Vinaayaka puraanam - 2

#39C. Baalachandran

Madhavan and Sumudai did not go back to their palace for the fear of getting killed by Dhoomaasuran. They learned to survive in the forest by eating the fruits and roots.

They roamed around in the forest undisturbed. The time for the birth of Sumudai’s baby was nearing fast.

Vinayaka appeared there as a small child. He had three lovely eyes and four arms holding on to four weapons.
Sumudai embraced the unusual child and asked about him.

The child replied,” I am called a Baalachandran. I have appeared to you before as Vishnu to grant you boons. I sent some soldier to save you from the killers and Vidruman. Dhoomaasuran wants to kill your baby. I have come here as a small child to deceive him.”

The spies were watching Sumudai all the time. They had to report the birth of the child to Dhoomaasuran.

They were surprised to see a small baby on Sumudai’s lap – even before her baby had been born! They ran to report this to Dhoomaasuran.

They told him, “There is a baby on the queen’s lap. It has four arms and three eyes and is indeed an unusual child.”

An army got ready since it was not going to be easy to kill a strange child with four arms and three eyes. The army marched towards the forest and surrounded it completely.

5#11e. தாமிரன் தூது (1)

“நீயே தாமிரா! அந்த அழகியிடம் சென்று விடு!
நீயே கொணர்ந்து அவளை எனக்குத் தந்து விடு!

வர மறுத்தால் நீயே அவளைக் கொன்றுவிடு!
வர மறுக்கிறது அவளைக் கொன்றிட மனம்!

நேரில் காண வேண்டும் நான் அவளை;
தேறியுள்ளாய் காம, வீரப்போர்களில் நீ!

உயிர் இழப்பான் போரில் போர் வீரன்;
உயிர் இழப்பான் சோகத்தில் காமுகன்.

எந்த விதமாகிலும் நான் காண வேண்டும்;
வந்து காணச் செய்யவேண்டும் அவளை!

வீணாக்காதே பொழுதை இங்கேயே நின்று!
வாணாளை நீட்டு அவளை நீ கொணர்ந்து!

யார் அவள்? எதற்காக இங்கே வந்தாள்?
போர் புரிய வந்தாளா? காமம் கருதியா?

தானே வந்தாளா? பிறர் அனுப்பி வந்தாளா?
நானே அறியவேண்டும் விவரங்கள் எல்லாம்.

செய்யலாம் யுத்தம் தேவை ஏற்பட்டால்;
செய்யலாம் சமாதானம் தேவை ஏற்பட்டால்.

மருட்டி விடாதே அந்த அழகியை தாமிரா!
இருப்பதை அறிந்து வா அவள் உள்ளத்தில்!”

சென்றான் தாமிரன் நாற்படைகளுடன்;
கண்டான் துர் நிமித்தங்கள் வழி நெடுக.

அஞ்சவில்லை படை துர் சகுனங்களால்;
வெஞ்சமர் புரிய எண்ணி முன்னேறியது.

கண்டனர் சிம்ஹ வாஹனத்தில் தேவியை!
கண்டனர் திருக் கரங்களில் ஆயுதங்களை!

தெள்ளத் தெளிவானது அமைச்சனுக்கு – அவள்
உள்ளக் கருத்து அவளைக் கண்ட உடனேயே!

5#11e. Thaamran goes to Devi

Mahishan was impressed by Thaamran’s opinions. He told him,”Taamraa! You please go to that woman and bring her here. If she refuses to come with you, just kill her. I can’t kill her with my own hands.

I must meet her. You seem to know warfare as well as love fare.You must make her come here and meet me. A warrior gets killed in a battle field and a lover gets killed when he becomes lovelorn.

Who is she? Why is she here? What does she want? Did she come here on her own or was she sent here by someone else? I want to know everything about her.

If necessary we can fight with her. If necessary we can make a peace pact with her. Do not scare her for my sake. Just find out everything about her and try to bring her here”

Thaamran went accompanied by the four wings of the asura army.The soldiers saw bad omens all along the way but they could not care less abut it. Their only thought was a war with that strange woman.

Then they all saw her seated on her lion. She was as beautiful as she was valorous! The eighteen weapons shone in her arms. One look at her made Thaamran understand why she was there.

16. சஹஸ்ரவாகு.

வீரமகேந்திரபுரம் அழிந்து கொண்டிருக்க
வீரவாகுவைச் சூழ்ந்தனர் அவுணர்கள்;

ஆரவாரம் செய்தனர்; பொருதலாயினர்;
மாமரத்தைப் பற்றி சுழற்றினார் வீரவாகு.

ஆயிரம் தோள் உடையவர் செலுத்தினர்
ஆயிரக் கணக்கில் தாம் கொணர்ந்திருந்த

தோமரம், குலிசம் எனும் படைக்கலங்களை!
மாமரத்தால் தூளாக்கினார் வீரவாகு.

ஆயிரம் தோளினர் அருகினில் நெருங்க
மாமரத்தாலேயே அடித்துக் கொன்றார்.

ஆயிரம் தோளினர் பெருக்கிய குருதி
வாரிக் கொண்டு போயிற்று வளங்களை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

 3 # 16. Sahasrabaahu.

When Veeramahendrapuram was being destroyed by Veerabaahu, the Sahasrabaahus who had a thousand arms surrounded him.

They made a terrible noise and attacked him. Veerabaahu swirled a huge tree and met their attacks. All the asthras shot by the asuras were rendered useless by the huge swirling tree.

He then hit the Saharabahus with the tree and killed them. The blood from their bodies washed away whatever wealth had been left behind.

 9D. தூமகேது

காட்டை அடைந்த அசுரர்களின் படை,
கோட்டை போலக் காத்தது அக்காட்டை.

பாண மழை பொழிந்தான் தூமாசுரன்,
பாலச்சந்திரன் இருந்தான் தாய் மடியில்.

சீறி வந்தன அசுரனின் பாணங்கள்!
வீரமாக எழுந்து நின்றான் குழந்தை.

கறுத்த மேகங்கள் குவிந்தது போல
மறைத்துக் கொண்டன பாணங்கள்.

குழந்தையை மூடிக் கொண்டது கண்டு
குமுறினர் மனம் மாதவனும் சுமுதையும்.

“எனக்கு ஒரு பயமும் இல்லை அம்மா!”
என்றவன் வாயிலிருந்து புகை மண்டலம்!

மெல்லப் பரவியது புகை மண்டலம்;
கள்ள அரக்கர்களைச் சூழ்ந்தது புகை.

கவிழ்ந்தது காரிருள் போலப் புகை.
காரிருள் விலகியது மெல்ல மெல்ல.

படையை அங்கு காணவே காணோம்!
படை பஸ்பமாகி அழிந்தனர் வீரர்கள்!

தூமாசுரன் வந்தான் பெரும் படையுடன்;
தூம மண்டலத்தில் அழிந்து போனான்.

தூமாசுரனைத் தூமத்தால் வென்றவன்
தூமகேது என்று புதிய பெயர் பெற்றான்.

மாதவன், சுமுதையை அனுகிரஹித்து
மறைந்து அருளினான் பாலச்சந்திரன்.

நாரணன் பிறந்தான் சுமுதையின் மகனாக.
மாறாத அன்பு செலுத்தினான் பெற்றோரிடம்

நாட்டை ஆண்டான் நன்றாக நெடுங்காலம்;
நற்கதி அளித்தான் தன்னைப் பெற்றோருக்கு!

#39 D. Dhoomaketu

The army of asura reached the forest and surrounded it guarding it like a fortress. Dhoomaasuran showered arrows on Baalachandran. The child stood up bravely on his mother’s lap.

The arrows covered the child completely like dense black clouds. Madhavan and Sumudai were afraid about the safety of the child.

“Nothing has happened to me mother!” the child Baalachandran spoke and they could see black fumes emanating from his mouth.

The fumes became darker and denser and covered the asura army like pitch darkness. When the fumes cleared after some time no one was there. All the asura had turned into ash.

Dhoomaasuran had come with a huge army and the child Baalachandran had killed the army with his own fumes. He was praised a Dhoomaketu. He blessed Madhavan and Sumudai and disappeared.

Vishnu was born as Sumduai’s son on the due day. He grew up well and respected and loved his parents. He ruled the country well for a long time.

He gave moksha to his parents and liberated them from the cycle of birth and death.

5#11f. தாமிரன் தூது (2)

‘மஹாவீரங்கனையன்றோ இந்தப் பெண்!
மஹிஷனை மதித்து விரும்புவாளா இவள்?

தெய்வப் பெண்ணான இவள் விரும்புவாளா
மை நிறத் தலை கொண்ட மஹிஷாசுரனை?

வந்த வேலையைச் செய்ய வேண்டும் நான்
சொந்தக் கருத்து எதுவாக இருந்த போதிலும்.

“விரும்பினான் போரை மஹிஷன் தேவர்களிடம்
விரும்புகின்றான் மஹிஷன் அன்பை உன்னிடம்.

தோள்வலிப் போர் புரிந்து துயர் அடையாதே!
தோளை வல்லியாகச் சுற்றி இன்புறுவாய் நீ!

மெலிந்த பொன்னுடல் தாங்குமா மஹிஷனின்
வலிய வீரத் தாக்குதல்களைப் போர்க் களத்தில்?

இளமைக்குரியது இன்பச் சுவை வாழ்வில்.
இளமையை வீணாகாதே துன்ப வாழ்வில்.

எந்த வேண்டும் கரங்களில் மலர்ச்செண்டு;
ஏந்தி உள்ளாய் கரங்களில் பல ஆயுதங்கள்.

விற்புருவமும், வேல்விழியும், இருக்கையில்
வில்லும், வேலும், வாளும் எதற்கு உனக்கு?

சுகம் பெற வேண்டும் நீங்கள் இருவரும்!
நிகரற்று விளங்க வேண்டும் இக உலகில்!

வெல்வான் மஹிஷன் உன்னை வீரப் போரில்!
வெல்வாய் நீ மஹிஷனைக் காதல் போரில்!

ஆசை மனைவி ஆகிவிடு மஹிஷனுக்கு!
பூசை செய்வான் உன்னை மலர்களால்.

மன்னன் ஆவான் உனக்குப் பிறக்கும் பிள்ளை
இன்னமும் நான் சொல்வதற்கு என்ன உள்ளது?”

5#11f. Thaamran meets Devi

Thaamran knew what type of a woman Devi was at the very first glance! He thought to himself,

“This woman is really valorous. Will she respect Mahishan? Will she love Mahishan? She looks like a goddess. Can she ever love the charcoal-colored and buffalo-faced Mahishan?

But I must attend to my job without giving vent to my own opinions and thoughts."

He spoke to Devi, “Mahishan wanted to fight with the Devaas. But now he wants only your love and affection. Do not destroy yourself by fighting with him. Instead become a creeper around the trunk of his body and enjoy love and life.

Your fragile body would not bear the cruel attacks in a war. Youth is for enjoying life and not for wasting it in wars and battles. You must be holding flower bouquets in your hands in stead of these gleaming sharp weapons.

Why do you need a bow and a spear when you already have bow-like eyebrows and so spear-like sharp darting eyes. You two must enjoy life and it pleasures. You to must be unmatched by anybody in the three worlds.

He will win over you easily in a war but you will win over him easily in a war of love. Become Mahishan’s wife. He will adore you as if you are a goddess. You son will become the next king. What more can I offer you?”

17a. வஜ்ஜிரவாகு.

சூரபத்மனின் தூதர்கள் நின்றனர்
போரைப் பார்த்தபடியே விண்ணில்.

ஆயிரந்தோளர் அழிந்த உடனேயே
பாய்ந்து சென்று செய்தியைக் கூறினர்.

வஜ்ஜிரவாகு பத்துத் தலை வீரன்;
வஜ்ஜிர உடல் சூரனின் இளையமகன்;

பொங்கி எழுந்தான் சூளுரைத்தான்,
“எங்கிருந்தாலும் பிடித்து வருவேன்!”

பூண்டான் போர்க்கோலம் வஜ்ஜிரவாகு.
சென்றான் படையுடன் வீரவாகுவைத் தேடி.

தோள்களைத் தட்டி வீரவாகு கொக்கரிக்கத்
துவண்டு போயினர் அவுண மறவர்கள்.

சூழ்ந்து கொண்டு போர் செய்தனர் மறவர்,
சுழன்று அடித்தார் மாமரத்தால் வீரவாகு.

குடுமிகளைப் பிடித்து அடித்தார் நிலத்தில்;
விடுத்த படைக்கலன்களை முறித்து எறிந்தார்.

பாதங்களால் பலமாகத் தேய்த்தார் பலரை,
குதித்தார் பல அவுணர்களின் தலை மீது.

பலவித சாகங்கள் செய்த வீரவாகு,
நால்வகைப் படையையும் அழித்தார்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

3 # 17 A. VAJRABAAHU.

The messengers of Soorapadman stood on the sky watching the outcome of the war between Veerabaahu and Sahasrabaahus.

When the Sahasrabaahus got killed, they rushed back to Soorapadman with the bad news.

Vajrabaahu was Soorpadman’s youngest son. He was valorous and had ten heads. He promised his father,
“I shall bring that messenger of Murugan.” He donned the armor and went with his army looking for Veerabaahu.

Veerabaahu was so happy to see the new batch of asuras. He clapped on his shoulders and roared so loudly that half the army went mad.

They surrounded Veerabaahu and started attacking him. Veerabaahu swirled a large tree. He grabbed the asuras by their knotted hair and dashed them on the ground.

He jumped on the heads of some others and crushed more asuras under his feet. He used several techniques and destroyed the asura army.

10a. கஜமுக அசுரன்

அசுரர்கள் தோற்றனர் தேவர்களிடம் போரில்;
அசுரர்கள் ஓடி ஒளிந்தனர் தேவருக்கு அஞ்சி.

தேவை அசுரர்களின் வாழ்வு மீண்டும் தழைக்கத்
தேவர்களை வெல்லும் வலிமையுடைய அசுரன்.

மாதவம் புரிந்து கொண்டிருந்தார் மாகதர்;
மகத்துவம் வாய்ந்த மகனைத் தரவல்லவர்.

அசுர கன்னி சென்று அவருடன் கூடினால்
அசர வைக்கும் அசுரர்கள் பலர் தோன்றுவர்.

விபுதை ஒரு மிக அழகிய அரக்கக் கன்னி;
விவரம் சொல்லி அனுப்பினர் முனிவரிடம்.

முனிவரின் தவத்தைக் கலைக்கவில்லை;
இனிய தவத்தில் எதிரே அமர்ந்தாள் அவள்.

தவம் கலைந்த முனிவர் கண்டது என்ன?
தாபத்துடன் கூடி மகிழும் இரு யானைகள்!

காம வசப்பட்டார் கண நேரத்தில் முனிவர்;
கண்டார் கண்ணெதிரில் அழகிய தபஸ்வினி!

"கணவனுடன் இளமையை அனுபவிக்காமல்
கானகத்தில் என்ன செய்கிறாய் பெண்ணே?"

"மணம் இன்னமும் ஆகவில்லை முனிபுங்கவா!
மனம் பறி போய்விட்டது உங்களைக் கண்டதும்.

மணந்தால் உங்களையே மணப்பது என்று
மனவுறுதியுடன் நான் காத்திருக்கிறேன்!"

தேனை நிகர்த்த இனிய மொழிகள்!
மானை நிகர்த்த சலிக்கும் விழிகள்!

ரதியையும் நாணச் செய்யும் மேனி எழில்;
குதி போடும் இளமையின் மதமதர்ப்பு கண்டு

தன்னையும் மறந்தார்; தவத்தையும் மறந்தார்;
பெண் யார் என்பதையும் கூட அறியவில்லை.

#40a. Gajamukha asuran

The asura were defeated by the Deva and went into hiding. To bring back their happy days, they needed powerful asuras who could win over the Deva.

Maagathar was doing severe penance. He could give might asura sons - if an asura kanya would go to him and infatuate him. Vibudha was a beautiful asura kanya. She was selected for this task and sent to the sage Maagathar.

Vibudha did not disturb the penance of Maagathar but sat in front of him like a tapasvini. When Maagathar came out of his penance, he saw two elephants playing amorously.

He was aroused by their sight. He then saw the beautiful tapasvini sitting in his front. He spoke to her,

"Why do you waste your youth and beauty in doing penance instead of enjoying with your husband?"

Vibudha replied," I am not yet married. You have stolen my heart. I can't marry anyone else. So I am waiting for you!"

Her words were sweeter than honey and her eyes were prettier than those of a doe. She was more beautiful than Rati Devi herself and he could not resist any more.

He forgot himself, he forgot his penance and he did not bother to find out who that beautiful girl really was!

5#12a. தேவியின் மறுமொழி (1)

கோபம் கொள்ளவில்லை ஜகன்மாதா – இவை
கேவலம் மஹிஷனின் சொற்கள் அன்றோ?

” கூறு உன் மன்னன் மஹிஷனிடம் சென்று,
அறிவற்ற எருமையின் மகன் அல்லவா நீ ?

புல், பூண்டு தின்னும் பெண் எருமையல்ல நான்!
வால், கொம்பு, பருத்த வயிறு இல்லை என்னிடம்!

எப்படி ஆசை கொண்டாய் என்னிடம் மஹிஷனே
இப்படி உன் குல லக்ஷணங்கள் இல்லாத போதும்?

விரும்பவில்லை நான் பிரமன், விஷ்ணுவை;
விரும்பவில்லை நான் வருணன், அக்கினியை.

காம வெறியூட்டும் கட்டழகு உடல் இருப்பதால்
காம வெறிகொண்டு விரும்புவேனோ உன்னை ?

உத்தமப் பெண் இணைவாள் இன்பம் துய்க்க
உத்தம நாயகனுடன், தனக்கு ஏற்றவனுடன்.

கலவி இன்பம் கருதி அணைக்க மாட்டாள்
கயவனனைக் காமுகனைக் கள்வனை!

அறிவாய் நான் ஒரு கன்னி அல்ல என்பதை!
அறிவாய் என் நாயகனின் பெருமைகளை.

தனக்கு மிஞ்சின தெய்வம் இல்லாதவன்;
தானே அனைத்துக்கும் கர்த்தா ஆனவன்;

எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் நிலையான சாக்ஷி;
எக்காலத்திலும் அழிவே இல்லாதவன்;

ஆசைகள் அற்ற பூரணப் பொருள் அவன்;
பூசனை செய்வதற்கு உகந்தவன் அவன்;

வேண்டுதல் வேண்டாமை இல்லாதவன்;
ஆண்டவனாக உலகை ஆள்பவன் அவன்;

எங்கும் நிறைந்தவன்; தாங்கும் ஆதாரம்;
ஏங்கும் பக்தனின் குறைகளைத் தீர்ப்பவன்;

கடவுள்களின் கடவுள் ஆவான் அவன்
விடையேறும் ஈசன் பரமசிவன் அவன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி

5#12a. Devi’s reply (1)

Devi did not get angry with minister Thaamran since he was only conveying the message sent by Mahishan. She replied to Thaamran thus:

Go and tell your king the mighty Mahishan these words. “You are the son of a buffalo with no power of discretion. I am not a female buffalo feeding on grass and leaves.

I do not have a tail or horns or a fat belly. How did you fall in
love with me even though I do not have any of those features considered most beautiful in your race?

I did not choose Brahma or Vishnu or Varuna or Agni. Will I fall for you even if you take the form of Manmathan? A virtuous woman would choose only a virtuous man for seeking pleasure.

She will not seek the company of a rogue or lustful man or a thief – just to gratify her senses. Know that I am a married woman. I shall relate the greatness of my husband now.

He has none equal to him or superior to him. He is the doer of everything. He is the Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. He is free from all desires. He is complete in himself.

He is the best god worthy of being worshiped. He has no likes or dislikes. He is the lord of everything. He supports everything. He rides on Nandi and his name is Parama Sivan the most auspicious among all the gods.”

17b. வஜ்ஜிரவாகு அழிவு.

வஜ்ஜிரவாகு வந்து எதிர்த்தான்;
வடிவைப் பெருக்கினார் தேவர்!

நகைத்துத் தீ எழ ஆரவாரித்தார்,
நடுநடுங்கினான் வஜ்ஜிரவாகு.

நாணொலி செய்தான் அவுணகுமரன்;
கணைகள் பறந்தன காற்றைப் போல்!

கணைகளைப் பற்றி ஒடித்தார் தேவர்.
வீணாகும் கணைகளால் சினந்தான்!

பாய்ந்து வந்த பதினாயிரம் கணைகள்
பொடிப்பொடி ஆகின எழுபடையால்.

பதினாயிரம் கணைகள் எழுபடைமேல்.
உதைத்து உடைத்தார் அவுணன் தேரை!

மாய்ந்தான் பாகன் குதிரைகளுடன்!
மற்றொரு தேரில் ஏறினான் வஜ்ஜிரவாகு.

மற்ற தேரையும் வீசினார் விண்ணில்.
பறந்த அவுணன் வீழ்ந்தான் மண்ணில்.

வில்லைப் பிடுங்கி முறித்து எறிந்தார்.
வீரன் கதையை முடித்தார் வீரவாகு!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி

3 # 17B. THE DEATH OF VAJRABAAHU.

Vajrabaahu fought all alone. Veerabaahu grew in his size one more time. He laughed and roared loudly.

Vajrabaahu twanged his bow string. He shot arrows with the speed of wind. Veerabaahu caught hold of the arrows and broke them with his bare hands.

Vajrabaahu became very angry. He shot ten thousand arrows but Veerabaahu dashed them all with his ezhupadai.

He kicked the chariot of Vajrabaahu killing the horses and the charioteer. Vajrabaahu climbed on to another chariot.

Veerabaahu threw the chariot in the air. Vajrabaahu fell on the ground heavily. Veerabahu broke his bow and killed him with his sword.
