சிந்தனை தந்த இந்திர ஜாலம்

#029. படைப்பாளி

இறைவன் என்னும் படைப்பாளி, என்றும்
இனியவற்றையே உலகில் படைத்திடுவான்.
ஐந்தறிவுள்ள உயிர்கள் அனைத்தும், அவன்
தந்த உடலை நிறைவுடன் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும்.

ஆறறிவு பெற்ற மனிதர்கள் மட்டும் தான்,
அவன் படைப்பிலே குறை காண்கின்றனர்.
உருவை மாற்றி அமைக்கும் முயற்சிகளில் – தம்
பொருளையும் மன நிறைவையும் இழக்கின்றனர்!

நல்ல உருவமும், நல்ல உறுப்புகளும் பெற்று,
நன்றாகவே காட்சி அளித்திட்ட போதிலும்;
நானிலத்தில் தனித் தன்மையுடன் திகழ,
நான்கு திசைகளில் ஓடி ஓடித் தேடிடுவர்!

முகத்தின் அமைப்பையே மாற்றிவிட்டு,
அகத்தில் பெரு மகிழ்ச்சி கொள்ளலாமா?
தொங்கும் தோலை இறுக்கித் தைத்து,
தோற்றத்தைப் பொலிவுறச் செய்யலாமா?

கூரிய மூக்கைச் சிறியதாய் ஆக்கலாமா?
பெரியதாகச் சிறிய கண்களை ஆக்கலாமா?
மற்ற பல உறுப்புக்களையும் தம் உடலில்
மாற்றி மாற்றி அமைத்துக் கொள்ளலாமா?

பாலைவனத் தலையிலும் நன்றாகப்
பயிர் பண்ணலாமா அடர்ந்த கூந்தலை?
பணம் படுத்தும் பாடுகளே இவைகள்!
பண்பு மேம்படப் படும் பாடுகள் அல்ல!

தம்மிடம் இல்லாதவையே அழகியவை என
நம்பிடும் இவர்கள் செல்வமும் விரயமே!
இப்படியே எண்ணங்கள் இருக்கும் போது,
எப்படியும் மன நிறைவும் வருவதில்லையே!

இறைவனை விடவும் சிறியவர்கள் நாம்;
இறையினும் சிறந்த படைப்பாளிகளா?
இந்த உண்மையை நன்கு உணர்ந்தால்,
இந்த வாழ்க்கை மிக இனிமையாகுமே!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#029. GOD-THE WONDERFUL CREATOR.

All the living creatures accept the body given by God without any complexes-except Mankind. Men and women are never satisfied with their natural assets and always wish to improve their looks.

Human beings spend a lot of time and money in these vain pursuits and lose their peace of mind also in addition to losing large sums of money.

People want to reshape their face, nose, lips, eyes, have face-lifts and try to grow hair on bald heads. They believe that beauty is what they don’t have and that they can buy it with money.

Can a man ever be a better creator than God?

#030. நினைப்பும் நிகழ்வும்

நினைப்பது ஒன்று, நடப்பது ஒன்று என்று,
நித்தமும் பலமுறை நாம் சொல்வது உண்டு.
நினைத்தது எல்லாம் நடந்தது என்றால்,
நினைக்கவே மாட்டோம், நாம் இறைவனை!

நடந்ததையே நாம் நினைத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தால்,
நடக்க வேண்டியவற்றை மறந்தே போவோம்.
நல்லது எது, அல்லாதது எது, என்று அறிவான்,
நம்மையும் விட நன்றாகவே, நம் இறைவன்.

ஜுரம் வந்த குழந்தைக்கு மருந்துகளை,
நேரம் தவறாமல் தாய் தருவதில்லையா?
குழந்தை கேட்கும் என்று காத்திருப்பாளா?
குழந்தை கேட்பதெல்லாம் கொடுத்திருப்பாளா?

கேட்கும் கெட்டதைக் கொடுத்து விடுவதா?
கேட்காத நல்லதைக் கொடுத்து விடுவதா?
தாய்க்குத் தெரியும் குழந்தையின் தேவைகள்.
தலைவன் அறிவான், நம் அனைவரின் தேவைகள்.

கேட்டும் கொடாதவர் சிறியோர் ஆவர் ;
கேளாமலே கொடுப்பார் சீரிய பெரியோர்.
பெரியவனாகவும், வலியவனாகவும்;
அரியவனாகவும், எளியவனாகவும்;

தாயுமாகித் தந்தையுமாகி, நம்மை
தாங்கி நிற்கும் தன்னிகர் அற்றவன்,
தருவான் என்றும் நமக்கு நல்லதையே.
தர மாட்டான் நாம் கேட்பதெல்லாமே!

தாயை நம்பும் சேய் போல் நாமும்,
தயாபரனை நம்புவோம் முழுமையாக.
“நம்பினார் கெடுவதில்லை!” இது நமக்கு,
நான்கு மறைகள் தரும் உத்தரவாதம்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#030. Man proposes and God disposes.

If a man gets everything he wants, he will forget God. If he remembers
everything he wanted but did not get, he won’t be able to go with his life.
God knows what is best for us and gives us exactly that.

A mother gives medicines to a child suffering from fever. She won’t wait
till the child asks for it. At the same time she won’t give everything the
child wants to eat. She will give only what is best for the child.

God is our mother. He knows what is best for us – better than we do! He
will give us the best and not all what we seek from Him. We have to trust in Him with a whole heart as a child does its mother.

#031. “பாகவதம் கேளும்!”

பண்டிதர் வந்தார் ஒரு நாட்டு அரசனிடம்,
“பாகவதம் சொல்வேன் கேளும்” என்றார்;
மேலும் கீழும் ஆராய்ந்தபின் மன்னன்,
“மேலும் படித்து விட்டு வாரும்” என்றான்.

திகைத்து நின்ற பண்டிதரும் பின்பு,
திரும்பி வந்தார் தன் இல்லத்துக்கு.
மறுமுறை அமர்ந்து படித்தார் பாகவதம்;
மறுபடி நடந்து சென்றார் மன்னனிடம்.

இம்முறையும் அவ்வாறே நடந்தது!
இன்னதென்று அறியாமல் கலங்கிய
பண்டிதர், தன் இல்லம் திரும்பி வந்தார்;
படிக்கலானார் மீண்டும் அதே பாகவதம்.

படிக்கப் படிக்கப் ஒரு பொறி தட்டியது.
“பரமன் அருளே மிகப் பெரிய செல்வம்;
இனிச் செல்லேன் ஒரு அரசனையும் நாடி!
இன்று அறிந்தேன் மேலானது எது என்று!”

மன்னன் அறிந்தான் அப்பண்டிதரின்
மனத்தில் ஏற்பட்டுள்ள மாற்றங்களை;
மண்டியிட்டு வணங்கி வேண்டினான்,
“மறுப்புச் சொல்லாமல் என் குரு ஆவீர்!”

பாகவதம் படித்துப் புரிந்து கொண்ட ஒரு
பண்டிதர் வெறும் பொருளைத் தேடுவரோ?
அருட் செல்வம் அவரிடம் குவிந்திருக்க,
பொருட்செல்வம் அவனியில் நாடுவரோ?

#031. The Pundit and the BhAgavatham.

A pundit went to a King and offered to teach him BhAgavatha mahA purANam. The king told the pundit to read it one more time and come back. When the pundit went for a second time the same thing was repeated. The pundit felt badly shaken.

He sat and started reading the BhAgavatha mahA purANam once again. It flashed in his mind that God is the greatest wealth. Why should he run after the temporary earthly wealth when he already possessed the divine wealth of bhakthi (Devotion) and Jnaanam (True knowledge) ?

Since the pundit did not come back, the king guessed the changes that had taken place in his views and ideas. The king came to him with due respects and gifts and begged the pundit to accept him as a disciple.

#032. “உன் அண்ணன்”

உருவமும், அருவமும் ஆக விளங்கும்
கருநிறக் கண்ணன், கார்மேக வண்ணன்;
வருவான் அவனை விரும்பி அழைத்தால்,
சிறுவன் ஜடிலனின் கதை இதை உணர்த்துமே!

பண்டைய நாட்களில் பள்ளிகள் குறைவு;
எண்ணிவிடலாம் ஒரு கை விரல்களால்!
படிப்பதென்றால் பல காத தூரம் தனியே
நடந்து சென்றிட வேண்டும் மாணவர்கள்.

காட்டு வழியே தன்னந் தனியே தினம்,
காட்டு விலங்குகளின் பீதியில் செல்லும்,
சிறுவன் ஜடிலன் தன் ஏழைத் தாயிடம்,
மறுகியவாறே ஒருநாள் உரைத்தான்,

“கள்ளிக் காட்டைக் கண்டாலே அச்சம்.
பள்ளி செல்லவோ மிகவும் விருப்பம்.
எனக்குத் துணையாக யார் வருவார்கள்?
எனக்கு ஒரு பதில் கூறுங்கள் அம்மா!”

“கண்ணன் இருக்கும் போது நமக்கு
என்ன பயம் சொல், என் கண்ணே” என்ற
தாயிடம் கேட்டான் “யார் அந்தக் கண்ணன்?”
தாய் சொன்னாள், “அவன் உன் அண்ணன்.”

பாதி வழியில் சிம்ம கர்ச்சனை கேட்டு,
பீதியில் உறைந்த சிறுவன் ஜடிலன்,
“கண்ணா! கண்ணா! உடனே வா! என்
அண்ணா! அண்ணா!” என்று ஓலமிட,

மனத்தை மயக்கும் மோகனச் சிரிப்புடன்,
முன்னே வந்து நின்ற அழகிய சிறுவன்,
“வா தம்பி! நாம் பள்ளிக்கு போவோம்” என
வழி காட்டி நடந்தான் ஜடிலன் முன்னே.

பள்ளியை அடைந்ததும் தம்பி ஜடிலனிடம்,
“பள்ளி விட்டதும் கூப்பிடு, வருவேன்” எனப்
பகர்ந்து மறைந்தவன் யார் என்பதை அந்தப்
பாலகன் அறியான்! நாம் அறிவோமே!

#032. “Your elder brother”.

Krishna can assume a physical form (uruvam) and he can also be without a physical form (aruvam) as He wishes to do. He will appear in person – if we call out his name with total faith and trust.

Jadilan was a young boy who had to go his school through a forest – since there were very few schools in ancient time. He would get frightened by the various growls and sounds made by wild animals on his way. He wanted someone to take him to his school safely.

His mother told him to call out the name of Krishna. The boy demanded to know who that Krishna was. The mother said,”He is your elder brother”.

The next day the boy got frightened by the growl of a lion and called out for Krishna, his elder brother, as told by his mother. A beautiful boy with a divine smile appeared before Jadilan and escorted him safely to the school. He promised to come back in the evening to take Jadilan back home from the school.

Jadilan did not know who the new boy was, but we all know who He really was!
 
God is always watching us, overseeing us,
protecting us and waiting to help us -
IF ONLY we care to call out his name.

A story goes thus:

A blind man was staggering along a road with a huge pit right in the middle of the road. Parvathy and Parameswaran who were watching him were willing to and waiting to help him.

If the blind man called out for Mother, Parvathi would rush to his help.
If the blind man called out for Father, Siva would rush to help him.
But the cursed man did not call out either for the Mother or for the Father and screamed "Aiyo" instead.

And 'Aiyo' is said to be the name of the consort of Yama! If Yama's wife turned up there on being called out, and Yama followed her closely, I need not tell you the end of this story!

#033. இடைப்பெண்​

அந்தண குரு ஒருவருக்குத் தவறாமல் பால்
அனுதினம் வழங்கும் ஒரு சிறு இடைப்பெண்;
ஆற்றைத் தாண்டி வரவேண்டி இருந்ததால்,
ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட நேரத்துக்கு வருவதே இல்லை!

ஒரு நாள் கூறினார் அந்த குரு அவளிடம்,
“சம்சாரக் கடலையே நம்மால் தாண்ட முடியும்;
ஒரு ஆற்றை உன்னால் தாண்ட முடியாதா?
சரசரவென்று நீ நீர்மேல் நடந்து வருவாய்!”

குருவிடம் முழு நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட பெண்
மறுநாள் முதல் விரைந்து வரலானாள்;
குரு கேட்டார் அப்பெண்ணிடம், “இப்போது
வருகின்றாயே நேரத்தோடு! எப்படி?” என்று.

“நீங்கள் சொன்னபடியே வருகின்றேன் ஐயா;
நீரைக் கடக்க நான் ஓடத்துக்கு நிற்பதில்லை!
ஓடத்துக்கு நின்றால் பொழுது ஆகிவிடும்;
நடந்து வருவதால் எனக்கு நேரம் மிச்சம்”

விக்கித்துப் போன குரு அவளிடம்,
“விரைந்து நடந்து காட்டு” என்று கூற,
விறு விறு என்று நீர் மேல் நடந்தாள்
வியத்தகு நம்பிக்கையுடன் அந்தப் பெண்.

திரும்பிப் பார்த்தவள் திகைத்து நின்றாள்.
தூக்கிய வஸ்திரத்துடன், நீரின் மேலே
நடக்க முடியாமல் நிற்கும் குருவினை.
நாவில் மட்டும் பகவான் நாமங்கள்!

“உங்கள் கடவுளின் மேல், குருவாகிய
உங்களுக்கே நம்பிக்கை இல்லையா?
நனைந்து விடுமோ வஸ்திரம் என்று
நினைந்து அஞ்சுகின்றீரே!” என்றாள்!

நினைத்தது நடக்கும், கேட்டது கிடைக்கும்,
மனத்தில் முழுதாக நம்பினால் மட்டுமே!
போதனை அனைவருக்கும் செய்யும் குரு
போதனை அன்று சிறுமியிடம் பெற்றார்.

#33. The milk vendor.

A famous guru bought milk from a young girl who lived across a river. Everyday she would come late, as she has to wait for the boatman to take her across the river.

The Guru asked her one day, “When people can cross the Ocean of SamsArA, why can’t you cross a mere river of water, just by walking on it?”

From the next day the girl started coming very early. The Guru asked her what was the reason. She said, “I do not wait for the boatman any more but I just walk across the river as told by you sir!”

Then they both set out to walk on the river. The girl turned back and found the Guru with his garment rolled up so that it would not get wet.

She wondered aloud whether he lacked the confidence in his own words and was afraid that his clothes would get wet?

On that day, the Guru learnt a valuable lesson from that poor, innocent and ignorant milk vending girl. “Faith can move mountains and work wonders!”

#034. எண்ணைக் கிண்ணம்

“தானே சிறந்த பக்தன்” என்று
தாளாத மமதை கொண்டுவிட்ட,
தேவரிஷி நாரதரின் கர்வத்தை
தேவன் பங்கம் செய்த கதை இது!

“தன்னுடைய ஒரு சிறந்த பக்தன்
மன்னுலகில் உண்டு” என்றான்;
மூவுலகும் வலம் வரும் தேவரின்
முனிவரிடம் தாமரைக் கண்ணன்.

“என்னிலும் சிறந்த பக்தனா?” என
எள்ளி நகையாடிய முனிவரிடம்,
“நீயே சென்று கண்டு வா” என்று
நீல வண்ணன் ஆணை இட்டான்.

அந்த மனிதனோ ஒரு விவசாயி.
எந்த நேரமும் வேலைகள் தான்!
உதயத்தில் ஒரே ஒரு முறையும்,
உறங்குமுன் ஒரே ஒரு முறையும்,

ஹரி நாமத்தைக் கூறி வந்தான்.
பரிதவித்து உருகிவிடவில்லை.
தன்னைப் போல் இடைவிடாது
தலைவனை எண்ணவுமில்லை!

“ஒரு நாள் பொழுது முழுவதிலும்
இரு முறையே ஹரி எனக் கூறும்
இவனா உங்கள் சிறந்த பக்தன்?”
இறைவனிடம் கேட்டார் முனிவர்.

சிந்திய புன்னகையுடன் கண்ணன்,
சிந்தாமல் அவர் கொண்டு செல்ல,
தந்தான் சிறு கிண்ணம் ஒன்றை,
முன்பே எண்ணையால் நிறைத்து!

உலகை வலம் வந்தவரிடம்,
“உண்மையாகவே என்னை நீர்
எத்தனை முறை நினைத்தீர்?
என்னிடம் கூற வேண்டும்” என,

“ஒரு முறை கூட எண்ணவில்லை;
ஒருமித்த என்னுடைய கவனம்
எண்ணைக் கிண்ணத்தை மட்டுமே
எண்ணியபடி இருந்ததால், இறைவா!”

“வேலை வந்தவுடனேயே உமக்கு
வேளை இல்லை என்னை எண்ண!
வேளை தவறாமல் அவன் இருமுறை
வேலைகளிடையே எண்ணுகின்றானே!”

நாரதரின் பெருமையும், கர்வமும்
நாணமாக மாறிவிடக் கூறினார்,
“சஞ்சாரி ஆகிய என்னை விடவும்
சம்சாரி ஆகிய அவனே சிறந்தவன்!”

#034. NAradha’s pride

NAradha became very proud of his incessant Bhakti towards Lord Vishnu. The Lord always punctures the bloated pride in everyone in his own subtle ways.

He told NAradha to visit one of His best devotees in the world. That man was an ordinary farmer. He would work all day long like a dog. He would utter the name of Hari just twice a day – once when he woke up from his sleep and again when he retired at night.

NAradha was amused that this man could be one of the best bhaktAs of Lord Vishnu. So
Lord handed over to NAradha a cup filled with oil to its brim and told him to go round the world once, without spilling even a drop of the oil.

When NAradha returned after a while, the Lord asked him,” How many times did you chant the name of Hari?” NAradA spoke the truth and said,” My mind was so much preoccupied with the cup filled with oil that I did not utter your name even once”

Now the Lord posed a question to him, “If you can’t remember me even once when you are entrusted with a tiny chore, how great must be that farmer – who in spite of living in the world with all the burden of samsArA – remembers me at least twice day?”

NAradha admitted,” Truly the ‘samsAri’ farmer was indeed a better devotee than the ‘thri lOka sanchAri’ NAradha – who was free roam around all the three worlds without any care or commitment.

#035. பார்வதி தேவி​

முருகனும் கண்ணனைப் போன்றே
குறும்புகள் பல செய்பவன் தானே?

ஒரு முறை சிறு பூனை ஒன்றின்
ஒரு கன்னத்தை அவன் கீறி விட,

ஓலமிட்டபடியே ஓடிச் சென்று
ஒளிந்து கொண்டது அந்தப் பூனை.

அன்னையின் கன்னத்திலும் அதே
அடையாளத்தைக் கண்ட முருகன்,

“என்ன ஆயிற்று என் அன்னையே?
என்னிடம் கூறுங்கள்” என்று மன்றாட,

“உன்னால்தான் ஆயிற்று இப்படி”
என்றாள் அகில உலக நாயகியும்!

“அன்னையை நான் கீறுவேனோ?
என்ன இது வீண் பழி என் மேல்?” என,

“இன்று நீ ஒரு சிறு பூனையின்
கன்னத்தைக் கீறவில்லையா?”

“அது எப்படித் தங்கள் மீது அம்மா?
எதுவுமே எனக்குப் புரியவில்லையே!”

“உலகின் பொருட்கள் அனைத்திலும்
உள் உறைந்து தாங்குவது நான் தான்!

எதை யார் எப்படி வருத்தினாலும்,
அது என்னையே வந்து சேரும்!”

இறை வேறு, பொருள் வேறு என்ற
குறைவான அறிவைப் போக்குவோம்!

பார்க்கும் பொருட்கள் அனைத்துமே
பார்வதி தேவியின் பல உருவங்களே!

#035. PArvathi DEvi.

Lord Muruga is as mischievous as Lord Krishna in His childhood. One day he
scratches the face of a cat. Later He finds the same nail marks on the face of His dear mother PArvathi DEvi.

He wonders who had scratched Her face and inflicted those nail marks. PArvathi DEvi says,” It was the mark of the scratch inflicted by you Muruga, on the cat in the morning.”

She says, “I dwell in every single thing seen in the cosmos. So the good or bad done to any living being, by anyone, anywhere, anytime, will invariably be transferred to me.”

Let us realize that the World and God are not two different entities. The entire world with everything in it is the manifestation of God.

#036. சிபாரிசு!

ஏழை அந்தணன் ஒருவன் வேலையைத் தேடி,
எல்லா இடங்களுக்கும் நடையாய் நடந்தான்;

“நாளை வா! நாளை வா!” என்று தினமும்
நடக்கச் செய்தார்களே அன்றி, ஒருவர் கூட

வேலை தருவதே இல்லை! மனமுடைந்து,
“வேளை இன்னமும் வரவில்லை!” என்றான்.

“கச்சேரியில் ஒரு உத்தியோகம் கிடைக்குமா?”
கச்சேரி மேனேஜரிடம் சிபாரிசு கிடைக்குமா?”

நல்ல நண்பன் ஒரு நல்ல வழி கூறினான்;
“நாடக நடிகை ரோஜாமணியிடம் சொல்!

நாளையே உனக்கு வேலை நிச்சயம்!”
நம்பி நடிகையிடம் உதவி கோரினான்.

ஆச்சரியம்! கச்சேரியிலிருந்து சேவகன்
அடுத்த நாள் காலையில் வந்துவிட்டான்!

“மிகவும் திறமைசாலி இவர்” என்றபடியே
மிக நல்ல வேலை அளித்தார் மேனேஜர்.

“ராஜாவானால் என்ன? மந்திரியானால் என்ன?
ரோஜாமணிகள் இருக்கும்வரை என்ன கவலை?”

#036. The recommendation.

A poor brahmin was unable to find any job. He was made to walk around from office to office, but without any success.

His best friend suggested that he should put a word to the famous drama actress

Roja Mani – who had several influential contacts. The man met Roja Mani and told her his sad story. She told him not to worry any more.

The very next day he got called from his home and was given a good job with a fat salary.

Kings, ministers and managers may come and go. But as long as we have kind hearted and influential women like Roja Mani, we don’t have to really worry.

#037. தன்னைப் போலவே!

உலகைத் துறந்து, மனத்தை அடக்கி,
உண்மை சமாதியில் இருந்தார் ஒருவர்.

களவு புரிந்து ஓடி வந்தவன், அவரைக்
களவாளி ஒருவன் என்றே நினைத்தான்.

“வீரர்கள் வருமுன் நான் ஓடிச் சென்று
வீட்டை அடைந்தால் பிழைப்பேனே!”

நொடியில் மறைந்தான் அக்களவாளி.
ஆடியபடியே வந்தான் மிடாக்குடியன்.

“வயிறு முட்டக் கள் குடித்து விட்டு
வழியில் கிடப்பதைப் பாருங்களேன்!

ஒரு பானைக் கள் நான் குடித்தாலும்
தெருவில் விழுந்து புரண்டதுண்டோ ?”

யார் வந்து போனதையும் அறியாமல்,
யார் சொன்ன சொல்லையும் கேளாமல்,

வசை மொழிகளையும் கூட உணராமல்,
அசையாமலேயே இருந்தார் அம்மனிதர்.

மகான் ஒருவர் வந்தார் அவ்வழியே.
மண்ணில் கிடக்கும் மா மனிதனைக்

கண்டதும் கீழே அமர்ந்து மிருதுவாக,
கால்களை வருடலானார் மகிழ்வுடன்!

“எத்தனை பெரிய மகானோ இவர்!
என் பாக்கியம் தொண்டு செய்வதே!”

தன்னைப் போலவே சக மனிதர்களை
உன்னுகின்றான் ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனும்.

#037. Similar to one’s own self.

Each man thinks of another man to be exactly similar to himself. It takes a great person to recognize another great person.

A man was in the state of deep samAdhi. A thief came running along and thought that the man was also a thief hiding from the police.

A drunkard came along and thought that that man had collapsed on the road, after getting heavily drunk.

A great man comes along and realized that the men was in deep samAdhi state and started serving him by massaging his feet gently.

#038. ஏழு ஜாடித் தங்கம்

அரசனுக்கு நாவிதனான அவன்
பரம சுகமாகவே வாழ்ந்து வந்தான்.

இல்லை எந்தக் குறையும், அரசன்
அள்ளித் தந்த தங்கக் காசுகளால்.

காட்டு வழியே செல்லும்போது, ஒரு
காட்டுக் குரல் அவனிடம் கேட்டது,

“வேண்டுமா உனக்கு ஏழு ஜாடித் தங்கம்?”
“வேண்டும்! வேண்டும்!” என்றான் அவன்.

மரத்தில் வாழ்ந்த யக்ஷனின் குரலே அது!
மரத்திலேயே அவன் மறைந்திருந்தான்.

“வீட்டுக்குப் போவாய்! நான் உன்னுடைய
வீட்டிலேயே வைத்து விட்டேன் அதை!”

ஓட்டமும் நடையுமாக, மூச்சிரைக்க
வீட்டை அடைந்தவன் அங்கு கண்டது

அழகிய வேலைப்பாடுகள் நிறைந்த
ஏழு ஜாடிகளில் தங்கக் காசுகள்!

ஆறு ஜாடிகள் நிரம்பி வழிந்தாலும்,
ஒரு ஜாடியில் குறைவாக இருந்தது.

மறு எண்ணம் இல்லாமல் அவன்
நிரப்ப முயன்றான் அந்த ஜாடியை.

தன் செல்வங்கள் அனைத்தையும்,
தன் முன் உள்ள ஜாடியில் இட்டான்.

வீட்டில் இருந்த பொருட்களை எல்லாம்
விற்றுத் தங்கமாக மாற்றி இட்டான்.

அரசனிடம் கெஞ்சியும், கூத்தாடியும்,
அதிகக் காசுகள் பெற்று இட்டான்.

பிச்சை எடுத்தும் கூட முயன்றான்;
இச்சை மட்டும் நிறைவேறவில்லை.

மாய ஜாடி நிறையவே இல்லை!
மன்னன் அவனிடம் கேட்டான்,

“முன்னம் நன்றாக இருந்தாய் நீ!
இன்னம் கூலி அதிகம் பெற்றாலும்,

சின்னத்தனம் ஏன் சொல்? உனக்கு
மின்னும் ஏழு ஜாடிகள் கிடைத்தா?”

திடுக்கிட்ட நாவிதனிடம், அரசன்
வெடுக்கென்று சொன்னான் இதை,

“ஒரு தங்கக் காசு கூட உன்னால்
விரும்பிச் செலவு செய்ய முடியாது!

ஒரு நாளும் அந்த மாய ஜாடியை
ஒருவராலும் நிரப்பவே முடியாது!

அது இருந்தாலே உன் குடும்பம்
அகதி ஆகிவிடும் திருப்பிக் கொடு!”

காட்டையடைந்து யக்ஷனிடம் சொன்னான்,
“மீட்டுக்கொள் உன் ஏழு தாங்க ஜாடிகளை;

வீட்டை விட்டுப் போனாலே போதும்;
மாட்டி விட்டு வேடிக்கை வேண்டாம்!”

“நல்லது அப்படியே” என்றான் யக்ஷன்.
நல்ல காலம் பிறக்கும் என்று நம்பி,

வீட்டை அடைந்தால் ஜாடிகளை அவன்
போட்டிருந்த செல்வத்துடனே காணோம்!

புது வெள்ளம் பழைய வெள்ளத்தை அடித்துப்
போவதுபோல எல்லாமே மறைந்து விட்டன!

பேராசை பெரு நஷ்டம் ஆனதால்,
நிராசை மிகவும் அடைந்தான்.

அனைத்தையும் இழந்து நின்றதால்,
களைத்துப் போய்விட்டான் அவன்.

#038. SEVEN POTS OF GOLD.

A king’s barber was very happy and well to do. While walking through a forest he heard the voice of a yakshA offering to present him with seven pots of gold.

The barber accepted the offer of the yakshA and was overwhelmed to find the seven pots of gold coins in his house. Six pots were full but the seventh was only half full. He decided to fill it up at any cost.

He sold all his properties and jewels, bought gold coins and put them in the jar. He did everything he could think of, including begging, but he could not fill the seventh jar.

The king noticed the change in the barber’s behavior and asked him whether he had accepted seven pots of gold from a yakshA.

The barber was surprised by the king’s question. The king advised him to return the jars as those gold coins could never be spent by any one and will ruin the house where they are placed.

The barber told the yakshA to take back his pots of gold. The seven pots disappeared as magically as they had arrived. But they disappeared along with all the gold coins deposited by the barber.

He is left penniless, defeated and tired because of his utter greed! He failed to appreciate the fact that six jars were full and the seventh was half full of gold coins. Instead he aimed at filling the seven jar in vain.

#039. வணங்கா முடிகள்​

முன்பு சில கோவில்களின் அர்ச்சகர்கள்,
திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ளாது இருந்தனர்;

அன்புடன் அரசன் அவர்களை அழைத்தாலும்,
வரும்படி அவனையே அவர்கள் பணிப்பார்கள்.

ஆத்ம பலம் மிகுந்திருந்ததால், அவர்கள்
அஞ்சவில்லை அரசனின் ஆணைகளுக்கு.

அரசனும் வேண்டும்போது எல்லாம்
பரம பணிவுடன் தானே சென்று வந்தான்.

கல்யாணம் அவர்கள் செய்து கொண்டதும்,
கதை தலை கீழாய் மாறிவிட்டது அங்கே!

முண்டி அடித்துக் கொண்டு அவர்கள்
முன் நிற்பார், அரசனைக் காண வேண்டி.

குடும்பம் பெருகிவிடவே, அவர்களின்
வரும்படி போதவில்லை போலும்.

கொடுக்கும் பிரசாதங்களுக்கு அரசனிடம்
கொடைகள் கேட்டாயினும் பெறலாயினர்.

‘வணங்கா முடிகள்’ முழுவதுமாக மாறி,
‘வணங்கும் முடிகள்’ ஆன விந்தையை

எண்ணி எண்ணி வியந்து சிரித்தான்,
மண்ணை ஆளும் சிறந்த மகாராஜன்.

#039. Atma Balam

When certain temple priests remained as bachelors they refused to go to the palace to meet the King. They always made the king come to them, for anything he or they might need. They were rich in their Atma Balam (Spiritual Strength) and so the King did not mind visiting them.

But once they got married and begot children, they started making a beeline to the palace for any puny reason – so that they will get extra DhakshinA (gift of money) from the king to meet their ever growing expenditure.

The King felt amused to watch them, wondering how much the householders (gruhasthas) differed from the unwed bachelors (brahmachAris)!

#040. மரமும், நீரும்

கானகத்தில் உள்ள ஆசிரமத்திலிருந்து
கன்னி முயற்சியாக பிக்ஷை வாங்கிவரச்
சென்றான் கிராமத்துக்கு, இள வயதுப்
பெண்களைக் கண்டறியாத பிரம்மச்சாரி.

முதலில் சென்ற சில வீடுகளில், பிக்ஷை
முதியவர்களும், ஆண்களும் இட்டனர்.
ஒரு வீட்டில் ஒரு அழகிய இளம் சிறுமி
அருளோடு பிக்ஷை அளிக்க வருகையில்,

அவள் முன்னழகைக் கண்டு கேட்டான்,
“அவளுக்கு ஏன் சிரங்குகள் உள்ளன?”
அருகிலிருந்த ஒரு மூதாட்டி கூறினாள்,
“மருவுமல்ல, சிரங்குமல்ல அவைகள்!

மணமாகிய பின் பிறக்கும் குழந்தைக்கு
உணவளிக்கவே அமைக்கப்பட்டன இவை.”
மின்னல் தாக்கியது போல உணர்ந்தவன்,
சொன்னான் அனைவரையும் நோக்கி.

“என்றோ பிறக்கப் போகும் குழந்தைக்கும்
இன்றே உணவுக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ள
அன்னை பராசக்தி என்னையும் காப்பாள்;
இன்று முதல் நான் பிக்ஷைக்கு செல்லேன்!”

மரத்தை நட்டவன் தண்ணீர் ஊற்றுவான்.
தரமாட்டான் என்று ஏன் எண்ண வேண்டும்?
கல்லினுள் தேரைக்கும், கருவினுள் குழவிக்கும்
சொல்லுமுன் தருபவன் நம்மையும் காப்பான்.

#040. Who waters the Trees?

A young brahmachAri went for bikshA (alms) from a remote area in a forest to a village for the very first time in his life. He had not seen a women so far.

He received bikshA from boys and menfolk in the village until he reached a house in which a pretty young girl offered him bikshA. He saw a young woman for the very first time in his life.

He learned on questioning that her breasts were given to her by God to feed her babies – which she will bear some time in the future, after getting married to a man.

He jumped up startled as that thought and the foresight of the merciful God – asif he had received an electric shock.

He vowed that the same Goddess ParAshakthi, who makes arrangements for food for even the unborn babies, would also feed him and that he would never again beg for food.

God feeds the toads hiding in the crack and crevices of rocks. God waters the trees growing in wilderness. The same God would also take care of the needs of everyone of us.

#041. மாயா விலாசம்

நர நாராயணர்களாக அவதரித்த இறைவன்,
வரங்கள் பலவற்றைத் தர விரும்பினாலும்,
இறைவனின் மாயா விலாசத்தை காணவே,
மறை முனிவர் மார்க்கண்டேயர் விழைந்தார்.

வீசும் காற்றாலும், பெய்யும் மழையாலும்,
வாசம் செய்து வந்த உலகமே மூழ்கிவிட்டது!
எங்கு நோக்கினும் சுழித்து ஓடும் நீர் தான்;
எங்குமே எதுவுமே காணப்படவில்லை!

பத்துக் கோடி ஆண்டுகள் தனிமையிலே
ஒற்றையாகச் சுழன்றவர் பிறகு கண்டார்,
ஆல் இலை மேல் ஒரு அழகிய குழந்தையை;
கால் விரலை வாயில் இட்டுச் சுவைப்பவனை!

தழுவ விரும்பி அதன் அருகே சென்றவரை,
முழுதுமாக கவர்ந்தது உள் மூச்சுக் காற்று.
முழு உலகமும் கண்டார் குழந்தையினுள்!
முழுதுமாய் வெளி வந்தார் வெளி மூச்சில்.

மீண்டும் குழந்தையைத் தழுவ முயன்றவர்,
மீண்டும் தன் ஆசிரமத்திலேயே இருந்தார்!
காற்று, வெள்ளம், மேகம், மழை, சுழல்கள்,
பார்த்த எல்லாம் மாயா விலாசம் அல்லவா?

மாயையின் சக்தியை வெல்வது கடினம்.
மாலவன் பூரண அருள் இருந்தால் அன்றி
மாயையை வெல்லவே முடியாது என்று
மாதவனே தன் கீதையில் உரைக்கின்றான்!

#041. MAYA VILASAM.

God wanted to confer many boons on MArkaNdEya maharishi but he wanted to witness Lord’s mAyA vilAsam (power of delusion) more than anything else.

There came a torrential rain resulting in a heavy flood. MArkaNdEya maharishi alone survived the swirling flood which had destroyed the entire world. He floated on the water for one hundred million years – all by himself!

He saw a beautiful baby floating on a Bunyan leaf, at a distance, in the water. He wanted to embrace the divine baby. He went near it and got drawn into the child’s body by the inhalation of the child.

He entered the baby’s body along with the flow of air and saw the whole creation inside the baby. He was thrown out by the outgoing breath. Again he wanted to embrace the baby and went near it.

At that time he found himself in his ashram safe and dry as he was before. If such is the power of mAyA even on maharishis who were enlightened, what would it be on us the mere mortals – puny, powerless and completely ignorant?

#042. பக்திப் பரவசம்

சமாதியில் இருந்த கௌராங்க சுவாமிகள்
சமுத்திரத்தில் தவறி விழுந்துவிட்டபோது,
செம்படவர்களில் சிலர் வலை ஒன்றை வீசி,
சுவாமிகளைக் காப்பற்றினர் நீரிலிருந்து.

சுவாமிகளைக் காப்பாற்றும்போது, சிறிது
சரீர சம்பந்தம் அவர்களுக்கும் ஏற்படவே,
உன்மத்தம் தலைக்கு ஏறியவர்கள் போல
உலவத் தொடங்கிவிட்டனர், பரவசத்துடன்.

“ஹரி” நாமத்தைப் பாடிக்கொண்டும் மேலும்
“ஹரி ஹரி” என்று ஆடிக்கொண்டு திரிபவரை,
சரி செய்ய முயன்றும், முடியாமல் போகவே,
திரிபவரின் உறவினர்கள், சுவாமிகளிடமே

வந்து சரணடைந்தனர், ஒவ்வொருவராக!
பந்துக்களின் துயரைக் கண்டவர் கூறினார்,
“சரி செய்வதற்கு ஒரு வழிதான் உண்டு!
புரோஹிதர் வீட்டுச் சோற்றை ஊட்டுங்கள்.”

என்ன அதிசயம் இது! என்ன மாயம் இது!
அன்னத்தை வாயில் இட்டவுடனேயே,
பரவச நிலை நீங்கிய அச்செம்படவர்கள்,
பழையபடியே மாறி விட்டனர், பாருங்கள்!

பரவசம் அடையத் தேவை ஒரு
உத்தம பக்தரின் சரீர சம்பந்தம்.
பரவசம் நீங்கவோ, புரோஹிதர்
பத்தினி அளித்த அன்னமே போதும்!

#042. The ecstacy of devotion

One Saint named Gowranga accidentally fell into the sea when he was in deep samAdhi state (oneness with God). He was saved by the fishermen who threw a net and dragged him out of water to safety.

These fishermen later started to sing and dance with ecstasy and devotion – due to their brief bodycontact with the saint, while saving him from the sea.

Their relatives tried every means known to them to bring those men back to normalcy- but without any success.

They went back to Gowranga for advice. He told them to feed those dancing men with the food brought from the house of a prOhith (a priest).

Those men were brought back to normalcy when they were fed with the food cooked by the wives of the prOhiths.

For gaining ecstasy, one needs the bodycontact of a holy man. To regain normalcy he had to merely eat the food cooked in the house of a prOhith. Such was the divinity and supremacy of a prOhith!

#043. வெள்ளாட்டுக் குட்டி

ஆனி மாதத்தில் அன்னையின் அருகே,
அச்சம் என்பதே இன்றி, மிக உல்லாசமாகத்

துள்ளி விளையாடிய வெள்ளாட்டுக் குட்டி,
தள்ளி நின்ற அன்னையிடம் சொன்னது.

“ராசலீலை புஷ்பப் பண்டிகையின் போது,
ராச புஷ்பங்களை நான் நிறைய உண்பேன்!”

”கண்ணே! அது நிறைவேறுமா – உந்தன்
எண்ணம் போல என்று நான் அறியேன்!

ராசலீலைக்கு முன்னரே நமக்கு
ராசி இல்லாத காலம் தொடங்கும்!

புரட்டாசி, ஐப்பசி மாதங்களில் நம்மை
துர்கா பூஜையில் பலி இட்டுவிடலாம்.

தப்பியே பிழைத்தாலும் அடுத்து வரும்,
தப்ப முடியாத அந்த ஜகதாத்ரி பூஜை.

ஆடுகள் அனைத்தையுமே பலிகொள்ளும்
அதிலும் ஒருவேளை தப்பிப் பிழைத்தால்,

ராஸ புஷ்பப் பண்டிகையை நாம்,
ரசமாகக் கொண்டாடலாம் கண்ணே!”

“நித்ய கண்டம், பூரண ஆயுசு” என்பர்!
நினைவில் கொள்வோம் இவ்வுண்மையை!

#043. A little lamb

A little lamb was hopping carefree near its mother and is making plans as to how it would eat the various flowers during the RAsa Pushpam festival.

Its mother wished that it should become a reality but she could never be very sure. She knew that all the lambs would be sacrificed as offerings to Durga DEvi, during DasarA.

She elaborated on the various perils awaiting them during the DasarA festivals. If by God’s grace they are left alive and did not get sacrificed either in DurgA poojA or in the JagadhAthri festival, they could eat as much flowers as they wanted, during the rAsa pushpam festival!

It is better to remember the old and wise adage ‘Nithya kaNdam Poorna Ayusu’ meaning “Life is full of perils and yet one may live a long life”.

#044. பரிஹாரம்

அழகிய நந்தவனத்தை உருவாக்கி,
அதைச் செழிப்பாக வளர்த்தான்;
அந்தணன் ஒருவன், தன் வேலை
ஆட்களின் கடின உழைப்பினாலே.

ஏமாந்த நேரம் தோட்டதினுள்ளே
புகுந்து விட்ட கறவைப் பசு ஒன்று,
மேய்ந்து சர்வ நாசமாக்கி விட்டது
பூந்தோட்டம் மொத்தத்தையுமே!

கோபத்தில் கண் மண் தெரியாமல்
கோரமாக அந்தணன் அடித்ததனால்,
விழுந்து சுருண்டு தன் இன்னுயிரை
இழந்து விட்டது அந்தப் பசு பாவம்!

பசுவைக் கொன்ற பாவம் தன் மேல்
படர்ந்த போதிலும் அந்த அந்தணன்,
பசுவைக் கொன்றது தன் கையே என்றும்,
கையின் தேவதை இந்திரனே என்றும்,

மொத்தப் பழியையும், பாவத்தையும்,
தத்தம் செய்து விட்டான் இந்திரனுக்கு.
தாத்தா வேடம் அணிந்து வந்த இந்திரன்
தள்ளாடியபடியே அவனிடம் சென்றான்.

” மிகவும் அழகிய பூந்தோட்டம்” என
தள்ளாடும் தாத்தா புகழவே, அந்தணன்
“மிகவும் கடின முயற்சியின் பரிசு” எனத்
தன்னைத் தானே மெச்சிக் கொண்டான்.

“மரங்களும், செடிகளும்கூட அழகான
வரிசைகளில் அமைந்துள்ளனவே?”
“மரங்கள், செடிகளின் வரிசையும் கூட
வரை வகுத்துத் தந்தது நான் தானே”

‘பாதைகளும் நூல் பிடித்தாற்போல
பார்க்கவே அருமையாக உள்ளனவே!”
“பாதைகளும் கூட என் திட்டமே!” எனப்
பரவசமாகச் சொன்னான் அந்தணன்.

“வேறு ஆட்கள் செய்தவற்றுக்கெல்லாம்
பேரும் புகழும் நீ ஏற்றுக் கொள்வாய்.
பசுவைக் கொன்று விட்ட பழி மட்டும்
பாவம் அந்த இந்திரனையே சாருமா?”

வெட்கித் தலை குனிந்த அந்தணன்
வெட்டிப் பேச்சுக்களை விட்டு விட்டு,
பசுவைக் கொன்ற தன் தோஷத்துக்குப்
பரிஹாரம் ஒன்றைத் தேட முயன்றான்.

#044. ParihAram (The Remedy )

A brahmin owned a beautiful garden and took the credit for maintaining it – even though all the hard word was done by his gardeners.

He killed a cow in mad anger when it ruined his garden but he shifts the blame to Indra, who is the God of man’s hands. Indra came disguised as an old man and made the brahmin realize his folly.

He told the brahmin, “You take the credit for maintaining the garden, for planting all the trees in beautiful rows and for making beautiful paths to walk through in the garden – even though all these hard jobs have been done by the gardeners.

You have killed a cow with your own hands but you want to shift the burden of the sin to Indra’s shoulders. Why?”

The brahmin realized his folly, hung his head in shame and tried to find parihAram to get out of the sin he had committed – even though killing the cow was purely unintentional.

#045. ஈஸ்வரன்

“உலகில் உள்ள பொருட்கள் அனைத்துமே
உண்மையில் ஈஸ்வரனின் ஸ்வரூபங்களே!”
உபதேசித்தார் பெரும் குரு நாதர் ஒருவர்;
உபதேசம் பெற்றான் அவருடைய சீடன்.

எல்லோரும் ஈஸ்வரர்களே என்பதால்
எல்லையில்லா மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவன்
செல்லும்போது எதிரே வந்தான் ஒரு
பொல்லாத யானை மேல் அமர்ந்த பாகன்.

“விலகுங்கள்! விலகுங்கள்!” என்று பாகன்
விலாப் புடைக்கக் கத்திய போதிலும்;
விலகவில்லை கொஞ்சமும் அந்தச் சீடன்
விரும்பி யானையின் அருகிலேயே வந்தான்!

“நானும் ஈஸ்வரன், யானையும் ஈஸ்வரன்,
நான் ஏன் அஞ்சிப் பாதை விலக வேண்டும்?”
நடந்து வந்த யானை துதிக்கையால் தூக்கி.
நாலு வட்டங்கள் சுழற்றி வீசிச் சென்றது!

நல்ல வேளையாக உயிர் போகவில்லை!
நல்ல காயங்களுடனே தப்பிவிட்டான்.
நடந்ததைத் தன் குருவிடம் சொல்லவே,
நகைக்கலானார் அவர் விழுந்து விழுந்து!

“யானையும் ஈஸ்வரன் தான்! அதுவும் சரி.
நீயும் ஈஸ்வரன்தான் ஒப்புக் கொள்கின்றேன்.
யானையின் மேல் அமர்ந்த இன்னொரு ஈஸ்வரன்
நீங்கிச் செல்லும்படிச் சொன்னது கேட்கவில்லையா ?”

சொற்களின் பொருளை அறிவதால் மட்டும்
சொல்லப்பட்ட கருத்துக்கள் புரிந்து விடாது.
கருத்தினைப் புரிந்து கொண்டால் மட்டுமே
கற்றதன் பயன் நமக்குத் தப்பாது கிடைக்கும்.

#045. All are Eshwars!

A man learned from his Guru that all the things we see are forms of God. He became very happy that he as well as all the others were forms of Gods or all were Eshwars.

While returning home, he came across an angry elephant. The mahout warned him to keep away but the man would not listen to him. He thinks to himself, “I am an Eshwar and the elephant is another Eshwar. Why would one Eshwar harm another Eshwar?”

Foolishly he went near the elephant, ignoring the warnings of the mahout. He got lifted, swirled round and thrown away by the angry elephant.

He escaped with many injuries and became very angry. His Guru told him that even though he and the elephant were both Eshwars, so was the mahout who warned everyone to keep away from the angry elephant!

We should not take the words at their face value, but should realize the real message being conveyed by those words.

#046. கனியாத பக்தி

“ஹரியும் சிவனும் ஒண்ணு ; இதை
அறியாதவன் வாயில் மண்ணு!”
என்று கூறுவார் முன்னோர்கள்;
என்றாலும் சிலர் கேட்பதில்லை.

கனியாத பக்தி உடைய ஒருவன்,
தனியாக சிவபிரானை மட்டுமே
கனிவோடு தொழுது வந்ததான்;
பணியான் வேறொரு கடவுளை.

ஒரு நாள் சிவனே நேரில் தோன்றி
“ஒன்றே தெய்வம் என்றறியாயோ?”
என்ற போதிலும் மீண்டும் அவன்
எந்தக் கடவுளையும் வணங்கவில்லை.

சங்கர நாராயணனாய் வந்தபோதும்,
சங்கரனை மட்டுமே வணங்கினான்;
ஹரியை விடுத்து விட்டான் அவன்;
ஹரனாலும் மாற்ற முடியவில்லை.

தீவிர பக்தியும், மாறாத வெறுப்பும்,
தூண்டிவிட்டது மற்றவர்களையும்!
“விஷ்ணு! விஷ்ணு!” என்ற நாமத்தை
வெறுப்பேற்ற வேண்டிக் கூறலாயினர்.

காதில் அப்பெயர் விழாமல் இருக்க,
காதில் இரண்டு மணிகளை அணிந்து,
காதுகளை ஆட்டிச் சப்தம் செய்தவன்,
கண்டா கர்ணன் எனப் பெயர் பெற்றான்.

கண்டா கர்ணனைப் போன்றே பல
கண்மூடித்தனமான வேறு பக்தர்களும்
இறைவனிடம் காட்டும் வினோத பக்தியில்,
வெறுப்பே விருப்பையும்விட அதிகம்!

#046. Unripe Devotion.

A man worshiped only Lord Siva and hated the very name of Lord VishnU. Lord SivA Himself told the man that both He and Hari are one and the same God. The man does not listen even to those words spoken by Lord Siva.

Then Lord Siva appeared as Sankara nArAyaNan. Even then the man worshiped only the half that was SankarA and ignored the half that was NArAyanA.

His strange bhakti amused everyone. Just to irritate him people kept calling out the name of VishnU. He wore two bells on his ears and keeps ringing them so that he won’t hear the name of VishnU. His name now gets changed to GantA KarNan.

There are many people in whose devotion (bhakthi), hatred predominates the love for God. This kind of weird bhakthi is the unripe bhakti!

#047. யார் பொய்யன்?

கிணற்றிலேயே பிறந்து அந்தக்
கிணற்றிலேயே வாழ்ந்து வந்தது,
வெளியேறி ஒரு முறையேனும்
வெளி உலகைக் காணாத தவளை.

ஒரு நாள் பெய்த பெரு மழையில்,
பெருகிய வெள்ளத்துடன் வந்து
விழுந்தது கிணற்றில், வெளியே
வெகுநாள் வாழ்ந்த வேறு தவளை.

அறிமுகம் நன்றாக முடிந்தபின்,
அதிசய வெளி உலகைப் பற்றி
அளக்கலானது புதுத் தவளை.
ஆச்சரியப்பட்ட கிணற்றுத் தவளை,

“உலகம் எவ்வளவு பெரியது?” என
உற்சாகத்தோடு அதைக் கேட்டது.
முன்னங்கால்களை நன்கு விரித்து
“இவ்வளவு பெரியதா?” என்றது.

“இதையும் விடப் பெரியது!” என,
இங்கிருந்து அங்கு தாவிவிட்டு,
“இவ்வளவு பெரியதா?” என்றது.
“இன்னும் மிகப் பெரியது” எனவே,

“இதைவிடப் பெரியதாக ஏதும்
இருக்கவே முடியாது; அறிவேன்!
பொய் சொல்லுகின்றாய் நீ;
போய் விடு இங்கிருந்து, உடனே”

விரிந்த நோக்கம் இல்லாதவனும்கூட,
விவரமில்லா இந்தத் தவளை போன்றே,
தனக்குத் தெரியாததே இல்லையெனத்
தம்பட்டம் அடித்துக் கொள்கின்றான்!

#047. Who is the liar?

The story is a conversation between the two frogs, one of which had lived in a well all his life and the other which had lived in a big lake.

During a heavy rain a frog which had lived in a big lake and had seen the wide world got washed into a well.

The frog dwelling in the well wanted to know where he had come from. The new frog described the lake he had lived in and its surrounding areas.

The frog in the well asked how big was the world. It opened up both its front legs and asked whether the world was that big?

Then it jumped from one side of the well to the other and asked whether the world was that big. When the new frog said that the world was much bigger than he could describe or show inside this small well, the frog in the well got annoyed and branded the other frog as a liar!

Even among people, those who imagine that they know everything – when actually they don’t – tell the others that they are all liars!

#048. சரணாகதி

ஒரு சிறந்த இறை பக்தனுக்கும்,
ஒரு சலவைத் தொழிலாளிக்கும்

வலுத்து விட்ட வாக்குவாதம்
வம்புச் சண்டையில் முடியவே;

துவைக்கலானான் அப்பக்தனையும்
துணிகளைப் போலவே வண்ணான்.

“கண்ணா! கண்ணா!” என்று பக்தன்
கதறுவது கேட்டதும் எழுந்தான்,

ஒய்யாரமாக வைகுண்டத்திலே
ஓய்வு எடுத்துக்கொண்டிருந்தவன்.

நான்கடிகள் நடந்து சென்றவன்,
மீண்டும் வந்து அமர்ந்துவிடவே,

நாயகனிடம் விவரம் கேட்டாள்,
நானிலம் வணங்கும் இலக்குமி.

“நானே செல்ல வேண்டியதில்லை;
தானே திருப்பி அடிக்கத் துணிந்தவன்,

தன்னையே காத்துக் கொள்வான்;
என்னை எதிர்பார்க்க மாட்டான்!”

சரணாகதியும் பலன்கள் தரும்
பூரணமாக இருந்தால் மட்டுமே.

போராடியவரை பாஞ்சாலிக்குமே
புடவைகள் தரவில்லையே கண்ணன்!

#048. Total Surrender

A quarrel broke out between a devotee of Lord Krishna and a washerman. At first it started as a verbal fight. But very soon it became a fist fight. Naturally the washerman was better equipped for the exchange of blows than the devotee of Krishna

The devotee called out for Krishna’s help. God was about to go and help him, but He saw that his devotee had started returning the blows to the washerman.

God sat back saying to Lakshmi dEvi that His devotee could take care of himself now. God does not come to help us – unless we surrender totally.

Even to PAnchAli, when she was disrobed by DuschAsanan in the durbar of the wicked DhuryOdhanan, Krishna did not give a sari – until she stopped struggling and surrendered to Him totally.

#049. சிறு தவளை

வனவாசம் செய்யும்போது ராமன்,
தனது தாகத்தைத் தணிக்கவேண்டி;

அம்பையும், வில்லையும் மண்ணில்
ஆடாமல் பதித்துவிட்டுச் சென்றான்.

வந்து பார்க்கையில், மண்ணில்
சிந்தும் ரத்தத்தில் சிறு தவளை.

வில் ஊடுருவியதால் அதற்கு
விளைந்து விட்டது விபரீதம்!

“ஒரு குரல் கொடுத்திருந்தால்
ஒரு கொலை நிகழ்ந்திராதே!”

மறுகிய மனத்துடன் ராமன்,
மரணம் தழுவும் தவளையிடம்

மனம் வருந்திக் கேட்கவே,
மறுமொழி பகர்ந்தது அது.

“யார் எனக்குத் தீங்கு செய்தாலும்
யாரை நான் அழைப்பேனோ,

அவனே எனக்குத் தீங்கிழைத்தால்,
யாரிடம் சொல்வேன் நான்?”

தெய்வம் உதவிடும் நமக்கு,
மற்றவர் தொல்லை செய்தால்!

தெய்வமே தொல்லை செய்தால்,
மற்று எவர் உதவுவார் நமக்கு?

#049. A Tiny Frog

During His vanavAsam ( while living in the forest) RAma planted his bow on the ground – while going for a drink of water. The tip of the bow pierced through a frog by RAma’s oversight.

When RAmA returned, He found the tiny frog dripping blood and in severe pain. He felt very sad and asked the frog,” Why didn’t you croak to let me know of your presence? This accident could have been easily averted then!”

The frog replied in a feeble voice,” When the others harm me, I call out your name. When you yourself harm me, whose name can I call out?”

When the world punishes us, we can seek asylum in the lotus feet of the Lord.
When the Lord himself punishes us, who can save us?

“When God is with us, no one can harm us.
When God is against us, no one can save us!”

#050. எளியவன்!​

ஊரையே தன் ஆட்சிக்குள் கொண்ட
ஊர்ப் பெரியவரிடம் பணி புரிந்தான்,

அன்பும், அடக்கமும் கொண்டிருந்த
தன்மையுள்ள வேலையாள் ஒருவன்.

நன்கு விளைந்த இலந்தைப் பழங்கள்,
நான்கு, ஐந்து கிடைத்திடவே, அதைத்

தானே உண்ணாமல் துணியில் சுற்றித்
தன் எஜமானனிடம் எடுத்துச் சென்றான்.

வாயில் சிந்தும் சிறு புன்னகையுடனும்,
கையில் ஒரு பொதியுடனும் கண்டதும்,

அருகில் அழைத்து விசாரித்தவரிடம்,
பெருமையுடன் அளித்தான் பழங்களை.

விரும்பி உண்ணும் எஜமானைப் போலவே
விளங்குபவர் நம் இறைவனும் அறிவீர்!

எளியவருக்கு அவன் மிகவும் எளியவன்!
வலியவருக்கு அவன் மிகவும் வலியவன்!

கள்ளம் இல்லா உள்ளமே அவனுக்கு
வெள்ளையான வெண்ணையாகும்!

#050. Our petty offerings

A humble and honest man worked under a rich and powerful master – who had control over his whole village.

One day the man-servant got some fresh bear fruits (elandham pazham) which he did not taste, as he wanted to offer them to his master.

He had a mixed feeling since his master was a man of great importance, whether he would make fun of him for offering of such cheap fruits.

Contrary to his fears, the master is very pleased with him and enjoyed eating the fruits he had offered.

God, who is and who has everything we see in the universe, also feels pleased with us in the same way, with our petty and humble offerings.

#051. யார் சிறந்தவர் ?

கரிய இருட்டில் பறக்கும் மின்மினி,
கர்வத்துடன் கூறியது,” என்னைப் போல
உலகுக்கு, ஒளி கொடுப்பவர் யாருள்ளார்?
உலகம் என்ன ஆகும் நான் இல்லாவிடில்?”

விண்ணில் தோன்றிய தாரகைகள்,
விழுந்து விழுந்து நகைக்கலாயின;
“எங்கள் ஒளியின் முன் நீ நிச்சயம்
மங்கி நிற்பாய்! ஏன் வீண் பெருமை?”

இப்போது நகைத்தது வானத்து நிலா;
“இங்கே நான் வந்த பின்னர் உங்களை
எங்கே எங்கே எனத் தேட வேண்டும்!
என்று தான் உணர்வீர் உண்மையினை?”

உதித்தான் செங்கதிரவன் கீழ் வானத்தில்,
மிதித்தான் நிலவின் மங்கிய ஒளியினை,
பெருமைகள் பேசிய மின்மினி, தாரகை,
போன இடம் எதுவோ தெரியவில்லை!

உள்ளது என்னிடம் இளமையும், செல்வமும்,
அழகும் என்று அலட்டிக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம்!
உள்ளார் உலகில் பலர், உன்னைவிடவும்
அழகு, இளமை, செல்வம் அதிகம் உள்ளவர்!

#051. “WHO IS THE BEST?”

In a pitch dark night, the firefly exclaimed in self-praise,” Who is there to provide light for the world immersed in darkness? What will happen to the world, but for my presence here?”

The twinkling stars laughed at the firefly and said,” In our presence you will hardly be noticed! What make you feel so proud?”

Now it was the turn of the silver moon to laugh at the twinkling stars. “Now that I have risen, you will all become invisible! No need to boast about yourselves and feel so proud.”

The red Sun rose in the east. His bright golden rays replaced the dull light of the moon. There was no trace of the boasting firefly and the proud twinkling stars!

Never feel proud about your youth, wealth and beauty! There are many people in the world who are more beautiful, richer and more youthful than you!
