4g. சிந்தாமணி
முனிவரின் அழைப்பினை ஏற்று வந்தனர்;
இனிய முனிவரைப் பணிந்து வணங்கினர்;
“கணன் என் பெயர்; அபிஜித் ராஜனின் மகன்;
களைத்து விட்டோம் காட்டில் வேட்டையாடி!
தண்ணீரைத் தேடி வந்தோம் இச்சோலைக்கு;
பண்ணிய புண்ணிய வசமே தங்கள் தரிசனம்!”
“பசியுடன் திரும்பலாகாது என் அதிதிகள்;
பரிவாரங்களை வரச் சொல் விருந்துக்கு!
செல்லலாம் திரும்பித் தலை நகருக்கு;
மெல்ல உணவுண்டு களைப்பாறிய பின்”
அணிந்திருந்தார் தன் மார்பில் கபிலர்
அற்புத ரத்தினம் ஆகிய சிந்தாமணியை.
சிந்தையில் நினைத்ததை அளித்திடும்,
விந்தைத் திறன் படைத்த அற்புத மணி.
ஆசனத்தில் அமைத்தார் சிந்தாமணியை;
பூசித்தார் அதை அன்புடனும், பக்தியுடனும்.
அழகிய நகரம் உருவானது சோலையில்!
பழகிய வசதிகள் நிறைந்துள்ள நகரம்!
கண்டதில்லை அந்த உணவு வகைகளை;
உண்டதில்லை அந்த அறுசுவையினை!
நினைத்ததைத் தரும் சிந்தாமணி கணன்
நினைவில் நிலைத்து பேராசை ஊட்டியது!
முனிவரை வணங்கிச் சொன்னான் கணன்,
“மணியால் யாது பயன் உமக்கு முனிவரே?
மூவுலகாளும் என்னிடம் அது இருந்தால்
மூவுலகமும் பயன் பெறும் சிந்தாமணியால்”

GaNan and his soldiers went to meet Sage Kapilar. GaNan paid his respects and introduced himself as the son of King Abhijith and explained his purpose of visit to the forest.
The kind sage told him, “You must be very hungry and tired. None of my guests ever leave this ashram with pangs of hunger. All of you can eat, relax and the return to your capital”
Kapilar was wearing a rare gem on his chest called ChintaamaNi. It could give anything the wearer wished for. Sage Kapilar kept the ChintaamaNi on a befitting seat and worshiped it with bhakti and love.
A city appeared in the garden. It was fit for a king and his army with every convenience they were used to. Enough food appeared to feed all the group. No one had ever seen such varieties nor tasted such an excellent food.
The rare gem made GaNan covet to posses it. He told the sage,”You are living in the forest in seclusion. What is the use of keeping this rare gem here? If it is with me, it will serve and fulfill all the needs of my citizens.”

மனம் ஒன்றிக் கேள் இனி நான் கூறுவதை!
துஷ்டர்கள் அதிகரித்து விட்டனர் உலகினில்
கஷ்டம் அடைந்தாள் பூமித் தாய் அதனால்;
பசுவின் உருவெடுத்துச் சென்றாள் அவள்
பயந்த வண்ணம் இந்திரன் முன்னால்.
“அஞ்சுவது ஏன் பூமித் தாயே? அஞ்சித்
தஞ்சம் புகுவது ஏன் கூறு!” என்றான்.
“அழிக்கின்றனர் பூமியில் தர்மத்தை!
பழிக்கின்றனர் பூமியில் நீதிநெறிகளை.
பகைமை கொண்டு திரிகின்றனர் பலர்,
மமதை கொண்டு அலைகின்றனர் பலர்.
ஒளித்தான் என்னை ஹிரண்யாக்ஷன்
அலை கடல் நீரில் முன்பு ஒரு நாளில்.
இருந்திருப்பேன் அங்கேயே கவலையின்றி!

தங்க முடியவில்லை பாவிகளின் சுமையை;
ஓங்கி விடுவான் கலி புருஷனும் விரைவில்!
மூழ்கி உள்ளேன் துக்க சாகரத்தில் – என்னை
வாழ்விக்க யார் உளார் கூறு இந்திரா!” என,
“பிரமன் உதவுவான் உறுதியாக!” என்றான்.
பிரமனிடம் சென்றனர் தேவர்கள் பூமியுடன்.
பிரமன் வருந்தினான் கண்ணீர்க்கதை கேட்டு

4#17a. Mother Earth in tears!
Sage Vyaasaa replied thus: “Oh King Janamejaya! I will clarify all these doubts riddling your mind. No listen to me carefully.
As the number of wicked people increased in the world, The Mother Earth became very sad. She assumed the form of a cow and went to meet Indra with some apprehension.
Indra asked, “Why are you afraid Oh Mother Earth? What is bothering you and what had brought you here?”
The Mother Earth replied,” The men on earth have no respect for Dharma any more. They make fun of justice. They roam around filled with hatred, animosity and ego.
HiraNyaakshan had hid me under the sea water once. I could have just stayed there happily free of sorrows. But VishNu brought me out and reestablished me in my position.
I am not able to tolerate the burden of these sinners. Soon Kali Purushan will become stronger and make the matters worse. Who will lessen my burden and rid me of sorrows please tell me Indra!”
Indra reassured her, “Surely Brahma will help you. Let us go to him now” They all went to meet Brahma. He too was moved by the tearful tale related by the Mother Earth.
Brahma said. “Surely VishNu the protector will help us. Let us go to him now!” So they all went to meet VishNu with the Mother Earth.

26. வேடதாரி முனிவன்.
சொல்லின் செல்வர் அகத்தியர் வருகையை
வில்வலனும், வாதாபியும் அறிந்திருந்தனர்.
ருசித்துப் புசிக்க முடிவு செய்தனர் அவரை,
ருத்திராக்ஷப் பூனை ஆனான் வில்வலன்.
தலையில் தொங்கும் ஜடாமுடி, திருநீறு,
பலவித ருத்திராக்ஷ மாலைகள் மார்பில்;
மரவுரி இடையில் முனிவனைப் போலவே,
விரைந்து சென்றான் அகத்திய முனிவரிடம்,
“என் இல்லம் வந்து அங்கு விருந்து அருந்தி
என் இல்லத்தைப் புனிதமாக்க வேண்டும்!”
ஆடாக மலைச்சாரலில் மேய்ந்திருந்த
ஆட்டு முக வாதாபியை இழுத்து வந்தான்.
பலவித கறிகள் பக்குவம் ஆக்கினான்.
உளமார முனிவனுக்கு உணவாக அளித்தான்.
பொற்கலங்களில் பரிமாறினான் உணவை.
அற்புதமான இன்மொழிகள் புகன்றான்.
உணவு வகைகளைத் தூய்மைப்படுத்தி
உணவு அருந்தினார் அகத்திய முனிவர்.
வழக்கம் போல் வாதாபி வயிற்றினுள்
முழு வடிவம் பெற்று எழுந்து அமர்ந்தான்.
அவுணர்களின் சதியை அறிந்த முனிவர்
“அழிந்தொழிக வாதாபி!” எனச் சாபமிட,
கடல் குடித்த குறுமுனியின் சிறு வயிற்றில்
குடல் ஜீரணம் செய்து விட்டது வாதாபியை.
தம்பி ஜீரணம் ஆனதை அறிந்து கொண்டு
தன் சுய வடிவெடுத்தான் வில்வலன் அங்கு.
தடியால் அடித்துக் கொல்ல வந்தான் அவரை.
படைக்கலம் ஆக்கினார் ஒரு சிறு தர்ப்பையை!
சிவப் படைக் கலத்துக்குப் பலியாகினான் அவன்;
சவமாக விழுந்தான் அண்ணன் வில்வலன்.
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
26. வேடதாரி முனிவன்.
சொல்லின் செல்வர் அகத்தியர் வருகையை
வில்வலனும், வாதாபியும் அறிந்திருந்தனர்.
ருசித்துப் புசிக்க முடிவு செய்தனர் அவரை,
ருத்திராக்ஷப் பூனை ஆனான் வில்வலன்.
தலையில் தொங்கும் ஜடாமுடி, திருநீறு,
பலவித ருத்திராக்ஷ மாலைகள் மார்பில்;
மரவுரி இடையில் முனிவனைப் போலவே,
விரைந்து சென்றான் அகத்திய முனிவரிடம்,

சவமாக விழுந்தான் அண்ணன் வில்வலன்.

Vilavalan and Vaathaapi knew about the sage Agasthya’s visit. They decided to kill him and eat him as usual.
Vilvalan dressed up as a sage. He had jada in his matted hair, holy ash on his forehead, rudraaksham in his neck and maravuri in his waist.
He requested the sage to take food in his hut. The sage agreed. He then fetched his brother vaataapi who was grazing – transformed to a lamb.
Vilvalan cooked the lamb into many tasty dishes and offered them to the sage on a plate of gold with great affection. Vaataapi regained his form as well as life once he was inside the sage’s stomach.
Agasthyar realized the trick played by the two brothers. He cursed that Vaathaapi should be destroyed in his stomach. Vaataapi got digested by the rushi’s jataraagni.
Vilavalan took his real form and pounced on the rushi to beat him to death.
Agasthya chanted a mantra and transformed a kusa grass into the ashtram of Siva.
Vilvlan fell dead by the asthra.

“உயிரைக் கேள் தருகிறேன் மன்னா!
உனக்கு வசப்படாது சிந்தாமணி!” என
கண்ணால் கண்டு விரும்பிய பொருளை
மண்ணாள் அரசன் விட்டு விடுவானா?
“வல்லான் வகுத்ததே வாய்க்கால்” போல்
வலிமையால் அபகரித்தான் மணியை!
மணியுடன் திரும்பினான் நாடு - இட்டார்
முனிவர் மனம் வருந்தியதால் சாபம்!
“இனிய என் இறைவன் மண்ணில் வந்து
மனிதனாகப் பிறந்து அழிப்பான் உன்னை!”
கடும் தவத்தில் ஈடுபட்டார் கபிலமுனிவர்;
சுடும் தீ ஜ்வாலையாகக் காட்சி அளித்தாள்
சாருஹாசினி என்னும் விஷ்ணு மாயை!
அருள் கூர்ந்து கூறினாள் கபிலமுனியிடம்,
“பிரானிடம் வரங்கள் பெற்றுள்ள கணனை
பிரம்மாதி தேவர்களால் அழிக்க இயலாது!
ஆதிகாரணனான விநாயகர் மட்டுமே
அழிக்க வல்லவர் கணனை அறிவீர்!
தவம் செய்வீர் விநாயகர் மீது!” எனத்
தாயினும் பரிந்து கூறினாள் மாயை.
“தருவீர் தவம் செய்யும் விதிமுறையை!”
திருமந்திரத்தை உபதேசித்தாள் மாயை.
“துதியுங்கள் பதினெட்டு லக்ஷம் முறை!
துதிக்கையன் தருவான் திவ்ய தரிசனம்!”
முறைப்படி ஜபித்துச் செய்தார் ஹோமம்;
குறைவின்றி நிறைவுற்றன வழிபாடுகள்!
மன்மத விக்ரஹத்தைப் போன்று கண்முன்
விக்னராஜர் தோன்றினார் தேவியர்களுடன்.

#34h. Kapilar’s penance
“It will easier for me to part with my life than to part with ChintaamaNi” the sage Kapilar told the Ganan. But once a king … always a king! If any king sets his eyes on any thing superior, he simply must possess it. Ganan took away the ChintaamaNi by sheer force.
Sage Kapilar felt very hurt by the treacherous way his kindness was repaid by GaNan and his army. He cursed GaNan, “The lord whom I worship will be born on earth as a man and destroy you!”
Kapilar started doing severe penance. Vishnu Maya appeared to him as a Jwaala of fire and told the sage, “Ganan has got several boons from lord Siva. He can not be destroyed by Indra or any Deva or even by Brahma and Vishnu. Only Vinayaka is capable of destroying him. So pray to Vinayaka!”
“Please tell me the right manner to pray to him” the sage requested Vishnu Maya. She taught him the holy mantra and said “If you do japam of this mantra eighteen lakh times, Vinayaka will give you his dharshan”
Kapilar started his penance, japam and homam and completed them successful. Vinayaka appeared before him – more beautiful than Manmatha himself – along with his two Devis Siddhi and Buddhi.
#34h. Kapilar’s penance
“It will easier for me to part with my life than to part with ChintaamaNi” the sage Kapilar told the Ganan. But once a king … always a king! If any king sets his eyes on any thing superior, he simply must possess it. Ganan took away the ChintaamaNi by sheer force.

“Please tell me the right manner to pray to him” the sage requested Vishnu Maya. She taught him the holy mantra and said “If you do japam of this mantra eighteen lakh times, Vinayaka will give you his dharshan”
Kapilar started his penance, japam and homam and completed them successful. Vinayaka appeared before him – more beautiful than Manmatha himself – along with his two Devis Siddhi and Buddhi.

உதித்தார் வானில் கருடாரூடராக விஷ்ணு.

துஷ்ட மன்னர்கள் செய்கின்றனர் அட்டஹாசம்.
பூ பாரத்தினைக் குறைத்தருள வேண்டும்!
பூமியின் துயரைத் தீர்த்தருள வேண்டும்!”
பிரமன் விண்ணப்பித்தான் விஷ்ணுவிடம்,
பிரமனுக்கு உரைத்தான் விஷ்ணு இதனை.
“சுதந்திரன் அல்ல நீயும் இந்த விஷயத்தில்!
சுதந்திரன் அல்ல நானும் இந்த விஷயத்தில்!
பிரபஞ்சம் வசப்பட்டது யோக மாயைக்கு !
பிரமனே முதலில் இதை நினைவில் கொள்!
சுதந்திரம் எனக்கு இருந்திருந்தால் – நான்
விதியே என்று சென்று பிறப்பேனா உலகில்?
ஆமையாக, பன்றியாக, மீனாக ஒருவன்
அவதரிப்பதில் என்ன சுகம் இருக்க முடியும்?
நரசிங்கமாக வடிவெடுத்துக் கொன்றேன்
இரண்யனை வெறும் நகங்களினால் கீறி.
பரசுராமனகப் பிறந்து சினந்து அழித்தேன்
பாரினில் க்ஷத்திரியர்களே இல்லாதவாறு.
ராமனாகப் பிறந்து வனம் சென்றேன் – அங்கு
காமாந்தகன் கடத்தினான் மனைவி சீதையை!
அழுது திரிந்தேன் வனம் எங்கும் – நான்

தவத்தைப் போன்றே அத்தோஷங்களை!
லிங்கத்தை அமைத்து செய்த பூஜையால்
அங்கு அகன்றன அகத்தியர் குற்றங்கள்;
நாரதர் கண்டார் அகத்தியரின் செயலை,
விரைந்து சென்றார் அமரர் கோனிடம்
மூங்கிலில் மறைந்து வாழ்ந்த இந்திரன்
முடி அவர் அடியில் படத் தொழுதான்.
மலர்கள் தந்த தன் நந்தவனம் காய்ந்து
நலம் குலைந்து நிற்பதைச் சொன்னான்.
“கொங்கு நாட்டில் உள்ள குறுமுனிவர்
திங்கள் அணி பிரானைத் தொழுகின்றார்;
பொங்கும் காவிரிநதி அடைபட்டுள்ளது
அங்கு அவர் கமண்டலத்தில் இந்திரா!
இங்கே காவிரிநதி வந்து பாய்ந்தால்
சிங்கார நந்தவனம் செழிக்கும் மீண்டும்.”
“காவிரியை எங்ஙனம் பாய்ந்து வந்து
பூவிரி வனத்தை அடையச் செய்வது?”
“யானைமுகப் பெருமானைச் சரணடை!
ஏனத்து நதியைப் பாயச் செய்வார் அவர்.
காவிரி நதி பாய்ந்து பூவிரி வனம் வரும்.
ஆவியை அறுக்கும் கவலை ஒழிப்பாய்!”

Vilavalan and Vaataapi were the sons of Durvasa. Hence sage Agasthya was afflicted by the Brahma haththi dosham. He had to perform Siva puja to nullify his dosham.
He made a lingam and did puja regularly until all his sins were absolved. Narada was watching the puja performed by the sage. He rushed to meet Indra who was hiding inside a bamboo tree.
Indra prostrated to Narada. He told about his nandavanam which had dried up completely. Narada told him, “Agasthya carries the river Kaveri in his kamandalam. If it can be brought here you garden will become as a glorious as it was before.”
“But how to make the river flow here?” was Indra’s next question.
Narada told him, “Pray to Lord Ganesh. He is the remover of all obstacles. He will surely help you”.

தாய் தந்தையரை அழைத்தான் – தன்
தாபத்தைச் சொன்னான் அச்சத்துடன்!
“அழிவு காலம் வந்துவிட்டதோ என்று
அஞ்சுகிறேன் கனவு கண்ட பின்னர்.
அளவற்ற சேனையுன் கபில முனிவர்
அமர்க்களம் வருகின்றார் போர் புரிய!
நான்கு கரங்களை உடைய ஒரு வீரன்
கொன்று குவிக்கிறான் என் சேனையை.
கரத்தில் உள்ள மழுவை ஏவிவிட்டு – என்
சிரத்தை அறுத்துத் தள்ளுகிறான் கீழே!
வரங்கள் பொய்த்துப் போய்விடுமோ – என்
சிரம் விழுந்து உருளுமோ மண் தரையில்?”

Vinayaka was wearing a crown made of precious gemstones. He wore kundalams in his ears and pearl strings on his chest. He had four strong arms carrying his four weapons.
His face was merciful and his glance graceful. He was accompanied by his two Devis. Sage Kapila was thrilled by the dharshan and paid his obeisance to lord Vinayaka and his Devis.
He told Vinayaka, “Ganan the son of Abhijith took away by force my rare ChintaamaNi. He has many boons and a long life besides. He has conquered all the three worlds.”
“I will take away the ChintaamaNi from GaNan and return it to you!” Vinayaka told the sage and disappeared.
GaNan had a nightmare. He was terrified by the dream. He consulted his parents immediately. “I am afraid that my end is nearing. The nightmare has got me really worried. Sage Kapila comes for a battle leading a huge army.
A man with four arms kills all my soldiers. He throws his mazhu at me. It cuts off my head and makes it roll on the ground. Will all my boons fail me? Will my head really roll on the ground?”

Vishnu continued to Brahma, “I went to the jungle and lived like any ordinary hunter. I roamed around there for full fourteen years. I searched like mad man for my wife Seetaa when she was abducted by RaavaN.
I became a friend of Sugreevan and other monkeys for personal benefits. I killed Vaali by shooting arrow from my hiding place.
I reached Lanka after building the Sethu dam. I lay helpless bound by the Naaga paasam in the war with RaavaN.
I freed Seetaa after wining the war with RaavaN but we did not live together for a long time. I had to forsake her in the dense forest – when she was pregnant – to keep up my image as a just king.
Seetaa returned to the womb of Mother Earth from where she had originally emerged. Are these the things done by a man who has freedom of action? There are the miserable actions of one who is under the control of someone else.
Coming to think of it, Devi Yoga Maayaa is only one who has freedom of action and no one else has it”

ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டத்தை நடத்திட,
அமைச்சர் அளித்தனர் அறிவுரைகள்.
பிரமதன் கூறினான் கணனிடம்,
“அரசே இது என்ன புது மயக்கம்?
ஒரு குடைக் கீழ் உலகாளும் நீர்
வெறும் கனவுக்கு அஞ்சுவதோ?”
கிரந்தன் கூறினான் கணணிடம்,
“அரசருக்கு நன்மை உரைப்பது
அமைச்சரின் கடமை அன்றோ?
குமைச்சலுடன் சபித்தார் கபிலர்,
மன்னன் மணியைக் கவர்ந்தபோது;
மன்னன் கனவு தீவினைப் பயனே!”
விசுவஜித்து கூறினான் குறுக்கிட்டு,
“பேசுவதற்கு இதுவல்ல நல்ல நேரம்,
விசுவாசத்தை நாம் காட்டவேண்டும்
ஆசுவாசப்படுத்த வேண்டும் அரசனை.”
விதந்து ஒரு தந்திரசாலி அமைச்சன்;
யதார்த்தத்தையே பேசினான் அவன்.
“கபிலரை நினைவில் வைத்தால்
கபிலரே தோன்றுவர் கனவிலும்!
முனிவரையே அழித்து விட்டால்
இனி ஒரு பயம் இல்லை நமக்கு”
“கேடு வரும் பின்னே ஆயினும் மதி
கெட்டு வரும் முன்னே” உண்மையே.
சம்மதம் விதந்துவின் அறிவுரைகள்!
ஆயத்தம் நான்கு வகைச் சேனைகள்!
கணனின் யுத்தப் புறப்பாட்டால்
கலங்கி ஓடி வந்தான் அபிஜித்.
“தவற்றுக்கு மேல் தவறு செய்யாதே!
அவரிடமிருந்து பறித்த மணியைக்
கொடுத்துவிடு திரும்ப அவரிடமே!
கெடுமதியை மன்னிக்கச் சொல்!”
அழிவு அழைக்கும்போது யாரால்
அழிவைத் தவிர்த்திட முடியும்?
யுத்தத்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டான் கணன்,
சத்தம் கடல் அலையென ஒலிக்க!

#34J. The Council of ministers
GaNan called all his ministers for counseling. The ministers gave different advices to GaNan.
Pramathan said,” Oh king! Why this fear and confusion? You rule over the three worlds. Are you afraid of a mere dream?”
Granthan said, “It is the duty of the ministers to give good advice to the king. When the king took away by force the ChintaamaNi, the sage Kapila cursed him. I am sure the dream is an effect of the curse”
Viswajith interfered and said,” We have no time to spend in idle talks. We have to stand by our king and infuse confidence and courage in him, since he appears to be disturbed”
Vithanthu was a cunning minister. He spoke what appeared to be the truth, “If the king keeps thinking about the sage Kapila all the time, he is sure to appear in the King’s dreams also. If we kill the sage, there will be no need to fear him any more”
GaNa felt that this was a good advice. The power of thinking gets clouded whenever there is going to be a great fall or total destruction. GaNan got his chaturanga sena ready for a battle with the sage Kapilar.
Abijith was shocked by GaNan’s wrong decision. He came running to his son,” Oh dear son of mine! Do not commit more and more mistakes. You have taken away by force the rare gem ChintaamaNi from the rushi. Return it to him with humility and seek his pardon. This way you will not have to fear him any more”
But GaNan was determined to wage a war and would not listen to the sound advice given by his well wisher father. The army left making as much noise as the waves of a disturbed sea.

விஷ்ணு என்றோ பிரம்மனுக்குக் கூறியதை.
“உண்மையை அறியார் மாயை வசப்பட்டவர்;
உண்மையை அறிவோம் மும்மூர்த்திகள் நாம்.
மணித்வீபத்தில் அன்று தரிசித்தோம்
மாயாஸ்வரூபிணி ஆதி பராசக்தியை.
பராபரையை துதிப்போம் அனைவரும்;
பாரபக்ஷமின்றி அளிப்பாள் நல்ல வரம்.
தியானித்தனர் அனைவரும் தேவியை.
திவ்விய தரிசனம் தந்தாள் ரம்மியமாக.
செம்பருத்திப் பூ போன்ற சிவந்த நிறம்!
அங்கைகளில் பாசாங்குச அபயவரதம்!
“வலை தோன்றுகிறது சிலந்தியிடம்;
உலகம் தோன்றுகிறது உன்னிடம்!
பொறிகள் தோன்றுகின்றன அக்னியில்
உயிர்கள் தோன்றுகின்றன உன்னிடத்தில்..
கருணா சாகரி! துரித துக்க நிவாரிணி!
அருள் கூர்ந்து குறைப்பாய் பூமி பாரம்.
துன்பம் இழைக்கின்றனர் கொடியவர்;
உன்னால் மட்டுமே அழிக்க முடியும்!
முக்கடவுளரும் செய்ய இயலாதவர்
முத்தொழில்களை உன் உதவியின்றி!”
