3#20b. Yudaajit

Yudaajit spoke to Subaahu in a threatening voice,”Oh foolish king! What do you say now? You invited all of us for the ichchaa swayamvaram of your daughter. Now you tell us to accept you gifts and go back quietly. We won’t go back until the purpose of our visit is fulfilled.

Tell your daughter to come here immediately. Ignoring all the powerful kings you wish to select a weakling. I should have killed him along ago – when I had a chance. It is my fault that he is still walking on the earth.

You may live without fear after marrying your daughter to my grandson Satrujit. If you do not want to become my sambandhi, go and select any one of the kings here. It is not going to be Sudarsanan at any cost!”

Subaahu was upset with the turn of the events. He told his queen in a troubled tone, “Only Devi can save us now!”

The queen spoke to her daughter now.”Marry a king and become a queen . There will be no problem for anyone if you select a king. But if you select Sudarsanan there will be problem for everyone of us”

Sasikala did not like her mothers advice. She begged to her mother, “Please get us married secretly and leave us at the outskirts of the city. We will somehow manage to escape from the enemies. We will not bring you any misfortune!”
 
I do not make money out of my writing.

If at all I may get good reviews for my blogs in Worrpress.

HERE in the forum is it just deafening silence all the time.

IT is O. K if you do not respond to/ or wish to respond to my posts here.

But you may visit the blogs and increase the traffic there

ensuring me a good review for the year 2014.

Is it too much to ask from you for

all the time and energy I put in, in writing these???

If you read from my blog instead of (or in addition to ) reading from the thread,

it means ~100 /2 = 50 views per day or a fantastic 30x50 = 1500 views per

month! Or 1500 x 12 = 18000 views per year.

WHY DOES THAT NOT HAPPEN???

May be I should stop posting here to make you go over to the blogs!!!:decision:

18d. இந்துமதி

வேட்டைக்குச் சென்ற அரசன் அங்கு
காட்டில் காணாமல் போய்விட்டான்.

தேடினர் இறங்கித் தடாகம் முழுவதும்;
இடிந்த மனத்துடன் திரும்பினர் நாடு.

கூறினர் அரசி இந்துமதி தேவியிடம்
வீரர்கள் இந்தத் துயரச் செய்தியினை.

“தடாகம் முழுவதும் தேடிய போதும்
உடல் கூடக் கிடைக்கவில்லை!” என.

இடிந்து போய்விட்டாள் அரசி இந்துமதி!
கடந்தன பன்னிரண்டு நீண்ட ஆண்டுகள்.

நாரதர் வந்தார் நன்மைகள் புரிந்திட ;
நடந்ததை கண்டார் ஞானக்கண்ணால்.

“இந்தக் கோலம் இனி வேண்டாம் தாயே!
சொந்தக் கணவன் உள்ளான் உயிருடன்.

கடத்திச் சென்றவர் நாக கன்னிகைகள்!
காவலில் வைத்தனர் நாகலோகத்தில்!

மனம் மாறிப் பெண்கள் உன் கணவனை
அனுப்பச் செய்திட வழி ஒன்று உள்ளது.

பொறுப்புடன் சதுர்த்தி விரதம் செய்தால்
விருப்புடன் திருப்பி அனுப்புவர் அவனை!”

உபதேசித்தார் நாரதர் ஏகாக்ஷரத்தை.
உபதேசித்தார் சதுர்த்தி விரத விதியை.

பூர்த்தி ஆனது அரசியின் சதுர்த்தி விரதம்!
மாற்றியது அது நாககன்னியர் மனங்களை!

பன்னிரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் மாறாது இருந்த
மன்னனின் மனவுறுதியை வியந்தனர்.

ஏராளமான பரிசுகளை அளித்து அவனைத்
தாராளமாக அவர்கள் திருப்பி அனுப்பினர்.

மறைந்திருந்த மன்னன் வந்தான் மீண்டு;
நிறைவெய்தியது நாடு முன்போல் மீண்டும்!

விரத மஹிமையை உணர்ந்த அரசனும்
விநாயகச் சதுர்த்தி விரதத்தை செய்தான்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

18d. Indumathi

The King Chandraangathan went on a hunting expedition with his soldiers and went missing. The soldiers searched inside and outside the lake but found no trace of the missing king. They returned to their city dejected and told the bad news to the queen Indumathi.

She was shattered by this sudden shock. Years rolled by and it was twelve years since the king was missing. Narada came to meet the queen. He knew the whereabouts of the missing king.

Narada told the queen, “No need to shed tears any more oh queen. You husband is alive and well looked after but he is under guard in the land of Naagaas. The only way to bring him back here is to observe the chathurti vratham. “

Narada taught the queen Indumathi Vinayaka mantra and the Chathrurti puja vidhis. She completed the vratham successfully. That made the naaga kanyas change their minds.

They understood that if the king could resist their temptation for twelve years, he could do it for any number of years more. They admired his courage and commitment. They showered him with gifts and took him back to his city.

The whole city rejoiced the return of the missing king after twelve years. The king understood the power of chathurti vratham. He himself observed it successfully and lived happily for a long long time.

17a. சிவனும், முருகனும்

முருகன் படைத்தலைச் செய்தான் பலகாலம்;
திருமால் விரும்பினார் பிரமனைச் சிறைமீட்க.

தேவர் குழாம் திரண்டு சென்றது கயிலை;
வேத நாயகனைப் பணிந்து விண்ணப்பித்தது.

நந்தியைப் பணித்தார் நம் சிவபெருமான்,
“நம்பியிடம் சொல்லி நான்முகனை மீட்பாய்!”

கந்தவெற்பை நோக்கிச் சென்றார் நந்திதேவன்,
கந்தனைக் காண எண்ணற்ற கணங்களுடன்;

“பிரமனைச் சிறை நீக்க வேண்டும் முருகா!
பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் உரைப்பது எளிதா?”

“நான்முகனைச் சிறை விடேன் நான்!
உன்னையும் சிறை இடுவேன் ஓடிவிடு!”

முருகனின் சீற்றத்தைக் கண்டு அஞ்சி
திருக்கயிலை திரும்பினார் நந்தி தேவன்.

விவரம் அறிந்த பெருமான் – பிரமனை
விடுவிக்கத் தாமே செல்ல விழைந்தார்.

அரியணையில் இருந்து இறங்கிப் பின்னர்
எருது ஊர்தியில் ஏறி அமர்ந்தார் பிரான்;

பிற தேர்களும் தத்தம் ஊர்திகளில் ஏறி
பிரானுடன் சென்றனர் அந்தக் கந்தவெற்பு.

தந்தையைக் கண்டதும் வந்து வணங்கிய
கந்தன் அரியணையில் அமர்த்தினான் அவரை.

“எம்பெருமான் எழுந்தருள என்ன காரணம்?”
“எம் திருவுளம் பிரமனைச் சிறை மீட்பதே!” ..

“பிரணவத்தின் பொருள் அறியாதவன் அவன்!
பிரானைத் தொழுதும் ஆணவம் நீங்காதவன்!

அவனைச் சிறைவிட முடியாது!” என்றான்.
அவனிடம் சிவன் சினந்தது போலப் பேசினார்!

“நந்தி கூறிய போதும் கேட்கவில்லை நீ!
நான் கூறும் போதும் கேட்கப் போவதில்லை”

“தங்கள் திருவுள்ளம் அதுவானால் நான்
உங்கள் விருப்பம் போலச் செய்கின்றேன்!”

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

1 (# 17 A) SIVA AND SKANDA

Brahma was imprisoned and Murugan took care of the creation. Days rolled by.

Vishnu took pity on Brahma’s plight and wanted to get him released from the prison. He went to meet Siva with all the other Devas.

Siva took pity of Brahma and told Nandhi to meet Murugan and get Brahma released from the prison.

Nandi went to meet Murugan with all the Sivaganaas. He requested Murugan thus,

“You must release Brahma from your prison. Explaining the meaning of Pranava is not an easy task after all”.

Skanda was stubborn.”I will not release Brahma. If you continue to pester me I will imprison you along with him. Now run along!”

Nandi returned to Kailash hastily and told Siva of Skanda’s threat. Siva decided to go in person and get Brahma released. He got down from his throne an sat on his bull Nandhi.

All the other Devas accompanied him to meet Skandan. Skandan paid obeisance to Siva, made him sit on a throne and wanted to know the purpose of his visit.

Siva told him, “My aim is to get Brahma released from your prison”
“He does not know the meaning of pranava. He is unfit to be in charge of the creation. He worships you but he has not got rid of his ego.”

Siva appeared to be irritated with Murugan and said,”You did not listen to Nandhi. You are not listening to me either.”

Murugan said, “If that is your wish, I will release Brahma from my prison immediately.”

3#20c. சசிகலையின் யோசனை

சம்மதிக்கவில்லை சுபாஹு சசிகலையின் யோசனைக்கு;
“நிம்மதியான சூழ்நிலையில் நடப்பவையே திருமணங்கள்.

ஒழுங்கு படுத்த வேண்டும் விரோதங்களை முதலில்.
எழும் பல புதிய பிரச்சனைகள் விரோதம் நீடித்தால்.

திருமண நடந்த கையேடு தெருவில் இறக்குவதா?
தீங்கு செய்யலாம் வந்துள்ள அரசர்கள் ஒன்று கூடி.

பந்தயம் வைக்கின்றேன் ஜனக மன்னன் போல.
பந்தயத்தில் வெல்பவனே உனது மணவாளன்.

கல்யாணமும் நடக்கும்; கலகமும் விளையாது;
சொல்வதைக் கேள் என் கண்மணி!” என்றான்.

“பந்தய சுயம்வரத்தில் பரிசுப் பொருள் நானா?
வஞ்சகங்கள் நடக்கலாம் இந்தப் பந்தயங்களில்!

முந்திக் கொள்ளலாம் நான் நீ என்று அரசர்கள்.
முந்துபவர்களுக்குள் மூளாதா கலகம் ஒன்று?

தந்து விட்டேன் என் மனத்தை சுதர்சனனுக்கு.
தரமாட்டேன் மணமாலையை மற்றவனுக்கு.

‘இன்று போய் நாளை வாருங்கள்’ என்று,
மன்றாடுங்கள் அரசர்கள் முன்பு சென்று.

ரகசியமாகத் திருமணம் முடித்து விடுங்கள்
இரவோடு இரவாக எங்கள் இருவருக்கும்!

சென்று விடுகின்றோம் நாங்கள் ரதம் ஏறி;
அன்னை பராசக்தியின் அருள் பெற்றவர்;

ஆபத்து வந்தால் ஆதரித்து உதவுவாள்
அனுதினம் அவர் ஆராதிக்கும் பராசக்தி.

அமங்கலம் நிகழாது தேவியின் அருளால்;
அச்சம் கொள்ள வேண்டாம் தந்தையே!”

3#20c. Sasikala’s scheme

King Subaahu did not agree to Sasikala’s suggestion. He knew that weddings were meant to be performed in a peaceful and friendly atmosphere.

First of all, he had to discourage and sort out the enmity of the kings. If their enmity continued, fresh problems would arise.

He could not forsake his daughter and her husband soon after their wedding and place their lives at risk. The kings might join hands and trouble the newly wedded couple.

He told his daughter, “I will arrange for a Swayamvaram with a contest. Who ever wins in the contest will become your husband. This way the wedding will go on peacefully and there will be no threat from the assembled kings”

Sasikala did not agree to his suggestion. “Am I a mere object to be won in a contest? Do my wish and will have no value at all? Many tricks may be played and rules may be bent or broken in a contest.

The kings may want to the first to try their luck and that may lead to disturbance among the kings.

I have presented my heart to Sudarsanan. I can’t present the wedding garland to another man. Please request all the kings to go back today and come tomorrow.

Perform our wedding tonight and we will go away on a chariot. If there will be trouble on our way, the Devi whom he worships with ardent devotion will help us out of that danger. No harm can befall us. Pleas do not worry unnecessarily dear father!”

Sasikala tried to infuse courage and confidence in her father King Subaahu.

19a. தாருகன் தவம்

தாருகன் புரிந்தான் நெடும் கடும் தவம்;
‘தனிப்பெரும் தலைவனாக ஆக வேண்டும்.

அண்டங்கள் அனைத்திலும் தன் ஆணை
அமலாக வேண்டும் நூற்றெட்டு யுகங்கள்.

பிரான் அளித்தார் கோரிய வரங்களை!
பிற சக்திகளால் அழிவின்மையும் கூட.

லோகங்கள் அனைத்தையும் வென்றான்;
தேவர்கள் ஆயினர் அடிமைகள் கூட்டம்.

இந்திரன், நான்முகன், நாரணன் சேர்ந்து
சென்றனர் கயிலை பிற தேவர்களுடன்.

“சிவகுமாரன் அவதரிக்க வேண்டும் எனில்
சிவன் உமையுடன் இணைய வேண்டும் !”

எதிர்ப்பட்டாள் உலகத்தின் அன்னை உமை;
துதித்தனர் ஒன்று கூடி அவள் அருளை நாடி,

“பிரான் போதிக்கின்றார் முனிகுமாரருக்கு
பிறர் அறியாவண்ணம் தத்துவ ஞானத்தை!

பிரானை அண்டித் துயர்களைக் களையப்
பிரார்த்திப்பது நல்ல பயன் தரும்!” என்றாள்.

யோகத்தில் ஈடுபட்டுள்ள பெருமானை
போகத்தில் ஈடுபடச் செய்ய வேண்டும்!

யாரால் புரிய முடியும் இவ்வரிய செயல்?
மாரன் மலர்பாணங்களே வெல்லும் வழி

மலர்க்கணைகளைத் தொடுத்து மன்மதன்
சலனப் படுத்தவேண்டும் பிரான் மனத்தை.

அஞ்சினான் மன்மதன் இச் செயல் புரிய.
கெஞ்சினர் தேவர்கள் வேறு புகல் இன்றி.

யோக நிஷ்டையைக் கலைத்தான் மன்மதன்
கோப அக்னியில் எரிந்து சாம்பலானான்!

19a. The penance of Taarukan

Tarukan performed hard penance for a long time. He wanted to rule over all the worlds for one hundred and eight yuga. He wanted to enslave all the Deva. Siva granted all his wishes. Taarukan could not be destroyed by any power other than that of Siva himself.

Taarukan conquered all the universes. The Deva became his slaves. His atrocities increased day by day. Finally Indra, Brahma and Vishnu went to Kailash. They knew that only Siva’s son could destroy Taarukan.

Uma Devi met them. They consulted her about their course of action. Uma told them,” Lord Siva is teaching the tatva to Sanakan and his three brothers. You express your problems to the Lord. He will surely help you”

Siva had to wed Uma to get a son who could kill Taarukan. But Siva was in yoga nishta. Who could disturb his nishta, change his mind, make him take interest in Uma and procreate a son?

They all decided that only Manmathan was capable of playing such tricks on the mind, by using his flower arrows. They approached Manmathan with this request. He was scared of Siva’s wrath and refused.

But when requested by all the DevAs, he finally gave in. He went to Kailash and shot the flower arrow on Siva. Siva opened his fiery third eye and Manmathan turned into ash.

17b. பிரணவம்

பூதங்கள் சென்று விடுவித்தன பிரமனை;
பூதங்கள் கொணர்ந்து நிறுத்தின பிரமனை;

“நான் முகனே! மிகவும் வருந்தினீரா நீர்
என் மகன் சிறையில் இட்டதால் வாடி?”

“ஆணவம் ஒழிந்தேன் சிறைப்பட்டதால்.
தீவினை தொலைந்து தூயவன் ஆனேன்.”

“வழக்கம் போல் படைத்தல் செய்வாய்!”
வணங்கிய பிரமனை வாழ்த்தி அனுப்பினான்.

மகனை வாரி மடியில் அமர்த்திக்கொண்டு,
“மகனே! நீ அறிவாயா பிரணவத்தை?

நான்முகன் அறியாத அம்மறை பொருளை
நான் அறியும் வண்ணம் எடுத்துக் கூறு!”

“மறைபொருளை மறைவாகக் கூற வேண்டும்.
பிறர் அறியும் வண்ணம் பகரலாகுமா?

குருவாக என்னை அமர்த்திச் சீடனானால்
உரைப்பேன் நான் பிரணவத்தின் பொருளை”

முருகன் குருவானான்! பிரான் சீடனானான்!
பொருளை உரைத்தான் பிரான் செவியில்.

கயிலை திரும்பினார் கண்ணுதற் பெருமான்.
கந்த வெற்பில் கந்தனும் அவன் படையும்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
KANDAPURAANAM (1) URPATHIK KAANDAM

1 (# 17 B) SIVA AND PRANAVA.

Some of the ganas released Brahma and brought him to Siva.
“Did you suffer much in my son’s prison Oh Brahma?” Siva asked the Brahma.

“No sire! The imprisonment helped me to overcome my pride and ego. I have become a purer person now”

Siva blessed Brahma,”You may now resume your duty as the creator”

He then placed Murugan on his lap and asked him, “you imprisoned Brahma since he did not know the meaning of Pranava. Do you know the meaning son?”

“Sire! Surely I know the meaning of Pranava. But it should not be revealed in public. If you will make me your guru and you become my disciple, I will reveal its scared meaning”

Siva assumed the posture of a humble disciple and Murugan sat as the guru. He explained Pranava to Siva’s delight.

Siva was pleased and went back to Kailash. Murugan and his army stayed back in Kanda Verpu.

3#21a. திருமணம்

மாற்றமுடியாது மகள் மனதை என்ற உண்மை
மாற்றிவிட்டது தந்தை சுபாஹுவின் மனத்தை.

விரைந்தான் மன்னர்கள் கூடி இருந்த சபைக்கு;
உரைத்தான் மன்னர்களிடம் பணிவாக இதனை.

“சுயம்வரம் நடை பெறும் இன்றல்ல, நாளை.
சுயமாக வரிப்பாள் சசிகலை தன் கணவனை.

தங்கியிருங்கள் உங்கள் விடுதிகளில் – இரவு
எங்கள் விருந்தை உண்டபின் இளைப்பாறிட!”

சந்தேகித்தனர் சில மன்னர்கள் இதனை – நாற்
சந்திகளில் நிறுத்தினர் தமது காவலர்களை.

‘என்ன நடக்குமோ மறுநாள் மண்டபத்தில்?”
என்ற சிந்தனையிலேயே கழிந்தது இரவு,

வேதியரை வரவழைத்தான் சுபாஹு- அவர்கள்
ஓதினர் மந்திரங்களை ரகசியமான இடத்தில்.

முறைப்படி நடந்து முடிந்தது திருமணம்;
சிறப்பான பரிசுகள் தந்தான் மணமகனுக்கு.

மகிழ்ச்சியில் பூரித்தாள் அன்னை மனோரமை;
நெகிழ்ச்சியில் ஆழ்ந்தனர் மந்திரி, பிரதானிகள்

சீர் வர்சைகள் தந்தான் சுபாஹு மகளுக்கு
ஓர் இழிவும் எவரும் கூற இயலாதவாறு!

கரிகள் இருநூறு, ஒட்டகங்கள் முன்னூறு
பரிகள் இரண்டாயிரம், ரதங்கள் இருநூறு,

தாசிகள் நூற்றுவர், சேவகர் நூற்றுவர்,
தானிய வகைகள் இருநூறு வண்டிகள்.

“குறையேதும் உண்டோ?” சுபாஹு வினவிட,
“நிறைவே அனைத்தும் குறைவில்லை எனக்கு!

நாட்டையிழந்து காட்டில் வசிப்பவனுக்கு
காட்டினீர்கள் நீங்கள் நல்ல வழி இன்று!”

அன்னை கூறினாள் அரசன் சுபாஹுவிடம்.
தன் மனம் மகிழ்ந்தாள் மணக்கோலம் கண்டு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

3#21a. The wedding

The fact that his daughter’s mind could not be changed, changed the mind of King Subaahu. He went to the gathering of the kings and made this announcement.

” The swayamvaram will take place as planned tomorrow instead of today. Please go back to your camps to take rest after enjoying the royal feast arranged for you. My daughter will select her husband tomorrow as originally planned.”

Many kings did not believe this statement. They kept their guards in all the crossroads to keep a vigilant watch over all the movements.

The king Subaahu got the priests to perform the wedding as per the saastraa in a secret place. The wedding was performed in secrecy. King Subaahu presented his son in law Sudarsanan with many rich gifts.

Two hundred elephants, two hundred chariots, three hundred camels, two thousand horses, one hundred women servants, one hundred men servants and two hundred carts loaded with food grains were presented to Sudarsanan by Subaahu.

He then asked queen Manorama, “Is her anything lacking in my gifts? The queen relied, “I have no complaints sir! You have done a good deed by presenting your daughter to my son – a prince without a kingdom – living in a forest.”

If this hide and seek game continues for all the image used by me
with neither intimation nor prior information
I may have to settle down for these three images respectively
for Vinayaka puraanam, Kanda puraanam and Devi Bhaagavatam
Hope the mouse and peacock won't run away along with the trisool.
OR better still I can STOP posting my poems here.
You can always read them without any disturbance in the blogs.
The images DO NOT contribute to the traffic but they just differentiate
the various themes pictorially.
