2 (# 17b). THE WEDDINGS.
Soorapadman married Viswakarma's daughter Padma komalai.
He took many other beautiful damsels as his lovers.

Singa mukan married Naman's daughter Vibuthai.
Taarakan married Nruthi's daughter Sowri.

After the weddings they all went back to their cities.
Soorapadman sent his army to the cities, and other places to maintain his rule.

To the eight cities placed at the eight directions of his Veera mahendra puram, he sent the army chiefs with the faces of an elephant, a horse, a yali, a bear, a tiger, a boar, a lion and a wild cow.

Durgunan, Dharmagopan, Durmukhan, Sankhabaalan, Vakrabalan, and Mahishan were his ministers.

Overlapping activities, Temple puja, Visit to the eye clinic etc made it impossible for me to prepare the posts on time.

A deviation from the routine is supposed to add more interest to the activities when they are resumed - like a disturbed beauty nap or an interrupted lunch / dinner

2 ( # 18 ). தேவர்களை ஏவுதல்.

முனிவரும், தேவரும் சூரன் ஆணைகளை
இனிதே புரிந்து திரிந்து இருந்தனர்;

"தேடிக் கடல் மீன்களைக் கொண்டு தருக!
தேவர்களிடம் ஆணை இட்டான் சூரபத்மன்;

மனம் நடுங்கி நாணம் அடைந்த போதிலும்,
தினம் கயல் கொண்டுவர உடன்பட்டனர்.

வருணனிடம் சொன்னான் தேவர்கோன்,
"தருவாய் கடல் மீன்களைப் பிடித்து!"

கடலில் உள்ள மீன்களை எல்லாம்
கரையில் குவித்தான் வருண தேவன்;

கயல்களைத் தூக்க எண்ணிய தேவர்கள்
கயல்களைக் கட்டினார்கள் பாம்புகளால்.

மீன் கட்டுக்களைச் சுமந்த தேவர்களை
மீண்டும் எள்ளி நகையாடினர் அவுணர்.

கயவன் சூரன் ஆணையிட்டான் மீண்டும்,
கயர்ப் பொதியை தினமும் கொண்டு தருக!"

2 (#18). Commanding the devas.

The rushis and devas obeyed all the commands of Soorapadman to the letter.

One day Soorapadman ordered Indra to fetch the fish from the sea. The devas were ashamed of this task but had no other choice than to obey this order.

Indra asked Varuna to pile up the fish on the bank. Varuna piled up the fish on the bank. The devas made the fish into bundles by tying them up with the snakes.

When the asuras saw the devas carrying the bundles of fish, they had a hearty laugh. Soorapadman commanded them to bring fish everyday.

2 (#19a ). பானுகோபன்.

சூரபத்மன் மனைவி பதுமகோமளை - ஒரு
வீர மகனை ஈன்று புறம் தந்தாள்.

சுற்றத்தினருக்குச் சிறப்புகள் பல செய்து,
பெற்ற மகனைக் கொண்டாடினான் அவன்.

தொட்டிலில் உறங்கிய வீரமகனைத்
தொட்டுவிட்டன கதிரவன் கதிர்கள்!

சினந்த குழந்தை சீறிப் பாய்ந்தது,
வினதையின் மகன் போல விண்ணில்!

கதிரவனைக் கையால் பற்றிக் கொணர்ந்து
கட்டிப் போட்டது தொட்டில் காலில்!

கதிரவன் இல்லாத உலகின் இயக்கம்
கதி கலங்கி போய்த் தடுமாறிவிட்டது.

இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் வந்து கெஞ்சினார்கள்
"சொந்தமகன் கதிரவனை விடுவிக்க வேண்டும்!"


"ஞாயிறு சிறைப்பட்ட செய்தி அறியேன்!
ஞாயிறு இழைத்த பிழைகளைக் கூறுங்கள்!"

நடந்தவற்றை நவின்றனர் நாணத்துடன்
நான்முகன், தேவர்கள் சூரபத்மனுக்கு.

"இனிய மொழி பேசி அவனை மகிழ்வித்து
இனிக் கதிரவனை விடுதலை செய்யுங்கள்!"

கதிரவன் படைக்கலம் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு
கதிரவன் தளைகளைத் தளர்த்தினான் மகன்.

மோகப் படையினையும் அளித்தார் நான்முகன்.
கோபப்பட்ட மகன் பெயர் ஆயிற்று பானுகோபன்.

2 (# 19a). BHAANU KOBAN.

Padumakomalai, Soorapadman's wife, gave birth to a valorous son in due course. Soorapadman celebrated the arrival of a worthy son in a befitting manner.

One day while the baby was sleeping in his cradle, the rays of the Sun fell on him. Enraged by this, the child leaped into the sky, caught hold of the Sun and tied him up to one of the legs of his cradle.

With the Sun gone, the life on earth was completely thrown out of gear. The devas and gods went to Soorapadman and prayed for the release of the Sun.

Soorapadman told them to talk sweet words to his son and secure the release of his prisoner - the Sun. The child took away the Sun God's asthram and released his bondage. Brahma presented the child with his Moha Asthram.

Since the baby got angry with the Bhanu the Sun, he was named Bhaanu koban.

2 (# 19 b). பிற மகன்கள்.

சூரபத்மனின் மனைவியர் ஈன்றனர்
வீரமகன்கள் மேலும் பற்பலரை.

பானுகோபனுக்குப் பல இளவல்கள்;
அக்கினி முகன், இரணியன், வஜ்ஜிரவாகு.

ஆயிரக் கணக்கான அழகியரிடம் - மூன்று
ஆயிரம் மகன்கள் மேலும் தோன்றினர்.

சிங்கமுகனின் பட்டத்துராணி விபுதை
மங்காத வலிவுடைய சூரனை ஈன்றாள்.

பிற மனைவியர் ஈன்றனர் மேலும்
குறைவில்லாத நூறு வீர மகன்களை.

தாரகன் பட்டது ராணி செளரிதேவி
ஓர்மகன் அசுரேந்திரனைப் பெற்றாள்.

சேற்றில் பிறந்த செந்தாமரைபோல,
சிப்பியில் விளைந்த முத்துப்போல,

முள்ளில் மலர்ந்த மலரைப்போல,
கள்ளம், கபடு, சூது, வாது நிறைந்த

அவுணர் இடையே பிறந்தும், அவன்
அவர்களைப் போல இருக்கவில்லை.

2 (# 19 B). THE OTHER SONS.

Soorapadman had many more sons from his many wives. His queen gave him three more sons Agni mukhan, Hiranyan and Vajrabaahu. His other wives gave him three thousand sons.

Singa mukhan's queen Vibuthai delivered a valorous son also named Sooran. His other wives gave him one hundred strong sons.

Thaarakan's queen gave him a son named as Asurendran. He was like a lovely lotus flower blooming in the slush, a priceless pearl produced by the gnarled oyster, a pretty flower borne by a thorny plant.

He was born among the tricky, cunning and unscrupulous asuras but possessed all the noble qualities.

2 (# 20 a ). இரு சகோதரர்கள்.

மூவரின் தங்கையான அஜமுகியோ
மூர்க்கத்தனமாகத் திரிந்து வந்தாள்.

வரன் முறை இல்லாது வாழ்ந்து வந்தாள்;
பிறன் மனைவியரைத் துன்புறுத்தினாள்.

தேவர் மனைவியரைத் தமையன்கள்
தேவைகளுக்கு ஆட்படுத்தி வந்தாள்.

மிக்க வலிமை படைத்தவர்களான - இரு
மக்கட் பேற்றை விழைந்தாள் அஜமுகி.

துர்வாசரைக் கூடிப் பிள்ளைகள் பெறும்
துர்எண்ணத்தோடு சென்றாள் அவரிடம்.

விலகிச் செல்லும் முனிவரை விடாமல்
வலிந்து தழுவி மகன்களைப் பெற்றாள்.

வில்வலன், வாதாபி என்ற மகன்களிடம்,
"வல்லமை பெறுங்கள் தவத்தால்!" என்றாள்.

மைந்தர் வணங்கினார் தந்தை துர்வாசரை,
தந்தையின் தவத்தைத் தருமாறு கேட்டனர்.

மறுத்த முனிவரை ஒறுக்க எழுந்தவர்களை
உரத்த குரலில் சாபம் இட்டார் முனிவர்,

"முனிவர்களுக்குத் துன்பம் இழைத்துப் பின்
முனிவராலேயே மாண்டு போவீர்கள்!" என.

வேறு ஒரு காட்டைச் சென்று அடைந்தனர்.
வேறு ஒரு கருத்தின்றித் தவம் செய்தனர்.

முனிவர்களைக் கொலை புரிவது ஒன்றே
இனி அவர்களின் வாழ்வின் குறிக்கோள்.

நெடுங்காலம் தீ நடுவில் நின்றபடிக்
கடும் தவம் செய்து வந்த போதிலும்

நான்முகன் இரங்கி வரவும் இல்லை
வேண்டிய வரங்கள் தரவும் இல்லை.

2 (# 20a). THE TWO BROTHERS.

Ajamukhi - the younger sister of the three asuras - led a very loose life. She had no moral values nor did she allow the other women remain moral. She forced the wives of the devas the become the lovers of her three brothers.

Later she wanted strong sons for herself. She planned to have her sons sired by Durvasa rushi. He did not agree to her wish. Still she forced herself on him and got two sons named Vilavalan and Vaathaapi.

She told her sons, "Become great by the power of penance". The two sons paid respect to their father Durvaasa rushi and demanded that he should give to them the power of his tapas.

He refused. Then he cursed them, "You will continue to trouble the rushis and will meet your end in the hands of one of them!"

They went to another forest and started doing penance standing in fire. Their only aim in life was to murder all the rushis they came across.

But Brahma did not take pity on them and did not appear before them.

2 ( # 20b ). வில்வலனும், வாதாபியும்.

வில்வலன் செய்தான் அதற்குப் பின்னர்,
சொல்லரிய வேள்வி வாதாபியைக் கொன்று!

வாளால் கிழித்துக் குருதியைச் சொரிந்து
தாளாத கொடும் வேள்வியைச் செய்தான்.

நான்முகன் வந்தான் மனம் இரங்கி,
வேண்டும் வரங்கள் எல்லாம் தந்தான்.

"எத்தனை முறை கொல்லப்பட்டாலும்,
எத்தனை துண்டாக வெட்டப்பட்டாலும்,

மீண்டும் முழு உடல் அமையப் பெற்று
மீண்டும் உயிர் பெற வேண்டும் வாதாபி."

கோரிய ஒரு வரத்தைப் பெற்றுவிட்டனர்.
சீரிய ஒரு திட்டம் தயாராகக் கைவசம்!

மாமன் சூரபத்மனிடம் சென்று விளக்கி,
மார் தட்டிக் கொண்டனர் இவர்களும்.

குடக நாட்டின் காட்டை அடைந்தனர்,
திடமாக முனிவரைக் கொல்லலாயினர்.

நான்கு பாதைகள் கூடும் இடத்தில்
நல்ல வசதிகளுடன் பெரிய இருப்பிடம்;

நடந்து செல்லும் முனிவரைப் பணிந்து
நல்லதொரு விருந்துக்கு அழைப்பார்கள்.

ஆட்டு முகம் கொண்ட வாதாபியை - ஓர்
ஆடாக்கிச் சமைப்பான் வில்வலன்,

உணவு உண்டவரின் வயிற்றைக் கீறிப்
பிணமாக்கி வெளிவருவான் வாதாபி.

இறந்த முனிவரின் உடலை இருவரும்
விருந்தாக அருந்தி அகம் மகிழ்வர்.

வெகுநாள் தொடர்ந்தது இந்த நாடகம்,
வெகுளி முனிவர்கள் தொடர்ந்து பலி!

2 (#20 b). VILVALAN AND VAATHAAPI.

Vilvalan performed a terrible yaagam by cutting the body of Vaataapi with a sword and offering his blood and parts of his body in the fire.

Brahma took pity and appeared before them. They asked for a boon,

"Even when cut into several pieces and killed several times, Vaataapi must regain his original shape and come back alive!"

Brahma granted this rare boon.

The two brothers went to Soorapadman and boasted about their rare boon. They had made a fool-proof plan to get rid of the rushis without creating any suspicion.

They built a spacious house at the junction of four roads. Whenever any rushi would walk by, they would prostrate to him and invite him to take food in their place.

Vaataapi would be cut and cooked by Vilvalan. After the rushi had eaten, Vilvalan would call out the name of Vaataapi.

Vaataapi would resume his original form, and emerge after tearing open the stomach of the rishi. Then the two brothers would feed on the rushi's body. This went on for a very long time and several rushis got killed in this manner.

2 (#21 a). இந்திரன் மறைந்துறைதல்.

மருகர்கள் ரிஷிகளை ருசித்துப் புசிக்க,
மாமனோ அண்டங்களை ஆண்டு வந்தான்.

இந்திர ஞாலத்தில் ஏறிச் சுற்றி வந்தான்;
இங்கு அங்கு என்னாது எங்கும் சென்றான்.

எங்கே சென்றிருந்தாலும் தவறாமல் மாலை
மங்கும் நேரம் திரும்புவான் தலைநகருக்கு.

இந்திரனைப் பிடித்துத் தொந்தரவு செய்ய,
சொந்தப் படையை அனுப்பினான் அவன்.

அயிராணியைச் சொந்தம் ஆக்குவதற்கு
அவுணப் பெண்கள் ஒன்பது கோடிப்பேர்.

ஒற்றர்கள் மூலம் செய்தியை அறிந்ததும்
காற்றென மறைந்துவிட்டனர் இருவரும்!

மற்ற தேவர்களைத் துன்புறுத்தியும் - கைப்
பற்றமுடியவில்லை இந்திரன், அயிராணியை.

சூரபத்மனின் மோஹம் தலைக்கு ஏறியது.
சூரபத்மனின் சினம் எல்லையை மீறியது.

ஒற்றர்படைகள் அண்டங்கள் எங்கும்
சுற்றிச் சுற்றித் தேடியது அவர்களை.

வைகுந்தம் சென்றிருந்த இந்திரன் மகன்
வேதனயுற்றான் இந்த நிகழ்வுகளால்.

விண்ணுலகை விட்டு மறைந்து ஓடி
மண்ணுலகில் இருந்தனர் பெற்றோர்.

2 ( # 21A). LIVING IN SECRECY.

The nephews were feeding happily on the rushis while their maternal uncle Soorapadman ruled the 1008 universes.

He would get into his chariot and travel everywhere. But he would return to his capital city before nightfall.

He wanted to make Indraani his consort and torment Indra. He sent an army and 90 million asura women to fetch them.

Indra learned the plot through his spy and vanished from Heaven without a trace. The other devas could not tell the whereabouts of Indra and Indraani.

Spies roamed in all the universes under Soorapadman's rule, looking for the escaped couple.

When all these were happening Jayanthan, Indra's son returned from vaikunthan. He was very sad to learn of the plight of his parents who had gone into hiding somewhere on the earth.

2 (#21b). ஜயந்தனும் நாரதரும்.

மயங்கி நின்று துயரக்கடலில் விழுந்த
ஜயந்தனை அணுகினார் தேவரிஷி நாரதர்.

இருக்கை அளித்து வணங்கினான் ஜெயந்தன்,
"இருக்குமிடம் அறிகிலேன் அன்னை தந்தையர்,

இன்னல்கள் நீங்கி யாம் வாழ்வது எப்போது?
அன்னை தந்தையரைக் காண்பது எப்போது?"

"நன்மையும், தீமையும் பிறர் தர வாரா.
நன்மை தீமைகள் நம் வினைப்பயன்களே.

இன்பம் கண்டு மகிழார் பெரியோர்!
துன்பம் கண்டு துவளார் பெரியோர்!

வறியவர் பெரியவர் ஆவதும் உண்டு.
பெரியவர் வறியவர் ஆவதும் உண்டு.

வளர்ந்து தேயும் திங்களின் கலைகள்
வாழ்வில் தோன்றும் மாற்றம் போன்றதே.

நிலையற்றது சுரர்கள் படும் துன்பங்கள்.
நிலையற்றது அசுரர்கள் படும் இன்பங்கள்.

இன்பமும், துன்பமும் உடலுக்கே அன்றி
இன்பமும், துன்பமும் உயிருக்கு அல்ல!

உருவை மறைத்து ஒளிந்திருக்கும் தந்தை
விரைவில் அழிப்பான் அவுணர் கூட்டத்தை.

வருந்தாமல் இருந்து காலம் கனிவதற்கு
விரும்பிக் காத்திருப்பாய் ஜெயந்தா நீ!"

2 ( # 21 b). Jayandan and Narada.

Narada was moved to pity at the sight of Jayandan's suffering. He wanted to console him. Jayandan paid his respect, offered him a seat and spoke.

" I do not know the whereabouts of my dear parents. When will our sufferings come to an end? When will I meet my parents again?"

" The good and the bad in a person's life are not inflicted by anyone other than himself. Our own actions subject us to these consequences. So the wise will not jump in joy nor crumble in sorrow.

Fortune may favor a pauper and make him king. It also make a king into a pauper. The fortune affects a person's life very similar to the waxing and waning of the moon.

Your sorrows will not last for ever, nor the happiness and joy of the asura. The joy and sorrow affect only for the body and not the soul living in it.

I am sure your father is planning a way of getting rid of the asuras soon. Time is factor which can change everything upside down. So wait for the opportune moment without losing courage!"

Narada ended his long speech consoling Jayandan.

2 ( # 21c). தேவேந்த்ரனும், இந்திராணியும்.

நிலவுலகை அடைந்துவிட்ட இந்திரன்
நிலவணிந்த பிரானை வழிபட்டான்.

சீகாழியை அடைந்தான் மனைவியுடன்;
சீரிய பூம்பொழில் ஒன்றினை அமைத்தான்.

மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்தான் தினம் பெருமானை.
கலங்காது காத்திருந்தான் அவன் அருளுக்கு.

ஒற்றர்கள் தேடி வந்தனர் அங்கேயும்.
முற்றிய மூங்கில்களாக வடிவெடுத்து

மறைந்து கொண்டனர் இருவருமே.
இறை அருள் ஒற்றரிடமிருந்து காத்தது.

மழை முகில்களை வெருட்டிய அவுணர்
மழை பொழிவதைத் தடுத்து விட்டனர்.

கருகிக் காய்ந்து சருகாகி விட்டது
கருத்தைக் கவர்ந்த அப்பூம் பொழில்.

மனம் வருந்திய இந்திரன் வேண்டினான்
தினம் வணங்கும் முக்கட் பிரானிடம்.

"வருந்தாதே இந்திரா! பொழில் தழைக்க
வரும் ஆறு ஒன்று விரைவில் இங்கு!"

அருள் வாக்கு ஒலித்தது அசரீரியாக.
பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான் தேவர்கோன்.

2 (# 21c). Indra and Indraani.

Soon after reaching the earth with his wife Indraani, Indra started worshiping lord Siva. He went to Sekaazhi and made a garden of flowering plants. He did puja to Siva with the fresh flowers everyday. He waited patiently for the favorable time.

Soorapadman's spies came there looking for him and his wife. The heavenly couple transformed themselves into two bamboos and deceived the asuras.

The asuraas frightened the rain clouds away and stopped the rain fall there. The lovely flower plant garden soon withered dry.

Indra was very sad and prayed to lord Siva. An asareeri spoke to him, "Do not worry Indra. Very soon a river will start flowing here. Your nandavanam will become as glorious as before"

Indra was happy with the promise made by God.

2 (# 22). விந்திய மலை.

விந்திய மலையிடம் சென்றார் நாரதர்;
வியந்து வாழ்த்திப் போற்றினார் அதை.

விந்திய மலை தொழுதது நாரதரை;
வினயத்துடன் இன்மொழி இயம்பியது.

"மேருமலைக்குத் தருக்கு மிகுந்து விட்டது.
பொருப்பு சிவன்கை வில் ஆகிவிட்டதே!

அன்னை உமை வளர்ந்தாளாம் அதனிடம்;
அனைத்து மலைகளுக்கும் அரசனாம் அது.

கதிரவனை தொடும் உயரம் உள்ளதாம்.
கணக்கற்ற கொடுமுடிகள் கொண்டதாம்.

கயிலை மலை பொருந்தியுள்ளதாம் அங்கு!
பயிலுகிறது தனக்கு ஒப்பார் இல்லை என!"

"மேருவின் பெருமைகள் எனக்கு இல்லையா?
மேருவின் சிறுமைகளையும் நான் அறிவேன்!

மேருவும் ஒரு மலை தான், மால் அல்லவே!
மேருவுக்கு உணர்த்துவேன் என் பெருமையை!"

சத்தியலோகம் வரை வளர்ந்தது விந்தியம்;
நித்தியமாக விண்வழியைத் தடைசெய்தது.

வியப்பின் விளிம்பில் விண்ணவர், மண்ணவர்,
விந்தியம் வளர்ந்த காரணம் விளங்கும் வரையில்.

வளர்ந்த காரணத்தையும், அகத்தியரால் அது
தளர்ந்து போகும் எனவும் அறிந்து மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

2 (# 22). The Vindhya Giri.

Narada approached the Vindhya giri. He praised it sky-high. The giri paid its respect to Narada and spoke sweet words to him.

Narada told Vindhya,

" The mount Meru has become very arrogant since Siva uses it as his bow. Uma Devi grew in its lap. It claims to be the king of all the mountains.

It claims it can touch the Sun. Is has countless sikharaas. Kailash is situated on it. So it says it is unmatched in its greatness."

Vindhya replied,

"I know the greatness as well the meanness of Mount Meru. Meru is only a mountain. It is not a God like Vishnu. I will prove to him my greatness now."

It grew up rapidly and reached Satya lokam. It obstructed the path of the sun, moon and stars.

The devas and manushyas were dumbfound by this sudden spurt of growth. Later when they understood the cause of the growth and how it would be kept in check by sage Asasthya, they felt relieved.

2 (# 23). அகத்திய முனிவர்.

உயர்ந்த விந்திய மலையை அடக்கிட
உயரம் குறைந்த குறுமுனியை நாடினர்.

கதிரவன் முதலோர் முனிவரை நினைத்து
துதிபல செய்துப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர்;

தமக்கு இட்ட விண்ணப்பத்தை ஏற்றுத்
தாமே தேவர் குறை தீர்க்க எண்ணினார்.

சிவனை நினைந்தார் குறுமுனி அகத்தியர்.
சிவன் வந்தான் காளை ஊர்தியில் ஏறி.

"விந்திய மலையின் ஆணவத்தை அடக்க
வேண்டிய வலிமை எனக்கு அருள்வாய்!"

"விந்தியத்தின் ஆணவத்தை அடக்கியபின்
விளங்குவாய் நீ பொதியமலையின் மீது!"

"தென்திசை சென்றபின்னர் உம்மை வழிபட
நன்நீரைத் தந்து அருளவேண்டும் ஐயனே!"

திருக்கயிலையில் இருந்த ஏழு நதிகளில்
பெருமை மிகுந்த காவிரியை அளித்தார்.

விரும்பிப் பெற்ற காவிரி கமண்டலத்தில்!

2 (# 23). Sage Agasthya.

To check the haughty behavior of the Vindya giri, devas sought the help of the vaamana roopa sage Agasthya.

The Sun, the moon and the other planets prayed to the sage to help them. Agasthya accepted their request. He contemplated on Lord Siva, who appeared seated on his bull Nandhi devan.

"Lord! Please give me the ability to control the arrogant Vindya giri."

Lord replied, "After conquering Vindhya giri, you will reside in the mountain Pothigai"

" Lord! I will need pure water to perform my daily rituals and puja."

Siva presented him with one the seven rivers flowing in Kailash called the river Kaveri.

The river was placed in the kamandalam of the rishi and he set out towards the Pothigai giri.

2 (# 24). கிரௌஞ்சமலை.

தூயபிரான் சொற்படிச் செல்லும் முனிவர்
மாயாபுரி நகரை நெருங்கி விட்டார்.

மாயங்கள் செய்யும் அவுணன் கிரௌஞ்சன்
மாயமலையாகிச் செல்லும் வழிமறித்தான்.

வியந்து நின்றார் அகத்திய முனிவர் அந்த
வினோத மலையை எதிரே கண்டவுடனே.

தன்னுள்ளே அவரைச் சிறை செய்ய எண்ணித்
தானே ஒரு வழியைக் காட்டினான் அவுணன்.

வேறு வழி எதையும் காணாத அம்முனிவர்
வேறு வழியின்றி அதனுள்ளே நுழைந்தார்.

குகையும் தொடர்ந்து வழி விட்டது - பிறகு
குகையின் வழி தடைபட்டது முற்றிலுமாக!

மூடிய குகையில் எப்படி உண்டாயின
இடியும், காற்றும், மழையும், தீயும்?

அவுணனின் மாயையைக் கண்டு சினந்து
அவுணமலையைத் தடியால் அடித்தார்.

"சொந்த வடிவம் தொலைந்து மலையாகி நில்!
கந்தன் கைவேல் உன்னைப் பிளக்கும் வரை!"

கையால் நீரை அள்ளித் தெளித்து அவுணப்
பொய்யோனின் மாயத்தைப் போக்கினார்.

அன்று தொட்டு ஒரு மலையாக நின்றவனை
இன்று உன் கைவேல் பிளந்தது முருகா!

2 (#24). Krounja Giri.

Agasthya went southwards to Pothigai giri as ordered by Lord Siva. He reached Maayaapuri - the capital city of Taaraka asuran.

Krounjan, an asuran with many tricks up his sleeves, transformed himself into a mountain and blocked the path of the sage.

Agasthya was wonder-struck at the sight of this strange mountain. The mountain wanted to imprison the sage inside its womb.

It showed a solitary path to enter into it. The sage entered into the path which took him deeper inside.

Then he came to a dead end. There came bolts of thunder, a severe storm, heavy rain and burning fire in that closed mountain.

The sage realized that they were the trick of the aursan. He hit the mountain with his staff and cursed it thus.

"You will lose your original form and stand here as a mountain until the spear of Skandan destroys you completely!"

He sprinkled some water and destroyed the power of the asura turned mountain. Since than he had stood here as this mountain. Today your spear has destroyed him completely oh Lord Muruga!"

Thus spoke the Deva guru Bruhaspathi.

2 (# 25). பாதாளத்தில் விந்தியம்.

திருத்தலங்களைத் தரிசித்த அகத்தியர்
கருவம் மிகுந்த விந்தியத்தைக் கண்டார்.

"பொதிய மலை செல்ல வேண்டும் யான்
ஒதுங்கி வழி விடுவாய் விந்திய மலையே!"

"சந்திரனும், சூரியனும் செல்லாதபடி
விந்தையாக வளர்ந்து நிற்கின்றேன்.

எந்தக் காரணத்துக்கும் வழி விடேன்!
வந்த வழியே திரும்பிச் சென்றுவிடு!"

குறுமுனி நகைத்தார் இம்மொழி கேட்டு.
இறையின் திருவடியை நெஞ்சில் பதித்தார்.

நீண்ட கரத்தை மலை உச்சிமேல் வைத்து
மீண்டும் அழுத்தினார் மலையைக் கீழே!

பாதாளத்துக்கு இறங்கி விட்டது மலை.
ஆதி சேடன் நிலையை அடைந்தது அது.

புத்தி கெட்டது ஆணவம் கொண்டதும்!
புத்தி வந்தது அதன் ஆணவம் அழிந்ததும்!

"பிழையைப் பொறுத்து என்னை மன்னியும்.
பழைய நிலையை நான் அடைவது எப்போது?"

"மீண்டும் நான் இந்த வழிவே வரும்போது
மீண்டும் நீ உன் உயர்நிலை அடைவாய்!"

விந்தியம் மறைந்து விட்டது நிலத்துக்குள்.
விண்ணவர் மலர் மழையைப் பொழிந்தனர்.

கையைச் சுருக்கிக் கொண்டார் அகத்தியர்.
பையச் செல்லலானார் பொதிகை மலைக்கு.
