The 64 Divine dramas played by Lord Siva.
Lord Siva is attributed with the divine dramas numbering sixty four.
They are all interesting and captivating stories.
Some of the them - in fact most of them - are too long to be given as a single poem. So these stories are split up into 2 or more parts. A suitable heading is given to each part.
Some of us are familiar with some of these stories. But a knowledge of all of them is desirable.
Here is my humble offering of 128 simple Tamil poems to the lotus feet of Lord Siva and Devi Uma.
For the benefit of those who are interested to read but unable to read Tamil script, the most accurate and crisp translation of the poem is given below each of the poems.

“பதவி வரும்போதே பவிசும் வந்துவிடும்!”
பாரில் உள்ளவர்க்கே இந்த கதியென்றால்,
பொன்னுலகாளும் விண்ணவர் வேந்தன்
மன்னர் மன்னன் இந்திரன் என் செய்வான்?
ஒளிமயமான உலகம் களிததும்பும் சுவர்க்கம்;
இனிய இசையும், இன்னல் தீர்க்கும் நடனமும்,
தோகை மயில்களை நிகர்த்த தேவ உலகப்
பாவைகளின் முன்பு தன்னையே மறந்தான்.
தேடிவந்த குலகுரு வியாழபகவானைக் கண்டும்
ஓடிவந்து வணங்கி வரவேற்காமல் இருந்தான்;
மமதை தலைக்கேறிய விண்ணவர் கோமானுக்கு
தமது அவசியம் இல்லையென விரைந்து மறைந்தார்.
குருவருள் இல்லையேல் குலச் சிறப்பேது ?
திருவும் உருவும் மங்கித் தவித்தான் தன்
பதவி தந்த ஆணவத்தால், குலகுருவுடைய
உதவியை இழந்து நின்ற மன்னன் இந்திரன்.
எத்தனை தேடினாலும் காணவே முடியவில்லை
மொத்தமாகத் தன்னை மறைத்துக் கொண்டவரை!
சித்தம் கலங்கியதால் சரணடைந்தான் இந்திரன்
வித்தகன் பிரம்ம தேவனிடம் வலியச் சென்று.
“அரசன் இன்றி ஒரு நாடும், குலகுருவின்றி
அரசனும், என்றும் இருக்கலாகாது இந்திரனே!
அரக்கன் விஸ்வரூபனை உன் குலகுருவாக
அரவணைத்து ஏற்றுக்கொள்வாய் உடனே நீ!
அரக்கனே ஆயினும் அறிவில் சிறந்தவன்;
அரும் துவஷ்டாவின் மகன் விஸ்வரூபன்”
பிரமனின் மொழியால் அமைதி அடைந்தவன்
குருவாக்கிக் கொண்டான் விஸ்வரூபனை.
“பாலுக்கும் காவல்! பூனைக்கும் தோழன்!”
தேவர் குலகுரு; ஆனால் அசுரர் மேல் பாசம்;
வேஷம் வெளிப்பட்டு விட்டது யாகத்தின்போது
மோசம் செய்யும் குரு விஸ்வரூபனுடையது!
நலம் வேண்டினான் நாவினால் சுரர்களின்;
நலம் வேண்டினான் மனத்தால் அசுரர்களின்;
திவ்விய திருஷ்டியால் உண்மை அறிந்தவன்,
திவ்விய ஆயுதத்தால் அசுரனை முடித்தான்.
அசுரன் ஆயினும் அரச குலகுருவன்றோ?
அமரர்கோனைப் பற்றியது பிரம்மஹத்தி!
ஒளி மழுங்கிப் பொலிவிழந்து தவித்தவன்,
வெளிப் போக்கிவிட்டான் பிரம்மஹத்தியை!
பாவத்தைப் பங்கிட்டுக் கொடுத்துவிட்டான்!
பாகங்கள் நான்காக அதைப் பிரித்த பின்னர்.
பாவையர், தருக்கள், நீர், நிலம் எனபவர்
பாவத்தை ஏற்றுக்கொண்ட நால்வகையினர்!
“பழி ஓரிடம் பாவம் ஓரிடம்” எனப் பகரும்
பழமொழியின் நுண்பொருள் இது தானோ?
செய்யாத தவறுக்குத் தண்டனை ஏற்றனர்
பொய்யாமல் இந்த நான்கு வகையினர்களும்.

1 (a). Indra’s arrogance.
Any person gets corrupted by power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Indra, the Lord of the Gods, became very arrogant and intoxicated by his power.
The heaven is a wonderful place! It is brightly lit, and is a carefree happy world.
It resonates with divine music and mesmerizing dances performed by the damsels of heaven called Apsaras. They are pretty and proud like our peacocks and danced as well too! Indra used to get immersed in the music and dance and was lost to the external world!
One day, Deva guru Bruhaspati came to Indra’s durbar, but the proud and arrogant king did not get up to receive his kulaguru with due honors. Bruhaspati felt humiliated and left the place promptly. He also hid himself completely!
Without the blessings and the guidance of the guru, Indra started losing his prosperity and glory. He was unhappy with his own arrogant behavior. However hard he tried, his guru was not to be found anywhere! He became desperate and sought the advice of Brahma.
Brahma told him,” A country without a king and a king without a guru will perish. Accept Viswaroopan as your new guru. He is an asura, but he is well versed, intelligent and accomplished”.
Indra made Viswaroopan as his new kulaguru. The new kulaguru had a soft corner for asuras- his own clan. While performing a yagna, the Deva-guru prayed for the welfare of the Devas openly and in his mind he was praying for the welfare of the asuras.
Indra came to know of this treachery and promptly killed Viswaroopan. Indra got afflicted by the Brahmahathi dosham. He was at his wit’s end since he lost his tejas, beauty, strength and glory.
The Devas came up with a perfect plan to get rid of his sin and the dosham. Indra gave away his Brahmahathi dosham to the four categories of innocent beings viz women, tress, earth and water.
These four categories bear the brunt of Indra’s sins. They were made the scapegoats and are suffering ever since for the sins they have not actually committed.

ஐந்து அசுரர்கள் சூழ்ந்தனர் படையுடன்
அஞ்சா நெஞ்சன் சக்கர வேந்தனை!
ஆயிரம் கரங்களால் எய்தான் பாணங்களை;
ஆயிரம் பாணங்களை விலக்கினான் போரில்.
சக்கரம் போலவே சுற்றிச் சுழன்றான்;
சக்கராஜன் போரிட்டான் அசுரருடன்!
போரினைத் தொடர்ந்தனர் வெகுநேரம்
சூரியனை மறைத்தது பரவிய புழுதி.
கரங்களால் பொழிந்த சர மழையால்
சிரங்களை அறுத்தான் சக்கர ராஜன்!
அயசிரசன் ஆவான் ஐவரின் தலைவன்;
ஐயுற்றான் ஐவரின் அழிவைக் கேட்டு.
“அழிப்பேன் சக்கரனை!” சபதம் இட்டவன்
அழிவது கண்டான் தன் எஞ்சிய படையும்!
வளைத்துக் கொள்ள ஆணையிட்டான
அழிக்கும் அஸ்திரத்தையும் விடுத்தான்.
ஆக்னேய அஸ்திரம் விடுத்தான் சக்கர ராஜன்
அக்னிக்கு முன்னால் நிற்க முடியுமா எதுவும்?
அக்னி அஸ்திரம் அழித்தது பாணத்தை;
அக்னி அஸ்திரம் அழித்து அயசிரசனை!
“யமனிடம் அனுப்புவேன் அவனை!” என்று
போர்க்களம் சூளுரைத்து வந்த அயசிரசன்,
யமனிடம் சென்று விட்டான் அவனே
போர்க்களம் வந்து நாழிகைப் பொழுதில்!
தெற்கு திசையில் அழித்தான் துஷ்டர்களை;
தென் மேற்கிலும் அழித்தான் துஷ்டர்களை;
மேற்கு திசை நோக்கிச் சென்றான்,
மேற்கொண்டு அசுரரை அழிப்பதற்கு!

The five asuraas surrounded Chakra Raajan completely. Chakra Raajan shot arrows using all his thousand mighty arms.
He destroyed the arrows shot by the asuras. He swirled like a wheel in the battle field and fought with those asuras and their armies all by himself.
The dust under their feet rose to form a screen hiding the sun. Chakra Raajan severed the heads of the five asuras and their army ran away.
Ayisirasan was the leader of those five asurass. He heard of the battle and its outcome and could not believe his ears. “I will kill that upstart with my own hands!” he swore and came to the battle field, gathering the soldiers who were still alive.
Chakra Raajan shot his Aagneya asthram . The arrow shot by Ayisirasan got destroyed like a moth in fire. Aagneya asthram destroyed the arrow and then the asuran Ayisirasan also.
He who entered the battle field swearing to kill Chara Raajan got killed by him in less than a naazhigai. (1 naazhigai = 24 minutes)
Chakra Raajan destroyed the the wicked asuraas living in the south and the south west before proceeding to the west to vanquish more asuras living there.

31. வனகர்த்தன்
மேற்கில் வசித்தான் அசுரன் வனகர்த்தன்,
மேற்கொண்டான் தவம் சிவனைக் குறித்து.
“பிறக்க வேண்டும் புஜபலம் மிகுந்த ஒரு மகன்;
சிறக்க வேண்டும் மூவுலகங்களையும் வென்று!”
காலம் கடந்தது; காட்சி தரவில்லை சிவபிரான்,
ஞாலம் வெல்லும் மகனை விரும்பிய அசுரனுக்கு.
தலையை அறுத்து அக்கினியில் இடும் போது,
பலியைத் தடுத்துத் தரிசனம் தந்தான் சிவன்.
“மனிதரும் தேவரும் வெல்ல முடியாத – வீர
மகன் பிறக்க அருள் புரிவீர்!” என்றான் இவன்.
பெருமிதம் கொண்டான் மகன் பிறந்ததும்;
செருக்கு மிகுந்துவிடத் துன்புறுத்தலானான்.
சாதுகளைத் தாக்கினான் ஈவு இரக்கமின்றி.
பேதமின்றிச் சேதப்படுத்தினான் முனிவரை.
சக்கர ராஜனை எதிர்க்க அனுப்பினான் – ஒரு
சதுரங்க சேனையைத் திரட்டி வனகர்த்தன்.
நெருப்பில் வீழ்ந்த விட்டில்கள் ஆயினர்.
நெருங்க முடியவில்லை சக்கர ராஜனை.
படை அழிந்து விட்டது என்று கேட்டதும்
மடை திறந்து கோபம் பெருக்கெடுத்தது.
ஜ்வால பாதனை அனுப்பினான் போருக்கு.
ஜெயிக்க முடியாத மகனே ஜ்வால பாதன்!
அரசகுமாரன் என்று எண்ணினான் பகைவனை.
அறியவில்லை அவன் சுதர்சனத்தின் உருவென!
அஸ்திரங்கள் பாய்ந்தன இரு திசைகளிலும்;
அஸ்திரங்கள் மாய்ந்தன தாக்கிக் கொண்டபின்.
சக்கர ராஜனின் அஸ்திரம் விரைந்து சென்றது;
மிக்க பலத்துடன் ஜ்வால பாதனை நெருங்கியது.
மாயையால் மறைந்துவிட முயன்ற அசுரனை
மாய்த்தது பாய்ந்து தாக்கிய சக்கரனின் பாணம்!
திரட்டி வந்தான் போரில் சிதறி ஓடிய வீரர்களை.
மரித்தான் தொடர்ந்து நடந்த போரில் வனகர்த்தன்.

Vanakartan lived in the western direction. He had done severe penance on Lord Siva. He wished for a son who would conquer all the three worlds. But Siva did not appear to him for a very long time.
Vanakartan got very angry and wanted to offer his own head to the fire in the yaaga kundam. When he was about to cut off his own head, Siva appeared and stopped him from doing so.
Vanakartan asked to be blessed with a son who will be invincible by occupants of all the three worlds. He got a son Jwaala Paadan as desired by him. He became arrogant and started troubling the sages, rushis and pious people.
He sent his army to fight Chakra Raajan but his army got destroyed like a cloud of locusts in a wild fire. When he heard of this, he became very angry and sent his son to fight Chakra Raajan.
Jwaala Paadan thought that Chakra Raajan was a prince. He did not know that he was the personification of Lord’s Sudarshan.
A war ensued between the asura army and Chakra Raajan. Jwaala Paadan tried to escape the asthram shot by Chakra Raajan by becoming invisible. But the ashtram did not spare his life.
On hearing the end of the invincible Jwaala Paadan, Vanakartan himself came to the battle field.. He fought valiantly but got killed by Chakra Raajan.

வடதிசையில் வாழ்ந்தான் அரக்கன் பேரண்டவன்;
வெடவெடக்கும் அண்ட சராசரம் பேர் கேட்டவுடன்!
பிரம்மாண்டமான சேனை வெள்ளத்துடன் வந்ததும்,
பெருமானை தியானித்தான் சக்கர ராஜன் ஒரு கணம்.
அசுர சேனைக்கு இணையான அரிய சேனை ஒன்று
அதே கணத்தில் தோன்றியது ஆயுதங்களுடன் அங்கு.
கொடிய யுத்தம் தொடங்கி நடந்தது உடனே – போரில்
மடிந்தனர் எண்ணற்ற வீரர்கள் இரு சேனைகளிலும்.
வெற்றியும், தோல்வியும் இன்றி நீண்ட போரில்
வெறி கொண்ட அசுரர்களின் கை ஓங்கலானது.
சக்கர ராஜனின் படை வீரர்கள் பின் வங்கலாயினர்;
மிக்க சினம் கொண்டு அவன் செய்தான் ஹூங்காரம்.
சினத்தில் தோன்றினான் தேவ புருஷன் பாவகன்!
“சின்னா பின்னம் செய்வாய் அசுரர்களை!” என
பாவகன் தலைமையில் பொருதனர் மீண்டும்;
பாய்ந்து முன்னேறிய சக்கர ராஜனின் வீரர்கள்.
பாவகன் மீது பாய்ந்தனர் அசுரர்கள் இப்போது!
பாவகன் எய்தான் மயக்கும் மோகன அஸ்திரம்!
மறந்தனர் தம்மையே; துறந்தனர் போரையே;
எறிந்தனர் ஆயுதங்களை; மறிந்தனர் நிலத்தில்!
பேரண்டவன் எய்தான் ஹாஹாகாரம் செய்தபடி
மோகன அஸ்திரத்தை வெல்லும் ஞான அஸ்திரம்.
தூக்கத்தில் இருந்து எழுபவர்போல மீண்டும்
எழுந்து தாக்கினர் ஆயுதங்களால் அசுரர்கள்.
எய்தான் பாவகன் தன் கிரௌஞ்ச வாளியை!
எய்தான் பேரண்டவன் பைசாச அஸ்திரத்தை!
இரண்டும் தாக்கின அசுரர்கள் படையினையே!
பேரண்டவன் எய்தான் பிரமன் தந்த சூலாயுதம்!
வாயு அஸ்திரத்தை எடுத்து விடுத்தான் பாவகன்;
வாயு அஸ்திரம் வாயுவென விரைந்து சென்றது.
வாரிச் சுருட்டிப் பாய்போல எறிந்தது அசுரனை!
நேரில் பார்த்தவர் வீழ்ந்தனர் வியப்புக் கடலில்!
மண்டை உடைந்து மடிந்தான் அசுரன் பேரண்டவன்;
சண்டை முடிந்து திரும்பி விட்டான் சக்கர ராஜன்.
ஆணைகளை இனிதாக நிறைவேற்றிய பின்னர்
இணைந்தான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனின் சக்கரத்தில் மீண்டும்.
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
வேறு புராணங்களில் காணப்பட்ட

#32. PEraNdavan
The asuran PEraNdavan lived in the northern direction. His name was enough to infuse fear and terror in the mind of anyone who heard it.
He came to fight Chakra Raajan with an immense army resembling the endless ocean. Chakra Raajan paused for a minute and prayed to his lord Naaraayan. Immediately there appeared vast army on his side which could match the asura army.
A terrifying war ensued. The soldiers got killed in both sides of the army. The battle went on for a long time, well matched by the two huge armies.
Then the asura army started gaining on the army of Chakra Raajan. He did a loud hoonkaaram and from that terrifying sound appeared a brave warrior. Chakra Raajan ordered the warrior, “Go forth and destroy the army of the asura!”
Chakra Raajan’s army lead by the warrior fought more fiercely than before. The asura army started attacking the new warrior. He shot his Mohana asthram which caused delusion in the minds of the asura soldiers.
They forgot themselves. They forgot that they were a war. They threw down their arms. They rolled down on the ground.
PEraNdavan shot the asthram which would bring them out of the delusion. They woke up as if from deep sleep and continued to fight.
Now Chakra Raajan shot the Krounja VaaLi and PEraNdavan shot his Pasisaasam. But both these started attacking the army of the asura. PEraNdavan threw the Soolaayudam given by Brahma and the warrior shot his Vaayu ashtram.
The Vaayu asthram sped as fast as the wind . It lifted up PEraNdavan and threw him far away as if he were a mere mat. PeRaNdavan died of a broken crown. Chakra Raajan had completed his mission successfully and returned to lord Naaraayan. He merged with the Sudharshan in Lord’s hand.
This collection of stories found in the other PuraaNaas comes to an end with this.

அரசன், மகான் ரிஷபரின் மகன்.
பாரத வர்ஷம் என்னும் அழகிய
காரணப் பெயர், இவராலேயே!
மனைவி, மக்கள் மோட்சத் தடை
எனவே நினைத்து, அவரை விடுத்து,
அனைத்தையும் துறந்து வாழ்ந்தார்,
அழகிய சக்ர நதியின் கரையினிலே.
ஒரு நாள் கண்டார், ஒரு பெண் மான்
அருகினில் ஆற்று நீர் பருகுவதை.
பூரண கர்ப்பிணியான அம் மானும்
நீர் வேட்கையைத் தீர்க்கும்போதே,
விழுந்தது செவிகளில், சிம்ம கர்ஜனை!
விழுந்தது நழுவி நீரில், அதன் கர்ப்பம்!
தாவிய பெண்மான் கரையிலேயே விழ,
ஆவி பிரிந்தது அவ்வழகிய மானின்.
நீரில் அடித்துச் செல்லப்படுகின்ற,
சீரிய கர்ப்பத்தைத் துரத்திச் சென்று,
வீரியத்துடன் மீட்ட பரதன், அதன்
காரியங்கள் அனைத்தையும் செய்ய,
தாயும் ஆகித் தந்தையுமாகிப் பேணி
தவ நியமங்களைத் துறந்துவிட்டான்.
மனம் முழுவதும் மான்குட்டி மீதே!
தினமும் விரும்பிய முக்தி மீதல்ல.
இறுதி நினைவுகள் மான் மீதே இருக்க,
பிறவி எடுத்தார், ஒரு மானாகவே!
பக்தியும், ஞானமும் மறையவில்லை,
முக்தியின் ஆசையும் குறையவில்லை.
தனியாகவே அம் மான் வாழ்ந்து வந்தது,
தவச் சீலரின் ஒருவர் ஆசிரமத்தருகே!
இலை, தழை, புல்லைத் தின்ற மான்
இயற்கை எய்தியது, நீர் நிலையிலேயே!
தவச் சீலரான அந்தணர் ஒருவருக்குத்
தவறாமல் சென்று பிறந்தான் பரதன்.
பாச வலைக்கு அஞ்சி வெருண்டதால்,
மோசம் போகாமல் காத்துக்கொண்டான்.

JADA BHARATAN.
Bharathan, the son of King Rishaban, was a famous king of ancient India. India is named as Bharatha kandam in honor of this king.He wished to obtain Mokhsham. He thought that his love for the members of his family would disturb his spiritual saadhana. He left his palace and stared living hermit’s life near the banks of river Chakra.
One day he watched a female deer drinking water in the river. It was bulging with its baby in the womb. Suddenly the roar of a lion was heard. The terrified deer jumped to the river bank but its fetus fell in the river and was being carried way by the stream. The female deer collapsed and died. Bharathan saved the little baby deer from the river and took care of it.
Slowly his mind and concentration were completely absorbed by the deer and his spiritual saadhanaas took a back seat.His mind was dwelling on the deer when he gave up his spirit and so he was reborn as a deer.
The deer remembered its bakthi and desire for mukthi.But it could not do any saadanaa as now it was merely a deer. He lived by himself, eating dried leaves and grass, near the aashram of a rushi.
He died in the river and was reborn in the family of brahmins. He was afraid to move closely with anyone-fearing that he might get caught in the net of affection and waste one more janma.
He ate whatever he could get hold of and slept on the bare ground. He wore dirty clothes and behaved like a mentally challenged person and soon came to be called as Jada Bharathan.
The thoughts prevailing in one’s mind when his spirit leaves his body determines his next birth. It will be a safe bet to keep one’s mind always focused on God as this might give us a chance to merge with Him.

“போகத்தில் மூழ்கிய இந்திரனை அழிப்பாய்!”
தந்தை சொல் மிக்க மந்திரம் இல்லையே!
தந்தை துவஷ்டாவின் பழி தீர்க்க விழைந்து,
விருத்திரன் விரைந்தான் இந்திரனை நோக்கி;
கருத்தழிந்து மனக் கவலையுற்றான் இந்திரன்!
ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் சளைத்தவரும் அல்ல!
ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் இளைத்தவரும் அல்ல!
பெரும் போர் மூண்டது சுர அசுரர்களிடையே!
இருபுறங்களிலுமே மிகப் பெரிய சேதங்கள்.
ஓடினான் மீண்டும் பிரமனிடம் இந்திரன்;
ஓடினார்கள் இருவரும் திருமாலை நாடி!
“திவ்விய ஆயுதம் வலுவிழந்து விட்டது.
தெய்வத் தச்சனிடம் புதியது செய்துகொள்!
பாற்கடல் கடைந்த சுர அசுரர்கள் தங்கள்
தோற்றறியாத படைக்கலன்களை எல்லாம்,
அன்று அளித்தனர் அருந்தவர் ததீசியிடம்,
பின்னர் விழுங்கிவிட்டார் அவர் அவற்றை.
அத்துணை படைக்கலன்களும் இன்றுவரை
அத்தன் முதுகெலும்பில் பொருந்தியுள்ளன.
தண்டு வடத்தைக்கேட்டு நீ வாங்கி வந்தால்
தொண்டு புரியும் அது புதிய வச்சிராயுதமாக!”
முனிவர் ததீசியிடம் கோரினான் யாசகம்,
தனிப் பெரும் ஆயுதம் விரும்பிய இந்திரன்;
“என்றோ மடிந்து மறையும் உடலை நான்
இன்றே தருவேன் உனக்காக!’ என்றார் ததீசி.
அன்பிலார் எல்லாம் தமக்குரியர் ஆவார்.
அன்புடையோர் என்பும் உரியர் பிறர்க்கு!
அன்பே வடிவாகிய முனிவன் உடல் துறந்து,
என்பினை அளித்துச் சேர்ந்தான் சிவலோகம்.
தேவத் தச்சன் உடன் விரைந்து வந்தான்.
தேவர் கோனுக்கு புது ஆயுதம் சமைத்தான்.
புதிய வச்சிராயுதம் பெற்றதால் மகிழ்ந்து
புதிய பலம் பெற்றது தேவர்கள் கூட்டம்.
நால்வகைப் படைகளும் மீண்டும் கூடின.
நல்ல முறையில் அணிவகுத்து நின்றன.
மீண்டும் யுத்தம் புரிய விரும்பியவர்கள்,
மீண்டும் வந்தனர் பெரும் அமர்க்களத்துக்கு.

1 (b). THE GIFT OF DADHICHI.
Thvashtaa, Viswaroopan’s father became very angry with Indra and wanted to avenge his son’s murder.He performed a yaagam in order to destroy Indra.
The powerful Vruthraasuran appeared as a result of the Yaagam. Thvashtaa ordered him to destroy Indra. Vtutraasuran went looking for Indra.
The war between the asuras and devas went on and on for a long time! Indra could not vanquish Vrutraaasuran. He ran to Brahma for his advice.
Together they ran to Vishnu for His advice. Vishnu told them, “Indra’s vajraayutham has lost all its power. Indra has to get a new weapon made by Viswakarma.
During the time of the amrutha mathanam, both the suras and asuras had handed over all their weapons to the maharushi Dadhichi for safe keeping.
None of them went back to collect their weapons. Hence the maharushi had swallowed them. They all have got attached to his spine. If you could make the new Vajraayutham from his spine, you will become invincible”.
Indra begged the maharushi Dadhichi for the gift of his back bone. Anyone would have refused such a gift-the spine of a living man!
But Dadhichi was a mahaan and was not attached to his physical body. He promptly agreed to gift his spine and said to Indra,”Sooner or later my body will perish and my bones will rot. Let it be now and for a holy cause”.
He sat in meditation and cast off his physical body. Viswakarma made a new vajraayutham with the rushi’s spine. Deva’s hope for victory was renewed. So also their power and strength.They got ready for a fresh war with the invincible Vrutraasuran.
The army of the Deva reached the battle field.

பெருவலிவுடையவர், திருமால் போன்றவர்;
உள்ளங்கையில் அள்ளி எடுத்த முனிவர் அத்
தெள்ளிய கடல் நீரைப் பருகியே விட்டார்.
அலைகடலின் அடியினில் அமைந்த ஒரு
மலையின் உச்சியில் இருந்து தவம் செய்த,
விருத்திரன் தலையை அறுத்துத் தள்ளினான்
பெருமை மிகு வச்சிராயுதத்தால் இந்திரன்!
பற்றியது மீண்டும் பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம்!
வற்றியது இந்திரனின் வலிவும், பொலிவும்;
மறைந்தன அவன் அழகும், பெருமையும்,
கரைந்தன அவன் வடிவும், இளமையும்!
தன்னை மறைத்துக் கொண்டான் நாணத்தால்,
தண்டில், ஒரு தாமரையில், ஒரு நீர் நிலையில்.
எத்தனை காலம் உருண்டு ஓடியதோ அறியோம்!
எத்தனை மாற்றங்கள் நிகழ்ந்தனவோ அறியோம்!
“மன்னன் இல்லாத நாடா?” என்று உருவாக்கினர்
மண்ணுலக நகுஷனை விண்ணுலக வேந்தனாக!
பெண்ணாசையால் மதியிழந்து குறுமுனிசாபத்தால்
மண்ணுலகில் மலைப்பாம்பாய் வீழ்ந்தான் நகுஷன்.
மனம் கனிந்த வியாழபகவான் அழைத்தார்.
மனம் வருந்திய இந்திரனுக்கு உரைத்தார்.
” பூவுலகம் செல்வாய்! ஈசனைப் பூசித்து
புதிய சக்தி பெற்று மீண்டும் வருவாய்!”
கயிலையில் துவங்கினான் பூசனையை;
காஞ்சி வந்து விட்டபோதும் மாற்றமில்லை!
பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகவும் இல்லை
அரனின் அருளாசிகள் கிடைக்கவும் இல்லை.
கடம்ப வனத்தை அடைந்தான் இந்திரன்;
அடைந்தபோதே நடந்தது ஓர் அற்புதம்!
பிரம்மஹத்தி தோஷம் விலகிச் செல்லவே
பிரமிக்க வைக்கும் ஒளியினை அடைந்தான்.

1.(c). KADAMBAVANAM.
The fierce battle between the Deva and Asura was resumed and renewed. It was like a ‘chanda maarutham’ and a war between two huge clouds! In the middle of the battle Vrutrasuran entered the sea and disappeared from every- body’s sight!
As usual Indra ran to Brahma for guidance. Brahma advised him to seek the help of sage Agasthya. He was no doubt small in stature but was as great as Maha Vishnu himself.
Sage Agasthya took the water of the sea in his palm and drank it completely. Vrutrasuran was found sitting on the top of a cliff, at the bottom of the sea and doing penance. Indra cut off his head with the new Vajraayutham.
Once again Indra was afflicted by the Brahmahathi dosham. He lost his beauty, strength, valor and tejas. Overcome by a sense of shame, he hid himself in the stem of a lotus flower, away from everybody’s sight. Years rolled by!
Devas wanted a new king since they could not find Indra anywhere! They crowned the famous king Nahushan as the new Indra. Nahushan soon got corrupted by power and started coveting Sasi Devi-Indra’s patni.
Guided by Indra, Sasi Devi enacted his plan. Nahushan was asked to ride a palanquin carried by the Sapta Rushis. He kicked sage Agasthya and was transformed to a huge python by the curse of the angered rushi.
Bruhaspati took pity on Indra. He advised Indra to go to Boolokam and worship Lord Siva, to get back his lost glory. Indra worshipped Siva in Kailash and started his Theertha Yathra southwards. He worshiped Siva in various holy places and reached Kanchi but all in vain. The dosham was neither absolved nor annulled.
When he reached kadambavanam, a miracle happened! The Brahmahathi dosham left him completely.He regained his original form and was overwhelmed by the transformation.

ஒன்பது நாட்களின் முடிவில் பரீக்ஷித் அடைந்தான் முக்தி.
"புத் என்னும் நரகத்தில் இருந்து என்னை மீட்டுக் காத்த
சத் புத்திரன் நீயே!" என்று பரீக்ஷித் பாராட்டினான் மகனை.

An introduction to Devi Bhaagavatam
Devi Bhaagavatam was composed by Sage Vyaasaa. King Janameyan - son of King Pareekshit- was the first one to listen to it.
King Pareekshit placed a dead snake around the neck of a rushi in deep meditation.
He was curses by the son of the sage and died an untimely death bitten by the deadly serpent Takshakan.
To absolve his sin and release his from the sufferings in Hell, Janameayan listened to the Devi Bhaagavatam told in nine days by sage Vyaasa.

பரத்வாஜரின் நண்பர் ரைப்யர்,
பாரதத்தின் சிறந்த வித்துவான்.
தந்தையர் நண்பர்கள் ஆனாலும்,
மைந்தர்கள் மிக மாறுபட்டவர்கள்.
ரைப்யரின் மகன்கள் இருவர்,
பராவசு மற்றும் அர்வாவசு.
தந்தை போன்றே இருவரும்
வேதவல்லுனர், வித்துவான்கள்.
பரத்வாஜரின் மகன் யவக்ரீவன்,
சிரமப் படாமலேயே கல்வி கற்க
ஒரு முயற்சி செய்தான், கொடிய
நெருப்பினில் தன் உடலை வாட்டியே!
இந்திரனை நோக்கிக் கடும் தவம்,
“எந்த முயற்சியும் இன்றியே அரிய
வேத வேதாந்தங்களின் அறிவினைத்
தோதாகத் தந்தருளுமாறு” வேண்டியே.
கங்கைக் கரையில் கண்டான் அவன்,
மங்கிய பார்வை உடைய கிழவனை;
அங்கையில் மணலை அள்ளி அள்ளியே,
கங்கையில் வீசும் வினோத மனிதனை.
“எண்ணம் என்ன சொல்லும் தாத்தா,
தண்ணீரில் மணலை அள்ளி வீசுவதில்!
தள்ளாத வயதில் இது என்ன ஒரு விதப்
பொல்லாத விளையாட்டு உமக்குக் கூறும்”
“பொங்கும் கங்கையை கடந்து செல்ல,
தங்கும் மணல் அணை கட்டுகின்றேன்.
எத்தனை பேர்கள் இந்த ஆற்றினை
யத்தனமின்றிக் கடக்க, அது உதவும்!”
“புத்தி பேதலித்துவிட்டதா, அல்லது
புத்தி மழுங்கியே போயிற்றா கிழவா!
கங்கை ஆற்றை ஒரு மண் அணையால்,
எங்கேனும் தடுக்க முடியுமா, சொல்லும்!”
“குருவிடம் சென்று சிரமப்படாமலேயே,
பெரும் வேதங்களைக் கற்க முடிந்தால்,
பொங்கும் கங்கையில் இம்மணல் அணை
தங்கும்; வேண்டாம் வீண் ஐயங்கள்!”
இப்போது புரிந்தது, யவக்ரீவனுக்கு
அப்போது வந்திருப்பது யார் என்று!
தவத்துக்கு அருள் செய்ய வேண்டித்
தன்னைத் தேடி வந்துள்ள இந்திரனே.
அடி பணிந்தான், ஆசி கோரினான்;
“குரு அருள் இன்றி கல்வி இல்லை!
ஒரு குருவினை நாடுவாய், நீயும்
பெரும் வித்துவானாகவே ஆவாய்”
சுவர் இல்லாமல் சித்திரமா?
குரல் இல்லாமல் இன்னிசையா?
கால் இல்லாமல் நாட்டியமா?
குரு இல்லாமல் ஒரு கல்வியா?
வாழ்க வளமுடன்,
விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
