்து எரித்தவரை,
காசி விச்வேஸ்வரனாய் அமைந்தவரை (3)

கண்கள் மூன்று உடையவரை,
கணபதிக்குக் கனி அளித்தவரை;
கனக சபைதனில் நடித்தவரை,
கபால மலையை அணிந்தவரை (4)

கையிலே உடுக்கை பிடித்தவரை,
கௌரிக்கு இடப் பக்கம் தந்தவரை;
கைலாய மலை மீது உறைபவரை,
மையலுடன் பார்வதியை அணைப்பவரை (5)

கரி உரி போர்த்திய செஞ்சேவகனை,
காதில் குழையாட ஆடும் நாதனை;
கரை காணா பக்தியுடன் தினம் தோறும்,
காலையும் மாலையும் பூஜை செய்வோம்.(6)

The glories of Lord Siva.

He who kicked Yama with one leg,
He who dances standing on one leg;
He who rides a bull truly bold,
He who shines like pure gold.(1)

He whose throat has turned black,
He who wears cobras shining black;
He who on His head sports Ganga,
He who is the father of lovely Skanda (2)

He who wears the skin of a ferocious tiger,
The Lord who holds flame and burning fire;
He who scorched Manmatha as Maheswara,
The Lord who is adored as Kasi Visweswara (3)

The Lord who has three powerful eyes,
The Lord who gave a fruit to Ganesh;
The Lord who dances in Kanaka sabhai,
The Lord who wears a Kapaala maalai (4)

The Lord who plays His little lovely drum,
The Lord who gave Gowri the left side of Him;
The Lord who on Mount Kailaash lives.
The Lord whom Devi Paarvathi Loves (5)

The Lord who sports an elephant hide,
The who wears poisonous snakes alive;
Let us pray to Him every morning,
And without fail every evening!

Hara Hara Siva Siva Sankaraa!

1a. இந்திரன் மமதை.




திருவிளையாடல்கள். முதற்பகுதி. மதுரைக்காண்டம்.

#1 இந்திரன் பழி தீர்ந்தது.

1 (a). இந்திரன் மமதை.

“பதவி வரும்போதே பவிசும் வந்துவிடும்!”
பாரில் உள்ளவர்க்கே இந்த கதியென்றால்,
பொன்னுலகாளும் விண்ணவர் வேந்தன்
மன்னர் மன்னன் இந்திரன் என் செய்வான்?

ஒளிமயமான உலகம் களிததும்பும் சுவர்க்கம்;
இனிய இசையும், இன்னல் தீர்க்கும் நடனமும்,
தோகை மயில்களை நிகர்த்த தேவ உலகப்
பாவைகளின் முன்பு தன்னையே மறந்தான்.

தேடிவந்த குலகுரு வியாழபகவானைக் கண்டும்
ஓடிவந்து வணங்கி வரவேற்காமல் இருந்தான்;
மமதை தலைக்கேறிய விண்ணவர் கோமானுக்கு
தமது அவசியம் இல்லையென விரைந்து மறைந்தார்.

குருவருள் இல்லையேல் குலச் சிறப்பேது ?
திருவும் உருவும் மங்கித் தவித்தான் தன்
பதவி தந்த ஆணவத்தால், குலகுருவுடைய
உதவியை இழந்து நின்ற மன்னன் இந்திரன்.

எத்தனை தேடினாலும் காணவே முடியவில்லை
மொத்தமாகத் தன்னை மறைத்துக் கொண்டவரை!
சித்தம் கலங்கியதால் சரணடைந்தான் இந்திரன்
வித்தகன் பிரம்ம தேவனிடம் வலியச் சென்று.

“அரசன் இன்றி ஒரு நாடும், குலகுருவின்றி
அரசனும், என்றும் இருக்கலாகாது இந்திரனே!
அரக்கன் விஸ்வரூபனை உன் குலகுருவாக
அரவணைத்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்வாய் உடனே நீ!

அரக்கனே ஆயினும் அறிவில் சிறந்தவன்;
அரும் துவஷ்டாவின் மகன் விஸ்வரூபன்”
பிரமனின் மொழியால் அமைதி அடைந்தவன்
குருவாக்கிக் கொண்டான் விஸ்வரூபனை.

“பாலுக்கும் காவல்! பூனைக்கும் தோழன்!”
தேவர் குலகுரு; ஆனால் அசுரர் மேல் பாசம்;
வேஷம் வெளிப்பட்டு விட்டது யாகத்தின்போது
மோசம் செய்யும் குரு விஸ்வரூபனுடையது!

நலம் வேண்டினான் நாவினால் சுரர்களின்;
நலம் வேண்டினான் மனத்தால் அசுரர்களின்;
திவ்விய திருஷ்டியால் உண்மை அறிந்தவன்,
திவ்விய ஆயுதத்தால் அசுரனை முடித்தான்.

அசுரன் ஆயினும் அரச குலகுருவன்றோ?
அமரர்கோனைப் பற்றியது பிரம்மஹத்தி!
ஒளி மழுங்கிப் பொலிவிழந்து தவித்தவன்,
வெளிப் போக்கிவிட்டான் பிரம்மஹத்தியை!

பாவத்தைப் பங்கிட்டுக் கொடுத்துவிட்டான்!
பாகங்கள் நான்காக அதைப் பிரித்த பின்னர்.
பாவையர், தருக்கள், நீர், நிலம் எனபவர்
பாவத்தை ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட நால்வகையினர்!

“பழி ஓரிடம் பாவம் ஓரிடம்” எனப் பகரும்
பழமொழியின் நுண்பொருள் இது தானோ?
செய்யாத தவறுக்குத் தண்டனை ஏற்றனர்
பொய்யாமல் இந்த நான்கு வகையினர்களும்.

1 (a). Indra’s arrogance.

Any person gets corrupted by power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Indra, the Lord of the Gods, became very arrogant and intoxicated by his power.

The heaven is a wonderful place! It is brightly lit, and is a carefree happy world. It resonates with divine music and mesmerizing dances performed by the damsels of heaven called Apsaras.

They are pretty and proud like our peacocks and danced as well too! Indra used to get immersed in the music and dance and was lost to the external world!

One day, Deva guru Bruhaspati came to Indra’s durbar, but the proud and arrogant king did not get up to receive his kulaguru with due honors.

Bruhaspati felt humiliated and left the place promptly. He also hid himself completely! Without the blessings and the guidance of the guru, Indra started losing his prosperity and glory.

He was unhappy with his own arrogant behavior. However hard he tried, his guru was not to be found anywhere! He became desperate and sought the advice of Brahma.

Brahma told him,” A country without a king and a king without a guru will perish. Accept Viswaroopan as your new guru. He is an asura, but he is well versed, intelligent and accomplished”.

Indra made Viswaroopan as his new kulaguru. The new kulaguru had a soft corner for asuras- his own clan. While performing a yagna, the Deva-guru prayed for the welfare of the Devas openly and in his mind he was praying for the welfare of the asuras.

Indra came to know of this treachery and promptly killed Viswaroopan. Indra got afflicted by the Brahmahathi dosham. He was at his wit’s end since he lost his tejas, beauty, strength and glory.

The Devas came up with a perfect plan to get rid of his sin and the dosham. Indra gave away his Brahmahathi dosham to the four categories of innocent beings viz women, tress, earth and water.

These four categories bear the brunt of Indra’s sins. They were made the scapegoats and are suffering ever since for the sins they have not actually committed.

தேவி பாகவதத்தை இயற்றியவர் முனிவர். வேத வியாசர்.
தேவி பாகவததைக் முதலில் கேட்டவன் ஜனமேஜயன்.

முனிவரின் சாபத்துக்கு ஆளான பரீக்ஷித் மன்னன்
பணி தீண்டி அடைந்தான் அகாலமாக துர்மரணம்.

துர் மரணத்தின் தீவினைகளை நீக்கிட அவன் மகன்
சிரவணம் செய்தான் தேவி பாகவதத்தை முதன் முதலில்.

ஒன்பது நாட்களில் கூறினார் தேவி பாகவதத்தை வியாசர்.
ஒன்பது நாட்களின் முடிவில் பரீக்ஷித் அடைந்தான் முக்தி.

"புத் என்னும் நரகத்தில் இருந்து என்னை மீட்டுக் காத்த
சத் புத்திரன் நீயே!" என்று பரீக்ஷித் பாராட்டினான் மகனை.

An introduction to Devi Bhaagavatam

Devi Bhaagavatam was composed by Sage Vyaasaa.
King Janameyan – son of King Pareekshit- was the first one to listen to it.
King Pareekshit placed a dead snake around the neck of a rushi in deep meditation.
To absolve his sin and release him from the sufferings in Hell,
Janamejayan listened to the Devi Bhaagavatam told in nine days by sage Vyaasaa.

2. தேவி பாகவத மகாத்மியம்

சக்தி

உலகம், உயிர்கள், இறைவன் இவற்றில்
ஊடுருவியுள்ள ஆற்றல் தான் பராசக்தி.

எல்லாம் செய்ய வல்லவள் பராசக்தி.
எங்கும் நிறைந்திருப்பவள் பராசக்தி.

முத் தொழிலுக்கும் தேவதை பராசக்தி
அத்தனைக்கும் மூல காரணம் பராசக்தி.

பெண் வடிவில் இருந்து உலகினைப்
பேணுவதும் பராசக்தியின் அம்சமே.

பெண் இல்லையென்றால் இல்லை பிறவி.
பெண் இல்லை என்றால் இல்லை குடும்பம்.

பெண் இல்லை என்றால் இல்லை ஒரு நாடு.
பெண் இல்லை என்றால் இல்லை உலகம்

பெண்மையின் ஆற்றலே சக்தி
ஆண்மையின் ஆற்றலும் சக்தியே.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

2. Shakti Mahaatmyam

The energy pervading in all the living things – movable and immovable is Shakti.
Shakti can do anything and everything.
Shakti prevails in everything and everywhere.
Shakti is responsible for the Generation, Ordinance and Destruction of jeevaas.
Shakti is the root cause behind srushti or creation.
Shakti assumes the form of a woman and protects the universe.
But for a woman there will be no births!
But for a woman there will be no families!
But for a woman there will be no countries!
But for a woman there will be no world!
Shakti is the energy of womenfolks.
Shakti is the energy of menfolks too.

7#22c. "இன்னமும் பொன் தா!"


அரிச்சந்திரன் கூறினான் முனிவரிடம்!
அரிய பொற்காசுகளை அள்ளித் தந்து!

"எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் பொற்காசுகளை;
கொடுத்து விட்டேன் உம் தக்ஷிணையை!"

கொடுத்தான் பதினோரு கோடிப் பொற்காசு.
எடுத்துக் கொள்ளவில்லை விஸ்வாமித்திரர்.

"எப்படிக் கிடைத்தது இத்தனை பொன் உனக்கு?
தப்பு வழியில் ஈட்டினாயா இந்தப் பொன்னை?

கெட்ட வழியில் வந்த பொன்னை - நான்
தொட்டும் பாரேன் எனது தக்ஷிணையாக!

நேர்மையான வழியில் வந்ததா இந்தப் பொன்?
வாய்மையுடன் கூறு நீ உண்மையை எனக்கு!" என

"விற்றேன் மனைவியை ஒரு கோடிப் பொன்னுக்கு;
விற்றேன் மகனைப் பத்துக் கோடிப் பொன்னுக்கு.

நல்ல வழியில் ஈட்டிய பொருள் தான் இது;
நல்ல விலை கிடைத்தது மனைவி மகனுக்கு.

எடுத்துச் செல்லும் உம்முடைய தட்சிணையாக;
கொடுத்துவிட்டேன் பதினோரு கோடிப் பொன்!" என

"தகுந்த தக்ஷிணையா இது ராஜசூய யாகத்துக்கு?
தந்தால் போதுமா இந்தப் பொன்னை எனக்கு?

சொன்னபடிக் கொடு இரண்டரை பாரப் பொன்;
இன்னல் விளையும் சொன்ன சொல் தவறினால்.

ஒரு ஜாமப் பொழுது மிகுந்துள்ளது இன்னமும்.
பொறுக்க மாட்டேன் அதன் பின் ஒரு கணமும்!"

7#22c. "Give me more gold !"

Harischandra gave the gold coins to Viswaamitra. He said,"Take these eleven crore gold coins as your dakshiNa." But Viswaamitra would not touch those gold coins. Now he fired a series of questions at Harischandra.

"How did you come into possession of so much gold so suddenly? Surely you must have earned it by some foul means. If so, I would not even touch that gold. Tell me the truth now!"

"I sold my wife for one crore gold coins and my son for ten crore gold coins. They fetched good prices. I have got this gold by selling my family. Take these for you dakshiNa."

Viswaamitra would not touch the gold even now. "Do you think this dakshiNai is enough for my service? I would not take anything less than two and half loads of gold as promised by you. You still have a little more time left before the ends. I will not wait even for a second after that!"

திருவிளையாடல்கள். முதற்பகுதி. மதுரைக்காண்டம்.

#1 இந்திரன் பழி தீர்ந்தது.

# 1 (b). ததீசியின் தானம்.

மகனைக் கொன்ற இந்திரனைப் பழி தீர்க்கத்
தகவுடைய யாகமொன்று செய்தான் துவஷ்டா.

யாகத்தில் தோன்றினான் வலிய விருத்திரன்,
“போகத்தில் மூழ்கிய இந்திரனை அழிப்பாய்!”

தந்தை சொல் மிக்க மந்திரம் இல்லையே!
தந்தை துவஷ்டாவின் பழி தீர்க்க விழைந்து ,

விருத்திரன் விரைந்தான் இந்திரனை நோக்கி;
கருத்தழிந்து மனக் கவலையுற்றான் இந்திரன்!

ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் சளைத்தவரும் அல்ல!
ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் இளைத்தவரும் அல்ல!

பெரும் போர் மூண்டது சுர அசுரர்களிடையே!
இருபுறங்களிலுமே மிகப் பெரிய சேதங்கள்.

ஓடினான் மீண்டும் பிரமனிடம் இந்திரன்;
ஓடினார்கள் இருவரும் திருமாலை நாடி!

“திவ்விய ஆயுதம் வலுவிழந்து விட்டது.
தெய்வத் தச்சனிடம் புதியது செய்துகொள்!

பாற்கடல் கடைந்த சுர அசுரர்கள் தங்கள்
தோற்றறியாத படைக்கலன்களை எல்லாம்,

அன்று அளித்தனர் அருந்தவர் ததீசியிடம்,
பின்னர் விழுங்கி விட்டார் அவர் அவற்றை.

அத்தனை படைக்கலன்களும் இன்றுவரை
அத்தன் முதுகெலும்பில் பொருந்தியுள்ளன.

தண்டு வடத்தைக் கேட்டு நீ வாங்கி வந்தால்
தொண்டு புரியும் அது புதிய வச்சிராயுதமாக!”

முனிவர் ததீசியிடம் கோரினான் யாசகம்,
தனிப் பெரும் ஆயுதம் விரும்பிய இந்திரன்;

“என்றோ மடிந்து மறையும் உடலை நான்
இன்றே தருவேன் உனக்காக!’ என்றார் ததீசி.

அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் ஆவார்.
அன்புடையோர் என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு!

அன்பே வடிவாகிய முனிவர் உடல் துறந்து,
என்பினை அளித்துச் சேர்ந்தார் சிவலோகம்.

தேவத் தச்சன் உடன் விரைந்து வந்தான்.
தேவர் கோனுக்கு புது ஆயுதம் சமைத்தான்.

புதிய வச்சிராயுதம் பெற்றதால் மகிழ்ந்து
புதிய பலம் பெற்றது தேவர்கள் கூட்டம்.

நால்வகைப் படைகளும் மீண்டும் கூடின.
நல்ல முறையில் அணிவகுத்து நின்றன.

மீண்டும் யுத்தம் புரிய விரும்பியவர்கள்,
மீண்டும் வந்தனர் பெரும் அமர்க்களத்துக்கு.

1 (b). THE GIFT OF DADHICHI.

Thvashtaa, Viswaroopan’s father became very angry with Indra and wanted to avenge his son’s murder.He performed a yaagam in order to destroy Indra.

The powerful Vruthraasuran appeared as a result of the Yaagam. Thvashtaa ordered him to destroy Indra. Vtutraasuran went looking for Indra.

The war between the asuras and devas went on and on for a long time! Indra could not vanquish Vrutraaasuran. He ran to Brahma for his advice.

Together they ran to Vishnu for His advice. Vishnu told them, “Indra’s vajraayudham has lost all its power. Indra has to get a new weapon made by Viswakarma.

During the time of the amrutha mathanam, both the suras and asuras had handed over all their weapons to the maharushi Dadhichi for safe keeping.

None of them went back to collect their weapons. Hence the maharushi had swallowed them. They all have got attached to his spine. If you could make the new Vajraayutham from his spine, you will become invincible”.

Indra begged the maharushi Dadhichi for the gift of his back bone. Anyone would have refused such a gift-the spine of a living man!

But Dadhichi was a mahaan and was not attached to his physical body. He promptly agreed to gift his spine and said to Indra,”Sooner or later my body will perish and my bones will rot. Let it be now and for a holy cause”.

He sat in meditation and cast off his physical body. Viswakarma made a new vajraayudham with the rushi’s spine. Deva’s hope for victory was renewed. So also their power and strength.They got ready for a fresh war with the invincible Vrutraasuran.

The army of the Deva reached the battle field!
