4 # 13. d. The discus of Sooran.

Murugan had sealed the doors connecting the different worlds with his arrows.

Soorpadman opened the door again with his arrows.

The asura army started pouring in from every world!

The merciful eyes of Murugan became red with anger when he saw the asura army.

With the help of his axe, trident and discus he destroyed the whole army of asura.

Soorapadman prayed to his discus and threw it on Murugan.

It sped fast terrorizing the onlookers but quietly surrendered to Murugan.

Soorapadman assumed many forms and started shooting arrows.

Murugan shot his arrow of knowledge and the Maya was removed.

Now Soorapadman stood tired, worn out and all alone.

He became invisible and flew away with his chariot to another universe.

He challenged Murugan from there and Murugan followed him.

Again Soorapadman vanished with his chariot and went to another world.

Murugan went chasing him. This went on or a long time.

Finally after running from Universe to universe in vain,

Sooapadman returned to his capital city Veeramahendrapuri.

4 # 13. e . உயிர்ப்பித்தல்.

தாயை நினைவு கூர்ந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.
மாயை தோன்றினாள் கண்முன்னே!

“நிகழ்ந்த போரில் படைகள் அழிய
நிற்கின்றேன் நான் தனி ஒருவனாக;

இறந்தவர்கள் உயிர் பெற்று எழுந்திட
இயம்புவாய் ஒரு நல்ல உபாயம்!”

“பெரும்புறக் கடலின் அருகே உள்ளது
இறந்தவர்களை உயிர்ப்பிக்கும் மலை.

அமுதசீதமந்திரகூடத்தைக் கொணர்ந்தால்
அழிந்த அவுணர்கள் உயிர் பெற்றெழுவர்.

தாயின் சூழ்ச்சியால் மகிழ்ந்த சூரன்
மாயவள் கூறிய ஔஷத மலையைக்

கொண்டு வரும்படிப் பணித்தான் தேரை!
கொண்டு வந்தது மலையை அந்தத் தேர்.

உயிர்பெற்று எழுந்தனர் அவுணர்கள்.
உயிர்பெற்று எழுந்தன கரிகள், பரிகள்,

உயிர்பெற்று எழுந்தான அரிமாக்கள் .
உயிர் பெற்று எழுந்தனர் அரிமுகன்,

தீ முகன, பானுகோபன், வஜ்ஜிரவாகு,
அதிசூரன், அசுரேந்திரன், தருமகோபன்.

அனைவரும் கூடினர் சூரபத்மன் அருகே.
அனைவரும் தொடங்கினர் போர்த்தொழிலை.

கைகளைத் தட்டிக் குதூகலித்தான் முருகன்
மெய் சோர்ந்து தளர்ந்தனர் தேவர்கள்.

4 # 13. e. The resurrection.

Soorapadman thought of his mother Maayaa. She appeared before him. He requested her, “I have lost all my army and I am all alone now. Please tell me a way of bringing back to life everyone who had got killed in the war so far”

Maayaa replied, “There is a mountain beyond the sea, called Amutha seetha mantharakoodam. It can resurrect the dead people and animals. If you can bring it over here, the entire army will come back to life”

Sorapadman became very happy. He ordered his chariot Indragnaalam to bring the mountain. The chariot went away and brought the mountain with it.


The entire army came back to life! All the warriors, all the horses, elephants, lions, as well the heroes Singamukhan,

Agnimukhan, Bhaanukoban, Vajrabaahu, Athisooran, Asurendran and Dharmagopan.

They all assembled near Soorpadman. They started to fight the army of demons. Murugan who was pleased with this new developments, clapped his hand and smiled. The devas lost all hope and became down hearted!

4 # 13. f. மீண்டும் போர்.

மீண்டுவந்த அவுணவீரர்கள் உடனே
மீண்டும் தாக்கினர் முருகக்கடவுளை!

பாசுபதக் கலத்தை முருகன் எடுத்தான்;
ஆசுரர்கள் மீது அதை அவன் விடுத்தான்.

“அரிமுகன் முதலிய அவுணரை எல்லாம்
அழித்து வருக !” என ஆணை இட்டான்.

கொடிய பாம்புகள், நஞ்சு , ருத்திரர,
இடிக்கூட்டம், பூதங்கள் வெளிப்பட

விரைந்து சென்றது பாசுபத அஸ்தரம்
விரைந்து கொன்றது அவுணர் குழுவை.

உயிர் பெற்று மீண்டு வந்த அவுணர்கள்
உயிர் துறந்தனர் மீண்டும் ஒரே நொடியில்!

உயிர் கொடுக்கும் ஔசத மலையும்
உடைக்கப்பட்டது பொடிப் பொடியாக.

தான் தனியன் ஆனது போல் முருகனைத்
தனியனாக ஆக்க வேண்டும் அல்லவா?

“முருகனைச் சூழ்ந்துள்ள படைகளை
ஒருவர் விடாமல் கவர்ந்து செல்வாய்!”

ஆணையிட்டான் சூரன் இந்திர ஞாலத்திடம்.
ஆணையை நிறைவேற்றியது அந்தத் தேர்.

உலகத்தில் கவர்ந்த பூதப் படையை
உலகின் உச்சியில் கொண்டு வைத்தது.

“நன்று! நன்று!” என நகைத்தான் சூரன்;
“வென்று கொணர்க இந்திரஞாலத்தை!” என

முருகன் விடுத்தான் கணையை விரைந்து.
திரும்பக் கொணர்ந்தது தேருடன் வீரரை!

“சூரபத்மன் அழிவது உறுதி ” என்றதும்
சூரபத்மனிடம் செல்லவில்லை இந்திரஞாலம்.

முருகக்கடவுளின் அருகே சென்று நின்றது
விருப்பத்துடன் அந்த இந்திரஞாலத் தேர்!

4 # 13. f. The war is resumed.



The asura army which was brought back to life by the oushada giri, resumed the war with Murugan. The Paasupatha asthram was shot by Murugan on the asura army with the command, “Destroy the army of Asura”



The asthram sped emitting poisonous snakes, poisonous fumes, Rudras, thunderbolts and demons. It destroyed the army resurrected in a single moment. It shattered the medicinal mountain to pieces. Soorapadman stood all alone by himself again.


He decided to make Murugan also a lone warrior. He commanded his chariot “Take far away the entire army of Murugan!” The chariot took away all the warriors to the top of the world and held them there.

Sooran was very pleased with his plan. Murugan shot an arrow and commanded it to bring back safely his entire army. The arrow reached the top of the world and brought back the chariot with the army inside it.

When the chariot knew that the end of Soorapadman was near, it did not go back to him. Instead it stayed near Murugan on it own free will.

4 # 13. g. விற்போர் .

திரும்பி வராத தேரைக் கண்டு
தீயைப் போல் சினந்தான் சூரன்.

அம்புகள் சொரிந்தனர் மழைபோல்
அவுண அரசனும், ஆறுமுகனும்!

மின்னும் சூலத்தை எறிந்தான் சூரன்!
விண்வழியே அது விரைந்து சென்றது.

வெளிக்கக்கியது தீ நாக்குகளை!
வெளிப்படுத்தியது இடிமுழக்கங்களை!

வெளிக்கொணர்ந்தது படைக்கலன்களை.
வெளிக்காட்டியது அளவற்ற ஆற்றலை!

குலிசத்தினிடம் ஆணையிட்டான் முருகன்
“சூலப் படையைப் பிடித்து வருக!”

தீயை உமிழ்ந்து விரையும் சூலத்தை
தீண்டிப் பற்றியது முருகன் குலிசம்.

சூரன் அமர்ந்து இருந்த அரிமாவை
ஈராயிரம் கணைகளால் அழித்தான்.

மாறினான் சூரன் ஒரு சக்கரவாளமாக!
சீறி எழுந்தான் விண்ணில் சிறகடித்து!

பறவையைத் துரத்திய முருகன் தானும்
பறவையின் மீது அமர்ந்து கொண்டான்.

மயில் வடிவு எடுத்தான் அமரர்கோன்
முருகனைத் தாங்கிப் பறந்தான் விண்ணில்.

கைவில்லைக் கறிக்கவந்த பறவையைக்
கைவாளால் இரண்டாகினான் முருகன்

இந்திரன் முதலிய தேவர்கள் அங்கே
இன்பக் கூத்தாடினார்கள் மகிழ்ந்து!

4 # 13. g. The fight!


When the chariot Indragnaalam did not go back to Soorapadman, he grew very angry.

He showered arrows on Murugan and Murugan showered arrows on Sooran.

Soorapadman threw his trident on Murugan. It sped fast through the sky emitting fire, thunder claps, war weapons and exhibited immense destructive power.

Murugan commanded his kulisam (vajraayutham) , “Go forth, arrest and control the trident”

The kulisam hurried and took hold of the fiery trident. Murugan killed the lion on which Soorapadman was seated.

Now Soorapadman changed into a ChakravaaLa bird and took off in the sky. To chase a bird, Murugan needed to ride a bird! Indra took the form of a peacock, carried Murugan on his back and started chasing the huge bird.

When the Sooran-turned-into a bird came to bite off the bow of Murugan, he cut the bird into two with his mighty sword. The Deva danced with joy!

4 # 13.h . பல்வேறு மாய வடிவங்கள் !

பல்வேறு வடிவெடுத்து சூரபத்மன்
பார்ப்போர் வியக்கப் போர்செய்தான்.

திக்குகளை மூடிநின்ற உருவத்தை
அக்கணமே அழித்தான் ஆறுமுகன்.

நிலத்தையும், வானையும் இணைக்கும்
நீர் வடிவில் நிமிர்ந்து நின்றான் சூரன் .

நூறு தீக்கணைகளை முருகன் எய்யவே
நீர் வடிவம் நொடியில் மறைந்து போனது.

தீ வடிவெடுத்து நின்றான் சூரபத்மன்;
தீ வடிவை அழித்தது காற்றுக் கணை.

காற்றாக மாறி நின்றான் சூரபத்மன்;
காற்றை அழித்தது பாம்புக் கணை.

நான்கு நாட்கள் தொடர்ந்த போரில்
நானா வடிவங்கள் எடுத்தான் சூரன்.

அவுணர்கள் போல மாறி வந்தான்;
அமரர்கள் போலவும் மாறி வந்தான்;

யமன் போலவும், இந்திரன் போலவும்,
பேயைப் போலவும், தீயைப் போலவும்;

கடலைப் போலவும், காற்றைப் போலவும்,
இடியைப் போலவும்; இருளைப் போலவும்;

முகிலைப் போலவும், நஞ்சைப் போலவும்,
மலையை போலவும், தாரகன் போலவும்,

தீமுகன் போலவும், பானுகோபன் போலவும்,
திரிமூர்த்தி போலவும், தருமகோபன் போலவும்!

ஆறுமுகன் கணைகளைத் தொடர்ந்து செலுத்தி
அழித்துவிட்டான் அத்தனை மாயவடிவுகளையும்!

4 # 13. h. Various deceptive forms of Sooran.

Soorapadman assumed various deceptive forms and fought with Murugan.

He covered all the eight directions by assuming a huge form. Murugan’s arrow destroyed that huge form.

He stood as a giant water pillar from earth to the heaven. One hundred arrows of fire shot by Murugan dried up the form.

Soran stood as a burning fire. The arrow of wind shot by Murugan destroyed it. Sooran became a strong wind. Murugan destroyed it with a snake asthra.

The war went on for four days. Soorapadman took many forms and fought murugan. He came changing himself as the asuras, as the deva, as yama, as Indra, as a ghost, as fire, as wind, as a sea, as pitch darkness and as thunder bolts, as clouds, as poisons, as mountains, as Taarakan, as Agnimukhan as Bhaanukoban, as thrimoorthis and as Dharmagopan.

Murugan destroyed every one of these deceptive forms by shooting arrows.

4 # 13. i. முருகனின் பேருருவம்.

"உன் பொய் உருவங்களைக் காட்டினாய்.
என் மெய் உருவத்தைக் காண்பாய்!"

உலகங்கள், திக்குகள், கடல்கள்
உயிர்கள், தேவர்கள் அனைத்தும் உள்ள

உடல் ஒன்றை எடுத்தான் முருகன்.
உண்மையைச் சூரன் உணரும்படி.

இருந்தன மலைகள் உள்ளடிகளில்.
இருந்தன கடல்கள் புறவடிகளில்.

இருந்தன விண்மீன்கள் விரல்களில்.
இருந்தான் வருணன் பரட்டில்.

இருந்தனர் முனிவர் கணைக்காலில்.
இருந்தனர் வித்யாதரர் முழந்தாளில்.

இருந்தான் தொடையில் இந்திரன்
இருந்தான் தொடை மூலத்தில் காலன்.

இருந்தனர் அரையில் அவுணர்கள்
இருந்தனர் விலாவில் அமரர்கள்.

இருந்தனர் மூலாதாரத்தில் நாகர்கள்
இருந்தது அமுதம் ஆண்குறியில்

இருந்தன நாபியில் உயிர்த்தொகை.
இருந்தன மயிர்களில் உலகங்கள்.

இருந்தனர் தோள்களில் மால், பிரமன்.
இருந்தனர் கைவிரல்களில் தேவமகளிர்

இருந்ததன மறைகள் திருவாயில்
இருந்தது பேருருவம் வியக்கும்படி.

அஞ்சிய அமரர்க்கு ஆறுமுகன்
அஞ்சேல் என அருள் செய்தான்.

4 # 13i. Murugan’s viswaroopam.

“You showed me your false forms. Now look at my true form!” Murugan told Soorapadman and assumed his viswaroopam.

All the worlds, all the living things, all the devas, all the oceans and all the direction could be seen in his viswaroopam.

The mountains were seen under his feet, the oceans on his feet, the stars were on his toes, Varunan was seen on .

The rushis were seen on his ankles, the Vidhyadaras on his knees, Indra was on his thigh, kaalan was on his groin, asuras were on his waist, devas were on his ribs, naagas were on his moolaadaaram, amrita was in his genitals, the living things were on his naval, the worlds were on his hair, Brahma and Vishnu were on his shoulders, apsaras were on his fingers, The Vedas were in his mouth.

Even Deva got frightened to see the viswaroopam. Murugan removed their fear.

4 # 13. j. சூரபத்மனின் மாற்றம்.

முருகன் தந்த நல்லுணர்வால்
உருகினான் ஒருகணம் சூரபத்மன்!”

சிறுவன் என நான் நினைத்திருந்த
ஒருவன் இதோ என்முன் நிற்கின்றான்!

உலகங்களையும், உயிர்களையும்
உள்ளடக்கி உயர்ந்து நிற்கின்றான்.

தூதுவன் சொன்னான் என்னிடம் அன்றே
தூய பரம்பொருள் ஆவான் இவன் என்றே!

ஆயிரத்தெட்டு அண்டங்களும் இவன்
அடித்தாமரையில் அடங்கி விட்டனவே!

காணக் கண்கள் ஒரு கோடி வேண்டுமே!
காமனை வெல்லும் அழகன் முருகனை!

பொருத நினைந்து இவன் வந்ததும்
அருளின் வெளிப்பாடு என்பது உறுதி!

சினம் தீர்ந்தது , ஊக்கம் குறைந்தது,
சிந்தின கண்கள் ஆனந்தக் கண்ணீர்.

உருகியது உள்ளம், பிறந்தது அன்பு,
உண்டானது அறிவு, அகன்றது மமதை.

தவத்தின் பயன் இவன் தரிசனமே!
தீவினை நீங்கி நல்வழி சேருவேன்!

வலம் வரவேண்டும் என் கால்களால்
வணங்க வேண்டும் என் கரங்களால்.”

நல்லுணர்வு நீங்கியது முன் போலவே!
பொல்லாத ஆணவம் தலை தூக்கியது.

பேருருவை நீக்கி ஆறுமுகன் தன்
சிறுவன் வடிவத்தைக் கொண்டான்.

4 # 13. j. Dawn of the Truth!

Murugan gave Soorapadman some good sense. Soorapadman became completely transformed now.

“The boy who I thought was any ordinary boy stands before me now in his viswa roopam. Everything in the creation can be seen in his body.

The messenger told me long ago that Murugan is the true God of Gods.
All the 1008 universes I rule over lie under his lotus feet. I need ten million eyes to drink the beauty of this god who will put to shame Manmathan himself. He has come to fight with me only to shower his grace on me!

Soorapadman’s heart melted with love. His valor was gone, his anger disappeared, his pride was destroyed and tears of joy rolled from his eyes.

“I must do pradakshinam to this holy boy. I must do namsakaram with my hands and bend my head in front of him.”

Murugan removed the good sense and Soorapadman became his original haughty and arrogant-self in a minute.

4 # 13. k. மீண்டும் போர்!

பழைய பகைமையும் சினமும் பிறந்தன!
பழைய ஊக்கமும் வீரமும் வளர்ந்தன !

“கள்ளன் என் மனத்தை மயக்கி விட்டான் .
கற்ற மாய வித்தையைக் காட்டிவிட்டான் .

தேவர்களையும் வெல்வேன்! சிறுவனையும்!
தேவர்கள் கலங்கச் சூளுரைத்தான் சூரன்.

மாய மறையை ஓதினான் - இருண்ட
மாய வடிவு எடுத்துக் கொண்டான்.

சிரங்கள், கரங்கள் பல கொண்டுள்ள
கோர வடிவுடன் சூரன் ஆர்ப்பரித்தான் .

விண்ணுக்கும், மண்ணுக்குமாக நின்று
உண்ண விரும்பினான் அமரர்களை.

கூரிய வேலிடம் கூறினான் குமரன்,
“சூரனின் மார்பைப் பிளந்து மீளுக!”

ஆயிரம் கோடி ஆதவர் ஒளியுடன்
ஆர்வத்துடன் விரைந்தது வேற்படை.

மாயை நீங்கியது இருள் விலகியது!
தீயைப் போன்ற செந்நிறத் தளிர்களும்,

பச்சை நிறத்தில் மெல்லிய காற்றில்
புகை போன்று சலசலக்கும் இலைகளும்,


பொன் போன்ற மலர்க் கொத்துக்களும்,
விண்முகில் போன்ற பரந்த கிளைகளும்,

மரகத மணிப் பச்சையில் காய்களும்,
மாணிக்க மணிச் சிவப்பில் கனிகளும்,

நிறைந்த மாமர வடிவெடுத்தான் சூரன்.
நூறாயிரம் யோஜனை அகன்றிருந்தான் !

4 # 13. k. The mango tree!

Soorapadman became as arrogant, angry and valorous as before. He told to himself, “This boy confused my mind using his maya tricks! I will defeat the Devas and him as well!”

Sooran chanted a mantra and assumed a huge dark form. He developed several hands and heads and stood as tall as the sky. He wanted to grab and gobble the now tiny Devas.

Murugan did not want to waste any more time. He ordered to his mighty spear “Go and tear open Soorapadman’s chest!”

The spear sped along emitting the light of a thousand crore suns shining together. The darkness disappeared. The maayaa was removed.

Now Sooran transformed himself into an unusual mango tree! The tender leaves of the tree were as red as the tongues of fire.

The leaves were ever-rustling and resembled the smoke.
The flower bunches resembled the color of pure molten gold.

The raw mangoes resembled the green emeralds.
The ripe fruits of the tree were pure carbuncle.

The tree was so huge that it measured one hundred yojanas across.

4 # 13. l. சேவலும், மயிலும்.

அகன்ற தன் வடிவினை கர்வத்துடன்
அசைத்தது அந்த அதிசய மாமரம் !

நிலவுலகம் சரிந்தது, பின்னர் மறிந்தது
நிலை தடுமாறின உலகத்து உயிர்கள்.

மாயமரமாகி நின்ற சூரபத்மனை
மாயோன் மருகனின் வேல் பார்த்தது.

விரைந்து சென்று தாக்கி அழித்தது.
அரற்றலோடு விழுந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

சிவன் தந்த பல மேன்மைகளினால்
அவன் உயிருக்கு இல்லை ஆபத்து.

பழைய வடிவம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டான்
சுழற்றினான் சூரன் தன் உடைவாளை .

மீண்டும் தாக்கியது முருகனின் வேல்!
அண்டர்கோனை துண்டாக்கி விட்டது .

இரு கூறுகளும் விழுந்தன ஆழ்கடலில்.
திரும்பியது வேல் தேவகங்கையில் மூழ்கி!

மாளாத சூரன் எழுந்தான் மீண்டும்!
தாளாத செருக்குடன் திருமுன்பு வந்தான்!

சேவலும் , மயிலுமாக அவன் மாறிவிட்டான்
செவ்வேள் அருள் தந்தது நல்லறிவினை.

“தேரில் சேவற் கொடியாக இருப்பாய் நீ !”
சேவலிடம் செவ்வேள் சொன்னான் இதை.

மயிலாக மாறியிருந்த இந்திரனை விடுத்து
மயிலாக மாறியிருந்த சூரன்மீது அமர்ந்தான்!

4 # 13. l. The cock and the peacock.

The strange mango tree moved its branches. The world lost it balance and the living beings felt threatened. The spear saw the now transformed Sooran and attacked him. He cried out in pain and fell down. Sooran did not die because of the boons showered on him by Siva.

He assumed his original form, grabbed his sword and came in front of Murugan. The spear attacked him again - this time tearing his body into two pieces.

The torn body fell in the sea. The spear took a holy dip in the Deva Ganga and returned to Murugan’s hands.

Sooran was torn but not dead. He got up from the sea. But his body got transformed to a cock and a peacock.

Murugan ordered the cock, “Be on my flag !”

He got down from the peacock which was Indra and climbed onto the back of the peacock which was Soorapadman.

(God’s aim is to kill only the pride, the ahankaaram and the garvam to subdue them and not take out the life of the wrong-doers.)

4 # 14. தேவர்கள் புகழ்ச்சி.

சூரனின் ஆணவத்தை அடக்கி யவனை
ஊர்தியும் கொடியும் ஆக்கியவனை
பணிந்து தொழுதது பூதர் கூட்டம்
பணிந்து தொழுதது அமரர் கூட்டம் .

"கார்தடிந்து துய்க்கும் கனைகடலின் நீர்வறப்பப்
போர்தடிந்து செல்லும் புகர்வேல் தனைவிடுத்துச்
சூர்தடிந்தாய் அன்றே தொழும்அடியேம் வல்வினையின்
வேர்தடிந்தாய் மற்றேமக்கு வேறோர் குறையுண்டோ ?

மாறுமுகங் கொண்டுபொரும் வல்லவுணர் மாளாமல்
நூறுமுகம் எட்டு நோதக் கனபுரியத்
தேறுமுகம் இன்றித் திரிந்தேமை ஆளுவன்றோ
ஆறுமுகங் கொண்டே அவதரித்தாய் எம்பெருமான்.

நீதி முறையதனில் நில்லா அசுரர்புரி
தீது பலவுளவுந் தீர்ந்தோம் பழியகன்றோம்
வேத நெறிதொல்லை வெறுக்கையோடு பெற்றனமால்
ஏதும் இலையால் எமக்கோர் குறைஎந்தாய்.

மன்ற அவுணர் வருத்திடஇந் நாள்வரையும்
போன்றி னவரென்னப் புலம்பித் திரிந்தனமால்
இன்று பகை மாற்றி எமக்கருள் நீ செய்கையினால்
சென்ற உயிர்மீண்ட திறம்பெற் றனம்ஐயா."


4 # 14. Praising Murugan!

The devas and demons worshiped and praised Murugan for destroying the pride of Soorapadman and making him his own vahana and flag.

4 # 15. இரணியன்.

"ஆறுமுகன் வேற்படையினால்
அழிந்து பட்டான் சூரபத்மன்!"

செய்தி கேட்டதும் பதுமகோமளை
செய்வதறியாமல் உயிர் நீத்தாள்.

அழுது புலம்பினர் பிற மனைவியர்!
தொழுது விழுந்தனர் பெரும் தீயில்.

சேவலும் மயிலுமாக மாறிய சூரனை
எண்ணிக் கலங்கினான் மகன் இரணியன்.

"என்னுயிர் தரவில்லை உனக்கு !
இன்னுயிர் காக்க ஓடி ஒளிந்தேன்.

மறைந்த பின் திரும்பி உள்ளேன்.
குறைகள் நிறைந்துள்ள புன்மகன்.

தேவர்கள் போற்ற நின்ற நீ இன்று
கூவுகிறாய் முருகன் கொடி நின்று !

உலகங்கள் தொழுத நீ இன்று
உலவுகின்றாய் ஊர்தியாக நின்று."

பலவாறு புலம்பினான் இரணியன்;
குலகுரு சுக்கிரர் தேற்றினார் அவனை,

இரணியன் செய்தான் ஈமக் கடன்களை;
திருமகள் நீங்கினாள் அந்நகரை விடுத்து.

“செல்வம் வித்தாகும் துன்பத்திற்கு!”
சென்றான் தவம் செய்து வீடுபேறு அடைய.

4 # 15. Hiranyan.

When the queen Padumakomalai heard the news of the death of Soorapadman, she just dropped dead. The other queens lamented, cried and jumped into a roaring fire pit.

Hiranyan who went and hid himself after changing into a fish came out and shed bitter tears. “I am not a worthy son dear father! I hid myself instead coming to your help. You were the ruler of 1008 universes. But now you crow from Murugan’s flag as a cock and carry him around as a peacock!”

Sukraachaariya consoled him and Hiranyan performed the last rites to his father. Lakshmi Devi deserted the city. Hiranyan understood that wealth was the root cause of all the problems. He left to a lonely spot to do penance and attain liberation.

4 # 16. தேவரைச் சிறை மீட்டல் .

வீரவாகுத் தேவரைப் பணித்தான் முருகன்
“சிறை மீட்பாய் தேவர்கள் கூட்டத்தை !”

மகேந்திரபுரியை அடைந்தான் வீரவாகு.
மனம் உடைந்த தேவர்களிடம் சென்றான்.

“முருகன் அழித்தான் சூரபத்மனை - மால்
மருகனிடம் செல்வோம் நாம் வாருங்கள் !”

சிறைநீங்கி வந்தது தேவர்கள் குழாம்
முருகனின் தாண்மலர்கள் பணிந்தது.

இறந்த பூதர்கள் உயிர்த்து எழத்
திருவருள் செய்தான் திருமுருகன் .

எழுந்த படைகள் தொழுதன அவனை!
“எழுந்து மறைப்பாய் மகேந்திரபுரியை !”

முருகன் ஆணைப்படிப் பொங்கியெழுந்த
வருணன் மறைத்தான் மகேந்திரபுரியை.

திரும்பினான் முருகன் பூதப்படையுடன்;
திருச்செந்தூர் திரும்பவும் அடைந்தான்.

பிரமன், முதலிய தேவர்கள் குழாம்
முறைப்படி வழிபட்டது முருகனை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

4 # 16. Releasing the imprisoned Devas.

Murugan ordered Veerabaahu, “ Go and release all the devas from Soorapadman’s prison!”

Veerabaahu reached Mahendrapuri. The devas had lost all hope of freedom. Veerabaahu told them, “Murugan has put an end to the atrocities of Soorapadman. Come let us go back to him!”


They all reached Thiruchendoor and worshiped Murugan.

The army of the demons had suffered a heavy loss. Murugan decided to bring back all the dead warriors to life. Every single demon killed in the war came back to life.

Murugan ordered Varuna, “Submerge the city of Veera mahendra puri under your water!” The sea swelled up and swallowed the city and everything in it.

Murugan went back to Tiruchendoor with his army. Brahma and the other devas wanted to worship Murugan with due honor. He accepted their puja and prayers.

This brings us to the end of the fourth kaandan

5. தேவ காண்டம்.

முருகவேள் வணக்கம்.

மாயையின் வலியோன் ஆகி மான்முத லோரை வென்றே

ஆயிரத் தோரெட் டண்டம் அரசு செய் துகம் நூ றெட்டுக்

காயம தழிவின் றாகிக் கடவுளர்க் கலக்கண் செய்த

தீய சூர் முதலைச் செற்ற குமரன் தாள் சென்னி வைப்பாம்.

5 # 1. பரங்குன்றம் சென்றடைதல்.

மயில் ஊர்தியில் ஏறிக் கொண்டான் முருகன்;
அயிராஜன் முதலியவரைப் பணித்தான்;

"உம்முடைய ஊர்திகளில் அமருங்கள்;
எம்முடன் யாம் செல்லுமிடம் வாருங்கள்!"

கொம்பு, காளகம், பேரிகைகள் ஒலித்தன;
உம்பர்கள் பயணித்தனர் முருகனுடன்;

மறை ஒலியையும், வாழ்த்தொலியையும்
மறைத்துவிட்டன சேவலும், மயிலும்.

அசைந்தன மலைகள் போக்குவரத்தால்;
அடைந்தனர் அனைவரும் பரங்குன்றம்;

பராசர முனிவரின் குமாரர்கள் அறுவரும்
பிரார்த்தனை செய்தனர் அங்கு தங்கிவிட.

தேவத் தச்சன் அப்போதே அமைத்தான்
தேவாதிதேவனுக்கு உரிய ஓர் இடத்தை.

கோவில்கள், பொழில்கள், குளங்களுடன்
கோலாகலமாக மாறியது பரங்குன்றம்.

அனைவரையும் உரிய இடத்தில் அமர்த்தி
அடைந்தான் முருகன் தன் அரியணையை.

மெய்யன்புடன் வழிபட்ட தன் அன்பருக்கு
மெய்யறிவு தந்தான் திருமுருக பெருமான்.

5 #1. Returning to Parangkundram.

Murugan sat on his peacock. He requested the other Devas and Gods to sit on their respective vaahanams and accompany Murugan. Musical instruments were played.

They all traveled together with Murugan. The sound made by the cock and the peacock overshadowed the Vedic chanting and rushis' blessings.

The mountain trembled due to the heavy traffic. They reached Parangkundram. The six sons of rushi Paraasara prayed to Murugan to stay there.

Viswakarma built a place worthy of Murugan. Temples, gardens, tanks and ponds beautified Prangkundram.

Murugan offered seats to all the gods and Deva and went on to sit in his own throne.
