சக்தி சக்தி சக்தீ சக்தீ சக்தி சக்தி என்றோது,
சக்தி சக்தி சக்தீ என்பார் – சாகார் என்றே நின்றோது.

சக்தி சக்தி என்றே வாழ்தல் – சால்பாம் நம்மைச் சார்ந்தீரே!
சக்தி சக்தி என்றீ ராகில் – சாகா உண்மை சேர்ந்தீரே!

சக்தி சக்தி என்றால் சக்தி – தானே சேரும் கண்டீரே!
சக்தி சக்தி என்றால் வெற்றி – தானே நேரும் கண்டீரே!

சக்தி சக்தி என்றே செய்தால் – தானே செய்கை நேராகும்,

போற்றி உலகொரு மூன்றையும் புணர்ப்பாய்!
மாற்றுவாய், துடைப்பாய், வளர்ப்பாய், காப்பாய்!
கனியிலே சுவையும், காற்றிலே இயக்கமும்
கலந்தாற் போலநீ, அனைத்திலும் கலந்தாய்,
உலகெலாந் தானாய் ஒளிர்வாய், போற்றி!

அன்னை போற்றி! அமுதமே போற்றி!
புதியதிற் புதுமையாய், முதியதில் முதுமையாய்
உயிரிலே உயிராய் இறப்பிலும் உயிராய்,

7#23a. தன்னையும் விற்றான்!

எச்சரித்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் அரிச்சந்திரனை.
எடுத்துக் கொண்டு போனார் கொடுத்த பொன்னை.

"அஸ்தமனத்துக்கு முன்னால் என்னை விலைக்கு வாங்க
இஷ்டப் படுபவர்கள் என்னிடம் வரலாம்!" எனக் கூவினான்.

சண்டாளப் புலையன் ஒருவன் வந்தான் உடனேயே.
தண்டனைக்கு அரசனான தர்ம ராஜனே அப்புலையன்!

கறுத்த பெரிய வயிறு, நீண்டு தொங்கும் பெரிய மீசை;
பருத்த மேனியில் ரோமங்கள், விரவிய புலால் நாற்றம்;

"என்ன விலை கூறுகின்றாய் அப்பனே உனக்கு நீயே?"எனக்
கண்களை உருட்டி கர்ணகடூரமாகக் கேட்டான் புலையன்.

"எனக்கு வேலை சண்டாளனாக ஒரு சுடுகாட்டில்!
உன் வேலை பிணங்களின் ஆடையை அவிழ்ப்பது."என

"உத்தமனை உத்தமனும், மத்திமனை மத்திமனும்,
அதமனை அதமனும் வாங்குவதில் தவறில்லை.

க்ஷத்திரியனை வாங்க முடியாது சண்டாளனால்.
க்ஷத்திரியனை வாங்க முடியும் பிராமணனால்"என

"முதலிலேயே ஏன் கூறவில்லை உன் விதிகளை?
கதறினாய் 'வாங்க எவரேனும் உள்ளார்களா' என!

ஜாதி மதம் எதற்கு விலை பேசி வாங்குவதற்கு?
போதிய பணம் இருந்தால் மட்டும் போதாதா?

சத்தியம் காத்திடும் எண்ணம் இருந்தால் போதும்.
நிச்சயமாகத் தேவையில்லை ஜாதி மத பேதங்கள்.

அசத்தியம் பேசி அதமனாக நரகம் செல்வதிலும்,
சத்தியம் பேசி இப்பணி புரிவதில் தாழ்வில்லை."

7#23. He sold himself too!

Viswaamitra warned Harischandra of dire consequences if he failed to pay the dakshiNa amount in full. He took the gold coins given to him and went away.

Now Harischandra tried to sell himself. He shouted,"If any one is willing to buy me before sunset, he may come and speak to me!"

Immediately a chaNdaaLa came near him. He had a pot belly and a thick and long hanging mustache. He was very huge and emanated the smell of raw flesh.

He asked in a hoarse voice,"What is the price you demand for yourself? I work in a cremation ground. You will be my assistant. Your job will be to remove the dress worn by the dead bodies"

Harischandra was shocked that a chaNdaaLa had come forward to buy him - a king and a kshatriyA. He said immeditely,

" Only a person belonging to a higher varna can buy another belonging to the same vasrna or any other lower varna. A chaNdaaLa can never buy a kshatriya."

Now the huge chaNdaaLa - who was in fact Yama Dharma Raajan himself in disguise - asked," Why did you not state your condition when you shouted calling anyone interested to come to you?

Why do you mix varna with a financial transaction? To purchase anything or anyone one needs just sufficient money and nothing else matters.

It is far better to adhere to satyam and do any job honestly than speak asatyam and end up in a hell".

Dharma Raajan spoke to the king about perfect dharma!

திருவிளையாடல்கள். முதற்பகுதி. மதுரைக்காண்டம்.

# 1 இந்திரன் பழி தீர்ந்தது.

# 1 (c). கடம்பவனம்.

மீண்டும் தொடங்கித் தொடர்ந்தது அங்கே
சண்ட மாருதம் போன்ற ஒரு கடும் யுத்தம்.

திடீரெனக் கடலில் புகுந்துவிட்டான் வீரன்,
நொடியில் மறைந்து விட்டான் விருத்திரன்.

பிரமித்த இந்திரன் செய்வதறியாமலே
பிரமனையே நாடி ஓடினான் மீண்டும்!

“குறுமுனி அகத்தியர் பெருமானிடம் நீ
பெறுவாய் இத்துயர் தீர்க்கும் நல்லுதவி!”

குறு வடிவினர் ஆயினும் அருந்தவ முனிவர்,
பெரு வலிவுடையவர், திருமால் போன்றவர்;

உள்ளங்கையில் அள்ளி எடுத்த முனிவர் அத்
தெள்ளிய கடல் நீரைப் பருகியே விட்டார்.

அலைகடலின் அடியினில் அமைந்த ஒரு
மலையின் உச்சியில் இருந்து தவம் செய்த,

விருத்திரன் தலையை அறுத்துத் தள்ளினான்
பெருமை மிகு வச்சிராயுதத்தால் இந்திரன்!

பற்றியது மீண்டும் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம்!
வற்றியது இந்திரனின் வலிவும், பொலிவும்;

மறைந்தன அவன் அழகும், பெருமையும்,
கரைந்தன அவன் வடிவும், இளமையும்!

தன்னை மறைத்துக் கொண்டான் நாணத்தால்,
தண்டில், ஒரு தாமரையில், ஒரு நீர் நிலையில்.

எத்தனை காலம் உருண்டு ஓடியதோ அறியோம்!
எத்தனை மாற்றங்கள் நிகழ்ந்தனவோ அறியோம்!

“மன்னன் இல்லாத நாடா?” என்று உருவாக்கினர்
மண்ணுலக நகுஷனை விண்ணுலக வேந்தனாக!

பெண்ணாசையால் மதியிழந்து குறுமுனிசாபத்தால்
மண்ணுலகில் மலைப்பாம்பாய் வீழ்ந்தான் நகுஷன்.

மனம் கனிந்த வியாழபகவான் அழைத்தார்.
மனம் வருந்திய இந்திரனுக்கு உரைத்தார்.

” பூவுலகம் செல்வாய்! ஈசனைப் பூசித்து
புதிய சக்தி பெற்று மீண்டும் வருவாய்!”

கயிலையில் துவங்கினான் பூசனையை;
காஞ்சி வந்து விட்டபோதும் மாற்றமில்லை!

பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகவும் இல்லை
அரனின் அருளாசிகள் கிடைக்கவும் இல்லை.

கடம்ப வனத்தை அடைந்தான் இந்திரன்;
அடைந்தபோதே நடந்தது ஓர் அற்புதம்!

பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகிச் செல்லவே
பிரமிக்க வைக்கும் ஒளியினை அடைந்தான்.

1.(c). KADAMBAVANAM.

The fierce battle between the Deva and Asura was resumed and renewed. It was like a ‘chanda maarutham’ and a war between two huge clouds! In the middle of the battle Vrutrasuran entered the sea and disappeared from everybody’s sight!

As usual Indra ran to Brahma for guidance. Brahma advised him to seek the help of sage Agasthya. He was no doubt small in stature but was as great as Maha Vishnu himself.

Sage Agasthya took the water of the sea in his palm and drank it completely. Vrutrasuran was found sitting on the top of a cliff, at the bottom of the sea and doing penance. Indra cut off his head with the new Vajraayutham.

Once again Indra was afflicted by the Brahmahathi dosham. He lost his beauty, strength, valor and tejas. Overcome by a sense of shame, he hid himself in the stem of a lotus flower, away from everybody’s sight. Years rolled by!

Devas wanted a new king since they could not find Indra anywhere! They crowned the famous king Nahushan as the new Indra. Nahushan soon got corrupted by power and started coveting Sasi Devi-Indra’s patni.

Guided by Indra, Sasi Devi enacted his plan. Nahushan was asked to ride a palanquin carried by the Sapta Rushis. He kicked sage Agasthya and was transformed to a huge python by the curse of the angered rushi.

Bruhaspati took pity on Indra. He advised Indra to go to Boolokam and worship Lord Siva, to get back his lost glory. Indra worshiped Siva in Kailash and started his Theertha Yathra southwards.

He worshiped Siva in various holy places and reached Kanchi but all in vain. The dosham was neither absolved nor annulled.

When he reached kadambavanam, a miracle happened! The Brahmahathi dosham left him completely.He regained his original form and was overwhelmed by the transformation.

5. நாதம், பிந்து, கலை, வைகரீ

நால்வகைப் பேறுகள் என நவிலப்படுவன
அறம், பொருள், இன்பம், வீடு என்பனவாம்.

நாதம், பிந்து, கலை, வைகரீ என நவிலப்படும்.
அந்தரங்க சாதனமான அகண்டாகார விருத்தி

நாதத்தின் தன்மை வடிவினளான சக்தி பரை
ஜோதி மயமாக உறைவாள் மூலாதாரத்தில்!

புலப்பட மாட்டாள் இவள் நம் புலன்களுக்கு!
புலப்பட மாட்டாள் ஞான விசாரங்களுக்கும்!

பிந்துவின் தன்மை வடிவினளான பச்யந்தி.
சொந்த இதய வானில் பிரணவ மயமாவாள்.

கலையின் தன்மை வடிவினளான மத்யமா
விளங்குவாள் விசுத்தியில் ஸ்வரங்களாக!

வைகரீயின் தன்மை வடிவினளான வைகரீ;
விளங்குவாள் வாக்கு ரூபத்தில் ஒளிமயமாக

நாத வடிவான பராசக்தி மூலாதாரத்தில்
நமக்குப் புலனாகாது சூக்ஷ்மமாக உள்ளாள்.

பச்யந்தியாக இதய வானில் உள்ள போது
பார்வைக்குத் தென்படுவாள் மின்னல்போல.

மத்யமா சக்தியாக விசுத்தியில் இருந்து கொண்டு
சுத்தமாகப் பிரகாசிப்பாள் அக்னிசுவாலை போல.

வைகரீ சக்தி தோன்றுவாள் சப்த வடிவினளாக!
வையகம் முழுவதையும் விளங்கச் செய்வாள்.

“வாக்கினால் தேவியை விளக்க முடியும் – என் வாக்கை
வாக்கின் தேவதையே வந்திருந்து அலங்கரிக்கட்டும்!”

துதித்த பின் தொடங்குகின்றார் தேவியை வியாசர்!
துதித்த பின் தொடங்குவோம் நாம் வேத வியாசரை!

5. Naadam, Bindu, Kala and Vaikari

The four things a man has to attain in his life are Dharma, Arttha, Kaama and Moksham.

The akanda aakaaravruthi is of four types, Naadam, Bindu, Kala, Vaikari.

Parai is the form of Shakti associated with Naadam. She resides in the moolaadhaaraa as a jyothi.

She is beyond our sense organs and our gnaana vichaaram.

Pasyanti is Shakti associated with Bindu. She exists a praanNaa in the hrudaya aakaasam.

Madyamaa is the Shakti associated with Kala. She exists as swaraas in the visuddhi.

The shakti associated with Vaikari is Vaikari. She exhibits brilliance as the spoken words.

'Paraa shakti' as Naadam resides in the moolaadhaara in a sookshma roopam.

When she reaches the hrudaya aakaasam as 'Pasyanti', she appears like a streak of lightning.

'Madhyamaa' is the Shakti who shines brightly like a flame in visuddhi.

'Vaikari' exhibits as words which can be known by the entire world.

"Words can describe the greatness of Devi. Let the Devi come and reside in me and decorate in my words!" This is the prayer made by Sage Vyaasaa.

Let us also pray to goddess Shakti to come and dwell in our words and make them meaningful, beautiful and fruitful.

7#23b. தன்னையும் விற்றான்! (2)

வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் ஆத்திர ஆவேசமாக;
தந்தார் தன் பங்கு நிந்தனையைத் தாரளமாக.

'மத்தளத்துக்கு இரண்டு பக்கமும் இடி' போல
மத்தியில் மாட்டிக்கொண்டான் அரிச்சந்திரன்.

"கேட்கும் பொன்னை வீசத் தயாராக உள்ளான்;
கேட்டுப் பெற்று என் கடனைத் தீர்ப்பாய் நீ" என,

"சூரிய குலத்தின் க்ஷத்திரிய மன்னன் நான்!
சண்டாளனுக்கு அடிமை ஆவேனோ கூறும்?

அடிமை ஆகி விடுகிறேன் முனிவரே நான் உமக்கு!
அடிமையாக மனம் ஒப்பவில்லை சண்டாளனுக்கு!"

"அடிமையாக ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறேன் உன்னை! என,
விடிவு காலம் வந்ததென மகிழ்ந்தான் மன்னன்.

அழைத்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் சண்டாளனை ;
"உழைப்பான் நன்றாக; என்ன விலை தருவாய்?"

"பத்து காதத்துக்குப் பத்து காதம் பரப்பில்
ரத்தினங்கள் நிறைந்த பூமியைத் தருவேன்!"

ஆயிரம் ரத்தினங்கள் தந்தான் புலையன்;
ஆயிரம் பொற் காசுகள் தந்தான் புலையன்;

வருந்த வில்லை அரிச்சந்திரன் இப்போது!
விருப்பத்தை நிறைவேற்றுவது அவன் கடன்.

அசரீரி ஒலித்தது! மலர் மாரி பெய்தது!
"அரிச்சந்திரா! கடனைத் தீர்த்து விட்டாய்"

தன்னையே விற்றுக் கடனைத் தீர்த்தான்!
தன்னேயே விற்றுச் சத்தியம் காத்தான்!

"என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் நான் கூறுங்கள்! "
"சொன்ன வேலையைச் செய் புலயனிடம்!"

7#23b. He sold himself too!

Viswaamitra came there huffing and puffing! He rained accusations on Harischandra. "This man is ready give any money you demand. Take it and pay off my dues!"

Harischandra asked him, "I am a Kshatriya king. How can a ChaNdaaLan buy me? I will rather become your slave and serve you. I can't accept this chaNdaaLa as my master!"

Viswaamitra said,"I gladly accept you as my slave from now on!"

Harischandra was happy to become the slave of a sage. The sage then demaned the chaNdaaLa,"This man is roBust and healthy. What will you pay me for him?"

The chaNdaaLa promised a piece land strewn with rare gems. He also paid one thousand rare gems and one thousand gold coins.

Harischandra handed over them to the sage. Flowers rained form the sky and a voice said, "You are now free from all your debts!"

Harischandra sold himself to a ChaNdaaLa to pay his debts. Ho sold himself to an untouchable - just to uphold his words.

தீர்த்தக் கரையில் தானே முளைத்து எழுந்த
மூர்த்தி சிவலிங்கத்தைக் கண்டான் இந்திரன்;

காணாத புதையலைக் கண்ணுற்றவன் யாரும்
பேணாத மூர்த்தியைப் பேணலுற்றான் அவன்.

கண்கள் பனிக்க, நாத்தழுதழுக்க, தன் மனப்
புண்கள் மறையப் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியுற்றான்.

தேவர் உலக மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்து அந்த
தேவர் பிரானை வழிபட விழைந்தான்.

தேவர் உலகின் திவ்விய மலர்களைத்
தேவன் பூஜைக்குக் கொணரப் பணித்தான்.

தேவத் தச்சன் விஸ்வகர்மாவை வருமாறு
தேவர்கோன் இந்திரன் உடனே பணித்தான்.

“மண்ணில் எவரும் கண்டறியாத அரிய
திண்ணிய விமானத்தை உருவாக்குவாய் நீ!

அன்பருக்கு அன்பன் ஆகிய நம் ஐயனுக்கு
அன்புடன் அளிக்க விழைகின்றேன் நான்!”

தாமரைக் குளத்தில் சென்று தேடினால்,
தாமரை மலர் ஒன்று கூட இல்லையே!

ஏங்கிய இந்திரனின் வாடிவிட்ட மனப்
பாங்கினை உணர்ந்தான் மாதொரு பாகன்.

நொடியில் தோன்றின அத்தாமரைக் குளத்தில்,
வடிவமைந்த வாடாத பொற்றாமரைகள் பல!

உள்ளக் களிப்புடன் நீராடி எழுந்தவன்,
அள்ளிக் கொண்டான் பறித்த மலர்களை.

எட்டு யானைகள், முப்பத்திரு சிங்கங்கள்;
எட்டெட்டு சிவகணங்கள் தாங்கும் அழகிய

மாணிக்க விமானத்தை அர்ப்பணித்தான்
மாணிக்க வாசகர் வணங்கிய இறைவனுக்கு.

பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தில் தானே பறித்த
பொற்றாமரை மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்தான்;

“அத்தா! உன்னை தினம் தவறாமல் வந்து
பித்தா! பிறைச் சூடி என வாழ்த்த அருள்வாய்!”

“சித்திரையின் முழு நிலவில் செய்யும் பூஜை
ஒத்திருக்கும் நித்தம் செய்திடும் பூசையினை!.

தப்பாமல் வந்து நீ இங்கு எனைத் தொழுவாய்.
இப்போதே பெறுவாய் இழந்தவை எல்லாம்!”

ஐயன் அருள் இருந்தால் நிகழ்ந்திடும்,
செய்யற்கரிய பல வினோதஅற்புதங்கள்!

மின்னொளிர் மேனியும், பொலிவும் பெற்று,
விண்ணுல கேகினான் விண்ணவர் கோமான்.

64 THIRU VILAIYAADLAGAL

1.(d). THE POND OF GOLDEN LOTUS.

Indra saw a holy theertham in Kadambavanam.He saw a swayambu Lingam on the bank of the theertham.He felt happy that his long search for mercy of Siva had not been in vain.He had at last found the rare moorthi, which he had been looking for!

He shed copious tears of joy. All his sense of shame and pain left him instantly. He wanted to do puja to the Sivalingam with the divine flowers brought from heaven.

He sent some of his attendants to bring the flowers from Swargam and also command the Deva carpenter Viswakarma to come down to earth immediately. Indra ordered Viswakarma to make the most unique vimaanam for the temple of the Sivalingam.

He wanted to do puja with the lotus flowers of the pond and was disappointed not to find even a single flower in the pond. Lord Siva took pity on Indra and made the most exquisite golden lotuses bloom in the pond. They were fragrant and would never wither away!

Indra took his holy dip in the pond. He gathered the golden lotus flowers and did Siva puja. The vimaanam made for the temple had eight elephants, thirty two lions and sixty four SivagaNaas supporting the vimaanam carved out of Carbuncle.

Lord Siva was immensely pleased by Indra’s bhakti. Indra wanted to come there everyday to do similar puja. But Lord told him that the puja done on the full moon day of the Chaitra month was equal to the puja performed everyday for one whole year.

He blessed Indra to regain everything he had lost due to the brahmahathi dosham. Indra was restored his original glory and went back to swarggam happily.

விஷ்ணு தோன்றினார் சத்தியவதியிடம்
வியாசராக, பராசர முனிவரின் மைந்தராக.

நான்கு பாகங்கள் ஆக்கினார் வேதங்களை!
நன்கு பரப்பினார் நான்கு சீடர்களின் மூலம்.

வேதம் பயில இயலாதவருக்கு அளித்தார்
வேத வியாசர் இதிஹாஸ புராணங்களை.

தேவி பாகவதத்தை இயற்றியவர் வியாசர்.
தேவி பாகவததைக் கேட்டவன் ஜனமேஜயன்.

முனிகுமாரன் சாபத்துக்கு ஆளான பரீக்ஷித்
பணி தீண்டி அடைந்தான் அகால மரணம்!

மரணத்தின் தீவினையை நீக்கிவிட மகன்
சிரவணம் செய்தான் தேவி பாகவதத்தை.

நவாவரண விதிப்படி பூஜித்தான் தேவியை.
சிரவணம் செய்து வந்த ஒன்பது நாட்களிலும்.

ஒன்பதாம் நாள் அடைந்தான் பரீக்ஷித் முக்தி,
ஒப்பற்ற தேவி பாகவதத்தின் மஹிமையால்.

“புத் என்னும் நரகத்தில் இருந்து என்னை மீட்ட
சத் புத்திரன் நீயே!” என மகிழ்ந்தான் பரீக்ஷித்.

தேவி பாகவதம் மிகவும் மேன்மை பெற்றது.
தேவி பாகவதம் தரும் நான்கு மேன்மைகளை.

ஒவ்வொரு நாளும் சிறிது நேரமாவது இது
ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிலும் ஒலிக்க வேண்டும்.

6. The greatness of Devi Bhaagavatam

Lord Vishnu was born as Vyaasaa to sage Paraasaraa and Satyavati. He compiled the Vedas and classified them into four parts. He popularized these four Vedas with the help of his four famous disciples.

For the benefits of those who cannot learn Veda, he wrote the Ithihaasa and PuraaNaas. Devi Bhaagavatam was composed by the Sage Veda Vyaasaa. King Janamejayan – son of king Pareekshit – was the first man to listen to it.

King Pareekshit died an untimely death due to the curse cast by a son of rushi – whom the king had insulted by his foolishness.

Janamejayan worshiped Devi as prescribed in the NavaavaraNam. He listened to the Devi Bhaagavatam for nine days. On the ninth day King Pareekshit attained swarggam due to the effect of the auspicious Devi Bhaagavatam.

Devi Bhaagavatm can grant us the chatur vidha purushaartham namely Dharma, Artha, Kaama Moksham. Regular reading or listening to this great work will shower on us the grace of Devi and auspiciousness in everything we do.

7# 24. சுடலைக் காவல்

இடித்துரைத்தான் புலையன் அரிச்சந்திரனைப் பலவாறு.
அடித்தான் தன் கைத் தடியால் "ஓடிவிடுவாயா?" என்று.

அழைத்துச் சென்றான் சேரிக்கு அவனைத் தன்னுடன்;
அடைத்து வைத்தான் விலங்குகள் பூட்டிச் சிறையினில்.

நகர்ந்தன நான்கு நாட்கள் இவ்வண்ணம் - மன்னன்
மகன், மனைவியை நினைத்து அழுதான் வெகுநேரம்.

கொடுக்கவில்லை அன்ன ஆகாரம் நான்கு நாட்கள்.
விடுவித்தான் சிறையிலிருந்து ஐந்தாம் நாள் காலை .

கொடுத்தான் தன் கைத்தடியை அரிச்சந்திரனுக்கு.
கொடுத்தான் மயானத்தில் வேலையை அவனுக்கு.

மெய் சிலிர்த்தது மயானக் காட்சிககைக் கண்டு;
பொய் பேசாததற்கு இத்தகைய தண்டனையா?

நாற்றமும், புகையும், மண்டையோடுகளும்;
நாய்களும், நரிகளும், கழுகுகளும் சூழ்ந்திட;

தீயின் நாக்குகளும், சட சட என்ற ஒலியும்;
தீனக் குரல்களும், ஒப்பாரியின் ஒலிகளும்;

வருந்தினான் தன் நிலையை எண்ணி எண்ணி;
வருந்தினான் தன் மனைவி, மகனை எண்ணி;

தொடங்கினான் சண்டாளன் தந்த பணிகளை;
தொடங்கினான் மயானக் காவல் தொழிலை;

கணக்கிட்டான் வந்துள்ள பிணங்களை;
கணக்கிட்டான் வரவேண்டிய பணத்தை;

பரிசோதித்தான் பிணங்களைக் கையால்;
பரிதாபமாக மாறினான் சண்டாளன் போல.

பிணங்களின் வாய்க்கரிசி ஆகாரமானது.
உணவின்றித் திரிந்தான் ஓராண்டு காலம்.

திரிந்தான் ஓராண்டு உறக்கம் என்பதின்றி
திரிந்த ஓராண்டு காலம் காவல் காத்தபடி.

7#24. Guarding the cremation ground


The chaNdaaLa scolded Harischandra and beat him up with his stick. He then took the king along with him to the slum wher he lived. Harischandra was locked up for four days without any food to eat. On the fifth day he was sent to guard the cremation ground, undo the clothes worn by the dead bodies and collect taxes.


He was deeply touched by the sights and sounds of the cremation ground. What a big punishment had been given to him for speaking the truth and refusing to tell a lie.


The tongues of leaping fire, the burning of the dead bodies, the smoke and sounds from the burning pyres, the grinning skulls strewn on the ground, the gang of wild dogs, jackals and vultures added to his discomfort.

There was the cry of the relatives of the departed souls and other pitiful sounds. Harischandra felt sorry for himself and his family. He started doing the work entrusted to him earnestly.

He counted the number of dead bodies and the taxes to be collected. He handled the dead bodies as if he were a real chaNdaaLan. He had nothing to eat except what was offered to the dead. He did not sleep and guarded the cremation ground day and night for one full year.

# 2. வெள்ளை யானை சாபம் தீர்ந்தது.

2 (a). முனிவரின் சாபம்.

பொங்கும் புண்ணிய நதியாம் அழகிய
கங்கைக் கரையில் தானே அமைத்த,
லிங்க பூஜையைத் துர்வாச முனிவர்
தங்கு தடையின்றிச் செய்து வந்தார்.

மனம் மகிழ்ந்த மாதொரு பாகனும்
மணம் வீசும் பொற்றாமரை மலரினை,
முடியிலிருந்து கீழே விழச் செய்தார்
அடியவனுக்குத் தன் அருட்பிரசாதமாக.

கண்களில் ஒற்றி அகமிக மகிழ்ந்து,
விண்ணுலகேகிய முனிவர் கண்டார்;
வெற்றி வாகை சூடித் திரும்புகின்ற
வெற்றித் திருமகன் விண்ணவர் கோனை.

பொங்கும் மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் அவனுக்குத்
தங்களால் இயன்ற காணிக்கைகளை
அங்குள்ள அனைவரும் அளிப்பதை
இங்கிருந்து சென்ற முனிவர் கண்டார்.

தன்னிடம் இருந்த பொற்றாமரையைத்
தன் பரிசாக அவர் அளித்திடும்போது;
வெற்றியின் மதத்தினால் அறிவழிந்தவன்
பெற்றுக் கொண்டான் ஒற்றைக் கையால்!

ஒற்றவும் இல்லை கண்களில் மலரை,
வெற்றுப் பொருள் போலக் கருதி யானை
மத்தகத்தின் மீது பொற்றாமரை மலரை
வைத்து விட்டான் விண்ணவர் வேந்தன்!

பித்துப் பிடித்துவிட்டது போல் ஐராவதம்
மத்தக மலரைக் கீழே தரையில் தள்ளி;
மிதித்துக் காலால் கசக்கி மலரைத்
துதிக்கையால் தூக்கி எறிந்து விட்டது!

கனிந்தது கோபம் ஒரே வினாடியில்;
முனிவரின் சாபம் வெளிப்பட்டது.
“ஐயனின் அருட்பிரசாதத்தை ஒரு
கையால் பெற்று அவமதித்தாய் மலரை!

பாண்டிய வீரன் கைத் திகிரியில்
பந்தாடப்படும் உன் தலை ஒருநாள்!
தெய்வத் தன்மை அழிந்து ஒழிந்து,
தெய்வயானை மாறும் காட்டானையாக!”

பதறி விழுந்தனர் முனிவர் கால்களில்,
கதறிவேண்டினர் சாப விமோசனம்,
சுற்றி நின்ற மற்றவர் எல்லோரும்
கொற்றவனுக்காக மிகவும் இறைஞ்சினர்!

“இந்திரன் செய்தது தவறே ஆயினும்
இந்திரன் சாபத்தை நானே மாற்றுவேன்;
தலைக்கு வந்த அந்த ஆபத்து அவன்
தலை முடியோடு நீங்கிப்போய் விடும்!

யானையின் சாபத்தை மாற்றி அமைத்திட
யாராலுமே முடியாது என்றறிவீர்!
நூறு ஆண்டுகள் மண்ணில் வாழ்ந்தபின்
மாறும் யானையின் சாபமும் வடிவும்”

விளையாட்டு வினையாகி விட்டது கண்டீர்!
விளையாடும் இடம் தெரியாமல் ஆடினதால்!
இறையிடத்தும், குருவிடத்தும் வேண்டும்
குறைவில்லாத ஒரு பக்தி என்றென்றும்!

64 THIRU VILAIYAADALGAL

2 (A). SAAPAM ON AIRAVATHAM.

Durvaasa has done prathishtaa of a Sivalingam on the bank of river Ganga. He did pooja to this Lingam with utmost bakti, everyday without fail. Lord Siva was pleased with the rushi’s devotion and let a golden lotus fall from his head-as a divine prasaadam to the rushi.

The rushi was overwhelmed to receive Lord’s prasaadam. He went to the Heaven and saw Indra returning victoriously after a battle with the Asuras.

Everyone who had gathered there to welcome Indra was giving his some gift of love and appreciation. The rushi wanted to present the golden lotus to Indra, as a mark of his appreciation and respect.

Indra was steeped to his eyebrows in pride and received the flower carelessly with one hand. He then placed it on the head of Airaavatham.

The elephant was also intoxicated with the victory in the war. It grabbed the golden lotus, threw it down and trampled on it. It then tossed away the flower with his trunk.

Rushi became insane with anger! He cursed both Indra and Airaavatham severely.

“Indra! you are intoxicated by your victory. You did not receive god’s prasaadam with the honor it deserves. You will lose your head to the discus thrown at you by a Pandiya King. Airaavatham will lose its divinity and be reduced to a black wild elephant!”

Everyone fell at his feet begging for pardon. The rushi was moved to pity.
He reduced the severity of his curse and said, Indra! The discus aimed at you by the Pandiya King will destroy your crown and not your head!

But I can’t reduce the severity of the curse on Airaavatham. He will live as a black wild elephant for a hundred years. He will regain his divinity, original color and glory after the saapa vimochanam.”

We must never show disrespect to God and Guru-unless we are willing to suffer the unpleasant consequences of our thoughtless actions!

7. நவராத்திரி பாராயணம்

தினமும் சிரவண, மனன, அத்யயனம் செய்தால்
தீராத துன்பங்களும் தீர்ந்து விலகிச் செல்லும்!

சித்திரை, ஆடி, ஐப்பசி, மாசி ஆகிய மாதங்களில்
தப்பாமல் செய்ய வேண்டும் பாராயணம் இதனை.

நவ யக்ஞவிதிகளை நன்கு கடைப்பிடித்தால்
நல்ல பலன் தரும் நாம் செய்யும் பாராயணம்.

நிறைவேறும் மனதின் கோரிக்கைகள் தவறாமல்.
குறைந்துவிடும் செய்து குவித்த பாவச் சுமைகள்.

தீர்த்த யாத்திரை, தானம், தவம், விரதம் மேலும்
சித்தி தரும் மந்திரஜபம் தரும் பலனைப் பெறலாம்;

சிறந்த தேவி பாகவத புராணத்தை எல்லோரும்
சிரவணம் செய்து சேகரிக்கும் புண்ணியத்தால்.

புரட்டாசியில் வரும் அமாவாசைக்குப் பின்னர்
சுக்கில பக்ஷத்து அஷ்டமி சுப தினத்தன்று

தேவி பாகவத புராணத்தை முறைப்படி பூஜித்து
தேவி ரஹஸ்யம் அறிந்த ஞானிக்கு அளித்தால்

குணமாகும் நம்மைத் துன்புறுத்தும் வியாதிகள்!
கண நேரத்தில் விலகிவிடும் சூழும் துன்பங்கள்!

ஆபத்து, அச்சம், அபசகுனங்கள் தாரா துயரங்கள்!
ஆனந்தம் பொங்கும் நமது இனிய இல்லங்களில்!

வேதியர் வேத பாண்டித்தியம் அடைவர் மேலும்!
ஞானியர் அடைவர் குறைவற்ற ஞானம் மேலும்!

அரசன் நல்ல பலமும்; வணிகன் செல்வமும்;
பிறர் வாழ்வில் உயர்வும்; மலடி பிள்ளைகளும்;

பெற்று மகிழ்ந்து வாழ்வார் நெடுநாள் பூமியில்!
குற்றமற்ற உறுதி மொழியை அளிப்பவள் தேவி!

7. Navaraatri PaaraayaNam
Daily reading of or listening to this great work will dispel all the difficulties. The most auspicous months for reading this are the tamil months called Chitrai, Aadi, Aippasi,and Maasi

When taken up as per the nava yagna vidhi, this will confer greater benefits. All our dreams will come true. All our sins will vanish.

The other pious activities like theerta yaatra, dhyaanam, penance, daanam, and japam will become more effective.

Devi Bhaagavatam work presented to the worthy Devi bhakta will confer many benefits on the donor. His difficulties will disappear and diseases will get cured. His fear, dangers and worries will vanish completely.

Joy and happiness will fill his house. Pundits will attain more knowledge, gnnais more gnanam, rulers more power, the vysya more money and everyone will get better health, more wealth and a longer life span.This promise is made by Devi herself.

7#25a. சந்திரமதியின் தவிப்பு (1)

அரிச்சந்திரன் மாறிவிட்டான் சண்டாளன் போலவே
சந்திரமதியும், லோகிதாசனும் வேதியரின் அடிமைகள்.

ஏவிய வேலைகளைச் செய்து வந்தனர் இருவரும்;
மேவிய துயரோடு வாழ்ந்து வந்தனர் இருவரும்.

சேகரிக்க வேண்டும் தர்ப்பைப் புல்லும், சமித்தும்.
லோகிதாசன் சென்றான் கானகம் நண்பர்களோடு.

நிறைய தர்ப்பைப்புல் இருந்தது ஓரிடத்தில்;
அறுத்துக் கட்டினர் ஒரு பெரிய கட்டாக.

தூக்க முடியாமல் தூக்கி வந்து களைத்தனர்;
தாக்கியது தாகவிடாய் நடந்த களைப்பினால்.

இறக்கி வைத்தனர் புல்லைப் புற்றின் அருகே,
பிறகு சென்றனர் தெளிந்த நீர் அருந்துவதற்கு.

சீறிப் பாய்ந்த கருநாகம் தீண்டியது லோகிதாசனை,
ஏறியது விஷம் தலைக்கு; விழுந்தான் பிணமாக!

ஓடிச் சென்றனர் சிறுவர் அஞ்சி நடுங்கியபடி;
தேடினர் சந்திரமதியைச் சேதி சொல்வதற்கு.

வெட்டுண்ட வாழை மரம் போல வீழ்ந்தாள்
கெட்ட செய்தியைக் கேட்டதும் சந்திரமதி.

தெளிவித்தனர் மயக்கத்தை நீர் தெளித்து;
தெளிவடைந்ததும் அழுதாள் சந்திரமதி.

ஏசினார் வேதியர் வாய்க்கு வந்தபடி எல்லாம்!
பேசினார் பேசக் கூடாதவற்றை அடிமையிடம்!

அஞ்சினாள் மகனைக் காண அனுமதி கேட்கவும்;
கெஞ்சினாள் தன் மகனைக் காண வேண்டும் என்று.

"அடிமைகள் வேலை செய்யாமல் இருந்தால்
அடைவர் கொடிய நரகத்தை!" என அச்சுறுத்திச்

செல்ல விடவில்லை கிழ வேதியர் சந்திரமதியை!
சொல்லொண்ணாத் துயருடன் செய்தாள் பணிகள்!

7#25a. Chandramati's sorrow

Harischandra was trasformed into a ChaNdaaLa by now. Chandramati and Lohidaasa served the old brahmin sincerely. They did everything told by him and lived a life full of sorrow.

Lohidaasa was ordered by the old brahmin to collect kusa grass and samiththu for the yaagaas and yagnas. He went to the forest with his friends.

They found plenty of kusa grass in a particular spot. They cut the grass and made it into a huge bundle. They carried it with great difficulty and became thirsty and tired very soon.
They dropped the bundle near an anthill and went to quench their thirst. When they came back for the bundle of grass, a black cobra bit Lohidaasa and he fell dead on the spot.

The other children got terrified by this and ran back to tell the bad news to Chandramati. She fainted as quickly as a banana tree slashed with a sickle. They sprinkled cold water and revived her.

She cried bitterly and wished to her son immediately. But the cruel old brahmin would not let her go until she had finished all her chores as usual.

He threatened her that she would end up in a hell if she cheated her master by not doing her chores.

Chandramati cried her heart out but continued to do her work until every chore was completed as usual.

2b. சாப விமோசனம்.


திருவிளையாடல்கள். முதற்பகுதி. மதுரைக்காண்டம்.

# 2. வெள்ளை யானை சாபம் தீர்ந்தது.

2 (b) சாப விமோசனம்.

அறிவு மறைந்தது, நிறம் மாறியது;
அரிய யானை ஆயிற்று கரிய யானை!

மற்ற யானைகளைப் போலவே இதுவும்
சுற்றித் திரிந்தது அடர்ந்த காடுகளிலே.

நூறு ஆண்டுகள் கழிந்து சாபம்
மாறும் நேரம் வந்து விட்டது!

விதிவசத்தால் அன்று இழந்த
மதியைப் பெறும் நேரம் வந்தது.

கடம்பவனத்தில் நுழைந்தது யானை;
உடம்பில் ஏற்பட்டது ஒரு சிலிர்ப்பு!

பொற்றாமரைக் குளத்தைக் கண்டதும்,
மற்றதன் அறிவுக் கண்ணும் திறந்தது!

குளத்தில் முங்கி எழுந்தவுடனேயே
ஜொலிக்கும் மேனி திரும்பிவிட்டது!

பழைய நிறமும், பழைய வடிவும்,
பழைய பலமும், பொலிவும் பெற்றது!

துதிக்கையில் முகர்ந்து எடுத்துச் சென்ற
தூய நீரால் சிவனை அபிஷேகம் செய்தது!

பொற்றாமரை மலர்களையும் பறித்துச்
சாற்றித் தொழுது பூஜையும் செய்தது.

“வேண்டிய வரம் தருவேன்!” என்று
ஆண்டவன் அருள் கூர்ந்த போது அது,

“தானும் தாங்க வேண்டும் ஈசனுடைய
தன்னிகரில்லாத விமானத்தை” என்றது!

“இந்திரன் ஏறும் யானை ஆயிற்றே நீ ?
இந்திரன் என்னுடைய பக்தன் ஆவான்!

அவனை நீ முன்போலத் தாங்குவதையே
அனுதினமும் யாம் விழைகின்றோம் !”

மேற்கு திசையில் அமைத்தது யானை
ஏற்றம் மிகுந்த மற்றொரு தீர்த்தம்!

ஐராவத தீர்த்தம் என்று புகழ் பெற்றது
ஐராவதத்தால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட தீர்த்தம்.

ஐராவதேஸ்வரர் என்ற லிங்கத்தையும்,
ஐராவத கணேசரையும் அழகு மிளிர;

ஐராவதத் தீர்த்தத்தின் கரையிலேயே
ஐராவத யானை அமைத்துவிட்டது!

இந்திரனின் தூதுவர்கள் வந்து வந்து,
இந்திரலோகம் வருமாறு அழைத்தும்;

தந்திரம் செய்தபடித் தங்கி விட்டது,
இந்த மண்ணுலகிலேயே ஐராவதம்!

கிழக்குப் புறத்திலும் அமைத்தது பிறகு
அழகிய இந்திரேஸ்வரரை, ஐராவதம்.

இந்திரன் மீண்டும் அழைப்பு விடவே
இந்திர லோகம் சென்றது தயங்கியபடி.

மண்ணுலகில் நிலவும் பக்தி பாவனை
விண்ணுலகில் இருப்பதில்லை போலும்!

சாபம் பெற்று வருவதும் மண்ணுலகுக்கு!
சாபம் தீர்ந்தும் விரும்புவது மண்ணுலகே!
