DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 6

6#28b. நாரதர் பெண் ஆனார் (2)

நாராயணன் தொடர்ந்து கூறினார் நாரதரிடம்,
நன்கு விவரித்தார் மாயையின் மகிமையை.

“உருவம் அற்றது காலத் தத்துவம் – எனினும்
உருவம் ஆகிவிடுகிறது அதுவே மாயைக்கு.

மாயை ஆக்கும் அறிஞனை தர்ம மூடனாக;
மாயை ஆக்கும் மூடனைத் தர்மம் அறிந்தவனாக.

முக்குண வடிவானவள் மாயை; அவள் சர்வக்ஞை;
எக்காலத்திலும், எவ்விடத்திலும் நிரம்பி இருப்பவள்.

வெல்ல முடியாதவள் அவள்; ஆதாரம் ஆனவள்;
செல்வோம் கருடன் மீது மாயையைக் காண்பதற்கு!”

அமர்ந்தோம் கருடன் மீது நாங்கள் இருவரும்;
அடைந்தோம் கன்யா குப்ஜம் என்னும் நகரை.

ஒலித்தன பறவைகளின் இன்னிசைப் பாடல்கள்;
ஒளிர்ந்தன தாமரை மலர்கள் நீர் தடாகத்தில்.

“நீராடி விட்டுச் செல்வோம் நகர் காண்பதற்கு!”
நிர்மலமான நீரில் இறங்கினேன் நான் முதலில்.

வைத்தேன் வீணை, துளசி மாலையைக் கரையில்;
திகைத்தேன் நீரில் முங்கி விட்டு எழுந்தவுடன்!

அழகிய இளம் பெண்ணாக மாறி இருந்தேன்!
பழகிய ஆண் உடல் மறந்து போனது எனக்கு.

மறந்தேன் நாரணனையும், வீணையையும் கூட!
மரம் போல நின்றுவிட்டேன் வியப்பின் உச்சியில்.

வந்தான் மன்மத ரூபனாக ஒரு மன்னன்;
சொன்னான் காதல் மொழிகளை என்னிடம்.

“மணந்து கொண்டு துய்ப்போம் இன்பம்;
கணவனாக ஏற்றுக் கொள் என்னை!” என்றான்.

6#28b. Naarada became a woman (2)

Lord Naaraayan explained to me (Naarada) the magnificence of Maayaa. “Time factor is without a form or a figure. But Time factor becomes the body or figure of Maayaa. Maayaa can make a wise person a fool and a foolish person very wise.

Maayaa is composed of the three guNaas. Maayaa is omniscient, omnipresent and omnipotent. Maayaa can not be conquered. Maayaa supports everything else but does not need a support for itself. Let both of us pay a visit to Maayaa.”

Lord Naaraayan sat on Garudan along with me and soon we reached a city called Kanya Kubjam.

The songs of the birds filled the air. The lotus flowers bloomed in the crystal clear water of the ponds and lit up the whole place pleasingly.

Naaraayan said, “Let us first take dip in the pond and then proceed to see
the city”. I agreed and left my Mahati veena and Tulasi maalaa on the bank of the pond. I entered the pond first and took a dip. When I came out I had become a beautiful young woman.

I forgot that I had been a man and that my Mahati veena and tulasi maala were on the bank of the pond. A handsome king came that way.

His name was Taaladwajan. He fell head over heels in love with me who had turned into a pretty young woman at the very first sight.

He proposed to marry me – promising me everything a pretty young woman would desire to possess!”

13o. சலந்தரன்

சலந்தரன் மணந்தான் விருத்தையை,
காலநேமி அவுணன் பெற்ற மகளை,

குலகுரு சுக்கிரரின் ஆணைப்படி,
குலமும் குடியும் மனமகிழும்படி!

அஞ்சினர் உலகினர் அவனைக் கண்டு!
தஞ்சம் அடைந்தனர் தேவர் மேருவில்!

போர்புரிய விழைந்தான் தேவருடன்;
போர் புரியச் சென்றான் மேருமலை.

திருமாலைத் தொழுதனர் தேவர்கள்;
திருமால் விரைந்தார் கருடன் மீது!

இருபதினாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் புரிந்தார்
திருமால் அவுணனுடன் கடும்போர்.

வெல்ல முடியாத அவன் ஆற்றலைச்
சொல்லால் புகழ்ந்து திரும்பினர் மால்.

அஞ்சிய தேவர்கள் அகன்று சென்று
தஞ்சம் அடைந்தனர் கயிலை நாதனை.

அஞ்சி ஒடுபவரைத் துரத்திச் செல்பவரும்
கெஞ்சுபவரை மிஞ்சுபவரும் உண்டே!

கயிலை மலையை அடைந்தான் அவுணன்
கயிலை நாதனைத் தொழுதனர் தேவர்கள்.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13p. Jalandaran.

Jalandran married Brinda-the daughter of asuran Kaalanemi-as advised by his kulaguru Sukraacharya, much to the delight of his kith and kin. He was invincible. The human beings shuddered at his thought. The Devas had gone into hiding in mount Meru.

He wanted to defeat the Devas. He went to Mount Meru. Devas prayed to Vishnu-who appeared promptly on his garuda vaahana. A fierce battle ensued for 20,000 years. Vishnu was not able to defeat Jalandran. He went back after praising the valor of Jalandran.

Now the Devas shifted to Kailash and sought the protection of Siva.
Jalandran chased them and reached Kailash. The Devas prayed to Siva.

04. ரிஷபாத்ரி

வேட்டைக்குச் செல்ல விழைந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்;
காட்டுக்குச் செல்லத் தயாராயினர் படைவீரர்கள்.

சேனைத் தலைவன் தலைமையில் வந்தனர்,
சேஷாத்திரி வாசனைத் தொடர்ந்து வீரர்கள்.

வேட்டை ஆடினர் வெகுநேரம் மிருகங்களை;
வேட்கை மிகுந்தது நீர் பருகித் தாகம் தீர்ந்திட.

அழகிய சோலை ஒன்று தென்பட்டது அங்கு;
தழுவியது வீசிய குளிர்ந்த தென்றல் காற்று.

ரிஷபன் என்னும் அசுரனின் சோலை அது;
ரிஷபன் தடுத்தான் அதில் நுழைந்தவீரர்களை.

அரச குமாரன் என்று எண்ணினான் பகவானை;
பரந்தாமனையும் அச்சுறுத்தினான் ரிஷபன்!

“சம்பரா! இவனுக்குப் பதில் கூறு!” என்று சொல்ல
சம்பரன் தயாரானான் ரிஷபனுடன் போர் புரிய.

சிவ பக்தி மிகுந்தவன் அசுரன் ரிஷபன் – எனவே
தேக சக்தியும் மிகுந்தவன் அசுரன் ரிஷபன் !

நொடியில் அடித்து வீழ்த்தினான் சம்பரனை;
அடுத்து ஓடி வந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனை நோக்கி!

சரங்களைப் பொழிந்தான் சேனை நாயகன்;
சரங்கள் தடுத்தன அசுரனைச் சுவராக மாறி!

கரங்களாலே உடைத்தான் சுவற்றை அசுரன்,
பரபரவென்று முன்னேறினான் ரிஷபன்

அஸ்த்திரங்களை ஏவினான் அசுரன் ரிஷபன்;
அஸ்த்திரங்களை ஏவினான் சேனை நாயகன்!

VENKATESA PURAANAM

04. Rishabaadri

Srinivaasan wanted to go on a hunting expedition. His soldiers got ready for the expedition. They were lead by the Senaapati and he followed Srinivaasan.

They hunted down several wild animals for a long time. They all became
hungry, thirsty and tired. They looked for fresh drinking water and came across a grove. The place was very cool and the breeze blowing there was very refreshing.

The grove belonged to an asuran named Rishaban. He did not like people entering into his domain as if it were a no man’s land. He stopped the group imagining that Srinivaasan was be a king and the others his soldiers.

Srinivaasan gave a command to his senaapati.” Sambara! Take care of this asuran”. Sambaran got ready for a fight. Rishaban was an ardent devotee of Lord Siva.

He had immense physical strength and overcame Sambaran in a minute. Then he came charging towards Srinivaasan with his anger aroused.

The senaapati showered many arrows and built a wall blocking Rishaban’s way. Rishaban did not hesitate. He broke the wall of arrows with his bare hands and advanced towards his target.

Sambaran shot more arrows on Rishaban. Rishaban also shot more arrows on Sambaran.

6#29a. நாரதரின் குடும்பம் (1)

கேட்டான் பல கேள்விகளை மன்னன் தாலத்வஜன்;
கேட்ட கேள்விக்கு விடை தெரியவில்லை எனக்கு.

“நான் யார் என்று கேட்டீர்! எனக்குத் தெரியாது!
யாருடைய பெண் நான் என்று கேட்டீர்! தெரியாது!

எங்கிருந்து இங்கு வந்தேன்? அதுவும் தெரியாது.
எதற்காக இங்கு வந்தேன்? அதுவும் தெரியாது.

தெரியவில்லை என்னைப் பற்றிய விவரங்கள்!
தெய்வாம்சமாக வந்திருப்பேனோ ஒருவேளை?

துணை ஒன்றும் இன்றி உள்ளேன் உம் வசத்தில்;
தோன்றியதைச் செய்யுங்கள் அரசே!” என்றேன்.

முத்துச் சிவிகை வந்தது அங்கு ஒரே நொடியில்!
பத்திரமாக அடைந்தேன் அவன் அரண்மனையை.

மணம் புரிந்து கொண்டோம் நல்ல நேரத்தில்;
மனம் மகிழும்படி பொழிந்தான் அன்புமழை!

சுந்தரி என்று பெயரிட்டு அழைத்தான் என்னை!
சுக, போகங்களில் ஆழ்த்தி விட்டான் என்னை!

மறந்துவிட்டான் மன்னன் மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையும்.
துறந்து விட்டான் ராஜ்ஜிய காரியங்களை எல்லாம்!

இரவு பகல் பேதம் அறியவில்லை நாங்கள்!
அருந்தினோம் மது; மயங்கி முயங்கினோம்!

நினைவில்லை நான் ஒரு ஆணாக இருந்தது!
நினைவில்லை நான் நாரத முனியாக இருந்தது.

இணை பிரியாது வாழ்ந்தோம் இருவரும்;
துணை ஆகிவிட்டோம் ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர்.

உருண்டு சென்றன பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள்.
உருவானான் கர்ப்பத்தில் என் முதல் மகன்.”

6#29a. Naarada’s family (1)

“Taaladwajan asked me many questions but I knew the answer for none of them. I did not know who I was, whose daughter I was, where I had come from and why I had come there.

I told king Taaladwajan,”I know nothing about myself. But I know that I am all alone without anyone support me or help me and I am at your mercy. You may do whatever you feel just!”

A palanquin made of pearls came there instantly. I was carried in it safely to the palace of that king. He married me on an auspicious day. He showered his affection on me. He called me as Sundari. He was with me always.

He neglected his stately and kingly duties. We drank wine and enjoyed without distinguishing between the day and the night. I forgot completely that I had been a man once or that I was the Deva rushi Naarada. Twelve years rolled by and I conceived my first child.”

13p. சலந்தரன் அழிவு

திருவிளையாடலை விழைந்தார் பெருமான்.
ஒருகுடை, கமண்டலம் ஏந்தினார் கைகளில்.

நடை தளர்ந்தார், தடியை ஊன்றினார்;
நரை திரை மலிந்த கிழவராக ஆனார்.

பார்ப்பனக் கோலம் தரித்து வந்தார்;
பார்வையில் படாது வந்தனர் தேவர்.

“யார் நீ? எங்கு வசிப்பவன் எனக் கூறு!
யாரைத் தேடித் படையுடன் நடந்தாய்?”

“நிலவுலகில் வசிக்கும் அவுணன் நான்.
கடலரசனின் வளர்ப்பு மகன் சலந்தரன்.

வந்துள்ளேன் போரில் வெல்வதற்கு
அந்தச் சிவனையும் தேவர்களையும்!”

நகைத்தார் கிழவர், உரைத்தார் மேலும்.
“பகைத்தால் சிவனை, இறப்பது உறுதி!

பிழைக்க விரும்பினால் திரும்பிச் செல்!
அனைத்தும் அறிவேன் சிவனைப் பற்றி!”

மாறுவேடக் கிழவர் யார் என்றறியாமல்
வேறுபட்டு நின்று, சீறிச் சினந்தான்.

“சிறியவனாக எண்ணிவிட்டீர் என்னை!
சிறிது நேரம் நின்று பாரும் ஆற்றலை!”

“ஆற்றலைக் காணவே வந்துள்ளேன்”
கீற்றினர் திருவடியால் சிவபெருமான்

நிலத்தில் உருளை வடிவம் ஒன்றினை.
“தலையில் தாங்க வல்லாயோ இதை?”

“உருளையைத் தலையில் தாங்குவது
ஊதிப் புகையைத் தள்ளுவதற்கு ஒப்பு!”

உருளைப் படையை எடுத்தான் மேலே;
உருளை இருந்தது மிகவும் பாரமாக.

முயன்று உயர்த்தி மார்பில், தோளில்,
தயங்கித் தலையில் சுமந்தான் அதை.

உருளை உடலை இரு கூறாக்கியது!
குருதி பெருகி எங்கும் பரவியது!

உடன் வந்த படையைத் திருக்கண் தீ
சுடலைச் சாம்பலாக மாற்றி விட்டது!

மெய் வடிவுடன் நின்று அருள் செய்த
ஐயனை வணங்கித் துன்பம் தீர்ந்தனர்.

6#13q. Jalandaran is destroyed.

Siva wanted to play a prank. He took the form of a very old brahmin. He carried an umbrella, a kamandalam, and a stick to support his faltering steps. The Devas followed him invisibly.

The old brahmin asked Jalandran.”Who are you? Where do you live? why have you come with an army?”

Jalandran replied,”I am the adopted son of Varuna. I live on earth. My name is Jalandran. I have come to conquer Siva and the Devas”

The old man laughed loudly and said,”If you fight with Siva you will surely get destroyed. Go back and live longer. I know all about Siva!”

Jalandran did not know it was Siva himself advising him to go back. He became very angry at being ridiculed by an old brahmin. ‘You think I am an ordinary person. Just hang around to see my valor”

The old man replied. “I have come here only to see your valor! He drew a discus on the ground with his toe. "Can you carry this discus on your head?”

“Carrying this discus is as easy as blowing away the smoke!” Jalandran replied. He picked up the discus. It was very heavy. Slowly he raised it to his chest, his shoulder and finally on to his head.

The discus tore his body into two pieces. Blood flooded the place. The army accompanying Jalandran was turned into ash by the fire emerging from Siva’s third eye. Devas paid obeisance to Siva who stood in his original form and glory.

05. ரிஷபாத்ரி

அஸ்திரங்கள் பறந்தன எதிர் திசைகளில்!
அடுத்துத் தொடர்ந்தது ஒரு மாயப் போர்.

விண்ணில் எழும்பினான் அசுரன் ரிஷபன்;
எண்ணிறந்த பாணங்களைப் பொழிந்தான்!

திக்குமுக்காட வைத்தான் சேனை நாயகனை;
சக்கராயுதம் தான் வெல்வதற்கு ஒரே வழி என,

மாயப் போர் புரியும் ரிஷபன் மீது சக்கரத்தைத்
தியானித்த பின்பு எய்தான் சேனை நாயகன்.

கூரிய முனைகள் கக்கின தீப் பொறிகளை;
நேராகப் பாய்ந்து சென்றது அது ரிஷபனிடம்!

விடுத்தான் பற்பல அஸ்திரங்களை ரிஷபன்;
தடுக்க முடியவில்லை முன்னேறும் சக்கரத்தை

தீச் சுடரில் விழுந்த விட்டில் பூச்சிகள் போல
தீப் பொறியில் மறைந்தன எய்யப்பட்ட சரங்கள்.

தடுக்க முடியாது சக்கரத்தை என்றதும் அவனுக்கு
விடுபட்டது வந்தவர் யார் என்ற வினாவின் விடை.

‘பரந்தாமனே வந்துள்ளான் எந்தன் சோலைக்கு!
பகைமை பாராட்டிப் போர் புரிகிறேன் அறிவிலி!

தப்பவே முடியாது சக்கரத்திடமிருந்து என்றால்,
தப்பாமல் கிடைக்கும் அவன் பரமபதம் எனக்கு!’

பாதங்களில் சென்று விழுந்தான் பகவானிடம்,
“பரந்தாமா என்னே உந்தன் கருணை என் மீது!

தரிசனம் வேண்டித் தவம் கிடக்கின்றார்கள்
தேவர்களும், பிரமனும், இந்திரனும் அங்கு!

அடியேனுக்கு அளித்தாய் திவ்விய தரிசனம்;
மடியப் போகிறேன் உன் சக்கரத்தால் நான்!

வரம் ஒன்று கேட்கின்றேன் உன்னிடம் நான்;
பரம பதம் நீ அருள்வது உறுதி ஆகிவிட்டது!

ரிஷப மலையாக ஆக வேண்டும் இந்த மலை!”
ரிஷபனை இரண்டாக்கியது இறைவன் சக்கரம்.

தூய ஜோதியாக எழுந்தது அவன் ஜீவாத்மா!
நேயத்துடன் இணைந்தது திருப் பாதங்களில்!

VENKATESA PURAANAM

05. Rishabaadri

Arrows flew in the opposite directions. It was followed by the Maya warfare. Rishaban rose high in the sky. He showered arrows on the confused senaapati who decided to use the chakraayudam as the last resort. He held it and uttered the mantra before releasing it on Rishaban.

The chakram sped forward emitting sparks of fire. Rishaban shot may arrows and tried to stop the progress of chakram but it proved to be invincible. All the arrows shot by Rishaban vanished like the moths in the flame of a lamp. When Rishaban saw that the chakram was invincible, he immediately guessed correctly the identity of the person – who he had thought to be a king.

‘Lord Vishnu has come to my grove. Instead of offering him everything I have, I am waging a war on him, like a fool. I can never escape from the chakram! But it is sure to give me his parama padam as well.’

He fell at the feet of Srinivaasan and said, “Oh Ocean of Mercy! Parandaamaa! Have you come to me to give your dharshan while the Deva, Indra and Brahma are made to wait patiently for it? I know I will surely be killed by the chakram. I am also sure that you will give me parama padam. I have one more request to make. I seek one more boon. May this mountain be named after me!”

The chakram cut him into two. His jeeva jothi rose up as a visible light and merged with the lotus feet of Srinivaasan. Ever since then the mountain came to be known as Rishabaadri – named after the valiant asuran Rishaban.

6#29b. நாரதரின் குடும்பம் (2)

“கர்ப்பிணி ஆகி விட்டேன் அன்பின் பயனாக;
கணவன் செய்தான் வளைகாப்பு, சீமந்தம்.

பிள்ளை பிறந்தான் நல்ல நேரத்தில், நல்ல நாளில்.
பிள்ளைக்குப் பெயரிட்டோம் வீரவர்மன் என்று.

பிள்ளை பிறந்தான் மீண்டும் இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளில்;
பிள்ளைக்கு நல்ல பெயரிட்டோம் சுதன்மன் என்று.

பிறந்தனர் பன்னிரண்டு பிள்ளைகள் எனக்கு!
புரிந்தோம் திருமணம் அருமை மகன்களுக்கு!

பிறந்தார்கள் பிள்ளைகள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு;
பெருகியது பந்த பாசம் பேரர் வருகையால்.

மூழ்கி விட்டேன் முற்றிலுமாக சம்சாரத்தில்;
ஆழ்ந்து விட்டேன் முற்றிலுமாக மாயையில்.

மறந்து விட்டது நாரதனாகச் சுற்றித் திரிந்தது;
மறைந்து விட்டது கற்று அறிந்திருந்த ஞானம்.

அகம்பாவம் உண்டானது சுகபோக வாழ்வினால்!
அறியவில்லை விஷ்ணு என்னை வஞ்சித்ததை.

படையெடுத்தான் அன்னிய தேசத்து அரசன்!
படையை எதிர் கொண்டனர் பிள்ளைகள், பேரர்.

விழுந்துவிட்டனர் அனைவரும் போரில் மாய்ந்து;
விழாமல் வந்தான் கணவன் அன்பின் மிகுதியால்.

துயரக் கடலில் விழுந்தேன் தாளாத சோகத்தில்.
உயர இருந்து தலை கீழே விழுந்தது போலானது.”

6#29b. Naaradaa’s family (2)

Naaradaa continued explaining to Vyaasaa the effects of Maayaa.

“I became pregnant with my first child. My loving husband performed all the celebrations like VaLai kaappu and seemantham. I delivered a healthy son and he was named as Veera Varman. After two years I got my second son whom we named as Sudanman.

In due course I had delivered twelve sons. They grew up well and got married when they attained marriageable age. They got their own children in due course. My delusion due to Maayaa and immersion in samsaaraa increased.

With the arrival of my grand children, I forgot that I used to be Naarada and used to roam around the three worlds. I forgot all the saastraas and the knowledge I had gathered.

I became proud and arrogant that I was leading such a happy and problem-free-life. I did not realize that Vishnu had betrayed me treacherously.

The ruler of a neighboring kingdom waged a war on our kingdom. My sons and their sons went to the war field. Unfortunately all of them fell to the attack by the enemy.

Only my husband managed to return to me alive. I felt as though I had been pushed down from the seventh heaven headlong! I was immersed a sea of unending sorrow.”

13q. விருந்தை

விருந்தையை, சலந்தரன் மனைவியை
விரும்பினார் திருமால் தன் உளமாற.

தவ முனிவரின் கோலம் தரித்தார்,
தவறான எண்ணத்துடன் தங்கினார்;

சலந்தரனின் மாளிகையை அடுத்த
மலர்கள் நிறைந்த பூம் பொழிலில்.

கணவன் திரும்பாததால் விருந்தை
கவலையுடன் பூம்பொழில் சென்றாள்.

திருமால் காவலர் அரிமா உருவில்
விருந்தையை வெருட்டினர் அங்கே.

தவக் கோல முனிவரிடம் சென்று
கவலை நீங்கினாள் பேதை விருந்தை.

“சிவனை எதிர்த்துப் போரிடச் சென்ற
அவர் கதி என்ன ஆயிற்று?” என வினவ

மாலின் காவலர் குரங்கு வடிவத்தில்
சலந்தரனின் உடலைக் கொணர்ந்தனர்.

மூர்ச்சித்து விழுந்த விருந்தையைத்
தேற்றி எழுப்பினார் தவக்கோல மால்.

“கணவரைப் பிழைக்கச் செய்யும்” என்று
கதறி அழுதாள் விருந்தை முனிவரிடம்

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13r. Brinda and Vishnu.

Vishnu desired Brinda-the wife of Jalandran. He assumed the form of a tapasvi and went to the garden adjacent to the palace of Jalandran.

Brinda got worried by her husband’s absence. She went to the garden. The dwaara paalakaas of Vishnu frightened her assuming the form of two lions.

She ran to Vishnu disguised as a tapasvi and was saved by him. She wanted to know the fate of her husband who had gone to fight Siva.

The dwaara paalakaas now assumed the form of two monkeys and brought the two halves of the dead body of Jalandran. Brinda swooned right away at the horrible sight.

The Tapasvi brought her around. She begged him to resurrect her husband by the power of his penance. The tapasvi put the torn halves of the body together and entered into it in a moment.

06. அஞ்சனாத்ரி

திரேதா யுகத்தில் கடும் தவம் செய்தான்,
பரமசிவனைக் குறித்துக் கேசரி என்பவன்.

“வேண்டும் வரம் யாது?” என்று கேட்க
வேண்டினான் கேசரி இந்த வரத்தினை.

“எவராலும் வெல்லமுடியாத பலத்துடன்,
என்றும் வாழ்ந்திருக்கும் மகன் வேண்டும்!”

“புதல்வி தான் பிறப்பாள் உமக்கு – அந்தப்
புதல்விக்குப் பிறப்பான் நீர் கோரும் மகன்!”

அஞ்சனை அவதரித்தாள் அந்தக் கேசரிக்கு;
அருமை பெருமையாக அவளை வளர்த்தான்.

வானரத் தலைவன் விரும்பிக் கேட்டதால்,
வானரனுக்கு அவளை மணம் செய்வித்தான்.

குறை இருந்தது புத்திரன் இல்லையென்று!
குறத்தி போல வந்தாள் தரும தேவதை.

“வேங்கடம் சென்று தவம் செய்தால் – மனம்
வேண்டியபடிப் பிறப்பான் நல்ல மகன்!” என

அனுமதி பெற்றாள் தன் கணவனிடமிருந்து,
அடைந்தாள் வேங்கட மலையைச் சென்று.

ஆகாய கங்கையில் நீராடினாள் – பின்பு
அமர்ந்தாள் அரும் தவம் புரிவதற்கு.

காற்றை மட்டுமே உட்கொண்டாள் – அவள்
மற்றவற்றைத் துறந்தாள் முற்றிலுமாக!

அஞ்சனை தவத்துக்கு இரங்கினான் வாயு;
கொஞ்சமேனும் தான் உதவ நினைத்தான்.

கனிந்த பழத்தைக் கரத்தில் கொண்டு போட,
இனிய பிரசாதமாக அதை அவள் புசிப்பாள்.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#06. Anjanaa devi

In Tretaa Yuga, Kesari did severe penance on Lord Siva. He wished for a son who would be both invincible and a Chiranjeevi. Siva blessed him with a daughter instead and said,”Your daughter will bear the son you have wished for!”

Anjanaa was born to Kesari and soon she grew up into a pretty maiden. The king of Vanara loved Anjanaa and married her with the permission of Kesari. But they did not have any children.

Dharma Devata came changed into a fortune teller. She told Anjanaa,”If you go and do penance on the Venkata giri, you will surely get a son you desire to have.”

Anjanaa took the permission of her husband and went to Venkta giri. She bathed in the Aakah Ganga and sat in deep penance. She breathed air and would not eat anything.

Vaayu Devan took pity on her and decided to help her in his own way. He would drop a ripe fruit in her hands. She would consider it as the divine prasaadam and eat it. This was happening everyday.

6#29c. நாரதரின் குடும்பம் (3)

“அழுதேன்; புலம்பினேன்; அரற்றினேன்;
அருகில் வந்து நின்றார் ஒரு கிழ அந்தணர்.

“மகன் என்றும், பேரன் என்றும் மாறாத பாசம்;
மாடுகள் என்றும், மாளிகை என்றும் ஒரு பந்தம்;

துக்கத்தின் காரணம் இந்த பந்த பாசம் தான்!
துக்கத்தைக் துடைக்கத் தூக்கி எறி பாசத்தை!

யார் நீ? யார் இவர்கள் இதற்கு முன்பு?
எப்படி வந்தது பந்தமும், சொந்தமும் கூறு!

சிந்தித்துப்பார் பந்தம், சொந்தம் பற்றி – சம்
பந்தமே இல்லை உனக்கும், இவர்களுக்கும்.

கடைத் தேறும் வழியை எண்ணுவாய் – உன்
கடமை உன் ஆத்மாவைக் கடைத் தேற்றுவது!”

தடாகத்துக்கு என்னை அழைத்துச் சென்றனர்.
“விடாது தொடரும் துயரம் மறைந்து விடும்.

கனவைக் கற்பனையைப் போன்றது வாழ்வு.
கணத்தில் மாறிவிடும் முங்கி நீராடு!” என்றனர்.

பெண்ணாக முங்கினேன் தடாக நீரினில்;
ஆணாக எழுந்தேன் தடாக நீரிலிருந்து.

மறைந்து விட்டது பெண்ணின் உருவம்;
மறுபடி ஆகிவிட்டேன் நாரத முனியாக!

மறைந்து விட்டார் கிழ அந்தணர் அப்போது;
மறைகள் போற்றும் நாரணன் நின்றார் அங்கு!

மாயையைச் செய்தவன் மாலவன் அல்லவா?
மயக்கத்தைத் தந்தது அந்த மாயை அல்லவா?

“போகலாம் வா நாரதா நகருக்கு!” என்றார்.
புகல முடியவில்லை பெண் ஆன கதையை !”

6#29c. Naaradaa’s family (3)

"I wept bitter tears. I lamented. I was inconsolable. An old brahmin came and stood by my side. He spoke to me,”Sons and grandsons bind you with their love and affection. The property and belongings bind you to samsaaraa.

The cause of your misery is your affection and your attachment to these people and things. If you want to get rid of your sorrows throw away your affection and cast away your attachments.

Who are you? Who are these people? How do you come to know them? Who were they previously? How did you get attached to them ? Why did you get attached to them? Think of these things.

You are not related to or connected to anything you think you are. Think of saving your soul and escaping from this delusion called samsaaraa. You duty is to realize your real self and save it.”

Then I was taken to a pond and told to take dip to get rid of my sorrows and sufferings. I obeyed and took a dip in that pond. I was a woman when I went under the surface of water and a man when I rose above the surface of water. The mysterious old brahmin had as mysteriously disappeared as he had appeared earlier.

Lo and behold! Lord Naaraayan stood in his place. He told me “Come on Naarada! Let us go into the city” The delusion was caused by Maayaa. The Maayaa was caused by Lord Vishnu.

I could not tell him about my recent adventures as a woman. I am sure there was no need for me to tell it to him either.”

13r. துளவச் செடி

சலந்தரனின் உடலில் எழுந்தார் மால்,
சலந்தரன் உயிர் பிழைத்ததைப் போல்.

கணவனைத் தழுவி மகிழ்ந்தாள் அவள்;
கணவனுடன் நுகர்ந்தாள் இல்லற இன்பம்.

மாயத்தால் சலந்தரன் போன்றே மாறி
நேயத்துடன் இல்லறம் நடத்தினார் மால்.

மாயத்தை மறந்துவிட்டார் மால் ஒருநாள்.
“நேயம் நான் கொண்டது திருமால் மீதா?”

கற்பைக் கெடுத்துச் சூறையாடியவன் மீது
கற்புக்கரசி வீசினாள் பல சாபங்களை!

“அரிமா உருவில் வந்த உன் காவலர்-உன்
அரிய பகைவர்களாக ஆகக் கடவது!

குரங்குகளாக வந்தனர் உன் காவலர்.
குரங்குகளோடு நீ அலைந்து திரிவாய்!

கணவனைப் போல் என்னோடு கூடினாய்
கணவனாகி உன் மனைவியைப் பிரிவாய்!”

தீயிற் புகுந்து உயிர் துறந்த விருந்தை
தூய கற்புக்கு இலக்கணம் ஆனாள்.

விருந்தையின் வெந்த சாம்பல் மீது
வீழ்ந்து புரண்டு புலம்பினார் மால்.

திருமாலின் நிலை கேட்ட உமாதேவி
பெரிதும் மனம் கலங்கி வாடினாள்.

உருவாக்கினாள் ஓர் அரிய விதையை.
பிரமனிடம் தந்து சாம்பலில் இட்டாள்.

தூயத் துளவச் செடி ஒன்று வளர்ந்தது;
துளவம் அழகிய பெண்ணாக மாறியது!

விருந்தையை மறந்து விட்டார் திருமால்;
விரும்பினார் புதியத் துளவப் பெண்ணை.

மணம் நடத்தினர் பிரமன் ஆதி தேவர்கள்.
மாலின் மனைவியும், மாலையும் ஆனாள்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

07. அஞ்சனாத்ரி

வந்தனர் அங்கே சிவனும், உமையும்.
மந்திகள் கூடிக் களிப்பதைக் கண்டனர்.

இன்புற விரும்பினர் தாமும் அவ்விதமே ;
இருவரும் மாறினர் இரண்டு மந்திகளாக!

பரம சிவனிடம் வெளிப்பட்ட தேஜசைப்
பிரசாதமாகத் தந்துவிட்டான் வாயு அன்று!

கனி என்று எண்ணிப் புசித்துவிட்டாள்!
கனி அல்ல அது; சிவனுடைய தேஜஸ்!

அசரீரி கேட்டது அஞ்சனைக்கு அப்போது;
“அசாதரணமான மகன் பிறப்பான் உனக்கு!

மகேஸ்வரனின் ஒரு அருட்பிரசாதமாக;
மகா பலவானாக; ஒரு மகா பண்டிதனாக;

மகா பக்தனாக, ஒரு சிரஞ்சீவியாக!” என்று.
மனம் நிம்மதி கொண்டாள் தேவிஅஞ்சனை.

வானர உருவில் வந்து பிறந்தான் மகன்,
வானில் பாய்ந்து சென்று விளையாடினான்.

கனி எனக் கருதினான் செங்கதிரவனை!
இனித்துச் சுவைக்கப் பறிக்கச் சென்றான்.

தடுத்தான் பிரம்மாஸ்திரத்தால் பிரமன்;
தரையில் விழுந்தான் குழந்தை மயங்கி!

அஞ்சனையின் கண்ணீருக்கு அளவில்லை.
அஞ்சி ஓடிவந்தனர் தேவர்கள் அவர்களிடம்.

“பாலகனுக்கு இல்லை என்றுமே ஆபத்து!
பாலகனுக்கு இல்லை என்றுமே மரணம்!”

தேவ கானமும், சாஸ்திர ஞானமும் தந்து,
தேஹ வலிமை, தொண்டு மனப்பான்மை,

வாக்கில் சாதுர்யம், மனதில் பூரண பக்தி,
திக்கெட்டும் பரவிய புகழ், அஷ்டசித்திகள்;

அனைத்தும் தந்தனர் அஞ்சனை மகனுக்கு;
“இனியொருவர் இணையாகார் இவனுக்கு!

புனிதத் தலம் விளங்கிடும் புவனத்தில்
இனி அஞ்சனாத்ரி என்று உன் பெயரால்.”
