#20 b. The send off


The wedding celebrations went on for four days. After that they had to return to their place of residence. The newly wedded couple took leave of everyone.


Queen could not control her tears at the thought of separation form her dear daughter. VaguLa Maalikai consoled her saying, "Any girl will have to go to her husband's home after getting married. After all we live close by and we can meet as often as we want to"


The queen told Padmaavati how to behave responsibly in her in law's home. The king spoke to Sinivaasan with frankness. He told his son in law, "Princess Padmaavati has been pampered by us. I can't assure that she will behave responsibly in your home If he does anything wrong please forgive her. I want you to live happily with her"


Srinivaasan wanted to grant him a boon but the only boon the king wanted was this,"may we never forget you. Grant this boon to me and my citizens"


Srinivaasan assured him, "I will live in your mind always and no one can forget me. " The group accompanying the couple left for Seshaachalam. The king and Queen accompanied them.

#21. பிரியா விடை

ஆகாசராஜன், தரணி தேவி திரும்பிப்
போகாமல் உடன் சென்றனர் வெகுதூரம்,

ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் சொன்னான் பத்மாவதியிடம்,
"இனிமையாகப் பேசித் திருப்பி அனுப்பி விடு!"

தேற்றினாள் பத்மாவதி தாய் தந்தையரை,
"ஏற்க வேண்டும் தவிர்க்க இயலாத பிரிவை!"

சேஷாச்சலம் செல்லவில்லை ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்
சென்றனர் அகத்தியரின் ஆசிரமத்த்ூக்கு.

சுவர்ணமுகி நதித் தீரத்த்ை அடைந்தனர்;
பர்ணசாலை அமைத்தனர் மணமக்களுக்கு.

இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்
தந்தார் பிரமன் பொன்னும் மணியும் பரிசாக

கரவீர புரம் திரும்பினாள் லக்ஷ்மி தேவி;
தர விரும்பினாள் தடையில்லாத ஆனந்தம்!

ஆடிப்பாடிக்காலம் கழித்தனர் மணமக்கள்;
ஓடை நீரில் இறங்கி விளையாடினர் .

மலருடன் சென்று ஆராதித்தாள்
மறவாமல் அனுதினம் வகுளமாலிகை.

மலர் சூட்டி அலங்கரித்தனர் பத்மாவதியை
மாலை வேளைகளில் முனிவர் மனைவிகள்.

குதிரை வீரன் விரைந்து வந்தான் ஒருநாள்;
அதிர வைக்கும் செய்தி ஒன்று சொன்னான்.

"அரசன் உடல்நிலை மோசம் அடைந்துள்ளது
அரசியார் அனுப்பினார் செய்தி தெரிவிக்க."

ரதம் தயாரானது பயணத்துக்கு - இருவரும்
விரைந்தனர் உடன். நாராயண புரத்துக்கு

#21. The happy couple

Akaasa Raajan and DharaNi Devi accompanied Srinivaasan and Padmaavati for a very long distance. They could not think of going away from Padmaavati. Srinivaasan told her, "Talk to your parents and make them realize that this separation is unavoidable."

Padmaavati spoke to them explaining the situation and they returned to their palace. Srinivaasan did not want to go back to the anthill in Seshaachalam. He went to the ashram of sage Agasthya instead. The sage was very happy to have the newly married couple stay in his place. He got a new parNa saala made ready for them

All the Deva went back to their respective places. Brahma presented gold and gem stones to the couple. Lakshmi Devi went back to Karaveera Puram - since she did not want to disturb the happiness of the newly weds.

Their time was spent in dancing, singing and playing in the river water. VaguLa Maalikaa went and worshiped her god every day with fresh flowers. The wives of the rushis decorated Padmaavati with flowers in the evenings.

One day a soldier came on a horseback. He brought bad news. The king Aakaasa Rajan was ill and the Queen had sent for them . A chariot was made ready and Srinivaasan and Padmaavati rushed to NaaraayaNa puram immediately

#22. விண்ணுலக வாழ்வு

சயனித்து இருந்தான் ஆகாசராஜன் மஞ்சத்தில்;
சோகமே வடிவாக தரணி தேவி அருகினில்!

இளவரசனும், இளவல் தொண்டைமானும்
இருந்தனர் கால் மாட்டில் அமர்ந்தபடி.

மகளைக் கண்டதும் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான்;
மருமகனைக் கண்டு நெகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தான்.

ஒப்படைத்தான் இளவரசனை ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்;
ஒப்புக் கொள்ளச் செய்தான் அரசன் தன் அரசி

தரணியின் உடன்கட்டை ஏறும் முடிவினை.
தரணியில் வாழ்வினைத் துறந்தான் மன்னன்.

சுகர் செய்வித்தார் இறுதிச் சடங்குகள்.
சிதை மூட்டினான் இளவரசன் வசுதானன்.

சர்வாலங்கார பூஷிதையாக தரணி தேவி
சுற்றி வந்தாள் எரியும் சிதையை மும்முறை.

தீயினில் புகுந்து விட்டாள் ஒரு நொடியில்!
தீ எரிந்தது கொழுந்து விட்டு வானளவாக!

வந்து இறங்கியது விண்ணிலிருந்து விமானம்;
வந்தனர் திவ்யசரீரத்துடன் இருவரும் எழுந்து!

ஆகாசராஜனும், தரணி தேவியும் அமர்ந்ததும்
வேகமாக விண்ணில் பறந்து மறைந்தது அது!

# 22. Swarggam


Aakaasa Raajan was lying down on his cot. The Queen DharaNi Devi was seated near him. The prince Vasudaanaa and the king's younger brother ThoNdaimaan were seated near his feet.


The king was happy to see his loving daughter Padmaavati. He felt moved by the presence of his son in law Srinivaasan. He entrusted Vasudaanaa under the care of Srinivaasan and made all of them promise that the queen would be allowed to follow sati after his death.


The king Aakaasa Raajan breathed his last peacefully. Sage Sugar performed his last rites. Vasudaanaa lighted the funeral pyre. The queen DharaNi Devi was decorated beautifully in silk and all her jewels. She went round the burning pyre thrice and jumped into the fire in a trice. The tongues of the flame leaped heavenwards.


A vimaanam came down from the heaven. The king and queen emerged from the fire with their divya sareeram and got into the vimaanam. It took off and flew fast and was out of their sight in no time at all.

#23a. சிங்காதனம்

வசுதானனுக்கு முடிசூட்டினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்;
வசுதானனுக்கு உதவிடத் தொண்டைமான்!

திரும்பினர் அகத்தியரின் ஆசிரமத்துக்கு;
திரும்பியது இயல்பு நிலை மனதில் மெல்ல.

தொண்டைமான் எதிர்த்தான் புதிய அரசனை!
"பண்டைக் காலத்தில் நானே இளவரசன்!" என்று.

தந்தைக்குப் பின் தனயன் ஆளவேண்டும்!" என்ற
தன் கட்சியை எடுத்து உரைத்தான் வசுதானன்.

பூசல் தொடங்கியது மிகச் சிறிய அளவில்;
பூசல் பெருகி விட்டது வெகு விரைவில்.

பிரதானிகளின் துணையோடு தொண்டைமான்
அரசன் வசுதானனைஅழிக்க விரும்பினான்.

உதவி கோரி ஓடிவந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்;
மதி இழந்தவனிடம் என்ன பயன் பேசுவதால்?

அளித்தான் அவனுக்கு சங்கு சக்கரதத்ை.
களித்தான் தொண்டைமான் வென்றது போல.

செய்தி அறிந்ததும் பதறி ஓடி வந்தான் அங்கு
செய்வது அறியாத வசுதானன் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம்.

"என்னைக் கொல்ல எண்ணும் சித்தப்பாவுக்கு
எந்தை போன்ற உங்கள் உதவி தேவையா?

பாசமே இல்லையா பத்மாவதி அக்கா! நான்
மோசம் போவதில் உனக்குச் சம்மதமா?"

தேற்றினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் மைத்துனனை,
"தோற்றுப் போவான்; கவலைப் படாதே!

ஆயுதங்கள் உள்ளன அவனிடம் ஆனால்
ஆதரித்துப் போரிடுவேன் உன் பக்கம் நான்.

சமரசம் பேசு முதலில். சண்டையைத் தவிர்!"
சமரசத்துக்கு ஒப்பவில்லை தொண்டைமான்!

#23a. The dispute

Srinivaasan crowned Vasudaanan as the new king. Thondaimaan was appointed to assist the young king. Srinivaasan and Padmaavati returned to the aashram of sage Agasthya.

Thondaimaan opposed the rule of the young king. He wanted to become the new king. Vasudaanan said that after a king his son should become the ruler. There was discord between their views and it escalated very fast.

Thondaimaan wanted to get rid of Vasudaanan with the help of his loyal courtiers. He went to Srinivaasan and requested for his help. Srinivaasan knew that it would be futile to argue with a mad man and try to make him see good sense. So he lent his conch and sudharshan to Thondaimaan - who was elated with this gesture.

Vasudaanan became desperate and went to Srinivaasan. "Uncle wants to kill me and usurp the kingdom. You are helping him in his mission. I regard you as highly as my own father! My dear sister! Is it alright with you if I get cheated of my rightful kingdom?"

Srinivaasan consoled him . He said, "Thondaimaan has only my weapons but I will fight in your side. He can never win the war. But I prefer that we settle the matter without a war. So first try to make up with him peacefully "

Vasudaanan tried his best but Thondaimaan was adamant and wanted a war to settle the dispute.

#23b. சண்டை

அமைதியை விரும்பியது ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் மட்டுமே!
ஆகாயக் கோட்டை காட்டினான் தொண்டைமான்!

நாரணனின் சங்கும், சக்கரமும் கிடைத்ததும்
நாராயாணபுர சிங்காதனம் கிடைத்தது போல!

சமரசத்துக்குத் தயாராக இல்லை அவன்
சமருக்குத் தயார் ஆனான் படை திரட்டி.

சிற்றப்பன் போருக்குத் தயார் ஆனதால்,
சிறப்பாகத் தயார் ஆனான் வசுதானனும்.

செய்தி அனுப்பினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனுக்கு;
செய்தி வந்ததும் சென்றான் களத்துக்கு.

"உயிர்ச் சேதம் சம்மதமா?" என்றாள் பத்மாவதி.
"உயிர்ச் சேதம் தவிர்க்கச் செல்கிறேன்!" என்றான்.

நிலமை தலை கீழாக இருந்தது அங்கு!
நிகழவில்லை சமரசம் எண்ணியபடி!

சொன்னபடித் தலைமை தாங்கினான்
மன்னன் வசுதானன் படைக்கு ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்

யுத்தத்தில் உயிர்ச் சேதத்தைத் தவிர்க்க
யுக்தி ஒன்று செய்தான் களத்தில்.

தொண்டைமான் முன் ரதம் செல்லத்
தொண்டைமான் எய்தான் மார்பில் அம்பு.

மயங்கிச் சாய்ந்து விட்டான் ரதத்திலேயே
தயங்கிச் சண்டையை நிறுத்தினான் எதிரி.

ஆசிரமத்தை எட்டியது போர்ச் செய்தி
"பேசி நிறுத்துவேன் போரை!" என்று கூறி

முனிவருடன் கிளம்பினாள் பத்மாவதி
தனி ஒருவளாகப் போரை நிறுத்துவதற்கு.

#23b. The War


Only Sreenivaasan wished for peace but both Thondaimaan and Vasudaanan got ready for a battle. Thondaimaan imagined that he had conquered the battle with the help of the conch and the sudarshan given to him by Sreenivaasan.


Vasudaanan sent a message to Sreenivaasan to keep his promise and lead his army in the battle. Sreenivaasan left for the battle field. Padmaavati asked him,"Do you want the blood shed between an uncle and his nephew?"


Sreenivaasan replied to her, "I go there to stop the blood shed by any means - fair or foul"


The battle started. Srinivaasan wanted to stop it and decided to play a trick. He went in his chariot in front of Thondaimaan and fainted on the chariot when struck by an arrow shot by his enemy.

Thondaimaan got confused and stopped the war immediately. The news that Sreenivaasan had fainted on his chariot reached the ashram of Sage Agasthya. Padmaavati got wild on hearing the news and rushed to the battle field to stop the war at any cost.

#23c. சமரசம்

"அடிபட்டு மயங்கி விட்டான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!"
துடித்து விட்டாள் பத்மாவதி செய்தி கேட்டு.

கதறி அழுதபடி ஓடி வந்தாள் அவனிடம்,
பதறிய அவன் கேட்டான், "ஏன் வந்தாய்?"

"சமரம் பேச வந்தார் தேவியார் - தாங்கள்
சமரில் அடிபட்டது கேட்டு துடித்து விட்டார்."

அகத்தியர் இடைமறித்துக் கூறினார் - ஆனால்
"அதற்கு இடமே இல்லை!" என்றான் அவன்.

"இருவரையும் வரவழையுங்கள் என்னிடம்;
இருவருக்கும் செய்கிறேன் நான் சமரஸம்"

அகத்தியர் அழைத்து வந்தார் இருவரையும்
அகத்தீ கண்களில் வந்தது பத்மாவதிக்கு!

"அழிவதென முடிவுசெய்து விட்டீர்களா?
பழி பாவத்துகும் அஞ்சுவது இல்லையா?"

"இளவரசுப் பட்டம் காட்டினார் அண்ணா!
இது நினைவு இல்லையா பெண்ணே ?"

"அரசனாக்கினார் என்னை ஸ்ரீநிவாசனே!
தர வேண்டாமா நாம் அதற்கு மதிப்பு ?"

"சமரஸத்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்வார் இவர்;
சம்மதமா இருவருக்கும் கூறுங்கள்!" என

"தந்தைக்குப் பின் அவர் இடத்தில் நாங்கள்
எந்தையாக்க் கருதுவது இவரைத் தானே!"

"நாட்டை சம பாகங்கள் ஆக்குவோம்
நாட்டை ஆள வேண்டும் நட்புடன்!'

இருவரும் ஏற்றனர் இந்த முடிவினை;
இரண்டாக்கப் பட்டது அந்த ராஜ்ஜியம்.

தொண்டை நாடு தொண்டைமானுக்கு!
சோழ நாடு கிடைத்தது வசுதானனுக்கு!

நிலைமையைச் சீர் செய்து திரும்பினர்
நிம்மதியாக அகத்தியருடன் அவர்கள்.

#23c. The compromise


"Sreenivaasan had fainted on his chariot in the battle field." This news was enough to shock Padmaavati. She ran to his chariot. He came round and asked her, "Why are you here?"

Sage Agasthya intervened and told Srinivaasan, "Padmaaavati came to make the two warring persons come to a compromise." Srinivaasan told them, "There is no chance for compromise now. They both want a war."

Padmaavati told him,"Bring those two warring people to me. I will make them come to a compromise." Sage Agasthya brought them to her.

Padmaavati was so angry with them that her eyes spat fire!"Have you decided to destroy each other?' she demanded. Thondaimaan said, "Do you remember that my brother had crowned me as the prince when he was alive" Vasudaanan told her, "Srinivaasan himself crowned me as the king"

Pamaavati told them, "My husband will offer a solution to this if you will abide by his wishes" Srinivaasan said, "We can divide the country into two halves. Each of you can rule a half without enmity."

Both the persons agreed to this . The country was divided into two. Thondimaan got the Thondai Nadu and Vasudaana got the Chozha Nadu.

Having successfully averted a war and the blood shed Srinivaasan, Padmaavati and sage Aagasthya returned to the aashram.

#24 a. ஆலயம்

தொண்டைமான் காண வந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை
கொண்டு வந்தான் ஏராளமான பரிசுகளை .

" ஒன்றும் குறை இல்லை இந்த ஆசிரமத்தில்;
என்ன செய்வேன் பரிசுகளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு ?"

"எண்ணியிருந்தேன் அண்ணன் மருமகன் என
உண்மை ஸ்வரூபத்தை உணர்ந்தேன் இப்போது!"

"அன்னிய இடத்தில் எத்தனை காலம்?
பொன்னும் மணியும் தர வேண்டாம்

தங்குமிடம் அமைத்துத் தரலாமே
எங்களுக்கு அது தனியிடம் ஆகுமே!"

"எங்கே எப்படி அமைக்க வேண்டும்;
தாங்கள் கோடி காட்டினாலே போதும்!"

மாலையில் சென்றனர் மீண்டும் புற்றுக்கு.
"ஆலயம் நிர்மாணிப்பாய் இந்த இடத்தில்!

புற்று உள்ள இடத்தில் வேண்டும் கர்ப்பகிரகம்
சுற்றிலும் எழுப்ப வேண்டும் மதில் சுவர்களை.

வைகுந்த வாசல் வேண்டும் இடையில்
இரண்டாம் பிராகாரத்தில் வேண்டியவை

மடைப் பள்ளியும், கல்யாண மண்டபமும்,
மணக்கும் திரவியசாலை, பள்ளி அறையும்!

இருக்க வேண்டும் மூன்றாவது பிராகாரத்தில்
உக்கிராண அறைகள், ஆஸ்தான மண்டபங்கள்.

வேண்டும் அழகிய ஏழு வாயில்கள்!
வேண்டும் அழகிய இரு கோபுரங்கள்!

வேண்டும் கோபுரம் நுழை வாயிலில்;
வேண்டும் கோபுரம் பிராகார வாயிலில்;

வேண்டும் பலி பீடம், துவஜ ஸ்தம்பம்!
தொண்டைமான் நினைவில் கொண்டான்.

#24 a. The Temple

Thondaimaan visited Srinivaasan . He brought many precious gifts with him. Srinivaasan told him, "I do not lack anything here. What will I do with these rich gifts?'

Thondaimaan told him, "I was under the impression that you are my brother's son in law. But now I know who you really are!"

"If you build me a temple instead of showering me with such gifts, we will have a place of our own to live in" Srinivaasan told him.

Thondaimaan told him, "Just tell me how you want it to be built and it will be ready very soon."

In the evening they went to Seshaachalam. Srinivaasan showed him the anthill and gave his specifications for building the temple.

"The temple must be built here. The garbba graha should be above this anthill. It should be surrounded by walls, Vaikuntha vaasal must be in between these two.

In the second praakaara I need the kitchen, the kalyaana mandapam, sayana gruham and a place for storing the incenses.

The third praakaaram should contain the ugraaNa rooms and aasthaana mandapams. The temple must have seven magnificent entrances. It must have two gopurams. One should be above the entrance to the temple and the other at the entrance of the praakaaras.

In addition we must have the bali peetam and the dhwaja sthambam. "Thondaimaan made a note of all these requirements carefully

#24 b. ரங்கதாஸன்


தோட்டத்தில் இருந்தது ஒரு கிணறு,
"தோண்டியவன் நீயே முற்பிறப்பில்!"

வைகாநஸன் ஒரு முனிவர் சோழநாட்டில்;
வைத்தார் தணியாத ஆசையை மனத்தில்.

வைகுந்தனைக் கிருஷ்ணணாகக் காணக்
கைக்கொண்டார் கடுமையான தவநெறி.

தவம் செய்தார் கனி, கிழங்குகள் உண்டு!
தவம் செய்தார் தழை, சருகுகள் உண்டு!

தவம் செய்தார் உணவே உண்ணாமல்;
தவம் செய்தார் காற்றை சுவாசித்து!

கண் எதிரே தோன்றினான் வைகுந்தன்
"கண்ணனாகக் காட்சி தர வேண்டும்" என,

"ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை ஆராதித்து வந்தால்
இனிதே நிறைவேறும் உம் விருப்பம்!"

கால் நடையாகச் சென்றார் சேஷாசலம்;
கண்டார் வழியில் பக்தன் ரங்கதாஸனை

உடன் நடந்தான் முனிவருடன் அவன்
"கேட்டான் ஏன் சேஷாசலத்துக்கு?"

"கிருஷ்ணாவதாரத்தில் செய்தான் லீலைகள்
கிருஷ்ணனைக் காணத் தவம் செய்தேன்.

சேஷாசலம் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனை ஆராதித்தால்
பேஷாக நிறைவேறும் என் கோரிக்கை"

முனிவரும் நடப்பது நல்லதாகிற்று
இனிக்கும் கண்ணனைத் தரிசிக்கலாமே!

"அனாதை என்னைப் பணியாளாக எற்பீர்.
அநேக சேவைகள் செய்து உதவுவேன்!"

சேஷாசலத்தைச் அடைத்தனர் இருவரும்
வாசஸ்தலம் ஸ்வாமி பூஷ்கரிணீ அருகே.

#24b. Ranga Daasan

Srinvaasan showed a well in the garden to ThoNdaimaan and said, "You are the one who dug this well in your previous birth"

Vaigaanasan was rushi living in the Chozha kingdom. His only desire was to get the dharshan of Sri Krishna. He observed a severe penance. He did penance eating only fruits and roots. Later on he switched over to the fresh leaves and then dry leaves. Then he stopped eating, breathing only air.

Vishnu appeared to him in person. The rushi requested for a dharshan of Sri Krishna. Vishnu told him, "Go to Seshaachalam and do aaraadhana to Srinivaasan. You will get the dharshan of Krishna"

The sage started walking towards Seshaachalam. On the way he met another devote of Vishnu called Ranaga Daasan. He too started walking with the sage.

Ranga Daasan wanted to know the purpose of his visiting Seshaachalam. The sage Vaigaanasan told him, "Vishnu performed many miracles as Krishna. My sincere desire is to get his dharshan. I was told to go to Seshaachalam and pray to Srinivaasan who will fulfil my desire."

Ranga Daasan thought to himself, 'It is good that I decided to walk with this sage. I too can have a dharshan of Krishna.' He requested the sage,"I have no one to call as mine. Please accept me as your servant. I shall serve to the best of my ability"

The sage agreed. They reached Seshaachalam, and lived near Swami PushkariNi.

#24c. நந்தவனம்

தினமும் ஆராதித்தனர் பகவானை - ரங்கன்
முனிவருக்குப் பணிவிடைகள் செய்தான்.

வனத்துக்குச் சென்று மலர் கொய்தவன் - நந்த
வனம் ஒன்று அமைக்க விரும்பினான்.

முனிவரிடம் விண்ணப்பித்தான் ரங்கன்;
கனிவுடன் பாராட்டி முனிவரும் உதவினார்.

உருவானது அழகிய நந்தவனம் அங்கே!
இருவாக்ஷி, சம்பங்கி, ஜாதி, முல்லை

மல்லிகை, அலரி, மந்தாரை என்று
மலர்கள் பூத்துக் குலுங்கின விரைவில்.

நறுமணம் நிறைத்தது நாற்றிசைகளை;
நிறங்கள் மயக்கின காண்பவர் கண்களை!

விடியலில் நீராடி மலர் கொய்து வருவான்;
செடிகளுக்கு நீரூற்ற வெட்டுவித்தான் கிணறு.

மலர் பறிக்கச் சென்ற ரங்கதாசன் ஒருநாள்,
மனத்தை மயக்கும் காட்சியைக் கண்டான்!

திவ்விய தேஜசுடன் சென்றான் கந்தர்வன்,
திவ்விய அழகு வாய்ந்த தன் மனைவியுடன்.

ஆகாய மார்க்கமாகச் சென்றவர் கண்டனர்
ஆதி வராஹமூர்த்தி ஆலயத்தை அங்கே.

ஸ்வாமி பூஷ்கரிணீயில் புனித நீராடி
ஸ்வாமி தரிசனம் செய்ய விரும்பினர்.

கந்தர்வனும், மனைவியும் நீராடுவது கண்டு
வந்த வேலையை மறந்து போனான் ரங்கன்.

சௌந்தரியத்தில் மனம் பறி போனதால்
செல்லவில்லை மலர் கொய்து ஆசிரமம்.

கரையேறி, ஆலயத்தில் தொழுது, கண்ணுக்கு
மறையும் வரை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான்!

#24c. Nanda vanam


The sage and Rangan took holy dip in the Swaami pushkariNi and worshiped God everyday. Rangan did all the services required by the sage. He would go to the forest and gather the flowers fit for the worship. Later on he decided to grow his own flower garden and use the fresh flowers blooming there.

His suggestion was accepted by the sage who also helped Rangan in planting the garden. Soon colorful flowers bloomed filling the whole area with their fragrance. Rangan would take bath early in the morning and gather the flowers for pooja. He soon got a well dug to facilitate the watering of the plants in the garden.

One morning when he went to the pushkariNi, he saw a Ghandharva and his wife travel in the sky. They were divine, beautiful beings. Rangan stood transfixed by their beauty and charm.

The Gandharvas saw the temple of Aadi Varaaha Moorthy and decided to worship the God before proceeding any further. They came down and bathed in the holy PushkariNi. Then they came out of the water, went to the temple, did pooja and went away from there.


Rangan stood mesmerized all the while and forgot that the sage would be waiting for the fresh flowers to complete his daily pooja.

By God's grace I just completed writing the first four skandaas of Devi Bhaagavatam yesterday.

It was taken up in Early August - just after my elder son and grand daughter went back to USA.

With the introductions the number of poems add up to an impressive 252. Now the hard task of

typing them in Tamil and translating them into English, to get them ready for blogging in 2014.

The new blog in WordPress may be launched on Makara Sankaraanthi day or even earlier.

Those poems will start appearing in this thread after Venkates Puranam gets completed in

January 2014.

Writing the next volume from Skandam 5 will be taken up tomorrow. New moon day works out very well for new ventures, at least for me! ray2:

#24 d. கந்தருவர்

வானில் பறந்து மறைந்தனர் கந்தருவர்;
வந்தது சுயநினைவு ரங்கதாஸனுக்கு.

'மலர் கொய்ய வந்தவன் அதைச் செய்யாமல்
மனதை அலைய விட்டுவிட்டேனே அந்தோ!

கெடுத்தேனே பூஜையை அநாவசியமாக;
காக்க வைத்தேனே முனிவரை இதுவரை!

உல்லாசமாக வேடிக்கை பார்த்து நின்று
உபாஸனையில் தடங்கல் செய்தேனே!'

பதறியது உடல் செய்த தவற்றை எண்ணி;
பறித்துக் கொண்டு ஓடினான் மலர்களை!

உக்கிர மூர்த்தியாக மாறி இருந்தார் முனிவர்;
சிக்கெனக் காலைப் பற்றிக் கொண்டான் ரங்கன்.

"பாதகம் செய்துவிட்டேன் மன்னியுங்கள்"
"தாமதம் ஏன் எனச் சொல்லு நீ முதலில்!"

"மாயைக்கு அடிமை ஆகிவிட்டேன் நான்!
மனதைத் தறிகெட்டு அலைய விட்டேன்!"

ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் தோன்றினார் அவர்கள் முன்பு;
சேவித்தான் ரங்கதாசன் விழுந்து விழுந்து.

"தவறு செய்தவன் தண்டனை அடைவான்;
தவறு தான் என் பூஜையத் தாமதம் செய்தது!

சுதன்மனின் இளைய மகனாகப் பிறந்து பல
சோதனைகளை அனுபவி அடுத்த பிறவியில்!"

"பாதங்களை அடைய விரும்பியவனுக்குச்
சோதனைகளை அனுபவிக்கும் சாபமா?" என,

"செய்த தவம் வீண் போகாது ஒருநாளும்;
செய்தாய் தாமதம் பகவத் பூஜையில் - அது

செய்யும் சற்றுத் தாமதம் விரத பூர்த்தியில்;
எய்துவாய் எண்ணிய பேற்றைத் தாமதமாக!

மன்னன் மகனாகப் பிறந்து ஆள்வாய்
தொண்டை நாட்டை உன் குடைக் கீழ்.

அழைத்து வருவேன் நானே உன்னை இங்கு;
ஆலயம் எழுப்பச் செய்வேன் இதே இடத்தில்!"

#24d. Gandharva

The two gandharva disappeared from Rangan's sight. He came to his senses. 'I cam here to gather the flowers for the pooja but wasted my time in admiring the gandhrva. I have delayed the pooja and made my master wait for these flowers for so long!' He felt sorry for his lapse and rushed back with the plucked flowers.

The sage was very angry with him. Rangan fell at his feet and begged for pardon for his delay. The sage demanded to know what had delayed him for so long.

Rangan cried and told him, "I got infatuated with the sight of the gandharva and forgot my duty." Srinivaasan appeared there. Rangan fell at his feet.

Srinivaasan said, "The person who commits a mistake must get punished for it. It is a crime to delay my pooja and aaraadhana. For this crime, you will be born as the younger son of king Sudanman and face many problems in life!"

Rangan broke down and cried,"I wanted to reach your lotus feet and you are cursing me with more births and more punishments!"

Srinivaasan consoled him now, "Your vratham and penance never will go in waste. You delayed the pooja. So the completion of your vratham will get delayed too.

You will get what you wished for, but a little later. You will be born as the son of king Sudanman and rule over ThoNdai Naadu. I myself will bring you here and make you build me a temple."

#25 a. ஆனந்த நிலயம்

"ரங்க தாஸனாக இருந்தவனும் நீயே!
இங்கு கிணறு வெட்டுவித்தவனும் நீயே!

சாபம் காரணமாக நின்றுவிட்ட பணியைத்
தாபம் தீரத் தொடருவாய் இப் பிறவியில்!"

தொண்டைமான் தொடங்கினான் ஆலயப் பணியை;
கொண்டு வந்து குவித்தான் கற்களைப் பாறைகளை!

வண்டி வண்டியாக வந்தன மரங்கள்,
சுண்ணம்பு, பிற தேவையான பொருட்கள்.

பாறைகளைச் செதுக்கினார் சிற்பிகள் தொடர்ந்து;
யாரும் ஊர் திரும்பவில்லை பணி முடியும் வரை!

சிற்பிகள் உழைத்தனர் உற்சாகத்துடன்
புற்று இருந்த இடத்தில் கர்ப்ப கிரகம்!

வைகுந்த வாசல் அமைந்தது அதன் வாயிலில்
எழுந்தது முதல் பிராகாரத்தைச் சுற்றி மதில்!

பள்ளியறை, மடைப்பள்ளி, திரவிய சாலை;
கல்யாண மண்டபம், உக்கிராண அறைகள்.

பலிபீடம், துவஜஸ்தம்பம், கோரியாவாறு;
ஆஸ்தான மண்டபங்கள், கோரியாவாறு;

உயர்ந்த கோபுரம் விளங்கியது வாயிலில்;
உச்சி வரையில் உயர்ந்த வேலைப்பாடுகள்.

கண் கவர் தூண்கள்; பாறைகளால் தளம்;
கண் கவர் விமானம் கர்ப்பகிரகத்தின் மேல்.

சந்தித்துக் கூறினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனிடம் சென்று,
"சந்தோஷத்துடன் ஏற்று அருள வேண்டும்!"

#25a. Ananda Nilayam

Srinvaasan told ThoNdaimaan, "You were Rangadaasan in your previous birth. This is the well you got dug for watering the garden. You work got cut short due to the curse. Now you may complete the unfinished work."

ThoNdaimaan started the temple construction work. He brought everything needed for the work - rocks, stones, wood and several other things. The sculptors worked round the clock and stayed on there till the entire work was completed.

The garbba Gruham was directly above the anthill. Vaikuntha vaasal , the sayana gruham, kitchen, storage room for the incense, kalayana mandapam, aasthaana mandapam, bali peetam, dhwaja sthambam were all built as specified by Srinivaasan.

The gopuram was at the entrance had intricate work right up to its top. The pillars had eye capturing sculpture and the floor was laid with solid rocks.

When the work was completed, ThoNdaimaan went to meet Srinivaasan in Agasthya's aashram and told him,"The Ananda Nilayam is ready as desired by you. Kindly accept it and grace me"

#25 b. சிலாரூபம்

நெருங்கியது சுபதினம் ஆலயம் புகுவதற்கு;
ததும்பியது குதூகலம் அகத்தியர் ஆசிரமத்தில்.

வந்து குவிந்தனர் இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் அங்கே;
சொந்தமாக ஏற்பாடுகளைக் கவனித்தார் பிரமன்.

வந்து சேர்ந்தனர் வசுதானனும், தொண்டைமானும்;
வந்து சேர்ந்தனர் அனைவரும் ஆனந்த நிலயம்.

ரதத்தில் வந்தனர் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனும் பத்மாவதியும்;
ரதத்தை ஓட்டினார் சுயமாக பிரம்மதேவன்.

கண்ணைப் பறித்தன வண்ணக் கோலங்கள்
மண்ணைத் தெளித்திருந்தனர் பன்னீரால்.

தோரணங்கள் தொங்கின பார்த்த இடம் எல்லாம்!
பூரணத் திருப்தி ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் உள்ளத்தில் நிலவ;

ஆனந்தம் பொங்கியது பத்மாவதி மனதில்
ஆனந்த நிலயம் ஆனது விமானத்தின் பெயர்.

ஹோமகுண்டத்தை வளர்த்தான் பிரமன்;
வேத காரியங்களை முடித்தான் பிரமன்.

விமானத்தின் கீழ் நின்றான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்-
விரும்பி அமர்த்தினான் தேவியை மார்பில்

வலது கரம் காட்டியது ஒரு திருவடியை;
இடது கரம் மடங்கியது முழங்கால் அருகில்!

"ஆகும் பாதம் வைகுந்தமாக பக்தருக்கு.
ஆகும் சம்சாரம் முழங்கால் அளவு நீராக"

பிரமன் பணிந்து வணங்கி வேண்டினான்,
"பிரபு தங்க வேண்டும் இங்கு கலியுகத்தில்!"

"பூலோக வைகுந்தம் ஆகவேண்டும் இது - நான்
சிலா ரூபத்தில் இருப்பேன் ஆனந்த நிலயத்தில்!"

தூண்டா விளக்குகளை ஏற்றினான் பிரமன்!
ஆண்டாண்டு காலமாகப் பிரகாசிக்கின்றன.

சுபதினம் ஆனது முதல் பிரம்மோத்சவமாக;
சிலா உருவெடுத்து நிற்கின்றான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!

#25 b. Silaa roopam

The auspicious day for occupying the temple was fast approaching. There was joy and mirth in the ashram of sage Agasthya. All the Deva had assembled there. Brahma personally took care of all the arrangements there.

King Vasudaanan and King ThoNdaimaan arrived. Everyone reached the temple. Srinivaasan and Padmaavati came on a chariot driven by Brahma.

The whole place was decorated with colorful hanging thoraNs and colorful eye capturing designs on the ground. The ground was sprinkled with rosewater and everybody was excited to see the beautifully constructed temple.

Sreenivaasan was very happy to see the temple. Padmaavati was bubbling with joy and the temple vimaanam was aptly named as Aanandha Nilayam.

Brahma ignited the homa kundam and did all the Vedic rituals. Srinivaasan stood on the spot under the vimaanam. He lifted up Padmaavati and kept her on his chest.

His right hand pointed to his right foot and conveyed the message, "My feet will be the vaikuntham for all my bhaktaas"

His left hand was folded at his left knee. It symbolized, "The deep sea of samsaara will become as shallow as a knee deep pool for those who surrender to me"

Brahma requested him to stay on there during Kaliyuga. Srinivaasan replied, "This should become the bhoo loka vaikuntam in this Kaliyuga. I will stay here in the form of a statue."

Brahma lighted the ThooNdaa viLakku which is said to be burning even today. The auspicious day became the first Brahmothsavam day.
