Namskaram to respected members,
I am a new member. My full name is Govindakrishnan Alagar. I am a retired IA&AS officer from the CAG's establishment. I am a native of Srivilliputtur, birth place of Sri Aandal. I belong to the vadakalai sect of Iyengar, belonging to the Srimath Aandavan Ashram.
My main avocation after retirment is writing Tamil devotional verses, which so far have run over 1000 due to the grace of my aacharyan and Lord.
I am a devotee of Saibaba- shridi and parthi.

I am happy to be here at last! (I have been seeing this site often but overcame my inertia to register!)

I belong to the Ashtasahasram subsect hence I have added that to my name here (Otherwise Sridhar was not available).

As it happens couple of friends and I have taken up the daunting task of
1. Doing research on the origins of the Ashtasahasram subsect. There is very little material available (except some fine pictures of the Ennayiram village)
2. Create an "Ashtasahasrams Worldwide" Database of Ashtasahasram families. We think this will be a fascinating project.
The little home work that I have done during family weddings reveals amazing links and family trees expanding.
So much for my introduction now.

I request you all to read my mail under 'Pilgrimage' column - Tiruvannamalai Girivalam and give your valuable feedbacks. Recently I received a mail from someone inviting everyone for Girivalam on 14/12/09 and special pooja at Kubera Lingam on that day. I am not against it but the Invitation is titled as "how to become rich" - and he goes on to explain that by visiting Kubera Lingam few times he had become rich. Is this the way we need to popularise our Brahmin beliefs? And many of us do not know that all the temples in the Girivalam route are privately owned. And now Kubera Lingam Temple is aggresively marketed by these type of gimmicks. Let us be aware of these developments and my request is we should avoid these commercialisation techniques. One should pray with devotion and not expecting something in return. Karmanye vadhikarasthe maa phaleshu ...........
