KANDAPURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 # 43B. JAYANTHAN AND THE DEVAS.

Jayanthan got very upset on hearing the news.

“I do not know where my parents are now! Our kulaguru is not around to guide us. Bhaanukoban wants to destroy us. We have no asylum. We are not seeking any asylum.

I am not going to worry about the outcome of the war. I will not run away from it. I am not going to surrender.

Either victory or the swarga of the valorous warriors will be mine. Anyone who is afraid to fight the auras can safely leave now.”

“We will rather fight those asuras than serve them doing menial jobs! Let us go to the war front right now.”

Jayanthan thought of the Airaavataa and it stood in front of him. Each deva got into his vimanam and they all went to the war front ready to fight the asura army.

 8c. வரம் தருவேன்!

சிந்துவின் கோபத்தின்முன் சிதறி ஓடினர்,
இந்தினும் அவன் தேவர்கள் சமூஹமும்.

விரட்டினான் தேவர்களை தண்டத்தால்;
வீழ்த்தினான் கருடனின் ஒரு சிறகினை!

‘வெல்வது அரிது வரங்கள் பெற்றவனை,
வெல்ல வேண்டும் தந்திரமாக’ என்று

“வீரம் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தோம் யாம் – நீ
கோரும் வரம் தருவோம் யாம்!” என

விஷ்ணுவின் கருத்தை அறிந்தான் சிந்து;
விஷ்ணுவைச் சிக்க வைத்தான் வலையில்.

“தேவர்களுடன் வரவேண்டும் என் நகரம்,
தேவைப்படும் பணிகள் செய்ய வேண்டும்!”

சிக்கிக் கொண்டனர் வசமாக தேவர்கள்.
சிறை செய்தான் தேவரைச் சிந்து ராஜன்

“துன்பம் தொடருகிறதே குருதேவா – நாம்
இன்பம் காண்போமா வாழ்வில் மீண்டும்?”

குலகுருவை அணுகினர் தேவர்கள்
குலகுரு கூறினார் செய்யவேண்டியதை

“சிவன் அளித்த வரங்கள் சிறந்தவை!
சிவனால் அழிய மாட்டான் சிந்துராஜன்

ஆதிகாரணனாகிய ஐங்கர மூர்த்தியே
அழித்திட வல்லவர் சிந்து ராஜனை.

வினாயகரை தியானிப்போம் ஒன்றாக!”
வினயத்துடன் நடந்தது மானசீக பூஜை

சதுர்த்தி விரதம் வந்தது - சிறையில்
எதுவுமே இன்றி மனதில் செய்தனர்.

பத்துக் கரங்களோடு காட்சி தந்தார்
சித்தி புத்திதேவியரோடு விநாயகர்.

“சிந்து ராஜனை அழிப்பேன் விரைவில்,
நொந்து போகவேண்டாம் சிறையில்”

 #38b. The Boon!

The Deva dispersed in front of the angry Sindu Raajan. The Deva were driven away with the dandam by Sindhu. He chopped off one of the wings of garudan, on which Vishnu was seated.

Vishnu thought to himself, ‘Sindhu has several boons given by Siva. It is difficult to defeat him. I will resort to a cunning scheme.’ He told Sindhu, “I am very impressed by your valor. I want to give you a boon. What do you want?”

Sindhu could read the thoughts of Vishnu clearly. He decided to trap Vishnu with his own words. He told Vishnu, “I want all the Deva to come to my city and do the menial chores I want to get done”

Now they were caught in the net, with no hope of escaping! After reaching his city he promptly arrested all the Deva. The Deva were unhappy imprisoned by Sindhu.

They approached their kulaguru Bruhaspati and asked him, “Is there any hope of getting out from here? Will we ever return to our swarggam?”

The guru consoled them and said, “The boons given by Siva have made Sindhu very powerful. Siva will not destroy Sindhu. Brhama and Vishnu can not defeat him. The only god who can destroy Sindhu is Vinayaka. Let us all pray to him.”

The Deva all prayed to Vinayaka and did maanaseeka puja since they did not have anything needed for a real pooja.
Meanwhile it was chathurti vratham day.

Deva preformed the maanaseeka pooja as usual. Vinayaka appeared to them with his ten arms and in the company of Siddhi Devi and Buddhi Devi.

He told the Deva, ” Do not worry! I will put an end to Sindhu soon and you will all be released form this prison.”

5#2d. அபயம்

அஞ்சிய பெண் எருமை திரும்பியது வனம்;
தஞ்சம் புகுந்தது அங்கிருந்த யக்ஷர்களிடம்.

அளித்தனர் அபயம் அந்தப் பெண் எருமைக்கு;
அழித்தனர் அக் கிடாவை பாணங்களை எய்து.

அழுதது எருமை ரம்பனை எண்ணி எண்ணி;
அழும் எருமையுடன் சென்றனர் யக்ஷர்கள்.

சிதை மூட்டி எரித்தனர் ரம்பனின் உடலை
சிதையில் பிரவேசித்தது பெண் எருமையும்.

தடுக்க முயன்றனர் யக்ஷர் உடன்கட்டையை;
தடுக்க முடியவில்லை அதன் தீவிரத்தால்.

நடுங்கினர் யக்ஷர் கருவை எண்ணி – தீயின்
நடுவிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டான் மஹிஷன்.

ரக்த பீஜன் ஆவான் மஹிஷன் – ஒருதுளி
ரத்தத்தில் தோன்றுவான் இன்னொருவன்!

சேர்த்தான் அசூரவீரர்களை ஒன்று திரட்டி;
சோர்வின்றி வென்றான் மூவுலகங்களை!

முடி சூட்டிக் கொண்டான் அசுர வேந்தனாக
முடியவில்லை எவராலும் அவனை வெல்ல.

 5#2d. Abhayam

The frightened female buffalo ran bak to the garden and surrendered to the Yakshas. They protected her and killed the male buffalo in heat chasing her with arrows.

The female buffalo wept bitterly thinking of Ramban and led the Yakshas to where he lay dead. They cremated Ramban’s body. The female buffalo also jumped in to the fire as if performing Sati.

The Yakshas worried about the calf in its womb. Lo and behold! The buffalo calf emerged from the funeral pyre unharmed.

He was named as Mahishan. He was a rakta beejan. Every drop of his blood could create an asuran well matched with him in valor and might.

 Mahishan gathered all the asuraas who were still alive. He conquered all the three worlds and became the king. No body was able to defeat him.

43c. தேவ அசுர யுத்தம்.

போருக்கு வந்து நின்ற தேவர்களை
நேருக்கு நேர் கண்டு வியந்தனர்.

“ஏவல்கள் செய்து பிழைத்தவர்கள்
எதிரே நிற்கின்றார்கள் போருக்கு!”

கடும் போர் தொடங்கியது அங்கு,
கொடும் அவுணர் தேவர்களிடையே.

விடுத்தனர் வலிய படைக்கலன்களை
அடுத்து அடுத்து இருபடையினரும்.

தேவர்கள் திரல் அழிந்து போயினர்;
தேவர்களைப் பிடித்துக்கட்டினர் அசுரர்.

நாண் ஒலி எழுப்பினான் ஜயந்தன்;
கணை மழை பொழிந்தான் ஜயந்தன்.

நூறு வெள்ளம் அவுணர்கள் அழிந்து
ஆறாகப் பெருகியது அவர்கள் குருதி.

நீலகேசன் எதிர்த்தான் ஜயந்தனை.
நீலகேசியின் கவசம் அறுபட்டது.

ஜயந்தனின் வில் நாண் அறுபடவே
மாயப் போர் புரியலானான் அவன்.

மாயை நீக்க இயலாத அவுணர்கள்
பேயைக் கண்டது போல் ஓடினர்.

படைத் தலைவர் ஒன்றாக முயன்றும்
உடைக்க முடியவில்லை மாயையை.

2 # 43 C. THE DEVA ASURA YUDDHAM.

The asuras were surprised to see the devas in the war front.
“They were saving their skins doing menial jobs for us. Today they have dared to come to the war front!”

A fierce battle started between the asuras and the devas.
But the devas were much weaker than their enemies.

Soon all the devas were bound and Jayanthan was the only one left to fight the asuras.

He started showering arrows from his bow. One hundred veLLam of the asura army was vanquished by him and their blood started flowing like a river.

Neealkesan dared to fight Jayanthan, but his armor was damaged. Jayanthan’s bow string got cut and he resorted to a war using maya techniques.

The asura could not come out of the his maya and started running away madly. All the generals of the asura army tried together to destroy the maya created by Jayanthan but failed miserably.

8d. திரிசந்தி க்ஷேத்ரம்

உருவத்தை யோகத்தால் மறைத்து,
உமாபதியை தியானித்தனர் முனிவர்கள்.

அன்னையும், அண்ணலும் அங்கே
அன்புடன் கட்சி தந்தனர் ஒன்றாக.

“சிந்துராஜனின் கொடுமைகள் கூடுகின்றன
சிறைப்படுத்தி வாட்டுகிறான் தேவர்களை!

தொல்லை தருகிறான் முனிவர்களுக்கு;
தலைக்கு ஏறிவிட்டது மமதை அவனுக்கு.

தாங்கள் தங்கிவிட வேண்டும் இங்கேயே;
நாங்கள் தங்குவதற்கு அது ஒன்றே வழி!

இணங்கினான் மஹேசன் தங்கிவிட – சிவ
கணங்கள் நிர்மாணித்தனர் ஓர் ஆலயம்.

இணையாகும் கயிலையங்கிரிக்கு அது!
வணங்கப்படும் ஈசன் யோகநிஷ்டையில்.

தேவிக்கு உதித்தது ஓர் ஐயம் இதனால்,
“தேவாதி தேவா! நீர் தியானிப்பது எவரை ?”

“பரம் பொருள் என்று ஒருவன் உள்ளான்;
பிறர் அனைவரையும் தோற்றுவிப்பவன்;

மும்மூர்த்திகளையும் படைத்தவன்;
மூவுலகினரையும் வாழ வைப்பவன்;

சிந்து ராஜனை அழிக்க அவதரிப்பான்;
அந்த பாக்கியம் கிடைக்கும் உனக்கே!

பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் தியானிப்பாய்
பரம்பொருளின் ஏகாக்ஷரத்தை விடாது!”

அன்னை விரும்பினாள் அறிய பேற்றினை;
சொன்னபடி தியானித்தாள் ஈராறு ஆண்டு!

#38d. Thrisandhi kshetram

The sages made themselves invisible by their power of yoga and prayed to Lord Siva. Uma and Siva appeared to them.

“Sindhu Raajan is becoming more and more arrogant. He had imprisoned all the Deva. He troubles us rushis also. He has become headstrong. You must stay here lord so that we too can live here peacefully.”

Siva agreed to stay in Thrisandhi kshetram. Sivaganas built him a temple as magnificent as Kailash itself. Siva sat in yoga. Uma wondered and asked him,” You are the lord or all the other Gods. Whom do you meditate upon?”

Siva replied to Uma, “There is one absolute power who creates every other thing. He has created the trimoorthis. He creates the three worlds. He will be born on earth to destroy Sindhu Raaajan . You may become his mother if you pray to him chanting the ekaaksharam for twelve years.”

Devi wanted to become the mother of the all powerful God and meditated upon him for twelve long years.

5#3a. தூதுவன்

சேனாதிபதிகள் இருந்தனர் வலிய அசுரர்களாக;
ஏகாதிபத்திய வெறியுடன் அரசாண்டு வந்தான்.

கப்பம் கட்டினர் பிற நாட்டு மன்னர்கள் – மஹிஷன்
ஏப்பம் விட நினைத்தான் இந்திர லோகத்தையும்!

அனுப்பினான் ஒரு தூதுவனை இந்திரனிடம்;
அனுப்பினான் தன்னுடைய செய்தியைக் கூறி.

“சென்று விடு விண்ணுலகு விடுத்து உடனேயே!
வென்று விடுவான் உன்னை மஹிஷன் போரில்!

வென்றுள்ளோம் பல முறைகள் தேவர்களை;
வென்றுவிடுவோம் இனி வரும் போர்களிலும்!

அனைவரும் அறிவோம் உந்தன் ஆண்மையை!
பூனையாக மாறினாய் அகலிகையுடன் உறவாட.”

சென்றான் தூதுவன் இச்செய்தியுடன் சுவர்க்கம்;
செப்பினான் மஹிஷனின் தூது வார்த்தைகளை.

இந்திர சபை அதிர்ந்தது இந்தச் செய்தி கேட்டு!
நொந்தனர் மனம் அகம்பாவ மொழிகள் கேட்டு!

“செல் உன்னை அனுப்பிய மஹிஷனிடம் மீண்டு!
சொல் நான் கூறும் மறுமொழிகளையும் அங்கு!

எருமைக்குப் பிறந்தவன் ஏவியுள்ளான் உன்னை;
எருமைக்கு மதம் பிடித்தால் வரட்டும் போருக்கு.

பூனையானாலும் தேவாமிர்தம் உண்டவன் நான்;
புல்லை உண்பவன் உன் எருமைக் கடா மன்னன்.

வஜ்ரம் போன்ற கொம்பு இருக்கலாம் அவனிடம்!
வஜ்ஜிராயுதமே உள்ளது என்னிடம் என்று சொல்!

ஆயிரம் இருந்தாலும் நான் அமரேந்திரன்!
போய்ச் சொல்லு நான் கூறியதை அங்கு!”

 5#3a. The messenger

Mahishan’s army chiefs were valorous asuraas. Mahishan ruled with a desire to expand his kingdom. All the defeated kings paid him heavy taxes. Mahishan wanted to annex Indralokam also. He sent a messenger to Indra with this message.

“Go away from the swarggam now! Mahishan. will drive you away otherwise. We have defeated you in several wars. We will defeat you in the future wars also. We know about your bravery and courage. You transformed into a cat in order to ravish Ahalya Devi.”

The messenger went to swarggam and delivered this message in the durbar of Indra. Everyone present there was shaken to the core by this arrogant message. Indra was beside himself with anger at this insult. He replied to the messenger,

“Go back to where you have come from and tell your king my message. The son of a buffalo has sent you on this mission. If the buffalo is eager for a war let him come here with his army.

I might have assumed the form of a cat, but yet I have drunk the nectar. All your king eats is grass and hay. He may have horns as strong as Vajram but I have the Vajraayudam itself. I am still the king of heaven and the Devas. Go tell all these to your king without fail!”

43d. பானுகோபன் போர்.

ஜயந்தனின் வெற்றியைக் கண்டதும்
மாயப்போர் புரிவதை உணர்ந்தான்.

ஞான மந்திரத்தை நினைத்தபடியே
பானுகோபன் அவன் எதிரில் நின்றான்.

உடைபட்ட மாயைகள் விலகிவிட்டன.
படையின்றி ஜயந்தன் மட்டும் யானை மேல்!

விற்போர் மூண்டது இருவர் இடையே.
வில் முறிந்தது பானுகோபன் கையில்.

தேரும், பரிகளும் அழிந்து படவே;
வேறு தேரில் ஏறினான் பானுகோபன்

நூறு ஆயிரம் பாணங்கள் பறந்தன!
தாறுமாறாகத் தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர்!

குருதி பொங்க விழுந்தான் ஜயந்தன்;
பருகிய அமுதத்தால் உயிர் பிழைத்தான்.

வெள்ளை யானைக்குச் சீற்றம் பொங்கிக்
கொள்ளைக் கோபத்துடன் போரிட்டது.

தேரின் மீது பாய்ந்து அழித்துவிட்டது
தேரோட்டியை, குதிரைகளை எல்லாம்.

நிலத்தில் குதித்த அசுரன் மார்பில்
நான்கு தந்தங்களால் முட்டியது.

தந்தங்கள் முறிந்தன சடச் சடவென!
தந்த அறையில் தளர்ந்து விழுந்தது.

2 # 43 d. War with Bhaanukoban.

Bhaanukoban understood that Jayanthan was resorting to maya. He concentrated on the Gnaana manthram taught to him and stood in front of Jayanthan.

The maya vanished and he saw Jayanthan all alone on the white elephant. They fought with bows and arrows.

Bhaanukoban’s bow broke. His chariot and horses also got destroyed. He climbed on to another chariot.

He shot a hundred thousand arrows at Jayanthan. He fell faint bleeding heavily. He remained alive since he had tasted the divine nectar.

Airavat got very angry and charged at Bhaanukoban. It broke his chariot and killed the horses. The aura was forced to jump on the ground. It attacked his chest with its four tusks.

But the tusks broke making a loud noise. Airaavat fell faint when the asura slapped it hard.

 8e. கணேசர்

மயூரேச விநாயகர் ஆலயத்தில் உமை
தியானித்தாள் ஏகாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை.

பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் உருண்டோடின;
பரம்பொருள் காட்சி தந்தார் அன்னைக்கு.

மும்மூர்த்திகளின் முகங்களுடன், கரங்கள்
மூவிரண்டுடன், ரிஷப வாஹனத்தில் ஏறி!

“சிறையில் வாடும் இந்திராதி தேவர்களை
சிறை விடுவித்துச் சுவர்க்கம் சேர்க்கவும்;

சிந்து ராஜனை சம்ஹாரம் செய்திடவும்
வந்து தோன்றுவேன் கணேச குமாரனாக”

விநாயக சதுர்த்தி பூஜையில் தோன்றினார்
விஸ்வரூப விநாயகர் ஜோதி வடிவமாக!

கோடிசூர்யப் பிரகாசத்தைக் காண இயலாது
மூடிக் கொண்டு விட்டாள் கண்களை தேவி.

‘திருமகனாகிக் குழந்தையாகித் தாங்கள்
வரவேண்டும் தரிசனம் தர வேண்டும்”என

விடுத்தார் ஜோதிமயமான விஸ்வரூபத்தை;
எடுத்தார் அழகிய பாலகனின் வடிவத்தை!

மூன்று கண்களும், மூவிரண்டு கரங்களும்,
முத்துமாலை குலுங்கும் மார்பையும் கண்டு;

வாரி எடுத்து அணைத்தாள் உமை மார்போடு!
ஊறி வந்த பாலை ஊட்டினாள் தாயன்போடு!

வலது கண்ணும், வலது தோளும் துடித்து
வளர்த்தன மகிழ்ச்சியை தேவர்களுக்கு!

இடது கண்ணும், இடது தோளும் துடித்து
இடர் விளைவித்தன சிந்து ராஜனுக்கு!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#38e. Ganesha

Uma devi sat in the temple of Mayooresa Vinayaka and chanted ekaaksharam for twelve long years.

Vinayaka appeared to Devi with the three faces of the trimoortis and six arms on the Nandhi vaahanam.

“I will be born on earth as Ganesha to destroy Sindhu Raajan and free the suffering Deva from his prison ”

During the Vinayaka Chathurti pooja, God appeared as Viswaroopa Vinaayaka in the form of a brilliant light. He was more brilliant than ten million Suns put together.

Devi closed her eyes – unable to bear the brilliance. She prayed to him, “Please come to me as a small child”

Vinayaka took the form of a small child. He had three lovely eyes and six arms. He wore pearl strings on his chest. Uma embraced this lovely child and gave him her milk.

The Deva felt happy since their right eyes and right shoulders twitched as a good omen. Sindhu Raajan felt upset since his left eye and left shoulder twitched as a bad omen.

5#3b. மஹிஷனின் சினம் (1)

“அழிவற்றவன் நான், அமரர்களின் அரசன்;
அழிவுள்ளவன் அவன், அசுரகளின் அரசன்.

அளிக்கும் கற்பகத் தரு உடையவன் நான்;
அழிக்கும் அகம்பாவம் உடையவன் அவன்!

தேவியின் பாதுகாப்பைப் பெற்றவன் நான்;
தேவியால் அழிக்கப்படக் கூடியவன் அவன்!

தூதர்களைக் கொல்வது பாவம் – அதனால்
தூதன் உன்னை உயிரோடு விடுகின்றேன்!”

விரைந்தோடினான் தூதுவன் மஹிஷனிடம்,
உரைத்தான் இந்திரன் உரைத்த மொழிகளை.

சீறி எழுந்தான் சினத்துடன் மஹிஷாசுரன்;
சிறுநீர் கழித்தான் தன் வாலை மேலே தூக்கி.

“இந்திரன் தயாராம் நம்மோடு போர் புரிய.
இந்திரன் அறியான் என் பெருமைகளை.

நான் அறிவேன் அவன் சிறுமைகளை!
நயவஞ்சகன், பேடித்தனம் கொண்டவன்;

அபகரிப்பான் பிறர் மனைவியை – மேலும்
அரைகுறை ஆக்குவான் பிறர் தவத்தை.

தேவ கன்னியர் அவன் காமப் படையினர்
தேவைப் படும்போது சேவை செய்வர்.

கேவலம் இந்திரன் செய்யும் தொழிலுக்குத்
தேவையில்லை அமரர்கோன் என்ற பட்டம்!”

5#3b. Mahishan’s wrath (1)

Indra told Mahishan’s messenger, “I am the king of the Deva who live for ever and your Mahishan is the king of Asura who can be killed. I am indestructible. Mahishan can be destroyed.

I have the Karpaga vruksham which can grant me anything I desire. Mahishan has only arrogance which will cause his downfall. I have the protection of Devi.

He will be destroyed by Devi. It is improper to kill a messenger. So I spare you with life. Go back to Mahishan and give my message to him”

The messenger went back to Mahishan and told Indra’s message. Mahishan became very angry. He lifted his tail and passed urine then and there. He spoke in a mocking tone,

” It seems Indra is ready to fight with me. He does not know my greatness but I know very well him meanness. He is a cunning and treacherous fellow. He covets the wives of the other people.

He disturbs the penance of other people. The apsaras are the deluding damsels he employs to destroy anyone. The title King of Heaven does not suit the kind of actions he performs!”

43e. அவுணர் அட்டகாசம்.

தனித்து விழுந்துகிடந்த ஜயந்தனையும்,
தளர்ந்த விழுந்து கிடந்த யானையையும்

கண்ட அவுணர்கள் பொங்கி ஆரவாரித்து,
கண்டபடி ஜயந்தனை வருத்தலாயினர்.

“முன்னமே தளர்ந்து போய் உள்ளான்;
இன்னமும் வதைக்காதீர்கள் அவனை!

தேடித் திரிந்து அஞ்சி ஒளிந்துள்ள பிற
தேவர்களையும் சிறைப் பிடியுங்கள்!”

அனைவரையும் பிடித்துக் கட்டினர்;
அனைத்தையும் எரித்து அழித்தனர்.

பொன் போலவே ஒளிர்ந்து எரிந்து
பொன்னுலகம் சேதமாகி விட்டது!

முன்னே சிறைக் கைதிகளை அனுப்பிப்
பின்னே நகர் திரும்பினான் பானுகோபன்.

“விண்ணவர்கள் இதோ நம்கைதிகள்!
விண்ணுலகம் எரிந்து சாம்பலானது!”

சூரபத்மனை வணங்கிக் கூறினான்;
சூரபத்மன் அழைத்தான் காவலரை.

“ஈவு இரக்கம் இன்றிச் சேதியுங்கள்

கை வலிக்க வெட்டினாலும் வளர்ந்தன
கை, கால்கள் மற்றும் தாள், தோள்கள்.

கொல்லவும் இயலவில்லை - வெட்டித்
தள்ளவும் இயலவில்லை அவர்களை!

“விலங்குகள் பூட்டியபின் சிறையில்
விலங்குகள் போலப் பூட்டுங்கள்!”

சிறைப்பட்ட தேவர்கள் வருந்தினர்;
அடைபட்ட தம் நிலையை நொந்தனர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
# 43 e. The atrocities of the asura.

The asuras shouted with delight when they saw Jayanthan unconscious and the elephant overcome. The started harassing Jayanthan.

Bhaanukoban told them, “Already he is very weak. Do not torture him. Now get hold of all the other devas who have gone into hiding!”

Everyone was rounded up and tied with ropes. The whole swarga was burned to ashes. The prisoners proceeded first and Bhaanukoban followed later. He told Soorapadman,

“I have destroyed the swarga. Here are the Devas who are now our prisoners.”

Soorapadman ordered his soldiers to chop off the body parts of the Devas. But the parts regenerated and grew back as soon as they were cut off. The Devas had tasted their share of nectar!

“Oh! We can neither kill them nor disfigure them! Lock them up in the prison, after chaining them, so that they cannot escape!”

All the Devas were locked up. They were steeped in self pity.
