3#17c. The king’s advice

King Subaahu attended to the arrangements of the swayamvaram of Princess Sasikala. No expenses were spared in constructing the wedding hall, the decorations and the gem studded seats for the kings who would be the guests.

Sasikala watched the arrangements being made without consulting her first. She spoke to her dearest friend and told her.

“I have chosen to marry Sudarsanan. I can’t marry anyone else. Devi also told me to wed Sudrsanan – her ardent devotee. Please speak to the king and queen and make them understand my true feelings”

The friend waited for the most opportune moment and spoke to the queen. The queen conveyed the true feelings of their daughter to the king.

The king laughed at this argument and told his queen,
“Our daughter is very innocent and ignorant of the worldly proceedings. Since these were the words of the princess, her friend had conveyed all this to you with utmost sincerity.

You are exaggerating the trivial matter to me. Talk to our daughter and tell her to select one the many worthy kings who will be attending the swyamavaram.”

16e. அற்புத ரதம்

கயிலைநாதனைக் காணச் சென்றவர்
செய்தனர் ஓர் அற்புத ரதம் அவருக்கு.

சூரிய சந்திரர்கள் ஆயினர் திகிரிகள்;
அரிய ரித்விக்குகள் அழகிய உட்பரப்பு.

சீரிய சமயங்கள் ஆயின உள்ளிடம்;
மாயை ஆனது ரதத்தின் முகப்பாக.

பூவுலகம் ஆனது தேர்த் தட்டாக.
மேலுலகானது அழகிய ஆசனம்.

மலைகள் ஆயின வலிய தூண்கள்;
மணிவடங்கள் ஆயின புராணங்கள்

மேல்குடம் ஆயின தத்துவங்கள் ;
மேகங்கள் ஆயின சுற்றுப் பட்டாடை

தோரணங்கள் ஆயின சமுத்திரங்கள்
தாரணியோர் கண்டிராத அற்புத ரதம்;

நான்கு வேதங்கள் ஆயின பரிகள்;
நல்ல ஆபரணங்கள் உபநிடத்துக்கள்;

அஷ்ட வசுக்கள் ஆயினர் கடிவாளம்;
இஷ்ட நுகத்தடி கர்ம ஞான காண்டம்.

தேரின் சாரதி ஆனார் நான்முகன்;
மேருமலை மாறியது அழகிய வில்லாக!

நாரணன் ஆனார் வில்லில் ஒரு பாணம்
நாண் கயிறு ஆனது வலிய வாசுகி.

தேவர்கள் ஆயினர் அரிய ஆயுதங்கள்
தேவர்கள் சேர்த்தனர் ரதத்தைக் கயிலை.

அன்புடன் அளித்தனர் முக்கண்ணனுக்கு.
இன்னல்களை எடுத்து இயம்பினர் தேவர்.

அபயம் அளித்தார் கைலாச நாதர்.
ஆறுதல் கூறினார்,” விடிவு வரும்!”

16e. The chariot

The Deva who want to meet Lord Siva created an extraordinary chariot for him. The Sun and the moon were made as its two wheels. The inner side of the chariot was made of rithviks. The inner space was made out of the religions.

Maya became the front side of the chariot. The earth became the chariot plate and the swarga became the seat in the chariot. The mountains became its Strong pillars. The tatvas became the kalasa on the top.

The clouds became the silk cloth wound around the chariot. Puranas and saasthras became the ropes. The oceans became the decorative thoranas. Such was that chariot as the world had never before seen.

The four Vedas became the four horses. Upanishats became the decorations on the horses. Ashta vasus were the girdles of the horses. Karma and Gnaana kaandam became the harnesses. Brahma became the saarathi.

Mount Meru became a strong bow. Vishnu transformed into an arrow. The bow string was the strong sarpa Vasuki.

Devas transformed themselves into asthraas and sasthraas.

The chariot was taken to Kailash and presented to Lord Siva. The Deva elaborated their sufferings to Lord Siva who gave them abhayam and promised that their troubles would end very soon.

11d. திருவிளையாடல்கள்

பொய்கையில் தோன்றிய பெருமானை
மெய்யன்புடன் வளர்க்க வேண்டுமே!

கார்த்திகைப் பெண்கள் அறுவரிடமும்
பார்த்து வளர்க்க வேண்டினர் தேவர்கள்.

“சிவபாலனை வளர்க்கும் பொறுப்பு
சீலவதிகள் உங்களைச் சார்ந்தது.”

கரும்பு தின்னக் கூலி கிடைக்குமோ?
கிடைத்தது கார்த்திகைப் பெண்களுக்கு!

அறுவரையுமே தாயாக எண்ணியவன்
ஆறு அழகிய குழவிகள் ஆனான்.

பாலூட்டினர்; தாலாட்டினர்-தாமரை
மலர்கள் மீது உறங்க வைத்தனர்.

ஆறு சிறு குழவிகளும் செய்யும் வேறு
வேறு செயல்களை ஒரே நேரத்தில்!

ஒன்று துயிலும், ஒன்று விழிக்கும்;
ஒன்று பால் உண்ணும், ஒன்று தவழும்;

ஒன்று நகைக்கும், ஒன்று சிணுங்கும்;
ஒன்று பாடும், ஒன்று ஆடும்;

ஒன்று கை கொட்டும், ஒன்று கூத்தாடும்,
ஒன்று பொய்கை நீரைக் கலக்கும்.

ஆறு சிறு குழந்தைகளும் புரிந்தன
வேறு வேறு திரு விளையாடல்கள்.

காண்பவர்கள் கண்களும், மனங்களும்
களவாடப்பட்டன அச்சிசுக்களால்!

1 (# 11 D). DIVINE PRANKS OF SIVAKUMAR.

The divine baby should be taken care of with love. Devas requested the six Kaarthigai women to take care of the baby.

The ladies were very happy to perform their duties as mothers. Sivakumar wanted to be with all the six ladies. So he transformed himself into six babies and each baby was cared for by one lady.

They fed the babies with milk, sang lullabies and made the children sleep on the lotus flowers in the Poigai.

The six children behaved as though they were indeed six different children. They did different things at the same time.

One of them would go to sleep. Another would wake up from sleep. One of them would drink milk. Another would pretend to cry.

One of them would sing and another would dance. One of them would clap hand and another would churn the Poigai.

The six lovely babies stole the hearts of all the onlookers by their sweet pranks!

3#18a. சுயம்வரம் (1)

சுபாஹுவின் சொற்களைக் கேட்ட அரசியார்
சசிகலையை அழைத்துக் கூறினார் அறிவுரை.

“விருப்பம் அறிந்தோம் உன் தோழியிடமிருந்து;
வருத்தம் அடைந்தோம் அதைச் செவிமடுத்து!

நாடு, நகரத்தை இழந்து விட்டவன் சுதர்சனன்;
நல்ல வாழ்க்கையினையும் இழந்து விட்டவன்.

பந்து, மித்திரர்களால் கைவிடப் பட்டவன்;
பரி, கரி, படை, ஆயுதங்கள் இல்லாதவன்.

வசிக்கின்றான் வனத்தில் ஆசிரமத்தில்,
வாழ்கின்றான் கனிகளை உட்கொண்டு.

கணவனாக வருபவனுக்கு வேண்டும்
கண்ணே! உன்னை மணக்கும் தகுதிகள்.

உள்ளனர் பல மன்னர்கள் அறிவு, அழகு,
ஆள், அம்பு, சேனை செல்வாக்குகளுடன்.

சுதர்சனனின் சகோதரன் சத்ருஜீத் உள்ளான்.
அதர்மம் ஆகும் நாடோடியை நீ நாடுவது.

சுதர்சனனை அழிக்கத் துடிக்கின்றான் யுதாஜித்
சுதர்சனனுக்கு உண்டு ஒரு பிராண ஆபத்து!”

கண்ணீர் அருவி பெருகியது சசிகலையிடம்,
அன்னையிடம் கூறினாள் தன் நியாயத்தை.

“மாறாது மனம் யார் என்ன கூறிய போதிலும்;
கூறினாள் அன்னை பராசக்தி அவனை மணந்திட.

வளர்த்துவிட்டேன் என் மானசீகக் காதலை;
வரித்து விட்டேன் அவரை என் கணவனாக!

மாறாது என் மனம் என்று நம்புங்கள்;
மறுக்காதீர்கள் என் விருப்பத்துக்கு!”

3#18a. The Swayamvaram (1)

The queen listened to the words of the king Subaahu and then spoke to her daughter with great concern. “My dear child! Your father and I came to know of your wishes through your friend. We became very sad on hearing them.

Sudarsanan has lost his kingdom. He does not live a decent kingly life. He has been forsaken by his friends and relatives. He lives in an ashram and eats the raw fruits and roots. The man who marries you must be suitable for you my dear.

There are many kings who are good looking, intelligent, rule over vast kingdoms and posess powerful armies. You may marry even Sudarsanan’s step brother Satrujit. Wishing to marry a pauper living with the hermits in the forest is not correct.”

Sasikala’s tears flowed copiously. She said her side of the argument to her mother.

”I will not change my mind despite the many reasons put forward by you and the king my father. I have cherished my secret love for Sudarsanan.

I have chosen him as my husband when Devi told me to marry him. Please understand my feelings and do not stand against my wishes dear mother!”

16f. பலியின் தூது

பலியின் தூதர்கள் வந்தனர் அங்கே.
பலியின் மொழிகளைப் பகர்ந்தனர்;

“சிந்தாமணி விநாயகரைப் பெறும் எண்ணம்
சிந்தையில் கொண்டுள்ளான் மன்னன் பலி.

எடுத்துத் தருக எமக்கு அந்த மூர்த்தியை.
மடங்கிச் செல்வோம் பெற்ற உடனேயே.”

கைலாயநாதன் மாறிவிட்டார் ருத்திரனாக
கைலாயம் வந்த தூதர்களிடம் கூறினார்,

“விநாச காலே விபரீத புத்தி என்று
விளங்கும் முதுமொழி மெய் ஆனது!

நெருங்கியது அழிவு காலம் பலிக்கு !
செருக்குடன் அனுப்பியுள்ளான் தூது”

தூதர்கள் திரும்பினர் தம் மன்னனிடம்.
ஓதினர் சிவபெருமானின் சொற்களை.

“இல்லை!” என்ற சொல்லைக் கேட்டதும்
நில்லாமல் வரம்பு மீறியது அவன் சினம்!

“கூண்டோடு கைலாசம் அனுப்புவதற்கு
கூடியுள்ளார்கள் தோதாக அங்கேயே!

தானைத் தலைவர்களுக்கு ஆணை இது:
சேனைகளை உடனேயே ஆயத்தம் செய்க!”

முழுமுதற்கடவுளான கணபதி தேவனைப்
பழுதின்றித் துதித்தார் பரம சிவனார்.

“பலியின் அழிவு நிகழும் என் கைகளால்.
பலம் தருவீர் பலியை வெற்றி கொள்ள”

பஞ்சமுகங்களுடன் தோன்றினார் விநாயகர்
பரமசிவனின் முகத் தாமரைகளிலிருந்து.

“பலியை போரில் வென்று வாகை சூடிட
பலம் தந்தோம் தேவரீருக்கு!” என்றார்.

மகிழ்ந்தனர் தேவர் பூமழை பொழிந்து!
அதிர்ந்தது உலகம் துந்துபி நாதத்தால்!

16f. Bali’s messengers

Bali’s messengers came to Kailash. Bali’s message was short and to the point. “Bali wishes to posses the Chinthaamani Vinayaka. Please hand it over and we will go back immediately!”

Siva became Rudran on hearing this message. “It is said the pride comes before fall. It is true as proved by the message sent by Bali. I will not part with the moorthy of Chintaamani Vinaayaka.”

The messengers went back empty handed. Bali’s anger knew no bounds when he heard Siva’s message. “Packing them off to Kailash as a gang has become easier since they have assembled there already. Get the army ready for the battle”

Siva then meditated on Vinayaka and prayed,”It is destined that I should destroy Bali. Give me the power I need to do this task” Pancha mukha Vinayaka emerged from the five faces of Lord Siva.

He told Siva,” You have the power to put an end to Bali and his misdeeds” Flowers rained from the sky and the sound of dundubi was heard in all the three worlds.

12. நவ சக்திகள்.

தீப் பொறிகளைக் கண்டு அஞ்சி ஓடிய உமை
திரும்பி வந்தாள் கயிலை நாதனிடம் மீண்டும்;

மகனைப் பிரான் தோற்றுவித்ததை அறிந்து,
மகன் தன்னிடம் தோன்றவில்லை எனச் சினம்!

“என்னிடம் மகன் தோன்றாது தடுத்த அந்த
விண்ணவர் மனைவியர்க்கும் அதுவே நிகழும்!”

பதறி உமை ஓடியபோது திருவடிச் சிலம்பு,
சிதறியது சில நவரத்தினங்களைத் தரையில்.

சிவனருளால் தோன்றியது அதிசயமாக
நவரத்தினங்களிலும் தேவியின் திரு உருவம்.

ஒவ்வொரு மணியினின்றும் ஒரு சக்தி தோன்ற,
ஒன்பது சக்திகளையும் சிவன் அருகே அழைத்தார்.

அண்ணலைக் கண்டு காமுற்ற அத்தேவிகள்
கண் பார்வையினாலே சூலுற்றனர் உடனே.

உமையின் கோபம் மீண்டும் பெருகிடச் சாபம்,
“அமைவீர் நெடுங்காலம் சூலினைச் சுமந்தபடி!”

அஞ்சி நடுங்கிய தேவிகளின் வியர்வையில்,
அஞ்ச வைக்கும் வீரர் நூறாயிரம் தோன்றினர்.

பெருமான் பணித்தார் அந்த வீரர்களை,
“முருகன் படை வீரர்கள் ஆவீர்கள் நீங்கள்!”

சூலினைச் சுமந்தனர் நெடுநாள் நவசக்தியர்,
சூலின் சுமை தாங்க முடியாமல் போனது!

சிவனிடம் சென்று முறையிட அவர் அன்னை
சிவகாமியை அருள் புரிய வேண்டினார்.

வீர மகன்கள் ஒன்பதுபேர்கள் தோன்றினர்.
வீரவாகு பிறந்தான் மாணிக்க வல்லியிடம்.

வீர கேசரி பிறந்தான் மௌத்திக வல்லியிடம்.
வீர மகேந்திரன் பிறந்தான் புஷ்பராக வல்லியிடம்.

வீர மகேசுவரரை ஈன்றாள் கோமேதக வல்லி.
வீர புரந்தர் பிறந்தார் வைடூரிய வல்லியிடம்.

வீர ராக்கதர் பிறந்தார் வைர வல்லியிடம்.
வீர மார்த்தாண்டர் பிறந்தார் மரகத வல்லியிடம்,

வீராந்தகர் பிறந்தார் பவள வல்லியிடம்,
வீரதீரர் பிறந்தார் இந்திரநீல வல்லியிடம்.

ஐயனை வணங்கி நின்றனர் ஒன்பதின்மரும்,
அரிய படைக்கலன்கள் அவரிடம் பெற்றனர்.

1 (# 12) THE NAVA SAKTHI.

Uma ran away fearing the intense heat of the sparks. Later she returned to find out that Siva had created His son, without her assistance.

She became very angry at the Devas who had played a dirty trick on her and cursed that none of their wives would ever bear children.

When Uma ran in a hurry, some of the navaratna scattered from her anklets. By Siva’s grace, Uma’s form appeared in each of those gems.

Each gem became a Sakthi in the likeness of Uma. Siva called the nine Devis born out of the nine gems to come near Him.

They fell head over heels in love with Siva and became pregnant by his mere glance. Uma became more angry and cursed them that they would bear the fetus for a very very long time.

Now the nava sakthis got frightened and sweated profusely. From the sweat a hundred thousand robust and valorous sons were born. Siva blessed them and commanded them to become the invincible army of Murugan.

The nava sakthis lived with their garbam for a long time. Soon they were unable to bear the weight of the garbam. They worshiped Siva and begged for His mercy.

Siva told Uma to bless the nava sahthis and she blessed them to have their sons. Nine robust and invincible sons were born to the nine Devis. They worshiped Siva and got rare ayudhams from Him.

The Nava Shakti KumArAs would become the constant companions of Murugan later.

3#18b. சுயம்வரம் (2)

மஹாதேவி விஷ்ணுமாயை தோன்றினாள்
மஹாலக்ஷ்மியாக சுதர்சனனின் கனவினில்.

வந்தான் ச்ருங்கிபேரபுரத்து வேடராஜன்;
தந்தான் பல அரிய பெரிய பரிசுகளை.

திரவியங்கள், வீரக்கொடி – நான்கு
புரவிகள் பூட்டிய ரதம், பதாகைகள்.

ஆசிகள் தந்தனர் ஆசிரம முனிவர்கள்;
ஆசிகள் தந்தாள் பிரபஞ்ச மாயாதேவி.

“உதவ முன் வந்தான் வேடராஜன் இன்று.
உன் வசப்படும் உன் ரஜ்ஜியம் விரைவில்.”

மனோரமை மகிழ்ந்தாள் முனிவர் மொழிகளால்.
மஹா தபஸ்விகளின் வாக்குப் பொய்யாகுமா?

அந்த ரத்தத்தில் ஏறி சுதர்சனன் செல்கையில்,
மந்திர பலத்தால் ஒரு படையும் காட்சி தந்தது.

மந்திரத்தின் மஹிமையை உணர்ந்த சுதர்சனன்
முன்னிலும் அதிகமாக தேவியை தியானித்தான்.

மன்மத பாணங்களால் வருந்திய சசிகலையோ
முன்னிலும் அதிகமாக பிரேமித்தாள் அவனை.

மகளின் மாற்றத்தை உணர்ந்தான் சுபாஹு.
மகளின் சுயம்வரத்தை தானே நிச்சயித்தான்.

மண்ணுலக வேந்தர்களின் சுயம்வரம்
மூன்று வகைப் பட்டிருந்தன அப்போது.

மனத்தைக் கவர்ந்தவனை மணாளனாக
மணப்பெண் வரிப்பது இச்சா சுயம்வரம்.

பந்தயத்தில் வென்று மணமகளை மன்னன்
சொந்தம் ஆக்கிக் கொள்வது பந்தய சுயம்வரம்.

வீரத்தை நிலை நாட்டிக் கன்னிகையைக் கவருவது
வீர சுயம்வரம் என்று பெயர் பெற்று இருந்தது.

7#18b. The Swayamvaram (2)

Vishnu Maayaa appeared to Prince Sudarsanan as Lakshmi Devi. The chief of the hunters in Sringabera puram became a friend and gave several rich gifts to Sudarsanan such as a chariot with four horses, the flags and several other riches.

The sages gave him their blessings.They said, “The chief of the hunters has become your friend now. You will get back your father’s kingdom very soon”

Manorama became vary happy since the words spoken by the sages always proved to be true. Whenever Sudarsanan rode on the chariot he appeared to be surrounded by a big army of his own. He realized the effect of the Chanting of Devi’s mantra. He did japam more sincerely than before.

Sasikala was suffering from the pangs of separation. Her father noticed the changes in her behavior and arranged for her swayamvaram. In those days swayavarams were of three different types.

In IchchA swayamvaram the bride chose her own husband from among the kings who had assembled.

In the second type, the winner in the contest arranged by the parents of the princess, married her.

In the third type the bride was kidnapped by the prospective husband and he married her after defeating the opponents in a fight

16g. போர்

சண்டப் பிரசண்டர் வந்தனர் படையுடன்;
மூன்று மகன்கள் வந்தனர் தம் படையுடன்;

தேவர்கள் சேனையும் நின்றது தயாராக;
தேவர்கள் முழங்கினர் பெரும் சங்கநாதம்

பிரமன் செலுத்தினார் அற்புத ரதத்தினை!
பிரான் அமர்ந்தார் தேரின் ஆசனத்தில்.

பூதவெள்ளம் எழுபத்திஎண்ணாயிரம் கோடி;
தேவர்கள் சமூஹம் முப்பத்து முக்கோடி;

முருகன் வந்தான் தன் தனிப்படையுடன்
அருகில் வீரபத்ரன் தன் தனிப்படையுடன்!

ஏழு கடல்களும் ஓரிடத்தில் கலந்தாற்போல
இரு படை சமுத்திரங்களும் கலந்தன அங்கே.

சுண்டிய விற்களின் நாணொலி பரந்து
அண்டம் எங்கும் சென்று எதிரொலித்தது.

திரிபுரன் பெற்றிருந்தான் அரிய வரங்கள்
திரிபுரங்களையும் இறக்கினான் போரில்.

பறந்து செல்லவும், இறங்க வல்லவும் ஆன
சிறந்த தேர்கள் போரில் ஆயுதங்கள் ஆயின!

சத்தம் இல்லாமல் புறங்களை இறக்கினான்;
மொத்தமாக தேவரை அழிக்க முயன்றான்.

மாயப் போரினைப் புரிந்தான் திரிபுரன்;
மாயையை மாற்றி அமைத்தார் அரன்;

வெற்றி தோல்வி இன்றிப் போர் நீண்டது!
வெல்வாரா பிரான் என்ற ஐயம் பிறந்தது!

அன்னையைத் துதித்தனர் அனைவரும் கூடி;
அன்னை ஐயனிடம் இவ்வையத்தைகே கூற

“திரிபுரனின் திறமையை வெளிப்படுத்தவே
அரிய போரை வேண்டுமென நீட்டுகின்றேன்

அழிவு காலம் மிகவும் நெருங்கி விட்டதால்
விழுந்து விடுவான் போரில் விரைவில் பலி!”

16g. The war

Chandan and Prachandan came with their armies. Bali’s three sons came with their armies. Devas got ready their army. Deva blew their conchs and the sound rocked all the three worlds.

Brahman held the reins of the wonderful chariot made by the Deva. Siva sat on the seat in the chariot. The Bootha ganam were 7.8 trillion in number; the Deva were 330 million in number; Murugan came leading his own army; Veerabadran also joined along with his own army.

As if all the seven seas merged in a spot, the two oceans of warriors merged there. The twang of the bows reverberated through the Universe.

The tripurams had magical powers. They could fly from anywhere and land anywhere. So these were used as the weapons in this war.

Tripuran made these chariots descend on the Deva and killed them effortlessly. The auras were experts in Mayajaal but Siva destroyed their power of Maya. The war continued for a long time without victory or defeat for any of the two sides.

The Deva got a doubt now whether Siva could really vanquish Tripuran. They asked their doubt to Uma Devi and she passed it on to Siva.

Siva replied, “I prolonged the war only to bring out the greatness of Tripuran. Now his end is nearing”

13. ஸ்கந்தன்.

“ஆறுமுகனைச் சரவணப் பொய்கையிலிருந்து
அரவணைத்துக் கயிலை அழைத்து வருவோம்!”

இறைவன் கூற இறைவியும் இணங்கினாள்-இனிக்
குறைகள் தீரும் எனத் தேவர்கள் மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

பூமாரி பெய்தது, மறை ஒலிகள் முழங்கின.
பூதங்கள் இசைக் கருவிகளை முழக்கின.

வெண்குடை, சாமரம், இடபக் கொடியுடன்,
கண்மணி முருகனிடம் சென்றனர் அவர்கள்.

“உன் மகனை நீ அழைத்து வா!” என்றதும்,
தன் மகனை ஆறுமுகனாக ஆக்கினாள் உமை.

மகனை அணைத்தவுடன் பால் பெருகலானது!
மணிக் கிண்ணத்தில் ஏந்தி மகனுக்கு அளித்தாள்.

அண்ணலை வணங்கச் செய்தாள் அன்னை உமை.
அண்ணல் அமர வைத்தான் மகனைத் தன்னருகில்.

“கார்த்திகைப் பெண்கள் வளர்த்ததால் இவன்
கார்த்திகேயன் என்று பெரும் புகழ் பெறுவான்.

கார்த்திகை நாளில் மெய்யன்போடு இந்தக்
கார்த்திகேயனை வணங்குபவர்க்கு வீடுபேறு!”

மகனுக்காக பெருகிய உமை அன்னையின் பால்
மடுவிலும் விழுந்து கலந்தது பொய்கையில்.

முனிவர் சாபத்தால் மீன்களாகிக் கிடந்த
முனிகுமாரர்கள் அப்பாலைப் பருகினர்.

மீன் வடிவம் மறைந்து சுயவுரு எய்தினர்.
தன்னை வணங்கும்அவர்களுக்கு உரைத்தான்,

“திருப்பரங்குன்றம் சென்று தவம் புரிவீர்.
திருமுருகன் அருள் கிடைக்கும் உமக்கு!”

மீண்டும் கயிலையை அடைந்த அவர்கள்
காண்பதற்கு அரிய காட்சியில் அமர்ந்தனர்.

1 (# 13). SKANDAN.

“Let us go and bring our son from Saravanap poigai to Kailash” Siva told Uma. She agreed happily. All the Devas were delighted that their troubles would end very soon.

Flowers rained from the sky. Vedas were chanted. Various musical instruments were played. The snow white umbrella, the chAmaram and the flags of Siva accompanied the group.They reached Saravanap poigai.

“Go and bring your son!” Siva told Uma. Uma hugged the six children together and made them into one baby with six heads and twelve arms.

The moment she hugged the child, milk started flowing. She collected it in a crystal cup and fed her son.

She carried her son and made him pay his respect to Siva. Siva made his son sit beside Him and blessed the Six KArthigai women.

“This son will be known as KArthigeyan since you have brought him up. Whosoever worships him on KArthigai day with sincere devotion will be liberated from samsAra.”

The milk that fell in to the pond was drunk by the six sons of ParAsara rushi – who had cursed them to become fish and live in that poigai.

They got saapa vimochanam and regained their original form. They knelt down to Siva. He blessed them and told them,“Go to Thirup parangkundram and do penance there. Murugan will come there and grace you.”

Siva, Uma and Skandan went to Kailash and sat in their throne.

3#18c. தேவியின் கவசம்

தாயின் தவிப்பைக் கண்டான் சுதர்சனன்;
தளரவில்லை தன் மனவுறுதியில் சற்றும்!

“நடப்பது நடக்கட்டும் அம்மா! – எப்போதும்
நல்லதையே நினைப்போம் நம் மனதினில்.

அரச குலத்தில் பிறந்த நான் அஞ்சுவதா?
அடவியிலேயே வாழ்நாளைக் கழிப்பதா?

முடிவு செய்தேன் சுயம்வரத்துக்குச் செல்ல;
மூவுலகின் அன்னை காப்பாள் என்னை!”

அன்னை கோரினாள் தேவியின் கவசத்தால்;
அன்னை பராசக்தி தன் மைந்தனைக் காத்திட!

“முன்னால் இருந்து காக்கட்டும் அம்பிகை;
பின்னால் இருந்து காக்கட்டும் பார்வதி தேவி.

இடர் தரும் வழிகளில் காக்கட்டும் வாராஹி;
கடின செயல் புரிகையில் காக்கட்டும் துர்க்கை;

கோரமான போரில் காக்கட்டும் மஹாகாளி;
பேரவையினில் காக்கட்டும் பரமேஸ்வரி;

மண நிகழ்ச்சியில் காக்கட்டும் மாதங்கி;
மன்னர்கள் நடுவே காக்கட்டும் பவானி;

மலைக் குகையில் காக்கட்டும் கிரிஜா;
மனிதர் கூடும் நாற்சந்தியில் சாமுண்டி;

கனமான வனங்களில் காக்கட்டும் காமகை;
கனமான வாதங்களில் காக்கட்டும் வைஷ்ணவி;

பகைவருடன் போரில் காக்கட்டும் பைரவி;
சகல இடங்களிலும் காக்கட்டும் ராஜேஸ்வரி;”

தனியே அனுப்ப மனமின்றித் தவித்தாள்
தானும் ரதம் ஏறினாள் மகனுடன் அவள்.

வந்தார் குரு பரத்வாஜரும் அவர்களுடன்;
வந்தாள் பணிப்பெண்ணும் அவர்களுடன்;

சுபாஹு வரவேற்றான் விருந்தினர்களை;
சுகமான ஏற்பாடுகள் செய்து கொடுத்தான்.

3#18c. Devi’s kavacham

Sudarsanan noticed the anxiety of his mother and said to her, “Mother! Let us hope for the best always. Whatever will be will be! I am the son of a valorous king. I should not know fear.

I should not spend my entire life in hiding away from my enemies. I have decided to go to the swayamvaram.The mother on the Universe will protect me from all dangers.”

Manorama wished him well and prayed to Devi to protect her son always.

“May Ambika protect you from the front.
May Parvathi protect you from the back.

May Vaaraahi protect you during your travels.
May Durga protect you while performing difficult deeds.

May Mahaa Kaali protect you during the battles.
May Parameswari protect you in a gathering.

May Maathangi protect you during the wedding.
May Bhavaani protect you among all the other kings.

May Girija protect you in the mountain caves.
May Chaamundi protect you at the crossroads.

May Kaamagai protect you in dense jungles.
May Vaishnavi protect you in serious discussions.

May Bhairavi protect you in the wars with enemies.
May Raja Rajeswari protect you everywhere all the time.”

She could not let her son go all alone to the swayamvaram. So she got into his chariot along with Sudarsanan, Guru BharatwAj and her trusted maid. King Subaahu welcomed them and made their stay very comfortable.

16h. திரிபுர தஹனம்

திரிபுரங்கள் அழியும் ஒரே ஒரு ஆயுதத்தால்!
திரிபுரங்களும் வரவேண்டும் நேர்கோட்டில்!

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை நிகழும்
அல்ப சமயத்திற்கு மட்டும் இவ்வரிய நிகழ்வு.

“தம் உதவியால் மட்டுமே அழிக்க முடியும்
திரிபுரனைப் போரில் சிவபெருமானால்!”எனக்

கர்வம் கொண்டனர் தேவர்கள் போரில்;
கர்வம் அழியச் செய்தான் சிவபெருமான்!

சிரித்து எரித்து விட்டான் திரிபுரங்களை!
எரியும் புரங்களின் மேல் எறிந்தான் பிறகு,

அரிய வரம் பொய்க்காது இருக்க எண்ணி,
அரிய சூலாயுதத்தினைப் போரின் முடிவில்!

திருபுரங்களையும் அழித்தார் சிவபிரான்;
திரிபுரன் மகன்களையும் அழித்துவிட்டார்;

திரிபுரன் எரிந்து சாம்பல் ஆகிவிட்டான்;
தீ சுவாலையில் ஒரு நொடிப் பொழுதில்!

ஜோதி வெளிப்பட்டது அவ்வுடலிலிருந்து.
ஜோதி வந்து கலந்தது பிரான் உடலுடன்.

எஞ்சிய அசுரர்களைக் கொன்று அழித்தனர்;
அஞ்சாமல் அவரைத் துரத்தி ஓடிய தேவர்கள்.

அழிந்து போன தேவர்களை உயிர்ப்பித்தார்
கழிவிரக்கத்துடன் கைலாசநாதன் அங்கு.

பூமழை பெய்து மகிழ்ந்தனர் தேவர்கள்;
பூத கணங்கள் மகிழ்ந்து கொண்டாடின!

16h. Tripura dahanam

The three purams must be destroyed by a single weapon. They should come in a straight line for this to become possible. This rare event occurred for a very short duration once in one thousand years.

The Deva felt proud that but for their help Lord Siva could not vanquish Tripuran. Siva read their thoughts and wished to prove them wrong. He burned tripuram just by laughing.

The boon given should not be proved false. So he threw his soolaayudham on the already burning tripuram.

He destroyed the tripuram. He destroyed the Tripuran and his sons. A flame of light emerged from Tripuran’s body and merged with Siva.

The asuras who took to their heels were chased by the now fearless Deva and killed. Flowers rained form the sky and the bootha ganams celebrated this victory.
