இரண்டாமவர் பகுத்தறிவுவாதி;

“முடியும்” என்றால் எல்லாம் முடியும்;

“உருவம்” என்றால் உண்டு உருவம்;

#052. Paripoorna Bhakti ( Total Faith )

Naradha was returning from Vaikuntam. He met two true thapasvis on the way. They were doing penance with the idea of getting a glimpse of BhagavAn.

They asked whether NAradha was returning from Vaikuntam. When NAradha said that he was in fact returning after having dharshan of Lord NArayaNa.

The tapasvis asked him,” What was the God doing there?”

NAradha told them, “Lord NArAyaNa was passing elephants and camels through the eye of a needle.”

One of the two tapasvis believed NAradha’s words as he had paripoorna bhakti (total faith on God) and said, “Nothing is impossible for the Lord.”

The other tapasvi used his common sense and hence doubted the words spoken by NAradha.

In the world also half the people doubt the powers of God, while the other half believes that anything is possible for God.

மறைந்து விடும் அந்த மாயப் பண மூட்டை;

ஒவ்வொரு நாணயம் உருண்டோடுவது போல;

#053. SILVER COINS.

Suppose I present you with a bagful of silver coins everyday, what will you do? The coins I give you are different. You may spend them to your heart’s delight but you can not save them nor can you transfer them to the next day’s account.

Either you use them or lose them – as the unspent money will disappear into thin air! What will you under these circumstances?

You will be careful to spend each coin well and intelligently, in getting the things you cherish most. You won’t want to waste the coins or lose them forever!

God gives each and every one of us, everyday, a wonderful bag containing 86,400 precious seconds. We can spend them but we can neither transfer them nor save them. Time wasted is lost forever!

Yet how many seconds, minutes and hours we just waste everyday! We are extremely careful not to waste even one rupee but we never bother about the 1000s of seconds we waste just like that!

If we imagine a silver coin rolling away from our collection every time we waste a second, we will realize the value of time and use it wisely.

சென்றவன் கண்டான் மண்டையோடு;

“தேவை இன்னும் ஒன்றே ஒன்றுதான்;

#054. Nothing is impossible for God

A man’s son suffered from a strange disease. The only medicine was the rain water and cobra poison collected in a human skull when the star Swathi was at its uchcham (highest position).

The man had staunch faith in God and prayed to Him. The next morning the star swathi would be at its uchcham. He set out to the woods and found a human skull – something which is very weird and rare to locate!

It started raining. A frog came out to play in the rain and a cobra tried to catch it. The frog escaped but the venom of the snake fell in the skull in which the rain water was falling.

God was truly great. He had fulfilled all the four difficult conditions! The man thanked His grace and rushed home to his son. The medicine saved his son’s life.

Never doubt the immense power of God. Nothing is impossible for Him. With an unshakable faith and a sincere effort from our side we can achieve the nearly impossible miracles als

#055. பிறவியும், உயர்வும்

பிறவியில் உயர்வு அடைபவர் மூவர்;

உயர்ந்துவிடுவர் சில பாக்கியசாலிகள்;

#055. THE GREATNESS OF MEN AND WOMEN

The heights by great men reached and kept are of three different types. Those who are born great, those who acquire greatness and those who have greatness thrust upon them.

The first type of great men are lucky enough to be born in great families. They need not struggle much to retain their greatness.

The second type struggle hard, overcome several hardships and attain an enviable height by their own efforts.

The third type are neither born in great families nor do they struggle much to come up in life. Fate also known as Good Fortune makes them great in life.

The first and the third type of greatness may vanish and disappear but never the second type achieved by one’s own hard work.

“தந்தையார் அளித்தால் உண்கின்றீர்;

#056. Trust in God.

A pujari who did puja in a rich man’s house had to go out of his village for a few days. He did not want to stop the daily puja. So his young son was entrusted with the daily puja.

The boy offered neivedhyam but the God did not eat. God never came to eat the offerings. The boy did not know about it.

So he waited for a long time. Finally he lost his patience and started crying – thinking that the God was angry with him and hence refused to eat the food being offered by him.

Finally the God took pity on the crying boy, assumed a human form and ate the neivedhyam. People were wonderstruck by the bakthi and unshakable faith of the little boy.

You could have stopped with pointing out how to edit my settings to block any unwanted messages in my E'mail inbox -- not just my 'Inbox for messages' on this forum, which made me complain of invasion of privacy. I would have been thankful to you for that information. However, to go further than that and say: "Let us not blame others for our mistakes/shortcomings and maintain a decorum in this august forum".
Well,that shows a certain arrogance on your part as though you are the arbiter of what is in line with decorum and what is not on this august forum! Mind that you do not trample on the reputation of others to give them a negative score to defend ramblers like the person I mentioned.

கர்வம் உண்டாகும், கண்கண்ட உண்மை;

அவனியில் நாம் பயன் தர வாழ்ந்திடவே;

#057. INTELLECT VS HUMANISM.

Dry intellect does good to no one! The knowledge obtained from the various experiences is the real useful intelligence. It is very easy to preach but it is very difficult to practice our preachings.

A very highly educated person becomes very proud, due to his academic achievements. But a humanitarian becomes humbler and kinder as the days roll by.

The intellectual goes out of his way to prove his worth by taking part in debates, discussions, interviews and competitions. The humanitarian goes out of his way to find fresh opportunities to serve the others.

An intellectual finds it hard to discover the secrets leading to self realization. But the humanitarian is slowly and steadily led to Atma Anubhavam by his selfless service. The intellectual wants to prove everything using the theories he knows. The humanitarian gains the same knowledge more easily by his experiences.

Knowledge becomes a burden to the intellectual. Life is a happy song for the humanitarian. The intellectual yearns for awards, rewards and recognitions. The humanitarian develops Vivekam and Vairaagyam through his selfless service.

Intellect can be compared to the bright and hot Sun while the humanism can be compared to the cool and pleasing moon. We need both the Sun and the moon.

If the intellect and humanism are combined in one person, what more can we ask for?

I find that the 'Tamil Brahmin' forum itself has posted the above comment in full on my E'mail Inbox! Why should I know about it at all? You can invite me to see the thread thereof by giving a link address to which I may choose to go or not do so because I do not want to prove who is trying to denigrate and have their way still to make it known that the person conerned is a 'creative fountainhead of wisdom' in every word that has been uttered in this 'august forum' while others are there just for a few months only before they get tired of it all!

Quote:"If the intellect and humanism are combined in one person, what more can we ask for?" This is the only message worth noting in the above verse! The rest is just an attempt at polarization of the 'intellectual' and the 'humanitarian' person! Such ascription of the qualities of an intellectual and the humanitarian is rather artificail and, therefore, not convincing at all! Why would an intellectual, for instance, 'be vain and proud', 'be in the pursuit of debates and discussions', 'be yearning for awards, rewards and recognition' and 'be unable to discover Self-realization', in spite of all his 'intellectual achievement'? Because it is difficult for the intellectual to practise what he preaches? Is that not an 'assumption' or a 'presumption' or a 'conjecture' or a 'surmise'? And why should the humanitarian, for instance,'be humble and kind', 'always seek an opportunity to serve others', 'be able to develop vivekam and vairagyam' and 'be able to achieve atma anubhavam through his selfless service' in spite of lacking the knowledge about such a conception as an 'Atma' or 'Self' residing within the ordinary self? Because he gains that knowledge through his own experience of serving others selflessly? Obviously, these are 'stereotype conceptions' of 'who is an intellectual' and 'who is a humanitarian'. In reality, nothing comes in an 'white' and 'black' manner alone! There are various 'shades of grey' in-between them. Just like 'normal' health -- physically, mentally and emotionally -- and 'handicaps or disabilities' in all those areas in one form or another or in varying degrees! It is the way that our modern-day society is organized and functions that at times and in some places that one becomes a 'one-dimensional person' rather than 'multi-dimensional person' encompassing the diverse powers of the 'intellectual', 'volitional' and 'emotional' qualities of human beings in varying degrees! The fallacy in the above verse thus lies in attempting to draw a dichotomy that is not normally found in persons in various walks of life and fields of experience! The conclusion comes close to truth, but the metaphors used are incorrect!

“நாம் நினைப்பது ஒன்று;

குருநாதரிடம் கேட்போம்;

#058. Dependent or independent?

This short poem discusses whether man is dependent on God or is completely independent.

At times we feel that we have a number of choices and assume that we have plenty of independence. At other times we feel we are forced to go the way some invisible force is pushing us to go.

Let us go to our guru and get this doubt cleared.

The Guru says,” We have as much as independence as a cow tied to a post. The length of the rope is the amount of independence we are given by God. But the location of the post is God’s choice.

So we depend on God as to where we will be born and we will live but in that chosen place we have a limited independence to do or not to do certain things.”

Dear Sir,

Thank you for the compliment. Once when I was the Second year Degree students ( in 1965 ) we were all commissioned to write Tamil poems.

I argued with my Tamil lecturer saying that Poetry was not everybody's cup of tea. She told us to try it out all the same. I wrote a Poem on "Azhagu". It came out alright to my surprise.

Any Poetry needs these three things namely A theme, Any intense feeling and A large vocabulary in the chosen language.

When we express the theme (thought 0 WITH a strong feeling USING rhyming words it becomes a poetry. If any one of these three elements is lacking, we feel that it is just a collection of either empty words or words which do not move your soul or even interest you.

May be there is some truth in the saying that
"A Poet is born but an Orator is made"

(How else can we have the scores of election time speakers who manage to break the mics along with our eardrums and their vocal cords?)

Talking about orators, everyone of us is a great orator when we are comfortably seated. In fact it is difficult to stop some people from talking.

Make that person on his (hind) legs. He becomes knock kneed and tongue tied and ends up sweating profusely and even wetting his pants!

So the real secret of public speaking is

THE ABILITY TO TALK WHILE STANDING AND DARING
THE STARING OF HUNDREDS OF HUNGRY EYES.

The greatest shock and irony I find today after an enforced vacation for exactly seven days is ...
I have become a new member all over once again.
I used to be a veteran last week.
How I wish I could reverse may age and come 17 instead of 71!

And the number of posts over 20000 has dwindled down to 5000 and I am supposed to have stayed away from the forum for over 360 days!!! :faint:
And my thread is being watched!!!!

Today I will post something novel.
It will work out best when posted in Hindi.
I will use English alphabets though-to enable everyone to read it.
