6#13q. சலந்தரன் அழிவு

திருவிளையாடலை விழைந்தார் பெருமான்.
ஒருகுடை, கமண்டலம் ஏந்தினார் கைகளில்.

நடை தளர்ந்தார், தடியை ஊன்றினார்;
நரை திரை மலிந்த கிழவராக ஆனார்.

பார்ப்பனக் கோலம் தரித்து வந்தார்;
பார்வையில் படாது வந்தனர் தேவர்.

“யார் நீ? எங்கு வசிப்பவன் எனக் கூறு!
யாரைத் தேடித் படையுடன் நடந்தாய்?”

“நிலவுலகில் வசிக்கும் அவுணன் நான்.
கடலரசனின் வளர்ப்பு மகன் சலந்தரன்.

வந்துள்ளேன் போரில் வெல்வதற்கு
அந்தச் சிவனையும் தேவர்களையும்!”

நகைத்தார் கிழவர், உரைத்தார் மேலும்.
“பகைத்தால் சிவனை இறப்பது உறுதி!

பிழைக்க விரும்பினால் திரும்பிச் செல்!
அனைத்தும் அறிவேன் சிவனைப் பற்றி!”

மாறுவேடக் கிழவர் யார் என்றறியாமல்
வேறுபட்டு நின்று, சீறிச் சினந்தான்.

“சிறியவனாக எண்ணிவிட்டீர் என்னை!
சிறிது நேரம் நின்று பாரும் ஆற்றலை!”

“ஆற்றலைக் காணவே வந்துள்ளேன்”
கீற்றினர் திருவடியால் சிவபெருமான்

நிலத்தில் உருளை வடிவம் ஒன்றினை.
“தலையில் தாங்க வல்லாயோ இதை?”

“உருளையைத் தலையில் தாங்குவது
ஊதிப் புகையைத் தள்ளுவதற்கு ஒப்பு!”

உருளைப் படையை எடுத்தான் மேலே;
உருளை இருந்தது மிகவும் பாரமாக.

முயன்று உயர்த்தி மார்பில், தோளில்,
தயங்கித் தலையில் சுமந்தான் அதை.

உருளை உடலை இரு கூறாக்கியது!
குருதி பெருகி எங்கும் பரவியது!

உடன் வந்த படையைத் திருக்கண் தீ
சுடலைச் சாம்பலாக மாற்றி விட்டது!

மெய்வடிவுடன் நின்று அருள் செய்த
ஐயனை வணங்கித் துன்பம் தீர்ந்தனர்.

6#13q. Jalandran is destroyed.

Siva wanted to play a prank. He took the form of a very old brahmin. He carried an umbrella, a kamandalam, and a stick to support his faltering steps. The Devas followed him invisibly.

The old brahmin asked Jalandran.”Who are you? Where do you live? why have you come with an army?”
Jalandran replied,”I am the adopted son of Varuna. I live on earth. My name is Jalandran. I have come to conquer Siva and the Devas”

The old man laughed loudly and said,”If you fight with Siva you will surely get destroyed. Go back and live longer. I know all about Siva!”

Jalandran did not know it was Siva himself advising him to go back. He became very angry at being ridiculed by an old brahmin. ‘You think I am an ordinary person. Just hang around to see my valor”

The old man replied. “I have come here only to see your valor!
He drew a discus on the ground with his toe.”Can you carry this discus on your head?”
“Carrying this discus is as easy as blowing away the smoke!” Jalandran replied.

He picked up the discus. It was very heavy. Slowly he raised it to his chest, his shoulder and finally on to his head. The discus tore his body into two pieces. Blood flooded the place.

The army accompanying Jalandran was turned into ash by the fire emerging from Siva’s third eye. Devas paid obeisance to Siva who stood in his original form and glory.

6#13r. விருந்தை

விருந்தையை, சலந்தரன் மனைவியை
விரும்பினார் திருமால் தன் உளமாற.

தவ முனிவரின் கோலம் தரித்தார்,
தவறான எண்ணத்துடன் தங்கினார்;

சலந்தரனின் மாளிகையை அடுத்த
மலர்கள் நிறைந்த பூம் பொழிலில்.

கணவன் திரும்பாததால் விருந்தை
கவலையுடன் பூம்பொழில் சென்றாள்.

திருமால் காவலர் அரிமா உருவில்
விருந்தையை வெருட்டினர் அங்கே.

தவக் கோல முனிவரிடம் சென்று
கவலை நீங்கினாள் பேதை விருந்தை.

“சிவனை எதிர்த்துப் போரிடச் சென்ற
அவர் கதி என்ன ஆயிற்று?” என வினவ

மாலின் காவலர் குரங்கு வடிவத்தில்
சலந்தரனின் உடலைக் கொணர்ந்தனர்.

மூர்ச்சித்து விழுந்த விருந்தையைத்
தேற்றி எழுப்பினார் தவக்கோல மால்.

“கணவரைப் பிழைக்கச் செய்யும்” என்று
கதறி அழுதாள் விருந்தை முனிவரிடம்

பிளந்த உடலை ஒன்றாகப் பொருத்திக்
கணத்தில் புகுந்தார் மால் அவ்வுடலில்.

6#13r. Brinda and Vishnu.

Vishnu desired Brinda-the wife of Jalandran. He assumed the form of a tapasvi and went to the garden adjacent to the palace of Jalandran.

Brinda got worried by her husband’s absence. She went to the garden. The dwaara paalakaas of Vishnu frightened her assuming the form of two lions. She ran to Vishnu disguised as a tapasvi and was saved by him. She wanted to know the fate of her husband who had gone to fight Siva.

The dwaara paalakaas now assumed the form of two monkeys and brought the two halves of the dead body of Jalandran. Brinda swooned right away at the horrible sight. The Tapasvi brought her around. She begged him to resurrect her husband by the power of his penance.

The tapasvi put the torn halves of the body together and entered into it in a moment.

6#13s. துளவச் செடி

சலந்தரனின் உடலில் எழுந்தார் மால்,
சலந்தரன் உயிர் பிழைத்ததைப் போல்.

கணவனைத் தழுவி மகிழ்ந்தாள் அவள்;
கணவனுடன் நுகர்ந்தாள் இல்லற இன்பம்.

மாயத்தால் சலந்தரன் போன்றே மாறி
நேயத்துடன் இல்லறம் நடத்தினார் மால்.

மாயத்தை மறந்துவிட்டார் மால் ஒருநாள்.
“நேயம் நான் கொண்டது திருமால் மீதா?”

கற்பைக் கெடுத்துச் சூறையாடியவன் மீது
கற்புக்கரசி வீசினாள் பல சாபங்களை!

“அரிமா உருவில் வந்த உன் காவலர்-உன்
அரிய பகைவர்களாக ஆகக் கடவது!

குரங்குகளாக வந்தனர் உன் காவலர்.
குரங்குகளோடு நீ அலைந்து திரிவாய்!

கணவனைப் போல் என்னோடு கூடினாய்
கணவனாகி உன் மனைவியைப் பிரிவாய்!”

தீயிற் புகுந்து உயிர் துறந்த விருந்தை
தூய கற்புக்கு இலக்கணம் ஆனாள்.

விருந்தையின் வெந்த சாம்பல் மீது
வீழ்ந்து புரண்டு புலம்பினார் மால்.

திருமாலின் நிலை கேட்ட உமாதேவி
பெரிதும் மனம் கலங்கி வாடினாள்.

உருவாக்கினாள் ஓர் அரிய விதையை.
பிரமனிடம் தந்து சாம்பலில் இட்டாள்.

தூயத் துளவச் செடி ஒன்று வளர்ந்தது;
துளவம் அழகிய பெண்ணாக மாறியது!

விருந்தையை மறந்து விட்டார் திருமால்;
விரும்பினார் புதியத் துளவப் பெண்ணை.

மணம் நடத்தினர் பிரமன் ஆதி தேவர்கள்.
மாலின் மனைவியும், மாலையும் ஆனாள்.

6#13s. Vishnu and Brinda.

Vishnu got up in Jalandran’s body as if he had come back to life. Brinda was overwhelmed and embraced her dear husband. Vishnu continued to pose as Jalandran and they lived happily.

One day Vishnu forgot to disguise as Jalandran and Brinda discovered his real identity. She became furious at being thus deceived and cast many curses on Vishnu!

“Your dwaara paalakaas came in the form of lions. May they become your deadly enemies. Your dwaara paalakaas came as monkeys. May you roam on the earth in the company of monkeys. You deceived me by posing as my husband. May you suffer the pangs of separation from your wife.”

She jumped into the roaring fire and gave up her life. Vishnu became inconsolable and would lie down on the ashes of Brinda and pine for her. Uma Devi took pity on the sad plight of Vishnu. She created a rare seed which she gave to Brahma and told him to plant in Brinda’s ashes.

A lovely Tulsi plant grew from the seed. It became a lovely girl later on. Vishnu forgot all about Brinda since he fell in love with the new girl Tulsi. Tulsi was duly married to Vishnu by Brahma and the other Devas. She became Vishnu’s wife as well as his garland.

6#13t. ஆழியும், காளையும்

சலந்தரனை அழித்த ஆழிப்படையை
மாலவன் தாமே பெற விரும்பினார்.

ஆயிரம் ஆயிரம் தாமரை மலர்களால்
மாயவன் ஈசனைப் பூசித்து வந்தார்.

ஒரு தாமரை குறைந்தது ஒரு நாள்;
திருமால் இட்டார் கண் தாமரையை.

அன்புக்கு அடிமை ஆகிய சிவபிரான்
அன்புடன் தந்தான் ஆழியை மாலுக்கு.

நான்முகனின் ஒரு நாள் பொழுது
நான்கு இரண்டாயிரம் ஊழிகள் ஆகும்.

திங்கள் ஒன்றுக்கு நாட்கள் முப்பது.
திங்கள் பன்னிரண்டு ஆகும் ஓராண்டு.

நான்முகனின் ஆயுள் நூறு ஆண்டுகள்
நான்முகனின் ஆயுள் மாலுக்கு ஒருநாள்!

மாலின் நூறாண்டுகள் கழியும் போது
உலகங்கள் அழியும் உயிர்களும் கூட.

தீ சூழ்ந்து அழிக்கும் அனைத்தையும்
தூய சுடலை ஆகிவிடும் அனைத்தும்.

“தேவரீருக்கு ஊர்தியாகும் பேற்றை
ஆவலுடன் விழைகின்றேன் ஐயனே!”

அறக் கடவுளுக்கு அளித்தான் ஈசன்
இறவாத தன்மையும் பேராற்றலும்.

பெருமை வாய்ந்த காளை அறக்கடவுள்.
திருமாலும் உருவெடுத்தான் காளையாக!

முப்புரம் சிவன் எரித்தருளிய காலத்தில்
முக்கண்ணனைத் தாங்கியவர் திருமால்.

6#13t. The Discus and Nandhi.

Vishnu wanted to posses the discus which cut Jalandran into two. He did pooja to Siva with one thousand lotus flowers everyday. One day he was short of one flower. He offered his lotus eye in the place of the lotus flower. Siva was touched by this intense bhakti and presented the discus to Vishnu as his weapon.

Two thousand Chatur-Yugams form Brahma’s one day. He has a life span of 100 years. A celestial year also has 12 months and each celestial month has 30 days.

Brahma’s life span is Vishnu’s one day. When Vishnu’s life span of 100 years is exhausted the entire creation would be burned to ashes. The God of Dharma would approach Siva and beg to be allowed to become his vaahana.

Siva would bestow immortality and make Dharma his vaahana Nandhi Devan.
Vishnu also took the form of a bull and carried Siva when Siva burned down the tripura.

6#13u. நஞ்சை உண்டது

இறவாமல் இருக்க விரும்பினர் தேவர்
இணங்கச் செய்தனர் அவுணரை உதவிட!

கடைந்தனர் பாற்கடலை மந்தரமலையால்
கடைத்தறி திங்கள், கடைக்கயிறு வாசுகி.

அமரர்கள் நின்றனர் ஒரு புறத்தில்;
அவுணர்கள் நின்றனர் மறு புறத்தில்.

கடைந்த போது துவண்டது வாசுகி.
அடைந்தது அளவிடமுடியாத துன்பம்.

நஞ்சைக் கக்கியது ஆயிரம் வாய்களால்.
நஞ்சைக் கக்கியது பாற்கடலும் சேர்ந்து.

நஞ்சின் கடுமை பரவியது எங்கும்;
அஞ்சி ஓடினர் அமரர்கள், அவுணர்.

திருக் கயிலையை அடைந்து சிவனை
அருள் புரிய வேண்டிப் பணிந்தனர்.

அடியவனாகிய சுந்தரனிடம் சிவன்,
“கொடிய நஞ்சைக் கொண்டு வா” என

பரந்த நஞ்சைக் கொணர்ந்தார் அவர்.
கரந்தார் அதைக் கண்டத்தில் பிரான்.

“தொடர்ந்து கடைவீர்” என்றார் பிரான்;
தொடர வெளி வந்தன பல பொருட்கள்.

6#13u. Drinking the poison.

Devas wanted the nectar which would make the immortal. Nectar was hidden in the Ocean of Milk. They made the asuras help in this task by promising them their share of the nectar.

Mount Mandara became the churner and snake Vasuki the rope. When the ocean was churned Vasuki suffered and spat deadly poison in the ocean. The ocean also spat out its poison.

The asuras and suras ran away fearing the intensity of the poison. They went to Siva and begged for his help. Siva ordered Sundarar to bring the poison and kept it contained in his throat.

The churning continued and many rare articles emerged from the ocean.

6#13v. கங்கை

கயிலை மலையில் பூம்பொழில் ஒன்றில்
கண்ணுதற் பிரான் அமர்ந்திருந்தான்.

அன்புடன் பின்புறம் வந்த உமையன்னை
கண்களைப் பொத்தினாள் இருகரங்களால்.

இருண்டு போனது உலகம் முழுவதும்!
வருந்தலாயின உலகத்து உயிர்கள்.

கண்களை மூடியது கணப் பொழுதே!
நீண்டது அது பலயுகங்களாக உலகில்!

அருள் கொண்டு உயிர்த்தொகைகள் மீது
உருவாக்கினார் தன் நெற்றிக் கண்ணை!

பரவியது பேரொளி உலகமெங்கும்!
விரவிய பேரிருள் மறைந்து போனது.

உலகத்து உயிர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சி உற்றன.
உமை அன்னையோ அஞ்சி நடுங்கினாள்!

திருக் கண்களைப் பொத்தி இருந்த தன்
இரு கைகளையும் அன்னை உதறினாள்.

அச்சத்தில் பெருகிய வியர்வைத் துளிகள்
பத்து கங்கைகளாகப் பெருகலாயிற்று.

கங்கையின் பெருக்கைத் தாங்கும்படி
மங்கை ஒருபாகனை தேவர்கள் வேண்ட

சடையில் விட்ட கங்கை அடங்கியது!
சடையில் இருந்த கங்கை இறங்கியது

மடை திறந்த புது வெள்ளத்தைப் போல
கடும் தவம் புரிந்த பகீரதன் முயற்சியால்.

6#13v. The Ganges.


Siva was seated in a flower garden in Kailash. Uma Devi came from behind him and playfully covered his eyes with her hands. The world became dark.The creation suffered due to the intense darkness. Even though it has lasted only for a second in celestial scale, the wold went dark for several yuga.

Siva took pity on the living things and created a new eye in his forehead. The darkness was removed and the light returned to the world.

Uma got frightened by this and removed her hands from over Siva’s eyes. She shook her hands in fear. The sweat drops from her fingers became ten mighty rivers called Ganges. Devas begged Siva to control the flow of the Ganges. Siva took it on his matted coil and the flow of Ganges was arrested.

Ganges descended from Siva’s matted coils to the earth due to the effort of Bhageerathan.

6#13w. இடப்பாகம் தந்தது

முன்னர் தோன்றினான் நான்முகன்
பின்னர் படைத்தான் நான்கு மக்களை.

சனகர், சனந்தனர் முதலிய நால்வரும்
முனிவர்களாகித் கடும் தவம் புரிந்தனர்.

திருமாலிடம் விண்ணப்பித்தார் பிரமன்
திருமால் விண்ணப்பித்தார் ஈசனிடம்.

“படைப்புத் தொழில் கைகூடவில்லை!”
சடைத்துக் கொண்டனர் அவ்விருவரும்.

தனியாக அமர்ந்திருந்த சிவபெருமான்
இனிமையாகத் தன் இடத்தோளை நோக்க

அதனின்றும் தோன்றினாள் உமையன்னை!
அளித்தான் தன் இடப்பாகத்தை உமைக்கு.

“கூடி வரும் படைப்புத் தொழில் இனிமேல்!”
தேடிவந்த தேவர்கள் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்.

அருளையே பெண் வடிவாக்கிய ஈசன்
அருளினான் அவளுக்கு இடப்பாகத்தை!

6#13w. Ardha Nareeswar.

Brahma was created first. He then created four sons Sankan, Sanaathanan, Sanandanan, Sanathkumaran out of his mind. But the four brothers were great souls and performed tapas. They were not interested in procreation.

Brahma got very disappointed and told Vishnu. Vishnu conveyed the news to Siva. Siva was seated all alone. He glanced a his left shoulder. Uma emerged out of it. He gave her the left half of his body. He told Brahma and Vishnu, “The creation will become possible now” They went back happily.

Siva made his grace into a female form Uma and gave her the left half of his own body.

6#14a. மாகதர்

இந்திரன் வென்றான் அசுரரைப் போரில்;
நொந்தான் மனம், தோற்ற அசுரஅரசன்.

குலகுருவை அடைந்து வணங்கிய பின்
பலவாறு உரைத்தான் மனக் குறையை.

“உயர்வடைய வழி கூறுங்கள் குருவே!”
“துயர் துடைக்க ஒரு வழியுள்ளது அரசே!

முனிவர் மாகதர் செய்கிறார் கடும் தவம்
இனிய கன்னியை அனுப்புவாய் அவரிடம்.

தோன்றுவான் ஒரு மகன் அவர்களுக்கு!
மேன்மை அடையும் உன்குலம் அவனால்!”

அழகிய அவுண கன்னி விபுதையைப்
பழகுவதற்கு அனுப்பினர் முனிவரிடம்.

தவத்தைக் கெடுத்து அவருடன் கூடி
தவப்புதல்வன் ஒருவனை உருவாக்கிட.

வியந்தாள் முனிவரைக் கண்ட விபுதை.
தயங்கினாள் அவர் தவத்தைக் கெடுக்க.

தானும் தவக் கோலத்தில் அமர்ந்தாள்;
தான் விரும்பி வந்த முனிவர் எதிரே.

6#14 a. Maagadar and Vibudai.

Indra defeated the asura king. He became very sad. He went to his kulaguru and asked for a plan to regain the lost glory.

Guru replied to him,”Rishi Maagadar is doing penance. Send a beautiful asura kanya to beget a son through him. The son born to the rushi will take your race to new heights of glory”

Vibuda was a pretty asura kanya. She was selected for the task. She was sent with instruction to disturb the rushi’s penance and beget a son. Vibuda was deeply impressed by the very sight of the rushi. She did not dare to disturb his penance. She became a tapasvini and sat right in front of the rishi for doing tapas.

6#14b. யானைமுகஅவுணன்.

பிடியோடு கூடியது ஆண்களிறு ஒன்று!
அடியோடு பாழானது முனிவரின் தவம்!

இன்ப வலையில் சிக்கினார் மோகத்தில்.
இன்பம் அடைந்தார் கன்னியைக் கண்டு.

மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் நெருங்கினார் விபுதையை
மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தாள் அவுண கன்னியும்.

எண்ணம் எளிதில் ஈடேறியது என்று.
கன்னியும் மன மகிழ்ந்து கூடினாள்.

யானை வடிவில் கூடினர் இருவரும்
யானைமுக அவுணன் தோன்றினான்

யானைப் பிடியின் மயிர்க் கால்களில்
ஏனைய அவுணகள் பலர் தோன்றினர்.

தாயும் தந்தையும் அஞ்சி ஓடினர்
தத்தம் பழைய வடிவை எடுத்தனர்.

பழைய வடிவை எடுத்ததும் மீண்டது
பழைய உணர்வும் பழைய அறிவும்.

“யார் நீ? என்ன குலம்? எங்கு வந்தாய்?”
நேராக மெய் பகன்றாள் விபுதை.

துன்பக் கடலில் வீழ்ந்தார் மாகதர்.
முன்போல் தவத்தைத் தொடர்ந்தார்.

நடந்தவற்றைக் கேட்ட அசுர அரசன்
அடைந்தான் அளவு கடந்த மகிழ்ச்சி!

6#14b. The elephant faced asuran.

A male elephant and a female elephant were playing amorously. Maagadar saw it and his mind was filled with lust. He was very happy see the tapasvini sitting in front of him. He approached her and she was only too happy to welcome him – since her job would become much easier.

Both of them took the form of elephants and made love. An elephant faced asuran was born. More asuras were born out of the body hairs of the female elephant. Both the mother and the father elephants got frightened to see this and ran away.

They regained their original form and their original intelligence returned along with their original form. The rushi demanded to know all about the girl whom he had made love to. The asura kanya spoke the truth and rushi became very sad indeed. He resumed his intense tapas. Vibuda returned to her place. The asura king was very happy to know these developments.

6#14c. யானைமுகன்

யானைமுகன் திரிந்தான் உலகமெங்கும்;
யானைமுகன் கொன்றான் உயிர்களை!

யானைமுகனின் தன்மைகளை அறிந்து
யானைமுகனை அணுகினார் குலகுரு.

“அசுர குலத்தின் குலகுரு சுக்கிரன்
அரசன் ஆணைப்படி வந்துள்ளேன்!

கற்க வேண்டியவை உள்ளன பல.
கற்பிக்க விரும்பியே வந்துள்ளேன்.

சிவபெருமானை அறியவில்லை நீ!
தவம் எதுவும் புரியவில்லை நீ!

அறியவில்லை பகைவரின் பண்பை
அறியவில்லை நிலையாமையை.

வாணாளை வீணாளாகக் கழித்தாய்.
வானவரையும் ஆளலாம் முயன்றால்.”

குலகுருவின் அடிகளைப் பணிந்தான்,
“நலம் பயக்கும் சொற்கள் புகன்றீர்.

தவம் புரியும் முறையை அறியேன்
தயை புரிந்து கற்பியுங்கள் அதனை!”

சுக்கிரரிடம் கற்றான் அக்கறையுடன்;
உக்கிர தவம் செய்ய விழைந்தான்.

“தவம் புரியத் தகுந்த இடம் மேரு!
தவம் புரிந்து அடைவாய் மேன்மை!”

யானைமுகன் சென்றான் மேருவுக்கு.
யானைமுகன் செயல்களை அறிந்து

பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தனர் அசுரர்,
பெரும் துயர் அடைந்தனர் தேவர்கள்.

6#14c. Gajamukan and Kulaguru.

Gajamukan roamed through the world. He killed mercilessly. When the king of asuras heard about Gajamukhan, he sent kulaguru Sukracharya to him.

Sukracharya introduced himself to Gajamukhan and said, “There are many things worth learning. I came to teach them to you. You do not know Siva the bestower of boons. You do not know the greatness of penance which will make you get whatever your heart desires. You do not know the nature of our enemies. You do not know that the body is impermanent. You have wasted your life so far. You can even rule over the swarga if you so desire!”

Gajamukhan prostrated to the guru and said, ” Sire! You speak of the nicest things I can ask for. But I do not know how to perform penance. Can you please teach all I need to know?”

He was a willing student and learned fast. He decided to a severe penance. Guru suggested Meru Mountain as the ideal spot for doing penance. Gajamukhan went to Meru. Devas became very worried and asuras became very happy!

6#14d. யானைமுகன் தவம்

அடைந்தான் மேருவின் சாரலை அவுணன்;
அமர்ந்தான் கோரத்தவத்தில் யானைமுகன்;

ஐந்தெழுத்தை நிறுத்தினான் நெஞ்சில்!
ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கி விட்டான்.

பெருமானை மனத்தில் நிலை நிறுத்தி
அருந்தவம் செய்யத் துவங்கினான்.

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் இலையே உணவு;
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் தண்ணீரே உணவு;

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் காற்றே உணவு!
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் மும்முறை செல்ல,

மூவாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் செய்த தவம்
மூலத் தீயை எழுப்பி வளர்த்தியது.

விந்து தானத்தில் அமுதம் பருகினான்
நொந்தனர் தேவர்கள் அவனைக் கண்டு.

ஐந்து நெருப்புகளுக்கு இடையே நின்று
சந்திர சூடனை எண்ணித் தவம் புரிய,

மனம் கனிந்தார் பெருமான் முடிவில்!
மனம் களிக்கும் வரங்கள் தந்தார்.

காய்ச்சி உருக்கிய இரும்பைப் போல்
மாய்ந்து விட்டன உடலின் குறைகள்.

காளை ஊர்தியின் மீது காட்சி தந்தார்,
“கேள் வேண்டிய மேன்மைகளை!” என,

“வெல்ல வேண்டும் தேவரைப் போரில்
செல்ல வேண்டும் என் ஆணை உலகில்.

இறவாத தன்மையை நான் பெற வேண்டும்
இறந்தாலும் வந்து பிறவாதிருக்க வேண்டும்!”

6#14d. Gajamukhan’s penance.

Gajamukhan reached the Mount Meru. He sat in penance. He controlled all the five senses. He concentrated on the panchaakshara. He established Siva in his thoughts. For thousand years he lived on leaves. For another thousand years he lived on water. For another thousand years he lived on air.

The penance of these three thousand years awoke his kundalini shakti in moolaadhaara. He guided it to the sahasraaraa and drank the nectar there. The Devas were frightened by the intensity of his tapas.

He stood amidst panchaagni and performed tapas concentrating on Siva. Siva was pleased with this sincere tapas and appeared on Nandhi Devan. The defects in the body of Gajamukhan were purified by the tapas in the same manner iron is purified by heating it.

Siva wanted to bestow boons on Gajamukha. His wished these, ” I must conquer Devas in a battle. The whole world must come under my control. I must become immortal. Even if I get killed, I should not be reborn!”

6#14e. மதங்க மாபுரம்

மேன்மைகள் பெற்ற யானைமுக அவுணன்
மேலுலகம் சென்று வென்றான் இந்திரனை.

பின்னர் திரும்பினான் மீண்டும் நிலவுலகுக்கு;
தென்திசையில் விரும்பினான் தலைநகரை.

கட்டளைகள் இட்டான் அவுணத் தச்சனிடம்.
கட்டி முடித்தான் அவன் மதங்க மாபுரத்தை.

கண்டோர் வியக்கும் கொள்ளை அழகைக்
கொண்டு விளங்கியது மதங்க மாபுரம்.

விரும்பி மணந்து கொண்டான் அசுரன்
விசித்திர காந்தியை, அசுரேந்திரன் மகளை.

அவுணர்கள், தேவர்கள் வந்து வணங்கிட;
ஆணை ஏழு உலகங்களிலும் நடந்திட;

அரிய காமதேனு, சங்கநிதி ஏவல் செய்திட;
இறுமாப்புடன் கொடுங்கோல் புரிந்தான்!

தேவர்களிடம் ஆணையிட்டான் அவன்,
“திருமுன்பு வருமுன்பு செய்ய வேண்டும்,

தலையில் மும்முறை குட்டிக் கொண்டு
தாழ்ந்தெழ வேண்டும் இரு செவி பற்றி!”

பணிந்தெழுந்தது; பணிவிடை செய்தது;
துணிச்சல் இழந்துவிட்ட தேவர்கள் குழு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன் விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#14e. Mathanga Maapuram.

Gajamukhan defeated Indra. He came back to earth. He wanted to rule from his capital city situated in the south. He ordered the asura carpenter. A new city Mathanga maapuram was constructed to suit his needs. It was a beautiful city.

He married Asurendran’s daughter Vichitra kaanthi. Devas and asuras worshiped him. He ruled over the worlds. He had at his beck and call all the riches of swarga. Kamadhenu and sankha nidhi obeyed him. He became a tyrant very soon.

He ordered the Deva, “When you come into my presence, you must rap gently on your temples thrice. You must catch hold of your ears and sit and get up alternately. The Deva dared not to disobey him. They agreed to all these conditions. They worshiped him as suggested and served him well.

6#14f. கணபதி

இந்திரன் புலம்பினான் துயர்களை
நொந்த உள்ளத்துடன் பிரமனிடம்.

நான்முகன் கூறினான் தேவர் துயரை
நாரணன் உள்ளத்தை உருக்கும்படி!

சென்றனர் அனைவரும் கயிலை மலை,
செப்பினர் தம் துயர்களைச் சிவனிடம்.

“வருந்த வேண்டாம் நீங்கள் எவரும்
பெருந்துயர் நீங்கும் என் திருமகனால்”

சிவனும் உமையும் சென்றனர் ஒருநாள்
சிறந்த ஓவியங்கள் உள்ள ஓர் இடத்துக்கு.

பிரணவ எழுத்துத் தோன்றியது தேவிக்கு
இரண்டுருவாக யானை வடிவாக இணைந்து!

திங்களணிச் சடையும், மூன்று கண்களும்,
தொங்கும் வாயும், ஐந்துகரங்களும் கொண்ட

யானை முகப் புதல்வன் தோன்றி விட்டான்
ஏனைய தெய்வங்களுக்குத் தலைவனாக!

அறிவுக்கு அறிவாகி எங்கும் நிறைந்தவன்;
அறிவுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டு என்றும் நிற்பவன்.

அருளே வடிவாகி உருவான ஒரு மகன்;
பொருள் ஆவான் நான்கு மறைகளுக்கும்!

சிவனையும், உமையையும் வணங்கிய
அவனை வாழ்த்தினர் தாய் தந்தையர்.

“எப்பணி இயற்றுமுன் எவ்வித இடையூறும்
அப்பனே உன்னை நினைந்தால் அகலட்டும்!

கணங்களுக்கும் தேவர்களுக்கும் நீயே
கணாதிபதியாக விளங்கி வருவாய்!

கரிமுக அவுணனை அழித்து விடு!
திருமால் சாபத்தை மாற்றி விடு!”

கோவிலில் எழுந்தருளினர் இருவரும்
கோவிலின் வாயிலில் இருந்தார் கணபதி.
