KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 (#20 b). VILVALAN AND VAATHAAPI.

Vilvalan performed a terrible yaagam by cutting the body of Vaataapi with a sword and offering his blood and parts of his body in the fire.

Brahma took pity and appeared before them. They asked for a boon,
“Even when cut into several pieces and killed several times, Vaataapi must regain his original shape and come back alive!”

Brahma granted this rare boon.

The two brothers went to Soorapadman and boasted about their rare boon. They had made a fool-proof plan to get rid of the rushis without creating any suspicion.

They built a spacious house at the junction of four roads. Whenever any rushi would walk by, they would prostrate to him and invite him to take food in their place.

Vaataapi would be cut and cooked by Vilvalan. After the rushi had eaten, Vilvalan would call out the name of Vaataapi.

Vaataapi would resume his original form, and emerge after tearing open the stomach of the rishi. Then the two brothers would feed on the rushi’s body. This went on for a very long time and several rushis got killed in this manner.

ஆயிரம் நாமங்களில் இவைகள் அடங்கும்;
ஆயிரம் நாமங்கள் இவற்றில் அடங்கும்.

தோத்திரம் செய்தால் விடியற் காலையில்
தேடி வந்து சேரும் ஒரு கோடிப் புண்ணியம்!

#33b. Sthuthimaala

Of the various species created each one called Vinayaka with a special name.
The sixteen names called by the species are
Sumukhar, Eka dantar, Kapilar, Gajakarnakar,
Lambodarar, Vikatar, Vignaraajar, Ganaadhipar,
Dhoomaketu, Ganaadhyakshar, Baala chandrar, Gajaananar,
Vakra thundar, Soorppa karnar, Herambar and Skanda poorvajar .
These form a part of Vinayaka sahasranama.
These names contain the essence of Sahasrtanaama.
Whoever chants these names twenty one times at dawn
will be blessed with all the eight aiswaryams in this world.

4#14b. பிரஹலாதன் (2)

“அருள் செய்வேன் அஞ்சற்க! என்றாள் தேவி – அசுரர்
இருக்குமிடம் சென்றாள்; போர்முகமாக நின்றாள்.

சண்ட, முண்டர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்த தேவி!
துண்டாக்கியவள் மது, கைடபரை விஷ்ணு மூலம்!

வெல்ல இயலுமா இந்த மஹா மாயையை? இந்த
எல்லையில்லா ஆற்றல் கொண்ட மஹாசக்தியை?

கூறினான் பிரஹலாதன் அசுரரிடம் – “வேண்டாம்
போரிடவும்! வேண்டாம் ஓடித் தப்பவும் பாதாளம்!”

அஞ்சி ஓட முயன்றவர்களிடம் கூறினான் நமுசி,
“மிஞ்ச மாட்டோம் உயிருடன் எங்கு ஓடினாலும்!

வணங்கி வழிபடுவோம் தேவியை முதலில்;
பணிந்து விடை பெறுவோம் பாதாள உலகுக்கு!”

துதித்தான் தேவியை பிரஹலாதன் முன் நின்று;
துதித்தனர் தேவியை அசுரர் அவன் பின் நின்று.

“உலகினைப் படைத்துக் காத்து அழிக்கின்றாய்.
உலகில் உள்ள அனைவருக்கும் நீ ஒரே தாய்!

தேவர்கள் போலவே நாங்களும் உன் மக்கள்;
பேதப்படுத்தி வேறுபடுத்துவது ஏன் எம்மை?

ஒருவரிடம் பிரியம் வைப்பதும் – மாறாக
ஒருவரிடம் குரோதம் கொள்வது சரியோ?

காமக் குரோத மோகங்கள் உள்ளன அமரர்களிடம்!
காமக் குரோத மோகங்கள் உள்ளன அசுரர்களிடம்!

என்ன வேறுபாடு கண்டாய் இருவரிடமும்;
எண்ணிப் பார் தாயே நடு நிலைமையோடு”

4#14b. Prahlaad (1)

Devi gave abahyam to the Devaas. She went to face the Asuraas in the war. The Devi – who had destroyed the demons ChaNda and MuNda and caused the death of the demons Madhu and Kaitaba through Vishnu – now stood opposing the Asuraas.

Can anybody defeat this Mahaa Maayaa? Can anybody vanquish this Maahaa Shakti?

Prahlaad told the Asuraas, “Don’t fight with Devi. Don’t try to run away to save your skin”. Namuchi told the Asuraas. ” None of us will escape with our lives if we try to run away from here. Let us pay our obeisance to Devi first and with her permission go to the Paataala.”

Prahlaad praised Devi with deep reverence. The rest of the Asuraas stood behind him and did likewise. Prahlaad told Devi,

“You create, sustain and destroy the worlds Oh Devi! You are the only mother to everything living and nonliving. Devaas are your children but so are we the Asuraas. Why is this differentiation between these two races? Why this soft corner for the Devaas and animosity towards the Asuraas?

The Devaas are steeped in Kaama, Krodha and Moha. So are the Asuraas. What makes the Asuraas different from the Devaas? Please consider this with a neutral and impartial attitude Oh Devi!”

21a. மறைந்துறைதல்.

மருகர்கள் ரிஷிகளை ருசித்துப் புசிக்க,
மாமனோ அண்டங்களை ஆண்டு வந்தான்.

இந்திர ஞாலத்தில் ஏறிச் சுற்றி வந்தான்;
இங்கு அங்கு என்னாது எங்கும் சென்றான்.

எங்கே சென்றிருந்தாலும் தவறாமல் மாலை
மங்கும் நேரம் திரும்புவான் தலைநகருக்கு.

இந்திரனைப் பிடித்துத் தொந்தரவு செய்ய,
சொந்தப் படையை அனுப்பினான் அவன்.

அயிராணியைச் சொந்தம் ஆக்குவதற்கு
அவுணப் பெண்கள் ஒன்பது கோடிப்பேர்.

ஒற்றர்கள் மூலம் செய்தியை அறிந்ததும்
காற்றென மறைந்துவிட்டனர் இருவரும்!

மற்ற தேவர்களைத் துன்புறுத்தியும் – கைப்
பற்றமுடியவில்லை இந்திரன், அயிராணியை.

சூரபத்மனின் மோஹம் தலைக்கு ஏறியது.
சூரபத்மனின் சினம் எல்லையை மீறியது.

ஒற்றர்படைகள் அண்டங்கள் எங்கும்
சுற்றிச் சுற்றித் தேடியது அவர்களை.

வைகுந்தம் சென்றிருந்த இந்திரன் மகன்
வேதனயுற்றான் இந்த நிகழ்வுகளால்.

விண்ணுலகை விட்டு மறைந்து ஓடி
மண்ணுலகில் இருந்தனர் பெற்றோர்.

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 ( # 21A). LIVING IN SECRECY.

The nephews were feeding happily on the rushis while their maternal uncle Soorapadman ruled the 1008 universes.

He would get into his chariot and travel everywhere. But he would return to his capital city before nightfall.

He wanted to make Indraani his consort and torment Indra. He sent an army and 90 million asura women to fetch them.

Indra learned the plot through his spy and vanished from Heaven without a trace. The other devas could not tell the whereabouts of Indra and Indraani.

Spies roamed in all the universes under Soorapadman’s rule, looking for the escaped couple.

When all these were happening Jayanthan, Indra’s son returned from vaikunthan. He was very sad to learn of the plight of his parents who had gone into hiding somewhere on the earth.

4a. அபிஜித்

புத்திரன் இன்றி வருந்தினான் அபிஜித்;
பத்தினி குணமதியுடன் போனான் கானகம்.

தவம் செய்யும் முன் ஒப்படைத்தான் நாட்டை,
தர்மம் தவறாத ஓர் அமைச்சர்கள் குழுவிடம்.

ஆசிரமம் ஒன்றைக் கண்டான் கானகத்தில்;
வாசம் செய்துவந்தார் அதில் வைசம்பாயனர்.

“அரசனே! நீர் யார்? உம் தேவை என்ன?”
தாரையாகக் கண்ணீர் விட்டான் மன்னன்!

அறிவுக் கண்களால் கண்டறிந்தார் அரசனின்
குறை என்ன என்பதை வைசம்பாயன முனிவர்.

“சத்புத்திரன் பிறப்பான்!” ஆசீர்வதித்தார் முனிவர்.
உத்தம முனிவரைத் தொழுதான் மன்னன் அபிஜித்.

“பெரியோர் வாக்கு பலிக்கும் உண்மையே!
சரியான வழிமுறைகளை அருளுவீர் ஐயா!”

பஞ்சாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை அளித்தார் முனிவர்;
தஞ்சம் அடைந்த அபிஜித்திடம் சொன்னார் ;

“நாடிச்செல் கடலில் நதியின் சங்கமத்தை!
நன்மை தரும் ஒரு வனம் உள்ளது மேற்கே!

நான்கு மாதங்கள் மனைவியுடன் தங்கி
நன்கு ஜபித்து யாகங்களைச் செய்வாய்!

பத்தினியுடன் நகர் திரும்புவாய் அதன் பின்.
உத்தமான புத்திரன் பிறப்பான் சீக்கிரத்தில்!”

வனத்துக்குச் சென்றான் அபிஜித் ராஜன்;
குணவதி மனைவி குணமதியுடன் உடனே!

பிரம்மனும் தவம் புரிந்து இருந்தான்;
குறிப்பிட்ட அந்த வனத்தில் அப்போது!

அரசனும், பிரம்மனும் தவம் புரிந்திருக்க
அரசியும், வாணியும் செய்தனர் பணிவிடை.

#34a. Abhijit

King Abhijit was sad since he did not have any children. He went to the forest with his wife Gunamati after entrusting the rule of his kingdom to a group of honest ministers.

They saw an ashram in the forest. Sage Vaisampaayana lived there. The king went to pay his respect to the sage. When the sage asked him “Oh! King who are you and what do you seek here?” he shed copious tears without replying.

The sage saw the truth with his gnaana drushti and blessed the king “You will get a good son soon” The king asked the sage, “Kindly tell me the right procedure to be followed to be blessed with a son”

The sage taught him Panchaakshara. He told the king, “Go to the confluence of this river and the sea. You will find a beautiful vanam to its west. It is the ideal place for doing yaaga, yagna and tapas. Stay there for four months with your queen. Do the yaaga with proper mantra japam. You may return to your kingdom after four months. Very soon the Queen will be blessed with a son”

Abhijit and Gunamati went to that vanam. Brahma was also doing penance thera at that time. The king Abhijit and Brahma would spend time in tapas. The queen Gunamati and Vani Devi would attend to the needs of their husbands.

4#14c. பிரஹலாதன் (3)

“நீ விரும்பும் செயல்களே நடப்பது மெய்!
நீ விரும்பாமல் எங்கனம் விளையும் போர்?

தர்மத்தை அறிவான் தேவேந்திரன் நன்கு;
தர்மத்தை அறிவேன் உள்ளபடியே நானும்.

தர்மம் அறிந்த எங்களிடையே விரோதம்
மர்மமாக உதிப்பது உன் செயல் அல்லவா?

பாற்கடலைக் கடைந்தோம் ஒற்றுமையாக;
பரந்தாமன் செய்தார் கபடமும், சூதுவாதும்.

பல பொருட்கள் விளைந்தன பாற்கடலில்!
பரதேசியானோம் எதுவுமே கிடைக்காமல்!

கொள்ளையடித்தார் விஷ்ணு லக்ஷ்மியை,
கௌஸ்துபத்தைத் தன் லோப குணத்தால்.

கற்பக விருக்ஷம், ஐராவதம், உச்சைஸ்ரவஸ்,
காமதேனு, அமிர்தம், அப்சரஸ் தேவர்களுக்கு!

மதியை மயக்கிக் குடியைக் கெடுக்கும் கொடிய
மதுவின் தேவதை மட்டும் அசுரருக்குப் பரிசு!

பொது உழைப்பால் விளைந்த பொருட்களைப்
பொறுப்பாகச் சம பங்கிடவில்லை எவருமே!

நீதிக்குப் புறம்பாக அபகரித்தனர் தேவர்கள்;
நீயும் அறிவாய் நடந்தவற்றை எல்லாம்!

உழைத்தும் பயன் இல்லை அசுரசமூஹத்துக்கு;
திரும்பிச் சென்றோம் ஏமாந்த பரதேசிகள் போல.

திரும்பிய எமக்குப் பரிந்து பேசவில்லை எவரும்!”
பிரஹலாதன் கூறினான் தேவியிடம் ஆதங்கத்தை!

#14c. Prahlaad (2)

Prahlaad told Shakti Devi his side of the arguments seeking justice.

“Everything happens according to your wishes Devi. Unless you have wished for a war among the Devaa and Asuraa, it could never have happened! Indra knows the rules of Dharma. I too know the rules of Dharma. How can a war take place betwen two people when both are well versed in Dharma?

The Asuraas and Devaas churned the Ocean of Milk long ago. Many rare objects emerged from the ocean. But Vishnu played foul and cheated us the Asuraas mercilessly. He took away Lakshmi Devi and the Kousthubam as his own.

The Devaa took away the Karpaga Vruksham, the Airaavatam, the rare horse Uchchaisravas, the Apsaras for themselves. The Asuraa were presented with the the goddess of wine to make monkey out of them.

These rare objects appeared since the Devaa and Asuraa worked together. But these rare objects were not shared equally among those who worked for them. The Devaa cheated the asura of everything. You too are aware of all the happenings.

Our labor was made use of and we were made to return empty handed like beggars. Yet no one came forward to support our side seeking justice!”

21b. ஜயந்தன்

மயங்கி நின்று துயரக்கடலில் விழுந்த
ஜயந்தனை அணுகினார் தேவரிஷி நாரதர்.

இருக்கை அளித்து வணங்கினான் ஜயந்தன்,
“இருக்குமிடம் அறிகிலேன் அன்னை தந்தையர்,

இன்னல்கள் நீங்கி யாம் வாழ்வது எப்போது?
அன்னை தந்தையரைக் காண்பது எப்போது?”

“நன்மையும், தீமையும் பிறர் தர வாரா.
நன்மை தீமைகள் நம் வினைப்பயன்களே.

இன்பம் கண்டு மகிழார் பெரியோர்!
துன்பம் கண்டு துவளார் பெரியோர்!

வறியவர் பெரியவர் ஆவதும் உண்டு.
பெரியவர் வறியவர் ஆவதும் உண்டு.

வளர்ந்து தேயும் திங்களின் கலைகள்
வாழ்வில் தோன்றும் மாற்றம் போன்றதே.

நிலையற்றவை சுரர்ளின் துன்பங்கள்.
நிலையற்றவை அசுரர்ளின் இன்பங்கள்.

இன்பமும், துன்பமும் உடலுக்கே அன்றி
இன்பமும், துன்பமும் உயிருக்கு அல்ல!

உருவை மறைத்து ஒளிந்திருக்கும் தந்தை
விரைவில் அழிப்பான் அவுணர் கூட்டத்தை.

வருந்தாமல் இருந்து காலம் கனிவதற்கு
விரும்பிக் காத்திருப்பாய் ஜெயந்தா நீ!”

2 ( # 21 b). Jayandan and Narada.

Narada was moved to pity at the sight of Jayandan’s suffering. He wanted to console him. Jayandan paid his respect, offered him a seat and spoke.

” I do not know the whereabouts of my dear parents. When will our sufferings come to an end? When will I meet my parents again?”

” The good and the bad in a person’s life are not inflicted by anyone other than himself. Our own actions subject us to these consequences. So the wise will not jump in joy nor crumble in sorrow.

Fortune may favor a pauper and make him king. It also make a king into a pauper. The fortune affects a person’s life very similar to the waxing and waning of the moon.

Your sorrows will not last for ever, nor the happiness and joy of the asura. The joy and sorrow affect only for the body and not the soul living in it.

I am sure your father is planning a way of getting rid of the asuras soon. Time is factor which can change everything upside down. So wait for the opportune moment without losing courage!”

Narada ended his long speech consoling Jayandan.

 4b. மோஹம்

சரஸ்வதி தேவிக்குக் காமம் மேலிட,
சயனித்தாள் சென்று பிரமன் மடியில்!

நிஷ்டை கலைந்து கண்கள் திறந்தன;
நிலைமையைக் கண்டவுடன் மோஹம்!

சல்லாபம் செய்ய விரும்பினான் பிரமன்;
சரஸ்வதி தேவியோ சம்மதம் தரவில்லை.

“காம வசப்பட்டது உண்மை எனினும்,
காமத்துக்கு நேரமல்ல இந்த வேளை!

பங்கம் நேரிடும்; பாதகம் விளையும்;
தங்கள் தவம் தொடரட்டும் சுவாமி!”

“மறுக்காதே என் விருப்பத்தை தேவி!
நிறைவேற்றுவதுன் கடமையல்லவா?”

“உம் தவத்துக்கு இடைஞ்சல் செய்வதற்கு
உடன்படவே மாட்டேன் ஸ்வாமி!” என்றாள்.

விடாமல் நெருங்கிச் சென்றார் பிரமன்;
விலகி விலகிச் சென்றாள் வாணிதேவி.

இருவரும் சென்று அடைந்தனர் அங்கே
இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் இருக்கும் இடத்தை.

விரைந்து வந்த சரஸ்வதி தேவியையும்,
துரத்திக் கொண்டுவந்த பிரம்மனையும்,

இந்திரன் வரவேற்றான் உபசரித்து நன்கு!
“வந்த காரணம் என்ன?” என வினவினான்.

மௌனம் சாதித்தனர் பிரமனும், வாணியும்.
மௌனமே அங்கு மொழியாகிப் பேசியது.

புரிந்து கொண்டனர் நிலைமையைத் தேவர்கள்,
“அரிது காமத்தை வெல்வது!” என நினைத்தனர்.

கணத்தில் சுதாரித்துக் கொண்டான் பிரமன்!
‘கண நேர சுகத்தினால் எத்தனை தவம் பாழ்?’

நீராடிவிட்டுத் தவத்தை செய்தான் பிரமன்
நீரில் கலந்துவிட்டது வெளிப்பட்ட தேஜஸ்.

#34b. The desire

One day Saraswathi Devi was filled with desire. She went and lied down on Brahma’s lap. Brahma’s concentration was disturbed. He opened his eyes. On seeing Saraswathi Devi so close to him, his desire was also kindled.

He wanted to become intimate with her but Devi would agree to it. “I was overcome by desire. But this is not the time for enjoying. I will not allow your penance to be disturbed because of me”

“You are my wife and it is your duty to make me happy. Brahma went nearer to Devi. She said again, “I will not be the cause of disturbing your penance”. She started running away from him and he started chasing Devi.

Soon they reached the place where Indra and the other Deva were sitting. Indra welcomed both of them and asked about the purpose of their visit. Both Brahma and Saraswathi Devi kept quiet and sat in silence.

Form their silence the Deva and Indra understood what had happened between Brahma and Devi. They thought to themselves. “It is impossible to overcome desire even for the gods”

Brahma managed to control desire. He said to himself. “I would have wasted so much of my penance just by indulging for a few minutes.”

He took bath and went back to his penance, but the thejas which emerged from him got mixed with the water there.

4#14d. பிரஹலாதன் (4)

“பரிந்து வந்து உள்ளாய் தேவர்களுக்கு உதவிட !
பரிந்து வரவில்லையே நீ அசுரர்களுக்கு உதவிட!

சிந்திப்பாய் தேவர்கள் சிறந்த உத்தமர்களா?
சந்திரன் சுகித்தான் குரு மனைவி தாரையுடன்!

கர்ப்பிணிப் பெண்ணை, சகோதரன் மனைவியைக்
கட்டியணைத்தான் பலவந்தமாக பிருஹஸ்பதி!

இடையூறாக இருந்த சிசுவையும் சபித்தான்,
“கிடையாது கண்பார்வை!” எனக் கடுமையாக!

கற்பழித்தான் அகலிகையை இந்திரன் – அவள்
கல்லாக மாறிக் கிடந்தாள் பன்னெடுங்காலம்.

வஞ்சித்தார் விஷ்ணு, பேரன் மகாபலியை!
வஞ்சித்து அபகரித்தார் மூவுலகங்களையும்!

நடப்பர் தர்ம வழியில் தேவர்கள் வெல்கையில்!
நடப்பர் அதர்ம வழியில் தேவர்கள் தோற்கையில்!

காப்பதோ அழிப்பதோ உன் விருப்பம் தாயே!
கேட்பதற்கும் சொல்வதற்கும் இல்லை ஒன்றும்!”

சக்தி கூறினாள் வணங்கும் அசுரர்களிடம்,
“சம்பத்தும் ஆபத்தும் வருவது காலத்தால்.

காலமே காரணம் வெற்றி தோல்விக்கு
காலம் கனியும் வரை காத்திருங்கள்!

சாந்த சித்தம் கொண்டால் திருப்தி நிலவும்
சாந்த இன்றேல் நிலவும் பேராசை!” என்றாள்

வணங்கினர் தேவியை அசுரர்கள் பணிவுடன்,
இணங்கினர் மீண்டும் பாதாளம் சென்றிட!

Prahlaad spoke to Devi,” You have come to help the Devaas. But You never came to help us the Asuraas! Are all the Deva blemish-less good people?

Chandran lived with the wife of his guru. Bruhaspati raped the pregnant wife of his own brother. He cursed the fetus in the womb which was a hindrance that it should become blind.

Indra raped Ahalya Devi and she lay converted to a rock for many years. Vishnu cheated my grandson Mahaa Bali and took away the three worlds from him be treachery.

Th Devaas would follow the path of Dharma when they emerge victorious. They follow the path of Adharma when they get defeated. Whether you want to spare or kill us is left your will and pleasure. I have nothing more to say”

Devi spoke to the Asuraas now,” The victory and defeat are time bound. A person’s prosperity and adversity is also time based. Wait till the time becomes favorable to you once again. Remember that a satisfied mind is at peace and greedy mind is restless”

21c. இந்திரன், இந்திராணி

நிலவுலகை அடைந்துவிட்ட இந்திரன்
நிலவணிந்த பிரானை வழிபட்டான்.

சீகாழியை அடைந்தான் மனைவியுடன்;
சீரிய பூம்பொழில் ஒன்றினை அமைத்தான்.

மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்தான் தினம் பெருமானை.
கலங்காது காத்திருந்தான் அவன் அருளுக்கு.

ஒற்றர்கள் தேடி வந்தனர் அங்கேயும்.
முற்றிய மூங்கில்களாக வடிவெடுத்து

மறைந்து கொண்டனர் இருவருமே.
இறை அருள் ஒற்றரிடமிருந்து காத்தது.

மழை முகில்களை வெருட்டிய அவுணர்
மழை பொழிவதைத் தடுத்து விட்டனர்.

கருகிக் காய்ந்து சருகாகி விட்டது
கருத்தைக் கவர்ந்த அப்பூம் பொழில்.

மனம் வருந்திய இந்திரன் வேண்டினான்
தினம் வணங்கும் முக்கட் பிரானிடம்.

“வருந்தாதே இந்திரா! பொழில் தழைக்க
வரும் ஆறு ஒன்று விரைவில் இங்கு!”

அருள் வாக்கு ஒலித்தது அசரீரியாக.
பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான் தேவர்கோன்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 (# 21c). Indra and Indraani.

Soon after reaching the earth with his wife Indraani, Indra started worshiping lord Siva. He went to Sekaazhi and made a garden of flowering plants. He did puja to Siva with the fresh flowers everyday. He waited patiently for the favorable time.

Soorapadman’s spies came there looking for him and his wife. The heavenly couple transformed themselves into two bamboos and deceived the asuras.

The asuraas frightened the rain clouds away and stopped the rain fall there. The lovely flower plant garden soon withered dry.

Indra was very sad and prayed to lord Siva. An asareeri spoke to him, “Do not worry Indra. Very soon a river will start flowing here. Your nandavanam will become as glorious as before”

Indra was happy with the promise made by God.

4c. கணன்

கடல் நீராடும் பௌர்ணமி தினம்;
தடாக நீரைப் பருகினாள் குணமதி.

நீருடன் கலந்த பிரம்மனின் தேஜஸ்,
நீரோடு சென்றது அவள் வயிற்றுக்குள்.

பஞ்சாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை ஜபித்தான் அபிஜித்;
எஞ்சிய ஹோமங்களையும் செய்தான்.

கர்ப்பமுற்ற குணமதி ஈன்றாள் மகனை;
கணன் என்ற பெயரில் வளர்ந்தான் அவன்.

பயம் என்ற சொல்லே இல்லை அகராதியில்;
பராக்கிரமத்துடன் வளர்ந்து வந்தான் கணன்.

உதயச் சந்திரனைப் பிடித்தான் கைகளில்!
இதமாக வேண்டியதும் விடுவித்தான் அதை.

மதம் கொண்ட யானை அலைந்தது நகரில்;
மிதித்துத் துதிக்கையால் வாரி எறிந்தது!

அறைந்தான் யானையின் கன்னத்தில்;
பிளந்தான் இரு மத்தகங்களைப் பிடித்து!

பலம் கண்ட யானை மாறியது பூனையாக;
பலத்துடன் இருந்தன பல நற்குணங்களும்.

கானகம் சென்றான் கடும் தவம் செய்ய;
கடும் தவம் செய்தான் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள்!

கொஞ்சமும் தளரவில்லை உறுதியில்!
பஞ்சாக்ஷரத்தை நிறுத்தினான் நெஞ்சில்!

நின்று தவம் செய்தான் ஒற்றைக் காலில்.
நீரை மட்டும் அருந்தி முப்பது ஆண்டுகள் !

பத்து ஆண்டுகள் காற்றை மட்டும் சுவாசித்து!
பத்து ஆண்டுகள் எதுவுமே உட்கொள்ளாமல்!

யோகாக்னி வெளிப்பட்டது உடலிலிருந்து
யோகாக்னி சென்றடைந்தது சுவர்க்கத்தை.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#34c. GaNan

It was a full moon day when people bathe in the sea. Gunamthi drank the water from the pond. The tejas released by reached her stomach along with the water.

Abhijith did the japam and homam as prescribed. Gunamthi became pregnant and delivered a son indue course. He was named as GaNan. He was fearless and valorous. He caught hold of the rising moon once. When the moon begged to be released, he released it.

A mad elephant ran berserk – threatening and throwing people around. GaNan slapped hard on the cheeks of the elephant. He pulled apart its forehead. The elephant became as mild as a cat.

GaNan was strong and had good qualities in addition to his strength. He want to the forest and did severe penance for one thousand years. He concentrated on Panchaakshara. He stood on one leg and did penance.

For thirty years he would take nothing but water. For the next ten years he took nothing but the air. For the next ten year he did not even breathe. His body started emanating the yoga angi and it reached the swarggam.
