6. தக்க காண்டம்.

கடவுள் வாழ்த்து.

துய்யதோர் மறைக ளாலும் துதித்திடற் கரிய செவ்வேள்

செய்ய பே ரடிகள் வாழ்க சேவலும் மயிலும் வாழ்க

வெய்ய சூர் மார்பு கீண்ட வேற்படை வாழ்க அன்னான்

பொய்யில் சீர் அடியார் வாழ்க வாழ்க இப்புவனம் எல்லாம்.

6#1a. தக்கனும், நான்முகனும்.

சத்திய லோகத்தில் இருந்தான் பிரமன்
நித்திய முக்தர்களும் மக்களும் சூழ்ந்திட;

மக்களில் ஒருவன் பெயர் தக்கன் ;
சிக்கலான கேள்வி கேட்டான் தக்கன்!

"முழு முதல் கடவுள் யார் என்பதை
மழுப்பாமல் கூறுவீர் தந்தையே!"

"மாலும் நானும் முன்னொரு நாளில்
மேலானவர் யார் என ஆராய்ந்தபோது;

ஒளிப் பிழம்பாக நின்று விண்ணையளந்த
களி நடன பிரானே முழு முதற் கடவுள்!"

"படைத்தும், காத்தும் வருபவர்களிலும்,
விடை ஏறும் பிரான் பெரியவனா?"

"அனைத்தையும் ஈற்றில் அழிப்பவர்
அனைவரிலும் பெரியவர் ஆவது சரியே!

திருமாலைத் தோற்றுவித்தார் வலத்தோளில்,
பிரமனைத் தோற்றுவித்தார் இடத் தோளில்.

எமக்குத் தகுந்த தொழில் தந்தார்.
எம்முயிராக நின்று செயல் புரிகின்றார்.

மனதில் நின்று நல்வழி செலுத்துவார்.
மயங்கி நிற்கையில் தெளிவு தருவார்;

மலரில் மணமாக, எள்ளில் எண்ணையாக,
மணியில் ஒளியாக மறைந்து உறைவார்.

யாரை எவர் வணங்கினாலும் அது
சேரும் சென்று சிவபெருமானையே!

மற்ற தெய்வங்களுக்குச் செய்யும் பூஜையும்
குற்றமற்ற சிவனையே சென்று சேரும்."

6#1a. Dakshan and Brahma.

Brahma was seated in Satyaloka surrounded by his sons and the nithya muhkta.

Dakshan, one of his sons asked a question. "Who is the greatest among Gods?"

Brahma replied, "I and Vishnu had this doubt once. We were shown that the Lord Siva who appeared as an infinite mountain of light between us is the greatest among Gods!"

"How can the God of destruction be superior to the Gods of creation and sustenance?"

"He who destroys everything in the end without himself getting destroyed is naturally the greatest. Siva created Vishnu out of his right shoulder and me out of his left shoulder. He allotted us work. He operates from within us. He guides us correctly.

He lies concealed in everything like the fragrance in the flowers, the oil in til and the sparkle in the gems. The obeisance paid by anyone to any God invariably reaches Siva. The pooja performed to any God is directed to Siva."

6#1b. தக்கனும், நான்முகனும்.

படைத்தும், காத்தும், அழித்தும், மீண்டும்
படைத்தும், காத்தும், அழிப்பவன் சிவனே!

அனைத்துலகங்களின் அருட்தந்தை அவன்;
அறு குணங்களுடைய பெருவலிவுடையவன்;

அரிய ஒண்ணாத ஒளி வடிவானவன் அவன் ;
அறிவு வடிவாகி அனைத்திலும் உறைபவன்;

தேவர்களின் முதன்மை தெய்வம் அவன்;
தூய முக்கண்களை உடையவன் அவன்;

சிவன் அருளின்றி முக்தி பெறுவது, அது
விசும்பின் தோலை உரித்து உடுப்பது!

சிவம் பரம்பொருள் என்பதற்கு உள்ளன
பவம் தீர்க்கும் பரமனின் புகழ் மொழிகள்.

மறைகள் போற்றுவது அவ்விறைவனையே!
மறந்தும் நாம் சமம் ஆகவே மாட்டோம்!

சிவனின் தொண்டர்கள் தேவர்கள் ஆவர்;
சிவனே தலைவன் உயிர்த் தொகைக்கு;

பாசத்தால் பந்திக்கப் பட்டவர் மேலும்
மோசம் போகாமல் இருக்க விரும்பினால்

ஈசனின் பாதங்களைப் பற்ற வேண்டும்;
நேசத்துடனும், மாறாத பக்தியுடனும்!"

6#1b. Dakshan and Brahma.

Brahma continued to talk, "Siva creates, sustains, destroys and again repeats all these actions. He is the merciful father of the world.

He has the six divine qualities of Bhagavan. He is infinite pure light. He is pure knowledge! He is the god of the Deva. He has three divine eyes.

Getting liberation without Siva's association is similar to peeling off the sky and wearing it as a dress. There are holy words which prove that Siva is the supreme God.

All the Vedas sing his praise. No one can ever become his equal. The Devas are his devotees. Siva is the God for all living things.

Those whose are bonded by worldly ties must catch hold of his lotus feet with love and bhakthi, if they wish to jump out of the vicious circle of samsaara" .

6#2a. தக்கனின் தவம்.

சிவனைக் குறித்துத் தவம் செய்து
அவனருள் பெற விழைந்தான் தக்கன்;

தவம் செய்வதற்குத் தகுந்த இடத்தைத்
தனக்குத் தருமாறு தந்தையைக் கேட்க;

மனத்திலிருந்து தோன்றிய மானசவாவியை
மகன் தவம் செய்யத் தந்தான் தந்தை.

தடாகத்தை அடைந்த தக்கன் தன்
தவத்தை உடனே தொடங்கிவிட்டான்.

உயிர்க்காற்றை எழுப்பினான் மேலே!
தீயை மூலாதாரத்தில் வெளிப்படுத்தினான்.

அமிர்த தாரையைச் புருவ மத்தியில்
அடைந்து உடலை முழுக்காட்டினான்;

ஒருமையோடு ஐந்தெழுத்தை ஓதினான்;
ஓராயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் தவம் செய்தான்.

காலனை உதைத்த முக்கண்ணன்
காளை ஊர்தியில் எழுந்தருளினான்.

"உளம் மகிழ்ந்தோம் உன் பக்தியால்;
உளம் மகிழ நீ விழைவது யாது?"என,

"என் ஆணையுருளை எங்கும் செல்லவும்,
என் ஆணைகள் என்றும் நிறைவேறிடவும்,

உன்னைப் போற்றுபவர் என்னைப் போற்றவும்,
உனையன்றி பிறதெய்வம் தொழாத மேன்மையும்,

இறைவியே என் மகளாகும் பெரும் பேறும்,
இறைவனே என் மருகனாகும் அரும் பேறும்

தரவேண்டும் தயாபரனே நீ எனக்கு!
தரவல்லவன் தரணியின் நீயே எனக்கு!"

"மேன்மைகள் அனைத்தும் தந்தோம்!
நேர்மையில் நின்றால் நிலைக்கும் அவை!"

6#2a. Dakshan's penance.

Dakshan decided to do penance on Siva and get many special boons from him. He requested Brahma to show him the right spot to do his penance. Brahma gave him Maanasarovar, the divine lake created out of his mind.

Dakshan started his severe penance. He activated the fire in the moolaadaaraa and guided it to the amirtha dhaaraa in the sahasraaraa.

He concentrated on the panchaaksharaa of Siva and did penance for one thousand years. Siva was very pleased with his penance and appeared on Nandhi Devan.

"I am very pleased with your bhakti. What do you wish for?"

"I wish to rule over the world. My orders should be obeyed by everyone. I should never worship another god besides you. Whoever worships you must worship me also. Uma must be born as my daughter. I wish to have you as my son in law!"

Siva bestowed all these boons and said, "You will have all these as long as you stand in the path of dharma!"

6#2b. தக்கனின் ஆட்சி.

பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான் தக்கன்.
வருமாறு எண்ணினான் தந்தையை.

அறிவுக் கண்களால் நிகழ்ந்தவற்றையும்
பிறகு நிகழப் போவதையும் அறிந்தான்.

"ஒரு நகரை உண்டாக்குவாய் எனக்கு!"
ஒரு நகர் உருவானது தக்கபுரியாக!

அரண்மனையில் நுழைந்தான் தக்கன்;
அரியணையில் அமர்ந்தான் தக்கன்.

தக்கன் பெற்ற மேன்மைகளை குரு
தேவர்களுக்கு எடுத்துரைத்தார்.

அஞ்சிய வண்ணம் வந்தனர் தேவர்.
அனைவரும் தக்கன் புகழ் பாடினர்.

சுக்கிரன் கண்டான் தக்கன் மேன்மையை!
சிக்கெனச் சென்றான் அசுரராஜனிடம்.

இந்திரனுக்கு அஞ்சி மேருமலையில்
நொந்து ஒளிந்திருந்தான் அவுணன்.

"தக்கனிடம் செல்வாய் உடனே!"
திக்கு பாலகர்களும் வந்தனர்

சூரியனும், சந்திரனும் வந்தனர்
பெருமை வாய்ந்த தக்கனைத் தொழ.

6#2b. Dakshan's rule.

Dakshan became very happy with these boons. He remembered his father and Brahma appeared there. Dakshan wanted a city from which he could rule the world. Dakshapuri was constructed immediately.

Dakshan walked into his palace and occupied his throne. Deva guru elaborated the various great boons Dakshan got from Siva. Devas thought it was better to be in his good books and came to pay him their respects.

Sukraachaaryaa noticed the honor Dakshan had earned. He went to the Asura rajan who was hiding in Mount Meru to escape from Indra.

He told he asura king, "Go and meet Dakshan immediately!"
The asura king did as commanded.

The ashta dik balakaas came to worship Dakshan. The Sun and the moon also came to pay their respects to Dakshan.

6#3a. தக்கனின் மக்கட்பேறு.

பிரமனின் அடியில் தோன்றியவளும்,
பிரமிக்க வைக்கும் அழகியும் ஆகிய

கற்பில் சிறந்த பெண் வேதவல்லியின்
கரம் பற்றினான் தக்கன் தக்க வயதில்.

ஆயிரம் மகன்கள் உற்பத்தி ஆயினர்.
"உயிர்களைப் படைக்கும் மேன்மை பெற

மனத்தை அடக்கி மாதவம் செய்திட
மானசவாவிக்கு அனுப்பினான் தக்கன்.

ஒருமுகப் பட்ட மனத்தோடு மக்கள்
நெடுங்காலம் செய்து வந்தனர் தவம்.

"வாவி நீரில் நின்று கடும் தவம் செய்து
அவாவியது யாது எனக் கூறுவீர்! என

நாரதர் வினவினார் தக்கன் மக்களை;
நாரதருக்கு மறுமொழி புகன்றனர்.

"படைப்புத் தொழிலைப் பெற விரும்பி
திடமான தவம் செய்ய வந்துள்ளோம்!"

"படைப்பும் ஒரு சீரிய தவப் பயனோ?
படைப்பும் குற்றம் மிகுந்த தொழிலே!

பிறப்பும், இறப்பும் மாறிமாறித் தந்து
பெரும் துயர் தருவதும் மேன்மையோ?

படைப்புக் கடவுள் பிரமன் தலையை
எடுத்துக் களைந்தார் சிவன் அன்று.

மாலுடன் போரிட்டு ஒளிமலையின்
முடியை நாடித் தோற்றான் பிரமன்."

6#3a. Dakshan's children.

Dakshan married Vedavalli who was born out of Brahma's feet. They got one thousand sons. Dakshan wanted his sons to do penance in Maanasarovar and get the power of creation as the boon. The sons went to Maanasarovar and did severe penance for a very long time.

Narada came there and asked them, "Why do you perform such a severe penance?"

The sons of Dakshan told him, "We want to get the power of creation as the boon, as ordained by our father Dakshan."

"Is the power of creation a worthy fruit of this kind of severe penance? Creations is not devoid of demerits. By giving the creatures life and death alternately, the creator is causing a lot of sorrow.

Brahma the lord of creation is not the supreme god either! Siva plucked away one of the heads of Brahma. Brahma fought with Vishnu and could not find the top of the pillar of light which was Siva himself."

6#3b. நாரதரின் போதனை.

"படைப்பதும், அழிப்பதும் சிவன் அன்றோ?
படைப்புத் தொழிலும் ஒரு பெருமையோ?

பொன் விலங்கைக் காலில் விரும்பிப்
பூட்டிக் கொள்பவர்கள் அறிவிலிகள்!

இன்பங்களை எத்தனை நடுகின்றோமோ
துன்பங்கள் அத்தனைக்கும் வந்து சேருமே!

சிவனை மறந்து விட்டு உண்மையில் தானே
அவனைவிடப் பெரியவன் என்று மயங்கினால்

தீவினைகள் பலவும் செய்யத் துவங்குவீர்!
தீய எண்ணங்கள் விளையத் தொடங்கும்.

படைப்புத் தொழில் விரும்புவதை விடுங்கள்;
கடைத் தொழில்களில் ஒன்று ஆகும் அது!

வீடுபேறு ஒன்றே நீங்கள் விழையத் தக்கது.
வீடு பேற்றை விரும்பி முயலுபவர் பலர்.

மிக்க செல்வத்தால் மமதை கொண்ட
தக்கன் கூற்றை மறந்து விடுங்கள்."

ஆராய்ந்த மக்கள் அடைந்தனர் ஞானம்;
நாரதர் கூற்றை நம்பினர் முழுவதும்.

மெய்யுணர்வை போதித்தார் நாரதர்;
பொய்யுணர்வு அழிந்தே போய் விட்டது.

நாரதர் காட்டிய பாதையில் நடந்தனர்;
நவின்ற வீடு பேற்றை அடைந்தனர் அவர்.

6#3b. Narada's teachings.

"The creation and the destruction are done by Siva himself. Wishing to become the creator is like wearing a handcuff of gold willingly. The more happiness and pleasures we seek, the more sorrows we will end up with!

The power of creation will go into the head and make the person believe that he is greater than Siva himself. He would get conceited and start doing wicked things.

The fruit of this kind of penance should be liberation or mukti. People keep trying for mukti all the time. Forget the order given by your father conceited with power. Seek liberation and escape the cycle of births and deaths"

The thousand sons of Dakshan understood the message of Narada. They sought Libeation as the fruit of their penance and got liberated from samsaaraa.

6#3c. மீண்டும் ஆயிரம் மக்கள்.

தவம் செய்யச் சென்ற தன் மக்கள்
பவம் ஒழிந்து வீடு பேறடைந்தனர்!

அறிவுப் பார்வையால் உண்மையை
அறிந்து மிக வருந்தினான் தக்கன்.

ஆயிரம் மகன்களை உற்பத்தி செய்தான்,
உயிர்களைப் படைக்கும் மேன்மை பெற.

மனத்தை அடக்கி மாதவம் செய்வதற்கு
மானசவாவிக்கு அனுப்பினான் மக்களை.

நாரதர் வந்தார் முன் செய்தது போலவே.
நன்னெறி கூறி நல்வழிப் படுத்துவதற்கு.

தந்தையின் விருப்பப்படி தவம் செய்த
விந்தை மக்களுக்கு விவரம் உரைத்தார்.

"படைப்புத் தொழிலால் பயன் இல்லை.
அடையும் திருவடிகளே தவப்பயன்!"

அழுக்குப் படிந்த உடலை உடையவர்
அழகிய நீர்நிலையை அடைந்த பின்னும்

அழுக்கைக் கழுவாமல் விருப்பத்துடன்
அமிழ்வது சேற்றில் அறிவுடைமையா?

சின்னஞ்சிறு குழந்தைகளின் மனம்
சஞ்சலம் மிகுந்த பெண்களின் மனம்

சித்தம் குழம்பியவர்களின் மனம்
எத்தனை முயன்றாலும் மாறாதவை.

ஆயிரம் மக்கள் உமக்கு முன் பிறந்தவர்
தூய அறிவுரையால் வீடு பேறடைந்தனர்."

"அவர்களுக்குக் கூறிய மெய் நெறிகளை
அய்யனே எமக்கும் எடுத்துரைப்பீர்!" என

"சிவபெருமானின் தாமரைத் திருவடிகளை
அவன் அருளாலேயே வழிபடுபவர்கள்

அடையும் பதங்கள் நான்கு வகைப்படும்.
அவற்றில் சிறந்தது வீடுபேறு அடைவதே.

தேவர்களுக்கும் கிடைப்பதற்கு அரிது.
பூவுலகத்தினருக்கே கிடைக்கும் அது."

பொய்யறிவினை அகற்றிப் புகட்டினார்
மெய்யறிவினை தக்கனின் மக்களுக்கு.

ஒருமையுடன் தவம் செய்த அம்மக்கள்
பெருமையுடைய வீடு பேறு அடைந்தனர்.

6#3c. The birth of 1000 more sons.

The thousand sons who went to do penance did not return. Dakshan used his gnaana dhrushti and found out the chain of events. He felt very disappointed. He and his wife got one thousand more sons. They too were sent to Maanasarovar to do penance and become the Gods of creation.

Narada appeared as before. He told Dakshan' s one thousand sons,"There is no greatness in becoming the god of creation. The only worthwhile aim in doing penance should be liberation. A man who has a dirty body should find a clean water pond and bathe in it. If he chooses to bathe in mud and become more dirty, is it wisdom?

The minds of small children, wavering ladies and the mad people cannot be changed by any amount of effort. The thousand sons who were born before you got liberated by their penance."

The thousand sons asked Narada to teach them the true knowledge.

Narada continued, "We worship God with bhakti because of his grace on us. The bhakti gives us four things in life. Of the four the highest is mukti. Even the Deva cannot attain mukti. It is only men who can attain it through their penance.

The thousand sons got enlightened. They did penance with unwavering mind and got liberation.

6#3d. தக்கனின் பெண்கள்.

நீண்ட காலம் கடந்து சென்ற பின்னும்
மீண்டு வரவில்லை ஆயிரம் மகன்கள்.

அறிவுக் கண்ணால் ஆராய்ந்தான் தக்கன்,
பிறந்தது கடும் சினம் மீண்டும் மனத்தில்.

உள்ளம் வருந்தியது; உயிர் பதைத்தது;
உடல் வியர்த்தது; துன்பம் மிகுந்தது;

ஒன்பது கோள்களும் அஞ்சி ஓடின;
மண்ணுலகம் எல்லாம் மனம் இரங்கியது.

"பிரித்தான் என் மக்களை என்னிடமிருந்து!
திரியவேண்டும் நாரதன் நாடோடியாக!

ஆண் மக்களைப் பெற்று ஏமாற மாட்டேன்
பெண் மக்களையே பெறுவேன் நான் இனி."

உறுதி பூண்ட தக்கன் பெற்றான்
இருபது மூன்று பெண்களை மீண்டும்.

பதின்மரை முனிவருக்கு அளித்தான்
பதின்மூவரை தருமனுக்கு அளித்தான்.

The thousand sons who went to Maanasarovar did not come back. Dakshan learned from his gnaana dhrushti the chain of events. He became very angry and sad. His heart fluttered.

His life force wavered. His body poured sweat and he suffered from grief. The nine planets got frightened by the intensity of his feelings. The earth pitied the almighty Dakshan.

"Narada has done it again! He separated my sons from me for the second time. May he roam around in the the world as a nomad! I will not beget any more sons and get separated from them. I will beget only daughters in future."

He got twenty three daughters. Of these thirteen were given in marriage to Dharma and ten to the rushis.

6#4a. திங்களின் சாபம்.

பெண்கள் இருபத்து எழுவர் பிறந்தனர்.
பெண்களைத் திங்களுக்கு மணமுடித்தான்.

"சமமாக அன்பு செலுத்து இவர்களிடம்;
சரியாக நடந்து கொள் இவர்களிடம்!"

தன் இருப்பிடத்தை அடைந்தான் திங்கள்;
தன் மனைவியரிடம் அன்பு பாராட்டினான்;

அழகிற் சிறந்த கார்த்திகை, ரோகிணியிடம்
அளவு கடந்த அன்பு செலுத்தினான் திங்கள்.

காலப் போக்கில் பிறரை வெறுத்தான்;
காதல் அன்பைத் தரவும் மறுத்தான்.

வருந்திய பெண்கள் சினம் அடைந்தனர்
அருமைத் தந்தையிடம் விண்ணப்பித்தனர்.

தக்கனும் சினந்தான் மருமகனிடம்;
தக்க சாபம் அளித்தான் திங்களுக்கு.

"கலைகள் யாவும் தேய்ந்து குறைந்து
நிலை தடுமாற வேண்டும் நீ இனிமேல்!"

திங்களின் கலைகள் குறையலாயின;
திங்கள் தினமும் நலிந்து மெலிந்தான்!

ஒரு கலை மறைந்தது தினம்தோறும்.
ஒரு கலை மட்டுமே மிஞ்சி இருந்தது.

நாணம் கொண்டான் செய்வதறியாமல்.
நாடினான் உதவிக்கு அமரர்கோனிடம்.

6#4a. The Curse on the Moon.

Dakshan got twenty seven daughters more. He married all of them to the God of Moon.

He told his son in law, "Love all my daughters equally. Treat them all well!"

The God of moon loved all his wives, but as days rolled on he became more attached to Kaarthigai and Rohini and neglected the other wives.

The twenty five daughters complained to their father Dakshan about the indifference towards them.

Dakshan cursed the God of Moon,"May your beauty and strength get reduced everyday!"

The full moon has sixteen "kalai". The moon started losing "a kalai" of his beauty everyday. Soon only one was left. The next day he would become invisible. He did not know what to do and went to Indra seeking advice.

6#4b. இந்திரனும், சந்திரனும்.

"தக்கனின் சாபத்தால் அழிந்து விட்டன
மிக்க அழகு வாய்ந்த என் கலைகள்!

எஞ்சி இருப்பது ஒரு கலை மட்டுமே!
அஞ்சி நிற்கிறேன் நாளை அழியும் இது!

மறைந்தே போய்விடும் என் உருவம்!
குறைந்தே போய்விடும் என் புகழும்!

செய்வது என்ன என்று அறியேன்;
செய்வாய் காலத்தால் ஒரு உதவி!"

"அஞ்சாதே என் இனிய நண்பனே!
எஞ்சி உள்ளதே ஒரு கலையெனும்.

ஒரு நாள் நகைத்தாய் கணபதியின்
திரு வயிற்றை, மோதகத்தைக் கண்டு.

கணபதி சினந்து சாபம் அளித்தார்,
"காணாமல் அழிந்து போகக் கடவாய்!"

அன்று முதல் உன்னைக் காணமல் செல்ல
விண்ணில் இயங்காமல் ஒடுங்கினாய் நீ!

சென்றனர் தேவர்கள் கணபதியிடம்,
வேண்டினர் சாபத்தை மாற்றி அமைக்க.

ஆவணித் திங்கள் பூர்வ பட்ச சதுர்த்தியில்
அண்ணலைப் பூஜித்து உன்னை ஒதுக்கினர்.

இருக்கும் பழிபோதாது என்று இன்று
இன்னொரு பழியும் வந்து சேர்ந்தது.

நான்முகனை அணுகி விண்ணப்பித்தால்
தன் மகன் சாபத்தை மாற்றி விடுவார்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#4b. Indran and Chandran.

"I lost all my beauty and my body due to the curse of Dakshan. Now I have just one kalai which will also vanish tomorrow. I will become invisible and my name and fame will be destroyed!" Chandra lamented to Indra. "I am at my wit's ends. please tell me what to do now!"

"Do not worry dear friend Chandran! At least you still have one kalai left. Once you laughed at and made fun of Ganapthy's pot belly and the modakam in his hand. He cursed that you should disappear. You hid yourself from that day. Deva went to Ganapathy and requested him to change the saapam.

Now you have got one more curse in addition. Go to Brahma. I am sure he can undo his son's curse."

6#4c. சந்திரனும், பிரமனும்.

சத்திய லோகத்தைச் சென்றடைந்தான்
சந்திரன் இந்திரன் கூறிய வண்ணம்.

நான்முகனை வணங்கிக் கூறினான்,
நாணத்துடன் தான் பெற்ற சாபத்தை!

"தக்கனிடம் கூறி சாபத்தை விலக்குவீர்!"
மிக்க பணிவோடு விண்ணப்பம் செய்தான்.

"எடுத்துச் சொன்னாலும் கேளான் தக்கன்" என
மறுத்துவிட்டான் வேண்டுகோளை நான் முகன்.

"அன்பர் துயர் தீர்ப்பவன் என்றும் நம்முடைய
அன்பருக்கு அன்பன் சிவபெருமான் அன்றோ?

காலனை உதைத்துச் சிறுவனைக் காத்தது
நீலகண்டன் என்பதை அறியாயோ நீ?

விடை ஏறும் பிரான் இருப்பதே தன்
அடியாருக்கு அருள் புரிவதற்கே ஆம்.

சிவன் திருவடிகளைச் சரண் புகுவாய்.
அவன் திருவருளால் சாபம் ஒழிப்பாய்!"

சந்திரன் அடைந்தான் கயிலை மலையை.
நந்தி தேவரிடம் சென்று விண்ணப்பித்தான்.

சிவன் தாள் பணிந்து அருள் வேண்டினான்.
சிவன் மனம் இளகியது; அருள் பெருகியது;

எஞ்சிய ஒரு கலையை அணிந்தார் சடையில்.
அஞ்சி விலகியது தக்கனின் இட்ட சாபம்!

"செஞ்சடை சேர்ந்த கலைக்கு அழிவில்லை.
அஞ்சாதே இனி அழிவில்லை உனக்கு!

பழைய கலைகள் வளர்ந்து பின் தேயும்
பதினைந்து நாட்களில் ஒரு கிரமப்படி!"

விண்ணில் மீண்டும் இயங்கினான் சந்திரன்
தன் கலைகள் வளர்ந்து தேயும் வண்ணம்.
