KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

6#24b. The fields.

Valli was sent to guard the grain fields from the raiding birds. Murugan felt that it was the right time to bless her and marry her as per her wishes. He left Kanda Verpu and went to Thiruth Thanigai.

Narada went to the grain fields. He saw the beautiful Valli. He went back to Murugan and praised Valli sky high. Narada said, it was the right time to bless the girl.

Murugan transformed himself into a handsome hunter. He reached the fields and fell in love with Valli at the very first sight. He spoke to her sweet nothings and Manmathan was busy shooting his five flower arrows on them.

Nambi came there with his retinue to sound of various musical instruments. Murugan now transformed himself into a Vengai tree.

The hunters who had brought Valli their traditional food of honey and thinai flour were surprised to see a new tree which had appeared there all of a sudden. They inspected it closely and decided to fell it.

Somehow they went off without cutting down that Vengai tree.

7#19b. தானமும், தக்ஷிணையும் (2)

"சத்தியம் தவறாதவன் நீ என்று அறிவேன்;
சாற்றினாய் கேட்டதைத் தருவதாக அன்று!

சதுரங்க சேனைகளுடனும், சகல சம்பத்துடனும்
புது மணமக்களுக்குக் கொடு உன் ராஜ்ஜியத்தை!"

முன் பின் யோசிக்கவில்லை அரிச்சந்திரன்;
சொன்னவுடன் சம்மதித்தான் பரிசளித்திட.

"தான பலன் தரும் தக்ஷிணை தந்தால் மட்டுமே!
தருவாய் தகுந்த தக்ஷினையை எனக்கு!" என்றார்.

"தக்ஷிணையாக என்ன வேண்டும்?" என்றபோது
"தக்ஷிணை இரண்டரை பாரம் பொன்! ' என்றார்.

புகழ்ந்தனர் மக்கள் கொடை வள்ளல் என.
புகழ்ச்சியால் மன்னன் அடைந்தான் புளகம்.

சிந்தித்தான் தான் செய்துவிட்ட தவறுகளை
அந்தப் புரத்துக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்ற பின்பு.

"சகல சம்பத்தையும் தானம் செய்துவிட்ட பின்னர்
சகலரும் விரும்பும் பொன் மட்டும் மீந்திருக்குமா?

இரண்டரை பாரம் பொன் எப்படித் தரப் போகிறேன்?"
மிரண்டான் சிந்திக்கும்போதே மன்னன் அரிச்சந்திரன்.

"சிந்திக்காமல் செயல் பட்டுவிட்டேன் - இனிமேல்
எந்த முகத்துடன் உலவுவேன் இந்த உலகினில்?

விதி வலியது என்பதில் சிறிதும் ஐயமில்லை;
மதியை மயக்கி மாய வலையில் வீழ்த்தி விடும்."

7#19b. The gift and the DakshiNa (2)

The brahmin said, "I know that you never break your promise come what may! You have promised me to give anything I wish to possess. Please present your country with all its wealth and its army to the newly weds as your gift."

Harischandra did not understand the significance of this statement and agreed to give away his kingdom with all his wealth and his army.

Now the brahmin said,"For the daanam to be effective you will need to pay a dakshiNa to me!"

Harischandra asked, "How much is your dakshiNa?" and the brahmin said it would be two and half loads of gold. The foolish king agreed to this condition also.

The people standing around them sang his praise as the greatest donor on earth. He felt elated by these words of praise.

The full impact of his actions became clear only after he went back to the Queens' quarters.

"What have I committed to do in haste and without much thought? After giving away everything I possess, how will I have enough gold for paying the dakshiNa of the brahmin?

How can I face the world when I am unable to keep up my promise? Destiny is all powerful. It deludes, confuses and allows one to get trapped in difficulties!"








 
24c. சிவனடியார்

வேடர்கள் சென்ற பின்னர் முருகன்
வடிவெடுத்தான் மீண்டும் வேடனாக.

வள்ளியிடம் வந்து இன்ப உரைகளைக்
கள்ள வேடன் மீண்டும் பகர்ந்தான்!

“இழி குலத்தில் பிறந்தவள் நான் – நீர்
பொழியும் அன்புக்கு ஏற்றவள் அல்ல.”

வேடர் குலத்தினர் வந்தனர் மீண்டும்,
“வேடர் தீயவர்! தப்பிப் பிழையும்!”என,

வேடன் ஆனான் கிழச் சிவனடியாராக!
வேடர் தலைவனுக்கு அளித்தான் நீறு!

“குமரியாட வந்தேன் நம்பி!” என்றான்.
“குமரிக்குத் துணையாக இரும் நீர் !”

உணவை வழங்கிச் சென்றான் நம்பி.
உணவை அளித்தாள் கிழ அடியாருக்கு.

தேனையும், தினை மாவையும் உண்டு,
“தேவை ” என்றார் அக் கிழவர்!

தாகம் தீர்த்தாள் மலைச் சுனைநீரில்.
“தாகம் தீர்ந்தது, மோகம் தீர்ப்பாய்!”என,

“தவக் கோலம் பூண்டுள்ளீர் ஐயா!
அகவை முதிர்ந்தும் அறிவில்லை?

பித்துப் பிடித்தவர் போல் பிதற்றுகிறீர்;
மெத்தத் துன்பம் வரும் இச் செயலால்.”

6#24c. The devotee of Siva.

After Nambi and his men had left, the tree transformed into the handsome hunter. He spoke sweet nothings to Valli again. She told him,”I am of a very low caste. I do not deserve your love and attention.”

Again Nambi and his men appeared carrying food for Valli and her friends. The hunter now transformed himself into an aged sanyasin. He gave the holy ash to Nambi and said,

” I have come to bathe in the sea at Kanyakumari. Nambi trusted the old and infirm devotee of Siva and told him, You can give company to my dear daughter.”

Valli offered her food to the old man. He ate the honey mixed with the thinai flour and got hiccups. He needed a drink of fresh water. Valli led him to a mountain stream.

He drank to his fill and said, “My thirst has been quenched. Now you must quench my burning desire for you”

Valli became very upset and scolded him, “You look like a sanyasin and you speak such words which do not become of you age or your status. You are sure to get into a lot of troubles by your irresponsible behavior!”

செந்தாமரைக் கண்ணா! கோபிகைகள் தங்களைக் கண்டதால் ஆனந்தம் மேலிட்டவர்களாகி
அமிர்த வர்ஷத்தில் நனைந்தவர்கள் போல உங்கள் முன்வந்து அசைவற்ற தன்மையை அடைந்தார்கள் அல்லவா? ( 68 – 1)

தத3னு காசன த்வத் கராம்பு3ஜம்
ஸபதி3 க்3ருஹ்ணதி நிர்விச’ங்கிதாம் |

அதன் பிறகு ஒருத்தி விரைவாகத் தங்கள் கராரவிந்தத்தைப் பற்றி அச்சம் இன்றி தன் பெருத்த ஸ்தனத்தில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு வெகு நேரம் மயிர் கூச்சம் அடைந்தாள் அல்லவா? ( 68 – 2)

மற்றொருத்தி மிகவும் சந்தோஷம் அடைந்தவளாய் தங்களுடைய அழகான கையைத தன் கழுத்தில் இருந்து வெளிச் செல்லும் பிராண வாயுவைத் தடுத்து நிறுத்துகின்றவள் போலத் தன் கழுத்தில் சுற்றிக் கொண்டாள் அல்லவா? ( 68 – 3)

வேறு ஒரு பெண் வெட்கத்தை விட்டவளாகித் தங்கள் திருமுகமலரில் இருந்து தாங்கள் மென்ற தாம்பூலத்தை வாங்கிக் கொண்டு அதைத் தன் வாயில் இட்டுச் சுவைத்து தன் மனோரதத்தை நிறைவேற்றிக் கொண்டாள்.( 68 – 4)

விகருணே வனே ஸம்விஹாய மாம்
அபக3தோஸி கா த்வாமிஹ ச்’ப்ருசே’த்|
இதி ஸரோஷயா தாவதே3கயா
ஸஜல லோசனம் வீக்ஷிதோ ப4வான் || ( 68 – 5)

“கருணையே இல்லாமல் என்னைக் காட்டில் தனியாக விட்டுச் சென்றாய் அல்லவா? உன்னை இப்போது யார் தொடுவாள் ?” என்று கோபத்துடன் கண்களில் கண்ணீர் வர ஒருத்தி தங்களைக் கண்டாள் அல்லவா? ( 68 – 5 )

வாடிய முகத்தைக் கண்டாள் சந்திரமதி;
நாடினாள் முகவாட்டதின் காரணம் அறிய.

"லோஹிதாசன் திரும்பிவிட்டான் நம்மிடம்;
லோகம் புகழும்படிச் செய்தீர் ராஜசூய யாகம்;

மனக் கவலையின் காரணத்தைக் கூறுங்கள்
மனைவி என்னிடம் மனம் விட்டு!" என்றாள்.

கூறவில்லை காரணத்தை அரிச்சந்திரன்,
உறங்கவில்லை இரவு பல சிந்தனைகளால்.

அரச சபை சென்றான் மறுநாள் காலையில்;
விரைவாக வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திர முனிவர்.

"தரவில்லை தானம் செய்த ராஜ்ஜியத்தை;
தரவில்லை மேலும் பேசிய தக்ஷினையை.

சத்தியம் தவறாத மன்னன் என்பவன் இவ்வாறு
நித்தியம் அலைக்கழிக்கலாகுமா முனிவனை?"

"தந்து விடுகிறேன் ராஜ்ஜியத்தை இப்போதே!
தந்து விடுகிறேன் சகல சம்பத்துடன் நாட்டை!

உடுத்திய துணியோடு வெளியேறுகிறோம்!
கிடைத்தது தருவேன் தக்ஷிணைப் பொன்னை! "

வெளியறினான் மனைவி, மகனுடன் மன்னன்;
வழியின்றி இனிக் காட்டில் வாழவேண்டும்!

அழுதனர் நகர மக்கள் மன்னனைக் கண்டு !
தொழுதனர் மன்னன் மேல் பரிவு கொண்டு!

வருந்தினர் அந்தணர் முனிவர் செயலால்;
கருதினர் இது தெய்வத்தின் வஞ்சனை என.

தடுத்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திரர் அரிச்சந்திரனை;
"கொடுக்கவில்லை நிர்ணயித்த தக்ஷிணை"

7#19c. The Gift and the DakshiNa (3)

Queen Chandramati saw her crestfallen husband. She could not guess the cause of his sadness.

She told him, Our son prince Lohidaasa has come back to us. You have just performed Raaja sooya yagnam very grandly. What is the cause of your sorrow? Please share it with me as i am your lawfully wedded wife"

But Harischandra did not reveal the cause of his sorrow. Nor did he sleep throughout that night - torn asunder by random thoughts.

The next day he went to his durbar. Viswaamitra came there and said,"You have not handed over your country which you have already donated. You have not given my dakshiNa which you had agreed to give me.

People praise you as the upholder of dharma and satyam. Can you make an old man walk up and down to get the gifts promised to him by you?"

Harischandra said, "I shall give away my kingdom with all the wealth in it now. Kindly give me some more time to procure enough gold to pay for your DakshiNa. "

He went away from the palace with his queen and son in the commoner's clothes they were wearing. The citizens broke down and cried pitying the king and his royal family.

The brahmins were ashamed of the rudeness shown by Viswaamitra. People said it must be the treachery of gods that subjected their good king to such deep troubles.

But Viswaamitra would not let Harischandra walk away without paying his dakshiNa.

24d. ஆனைமுகன்

ஆனைமுக அண்ணனை எண்ணினான் முருகன்,
“ஆனையாக வந்து சிறு உதவி செய்வீர்” என்றான்.

கடல் போல முழங்கியது மலை போல யானை!
நடுநடுங்கி விட்டாள் பயத்தில் வள்ளியம்மை.

பின்புறம் சென்று தழுவிக் கொண்டாள் அவரை.
“சொன்னபடிச் செய்கிறேன் காப்பாற்றுங்கள்” என,

ஆனைமுகன் திரும்பிச் சென்றதும் பூம்பொழிலில்
அன்புடன் கூடினான் வள்ளியம்மையை முருகன்.

ஆறு முகங்களுடன், பன்னிரு தோள்களுடன்,
அழகிய மயில் மீது காட்சி தந்தான் அவன்.

“முன்னமே திருக்கோலம் காட்டாது என்னை
மருட்டியது ஏனோ கூறுங்கள்” என்றாள் அவள்.

திருமுருகன் ஆணைப்படித் திரும்பினாள் அவள்
தினைப் புனம் காவல் செய்வதற்கு மீண்டும்.

6#24d. The Elephant God.

Murugan prayed to his elder brother Ganapathy,
“Please help me to marry Valli!”

Ganapathy appeared as a giant elephant trumpeting like the waves of an ocean. Valli got scared and tried to hide behind Murugan. She agreed to obey him if he would save her from the scary elephant.

The elephant went away. Murugan revealed his true identity to Valli. She became extremely happy and wanted to know why she was kept in the dark as to his real identity. They spent a happy time together in a garden laden with flowers.

Murugan advised her to go back to her guarding duty in the grain fields, and she obeyed him.

மெய்யாகத் தந்துவிடுவேன் நீ தந்த அத்தனையும்!"

கூப்பிய கரங்களுடன் நின்றான் மன்னன்;
செப்ப விரும்பவில்லை தான் பொய்யன் என்று.

He told King Harischandra," If you feel sorry for you hasty actions, just say one word and admit that that your are not truthful to your words. I shall return to you everything you have offered me!"

But Harischandra stood with his palms joined in anjali mudra and would not admit that he was a lair.


 
7#20. மன்னன் பட்ட கடன்

"கொடுப்பதாக கூறிய தக்ஷிணையை உமக்குக்
கொடுக்காமல் உணவருந்த மாட்டேன் நான்!

சூரிய வம்சத்தவன்; ராஜசூய யாகம் செய்தவன்;
கூறிய வார்த்தை பொய்யாகலாகாது ஒரு நாளும்.

தீர்த்து விடுவேன் உம் கடனை எவ்வாறேனும்;
தீர்க்கும்வரை இருக்காது சிறிதும் மன நிம்மதி!"

"எப்படிக் கிடைக்கும் அத்தனை பொன் உனக்கு?
தம்படிக் காசு கூட இல்லையே தம்பி உன்னிடம்!

ஒப்புக்கொள் நீ கூறியது பொய் என்று ஒரு வார்த்தை!
இப்போதே தந்து விடுகின்றேன் உன் நாட்டை உனக்கு."

"உடல் வலு வாய்ந்தவர்கள் நாங்கள் மூவரும்;
கிடைக்கும் எமக்கு விலையாக தக்ஷிணைப் பொன்.

அடிமைகள் ஆகி விடுகின்றோம் யாம் மூவரும்;
அடைய முடியும் நீர் தக்ஷிணைப் பொன்னை!

தவணை தாருங்கள் ஒரே ஒரு மாத காலம்;
தவறாமல் தருகிறேன் தக்ஷிணைப் பொன்னை."

காசி நகரில் கங்கை நதியில் நீராடினர் - காசி
விசுவநாதரை வணங்கி வெளியே வந்தனர்.

கூறினாள் ஆறுதல் மனைவி சந்திரமதி,
"சூரிய குலத்தவர் வாக்குப் பொய்யாகுமா?

பொய்யான வாக்கு மாய்த்துவிடும் - ஒருவன்
மெய்யான முயற்சியில் அடைந்த புகழை.

என்னை விற்றுவிடுங்கள் ஒரு அடிமையாக - அந்தப்
பொன்னைக் கொடுங்கள் முனிவரின் தக்ஷிணையாக!"

மூர்சித்து விட்டான் அரிச்சந்திரன் இதைக் கேட்டு;
மூர்சித்து விட்டாள் அதைக் கண்ட சந்திரமதியும்.

அழுதான் பாலகன், அன்னையிடம் கேட்டான்,
"அம்மா பசிக்கிறது! புசிக்க உணவு தாருங்கள்!"

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

7#20. The king is in debt!

Harischandra told Viswaamitra,"I will not take food until I pay your dhakshiNa in gold. I belong to the Soorya vamsam. I have performed the great Raaja sooya yaagam. My words will never go false. I will have no peace of mind until I pay you your dues"

Viswaamitra asked him, "How do you hope to raise the money when you are no more the king of this country? Just utter one word admiting that you are a liar and I will happily give you back your kingdom and everything else you have given me"

Harischandra said, "I, my wife and my son are healthy and robust. We will fetch a good sum if we sell ourselves as slaves. I m sure I can pay you your dakshiNa with that. All I need is one month's time."

The sage agreed to this condition. Harischandra, Chandramati and Lohidaasa went to the city of Kassi, took bath in Ganges and had a dharshan of Viswanaatha.

Chandramati told Harischandra, "The words spoken by a king of the Sorrya vamsam can never go wrong. Sell me as a slave and pay the gold as DakshiNa to the sage. I have completed my life's mission as a wife by bearing you a good son."

Harischandra fainted on hearing these pathetic words from his dear wife. On seeing his fall faint, she also fainted. Lohidaasa got worried seeing both his parents fall faint and started crying for food.

24e. களவொழுக்கம்

திடீரென்று வந்த மாற்றங்களைக் கண்டு
தினைப் புனத் தோழி ஐயம் கொண்டாள்.

“நீ எங்கு சென்று வந்தாய்?” என வினவ,
“நீராடச் சென்றேன் சுனையில்” என்றாள்.

“கண் சிவந்து, வாய் வெளுத்து, வியர்த்துப்
பெண் மாறும் சுனை யாண்டுளது கூறு!” எனக்

கள்ள வேடன் அங்கே வந்தான் மீண்டும்,
மெள்ளக் கேட்டான் இரு பெண்களிடமும்,

“நான் எய்த யானை இங்குள்ளதா?”எனவும்,
நயன மொழி அறிந்து பாங்கி விலகினாள்.

தனித்து மகிழும் வாய்ப்பு கிடைக்கவே,
இனிய களவொழுக்கத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

முற்றி விளைந்தன தினைக் கதிர்கள்.
முற்றிலும் அறுவடை செய்தாயிற்று.

இல்லத்தில் இருந்த வள்ளி தன்னுடைய
இயல்பில் இருந்து மிகவும் மாறுபட்டாள்.

உடல் மெலிந்தாள் உள்ளம் வெதும்பினாள்
உயிர் இழந்தவள் போல் மயங்கி நின்றாள்.

“தெய்வம் பெண்ணைத் தீண்டியதோ?” என
ஐயுற்ற வேடுவர் வெறியாட்டு அயர்ந்தனர்.

The smart friend got a doubt on seeing the visible changes in Valli.
She asked her, “Where had you been? Valli said she had gone to bathe in the stream.

The friend asked her, “Where is the stream which can make a girl get red eyes, pale lips and drench her with sweat?”

The handsome hunter appeared again. He wanted to know whether the elephant struck by his arrow was seen by the girls!

The smart friend understood their love for each other. She went away leaving them in privacy. The two lovers spent happy time together.

Soon the grains were ready for harvesting and they were harvested.
Valli has to stay in the house now. She felt the pangs of separation.
She became thin and pale and looked very disturbed.

The hunters suspected that their God had something to do with these changes. They performed the traditional dance to please their god.

7#21a. சந்திரமதியின் யோசனை

துக்கப் பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தனர் மூவரும் - அங்கு
தூமகேது போல வந்தார் விஸ்வாமித்திர முனிவர்.

கிங்கரனைப் போல நடந்து வந்தவரைக் கண்டு
கிறங்கி மூர்ச்சித்தான் அரிச்சந்திரன் மீண்டும்.

தெளித்தார் கமண்டல நீரை அள்ளி அவன்மேல்;
விளித்தார் அவனை," அரிச்சந்திரா எழுந்திரு!

தந்துவிடு தக்ஷினைப் பொன்னை இப்போதே;
தரும் வரையில் குறையாது உன் மனக் கலக்கம்!

வந்திருந்தார் வசூல் மன்னனாக விஸ்வாமித்திரர்!
வந்தது மன மயக்கம் அரிச்சந்திரனுக்கு மீண்டும்.

தெளித்தார் கமண்டல நீரை மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை.
விளித்தார் அவன் பெயரைச் சொல்லி மீண்டும்.

"தக்ஷிணை தரவேண்டும் என்றதும் உனக்குத்
தலை சுற்றி மயக்கம் வருகிறது அரிச்சந்திரா!

சத்திய வாக்கு சமம் அஸ்வமேத யாகத்துக்கு;
சத்தியத்தால் நிலைபெற்று நிற்கிறது உலகம்.

தர வேண்டும் என் தக்ஷினையை மாலைக்குள்;
தராவிட்டால் சபித்து விடுவேன் உன்னை நான்!"

'அந்திப் பொழுதுக்குள் கிடைக்குமா பொன்?'
சிந்தித்துச் சிந்தாகுலம் அடைந்தான் மன்னன்!

வந்தான் ஓர் அந்தணன் வீட்டிலிருந்து வெளியே!
வந்தான் தனது நண்பர்கள் புடை சூழ வெளியே!

சொன்னாள் சந்திரமதி நல்ல யோசனையை;
சொன்னாள் இக்கட்டிலிருந்து வெளியே வர.

"தந்தை ஆவார் அந்தணர் அனைவருக்கும்!
தந்தையாக எண்ணிக் கேட்போம் ஓர் உதவி!"

7#21a. Chandramati's suggestion

The trio were immersed in sorrow and self pity. Sage Viswaamitra was approaching them like the terrifying Dhoomaketu - since the grace period of one month was getting over on that day.

The fearsome sight of the sage walking angrily was enough to make Harischandra swoon once again. Viswaamitra sprinkled the ice cold water from his kamanadalam on the king and called out his name loudly to make him come around.

"Pay up the dakshiNa gold. You will never have any peace of mind until then!" These harsh words spoken by the sage and his obvious determination to extract the gold - which did not exist - made Harischandra swoon again. The sage sprinkled water on him once again.

"The very thought of paying my dakshina is enough to make you swoon. Speaking the truth is equal to performing an aswameda yaagam. The world exists in perfect order only because of the truth or satyam.

The grace period of one month will get exhausted today. You had better pay me before the day is over. Otherwise I will curse you very harshly!"

Harischandra was worrying as to how to procure so much gold before the night fell! Just then a brahmin came out of his house. He was surrounded by his friends and looked well placed and happy.

Chandramati told Harischandra thus."A good brahmin is like a father to the other three varnaas. There is nothing wrong in asking for help from a father figure. We can request this gentle man for his timely assistance to avoid being branded as liars!"

24f. மனவருத்தம்

தினைப் புனம் சென்றான் வேடன்,
அணைத்து மகிழ வள்ளி இல்லை.

பனைத் துணை துயர் உற்றான்;
வினவினான் முகிலை, மயிலை!

வினவினான் குயிலை, பொழிலை!
வினவினான் அந்தத் தினைப் புனத்தை!

வினவினான் நாகணவாய்ப் பறவையை.
வினவினான் துள்ளித் திரியும் மான்களை

வாடினான் வேடன், மனம் தளர்ந்தான்;
தேடினான் வள்ளியை நெஞ்சம் வருந்தி!

சிற்றூரினுள் புகுந்து வேடர் தலைவன்
சிறு குடிலின் அருகில் சென்று நின்றான்.

பரிவுடன் பாங்கி வள்ளியை அனுப்ப,
பிரிவுத் துயர் அகன்று இன்பம் பெருக;

பொழில் ஒன்றில் தங்கினர் இருவரும்.
பொழுது விடிந்தது!" எங்கே வள்ளி?"

கணவனிடம் உரைத்தாள் அஞ்சியபடி
காணாமல் போன மகள் செய்தியை.

போர்க் கோலம் பூண்டான் வேடன் நம்பி;
போர் செய்யத் துடித்தனர் பிற வேடர்கள்.

பொழிலில் கண்டனர் முருகன், வள்ளியை!
பொழிலை வேடர் வளைத்துச் சூழ்ந்தனர்.

வில்லை வளைத்து கணை மழையால்
முகிலென மறைத்தனர் முருகனை.

மனம் மிக வருந்தினாள் வள்ளியம்மை!
மலர் போல் விழுந்தன அக்கணைகள்!

சேவற் கொடி நிமிர்ந்து கூவியவுடன்
வேடர் கூட்டம் இறந்து விழுந்தது.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#24f. Murugan is annoyed.

The handsome hunter went to the grain field but Valli was nowhere to be seen. He became love lorn. He spoke the clouds, to the peacocks, to the parrots, to the garden, to the field, to the birds, to the deers, but none of them could give any information about Valli.

He became very dejected and dared to go and stand outside the hut of Nambi. Valli’s friend saw him and sent Valli outside secretly. The hunter and Valli spent the night in a garden, in the company of each other.

In the morning the mother noticed that Valli was missing from home. She told her husband and he got ready for a fight. All the other hunters followed him.

They saw Valli and Murugan in the garden. They surrounded the garden an showered arrows on the hunter. Valli became very sad to see this, but those arrows fell like flowers without harming the hunter.

The cock in Murugan’s flag crowed loudly and the entire group of hunters dropped down dead by the deafening noise!
 
Kanda puraanam will get completed on 15th January- the makara sankaraanthi day.

The one great thing about puraaNaas is that they never ever bore us or tire us

since they always remain new - even when branded as a puraaNaa.

So we will read the stories from the 64 ThiruviLaiyaadlagL of Lord Sankara from Sanakraanthi day.

Those who have already read the poem and story may hop/ skip/ jump over it and got to the next post/ thread.

Also I will be presenting Devi Bhaagavtama from Skanda 1 onwards one more time.

Good things can be seen/ heard/ told and read any number of times!!! Right???

7#21b. சந்திரமதியின் யோசனை (2)

ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை மனைவியின் கருத்தை!
"ஏற்றதல்ல யாசகம் க்ஷத்திரிய குல அரசனுக்கு.

யாசகம் பெறுவது அந்தணர் தர்மம் அறிவாய்
யாசகம் தருவது அரசனின் தர்மம் அறிவாய்.

அபயம் அளிக்க வேண்டும் சரண் புகுந்தவர்களுக்கு;
யாகம் செய்ய வேண்டும், மக்களைக் காக்க வேண்டும்.

அரசன் சென்று ஓர் அந்தணணிடம் யாசிப்பதா?
அடாத செயலாகும் இது" என்றான் அரிச்சந்திரன்.

மறுத்துப் பேசினாள் சந்திரமதி மன்னனிடம்,
"இருக்கிறது காலம் என்றொரு தத்துவம் நாதா!

விதி என்றும் கூறுவார் அதனை உலகத்தோர்;
மதியை மயக்கி மாட்டிவிடும் மாயவலையில்.

வாக்குத் தந்தீர் அந்தணருக்கு ஆலோசியாமல்!
வள்ளலாக இருந்தவர் இன்று வறியவர் ஆனீர்!

முனிவரை முன்கோபியாக ஆக்கி நம்மைக்
கனிவு இன்றி நாட்டிலிருந்து விரட்டியது எது?

வள்ளலை வறியவனாக ஆக்குவது காலம்!
வள்ளலாக வறியவனை ஆக்குவது காலம்!

காலம் செய்வது கோலம் அல்ல அலங்கோலம்!
காலம் எதிரியானால் விளைந்திடும் விபரீதம்!"என

"வசப்பட்டது அனைத்தும் காலத்துக்கு அறிவேன்.
வசப்பட்டது அனைத்தும் அறிவுக்கும் உண்மை!

அறிவு மிகுந்திருந்தால் தன்மானம் அதிகரிக்கும்;
அறிவு கண்டிக்கும் பிறரிடம் உதவி பெறுவதை.

கேட்கவே மாட்டேன் நான் அந்நியரிடம் உதவி.
கேட்டுப் பழக்கம் இல்லை எனக்கு!" என்றான்

7#21b. Chandramati's suggestion (2)

King Harischandra did not consent to his wife Chandramati's suggestion. "A Kshatriya king is supposed to give daanam - not receive daanam from others. It is the the kula dharmam of Brahmins to receive a daanam.

A king has to perform yaagaa, protect his citizens and give daanam to brahmins. A king can never accept daanam from a brahmin."

Chandramati did not agree to his point of view and aired her own views on this matter now. "There is another thing to be considered along with the rules laid by dharma saastraas.

There is something called Time Factor or Fate or Destiny which shapes our lives. It deluded our mind and makes our lives topsy turvy or upside down.

You promised a brahmin your kingdom without giving it a second thought. You were the greatest among the givers and now you are the greatest among the paupers.

What made a sage - who loves everyone in the world true to his name of Viswaamitra - get annoyed with us? What drove us away from our own country and our own palace pitilessly?

There are the tricks played by Destiny. It makes a prince out of a pauper and a pauper out of a prince. When the time becomes unfavorable to us, everything starts going wrong!"

Now Harischandra aired his own opinions on this matter."I do know about the effects of Time Factor on our lives. I also know the effect of self-respect on a man's life.

When a man is intelligent and well versed he develops a self-respect. It stops him from stooping to take help from anyone else. I can never seek the help of a stranger to save my name or fame!"




 
KANDA PURAANAM - DAKSHA KAANDAM

24g.திருமணம்

இறந்து விழுந்தவர் சுற்றத்தினர்;
வருந்தி நின்றாள் வள்ளியம்மை.

சென்றான் முருகன் பொழில் நீங்கி.
பின் தொடர்ந்தாள் வள்ளியம்மை.

நாரதர் அங்கே தோன்றிக் கூறினார்;
“இறந்தவர் உயிர் பெற வேண்டும்”

பொழிலுக்கு வந்தான் முருகன்,
“எழுப்புவாய் உன் சுற்றத்தினரை!”

விழுந்தவர்கள் பிழைத்து எழுவீர்!”
விரும்பி வேண்டினாள் வள்ளியம்மை.

பிழைத்து எழுந்தனர் இறந்தவர்கள்!
தழைத்தது மகிழ்ச்சி மீண்டும் அங்கு.

திரு உருவைக் காட்டினான் வேடன்;
பெருமிதம் கொண்டனர் வேடுவர்!

தங்கள் ஊரிலேயே மணம் புரியத்
தாள் பணிந்து இறைஞ்சி வேண்டிட,

வேடுவர்களின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு
வேற்படை வேந்தன் இணங்கினான்.

நாரத முனியுடன் ஊரை அடைந்தான்;
ஆறுமுகன் வள்ளியை நோக்கவும்,

மறைந்தது அவள் வேடுவக் கோலம்!
நிறைந்தது தெய்வத் திருக் கோலம்!

நீர் வார்த்து நம்பி பெண்ணைத் தர,
நாரதர் செய்தார் திருமணச் சடங்கு.

பெருமானுடன் தோன்றினர் உமை,
திருமால், பிரமன், இந்திரன், தேவர்.

வாழ்த்துரை வழங்கினர் அனைவரும்!
வாழ்த்தித் தூவினர் மங்கல அரிசியை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
