4 # 12. c. அரிமுகனுடன் போர்.

வீரவாகு போர்க்கோலம் பூண்டார்;
நூறாயிரத்து எண்மருடன் சென்றார்.

கடுமையான போர் தொடங்கியது.
கொடுமையான தாக்குதல் நடந்தது.

முன்னணி முறிந்தது பூதர்களின்;
தண்டப் பிரயோகம் செய்தார் சிங்கர்.

சிந்தின அவுணர்களின் பற்கள்;
சிதறின அவுணர்களின் தலைகள்,

தசமுகன் பொருது வீழ்ந்தான்;
துன்முகன் செய்தான் மாயப்போர்.

நூறு நூறு வடிவங்கள் எடுத்தான்;
ஒரு பூதரைத் தாக்குவதற்கு.

அறிவுப் படைக்கலம் செலுத்தி
அழித்தார் மாயையை வீரவாகு.

வில்லை ஒடித்து மார்பைத் தாக்கித்
தொல்லை தந்தார் வீரவாகுத் தேவர்.

மயங்கி விழுந்தவன் பின் தெளிந்து,
மாயமறையால் விண்ணில் மறைந்தான்.

4 # 12. c. War with the asura.


Veerabaahu donned his armor and got ready for the war. The one hundred thousand and eight warriors accompanied him.

A terrifying war broke out between the armies of demons and the asura. When the demons suffered a setback, Singar took over and started using his dandam with expertise.

The teeth of the asuras fell off and their heads got smashed and crushed. Dasamukhan fell dead in the war. Durmukhan did war by treachery. He assumed one hundred forms for attacking every single demon.


Veerabaahu shot his arrow of knowledge which removed the maayaa. Veerabaahu broke the bow and hit Durmukhan in his chest.

He swooned but came his senses soon. He chanted the secret mantra and disappeared in the sky.

4 # 12.d. அரிமுகன் வந்தான்.

அவுணர் படையின் பின்னடைவால்
அரிமுகன் வந்தான் பூதப் படைமுன்.

எரி எழ மூச்சை உயிர்த்தான் அவன் .
எரிந்து போயின பூதர் ஆயுதங்கள்.

மலைகள், மரங்களைப் பெயர்த்து
மலை போல் நின்றவன்மீது வீசினர்.

கயிலையைச் சூழ்ந்த முகிலெனப்
பைய விழுந்தன பஞ்சுப்பொதி போல்.

குதித்தான் அரிமுகன் நிலத்தில்
குலுங்கியது பூமி அதிர்வுகளால்.

எற்றினான் பூதரைத் தேவருலகுக்கு;
எற்றினான் பூதரைக் கடல் நீருக்குள்.

எற்றினான் பூதரை நிலத்தின் மேல்.
எற்றினான் பூதரைத் திசைகள் தோறும்.

அள்ளினான்; தள்ளினான்; எற்றினான்;
உதைத்தான், மிதித்தான், நசுக்கினான்,

களைத்த பூதர்களை வலிமையால்
சளைக்காமல் அழித்தான் அரிமுகன்.

4 # 12. d. Singa mukhan appears.

When the army of the asura suffered a set back, Singamukhan came

to the war front. He breathed fire which destroyed all the armaments

of the demons.

They started throwing on him the uprooted trees and mountains.

But he was so huge that these appeared as the clouds surrounding

the mount Kailas and fell down like balls of cotton without hurting

him. He jumped down from his chariot. The earth shook under the

impact.

He kicked the demons into the sky, into the sea, on the ground

and in every direction. He picked them up in bunches,

he threw them down, he kicked them, he stamped on them

and crushed their bodies mercilessly. Thus he destroyed the army of

the demons effortlessly.

4 # 12.e. அரிமுகன் போர்.

அழியும் பூதர்களைக் கண்டு சினந்தார்
அழற்கண்ணன் என்னும் பூதத் தலைவர்.

சூலப்படையை எறிந்தார் அரிமுகன் மேல்!
ஏலாமல் அழிந்தது ஒருசிறு முள்போல்.

அரிமுகன் எறிந்த தடியால் அடிபட்டு
பெருகியது உதிரம் மார்பு பிளந்து.

பெரிய மலையைப் பிடிங்கிய சுமாலி
எறிந்தார் மலையை அரிமுகன் மீது .

பந்துபோல அவன் அதைப்பற்றி வீச,
வந்து தாக்கியது சுமாலியின் மார்பை.

தடியுடன் பாய்ந்தார் தண்டி அவன்மீது.
தடி முறிந்தது அரிமுகனை அடித்ததும் .

வெறியுடன் குதித்தார் பூதர் தண்டி
அரிமுகனின் ஈராயிரம் தோள்கள் மீது.

வெறும் ஈயாகவே அவரை மதித்து
உருட்டித் துடைத்து எறிந்தான் அரிமுகன்.

நூறாயிரத்து எண்மர் முன் சென்றனர்.
கூரிய கணைகளைப் பொழிந்தனர்.

பூதாகாரமான அரிமுகன் உடல்மேல்
பூமழையானது அந்தக் கணைமழை!

அடித்தும், ஒடித்தும், எடுத்தும், எறிந்தும்,
பொடித்தும் அழித்தான், அரிமுக அவுணன் .

அஞ்சி நடுங்கிய நூறாயிரத்து எண்மரும்
அக்கணமே புறமுதுகு இட்டு ஓடலாயினர்.

4 # 12. e. Singamukhan.

Azharkkannar threw his soolam on Singamukhan.
It fell down without harming him like a small thorn.

He started bleeding heavily when Singamukhan threw a dandam on his chest. Sumali threw an uprooted mountain of Sinagmukhan. He caught hold of it and threw it back like a ball hitting Sumali on his chest.

Dandi pounced on Singamukhan with his dandam. The dandam broke into pieces. Dandi jumped on the two thousand shoulders of Singamukan in rage.

He was considered to be just an insect and Singamukahn crushed him with his fingers. The thousand and eight warriors showered arrows on Singamukhan.

The rain of arrows fell on his huge body like a shower of flowers. He crushed every one by hitting, punching, boxing, breaking, throwing, kicking and stamping.

The one thousand and eight warriors took to their heels from the battlefield!

4 # 12. f. வீரவாகுவும், அரிமுகனும்.

வீரவாகு வளைத்தார் தன் வில்லை!
விடாமழை எனப் பொழிந்தன கணைகள்.

சினந்தனர் நூற்றுவர் அரிமுகன் மக்கள்;
சிந்தினர் கணைமழை வீரவாகுவின் மீது!

வாட்போர் தொடங்கியது வீரர்களிடையே.
வாட்போரில் வீழ்ந்தனர் அவுணர் நூற்றுவர்.

சூலப் படையை எய்தான் அரிமுகன்!
நீலகண்டன் வாளால் துண்டானது அது.

சிவப் படைக்கலத்தை வீரவாகு எய்யவே
சிவப் படைக்கலத்தை அரிமுகன் எய்தான்.

இரண்டு படைக்கலன்களும் கலந்துறவாடித்
திரும்பிச் சென்றன எய்தவர்களிடமே!

மாய்க்கும் உபாயத்தைச் சிந்தித்த அவுணன்
மாயப் பாசத்தைக் கையில் எடுத்தான்.

“பூதர்களைக் கட்டி, அவர்கள் உயிரை உண்டு,
ஆதவன் தோன்றும் மலை மீது வைத்து,

அவர்களை விட்டு அகலாமல் விலகாமல்
அங்கேயே இருப்பாய் ஆகுக !’ என்றான்.

மாற்றுப் படைக்கலன் செலுத்தும் முன்பே
மாயப் படைக்கலன் விரைந்து சென்றது!

தோதாகப் பிணித்தது பூதர்களை எல்லாம்.
ஆதவன் தோன்றும் மலைமேல் வைத்தது.

“பாடி வீட்டில் பயல் பதுங்கி உள்ளானா?
ஓடிச் சென்று ஒளிந்து கொண்டானா? ' என்று

தீயை நாடும் விட்டில் பூச்சியாகியவன்
தீயிற் தோன்றிய முருகனிடம் சென்றான்.

4 # 12. f. Veerabaahu and Singamukhan.

Veerabaahu shot arrows continuously from his bow. The one hundred sons of Singamukhan became enraged. They too rained arrows on Veerabaahu.

A sword fight ensued and the one hundred sons of Singamukhan got killed in it.Singamukhan threw his soolam at veerabaahu. He promptly cut it into two with the sword given by Siva.

Veeravaagu shot the asthram of Siva and Singamukhan did likewise.
The arrows interacted and then went back to their owners.

Singamkhan planned the death of the army of demons by treachery.
He ordered the paasam given by Maayaa Devi,

“Go forth and bind the army of my enemy.
Kill all the warriors and place them on the hill at the eastern side. You too remain there with them.”

Before Veerabaahu could shoot the nullifying arrow, maya paasam hurried and bound all the demons. It carried them to the top of the mountain in the east.

Singamukhan went looking for Murugan teasing
whether the little boy had run away or gone into hiding?

Singamukhan going in search of Murugan born out of fire,
was very similar to a moth being attracted by the flame,
which will eventually cause its death.

4 # 12. g. முருகபிரான்.

தேரில் ஏறினான் முருகக் கடவுள்,
தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ந்து ஆரவாரித்தனர்.

பூதர் புடைசூழ தேவர்கள் துதிக்க,
புறப்பட்டான் முருகன் போர்க்களம்!

அரிமுகன் படையுடன் எதிர்த்தான்;
அவுணர்கள் அழிதலைக் கண்டான்;

மாயையினால் தரித்தான் பேருருவம்.
மருண்டனர் தேவர்கள், பூதர்கள்.

அண்டங்கள் போன்ற ஆயிரம் வாய்கள்!
உண்டு விழுங்கின பூதர்க் கூட்டத்தை!

மூச்சுக் காற்றுடன் உட்புகுந்து பின்
மூச்சுக் காற்றுடன் வெளி வந்தனர்.

ஆயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதங்களையும்
அடக்கிவிட்டான் அரிமுகன் வயிற்றில்.

களித்தான் சூரன் செய்தி கேட்டு!
அளித்தான் பரிசு தூதுவனுக்கு.

பக்க துணையாகப் படையை அனுப்பி ,
பார்த்தான் போரை உயர ஏறி நின்று!

விண்ணளவு வளர்ந்த அரிமுகனையும்,
மண்ணில் தனித்து நின்ற முருகனையும்,

கண்டு மிக மகிழ்ச்சி கொண்டான்.
பண்டு அடைந்த துயரம் பறந்தது!

4 # 12. g. Lord Murugan.

Murugan climbed into his chariot and the Deva cheered him heartily.
He went to the battle field accompanied by his army. Singamukhan came forward to fight Murugan.

He was unhappy to see the setback suffered but the asura army. He assumed a gigantic form, The Deva and the demons got frightened.

His thousand mouths were like a thousand worlds. He swallowed the army of Murugan, grabbing it by handfuls. The demons were alternately drawn in and thrown out by his breath!

Soon every single demon warrior was inside his stomach.
Soorapadman became very happy to hear this news and
showered costly gifts on the messenger.

He sent his army as a back up to Singamukhan. Sooran climbed on a tall tower and was happy to see Singamukhan stand towering to the sky and puny little Murugan standing on the ground all alone.

All his sorrows and fears disappeared and he became very happy.

4 # 12. h. அவுணனும், ஆறுமுகனும் .

வில்லை வளைத்தான் வடிவேல் முருகன்;
விற்புருவத்தையும் உடன் வளைத்தான்!

எல்லை இல்லாத நாண் ஒலி எழுப்பினான்;
தொல்லைகள் தந்தது அந்தப் பேரொலி.

ஆயிரம் அண்டங்கள் வெடித்துச் சிதற,
அறிவிழந்து விழுந்தனர் அவுணர்கள்.

வீழ்ந்தன கரிகளும், பரிகளும் ;
அழிந்தன தேர்களும், பிறவும் ;

முருகன் முன் சென்றான் அரிமுகன்,
ஒரு கேள்வி கேட்டான் முருகனிடம்,

“சிவனார் திருமகனே! பதில் கூறும் !
அவுணர்கள், தேவர்கள் பகைவர்கள்;

பகைவரை ஒறுப்பது அரசன் கடமை!
பகைமை எம்மிடம் நீ கொண்டது ஏன்?”

“வலியவன் எளியவனை ஒறுத்தால்
எளியவனைக் காப்பது எம் கடமை.

சிறையில் அடைத்தீர் அமரர்களை.
சிறை நீக்குவது எம் கடமை ஆனது.”

“பிழைக்க விரும்பினால் ஓடிவிடு நீ !
அழிய விரும்பினால் போரிடு சிறுவா!”

4 # 12. h. Murugan and Singamukhan.

Murugan drew his bow. He bent his bow-like eye brows in anger. The

noise made by his bow made the worlds tremble. The army of the

asura fell faint on the ground!

The elephants and horses rolled down on the ground.

Chariots and everything else got destroyed.

Singamukhan went in front of Murugan and put a question to him.


“Answer my question oh son of Siva! Devas are our sworn enemies.

The duty of a king is to punish his enemies. Then why do you wage

war on us for doing our kingly duty?”

Murugan replied, "If the mighty people trouble the meek and the

weak, it is my duty to save the meek from the mighty. You have

imprisoned the Devas and it is my mission to free them from your

prison!”

Singamukhan became mad with rage and warned Murugan,“If you

want to live, run away now. If you want to get killed start the war."

4 # 12. i. அரிமுகன் ஆறுமுகன் போர்.

முருகன் எய்தான் ஒரு கணையை;
அரிமுகன் பெருக்கினான் குருதியை!

மார்பில் நுழைந்து ஊடுருவி
முதுகில் வெளிவந்தது கணை.

பெருத்த துவாரத்தின் வழியே
வருந்திய பூதர் வெளிவந்தனர்.

புறத்தே வரும் பூதர்கள் கூட்டமா?
புற்றிலிருந்து வரும் கரையான்களா?

மாயப் பாசத்தில் பிணைக்கப்பட்டு
ஆதவன் மலையில் விழுந்து கிடக்கும்

பூதர்களை மீட்க எண்ணிய முருகன்
கோதில்லாத கணையிடம் சொன்னான்,

"மீதம் இல்லாமல் பூதர்களைக் கொணர்க!”
கதிரவன் எழும் மலையை அடைந்தது;

அறுத்து விடுவித்தது மாய பாசத்தை!
உறங்கியவர் போல் எழுந்தனர் பூதர்.

கணையே மாறியது ஒரு விமானமாக!
கணத்தில் சேர்த்தியது முருகனிடம்.

நாண் ஒலியில் தளர்ந்து விழுந்தவர்
மீண்டும் எழுந்தனர் போர் புரிய.

கணைகளை எய்தான் கந்தக் கடவுள்,
கணைகள் பறந்தன காற்றெனக் கடுகி!

நஞ்சினை நிகர்தவை சில கணைகள்;
நமனை நிகர்த்தவை சில கணைகள்,

இருளை நிகர்தவை சில கணைகள்,
இடியை நிகர்தவை சில கணைகள்,

பாம்பை ஒத்தவை சில கணைகள்,
பானுவை நிகர்தவை சில கணைகள்,

அவுணர்கள் படை அழிந்துபட அங்கே
அரிமுகன் தனியன் ஆகி நின்றான்!

4 # 12.i. The war between Murugan and Singamukhan.

Murugan shot an arrow which pieced through Singamukhan’s chest and came out of his back. The asura started bleeding heavily. Through the hole the demons swallowed by him emerged, resembling the termites coming out of an ant hill.

Murugan wanted to save and bring back the warriors bound and carried away by the paasam of maayaa. He shot an arrow an ordered it to bring back all his army.

It sped fast, broke loose the paasam of Maaya. The arrow transformed itself into a vimaanam and brought back the warriors safely to Murugan.

The asuras who had swooned on hearing the terrible noise made by the bow, now came to their senses and started to fight.

Murugan shot several arrows. Some of them were poisonous, a few others were like yama in ending the life of the enemy. A few were like the thunder and a few others like perfect darkness.

A few scorched the enemies like the sun and fire. The entire army of Singamukhan was destroyed in no time and he stood all alone in the battle field.

4 # 12. j. அரிமுகன் முடிவு.

அறுக்க அறுக்க மீண்டும் முளைத்தன!
அரிமுகன் உறுப்புகள் வியப்பை அளித்தன!

ஓராயிரம் தலைகளும், ஈராயிரம் கரங்களும்
அறுக்கப்பட்டன ஆயிரத்து எட்டு முறைகள்.

நிலத்தில் கைகள் விழும் முன்னரே
முளைத்தன நீண்ட கரங்கள் வேகமாக.

முளைத்த கரங்களால் அரிமுகன் கீழே
விழுந்த கரங்களை எடுத்துப் போரிட்டான் .

ஆயிரம் கணைகளால் ஆயிரம் தலைகள்
அறுபட்டபோதும் மீண்டும் முளைத்தன.

வெட்டுண்ட உறுப்புக்கள் பறந்து திரிந்தன
விண்ணிலும், மண்ணிலும், திசைகளிலும்.

கண்டவர் மயங்கி விழுந்தனர் அச்சத்தால்
கந்தன் ஓர் உபாயம் கண்டு கொண்டான்.

ஒரு சிரம், இருகரம் தவிர்த்து விட்டு
பிற உறுப்புக்களை அறுத்தான் முருகன் .

முளைக்கத் தொடங்கிய புதிய உறுப்புகள்
முருகனின் அதட்டலால் அடங்கி விட்டன.

மீண்டும் முளைக்காத உடல் உறுப்புகளால்
மண்டியது சினம் அரிமுக அவுணனுக்கு.

முருகன் குலிசப்படையைப் பணித்தான்,
“அரிமுகன் உயிரை உண்டு வருவாய்!”

அறுமுகனின் குலிசம் விரைந்து சென்றது.
அரிமுகன் உயிரைக் குடித்து விட்டது.

தேவகங்கையில் மூழ்கி எழுந்தபின்
தேவர்கள் மகிழ முருகன் கைசேர்ந்தது.

போரைப் பார்த்தபடி உயரே நின்றிருந்த
சூரபத்மன் மருண்டான், தன் இளவல்

மயங்கினானா? அன்றி மாய்ந்தானா?
தயங்கி நின்றவனுக்குச் செய்தி வந்தது.

ஓலமிட்டுப் புலம்பினான் சூரபத்மன்
தாளமுடியாத துயரச் சுமையினால்.

4 # 12. j. The fall of Singamukhan.

The hands and heads which were cut off by Murugan grew back immediately on Singamukhan body. Murugan was surprised by this. The thousand hands severed by one thousand arrows fell down but new hands grew back so that Singamukhan took the severed hands and fought using them as weapons!

The heads also grew back immediately. Murugan chopped off the thousand heads and two thousand hands one thousand and eight times. But every time every limb grew back. The limbs cut off flew in the sky, on the land and in every direction, frightening the onlookers so that they fainted and fell down.

Murugan decided to put an end to this. He cut off all the heads but one and all the hands but two. When the new limbs tried to grow back, he made a threatening sound which put them out of action and they did not grow back again. Singamukhan became very angry now.

Murugan ordered his kulisam “Go and finish off Singamukhan!” His kulisam sped fast and killed Singamukhan. It went and took a holy dip in the Deva Ganga and returned to the hands of Murugan.

Soorapadman who was watching the fight from a high tower was confused as to whether his younger brother just fainted or fell dead. Then the messengers brought the bad news. He shed bitter tears unable to bear his sorrow.

4 #13 a. சூரபத்மன்.

“ஆயிரத்தெட்டு அண்டங்களில் உள்ள
அவுண மள்ளர்களை அழைத்து வருக!”

நால்வகைப் படைகளுடன் அவுணர்கள்
நிலவுலகுக்கு வந்தனர் விரைந்து.

அளவு கடந்த மக்கள் கூட்டத்தால்
ஆதவன் ஒளிக்கதிர் மங்கி விட்டது.

நடுங்கினான் அக்னி, வியர்த்தான் வாயு,
நடுங்கியது நிலவுலகு, வற்றின கடல்கள்.

மண்ணிலும், விண்ணிலும் அவுணர்கள்;
திக்குகளிலும், திசைகளிலும் மள்ளர்கள்.

காலைக் கடன்களை முடித்தான் சூரன்;
ஆடை அணிகலன்களைப் புனைந்தான்;

தெய்வப் படைக்கலன்களை நிறைத்தான்
தெய்வத்தேர் ஆகிய இந்திரஞாலத்தில்.

அரிமாக் கொடியை உடையது அது.
அரிய தேரில் ஏறினான் சூரபத்மன்.

பகைவரை விரட்ட வல்லது அது.
பிரமன் அழிந்தாலும் அழியாதது அது.

சூரபத்மனுடன் வேள்வித் தீயினில்
ஆரவாரத்துடன் தோன்றியது அது.

4 # 13.a. Soorapadman.

“Send for all the asura warriors living in the various worlds!”

Soorapadman ordered his messengers.

All the asuras came down to the earth with their chaturanga sena immediately.

The earth became so crowded that the light of the Sun became dim.

Agni shivered and Vayu sweated. The earth trembled and the seas dried up.

Asuras were to be seen everywhere.

Soorapadman got ready early in the morning.

He wore his ornaments and armor.

He filled up the divine chariot Indragnaalam with the divine asthras and sasthras.

He himself got into another chariot which had appeared in the yagna fire along with him.

The chariot was capable of driving away the enemies.

It was indestructible. It had the image of a lion in its flag.

Excellent thoughts, brought out beautifully in poem form. Am sure every one of us will agree with the thoughts. Alas none tend to follow, most of us are hypocrites, never speak what is really inside, interested in self, and pleasing others. 4 # 13. b. முருகன் திறமை.

சூரபத்மன் வந்த செய்தி கேட்டுப்
போருக்குப் புறப்பட்டான் முருகன்.

தேரோட்டி கொணர்ந்தான் அங்கு
தேர் மனோவேகத்தைத் திருமுன்பு.

மழு, குலிசம், சூலம், வேற்படை;
ஏழ , வில், கணை, பரிசை,

உருளை , தடி , வாள் ஏந்தித்
திருமுருகன் தேரில் ஏறினான்.

நூராயிரத்து எண்மர், மற்றவர்,
ஈராயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதர்கள்!

படை நடந்தது, களம் அடைந்தது,
படைகள் கலந்தன ஒரு போரில்.

பூதர்கள் தோல்வி அடைந்தனர்,
பூதர்கள் புறமுதுகிட்டு ஓடினர்.

நூறாயிரத்து எண்மரும் நீங்கவே
வீரவாகுவும் தளர்ச்சி அடைந்தார்.

ஆறுமுகனைச் சூழ்ந்த அவுணர்கள்
ஆரவாரத்துடன் போரிடலாயினர்.

வில்லை வளைத்தான் முருகன்;
நாணொலி எழுப்பினான் முருகன்;

எல்லை இல்லாத தொல்லையை
ஏற்படுத்தினான் வேல்முருகன்!

கலங்கின உயிர்கள், அஞ்சினர் அவுணர்,
பிளந்தன தேர்கள், புரண்டன பரிகள்,

வீழ்ந்தன கரிகள் , நடுங்கினர் தேவர்,
அழித்துவிட்டான் அவுணர் படையை.

அழித்தான் வேற்றுலகப் படையையும்!
அடைத்தான் வேற்றுலக வாயிலையும்!

திருக்கண்களில் ஊழித் தீ கனலூற
திரும்பிய திசைகள் எங்கும் இருந்த

பிண மலைகள் வெந்து சாம்பலாயின.
நிணமும் காய்ந்து சுவறி விட்டது.

முன்போல் விளங்கின மூவுலகும்
நான்முகன், தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

4 # 13. b. Murugan’s valor.

On hearing the arrival of Soorapadman, Murugan got ready for the war. Vayu the charioteer, brought the chariot Manovegam and Murugan got into it.

He was armed with all kinds of weapons including mazhu (axe), kulisam ( vajraayutham), soolam (trident), vel ( spear), ezhu (a battle weapon), vil (bow), kanai (arrow), parisai (shield), urulai (discus), thadi (dandam) and the sword.

The hundred thousand and eight warriors and two thousand units of demons marched along with Murugan’s chariot.

The demons faced a setback and took to their heels. Veeravabaahu also became very tired. He entire army of the asuras surrounded Murugan and fought with him vigorously.

Murugan twanged his bow and all living things trembled in fear. He destroyed the entire army of the asura in no time. He destroyed the army which had come from the other worlds. He sealed the door connecting the different worlds.

The dead bodies filled the entire earth. Murugan stared with his fiery eyes and they got burned to ashes. The blood got dried up and the whole world became clean and healthy to live in. Brahman and the other Deva were very pleased with Murugan’s valor.

4 # 13. c. முருகனும், சூரனும்.

முருகனின் திருவிளையாடல்களைக் கண்டும்
சிறுவனுடன் போர் விழைந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

“சிவன் தந்த மேன்மை பெற்றவன் நான்!
நமன் கை வசப்படவே மாட்டேன் நான்!

தேவர்களும் அஞ்சுவர் போர் புரிவதற்கு!
தோற்றவர் என் எதிரே என்றுமே நில்லார்.”

படைகள் கலந்தன இரு பெரும் கடலென!
போர் தொடங்கியது அப் படைகளிடையே.

திடமான சூரன் வில் இரு துண்டானது
விடமுண்ட நாதன் தந்த வாள்வீச்சால்.

மார்பில் அடிபட்டு விழுந்தான் வீரவாகு!
சூரபத்மன் அவனை விண்ணில் எறிந்தான்.

முருகன் அறுத்தான் சூரனின் கொடியை.
முருகன் தேரில் இல்லை ஒரு கொடி.

கொடியானான் அக்கினி முருகன் தேரில்.
கூவினான் அண்டம் ஒலிக்கச் சேவலாகி.

விண்ணிற் செலுத்தினான் சூரன் தன் தேரை.
விண்ணிற் செலுத்தினான் முருகன் தேரை.

சூரனின் தேரை அழித்தான் முருகன்;
சூரன் ஏறினான் தன் இந்திரஞாலத்தில்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

4 # 13. c. Muruganum, Sooranum.​

Veerabaahu faced Soorapadman. “I have been blessed by Siva himself. No one could kill me. Devas fear to fight with me. Those who got defeated will not stand in my presence." Soorapadman boasted to Veerabaahu.

The war began. Soorapadman’s bow was broken by Veerabaahu using his sword given by Siva. Soorapadman hit Veerabaahu on his chest and kicked him into the sky.

Murugan cut off the flag from Sooran’s chariot. There was no flag on Murugan’s chariot. Agni became a cock, sat on the Chariot of murugan and crowed loudly.

Soorapadman rose in the sky with his chariot. Murugan also rose in the sky with his chariot. Murugan destroyed Sooran’s chariot. Immediately Sooran climbed into his chariot Indragnaalam

4 # 13.d. ஆழிப்படை.

அண்டங்கள் இடையே செல்லும் வாயிலை
அடைத்திருந்தான் முருகன் கணைகளால்.

மூடி இருந்த கதவுகளைத் திறக்கவும்
தடைபட்டு நின்ற அவுணர்படை குவிந்தது.

அவுண மள்ளரைச் சினந்த முருகனின்
அருள்விழிகள் தீயினைப் பொழியலாயின.

மழு, சூலம், உருளைப்படை உதவியால்
முழுவதும் அழித்துவிட்டான் அவுணரை.

ஆழிப் படையை வழிபாடு செய்தபின்
ஆறுமுகன் மேல் விடுத்தான் சூரன்.

அனைவரும் அஞ்சும்படி வந்த ஆழி
அன்புடன் சேர்ந்தது முருகன் கையை.

கணக்கற்ற உருவங்கள் எடுத்துக்
கணை மழை பொழிந்தான் சூரன்.

அறிவுக் கணையைச் செலுத்தி முருகன்
அறிவை மயக்கிய மாயையைப் போக்க,

தனித்துத் தளர்வுடன் நின்ற சூரனை
இனிக்கும் மனத்துடன் கண்டனர் தேவர்.

தேருடன் மறைந்து போனான் சூரன்.
வேறு உலகம் சென்று அறைகூவினான்.

முருகனும் சென்றான் அவன் பின்னே!
முருகனுடன் போர் செய்து மறைந்தான்.

வேறு வேறு உலகங்களுக்குச் செல்லும்
சூரனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தான் முருகன்.

அண்டங்கள் எங்கும் அலைந்து திரிந்தபின்
அடைந்தான் சூரபத்மன் வீரமகேந்திரபுரி.
