A poem a day to keep all agonies away!

2 (# 32b). மாலின் சூழ்ச்சி.

மயக்கும் மோகினி இனிக்கப் பேசினாள்;
தயக்கம் இன்றிக் காதல் வலை வீசினாள்.

"அமுதம் உள்ளது இதோ பொற்குடத்தில்!
அமுதனைய நானும் உள்ளேன் உம் முன்பு!

விரும்பும் பொருளைத் தேர்வு செய்யுங்கள்;
விரும்பியதை அடைந்து இன்புறுவீர்கள்."

"எமக்கு வேண்டியது அழகி நீயே!"- அசுரர்;
"எமக்கு வேண்டியது அமுதம் இதுவே!"- சுரர்;

அமுதத்தை அடைவதற்குத் தேவர்கள்!
அழகியை அணைப்பதற்கு அசுரர்கள்.

மோகினியைத் தழுவ முயன்றவர்கள்
மோஹத்தால் தமக்குள் போரிட்டனர்.

ஒருவரை ஒருவர் அடித்துக் கொண்டனர்.
ஒருவரை ஒருவர் காயப் படுத்தினர்.

அவுணர்களில் இருவர் ஏமாறவில்லை.
அவர்கள் விரும்பியதும் இனிய அமுதமே!

கள்ளத் தேவர் வடிவம் எடுத்துக் கொண்டு
மெள்ளக் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து விட்டார்கள்.

பங்கிட்டார் அமுதத்தைத் நெடிய திருமால்;
பருகினர் அமுதத்தை விரைந்து இருவரும்.

கூரிய மதியால் இனம் கண்டுகொண்ட
சூரிய சந்திரர்கள் திடுக்கிட்டு நின்றனர்.

மெள்ளக் குறிப்பினால் திருமாலுக்குக்
கள்ளத் தேவர்களை ஜாடை காட்டிட,

சினந்த திருமால் அகப்பையால் அடிக்க
தனித்துத் துண்டாயின இருவர் தலைகளும்.

அழியவில்லை அமுதம் உண்ட தலைகள்!
அழிந்து பட்டன இருவர் உடல்களும்!

சிவனை நோக்கித் தவம் செய்தனர்,
சிறந்த கோள்களாக மாறிவிட்டனர்.

கோளுரைத்த சூரிய சந்திரர்களைக்
கோள் வடிவத்தில் மறைக்கலாயினர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
2 (# 32 b). Vishnu's trick.

The dazzling damsel spoke very sweetly. "You have nectar in the gold pot. You have me in front of you. Choose whatever you want and you can enjoy that.

The asuras said in unison," We want you beautiful woman!

The suras said," We want nothing but the nectar"

The asuras tried to embrace the Mohini and started fighting among themselves, hitting and hurting one another.

Two asuras did not fall for Vishnu's trick. They wanted nothing but the nectar. So they transformed themselves in to devas and mingled with the other devas.

Vishnu gave the nectar to all the devas. The asuras disguised as devas drank the nectar in a great hurry. The Sun and the Moon knew that they were the disguised asuras and conveyed it to Vishnu through signs.

Vishnu hit the two asuras on their heads with a ladle and their heads came apart. Since they had tasted the nectar, their heads did not perish but their bodies perished.

They did penance to Siva and became two grahas called Rahu and Ketu. They try to hide and cover the sun and the moon causing the solar and lunar eclipses regularly.

2 (# 32c). ஹரியும், ஹரனும்.

லோகத்தை மயக்கிய திருமாலின் அழகிய
மோகினி அவதாரத்தைக் காண விழைந்த,

ஈசனுக்குக் காட்சி தந்தார் திருமால்
ஆசையை வளர்க்கும் மோகினியாக.

காம வயப் பட்ட சிவன் கையைப் பற்ற,
காம விகாரத்தை பெருக்க மோகினி ஓட,

நாவலந்தீவினில் தேவனும், தேவியும்
சால மரத்தின் கீழ் கூடி ஒன்றாயினர்.

ஒன்றி அவர்கள் கூடிய காலத்தில்
கண்டகியாயிற்று கான்றுமிழ்ந்த நீர்.

பொன் வண்ண வஜ்ரதந்திப் புழுக்கள்
தோன்றின ஆழிக்குறியுடன் நதியில்.

கூடுகளைச் செய்தன ஆற்று மண்ணால்.
கூடுகளில் வாழ்ந்து பின்னர் மடிந்தன.

கூடுகளிலும் தோன்றின ஆழிக் குறிகள்.
கூடுகள் ஒதுங்கின ஆற்றின் கரையில்.

ஆழிக் குறிகளை இனம் கண்டு பிரித்து
ஆழியோனை, ஈசனை வழிபடலாயினர்.

2 (# 32c). Hari and Haran.

Siva wanted to see the Mohini avatar of Vishnu. Vishnu appeared again as Mohini. Siva fell love with the beautiful woman and caught hold of her hand.

She ran away with Siva in hot pursuit. Their union took place in the Jambu dweep under the giant Saala tree. Their union brought into existence the river Kandagi.

There were vajradanthi worms in the river water which had the designs of the chakram.They built nests with the river mud and those designs formed on the shells also.

When the worms died, the empty shells were deposited on the river banks. The people could classify them depending on their designs and patterns and used them to worship Siva as well Vishnu.
 
2 (# 32d). ஐயனார்.

ஹரியும் ஹரனும் ஒன்று கூடிய போது
கரிய உடலும், சிவந்த சடையும் கொண்டு,

கையில் செண்டைத் தாங்கி இருக்கும்
ஐயன் ஒருவன் வந்து அவதரித்தான்.

மேன்மைகள் பல அளித்தார் சிவன்;
வன்மைகள் பல ஈந்தார் அவனுக்கு.

உருத்திரர்களில் ஒருவனாக்கினார் .
உலகம் ஒன்றும் கிடைத்தது அவனுக்கு.

தேவர், முனிவர் வணங்கும் பெருமையை
தேவாதி தேவன் அவனுக்கு அளித்தார்.

"ஊறு யாதும் உனக்கு நேராமல் காத்து
உறுதுணையாக நிற்பான் ஐயனார்."

வெள்ளை யானை வேந்தன் பணிவுடன்
உள்ளத்தில் துதித்தான் ஐயனாரை.

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் கண் முன்னே
அனைத்துச் சிறப்புடன் அதே ஐயனார்.

வெள்ளை யானயின் மீது அமர்ந்து
கொள்ளை அழகியர் தேவியருடன்,

திருக்கயிலை தான் செல்ல இருப்பதையும்,
திரும்பி வரும்வரை பாதுகாப்புக் கோரியும்,

இந்திரன் தந்த வேண்டுகோளை ஏற்றார்;
இந்திராணிக்குக் காவலர் மகாகாளர்.

2 (# 32 d). Ayyanaar.

When the union of Siva and Mohini took place, a valorous son was born to them. He was dark in hue and had red hair. He carried a whip in his hand.

Siva blessed him with many special honors and powers. He was made into one of the Rudras. He was given his own separate world. Rushis and devas worshiped Ayyanaar.

"This Ayyanaar will take care of you during my absence", Indra assured his queen Indraani.

He then meditated on Ayyanaar who appeared in front of him almost immediately. He was seated on a white elephant with his lovely wives.

Indra explained to him the necessity of his travel to Kailash and requested Ayyanaar to take care of his queen during his absence.

Ayyanaar agreed readily and made Mahaakaalar as the personal body guard of Indra's queen Indraani.
 
2 # 33. தேவர்கள் கயிலை ஏகுதல்.

இந்திரன் அளித்தான் ஓர் உறுதி மொழி;
இந்திராணி இனி அய்யனார் பொறுப்பு.

தேவர்களுடன் சென்றான் திருக்கயிலை,
தேவாதி தேவனை தரிசித்து விண்ணப்பிக்க.

நந்தி தேவன் வினவினான் இந்திரனிடம்,
"வந்த செய்தி என்ன கூறுவீர் நீர்!"என்று.

"கயிலை நாதனைக் காண வந்துள்ளோம்.
ஐயனை அன்றி யாரோ காக்க வல்லவர்?

மெய் வருத்தி இழிதொழில் புரிகின்றோம்!
மெய்யன்பர்களாகிய தேவர்கள் நாங்கள்"

"மெய்யறிவு போதிக்கின்றார் நால்வருக்கு!
ஐயனைக் காண அனுமதி கிடைக்காது!"

"பொன்னுலகில் வாழ்ந்து வந்த நாங்கள்
இன்று செய்வது என்ன என்று தெரியுமா?

மீன் பிடித்துக் கொடுத்து வருகின்றோம்
ஊன் உண்ணும் அசுரர் குலத்தவர்க்கு.

தீவினைப் பயனைத் தூய்க்கின்றோம் யாம்!
தேவனை இகழ்ந்த தக்கனை கௌரவித்ததால்!

முனிவர்கள் மெய்யறிவு பெறும்வரையில்
அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும் இங்கு தங்குவதற்கு.

பெருமானைக் கண்டு உரையாடும் வரையில்
திருக்கயிலையில் தங்க யாம் விழைகின்றோம்!"

2 # 33. Devas go to Kailash.

Indra promised Indraani that she would be safe under the protection of Ayyanaar. The devas left with Indra to Kailash.

Nandhi wanted to know their business in Kailash.

"We have come to meet Lord Siva and tell him our plight. Who else can save us? We have been reduced to the state of menial workers by Soorapadman."

Nandhi replied, "Siva is teaching the four muni kumaaras Sanakan and his brothers. You can't meet Him now"

"We lived happily in heaven, but now we have to catch fish for Soorapadman and his family. We reap the bad effects of our thoughtless action, in attending the yaaga performed by Dakshan, insulting our lord.

We want to wait here until Lord becomes free. Kindly grant us permission to stay on here, till we can meet the Lord and speak to Him."
 
2 # 34. அஜமுகியும், அயிராணியும்.

சிவனைக் காணச் சென்றான் இந்திரன்,
தவம் செய்து தனி இருந்தாள் அயிராணி.

"விரைந்து கணவன் திரும்ப வேண்டும்!"
கரைந்தாள் கடும் தவத்தில் மூழ்கியபடி.

ஆட்டுதலை அஜமுகி கண்டாள் அவளை!
"மாட்டிக் கொண்டாள் இன்று தனியாக!

இவளை எண்ணி அண்ணன் மெலிகின்றான்.
இவளைப் பரிசாக அளிப்பேன் இன்று!"

நிஜமாகவே ஓர் ஆபத்து வந்து விட்டது!
அஜமுகியைக் கண்டு அஞ்சினாள் அயிராணி.

"திருமகளும் ஒப்பாக மாட்டாள் உனக்கு!
பெருமை படைத்த பேரழகி அயிராணியே!

முனிவர்களின் வேலையே தவம் புரிவது!
இனிக்கும் இளமையை வீணாக்கலாமா?

உன்னை நினைத்து அண்ணன் தவம் செய்ய,
என்ன நினைத்து நீ தவம் செய்கிறாய்?

விண்ணுலகின் அரசன் இந்திரன் என்றால்
அண்டங்களின் அதிபதி என் அண்ணன்.

அழியக் கூடியவன் இந்திரன் என்றால்
அழிவே இல்லாதவன் என் அண்ணன்.

பாழ்செய்து கொள்ளாதே உன் இளமையை;
வாழ்வாய் நெடுங்காலம் சூரனின் மனைவியாக"

2 # 34. AJAMUKHI AND INDRAANI.

Indra had gone to Kailash with the other devas. Indraani spent her time in tapas, praying for the speedy return of Indra.

Ajamikhi saw Indraani all alone. "My brother is doing tapas to win Indraani and she is also doing tapas here. I will present her to my brother as my gift today."

Indraani shivered at the sight of Ajamukhi. Ajamukhi spoke to Indraani.

"you are lovelier than Goddess Lakshmi Devi. Tapas is for the rushis and not for a pretty lady like you. Indra may be the king of heaven but my brother rules over 1008 universes.

Indra will perish one day. My brother is imperishable and invincible. Marry my brother and live a life filled with pleasure and luxuries" .
 
2 # 35. அயிராணியின் மறுப்பு.

கொடும்மொழிகள் காதில் விழுந்ததும்
நடுநடுங்கினாள் பேதை அயிராணி.

"தீய மொழிகள் தீயினும் தீயவை!
வாயிலில் தள்ளும் கொடிய நரகத்தின்!

நாக் கூசாமல் பேசும் உன் கதியை,
நான் கூறி நீ அறிய வேண்டுமோ?

காசிப முனிவரின் மகளான நீயும்
பேசிய மொழிகள் உனக்கு அழகோ?

என் கணவனையன்றி நாடேன் பிறரை!
உன் குலத்துக்கு கோடரி ஆகிவிடாதே!

யாண்டும் எனக்குக் காவல் உண்டு!
மீண்டு சென்றுவிடு மிக விரைவாக!"

கடித்தாள்அஜமுகி தன் உதடுகளை.
புடைத்தாள் தன் இரண்டு கரங்களை!

"சொன்ன சொல் கேளாவிடில் உன்னை
உண்டு விடுவேன் இக்கணமே இங்கு!

அண்ணன் விரும்பிய பெண் என்பதால்
உன்னை உயிரோடு விடுகிறேன் நான்!

வலிய இழுத்துச் செல்வேன் உன்னை!"
மெலிந்த ராணியின் கரம் பற்றினாள்.

"ஐயனரே ஓலம்! என் கடவுளே ஓலம்!
மெய்யர்க்கு மெய்யரே காப்பாற்றும்!"

கண்ணீர் வடியக் கதறினாள் அயிராணி!
எண்ணினாள் தன் காவல் தெய்வத்தை!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
2 # 35. INDRAANI REFUSES.

Indraani trembled like a leaf in a strong wind, on hearing these cruel words.

"Cruel words cast a person in the gates of fiery hell! You will pay heavily for these unkind words spoken to me by you. You are the daughter of a great rushi. Do these words suit your high birth?

I will never live with any one other than my husband Indra! You will destroy your clan by such suggestions. I am under protection. You had better be gone before it is too late ."

Ajamukhi could not bear the thought of a frail fair queen disobeying her. She bit her lips, and wrung her palms in anger. "I will eat you right now and here - had it not been for my brother who madly loves you! I will take you away by force!"

She caught hold of the queen's frail hands. Indraani lamented and called out to her protector and savior with tears streaming down her eyes.

 
2 # 36 a. மஹாகாளர் வருகை.

அண்மையில் மறைந்து நின்றிருந்தார்
அயிராணியின் காவலர் மஹாகாளர்.

அஜமுகி அயிராணியை இழுத்தவுடன்
அதட்டிக்கொண்டு முன்னே வந்தார்.

"எங்கே செல்லுகிறாய் களவாடியபடி?
தாங்கள் அஞ்சவேண்டாம் தாயே!

தங்களைப் பற்றி இழுத்த கரத்தை
இங்கேயே வெட்டுகின்றேன் நான்! "

அயிராணி அச்சம் நீங்கினாள்;
அஜமுகி விழித்துப் பார்த்தாள்.

"என் முன் நில்லார் மும்மூர்த்திகளும்!
என்னை எதிர்க்கத் துணிந்தவன் யார்?"

"அயிராணியை விட்டுவிடு இப்போதே!
செய்த குற்றத்தை மன்னித்துவிடுகிறேன்."

"அஞ்சாது என்னிடம் பேசுகின்றாய்!
தஞ்சம் அயிராணிக்கு அளிக்கின்றாய்!

உன் எஜமானன் யார் என்று கூறுவாய்!"
"என் பெயர் வீரமஹாகாளன் என்பது.

வெள்ளை யானை வீரன், மூவுலகின் சூரன்
அளித்தான் இந்த வேலையை எனக்கு!"

அய்யனாருக்கும், இந்திரனுக்கும் ஒருபோல
ஐயம் இன்றிப் பொருந்தியது இந்த வர்ணனை.

2 # 36 a. The arrival of MahaaKaalar.

Mahaakaalar was hiding nearby. When Ajamukhi pulled Indraani's hand, he came forward to protect her.

"Where do you take her?" he demanded Ajamukhi.

He told Indraani,"Please don't be afraid. I will chop off the hand that caught hold of your hand"

Indraani felt reassured and Ajamukhi very troubled.
"The trimoorthis are afraid to stand in my presence. Who is this bold one then?"

"Let Indraani go and I will pardon your crime" Mahaakaalar told Ajamukhi.

"You speak very bravely. You protect Indraani. Tell me now who are you who is your master?'.

"I am Mahaakaalar and my master is the one who rides on a white elephant."

This description suited both Indra and Aiyyanaar and so Ajamukhi got confused.
 
2 # 36b. மாதர் இருவர்.

தேவர்கோனின் ஏவலாளனா இவன்?
ஏவினாள் முத்தலைச் சூலத்தை அஜமுகி.

இரு துண்டாகச் சூலம் உடையும்படி
ஒரே வீச்சில் வீழ்த்தினார் மஹாகாளர்.

அருகில் இருந்த துன்முகியின் கையில்
அயிராணியை அளித்தாள் அஜமுகி.

துன்முகியின் சூலத்தைத் தான் வாங்கி
வன்மத்துடன் பாய்ச்சினாள் அஜமுகி.

அதுவும் இரண்டு துண்டாகி வீழ்ந்தது
மஹா காளரின் ஒரு வாள் வீச்சினால்.

மலையைப் பறித்து எறிந்தாள் துன்முகி.
மலை தூள் தூளானது வாள் நுனியில்.

"சூரபத்மனின் வீரத் தோள்களில்
ஆரமாவாள் இனிமேல் அயிராணி.

தாரகன் படைவீரர் வெல்வர் உன்னை!
தாமதம் எதற்கு நானே கொல்வேன்!

வீணாக இறவாதே ஓடிப்போ! - கண்
காணாத இடத்துக்கு விரைந்து உடனே!"

"பெண் என்று எண்ணிக் கொல்லவில்லை!
வீண் வம்புகள் செய்யாமல் விலகிவிடு!"

அயிராணியுடன் அஜமுகி, துன்முகியர்
அங்கிருந்து செல்வதற்கு விரையவே,

மின்னலெனப் பாய்ந்தார் மஹாகாளர்;
பின்னாத கூந்தலைப் பற்றினார் கையால்.

இடையில் இருந்த உடை வாட்படையால்
உடன் துண்டித்தார் அவள் கரத்தை.

துன்முகியின் கரத்தையும் துண்டித்து
மண்மீது புரட்டினார் மாதரை உதைத்து.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
2 # 36b. Ajamukhi and Durmukhi.

"So he is the servant of Indra". Ajamukhi threw her trident at Mahaakaalar. He cut it into two with his sword.

Ajamukhi took the soolam from Durmukhi and threw it at Mahaakaalar. It was also cut into two by him.

Durmukhi threw a mountain. He shattered it with the tip of his sword.

"Indrani's hand will decorate Soorapadman like a garland worn around his neck by him". The two asura women grabbed Indraani and tried to go away from there.

Mahaakaalar moved in fast. He held Ajamukhi by her hair and chopped off her hand. He did likewise to Durmukhi. He pushed them on the ground and kicked them hard.
 
2 # 37. அஜமுகி வாட்டம்.

குருதி ஆறாகப் பெருகியது கையில்
வருந்திப் புலம்பினர் மாதர் இருவரும்;

கைகளை அறைந்து, நிலத்தில் புரண்டு,
கால்களை உதைத்து, உடல்தேய உருண்டு,

வாயினால் தீயைக் கக்கிக் கலுழ்ந்தனர்
"வாராத இழிவு இன்று வந்து விட்டதே!"

சினந்தாள் உலகையே அழிக்க விரும்பி.
நைந்தாள் துன்பத்தில் அழுது புலம்பி.

அஜமுகி போன்றே அரற்றினாள் துர்முகி.
"அண்ணனிடம் சென்று சொல்வோம் வா!"

"அண்டங்கள் அனைத்தையும் ஆளும் என்
அண்ணன் செல்வாக்கை விரைவில் அறிவாய்.

எங்கு ஒளிந்தாலும் சிறைசெய்வேன்!
தங்கை அல்லவா நான் அசுர அரசனின்?"

2 # 37. Ajamukhi depressed.

Blood started flowing from the cut hands. The pain was too much to bear.

Ajamukhi beat her palms on the ground; she rolled on the ground; she kicked her legs in pain; she spat fire!

She lamented,"Such a shame for me! It has never happened before!"

Durmukhi suffered similarly and told Ajamukhi,
"Let us go and report this to King Soorapadman"

Ajamuki threatened Mahaa kaalar and Indraani,

"My bother is the ruler of the universe. I will have you arrested wherever you may try to hide. I am the sister of the asura king!"
 
2 # 38. இந்திரன் திரும்புதல்.

நடந்தவற்றைக் கண்டார் நாரதர்.
இடபவாகனனின் கயிலை அடைந்தார்.

இறைவனைத் தரிசிக்கக் காத்திருந்த
இந்திரனிடம் கூறினார் விவரங்களை.

துயருற்ற இந்திராணியை எண்ணித்
துயருற்றான் மனம் நொந்த இந்திரன்.

நந்தி தேவரைக் கண்டு வணங்கினான்.
"நான் திரும்புகின்றேன் நிலவுலகு!

இனிய இறை அருளைப் பெறும் காலம்
கனியவில்லை போலும் இன்னமும்.

நிலவுலகு எய்தியபின் புதிய தவம்
நிலவணிப் பிரானை நோக்கிப் புரிவேன்."

நந்திதேவன் விடை தந்தான் உடனே.
இந்திராணியிடம் விரைந்தான் இந்திரன்.

சீகாழி சென்றடைந்தான் இந்திரன்.
வீரமஹாகாளருக்கு விடை கொடுத்தான்.

அயிராணிக்கு ஆறுதல் கூறினான்.
துயர் துடைத்து பயம் நீக்கினான்.

"சிறைப் பிடிப்பேன்" என்று சூளுரைத்த
அரக்கியின் அச்சுறுத்தல் ஒருபுறம்.

பொன் மேருமலை சென்றனர் மீண்டும்.
பொன்னார் மேனியனை நோக்கித் தவம்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

2 # 38. Indra returns.

Narada watched the happenings. He rushed to Kailash and reported the matter to Indra.

Indra became very upset and started worrying about the safety of his dear wife. He decided to return to earth.

He took leave of Nandhi Devan and said,"The time is not yet ripe to get the grace of Lord Siva. I shall return to the earth and start a fresh penance seeking Lord Siva's grace."

He hurried to Seekaazi. He bade farewell to Mahaa kaalar. He consoled Indraani. The threat by Ajamukhi made him decide to return to mount Meru.

He left for mount Meru with the other devas and they started a fresh penance seeking the grace of Lord Siva.

2 # 39. சூரபத்மனின் சிறப்புக்கள்.

அசுர மாதர்கள் சென்றடைந்தனர்
அசுர அரசனின் அத்தாணிமண்டபம்.

அரியணையில் இருந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.
பெரிய வெண்கொற்றக் குடைகளின் கீழ்.

சிங்கமுகன், தாரகன் இருந்தனர் இருபுறம்;
மங்கையர், மக்கள் சூழ்ந்து இருந்தனர்.

சாமரங்கள் அசைந்து வீசின காற்றை.
தேவமகளிர் இயற்றினார் நாட்டியம்.

பஞ்சாங்கம் சொல்ல வந்த பிரமன்
பக்கவாட்டில் ஒதுங்கி அமர்ந்தான்.

வாழ்த்துரை வழங்கினர் முனிவர்கள்.
வாழும் மங்கையர் சுற்றினர் ஆரத்தி.

மங்கலம் பாடினார் கின்னரர், சித்தர்;
பொங்கி வழிந்தன செல்வம், மகிழ்ச்சி.

ஆயிரம் கோடி பொற்றூண் மண்டபம்,
ஓவியங்கள், கண்ணாடிகள் நிறைந்தது.

ஆயிரம் யோசனைகள் பரந்த மண்டபம்!

2 # 39. The glory of Soorapadman.

The two asura women reached the durbar of Soorapadman. He was seated on his throne under the beautiful, royal, white umbrellas.

Singamukhan and Taarakan were seated on his two sides. His wives and sons were seated around him. Gentle air was blown by the saamaram. The apsaras danced and kinnaras and siddhas sang.

Brahma had arrived to read the day's panchaangam. The rushis blessed Soorapadman. Auspicious women did the aarathi. The whole place overflowed with wealth and happiness.

The mandapam had a thousand crore gold pillars and sprawled over an area of a thousand yojana. Paintings and mirrors decorated the mandapam.

Soorapadman's throne was made of the purest gold and studded with priceless gem stones.

2 # 40. நகரில் நுழைதல்.

துன்முகியுடன் நுழைந்தாள் அஜமுகி
அண்ணன் தலைநகர் மகேந்திரபுரியில்;

"இச் செயலைச் செய்தவர் யார்? யார்?"
அச்சத்துடன் வினவினர் அவுணர்கள்.

பலவகை வேலைகளையும் விட்டு விட்டு
கவலையுடன் அவர்களைச் சூழ்ந்தனர்.

"இச்செயலைச் செய்தது சிவபெருமானா?"
"இச்செயலைச் செய்தவள் துர்கையோ?"

"அய்யனாரின் கை வேலைகளில் ஒன்றா?"
"ஆனைமுகனின் குறும்புகளில் ஒன்றா?"

"மாலின் செயலா இது என்று கூறுவாய்!"
"முனிவரின் சாபமா இது சொல்லுவாய்!"

"இருவரும் சண்டை இட்டுக் கொண்டனரோ?"
"ஒருவர் கையை ஒருவர் வெட்டினார்களோ ?"

"அஜமுகியின் கையை வெட்டியது யார்?"
அத்தாணி மண்டபத்தை அடைந்தனர் அவர்கள்.

2 # 40. Entering the capital.

Ajamukhi and Durmukhi entered the capital city Veera Mahendra Puram of Soorapadman. The asuras were shocked to see the plight of the two women.

They dropped whatever they were doing at that time and surrounded the two. They threw numerous questions at the women.

"Who did this to you two?"

"Was this done by Siva himself?"

"Was this done by Durga?'

"Was this done by Ayyanaar or Ainkaran?"

"Was this done by Vishnu?"

"Were you cursed by the ruhis?"

"May be they just fought each other!"

"May be they cut off each other's hand?"

"Who really did this to Ajamukhi?"

They had reached the durbar of the Soorapadman by then.
