KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

13k. கபாலம் ஏந்தியது

திருமாலும், நான்முகனும் இருந்தனர்
மேருவின் கொடுமுடியில் முன்னாள்.

முனிவர்கள் வினவினர் இருவரிடமும்
“முழு முதற் கடவுள் யார் என்று கூறும்”

மாயையின் வசப்பட்ட மாலும், பிரமனும்
“யாமே முழு முதற்கடவுள்” என்றனர்.

“படைக்கும் கடவுள் நானே பெரியவன்”
படைத்தவன் உன்னை நானே அறிவாய்!”

போரிடலாயினர் கருத்து மாறுபாட்டால்;
“யார் பெரியவர்?” என்ற பிரச்சனையால்!

போரை மூட்டியவர் கலைந்து சென்றனர்.
நேரே வந்தனர் உருமாறிவிட்ட இருவர்.

பிரணவமும், மறையும் அங்கு வந்தன.
“பிரானே முழு முதற்கடவுள்!” என்றன.

இருவரின் மோதலை விலக்கி விடத்
திருவுளம் கொண்டார் சிவபெருமான்.

பேரொளி ஒன்று தோன்றியது அங்கு!
பேரொளியில் மயங்கி நின்றது உலகு.

உணர்ந்தார் மால் ஒளியினில் ஈசனை ,
வணங்கினார் மன மயக்கம் ஒழித்து.

மயக்கம் நீங்காத நான்முகனோ எனில்
தயக்கம் இன்றியே இகழ்ந்தான் ஈசனை.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13k. The skull.

Brahma and Vishnu were seated on mount Meru. Some rushis asked them,” Who is the supreme god?”

Overcome by Maya each of these gods claimed that he was the supreme god.

Brahma said, “I am the creator!” Vishnu said, “I created you, remember?”

They could not come to a conclusion and started fighting between themselves.

The rushis who had caused this rift went away. Two things came there disguised. They were the Vedas and the Pranava. They both said that Siva was the supreme God.

Siva decided that it was time to put a full stop to this mindless fighting between Gods. He appeared as huge beam of light there.

Vishnu recognized that it was Siva himself. He came out if his delusions and worshiped Siva. Brahma did not come out if his delusion. He continued talking ill of Siva and Vishnu.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

31e. சுக க்ஷேத்ரம்

போற்றினார் லக்ஷ்மியை சாயா சுகர்;
போற்றினர் லக்ஷ்மியை மும்மூர்த்திகள்;

போற்றினர் லக்ஷ்மியை தேவ கந்தர்வர்;
போற்றினர் லக்ஷ்மியை முனி புங்கவர்கள்.

பிரமன் வேண்டினான் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியிடம்,
“தர வேண்டும் பத்ம தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடினால்

அஷ்ட ஐஸ்வரியங்களையும் அள்ளி அள்ளி!
கஷ்டங்கள் எல்லாம் தொலைய வேண்டும்!

ஆலயம் அமைக்கும் எண்ணம் கொண்டேன்;
அனுமதி வேண்டும் அதை இங்கு அமைக்க!"

“சுக க்ஷேத்திரத்தை விடுத்தது என்னுடன்
சேஷாச்சலம் நீயும் வரவேண்டும் தேவி”

பகவான் கூறினான் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியிடம்,
பகவானுக்கு பதில் அளித்தாள் லக்ஷ்மி.

"சுக க்ஷேத்திரத்தில் இருக்க விருப்பம்;
இக பரம் தர வேண்டும் என் பக்தருக்கு!”

விசுவகர்மா அமைத்தான் ஆலயத்தை!
விசுவாசி சாயா சுகர் ஆராதனைகளை!

"செல்வதை வாரி வாரி வழங்குவாய் நீ!
செல்வர் என்னை வந்து தொழுத பின்பே.”

“கார்த்திகை மாதம் சுக்கில பஞ்சமியன்று
காத்திருப்பேன் தங்கள் மாலை, சேலைக்கு!

மறக்காமல் தர வேண்டும் ஆண்டுதோறும்!”
இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி.

சுக க்ஷேத்திரத்தில் குடி கொண்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி
சேஷாச்சலத்தில் குடி கொண்டான் பகவான்.

மலர்ந்த தாமரை மேல் தோன்றியவளை
அலர்மேல் மங்கை என அழைக்கின்றனர்.

வேங்கடேச புராணம் முற்றுப் பெற்றது.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#31e. Suka kshetram

Sage Sukar praised Lakshmi Devi. The Trinity praised Lakshmi Devi. The Deva and Gandharva praised Lakshmi Devi. The sages praised Lakshmi Devi. Everyone praised her.

Brahma requested Lakshmi Devi to grant a boon to the world. “Whosoever bathes in this Padma theertham must be blessed with all kinds of wealth by you Devi! All their sins must get washed away. Also I wish to build a temple for you here in this spot. I need your permission Devi”

Srinivaasan told Lakshmi Devi, “Please come with me to Seshaachlalm.” But Lakshmi replied , “I wish to stay here in Suka Kshetram itself. I want to bless my devotees with the best in this world and the next. ”

Viswakarma built a temple worthy of Lakshmi Devi. Chaayaa Sukar arranged for the various pooja and aaraadhanaa. Srinivaasan told Lakshmi Devi, “Bless your devotees with immense wealth. Those who come here to worship you, will come to worship me in Seshaachalam, before going back.”

Lakshmi Devi made a request to Srinivaasan. “Please send me a new sari and a garland on the Sukla Panchami day in the month of Kaarthigai. I shall eagerly await these gifts from you every year. ”

Lakshmi Devi settled own in her temple in Suga Kshetram. Srinivaasan settled down in his temple in Seshaachalam. Devotees throng to worship these gods and get their blessings and grace.

Since Lakhmi appeared on the lotus flower with one thousand petals, she is known as Alarmel Mangai.

6#27a. வினோதத் திருமணம் (1)

மன்னனிடம் கூறினாள் தோழி செய்தியை;
மன்னன் கூறினான் பட்டத்து ராணியிடம்.

“அருமை மகள் இழந்துவிட்டால் மதியை!
விரும்புகின்றாள் குரங்கு முக நாரதனை!

ஆண்டி ஆவான் அந்த மந்தி முகன்;
அரசிளங்குமரி இவள் அழகிய பெண்.

ஒரு போதும் சம்மதியேன் இதற்கு நான்;
பொருத்தமானவனை மணக்கப் புத்தி சொல்!”

அரசி செய்தாள் அரசன் இட்ட பணியை
சிரமேற்கொண்டு முழு கவனத்துடன்.

“பேரழகுப் பெட்டகம் நீ; மந்தி முகன் அவன்;
பூக்கும் பூங்கொடி நீ; வாடிய வற்றல் அவன்;

மாசு மருவற்ற உன்னால் பேசமுடியுமா சொல்?
நேசம் கொள்வதற்கும் தராதரம் இல்லையா?

முல்லைக் கொடி வேம்பின் மீது படர்ந்தால்
தொல்லை முல்லைக் கொடிக்கு அன்றோ?

வருந்துவார்கள் உன்னைக் காண்பவர்கள்;
அருவருப்பு இன்றி வாழ முடியுமா உன்னால்?”

“உண்மை தான் நீ கூறுவது என் அன்னையே.
உடலால் அழகன் ஒரு மூடனாக இருந்தாலோ?

ஆற்றல் இல்லாதவனுக்கு அரசு எதற்கு?
ஆறுமே மனம் இன்னிசை வெள்ளத்தில்!

இசைக்கு வசப்படும் பசுக்கள், பறவைகள்;
இசைக்கு வசப்படும் குழந்தை, தெய்வம்.

இசை வல்லுநர் கின்னரர் பெற்றுள்ளனர்
இயற்கைக்கு மாறான குதிரை முகங்கள்.

மதிக்கின்றார்கள் தேவர்கள் இசை ஞானத்தை;
மிதிக்கவில்லை குதிரை முகக் கோமாளி என்று.

மூடனோடு வாழ்ந்தால் மூச்சு முட்டும் – இசையில்
மூழ்கடிக்கச் செய்கிறவருடன் வாழ்வதால் அல்ல!”

6#27a. The strange wedding ( 1 )

Damayanti’s friend went told the matter to the king. He told it to his queen. “Our daughter has lost her mind. She wants to marry the monkey-faced-Narada. He is a pauper in addition to being monkey-faced.

I will never give my consent for this alliance. Go and talk to your daughter and make her see good sense” The queen spoke to her daughter as commanded by the king.

“Listen to me my dear girl! You are a pretty princess. Narada is a monkey faced pauper. You look fresh like a creeper laden with fragrant flowers. He is all dried up like a twig.

Even for falling in love, you have to heed to some basic qualifications. If a jasmine creeper climbs on a Neem tree, it will the jasmine plant and not the Neem tree that will suffer as a result.

Whosoever sees you both will feel very sorry for the mismatch. Can you spend your entire life with him without ever feeling sorry that you had made a wrong choice?'”

Princess Damayanti spoke now,”My dear mother! I fully agree with every word you tell me. What happens if a handsome man is also a total fool? Of what use is a kingdom for one who does not have the power to protect it?

Music enchants everyone and everything. The birds, the beasts, the babies and the gods are all attracted by the divine music. Kinnaraas are expert musicians and they have the heads of horses. No one ever makes fun of their horse faces but everybody respects their musical talents.

I will suffocate if I am forced to live with a fool by marrying him. I will never feel sorry if I marry Narada who can make me forget the whole world by his divine and captivating music.”

13l. கபாலம் ஏந்தியது

பெருமான் படைத்தார் வயிரவரை.
பெருமான் பணித்தார் வயிரவரை,

“நான்முகனின் உச்சித் தலை இன்று
நம்மை மிகவும் இகழ்ந்து பேசியது.

அந்தத் தலையை நீ கிள்ளி எடு!
அவனுக்கு மீண்டும் உயிரைக் கொடு!

செல்வாய் முனிவர் தேவரிடம்;
கொள்வாய்க் குருதியை ஐயமாக.

இறந்தவர் உயிரை மீட்டுக் கொடு!
பிழைத்தவர் ஆணவம் மாற்றிவிடு!

இருப்பாய் உனக்கு அமைத்த இடத்தில்!
இரட்சிப்பாய் நீ மனிதரை, தேவரை!”

ஒளியில் மறைந்து அருளினார் ஈசன்;
ஒளியும் மறைந்து போனது பின்னர்.

திருமால் திரும்பினர் தம் இருப்பிடம்.
பிரமனின் கதையோ வேறு விதமானது!

பிரமனின் உச்சித் தலையைக் கிள்ளி,
வயிரவர் ஏந்தினர் தம் கரங்களில்.

இறந்து கீழே விழுந்தான் நான்முகன்;
குருதிப் பெருக்குச் சூழ்ந்தது உலகை!

நெற்றிக் கண்ணில் தீயை உண்டாக்கி
வற்றச் செய்தார் குருதிப் பெருக்கை.

நான்முகனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார் உயிர்.
நான்முகனுக்குத் தந்தார் நல்லறிவு

வேண்டினான் பிரமன் பிழை பொறுத்திட,
வேண்டினான் பிரமன் தலையை ஏந்திட.

குருதியைப் பலியை ஏற்ற வயிரவர்
இறுதியாக அடைந்தார் இருப்பிடம்.

6#13L. The skull in the hand.

Siva created Bhairavar. He ordered him,”Brahma’s topmost head spoke ill of me today. Puck that head off but bring him back to life. Go to the rushis and Devas.

Receive Blood as the bali. Bring back to life whoever dies but kill their pride. You live in the place allotted for you and continue save the humans and the Devas”.

Siva disappeared into the beam of light. Later the beam of light also disappeared. Vishnu returned to his abode. But Brahma’s fate was different.

Bhairavar plucked off the topmost head of Brahma and he dropped dead. The flow of blood filled the wold. Bhairavar opened his fiery third eye and made the blood flow dry up. He brought back Brahma to life. He gave good sense to Brahma.

Brahma begged for pardon and requested Bhairavar to carry his skull. After receiving blood and the bali, Bhairavar returned to his abode.

Venkatesa puraanam

01. தீர்த்த மஹிமை

தீர்த்தமாட விரும்பினான் ஓரந்தணன்;
யாத்திரை நீளும் நெடுங் காலம் என்று

உற்றார் உறவினரிடம் விடை பெற்றுப்
பிற்பாடு யாத்திரை செல்வது வழக்கம்.

கனவிலே தோன்றினார் மஹாவிஷ்ணு!
“கருதுகின்றாய் அகல தீர்த்த யாத்திரை!

புஷ்கர சைலம் என்பது சேஷாச்சலம்;
புனித தீர்த்தங்கள் பதினேழு உள்ளன.

புவனமெங்கும் உள்ள தீர்த்தங்கள் அப்
புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்களிலும் உள்ளன!

சகல பாவங்களிலிருந்து விடுதலையும்,
சகல சம்பத்துக்களும் கிடைப்பது உறுதி.

நாடெங்கும் அலைந்து திரிய வேண்டாம்.
நாடுவாய் நீ சேஷாச்சலத்தை!” என்றார்.

பழம் நழுவிப் பாலில் விழுந்தது – மேலும்
பலன் இரண்டுக்கும் ஒரு போலானது.

பதினேழு தீர்த்தங்களிலும் சென்று நீராடிப்
பரம பாவனம் அடைந்தார் அந்த அந்தணர்.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

01. The greatness of the theertam.

A Brahmin wanted to go on a theerta yaaathra. It would take many months in olden days. It was customary to take leave of all one’s kith and kin before setting out on such a journey.

Vishnu appeared in the dream of the Brahmins and said, “You are contemplating on a teertha yaatra. Pushkaram is the Seshaachalam . There are seventeen different theertams there. In fact they represent all the holy theertams of the whole word.

If you take a holy dip in all of them, you will be rid of all the sins committed earlier. It will bestow on you all the ashta aiswaraym. You need not travel the length and breadth of this country. Just go to Seshaahchalam!”

The Brahmin felt very happy since it would save his precious time and a lot of expenditure. He went to Seshaachalam and bathed in all the seventeen theerthama and got purified.

6#27b. வினோதத் திருமணம் (2)

“மூவுலகிலும் இணையில்லாத கானம் செய்பவர்
முகத்தினால் கெட்டுப் போவது எதுவும் இல்லை.

வரித்து விட்டேன் நாரதரைக் கண்டவுடனேயே;
பரிந்துரைத்து மணம் செய்வியுங்கள் எமக்கு.”

மாறவில்லை மகளின் மனம் என்றறிந்ததும்
முறைப்படி நடத்தி வைத்தனர் திருமணத்தை.

தங்கிவிட்டேன் அங்கேயே மணமான பிறகு.
தங்கி விட்டது துக்கம் மனதில் நிரந்தரமாக.

வருந்தவில்லை தமயந்தி என் முகம் கண்டு!
வருந்தினேன் நான் தமயந்தியின் முகம் கண்டு!

வந்தார் பர்வத முனிவர் என்னைக் காண்பதற்கு;
வருந்தினார் மனம் என் குரங்கு முகத்தைக் கண்டு.

“காட்டில் வசித்தால் இருக்காது மனவேதனை;
நாட்டில் வசிக்கிறீர் இளவரசியின் கணவனாக!

பரிவு பெருகுகிறது அரசகுமாரியை நினைத்தால்;
தெளிவு பிறக்கிறது நான் செய்த தவறு என்பதால்.

தருகின்றேன் என் புண்ணிய பலனை உமக்கு;
மறுபடி மாறட்டும் முகம் முன்போல் அழகாக”

கருணை காட்டிய பர்வத முனிவருக்குக்
கருணை காட்டி மாற்றினேன் என் சாபத்தை.

அழகிய முகம் உண்டாயிற்று மீண்டும்!
பழகிய முகம் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தாள் தமயந்தி.

அன்னையிடம் கூறினாள் நற்செய்தியை!
அன்னை கூறினாள் மன்னனிடம் செய்தி!

ஆனந்தம் அடைந்தனர் அழகிய முகம் கண்டு;
அனைத்துச் சிறப்புகளும் அளித்தனர் உவந்து.

6#27b. The strange wedding (2)

Damayanti convinced her mother by saying, “No one can sing as well as Narada in the three worlds. I do not care about his face or his features! The moment I set my eyes on him, I had chosen him as my future husband. Please get us married as per our custom.”


When the king the and queen found out that their daughter stuck to her decision, they duly got her married to me – Narada. I stayed on at the palace after the wedding. But my mind was always sorrowful – worrying about my monkey face.

Damayanti never worried about my face but I worried about her all the more.

One day Parvata rushi came to visit me. He felt bad seeing me monkey-faced. He said, “It will not matter much if you happen to live in a jungle with this kind of a face. But living in a palace as the husband of a princess!


My heart melts with pity towards the good princess. I realize my folly due to my anger – which had made me temporarily mad. I happily utilize the good effect of my penance to restore your face to it original glory.”


I was touched by his concern and wanted to repay him for his kindness. I too removed the curse I had cast on him.


I got back my original face. Damayanti was overwhelmed and told her mother the good news. She conveyed it to the king. So there was joy everywhere. The king and queen bestowed on me lavish gifts now that I was suitable for their loving daughter.

13m. வேற்றுரு

இந்திரன் சென்றான் திருக்கயிலை
இந்து அணிந்த பிரானை வழிபட.

ஆணவம் ஓங்கி வளர்ந்திருந்தது
அவன் கோவிலை அடைந்தபோது.

பூதக் கோலம் பூண்டு வாயிலில்
பூத நாதன் சிவனும் நின்றான்.

வேற்றுருக் கொண்ட சிவபிரானின்
மாற்றத்தை அறியவில்லை இந்திரன்

“பார்த்ததில்லை உன்னை! புதியவனா?
பார்க்க வேண்டும் பெருமானை நான்!”

பதில் கூறவில்லை புதிய காவலன்!
மதியாதது கண்டு பொங்கியது சினம்.

குலிசப் படையை எறிந்தான் இந்திரன்;
குலிசம் உடைந்தது சுக்கு நூறாக!

சிவன் எடுத்தார் ருத்திர ரூபம்.
சினம் கொண்டு உரப்பி நின்றார்.

சீற்றம் கண்டு நடுங்கினான் இந்திரன்.
ஆற்றல் அழிந்து அடியில் விழுந்தான்.

“மாயையை அறியவல்லேன் அடியேன்!
நாயினும் கடையேனை மன்னியுங்கள்!”

சினத்தை எடுத்து வீசினர் மேற்கே!
சினம் தணிந்தார் சிவபெருமான்.

6#13m. The disguise.

Indra went to Kailash to worship Siva. He was in one of his proud moods. Siva stood disguised as a demon guarding Kailash. Indra spoke to him arrogantly, “Are you new to this place? I have never seen you before. I want to meet Siva!”

The new guard did not reply. Indra became very angry by being slighted thus. He threw his kulisam on the guard. It promptly broke into a hundred pieces.

Siva now took the form of Rudra. Indra got scared and fell at his feet begging pardon for his ignorance and arrogance. Siva took out his anger and threw it to the west. He became free of anger thus.

Venkatesa puraanam

02. சேஷாச்சலம்

நாரதர் சென்றார் திருப்பாற் கடலுக்கு;
நாரணனைத் தரிசித்தார் தேவியருடன்.

ஒளிர்ந்தது கௌஸ்துபம் மார்பினில்;
மிளிர்ந்தன நாரணனின் பஞ்சாயுதங்கள்.

“பூலோகத்தில் நான் திருவிளையாடல்
புரிவதற்கு ஏற்ற இடத்தைக் கூறு!” என்று

நாரணன் கேட்டான் நாரத முனிவரிடம்,
நாரதர் விண்ணப்பித்தார் நாரணனிடம்.

‘கங்க தீரத்துக்குத் தெற்கே உள்ளது
தண்டகாரண்யம் என்னும் ஓர் இடம்.

விண்ணோரும் மண்ணோரும் வந்து
தெண்டனிடத் தகுந்த இடம் ஆகும்.

தேவருஷி சென்றதும் நாரணன் – ஆதி
சேஷனுக்கு ஆணை இட்டார் இங்கனம்.

“மலை உருக் கொள்வாய் நீ அனந்தா!
சில காலம் தங்குவேன் பூவுலகினில் !”

“மலையாக மாறுகிறேன் ஆணைப்படி.
மலை மீது எழுந்தருளும் தேவியருடன்

இருப்பிடம் ஆகவேண்டும் என் தலை;
திருவடிகள் பதித்து நின்றிட வேண்டும்.

புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்கள் பலவற்றையும்
என்னிடம் நீங்கள் உருவாக்க வேண்டும்!”

அருள் செய்தான் நாரணன் அவ்வாறே
திருப் பாற்கடல் விடுத்தான் அனந்தன்.

மலையானான் தண்டகாரண்யத்தில்;
தலை ஆனது வேங்கடாச்சலமாக.

உடல் ஆகிவிட்டது அகோபிலமாக;
முடிவில் வால் ஆனது ஸ்ரீ சைலமாக.

அனந்தன் பூமியில் மலை ஆனபோது;
அருந்தவம் தொடங்கியது அவன் மீது.

வேங்கடேசனாகக் காட்சி தந்தருளினார்
வேங்கடமலையில் குடிகொண்ட நாரணன்.

VENKATESA PURAANAM

#02. Seshaachalam

Narada went to the Milk Ocean to have a dharshan of lord Naaraayan and his consorts. Naaraayan wore the brilliant Kousthubam to adorn his broad chest and his pancha aayudhams were sparkling.

Naaraayan asked Narada,”Please tell me a suitable spot on the earth since I want to live there in this Kali Yuga.”

Narada replied, “To the south of the banks of River Ganges, there is a very scenic place called DaNdakaaraNya. The Deva and manushya like that place alike. I am sure it will be the best spot for you to perform your mysterious leelaa!”

After Narada left, Naaraayan called Aadhiseshan and told him,” Become a huge mountain on the earth in DaNadakaaraNya. I want to live on the earth during Kali yuga.”

Aadhiseshan replied, “I shall become a mountain as told by you and You must
live on that mountain with your Devis. My head will become Seshaachalalm and you must settle down there. You must create a number of holy theertham on that mountain.”

Naaraayan agreed to this. Aadhiseshan left the Ocean of Milk and went down to the world. He transformed himself into a mountain. His head became Seshaachalam. His body became the Ahobilam and his feet the Sree Sailam.

Now all the tapasvis came to Seshaachalam to do their penance undisturbed. Naaraayan himself came down to live on the Seshaachalam and appears to everyone as Srinivaasan ever since then.

6#28a. நாரதர் பெண் ஆனார் (1)

பாற்கடலுக்குச் சென்றேன் பரந்தாமனைக் காண்பதற்கு.
பாடிக் கொண்டு சென்றேன் மஹதி வீணையை இசைத்து.

உல்லாசமாக இருந்தனர் லக்ஷ்மி தேவியும், விஷ்ணுவும்.
சல்லாபம் தடைபட்டு விட்டது என் திடீர் வரவினால்.

நாணத்தோடு ஓடி ஒளிந்து கொண்டாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி;
நாராயணனிடம் வினவினேன் நான் இதைக் குறித்து.

“வென்றுள்ளேன் நான் ஐம்புலன்களையும் என்றறிவீர்.
வென்றுள்ளேன் மாயையை, சினத்தை என்றும் அறிவீர்.

தேடி வந்தேன் பாற்கடலுக்கு உங்கள் தரிசனம் பெற.
ஓடி ஒளிந்து கொண்டு விட்டாள் அன்னை லக்ஷ்மிதேவி”

கர்வம் தொனித்தது என் குரலில் சிறிது என்பதை
சர்வமும் அறிந்த நாராயணன் கண்டு கொண்டார்.

“இனிமையானது உன் மஹதியின் ஸ்வரங்கள்.
இனிமையானது உன் சாதுர்யமான மொழிகள்.

மாயையை வென்றுவிட்டேன் என்கின்றாய் நீ!
மாயையின் தலைவன் சிவனும் இதைக் கூறார்!

வெல்ல முடியவில்லை மாயையை யோகிகளால்;
வெல்ல முடியவில்லை மாயையை முனிவர்களால்;

வெல்ல முடியவில்லை மாயையைத் தேவர்களால்;
வெல்ல முடியவில்லை மாயையைத் தெய்வங்களால்.

முக்குணங்கள் பொருந்தி உள்ள ஒருவனால்
எக்காலத்திலும் வெல்ல முடியாது மாயையை!”

6#28a. Naarada became a woman (1)

Naarada continued his explanation to sage Vyaasaa. “I went to the Ocean Of Milk one day to have a darshan of Lord Naaraayan. I went singing and playing my Mahati veena.

Lakshmi Devi and Naaraayan were enjoying the pleasures of solitude at that time. They were disturbed by my unexpected visit. Lakshmi Devi ran away from there feeling shy.

I told Lord Naaraayan with some pride in my voice,”I have conquered all my sense organs. I have conquered my anger and delusion due to Maayaa. Why should Lakshmi Devi feel shy seeing me here?”

Lord Naaraayan was surprised by the note of pride in my words and said, ” Your Mahati veena makes very good music. You make very good declarations. Even Lord Siva – who is the master of Maayaa – will not daringly make such a declaration.

Yogis, rushis, Devaas and Gods are unable to come out of delusions of Maayaa. As long as the three guNaas exist, Maayaa can not be transcended.”

13n. சலந்தரன்

கடலில் விழுந்த சிவனின் சினம்
உடனே மாறியது ஒரு குழவியாக!

எடுத்து வளர்த்தான் அதைக் கடலரசன்
கெடுத்தது அக்குழந்தை அமைதியை.

அழுகுரல் கேட்டு வந்த நான்முகனின்
மடியில் கிடத்தினான் அதை வருணன்.

நான்முகனின் நான்கு தாடிகளையும்
நன்கு பற்றிக் கொண்டு உறங்கியது!

“சிவபெருமானின் சினத்தில் தோன்றிய
இவன் வணங்கான் ஒரு கடவுளையும்!

மேன்மைகள் பெற விரும்பான் இவன்!
மேலான போர் வீரனாகத் திகழ்வான்!

நெடுங்காலம் உயிர் வாழ்வான் இவன்.
கொடுங்கோல் ஆட்சி புரிவான் இவன்!”

சிவனால் மட்டுமே அழிவுண்டு – வேறு
எவனாலும் அழிவில்லை இவனுக்கு.

சலந்தரன் எனப் பெயரிட்டான் பிரமன்;
சலந்தரன் வளர்ந்தான் மிகச் செல்லமாக.

வளர்ந்தபின் இணைந்தான் அவுணருடன்;
அளவில்லாத கொடுமைகள் புரிந்தான்.

திக்குகள் அனைத்தையும் வென்றான்;
திக்கற்ற தேவர் ஒளிந்தனர் மேருவில்.

சாலந்தரம் என்னும் நகரை அமைத்து,
சலந்தரன் புரிந்தான் கொடுங்கோலாட்சி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#13n. Jalandaran.

Siva’s anger thrown out in the west fell in the sea and became a male child. Varuna adopted the child as his own. The child kept on crying disturbing the peace of the worlds. Brahma visited Varuna. The child was laid on his lap. It held on tightly to the beards in all the four faces of Brahma and slept soundly.

Brahma prophesied the child’s future.”Born out of Siva’s anger, this boy will never worship any God. He will not strive for greatness through penance. He will be a good warrior. He will live long and be a tyrant ruler. None but Siva can destroy him.” The child was named as Jalandran.

When he became an adult he joined the side of the asuras. He conquered all the four directions. He became a merciless tyrant. The Devas were driven out of swarga and took refuge in Mount Meru. He made the city Jaalandram as his capital and ruled his country.

VENKATESA PURANAM

03. நாராயணாத்ரி

நாராயண முனிவர் ஒரு நல்ல தபஸ்வி.
நாராயணனைத் தேடியலைந்தார் எங்கும்.

காட்சி தரவில்லை நாராயணன் அவருக்கு;
மாட்சிமை பொருந்திய தவம் செய்வித்திட.

பிரமனைக் குறித்துத் தவம் செய்தார்.
பிரமன் கேட்டான்,” என்ன வரம் தேவை?”

“நாரணனைத் தரிசிக்கத் தவம் செய்தேன்.
காரணம் என்னவோ காண முடியவில்லை!

காணும் வழியினைக் கூறுங்கள் சுவாமி!
காணும் பாக்கியத்தை அருளுங்கள் சுவாமி!”

“கோனேரிக் கரையிலே சேஷாச்சலத்திலே
கோவில் கொண்டுள்ளார் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணன்.

தவம் செய்வீர் நீர் சேஷாச்சலம் சென்று!
தவமும் பலிக்கும்; தரிசனமும் கிடைக்கும்”

சேஷாச்சலம் அடைந்தார் முனிபுங்கவர்;
செய்தார் கடும் தவம் பன்னெடுங் காலம்!

தேவியுடன் காட்சி தந்தான் நாரயணன்;
“தேவை எதுவோ கூறுங்கள்!” என்றான்.

“தரிசனம் வேண்டித் திரிந்தேன் – எங்கும்
தரிசனம் கிடைக்காமல் தவித்தேன் நான்.

பிரமன் கூறினார் இங்கு தவம் புரியுமாறு,
அரிய தரிசனம் பெற்றேன் உமது அருளால்!

முனிவர்களுக்கே கடினமான இத் தவத்தை
மனிதர்கள் செய்வது எங்கனம் சாத்தியம் ?

புனிதத் தலத்திலேயே தங்கி வசிப்பீர்!
மனிதர்களுக்கும் ஆசிகள் வழங்குவீர்!

என் பெயரால் விளங்க வேண்டும் – நீர்
எனக்கு தரிசனம் தந்த இந்த இடம்” என,

“நிறைவேற்றுவேன் உம் கோரிக்கையை.
நித்தியவாசம் செய்வேன் இந்தத் தலத்தில்.

தீரும் வரும் அடியவர் குறைகள் எல்லாம்!
பேரும் விளங்கும் நாராயணாத்திரி என்று!”

#03. NaaraayaNaadri

Sage NaaraayaNa wanted to have a dharshan of Lord Naarayan. He went everywhere looking for him but in vain. Lord Naarayan did not give his dharshan the the sage NaaraayaNa.

Sage NaaraayaNa did severe penance on Brahma – who became pleased with the sage and appeared in person. The sage NaaraayaNa asked Brahma, “How can I get a dharshan of Lord Naaaryan?

What must I do to get his dharshan?”

Brahma replied to the sage,” Lord Naaraayan is now living in Seshaachalam as Srinivasan. Go to Seshaachalam and do penance there. You will get a dharshan of Lord Naaraayan.”

Sage NaaraayaNa reached the Seshaachalam and did severe penance for a very long time. Lord Naaraayan appeared with his Devi and wished to grant a boon to the sage.

“I tried in vain to get your dharshan for a very long time. Brahma told me to perform penance in this place. I am glad it bore fruit and you gave me a dharshan. But I am curious to know this. If this kind of penance is difficult even for a sage like me, how will the ordinary mortals ever get your dharshan?

I wish you will live here for ever to give your dharshan to all your devotees and bless them with whatever they wish for. This place where you have given me your dharshan must be known by my name as NaaraayaNaadri in the future.”
