21a. பிரியா விடை
ஆகாசராஜன், தரணி தேவி திரும்பிப்
போகாமல் உடன் சென்றனர் வெகுதூரம்,
ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் சொன்னான் பத்மாவதியிடம்,
“இனிமையாகப் பேசித் திருப்பி அனுப்பி விடு!”
தேற்றினாள் பத்மாவதி தாய் தந்தையரை,
“ஏற்க வேண்டும் தவிர்க்க இயலாத பிரிவை!”
சேஷாச்சலம் செல்லவில்லை ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்
சென்றனர் அகத்தியரின் ஆசிரமத்த்ூக்கு.
சுவர்ணமுகி நதித் தீரத்த்ை அடைந்தனர்;
பர்ணசாலை அமைத்தனர் மணமக்களுக்கு.
இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்
தந்தார் பிரமன் பொன்னும் மணியும் பரிசாக
கரவீர புரம் திரும்பினாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி;
தர விரும்பினாள் தடையில்லாத ஆனந்தம்.
ஆடிப்பாடிக்காலம் கழித்தனர் மணமக்கள்;
ஓடை நீரில் இறங்கி விளையாடினர்.
மலருடன் சென்று ஆராதித்தாள்
மறவாமல் அனுதினம் வகுளமாலிகை.

21. The happy couple
Akaasa Raajan and DharaNi Devi accompanied Srinivaasan and Padmaavati for a very long distance. They could not think of going away from Padmaavati. Srinivaasan told her, “Talk to your parents and make them realise that this separation is unavoidable.”
Padmaavati spoke to them explaining the situation and they returned to their palace. Srinivaasan did not want to go back to the anthill in Seshaachalam.
He went to the ashram of sage Agasthya instead. The sage was very happy to have the newly married couple stay in his place. He got a new parNa saala made ready for them
All the Deva went back to their respective places. Brahma presented gold and gem stones to the couple. Lakshmi Devi went back to Karaveera Puram – since she did not want to disturb the happiness of the newly weds.
Their time was spent in dancing, singing and playing in the river water. VaguLa Maalikaa went and worshipped her god every day with fresh flowers. The wives of the rushis decorated Padmaavati with flowers in the evenings.
One day a soldier came on a horseback. He brought bad news. The king Aakaasa Rajan was ill and the Queen had sent for them . A chariot was made ready and Srinivaasan and Padmaavati rushed to NaaraayaNa puram immediately.

மறக்கவில்லை விஸ்வாமித்திரர் – தன் சொல்லை
மதிக்கவில்லை அரிச்சந்திரன் என்ற உண்மையை.
எதிர் நோக்கி இருந்தார் பழி வாங்குவதற்கு;
எதிர் நோக்கி இருந்த சந்தர்ப்பம் வாய்த்தது.
வேட்டைக்கு வந்த அரிச்சந்திர மன்னனிடம்
கேட்டுப் பெற்றார் அவன் நாடு, நகரங்களை.
அந்தணர் வடிவைத் துறந்து விட்டுத் தன்னுடைய
சொந்த வடிவைக் காட்டினர் பின்பு அவனுக்கு.
கோபம் கொண்டார் இதைக் கண்ட வசிஷ்டர்;
சாபம் தந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திர முனிவருக்கு.
“கெட்ட எண்ணத்துடன் காத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தீர்
கேட்டு மொத்த சொத்தையும் விழுங்குவதற்கு.
கொக்கு மீனுக்காகக் காத்திருப்பதுபோலவே.
கொக்காகக் கடவீர் நீர் விஸ்வாமித்திரரே ! என;
கோபம் பொது சொத்தாயிற்றே முனிவர்களுக்கு;
கோபம் வந்தது இப்போது விஸ்வாமித்திரருக்கு.
சாபம் தந்தார் தன் பங்குக்குத் தனக்குக் கொடிய
சாபம் தந்த வசிஷ்ட முனிவருக்கு விஸ்வாமித்திரர்.
“இருப்பேன் நான் கொக்காக எத்தனை காலமோ
இருப்பீர் நீர் ஆடிப் பறவையாக அத்தனை காலம்!”
பிறந்தனர் இருவரும் பிற்பாடு இரு பறவைகளாக;
பிறந்தனர் இருவரும் மானசரோவரில் ஒருபோல.

Viswaamitra neither forgot nor forgave King Harischandra for disobeying him and ignoring his good suggestions. He was waiting for an opportunity to punish the foolish king. He created an opportunity soon enough.
King Harischandra went for hunting. A poor old brahmin begged for some gifts from the King. The old brahmin – who was Viswaamitra in disguise – manipulated the king to donate his entire kingdom. Later on he revealed his true form to the king.
Vasishtaa became very angry when he learned about this treachery. He cursed Viswaamitra, “You were waiting to ruin King Harischandra like a crane waiting for a fish. May you be born as a crane”
Now Viswaamitra became angry and laid a counter curse on Vasishtaa, “May you be born as an Aadi bird and live as long as long as I live as a crane.”
The two rushis were born as these two birds sworn to enmity, in the same water body Maanasarovar.

4d. தக்கனின் சினம்.
திங்களின் செயலை அறிந்தான் தக்கன்;
பொங்கியது சினம் சிவபெருமான் மீது;
“தந்தையும், பாட்டனும் வந்து கேட்கவில்லை
தந்த சாபத்தை என்னிடம் விலக்கச் சொல்லி!
“அழிவின்றி நின்று ஐந்தொழில் புரிந்து உலகை
அழிக்கின்றேன் நான்’ என்ற சிவனது ஆணவமா?
புலகர் என்னும் தவச் சீலர் தக்கனுக்குப்
புகன்றார் நன்னெறிகள் பலவற்றை.
“இகழாதே சிவபெருமானை உன் நாவால்.
இகழ்ந்தால் அழிந்துவிடும் உன் செல்வம்!”
“நான் தவம் செய்து பெற்ற செல்வம்
என்னை விட்டு நீங்காது ஒருநாளுமே!
முன்னே தவம் செய்து பெற்ற மேன்மை
பின்னே அழிவது என்பது நடவாதது!”
“தக்கனே! நீ கூறுவது சிறிதும் நன்றன்று!
மிக்காரும் ஒப்பாரும் இல்லாதவன் சிவன்.
எக்காலத்திலும் பழித்திடல் கூடவே கூடாது!
முக்கண்ணனின் சிறப்பினை அறியாயோ நீ?
அன்பர்களுக்கு அருள் புரிந்து அவர்கள்
துன்பங்கள் நீக்குவது நம் சிவபெருமான்.
சந்திரன் சரண் அடைந்தான் சிவனிடம்.
சந்திரமௌலி குறையை மாற்றி விட்டார்.
மருமகன் அன்றோ சந்திரன் உனக்கு?
மருமகன் ஆவார் சிவனும் உனக்கு!”
சினம் தீர்ந்தான் நன்மொழிகள் கேட்டு
சிறப்பாக ஆட்சி செய்தான் தக்கன்.

Dakshan learned that Chandran had escaped from his curse with the help of Siva. Now his anger turned towards Siva.
“My father Brahma and grandfather Vishnu did not ask me to remove the curse put on Chandran. Why should Siva do it then? He is proud and conceited that he destroys everything without himself getting destroyed.”
Pulagar pacified Dakshan with his words of wisdom. “If you degrade Siva you will lose all your wealth given by him to you!”
Dakshan was haughty and said, “I did penance and got all my riches. No one, not even Siva himself can snatch them away from me!”
Pulagar continued, ” No you are completely wrong! Siva is the supreme God and he is second to none. Never ridicule him. Siva is full of mercy. He runs to help his devotees. He helped Chandran. After all Chandran is your son in law. Later Siva will become another son in law.”
Dakshan got pacified by these kind words and attended to his kingly duties well.

சோகமே வடிவாக தரணி தேவி அருகினில்!
இளவரசனும், இளவல் தொண்டைமானும்
இருந்தனர் கால் மாட்டில் அமர்ந்தபடி.
மகளைக் கண்டதும் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான்;
மருமகனைக் கண்டு நெகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான்.
ஒப்படைத்தான் இளவரசனை ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்;
ஒப்புக் கொள்ளச் செய்தான் அரசன் தன் அரசி
தரணியின் உடன்கட்டை ஏறும் முடிவினை.
தரணி வாழ்வினைத் துறந்தான் மன்னன்.
ஶுகர் செய்வித்த்ார் இறுதிச் சடங்குகள்
சிதை மூட்டினான் இளவரசன் வசுதானன்.
சர்வாலங்கார பூஷிதையாக தரணி தேவி
சுற்றி வந்தாள் எரியும் சிதையை மும்முறை.
தீயினில் புகுந்து விட்டாள் ஒரு நொடியில்!
தீ எரிந்தது கொழுந்து விட்டு வானளவாக!
வந்து இறங்கியது விண்ணிலிருந்து விமானம்;
வந்தனர் வெளியே திவ்யசரீரத்துடன் இருவரும்.

வேகமாக விண்ணில் பறந்து மறைந்தது அது!

Aakaasa Raajan was lying down on his cot. The Queen DharaNi Devi was seated near him. The prince Vasudaanaa and the king’s younger brother ThoNdaimaan were seated near his feet.
The king was happy to see his loving daughter Padmaavati. He felt moved by the presence of his son in law Srinivaasan. He entrusted Vasudaanaa under the care of Srinivaasan and made all of them promise that the queen would be allowed to follow sati after his death.
The king Aakaasa Raajan breathed his last peacefully. Sage Sugar performed his last rites. Vasudaanaa lighted the funeral pyre. The queen DharaNi Devi was decorated beautifully in silk and all her jewels.
She went round the burning pyre thrice and jumped into the fire in a trice. The tongues of the flame leaped heavenwards.
A vimaanam came down from the heaven. The king and queen emerged from the fire with their divya sareeram and got into the vimaanam. It took off and flew fast and was out of their sight in no time at all.

நீங்கவில்லை முன் ஜன்மத்துக் குரோதம்.
தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர் கூரிய நகங்களால்;
தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர் வலிய அலகுகளால்.
சித்த சுத்தி ஏற்பட்டு இருந்தால் இவ்வாறு
யுத்தம் செய்வார்களா? நன்கு சிந்திப்பாய்.”
“எப்படி விமோசனம் அடைந்தனர் இருவரும்?
எப்போது விமோசனம் அடைந்தனர் இருவரும்?”
“வருந்தினான் மனம் பிரமன் இதைக் கண்டதும்;
வசிஷ்டர் பிரமதேவனின் ஒரு மகன் அல்லவா?”
வந்தான் பிரமன் தேவர்களுடன் சேர்ந்து கொண்டு;
நொந்தான் ரத்தம் வழியும் இரு பறவைகளைக் கண்டு!
செய்வித்தான் சமாதானம் இரு முனிவர்களுக்கும்;
செய்வித்தான் சாப நிவர்த்தி இரு முனிவர்களுக்கும்.
நண்பர்களாக வாழச் சொன்னான் அந்த இருவரையும்;
பண்போடு பழகச் சொன்னான் அவர்கள் இருவரையும்.
பயன் தரா தானம், தவம், தீர்த்த யாத்திரைகள் முதலியன

நீங்கவில்லை முன் ஜன்மத்து விரோதம்;
நீங்கவில்லை முன் ஜன்மத்துக் குரோதம்.
தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர் கூரிய நகங்களால்;
தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர் வலிய அலகுகளால்.
சித்த சுத்தி ஏற்பட்டு இருந்தால் இவ்வாறு
யுத்தம் செய்வார்களா? நன்கு சிந்திப்பாய்.”
“எப்படி விமோசனம் அடைந்தனர் இருவரும்?
எப்போது விமோசனம் அடைந்தனர் இருவரும்?”
“வருந்தினான் மனம் பிரமன் இதைக் கண்டதும்;
வசிஷ்டர் பிரமதேவனின் ஒரு மகன் அல்லவா?”
வந்தான் பிரமன் தேவர்களுடன் சேர்ந்து கொண்டு;
நொந்தான் ரத்தம் வழியும் இரு பறவைகளைக் கண்டு!
செய்வித்தான் சமாதானம் இரு முனிவர்களுக்கும்;
செய்வித்தான் சாப நிவர்த்தி இரு முனிவர்களுக்கும்.
நண்பர்களாக வாழச் சொன்னான் அந்த இருவரையும்;
பண்போடு பழகச் சொன்னான் அவர்கள் இருவரையும்.
பயன் தரா தானம், தவம், தீர்த்த யாத்திரைகள் முதலியன

6#13d. The war between the two birds. (2)
“They birds did not forget the enmity of their previous birth. They did not forgo their anger for each other. They attacked each other fiercely with their claws and beaks, causing severe bleeding wounds.
If they had attained purity of mind by living in the holy Maanasarovar they would not have fought in this manner. ” Vyaasaa told King Janamejayan.
“How did they get liberated from the curse? When did they get liberated from the curse?” King Janamejayan fired these questions on sage Vyaasaa.
Sage Vyaasaa said,” Brahma became very sad to watch these fighting birds. Vasishtaa was one of the sons of Brahma. So he went to these two fighting birds along with the other Devaas.
Brahma advised them to forget their differences of opinion. He told them to forgive each other and live as gentlemen friends in the future.
As you can see, living in a holy place or visiting it or doing good karmaas like daanam and tapas will not produce purity of the mind.
To attain purity of the mind one must attain perfect control over his five senses. He must surrender to the lotus feet of Devi. She will make our hearts pure by giving us pure thoughts and thinking process.”

உரைத்தருள வேண்டுமெனக்கு” என வினவ,
எங்கும் நிறைந்து வியாபித்திருக்கும் தன்மை,
எந்த உருவம், குணம், தொழில் இன்மை,
உயிர்களின் பாசத்தை நீக்கும் எண்ணம்,
உற்பத்தி செய்யும் ஐவகை சக்திகள்;
முப்பத்தாறு தத்துவங்களைத் தோற்றுவித்து
எக்காலத்திலும் நிலைத்து நிற்கும் தன்மை;
அனைத்தையும் நன்கு விவரித்தான் ஐயன்;
ஆர்வத்துடன் கேட்டாள் அன்னை உமை.
“உருவமே இல்லாத தாங்கள் எப்படி
உருவங்கள் பலவற்றை எடுக்கின்றீர்கள்?”
“உருவம் இல்லை என்பது மெய்யே!
உருவம் எடுப்பது சக்தியின் காரியம்.”
“யான் தான் உம்முடைய திருவருளா?
என்னுடைய காரியமா உம் வடிவுகள்?”
“உன் புகழை நீயே வியந்து போற்றினாய்.
புன்மையான ஆணவமலம் மறைத்துள்ள
உயிர்களில் உள்நின்று செலுத்துவேன்.
உயிர் இப்போது உணர்வைப் பொருந்தாது !”
தன் இயக்கத்தை நிறுத்தி விட்டார் சிவன்.
தம் உணர்வு இழந்தன உயிர்த்தொகைகள்.

Siva explained to her his real nature that he is all pervading; he is devoid of any form, qualities and work; his aim is to remove the bondage of living creatures; he has five types power of creation; he has created the thirty six tatva and he remains as the nithyam and sathyam.
Devi asked him again,”If you are devoid of any form, how come you assume different forms?”
Lord replied, “Those forms and names are the work of shakti”
“Am I your power in doing all these things?’ Uma asked Siva.
Siva got upset and said, “You just praised yourself. I make everything happen by residing in all living things. Now I am going to stop all my actions.”
He stopped all his actions. The living things lost their consciousness and became insentient.

உதவி கோரி ஓடிவந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்;
மதி இழந்தவனிடம் என்ன பயன் பேசுவதால்?
அளித்தான் அவனுக்கு சங்கு சக்கரதத்ை.
களித்தான் தொண்டைமான் வென்றது போல.
செய்தி அறிந்ததும் பதறி ஓடி வந்தான் அங்கு
செய்வது அறியாத வசுதானன் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்.
“என்னைக் கொல்ல எண்ணும் சித்தப்பாவுக்கு
எந்தை போன்ற உங்கள் உதவி தேவையா?
பாசமே இல்லையா பத்மாவதி அக்கா! நான்
மோசம் போவதில் உனக்குச் சம்மதமா?”
தேற்றினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் மைத்துனனை,
“தோற்றுப் போவான்; கவலைப் படாதே!
ஆயுதங்கள் உள்ளன அவனிடம் ஆனால்
ஆதரித்துப் போரிடுவேன் உன் பக்கம் நான்.
சமரசம் பேசு முதலில். சண்டையைத் தவிர்!”
சமரசத்துக்கு ஒப்பவில்லை தொண்டைமான்!

Srinivaasan crowned Vasudaanan as the new king. Thondaimaan was appointed to assist the young king. Srinivaasan and Padmaavati returned to the aashram of sage Agasthya.
Thondaimaan opposed the rule of the young king. He wanted to become the new king. Vasudaanan said that after a king his son should become the ruler. There was discord between their views and it escalated very fast.
Thondaimaan wanted to get rid of Vasudaanan with the help of his loyal courtiers. He went to Srinivaasan and requested for his help. Srinivaasan knew that it would be futile to argue with a mad man and try to make him see good sense. So he lent his conch and sudharshan to Thondaimaan – who was elated with this gesture.
Vasudaanan became desperate and went to Srinivaasan. “Uncle wants to kill me and usurp the kingdom. You are helping him in his mission. I regard you as highly as my own father! My dear sister! Is it alright with you if I get cheated of my rightful kingdom?”
Srinivaasan consoled him . He said, “Thondaimaan has only my weapons but I will fight in your side. He can never win the war. But I prefer that we settle the matter without a war. So first try to make up with him peacefully! ”
Vasudaanan tried his best but Thondaimaan was adamant and wanted a war to settle the dispute.

சாபத்தால் வசிஷ்டர் இழந்தார் தம் தேஹத்தை.
பிறந்தார் மித்திர வருணனிடம் பிரமன் ஆணையால்;
பிறகு பெயர் பெற்றார் வசிஷ்டர் மித்திரா வருணி என.
“சபிக்க முடியுமா ஒரு மன்னனால் பிரும்ம ருஷியை?
சாபம் பலிக்குமா மன்னன் இட்டால் பிரும்ம ருஷியிடம்?”
” இக்ஷ்வாகு குலத்தின் மன்னன் நிமி – தந்தையார்
இக்ஷ்வாகு தந்தார் அனுமதி பெரிய யாகம் செய்ய.
விரும்பினான் மாபெரும் யாகம் ஒன்று புரிந்திட.
பொருட்களைச் சேகரித்தான் மாபெரும் யாகத்துக்கு.
வரவழைத்தான் மா முனிவர்களை யாகம்கண்டிட;
உரைத்தான் குலகுரு வசிஷ்டரிடம் யாகம் புரிந்திட.
“ஐயாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் தொடர்கின்ற யாகம் இது!
ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகள் தொடரும் யாகம் செய்யும்படி
வேண்டிக் கொண்டான் தேவேவேந்திரன் முன்பே;
தேவியின் அருளை நாடுகின்றான் தேவேந்திரன்.”
“அத்தனை பொருட்களையும் சேகரித்துவிட்டேன்;
அத்தனை முனிவர்களையும் வரவழைத்து விட்டேன்.
சாத்தியம் அல்ல ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகள் காத்திருப்பது;
பாத்தியதை உம்முடையது நீரே என் குலகுரு!” என,
புறக்கணித்தார் நிமியின் வேண்டுகோளை வசிஷ்டர்;
புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார் தேவேந்திரனின் யாகத்துக்கு.

6#14a. Sage Vasishta and King Nimi
King Janamejayan asked sage Vyaasaa,” sage Vasishtaa is also known as MitraavaruNi. How and why did he get that name?”
Vyaasaa said, ” King Nimi of Ikshvaaku race cursed his kulaguru Vasishtaa. As a result Vasishtaa lost his physical body and had to born again to Mitra Varunan as ordained by Brahma. Hence the name Mitraa VaruNi for Vasishtar.”
“Can a mere king curse a Brahma rushi successfully?'” King Janamejayan was amazed.
“King Iksvaaku gave permission to his son Nimi to perform a grand yagna to seek Devi’s blessings and grace. Nimi gathered all the things needed for the yagna. He sent out invitations to all the sages. He requested Vasishtaa to perform the grand yagna for five thousand years.
Vasishtaa had to refuse since he aad already accepted Indra’s request to perform a yagna for five hundred years to seek Devi’s blessings and grace.
King Nimi said, “We can’t wait for five hundred more years. You are our kulaguru. So it is your responsibly to perform the yagna!” But Vasishtaa honored his commitment and went off to perform Indra’s yagna.

“அசையும், அசையாப் பொருட்களில்
இசைந்து நிற்பது நீரே என அறிந்தேன்.
உயிர்களில் உறைந்து அவற்றின் அறிவை
இயக்குவது ஒழித்து நின்றீர் ஒருகணம்.
இமைப் பொழுதாகிலும் அதுவே உலகில்
யுகப் பொழுதாக நீள்வதும் மெய்யே!
உயிர்கள் தெளிவு பெற்று எழுந்து தம்
தொழில்கள் செய்திட அருள் புரிவீர்.”
இறைவன் அருள் புரிந்தார் மீண்டும்.
இயங்கின உயிர்த் தொகைகள் முன்போல்.
தேவர்கள் வந்து குழுமினர் கயிலையில்.
“தீவினையில் மூழ்கினோம் உணர்விழந்து!
கழுவாய் கூறியருள வேண்டும் எமக்கு!”
தொழுதுவேண்டிக் கொண்டது தேவர் குழாம்.

மறை வழி நில்லாது தீவினைப் பட்டதும்
உமையைச் சென்று சேரும் அஞ்சற்க!
முன் போல் உம் தொழில்களைப் புரிக!”
“உயிர்களைப் பற்றிய தீவினைகள் எல்லாம்
கயிலை நாதனே என்னைப் பற்றுவது ஏன்?”
“உன்னை நீயே வியந்து போற்றினாய்.
உன்னால் உயிர்கள் செயலிழந்தன.
தீவினைகள் உன்னைச் சேருவது முறையே!
நீயும் இதைச் சுமக்க வல்லவளே!”

சிவன் செயல் இன்றி இருந்தமையால்
சீவன்கள் உறைந்துவிட்டன செயல் இன்றி!
அஞ்சி நடுங்கினாள் உமை அன்னை.
கெஞ்சி வேண்டினாள் பின் வருமாறு!
“அசையும், அசையாப் பொருட்களில்
இசைந்து நிற்பது நீரே என அறிந்தேன்.
உயிர்களில் உறைந்து அவற்றின் அறிவை
இயக்குவது ஒழித்து நின்றீர் ஒருகணம்.
இமைப் பொழுதாகிலும் அதுவே உலகில்
யுகப் பொழுதாக நீள்வதும் மெய்யே!
உயிர்கள் தெளிவு பெற்று எழுந்து தம்
தொழில்கள் செய்திட அருள் புரிவீர்.”
இறைவன் அருள் புரிந்தார் மீண்டும்.
இயங்கின உயிர்த் தொகைகள் முன்போல்.
தேவர்கள் வந்து குழுமினர் கயிலையில்.
“தீவினையில் மூழ்கினோம் உணர்விழந்து!
கழுவாய் கூறியருள வேண்டும் எமக்கு!”
தொழுதுவேண்டிக் கொண்டது தேவர் குழாம்.

When Siva stopped his actions, all the living things came to to a grinding halt. Uma shuddered and prayed to Siva.
“I understand that it is you who resides in every living thing and make it perform its allotted tasks. You stopped you actions for a moment. But in the world is extends like a yuga. Kindly make everything come back to its senses and perform its appointed tasks.” Siva obliged her request.
All the Devas gathered in Kailash. They prayed to Siva,”We lost out consciousness. Please tell us how to do praayaschiththam for that”
Siva said, “The evil effect of that will be transferred to Uma. You may return to your appointed duties without fear”
Uma was startled and asked,”Oh lord why should all the bad effects be transferred to me? What have I done to earn this?”
“You praised yourself. It is because of you that all the living creatures lost their consciousness. So the ill effects will be yours. You are quite capable of bearing that load!” Siva replied to Uma calmly.

Only Sreenivaasan wished for peace but both Thondaimaan and Vasudaanan got ready for a battle. Thondaimaan imagined that he had conquered the battle with the help of the conch and the sudarshan given to him by Sreenivaasan.
Vasudaanan sent a message to Sreenivaasan to keep his promise and lead his army in the battle. Sreenivaasan left for the battle field. Padmaavati asked him,”Do you want the blood shed between an uncle and his nephew?”
Sreenivaasan replied to her, “I am going there to stop the blood shed by any means – fair or foul”
The battle started. Srinivaasan wanted to stop it and decided to play a trick. He went in his chariot in front of Thondaimaan and fainted on the chariot when struck by an arrow shot by his enemy.
Thondaimaan got confused and stopped the war immediately. The news that Sreenivaasan had fainted on his chariot reached the ashram of Sage Agasthya.
Padmaavati got wild on hearing the news and rushed to the battle field to stop the war at any cost.

நடை பெற்றது யாகம் நல்ல முறையில் – வேதியர்
கிடைத்த அரிய பரிசுகளால் மனம் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.
வந்தார் வசிஷ்டர் ஐநூறு ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து;
வந்த சமயம் ஆழ்ந்த உறக்கத்தில் மன்னன் நிமி.
எழுப்பினர் சேவகர் மன்னன் நிமியை – ஆனால்
எழவில்லை மன்னன் நிமி அதன் பிறகும் கூட.
கோபம் வந்து விட்டது வசிஷ்ட முனிவருக்கு – கொடிய
சாபம் தந்து விட்டார் இக்ஷ்வாகு குல மன்னன் நிமிக்கு!
“யாகம் செய்து என்னை அவமதித்துவிட்டாய் – உன்
தேஹம் மறைந்து போகக் கடவது!” எனச் சபித்தார்
காவலர் சென்று தெரிவித்தனர் சாபத்தை;
கோவலன் நிமி ஓடி வந்து வணங்கினான்!
“நடத்தச் சொன்னேன் உம்மிடம் யாகத்தை;
தடுத்துப் பார்த்தேன் இந்திரனிடம் செல்வதை.
சென்றீர் இந்திரனின் யாகத்துக்கு நீரே விரும்பி;
புகன்றீர் சாபம் தவறு செய்யாத எந்தன் மேல்.
உடல் அற்று நான் திரிய வேண்டும் எனில்
உடல் அற்றுத் திரிய வேண்டும் நீரும் கூட”
சாபத்துக்கு எதிர்ச் சாபம் தந்தான் மன்னன் நிமி;
சாபங்கள் பலித்தன; உடல்கள் மறைந்து போயின!
உடல் இன்றி உலகின் உயிர் வாழ்வது எங்கனம்?
