5#7b. Devaa’s sthuti

The Devaas spoke to Brahma in unison,”Oh Brahma Deva! Don’t you know our plight after we ran away from the battle field ? Have you forgotten all about us already? You are our father! Please remember that always!”

Brahma consoled them and said, I am sure Siva and Vishnu will be able to help us. Let us go to meet them” Accordingly all of them went meet Siva in Kailash.

Brahma explained the plight of the Deva and asked for Siva’s suggestions. Siva had a hearty laugh and explained the reason why he had laughed. He told Brahma,

“You are the one who gives the boons and you are the one who complains about their consequences. You have given a boon that only a woman can kill Mahishan.

Do you know where such a woman lives? Do you know with whom she stays? You are the god of creation. Tell me now, have you created such a woman till now?

You say that asuraas are well versed in Maayaa but I tell you that Vishnu is well versed in Maayaa. Go to Vishnu and seek his help. I am sure he will come up with a solution to your problem”

A gentle breeze laden with the fragrance of the flowers blew. The sweet song of the birds filled the air. The sky and all the directions became bright and clear. All these formed the auspicious good omens for the Devaas.

7b. கயமுகனுடன் போர்.

கயமுகன் உரைத்ததையே உரைத்தார்
கயமுகனிடம், வீரவாகுத்தேவர் மீண்டும்.

மலையைப் பிடுங்கி வீசினான் கயமுகன்;
மலை தூள் தூளானது தோளில் பட்டதும்.

ஆற்றலைக் கண்டான், சீற்றம் கொண்டான்,
ஆயிரம் மலைகளை வீசினான் கயமுகன்.

தூணில் வீசிய மண்பாண்டங்கள் போல்,
வீணில் விழுந்து உடைந்தன குன்றுகள்.

தண்டாயுதத்தைக் கயமுகன் செலுத்த
தண்டத்தைத் துண்டாக்கினார் வீரவாகு.

ஆயிரம் மரங்களை ஆரவாரித்தபடி
ஆயிரம் துதிக்கைகளால் அவன் வீச,

கூர் வாளால் துண்டாக்கினார் தேவர்,
ஓர் ஆயிரம் துதிக்கைகளையும் அங்கு.

பிடித்து உண்ண நீட்டிய கரங்களைப்
பிடித்து அறுத்தார் வீரவாகுத்தேவர்.

மற்போர் செய்தனர் மதயானைகள் போல்.
மற்போரில் மடிந்தான் கயமுக அவுணன்.

கயமுகன் மடிந்ததும் அவுணர்கள்
பயமின்றி வந்து குவிந்தனர் போருக்கு!

நேரத்தைப் போர் புரிந்து வீணாக்காமல்
நேராக உள்ளே செல்ல வேண்டும் உடனே!

அணு உருவம் எடுத்தார் வீரவாகுத்தேவர்,
அமர்ந்தார் ஒரு உயர்ந்த கோபுரத்தின் மீது.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

3 # 7b. War with Gajamukhan.

Vaarabaahu repeated Gajamukhan’s threat. Gajamukhan became wild with anger and threw a hillock on Veerabaahu.

The hillock shattered to a thousand pieces when it hit his shoulder.

Gajamukhan threw a thousand hillocks on Devar. Each of them shattered like a mud pot thrown on a stone pillar.

The asura then threw his dhandam. Veerabaahu cut it into two with his sword. The asura grabbed one thousand trees in his thousand trunks and hurled them all on Veerabaahu Devar.

Devar cut off all his trunks with his sword. The asura put out two of his hands to catch hold of Devar. His hands too were promptly cut off. Then they engaged in wrestling and Veerabaahu killed the asura Gajamukha.


Asuraas arrived in large numbers ready to fight with Veerabaahu. But he did not want to waste any more time in such useless fighting. He wanted to enter the city soon. So he reduced himself to the size of an atom and sat on one of the tall towers.

 9l. பாலலீலைகள் (12)

புலியாக மாறி வந்தான் ஓரசுரன்;
கிலியால் நடுங்கினர் வனவாசிகள்.

அடித்துக் கொன்றது புலி அவர்களை;
அழிக்கச் சென்றது கணேசரின் பாசம்.

அழித்து விட்டது புலியாகிய அசுரனை;
இழுத்து வந்தது யமனைக் கணேசரிடம்.

“அடியேன் செய்த தவறு என்ன சுவாமி?
பிடித்து வந்தது பாசம் என்னை இங்கே!”

“பறித்தாய் ஆசிரமவாசிகளின் உயிரை;
பாசம் இழுத்து வந்தது அதனால் தான்.

“இழைக்கவில்லையே நான் அபசாரம்;
அளிக்கப்பட்ட தொழிலைச் செய்கிறேன்.

வாழ்நாள் முடிந்தவர்களை மட்டுமே,
வீழ்த்துவேன் எனக்கிட்ட ஆணைப்படி.

பிழை செய்திருந்தால் அறியாமையால்
பிழை பொறுத்து மன்னியுங்கள் சுவாமி!

“நெருங்கக் கூடாது என் பக்தர்களிடம்
மறந்துவிடாதே இதை இனியென்றுமே!

புலியால் கொல்லப் பட்டவர்கள் மீண்டும்
புவிமேல் வரவேண்டும் உயிருடன் மீண்டு.”

விட்டால் போதும் என்று ஓடி, உயிரோடு
விட்டு விட்டான் வனவாசிகளை யமன்.

கணேசரைக் கொல்ல வந்த அசுரன்
காது, மூக்கு அறுபட்டுச் சென்றான்.

சிந்துராஜனிடம் சென்று சொன்னான் தான்
சந்தித்த இன்னல்களை வெகு விவரமாக!

39L. Baala Leelaa (12)

An asuran came changed into a tiger. The people living in the forest were terrorized. The tiger killed many of them.

Ganesha released his psasam on the tiger. It killed the tiger, tied and dragged Yama to Ganesha.

“What is the crime I have committed of oh lord?” Yama asked Ganesha. “Why has your paasam dragged me here?”

“You killed the people living in this ashram. That is why you have been dragged here by my paasam” Ganesha replied to Yama.

“I have not committed any crime oh lord! I just did my duty and killed those whose life span had expired. If in performing my duty, I have committed any mistake, please forgive me.”

“Never go near my devotees. Always remember this in the future. All those who were killed by the tiger must be sent back here alive immediately!”

Yama agreed to this and hurried back to his world. He sent back alive all those people who got killed by the tiger.

Another asuran came to kill Ganesha. He barely escaped with his life but his ears and nose got chopped off. He returned to Sindhu Raajan alive and elaborated all his sufferings.

5#8a. தேவி வெளிப்பட்டாள் (1)

வைகுந்தம் சென்றனர் தேவர்கள் கூடி;
வைகுந்த வாசனிடம் வினவினர் இதை;

“வரம் பெற்றுள்ளான் மஹிஷன் பிரமனிடம்
மரணம் நிகழலாம் பெண்ணால் மட்டும் என!

உபாயம் கூறுங்கள் அசுரனை வெல்வதற்கு;
அபாய அசுரனை வெல்ல வல்லவள் யார்?”

“ஒன்றும் இல்லை நாம் செய்ய வல்லது;
ஒன்று உண்டு நம் சக்திகளை விஞ்சியது.

தருவாள் மஹாசக்தி அனைவருக்கும் சக்தி;
சேரும் அனைவர் சக்தியும் மஹாசக்தியில்.

தோன்றுவாள் பெண்வடிவில் மஹாசக்தி!
தோற்கடிப்பாள் மஹிஷனை மஹாசக்தி.

தோன்ற வல்லவள் சக்தி எங்கிருந்தும்;
தோன்ற வல்லவள் சக்தி எப்போதும்;

இருக்கின்றாள் அவள் எல்ல இடத்திலும்;
இருக்கின்றாள் அவள் தேஜோ மயமாக!

இருக்கின்றாள் ஒவ்வொருவரிடத்திலும்;
இருக்கின்றாள் ஒவ்வொரு செயலிலும்;

அறிவாள் அவள் நம் எண்ணங்களை நன்கு;
அறிந்து வெளி வருவாள் நமக்கு உதவிட!

சக்தி வெளிவந்தால் தந்து விடுவோம் நாம்
சக்திக்கு நம் ஆயுதங்கள் அனைத்தையும்.

சக்தி இல்லாதவருக்கு ஆயுதம் எதற்கு?
சக்திக்கே ஆயுதங்கள் பயன்படும் நன்கு!

சக்தி வெளிப்பட, வெளிப்பட வேண்டும்
சக்தி நாதராகிய முக்தி தாயகர் சிவன்."

5#8a. Devi emerged (1)

Brahma, Indra and the other Deva now went to Vaikuntam and met Lord Vishnu. They asked him,

“Mahishan has secured a rare boon from Brahma that no male can kill him. So none of us will be able to vanquish him. He may be killed by a woman. But is there such a woman? If so, who is she and where is she?”

Vishnu replied,” There is nothing any of us can do now. But there is a power which is superior to the power of all of us put together. It gives the power and energy to every other creature.

It is called as the Mahaa Shakti. All our shakti can merge with that Mahaa Shakti. It will appear as a woman and put an end to the wicked Mahishaasuran.

Shakti can appear from anywhere, at anytime in any manner. She resides in everything and in everyone. She performs every action. She exists in a luminous form. She knows our thoughts and our needs. She will surely emerge to help us.

We shall give her all our weapons when she emerges. Of what use is a weapon in the hands of a weakling with no Shakti? Our weapons will serve better in her hands.

For Shakti to emerge in front of us, first of all lord Siva must emerge here. "

Vishnu spoke thus to the Devaas gathered there.

8. நகர்வளம் காணல்.

அணு உருவெடுத்து அமர்ந்த தேவர்
அளவற்ற சிறப்பை அங்கே கண்டார்.

மேலான நால்வகைப் படைகளுடன்
ஏராள இன்ப நுகர்ச்சிப் பொருட்கள்!

பொன்னுலகத்துடன் போட்டி போட்டால்,
பின்னடையச் செய்யும் விஞ்சும் அழகால்!

மணிகள் இழைத்த மாளிகைகளில் – பெண்
மணிகளுடன் இன்பம் நுகரும் அவுணர்கள்;

விரும்பியவற்றை அளித்தன காமதேனு,
அரிய சிந்தாமணி பதுமநிதி ஆகியவை.

பலவித ஒலிகள் ஒன்றாகக் கலந்து
அலைகடல் போல் ஓசை ஒலித்தது.

உள்ளங்களைக் கொள்ளை கொள்ளும்
அள்ளமுடியாத ஒரு செல்வச் செழிப்பு.

முதியவர், வறியவர், நோயாளிகள்,
கதியற்றவர் எவரும் இல்லை அங்கே!

யாரும் கண்டிராத குளங்களாக பால்,
கருப்பஞ் சாற்றுடன், தயிர், நெய், மது.

தெருவில் குப்பையாக பொன்அணிகள்!
முருகன் விதித்த பணியை எண்ணினார்.

விண் வழியாக நகர் புகுந்தார் தேவர்.
வியந்தார் மந்திரி மாளிகைகள் கண்டு.

தருமகோபன் மாளிகையின் மேலிருந்து
வருந்தும் தேவர்கள் சிறையைக் கண்டார்.

3 # 8. The prosperity of the city.

Veerabaahu who was now the size of an atom witnessed the prosperity of the city Veera mahendram. The chaturanga sena protected it well.

The city was filled with objects of sensual enjoyment. It would put to shame even the swarga of the Deva.

The palatial houses were decorated with precious gems. The asura were enjoying the company of their womenfolks.

Kamadhenu, Chintaamani and Padumanidhi gave whatever anyone wished for.

The various sounds merged and produced a humming sound like the waves of an ocean.The richness and the beauty of the city was mesmerizing Veerabaahu.

The old, the infirm and the sick people did not exist in the city. The ponds there were filled with milk, sugar cane juice, curds, ghee and madhu for the enjoyment of everyone there.

The streets were littered with the gold ornaments thrown carelessly. Veerabaahu remembered his mission and entered the city.

He was wonder-struck by the beauty of the palaces occupied by the ministers of Soorapadman.

From the top of the palace of Dharmagopan, he could see the prison in which the Devas were locked up.

 9m. கனலாசுரன்

சபையில் இருந்தவர்கள் கேட்டனர்
சபைக்கு வந்த அசுரன் குறைகளை.

“ஒருவராலும் கொல்ல முடியவில்லை;
ஒருவரையும் விட்டு வைக்கவில்லை.

மாயவிக் குழந்தை தான் கணேசன்;
மாய்க்கும் வழியும் தெரியவில்லை.”

நொந்து போயிருந்த சிந்து ராஜனை
நோகடித்தன இந்த வார்த்தைகள்!

“அழித்திருக்க வேண்டும் பிறந்த அன்றே!
அழித்திருக்க வேண்டும் நானே சென்று! ”

“கனலாசுரன் இருக்கையில் கவலை ஏன்?
கனலை ஒத்த பராக்கிரமம் கொண்டவன்.

வரம் பெற்றவன், மரணம் இல்லாதவன்,
வீரம் நிறைந்தவன், வெற்றிகொள்பவன்!”

கவலைகளை மறந்தான் சிந்துராஜன்;
கட்டித் தழுவினான் கனலாசுரனை.

அசுரவீரர்கள் படை நடந்தனர் உடனே;
ஆசிரமவாசிகள் மீது ஆரவாரத்துடன்.

துதித்தனர் அனைவரும் பரமசிவனை;
அளித்தார் சூலயுதத்தைக் கணேசனுக்கு.

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் தோற்றுவித்தார்
சேனைகள் நால்வகையினரை கணேசன்!

கையில் பரசு, பாச, அங்குசத்துடன் அவர்
மயில் மீது ஆரோஹணித்துச் சென்றார்.

தொடங்கி நடந்தது கடுமையான போர்.
தொடங்கினர் அசுரர் மாயப் போரினை.

39m. Baala Leelaa (13)

All the asuras gathered in the durbar listened to the tale of woes related by the asuran – who managed to come back alive.

“No one could kill Ganesha, but he manages to kill everyone sent by us. He is a tricky child no doubt. None of us can figure out a fruitful plan to do away with him”

Sindhu Raajan was already gloomy and this made him gloomier and sadder. He spoke to himself aloud, ‘ I must have killed him the day he was born. I must have gone by myself to do it!’

One of his ministers spoke to him, “Why do you worry oh king? We still have Kanalaasuran among us. He has as much power as the burning fire. He has received several boons. He has no death. He is valorous and he has never been defeated by anyone.”

Sindhu Raajan became happy on heaing these words. He hugged Kanalaasuran. The army of asura started walking towards the ashram almost immediately.

Those who lived in the ashram took refuge in lord Siva. He gave Ganesha his Soolaayudham and blessed him. Ganesha created a huge chaturanga sena just by his sankalpam. He sat on his peacock with his parasu, paasam and ankusam and went to the battle field.

A terrible war followed and the asuras started doing war by trickery.

5#8b. தேவி வெளிப்பட்டாள் (2)

தோன்றினான் பரமாத்மாவாகிய சிவபெருமான்;
தோத்திரம் செய்தனர் குழுமியிருந்த தேவர்கள்.

வெளிப்பட்டாள் தேவி தேவர்களிடமிருந்து;
வெளிப்பட்டாள் தனித்தனி சக்தியின் வடிவில்.

தோன்றியது பிரமன் முகத்திலிருந்து சக்தி
ரத்த நிறம் கொண்டு; பத்மராக ஒளியுடன்!

தோன்றியது விஷ்ணுவின் உடலிலிருந்து
வெண்மை நிறத்தோடு, சத்துவ குணத்தோடு!

தோன்றியது சிவபிரானின் உடலிலிருந்து
வெண்மை நிறத்தோடு, தமோ குணத்தோடு!

தோன்றியது இந்திரனின் உடலிலிருந்து
சித்திர வடிவாக, சகல குண சம்பத்துடன்!

தோன்றியது அஷ்ட திக்பாலகர்களிடமிருந்து
விவித வர்ண கிரணங்களின் ஜுவாலையோடு!

வெளிப்பட்ட தேஜோ ராசிகள் ஒன்று கலந்து
ஒளிப் பிழம்பாக நின்றது தேவர்கள் முன்பு.

வெளிப்பட்டாள் ஒளிப் பிழம்பிலிருந்து
ஒளிரும் முகத்தோடு, கருவிழிகளோடு,

பவள உதடுகளோடு, பதினெட்டுக் கரங்களோடு,
பல ஆபரணங்களோடு, புவன மோஹினியாக;

மும்மை குணங்களோடு; மும்மை நிறங்களோடு;
மனோஹரமான வடிவெடுத்து, ஈடுயிணையற்று!

வெளிப்பட்ட சக்திகள் ஒன்று திரண்டன – அதில்
வெளிப்பட்டாள் ஒளி வீசிடும் மஹாசக்தியாக.

5# 8b. Devi emerged! (2)

Lord Siva appeared in front of the assembled Deva and they all sang his praise.

Now the sakti of each and every Deva emerged from his body as a visible light energy.

From Brahma’s face appeared a red colored energy with the brilliance of Padmaraaga.

From Vishnu’s body appeared a shakti white in color and filled with satva gunam.

From Siva’s body appeared an energy white in color and filled with Tamo gunam.

From Indra’s body appeared an energy laden with all the guna sampth.

From the Ashta Dikpaalakas appeared energy in various colors emitting brilliant jawala.

Al the energy fused together and stood there as a blinding brilliance in front of the Deva.

From that brilliance emerged Mahaa Shakti Devi. She had a glowing face, beautiful black eyes, coral red lips, eighteen arms, several ornaments and had the three gunas and three colors.

She was a beauty nonpareil and as a Mohini in all the three worlds.

9a. ஜயந்தன்.

பானுகோபனால் சிறைப்பிடிக்கப்பட்டு
பன்னெடுங்காலம் சிறையில் வாடினர்

ஜயந்தன் முதலிய தேவர்களின் குழாம்.
மயங்கினர் துயரக் கடலில் வீழ்ந்தனர்.

“சுவர்க்க போகங்கள் பறிபோயின!
சுவர்க்கமே எறிந்து சாம்பலானது!

அன்னை, தந்தை எங்கே உள்ளனர்?
என்னை விடுவிக்க வருவார்களா?”

சிறைக் காவலர் வந்தனர் அங்கு!
சிறைப்பட்ட தேவரைச் சினந்தனர்.

“இந்திரன், இந்திராணி எங்கே உள்ளனர்?
தந்திரம் செய்யாமல் சொல்லிவிடுங்கள்!

எந்த உலகில் அவர்கள் ஒளிந்திருந்தாலும்
இந்தக் கணமே அதை நீவீர் கூறவேண்டும்!”

“விண்ணுலகை விட்டு ஓடியது உண்மையே.
பின்னர் நடந்ததை யாம் அறிகிலோம்!”

கூற மறுத்ததால் கோபம் அடைந்தனர்.
சிறைப்பட்ட தேவர்களைத் துன்புறுத்தினர்.

உடலைச் சேதித்தனர் பல வழிகளில்!
கடைந்தனர் காதில் விட்டுத் தோமரத்தை!

மார்பில் அடித்தனர்; ஓங்கி அறைந்தனர்.
சேர்த்து மோதித் தலையைத் தாக்கினர்.

3 # 9 a. Jayanthan in prison.

The devas captured by Bhaanukoban withered in the prison.
Jayanthan lamented,

” We lost our life of luxury in the heaven. The heaven has been burned down to ashes. I have no idea where my parents are now! Will my father come to release me from this prison?”

Then the asura soldiers came there. They demanded to know about the hiding place of Indra and Indraani.

When the Devaas denied any knowledge about their hiding place, the soldiers became very angry and started torturing the Devaas.

They cut off the body parts of the Devaas, they drilled into the ears of the Devaas, hit them on the chest and banged their heads together.

 9n. பாலலீலைகள் (14)

நாகாஸ்திரத்தை எய்தான் கனலாசுரன்;
நாகாஸ்திரத்தை அழித்தது கருடாஸ்திரம்.

வாளேந்தி எதிர்த்த அசுரனின் ஓங்கியகை
வாளுடன் வீழ்ந்தது தரையில் அறுபட்டு.

உண்டாயினர் ரத்தத்திலிருந்து அசுரர்கள்!
உண்டது அவர்களை மூன்றாவது கண் தீ!

ருத்திராஸ்திரத்தை எய்தான் கனலாசுரன்;
பத்திரமாகப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டார் கணேசன்.

தண்டத்தால் அடிக்க ஓடி வந்த அசுரனைத்
துண்டித்தது கணேசர் விடுத்த சூலாயுதம்.

சிந்து ராஜன் கலங்கினான் செய்தி கேட்டு;
நொந்து நூலானான் பொங்கும் அச்சத்தால்!

கட்டளையிட்டான் தன் அடிமைகளான
கதிரவன், நிலவு, வருணன், வாயு, தீயை.

“செல்லக் கூடாது திரிசந்தி க்ஷேத்திரம்!”
செல்வதை நிறுத்தி விட்டனர் ஐவரும்.

சூரிய, சந்திரர் உதிக்கவில்லை அங்கே!
நீரோ, காற்றோ, தீயோ இல்லை அங்கே!

முனிவர்கள் பணிந்த்னர் கணேசனை;
முனிவர்கள் துயர் தீர்த்தான் கணேசன்!

தோன்றினர் கதிரவன், வாயு ,மேகங்கள்,
கணேசனின் வலது திருவிழியிலிருந்து!

தோன்றினர் அக்னியும், சந்திரனும்,
கணேசனின் இடது திருவிழியிலிருந்து!

“சிந்து ராஜன் என்னைத் தேடி வராததால்,
சிந்து ராஜனைத் தேடி நானே செல்வேன்!”

அறிந்தார் கணேசனின் கருத்தைச் சிவன்,
தோற்றுவித்தார் ஒரு கோடி பூதங்களை.

மயூரத்தின் மேல் அமர்ந்து சென்றான் கணேசன்,
முருகன், நந்தி, வீரபத்திரர் மற்றும் பூதர்களுடன்.

#39n. Baala Leelaa (14)

Kanalaasuran shot at Ganesha his Naagaasthram. Ganesha’a Garudaasthram destroyed it. Kanalaasuran attacked Ganesha with his mighty sword but the hand that held the sword was cut off by Ganesha.

From the blood that spilled more asuras emerged. Ganesha opened his fiery third eye and dried up the spilled blood before any more asuras could emerge.

The asuran shot the Rudraasthram. Ganesha received it deftly and added it to his own collection of asthrams. The asuran came charging madly with his dandam. The soolayudham released by Ganesha killed the asuran on the spot.

Sindhu Raajan became very upset on hearing the death of Kanalaasuran. He was both frightened and angry. He ordered the Sun, the Moon, The fire, the air and the water who were his slaves, “Do not enter Trisandhi kshetram anymore!” They promptly stopped entering the Trisandhi kshetram.

There was no sun or moon and no day or night. There was no air to breath, water to drink and fire to cook and perform yaga or yagna.

The people living in the ashram took refuge in Ganesha. He created all the missing things from his own body. The Sun, the air and the clouds emerged from Ganesha’s right eye. The moon and the agni emerged from his left eye.

Ganesha decided that if Sindhu Raajan was unwilling to come to him, he himself would go to meet Sindhu Raajan. Siva knew his decision and created ten million boothaa ganaas to go with him to the battle field.

Ganesha left on his peacock along with Murugan, Nandhi and Veerabadra and the ten million bootha ganaas.

5#8c. தேவியின் ஸ்வரூபம்

அளவிட முடியாது தேவியின் அழகை நம்மால்!
தெளிவாக்க முடியாது அங்க லாவண்யங்களை!

தனக்கு என ஒரு உருவம் இல்லாதவள் அவள்;
தனக்கு விருப்பமான உருவத்தை எடுப்பவள்.

திருவருள் புரிவாள் கர்ம வினைப்படி – அவள்
திருப் பெயர்களோ எண்ணில் அடங்காதவை.

மகிஷனை வதைக்கத் தோன்றிய தேவியின்
தேஹ அழகைக் கூறுவேன் நான் இப்போது.

திருமுகத்தில் ஒளிரும் சங்கரனின் தேஜஸ்;
கருமுகில் கூந்தலில் யமனின் தேஜோராசி;

புருவங்களில் சந்த்தியா தேவியின் தேஜஸ்;
கருவிழிகள் மூன்றில் அக்னியின் தேஜஸ்;

எள்ளுப்பூ நாசியில் குபேரனின் தேஜஸ்,
முத்துப் பல் வரிசையில் பிரமனின் தேஜஸ்,

மேல் உதட்டில் ஒளிரும் முருகனின் தேஜஸ்;
கீழ் உதட்டில் ஒளிரும் அருணனின் தேஜஸ்;

பதினெட்டுக் கரங்களில் விஷ்ணுவின் தேஜஸ்;
மதியொளி வீசும் நகங்களில் வசுக்களின் தேஜஸ்;

பொற்குடங்கள் இரண்டில் சந்திரனின் தேஜஸ்,
சிற்றிடையில் ஒளிர்ந்தது இந்திரனின் தேஜஸ்;

தொடை, முழங்கால்களில் வருணனது தேஜஸ்;
அடைந்தது நிதம்பத்தை விபுலனுடைய தேஜஸ்;

வெளிப்பட்டன தேஜோரசிகள் ஆயுதங்களிலிருந்து;
அளித்தனர் ஆயுதங்களைத் தேவியின் கரங்களில்!

பதினெட்டு ஆயுதங்கள் தாங்கி நின்ற தேவியை
பணிந்து நின்றது குழுமிய தேவர்களின் சமூஹம்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி

5#8c. Devi’s swaroopam

One cannot describe the beauty of the Mahaa Shakti Devi.
One cannot describe the beauty of her lovely limbs.

Devi has no form of her own but will take any form she wishes to assume. She gives her grace in accordance to the effects of our poorma karma. Her names are more than we can count.

I shall try to describe the beauty of the Devi who had appeared to put an end to the arrogant Mahishaasuran.

The tajas of Sankaran shone on her face.
The tajas of Yama shone on her dense black curly hair.

The tajas of Sandhya Devi shone on her two lovely eye brows.
The tajas of Agni shone in her three jet black eyes.

The tajas of Kubera shone on her lovely straight nose.
The tajas of Brahma shone on her two rows of pretty pearly teeth.

The tajas of Subramanya shone on her upper lip.
The tajas of Arunan shone on her lower lip.

The tajas of Vishnu shone on her eighteen arms.
The tajas of Ashta Vasus shone on her luminous nails.

The tajas of Chandran shone on her firm young breasts.
The tajas of Indra shone on her beautiful narrow waist

The tajas of Varuna shone on her thighs and knees
The tajas of Vipula shone on her lower back.

The tejas emerged from all the aayudams of all the Devaas.
All the aayudams were presented to Devi by the Devaas.

Devi stood there in her full glory sporting an aayudam in each of her eighteen arms.

All the Devaas praised and prostrated to the all powerful Mahaa Shakti Devi.
 
KANDA PURAANAM - MAHENDRA KANDAM

9b. ஜயந்தன் புலம்புதல்.

தண்டனை அளித்தவர் தளர்ந்து போயினர்;
உண்ட அமுதம் தேவர்களைக் காத்தது.

ஒறுப்பதால் ஒரு பயனும் இல்லை!
சிறைக் காவலில் வைத்தனர் மீண்டும்.

சிவனை நினைவு கூர்ந்தான் ஜயந்தன்;
அவனை நினைத்துப் புலம்பலானான்.

“கங்கையைச் சடைமேல் அணிந்தவரே!
திங்களைத் தலை மேல் தாங்கியவரே!

தொண்டர்கள் துயரைத் தீர்ப்பவரே!
கண்ணுதற்பிரானே! காத்தருளும்.

உம்மைத் தவிர யார் உளர் வல்லவர்
எம்மை இடர்களிலிருந்து காப்பதற்கு?

எந்த மேன்மையும் தேவை இல்லை
இந்த இடரை மட்டும் நீக்குவாய் நீ.

விண்ணுலக வாழ்வு வேண்டாம்!
விண்ணுலக போகங்கள் வேண்டாம்.

தவம் செய்து அடைவேன் திருவடி.
தாரும் உமதருளை எனக்கு உடனடி.”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
KANDA PURAANAM - MAHENDRA KANDAM

3 # 9 b. Jayanthan laments.

The asuras who were punishing the devas grew tired. The nectar protected the devas and their limbs grew back as soon as they were cut off.

The soldiers locked them up again – since it was no use trying to punish the devas.

Jayanthan remembered lord Siva and started lamenting thus.
“Oh lord who sports Ganga on his matted coils of hair, who adorns his head with the crescent moon, who protects his devotees from dangers, who has a third eye in the beautiful forehead! Who but you can protect us?

Just free us from our present troubles. We do not seek anything else. We do not desire a life of luxury in heaven. We will do penance and and reside under your lotus feet. Save us now!”
