A poem a day to keep all agonies away!

4 # 3a. The war on the first day.

The messengers reached Bhaanukoban's palace. They paid their obeisance to him and conveyed their message.

Immediately the generals got their army ready for the war. The minsters stood ready to give advice. Many war drums were played and they crossed many streets to reach Soorapadman's palace.

"Sire! Why did you wish to see me?" Bhaanukoban demanded his father.

"The boy who had killed Taarakan and Krounjan has come here to wage a war. Vishnu, Brahma and Indra are with him now.

Fighting with a mere child will tarnish my image.
I want you to go and defeat them and come back to me victoriously."

Bhaanukoban beamed with happiness. His shoulders swelled up seeking to fight the war. He replied,

"Sire ! It is my duty to please you. I shall capture all the Deva and bring them here. You may give them any punishment your heart fancies."
 
4 # 3 b. போருக்குப் புறப்பாடு.

மாளிகையை அடைந்தான் பானுகோபன்;
தோள்கள் துடிக்கப் போரினை விழைந்தான்.

வெற்றித் திருமகளை வணங்கி முதலில்!
வெற்றிக் கழல்கள் பூட்டினான் கால்களில்.

உடைவாளைச் சொருகினான் இடையில்;
உடல்மூடியையும் அணிந்து கொண்டான்;

முதுகில் தாங்கினான் அம்புக் கூட்டத்தை;
புதுமையான பட்டம் அவன் நெற்றியில்.

படைக்கலங்கள் சுமந்தான் போருக்கு.
படைவீரர்கள் புடை சூழச் சென்றான்;

பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் அவுணர்கள்;
பதினாயிரம் வெள்ளம் கரி, பரி, தேர்;

முப்பதாயிரம் குதிரைகள் பூட்டிய தேரில்
அப்பழுக்கு இல்லாத அந்த பானுகோபன்;

போருக்கு அவுணர்கள் புறப்பட்டதும்
முருகனிடம் விரைந்து நாரதர் சென்றார்.

"தூதுவர் மூலம் செய்தி அறிந்த சூரன்
பாதுகாவலுடன் அனுப்பினான் மகனை;

அனைத்து தேவர்களையும் வென்றவன்,
அனைத்து மாயங்களையும் கற்றவன்;

வெல்ல இயலாது அவனைப் பிறரால்!
செல்ல வேண்டும் போருக்கு நீங்களே!"

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
4 # 3 b. To the war front.

Bhaanukoban went to his palace. He was eager to fight the war. He worshiped the Goddess of Victory. He put on the veerak kazhalgal on his ankles.

He wore his sword in his waist. He wore the body kavasam. The arrows filled the quiver on his back. He wore a decoration on his forehead.

He left surrounded by his army of ten thousand veLLam of asuras, ten thousand VeLLam of horses, elephants and chariots. He rode a chariot drawn by thirty thousand horses.

Narada rushed to meet Murugan and told him thus:

"Soorapadman got the news through his messengers. He has sent his son Bhaanukoban with a huge army. His son has conquered all the Deva.

He knows all tricks of the war. No one can conquer him but you. You must go to the war front in person".
 
4 # 3 c. வீரவாகு.

நாரத முனிவர் நவின்ற சொற்களை
மாறாத நகையுடன் கேட்ட முருகன்;

வீரவாகுத் தேவரை அழைத்தான்!
சூரபத்மன் மகன் பற்றிக் கூறி விட்டு,

"நூறாயிரத்து எட்டு மள்ளர்களுடனும்
ஓராயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதப் படையுடன்

அவுணர்களைப் போரில் வென்று நீ
அவனியை மகிழ்விக்கச் செல்வாய்!"

முருகனிடம் விடைபெற்றார் வீரவாகு!
மேருவை நிகர்த்த வில்லை ஏந்தினார்.

அணிந்தார் அழகிய உடல் மூடியை.
அணிந்தார் முதுகில் அம்பறாத் துணி.

பூத மள்ளர்கள் புடை சூழ்ந்தனர்.
பூதத் தலைவர்கள் படை நடத்தினர்.

பூத மள்ளர்கள் ஆற்றல் மிக்கவர்
பூவுலகைத் தோளில் தாங்க வல்லவர்

கூற்றுவனை வெல்லும் ஆற்றலும்,
மற்றும் சிவந்த சடையும் உடையவர்.

படைக்கலங்கள் இலங்கும் கையினர்.
படை நடப்பதில் விருப்பம் உள்ளவர்.

மாயங்களில் கற்றுத் தேர்ந்தவர்
ஆயாசம் இன்றிப் போர் செய்பவர்.

போர்க்கருவிகள் இசைத்து முழங்க
போர்க்களத்தை நோக்கி நடந்தனர்.

4 # 3 c. Veerabaahu.

Murugan listened to the words of Narada with a smile. He called Veerabaahu and told him, "Take with you 100,008 soldiers and one thousand vellam of demons to vanquish Bhaanukoban in today's war"

Veerabaahu got ready for the war. His bow resembles the huge Mount Meru. He wore his protective armor. He fixed his quiver. The army surrounded him in order to go with him.

The army consisted of very strong warriors. Each of them could lift the earth on his shoulder. Each of them could conquer even Yama. They were red haired and bore various arms and asthrams.

They were experts in Maya techniques. They all marched to the beat of the war drums towards the battle field.
 
4 # 3 d. போர் தொடங்கியது.

தூதனாக அன்று வந்து திரும்பிய வீரவாகு
பூதப் படைகளுடன் இன்று போர்க்களத்தில்!

பானுகோபன் நெருங்கினான் படையுடன்
கனைத்தனர் அவுணர்கள் பூதர்கள் முன்பு.

போர் மூண்டது இரு படைகள் இடையே!
தேர்கள் அழித்து ஒழித்தன தேர்களை!

கரிகள் அழித்து ஒழித்தன கரிகளை.
பரிகள் அழித்து ஒழித்தன பரிகளை.

சிங்கன் கொன்றான் அவுண அனலியை.
சிங்கன் கொன்றான் பிறகு சண்டனை.

பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் பூதங்களை!
பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் உக்கிரனை!

பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் நூற்று எண்மரை.
பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் வீரகேசரியை.

பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் வீர மார்தாண்டரை.
பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் வீர ராக்கதரை.

பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் வீர ராந்தகரை.
பானுகோபன் எதிர்த்தான் வீரவாகுவை.

மோகக்கணை செலுத்தினான் பானுகோபன்.
மோகக்கணை அழித்தது பூத உணர்வுகளை!

அமோகக் கணையை முருகன் உருவாக்க,
அக்கணை அழித்தது மோகக்கணையை.

மோகப்படையின் ஆற்றல் அழிந்ததும்
மோகத்தினின்றும் மீண்டது பூதப் படை.

சிவப் படைக் கலத்தை எடுத்தான் முருகன்
எவரும் அறியாது மறைந்தான் பானுகோபன்.

கதிரவன் மேற்கில் விழுந்து மறைந்தான்
பூதப் படை திரும்பியது அதன் பாசறைக்கு.

4 # 3 d. The war began.

Bhaanukoban noticed that Veerabaahu who had earlier come as the messenger of Murugan was now in the battle field.

The two armies moved in closer. The war began. Chariots fought chariots; elephants fought elephants and horsemen fought horsemen.

Singan killed Anali and Chandan. Bhaanukoban fought valaintly with the army of demons, with Ugran, with the 108 generals and with the Nava Shakthi Kumaaraas.

He shot the Moga asthram which sent the entire army of Murugan into delusion. Murugan shot the Amoga asthram which nullified the effects of the Moga asthram.
The demons in the army came back to their senses.

Murugan wanted to shoot the Paasupada asthra of Siva. It was invincible. Bhaanukoban who knew this truth just disappeared from the battle field unseen by an one there. The Sun set in the west. The army of demons returned to its camp.
 
4 # 3 e. மகேந்திரபுரி.

புறமுதுகு இட்டு ஓடிய பானுகோபன்
பெருமையையும் இழந்து விட்டான்.

சூரபத்மனிடம் திரும்பவும் இல்லை.
ஆர அமர்ந்து களிக்கவும் இல்லை.

ஓரிடத்தில் அமர்ந்து ஆலோசித்தான்
வீரபாகுவை வெல்லும் வழிகளை.

ஒற்றர்கள் கண்டனர் நிகழ்ச்சிகளை!
கொற்றவனிடம் சென்று விண்டனர்.

பகைவரை வெல்லாமல் மகன் ஓடியது
திகைப்பை அளித்தது சூரபத்மனுக்கு.

"புறமுதுகிட்டு ஓடியவனைப் போருக்கு
மறுபடி அனுப்புவதில் பயன் இல்லை.

சுற்றத்தினரும் மற்றவர்களும் நன்கு
கற்றுக் கொண்டனர் பிழைக்கும் வழி!

நாளை படையுடன் சென்று போரில்
நானே வெற்றி கொண்டு மீள்வேன்."

4 # 3 e. Mahendrapuri.

After running away from the battle field unseen by any one, Bhaanukoban felt ashamed of himself. He did not go back to his father, nor could he enjoy as he usually did. He sat alone and was wondering as to how to conquer Veerabaahu.

The messengers watched the events and rushed to report them to their king. Soorapadman was shocked to learn that his son had run away from the battle field and hid himself.

He thought to himself, "There is no point in sending to the war front my son who ran way from the war front. People have learned all the tricks needed to save their skin. I myself will go to the front to fight with Murugan and Veerabaahu".
 
4 # 4 a. சூரபத்மன் புறப்படுதல்.

கதிரவன் உதிக்கும் முன்பே எழுந்து
அதியுற்சாகமாகத் தயாரானான் சூரன்.

"புறமுதுகிட்டு வந்த மகனைப் போருக்கு
மறுபடி அனுப்புவது நடவாத காரியம்!

நானே போருக்குச் சென்று வென்று
நாளை நகர் திரும்புவேன் களிப்புடன்!"

ஆயிரம் கோடி ஒற்றர்கள் சென்றனர்!
அவுண மறவர்களைத் திரட்டி வந்தனர்.

கணக்கற்ற அவுணர்கள் வந்து சேர்ந்து
இணக்கமாகத் தலை நகரில் குழுமினர்.

உயர்ந்த மாளிகையிலிருந்து கண்டதும்
தளர்ந்த மனஉறுதி வளர்ந்தது மீண்டும்.

போருக்குப் புறப்பட்டான் சூரபத்மன்;
மேருவை ஒத்த தேரில் அமர்ந்தான்.

நால் வகைப் படைகளும் உடன் நடக்க
தூள் பறந்தது நடக்கும் காலடிகளால்.

அதிசூரனும், அசுரேந்த்ரனும் படை நடத்த
கதி கலங்க வைக்கும் படை நடந்தது.

தொண்டகம், துடி, பம்பை, முருடு,
தூரியம், கொம்பு, படகம், என்னும்

வாத்தியங்கள் ஒன்றாய் முழங்கிட
சாத்தியம் வெற்றி என்று தோன்றியது.

தேர்களின் ஒலியும், பரிகளின் ஒலியும்,
போர் முரசொலியும், கரிகளின் ஒலியும்,

போர் மறவர்களின் வீரக்கழல் ஒலியும்,
பரந்து விரிந்து எங்கும் எதிரொலிக்க,

பறந்த துகள்கள் மறைத்தன ஆதவனை.
சிறந்த விண்ணுலகம் மண்ணுலகானது!

கொடிகள் வான்கங்கையில் நனைந்து
கொடிய சூரனின் முடிவு நெருங்கியதென

கண்ணீர் விட்டு அழுவதைப் போலவே
விண்ணிலிருந்து மண்ணில் சொரிந்தன.

4 # 4 a. Soorapadman goes to war.

The next day Soorapadman got up before sunrise and got ready for the war. He had decided that it was useless sending his son Bhaanukoban to the war since he had fled from the battle field the previous day.

His summoned his messengers to gather all the asura warriors. Every single asura warrior reported to the capital city immediately. When Soorapadman saw the huge crowd of asura warriors, his hope of victory was rekindled.

He sat on his chariot as huge as mount Meru. The chaturanga sena walked along with him. The dust thrown up by the marching feet made the world appear dark. Athisooran and Asurendran lead the army.

The various instruments of war were played inspiring hope and courage in the hearts of the warriors. The mixed sound made by the chariots, the elephants, the horses and the sound of the kazhal worn by the men was heard everywhere. The dust hid the sun and the swarga was tarnished by the dust.

The long flags carried by the army got wet by the water of Akaash Ganga. They sprinkled it down to the earth in the form of tear drops which appeared to symbolize the fact that the end of Soorapadman was fast approaching.
 
4 # 4b. முருகன் புறப்படுதல்.

போருக்கு சூரபத்மன் படை நடத்துவதை
நேருக்கு நேர் கண்டான் அமரர்கோன்.

முருகக்கடவுளின் திருவடிகள் பற்றி
"தருவீர் மீண்டும் சுவர்க்க வாழ்வு!" என,

முருகன் முறுவலுடன் ஆமோதித்தான்.
விரைந்து தேரைக் கொணர்ந்தான் வாயு.

நடக்கத் தொடங்கியது படை; தக்கை,
உடுக்கு, கல்லரி, தடாரியை இசைத்தபடி.

அவுணப் படை சூழ்ந்தது பூதப்படையை!
அவுணப்படை தாக்கியது பூதப்படையை!

மரம், மலை, தடி, கழுமுள், உருளை, வேல்
எறிந்தனர் பூதர்கள் அவுணர்கள் மேல்!

தடி, உருளை, சூலம், கணை, கணிச்சிகளை
தொடுத்தனர் அவுணர்கள் பூதர்கள் மேல்.

அதிசூரனைப் பொருது வென்றான் உக்கிரன்;
அசுரேந்திரனைப் பொருது வென்றான் வீரவாகு.

தம்பியர் எண்மர் தோற்றனர் சூரனிடம்;
தம்பி வீரவாகு தோற்றான் சூரனிடம்,

தெய்வப் படைக் கலங்கள் அனைத்தும்
செய்வதறியாமல் செயல் இழந்தன!

வீரவாகு ஆற்றலின்றித் தேரில் விழ
ஓரமாகத் தேரை ஒதுக்கினான் சாரதி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
4 # 4 b. Murugan goes to war.

Indra saw with his own eyes the army marched by Soorapadman himself. He caught hold of the lotus feet of Murugan and prayed to him, "Please restore us in swarga." Murugan nodded with a smile.

Vayu brought Murugan's chariot. The army started marching to the tune and beat of the various musical instruments of war.

The asura army surrounded the army of Murugan. The two armies fought using uprooted trees, uprooted mountains, sticks, wheels, discusses, spears, tridents, bow and arrows and other such instruments.

Ugran defeated Athisooran and Veerabaahu defeated Asurendran. His eight younger brothers were defeated by Soorapadman. Veerabaahu also was defeated by Soorapadman.

All their divine asthrams were powerless against Soorapadman. Veerabaahu became weak and fainted in his chariot. His saarathi took the chariot away from the war front.

 
4 # 4 c. முருகன் வருதல்.

ஈராயிரம் வெள்ளம் பூதப் படைகளும்,
நூறாயிரத்து எண்மரும் ஆற்றலழிவதை

நேரில் கண்டார் ஆறுமுகத்து அண்ணல்
தேரில் நெருங்கினார் சூரபத்மனை.

"தனியொருவனாகப் போரிட வந்தாயோ?
இனியொருசிறுவனா என்னை வெல்வான்?"

பிரானும் திருமாலும் போரிட எண்ணார்;
பிறரைப் போல் எண்ணாதே என்னையும்!"

"அறியாமையில் அழுந்திய அவுணனே!
பொறி ஒன்று போதும் உலகை அழிக்க!

எதிர்ப்பவருடன் போர் புரிவதே நெறி.
எதிர்பேச்சு வேண்டாம் நீ போர் புரி!"

பிரமன் படையை எறிந்தான் சூரன்
பிரமன் படையை விழுங்கியது வேல்!

மாலின் படையை எறிந்தான் சூரன்;
மாலின் படையை விழுங்கியது வேல்!

சிவப்படையை செலுத்தினான் சூரன்!
சிவப் படை சென்றது தீப்பிழம்பாக!

தளர்ந்து போயின அஷ்டதிக்கஜங்கள்!
தளர்ந்து போனான் ஆதிசேட நாகம்!

நெக்கியது நிலம்! ஓடியது ஊழித்தீ!
சிந்திச் சிதறின இடிகளை முகில்கள்!

ஆதவன் துடித்தான்; திங்கள் சுழன்றான்;
ஆறுமுகன் கைசேர்ந்தது அச் சிவப்படை.

4 # 4 c. Murugan arrives.

Murugan saw his army and its generals powerless and helpless. He approached Soorapadman on his chariot.

"So you have come to fight me all alone! A little boy dreaming of defeating me? Even Siva and Vishnu will not dare to fight with me! Do not think that I am just an ordinary person!"

Murugan replied, "You are immersed in deep ignorance. To burn this whole wide world a little spark of fire is enough. Moreover You have to fight whoever challenges you. That is the rule of here. Come and fight with me!"

Soorapadman threw the Brahma asthram.
Murugan's spear rendered it powerless.

Soorapadman threw the Vishnu ashram.
Murugan's spear rendered it powerless!

Soorapadman threw the Siva asthram.
It sped fast emitting fire and sparks.

The ashta dig gajam suffered from the intense heat. The aadiseshan suffered from the intense heat.

The earth seemed to melt and the fire resembles pralayaagni. The clouds showered thunder bolts and lighting.

The courses of the sun and moon were disturbed. The siva ashtram reached Murugan's hand without harming him!


 
4 # 4 d. முருகனும், சூரபத்மனும்.

ஜயந்தனையும், பிற தேவர்களையும்
பயமின்றிச் சிறைப்படுத்தினாய் நீ!

தூதுவனை அனுப்பி விடுதலை கேட்டும்
ஏதும் ஏற்கப் படவில்லை உன்னால்.

போருக்கு நானே நேரில் வந்தேன்.
தாரகனைக் கொன்றேன் முன்னமே!

உன்னை இன்றைக்கே அழிக்கிலேன்!
உன் படைகள், படைகலங்கள் இன்றித்

தனியே நிற்கும் உன்னைக்கொல்லேன்.
இனியும் இன்னுயிர் பிழைக்கலாம் நீ.

தேவர்களைச் சிறை விட்டுவிடு உடனே!
ஏவும் முன்னரே நீங்கிவிடும் என் படை!

எண்ணம் என்ன எனத் திண்ணமாய் கூறு.
எண்ணம் போல் அமையும் உந்தன் வாழ்வு!"

முருகனின் மொழிகளைக் கேட்ட பின்பும்
பெறவில்லை சூரபத்மன நல்லறிவை.

"சிறுவன் அறியான் என் பெருமையை.
அருமைத் தந்தை தந்த மேன்மையை.

என் படைக்கலங்களை அழித்தபோதும்
என்னை அழிக்க முடியுமா இவனால்?

என்னை கொல்லுதல் அரிது என்றுமே.
நான் அவனை வெல்லுதல் அரிது இன்று.

தகுந்த படைக்கலங்களுடன் வந்து நாளை
தகுந்த பாடம் புகட்டுவேன் சிறுவனுக்கு!"

மாய மந்திரத்தை மனத்தில் ஓதினான்.
மாயமாக அங்கிருந்து மறைந்து போனான்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
4 # 4 d. Murugan and Soorapadman.

Murugan spoke to Soorapadman," You imprisoned Jayanthan and the other Deva. I sent a messenger seeking their release from your prison.

You did not agree to it. I had to come down to wage a war with you. I have killed Taarakan. I could have killed you today, but I will not do so.

You have lost all your weapons and your army. You can still live if you release the Deva from your prison. My army will go back at once.

Tell me frankly your opinion and your life now depends on it."

Soorapadman did not like Murugan' s words nor learned the soundness of his advice. He thought to himself,

"This little boy does not know about me greatness. He does not know about all the rare boons his father has given me. He may destroy my weapons. Can he ever destroy me?

So he will not kill me today. He can never kill me. I can win him easily when I return with my army and armaments tomorrow."

He recited the mantra for becoming invisible and disappeared from there.



 
4 # 4 e. முருகனும், தேவர்களும்.

சூரபத்மன் ஆற்றல் அழிந்து மறைந்ததும்
கூறினர் திருமால், நான்முகன், தேவர்கள்,

"பிறந்தது முதல் வெற்றியே அடைந்தவன்
மறைந்து போனான் தோற்றுப் போனதும்.

சூரனுடன் செய்த இப்போர் உனக்குச் சிறிய
வீரவிளையாட்டே என்பதை யாமறிவோம்.

அவனை வென்று அருள்வாய் முருகா.
அவனைத் தப்பிக்க அனுமதியாதே!"

"மறுபடி போருக்கு வரும் சூரபத்மன்
உறுதியாகப் பிழைத்துச் செல்லான்!".

முறுவலுடன் முருகன் உறுதி மொழியை
மறுபடியும் தேவர்களுக்குத் தந்தான்.

4 # 4 e. Murugan and the Deva.

When Soorapadman disappeared after becoming invisible, the Deva spoke to Murugan thus:

"We know that the war with Soorapadman was a child's play for you Muruga! He had always tasted victory from the day he was born.

Now that he got defeated for the first time in his life, he has disappeared. But you have to get rid of him. Please do not let him escape. His atrocities must come to an end!"

Murugan replied with a smile,"Do not worry. The next time Soorapadman comes to the war, he will surely be destroyed!"
 
4 # 4f. மகேந்திரபுரியை அழித்தல்.

தோற்றோடிய பூதர்களும், துன்பம்
ஆற்றாது தளர்ந்து விழுந்தவர்களும்,

மறைந்து சூரபத்மன் ஒளிந்த பிறகு
முருகக் கடவுளை வந்தடைந்தனர்.

"சூரபத்மனின் மகேந்திரபுரியை நாம்
ஆரவாரம் செய்யும் கடலில் எறிவோம்!"

ஒருவரை ஒருவர் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு
புறப்பட்டு அடைந்தனர் மதிற்சுவற்றை.

மதிலை அடைந்த பூதப்படையைக் கண்டு
மதிற்காவலன் அதிகோரன் சினந்தான்;

போர்க்கருவிகள் முழங்க அவுணர்கள்
போர் புரிந்தனர் பூதப் படைகளுடன்;

ஈட்டியால் குத்தியும் வாளால் துணித்தும்
எறிந்தனர் மரங்களையும் மலைகளையும்!

பூதங்கள் போரிட, அவுணர்கள் அழிந்திட
பருந்துகளும்,காகங்களும் வந்து கூடின.

அதிகோரனை மேகர் அடித்தார் மார்பில்
அதிகோரன் மடிந்தான் சுருண்டு விழுந்து.

பேரொலி செய்த பூதங்கள் பிறகு சென்றனர்;
ஆயிரம் யோசனை உயர்ந்த கோபுரத்தை

பிடுங்கிக் கடலில் அதை வீசி எறிந்தனர்.
நடுங்கியது நிலம்; நடுங்கினான் சேடன்;

ஆழ்ந்தது கோபுரம் மந்தர மலை போல்
சூழ்ந்தது நகரைக் கடல் நீர் மேல் எழுந்து.

இடித்தும், மிதித்தும் மதில்களை வீழ்த்திக்
கடலில் தள்ளியும் நகரை அழித்தனர்.

4 # 4 f. Destroying Mahendrapuri.

After Soorapadman disappeared the army of Murugan returned to him. They called out to one another, "Come on! Let us go and destroy the capital city of Soorapadman!"

The army reached the encircling wall protecting the city. Athigoran was guarding the wall and he became very angry when his eyes fell on the approaching army of demons.

The asuras fought the army of demons. The used freely spears, swords, uprooted trees and mountains.

There was a heavy loss of life on the side of the asura army and the carrion birds assembled to feast or the dead bodies.

Megar hit Athigorn on his chest and killed him. The army of demons rejoiced loudly. They demolished the encircling wall of the city and threw it into the sea.

The earth shook and Adiseshan trembled. The Gopuram submerged like the Mount Mandara. The sea water rose up. The army of demons destroyed the protective wall and the city completely.
 
4 # 4 g. தந்தையும், மைந்தனும்.

தோற்றோடிய சூரபத்மன் அடைந்தான்
ஆற்றாமையுடன் தன் அரண்மனையை;

போர்ச் சூழ்ச்சிகளை எண்ணினான் அவன்.
போரில் சூரபத்மன் தோற்று வந்த சேதியை

உரைத்தனர் தூதுவர் பானுகோபனுக்கு;
உடன் வந்து சேர்ந்தான் தந்தையிடம்.

"நானே வெல்வேன் பூதப் படைகளை
நாளை செல்ல அனுமதியுங்கள் என்னை."

"முருகன் போரில் வெல்வது என்பது
ஒருவருக்கும் இயலாது என்னைத் தவிர.

மற்றவர்களை நீ வெல்வாய் மகனே!
மற்று என் இலக்கு அந்த முருகனே!"

பானுகோபன் மகிழ்ந்து உடன் பட,
தானும் மனமகிழ்ந்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

தந்தையிடம் விடை பெற்ற தனயன்
தன் இருப்பிடத்தைச் சென்றடைந்தான்.

விரைந்து வந்தனர் அவுண ஒற்றர்கள்;
உரைத்தனர் பூதர்கள் செய்தவற்றை.

அவுணத் தச்சன் அழைக்கப்பட்டான்;
அவுண நகரம் புதுப்பிக்கப் பட்டது.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
4 # 4 g. The father and the son.

Soorapadman reached his palace sad and crest fallen. He sat contemplating on the war techniques.

Messengers told Bhaanukoban about his father's defeat and misery. He reached his father's palace immediately.

"Father! I will defeat Murugan's army tomorrow. Please allow me to lead our army."

"Son! No one can fight Murugan except me. You can fight with all the others but I will fight with Murugan myself"

This was agreeable to both the father and the son. They both became happy.

Bhaanukoban returned to his palace. The messengers rushed in carrying the news of the destruction of the city by the army of Murugan.

The asura carpenter was summoned immediately and he restored the city to its original glory.
