1#12b. Siva’s curse
Sanaka and his brothers were traveling in the sky towards the tapovanam. Siva asked Uma who got startled and ran away in a hurry ,”Why are you agitated my Devi?’”
Uma replied, “The Muni kumaaraas went by and their brilliance lit up the whole place. I became shy by the arrival of those four sages and ran to hide myself before they could see me”
“This is our personal garden and no one should disturb us when we are together here. In future if any man enters this garden he will be transformed into a woman”
Siva had laid this curse. Sudyumnan was unaware of this when he entered the garden and hence got transformed into a woman and his horse into a mare.
Chandran’s son Budhan went by when he was traveling across the countries. He fell in love with the beautiful maiden ILai. She too fell head over heels in love with this handsome young man. They enjoyed togetherness to the fullness of their satisfaction.
Budhan went off on his way. ILai had become pregnant with his child. In due course she delivered a healthy male child who was named as Purooravan.
ILai became sad thinking of the past when she was the ruler of a country. Now she was a helpeless woman in a forest – with an infant to take care of.
She contemplated on her kulaguru and sought his help and intervention. The kulaguru knew the events that had happened by his divya drushti.
He decided to help the king Sudyumnan to get back his original form and gender. He started doing penance on Lord Siva who had laid the curse.
