#15a. அன்னையர் சந்திப்பு
விடியலுக்குக் காத்திருந்தாள் தரணி தேவி.
விடிந்தவுடன் விடியும் சில பிரச்சனைகள்.
வந்தனர் அந்தணர் சிவன் ஆலயத்திலிருந்து;
தந்தனர் அபிஷேகத் தீர்த்தப் பிரசாதங்கள்.
அழகிய கோலமிட் ட மணையில் அமர்த்தி,
அழகி பத்மாவதிக்குச் செய்தனர் அபிஷேகம்.
முழங்கின எங்கும் மங்கல வாத்தியங்கள்
வழங்கினர் பரிசுகள் அங்கு வந்தவர்களுக்கு.
"சேஷாச்சலத்தில் இருந்து வந்துள்ள மாது
பேச விரும்புகிறார் அரசி தரணி தேவியிடம்"
வந்தவர், திருமணம் பேச வந்தவர் தான் என்று
அந்த மாதை அழைத்து வந்தனர் அரசியிடம்.
"சேஷாச்சலம் என் ஊர், வகுளமாலிகை என் பேர்;
பேச வேண்டும் அரசகுமாரியைப் பற்றி " என்றார்.
"காத்ருக்கிறேன் உங்களிடம் பேசுவதற்கு - எதிர்
பார்த்திருந்தேன் உங்கள் இனிய வருகைக்கு!
குறத்தி வந்தாள் அரண்மனைக்கு நேற்றுமாலை;
குறி சொன்னாள் சேஷாத்ரி வாசனைக் குறித்து.
உத்தியானவனத்தில் என் பெண்ணைக் கண்டானாம்;
பத்மாவதியிடம் மையல் கொண்டானாம்!" என்றாள்.
"குறத்தி சொல்லியது முற்றிலும் உண்மையே,
குமாரத்தியுடன் மணம் பேசவே வந்துள்ளேன்.
அனுப்பியவன் மகன் சேஷாச்சலம் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்;
அனுமதி வேண்டும் இத் திருமணம் நடப்பதற்கு!"
பிள்ளையைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களைக் கேட்டு
கொள்ளை மகிழ்ச்சி கொண்டாள் தாரணி தேவி.
அரண்மனையில் தங்கவைத்தாள் அந்த மாதை.
அரசனிடம் விரைந்தாள் செய்தி சொல்வதற்கு.
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

Queen DharaNi Devi was eagerly awaiting the dawn of the next day. Many problems would get resolved on that day. The learned pundits brought and gave the abishekha prasaatham and theertham to the queen.
Padmaavati was made to sit on a decorated wooden plank and the holy theertham was poured on her. Auspicious musical instruments were played and gifts were distributed to everyone present there.
A messenger came and told the queen, "A lady has come from Seshaachalam and she wishes to speak to the queen" The queen ordered the lady to be led to her with great respect and due honor.
The elderly and respectable lady introduced herself to the queen."I come form Seshaachalam and my name is VaguLa Maalikai. I want to talk about the wedding on my son Srinivaasan with your daughter Padmaavati."
The queen was delighted that the prophesy of the fortune teller was coming true! She said to the lady, "I too am eager to talk to you about it. In fact I have been eagerly waiting for your arrival.
We had been visited by a young fortune teller yesterday. She spoke about Seshaadri vaasan. She said that he saw the princess in the garden and fell in love with her at the very first sight."
"Yes my lady! Whatever the fortune teller told is true. My son is head over heels in love with your daughter. I request you and the king to agree to this alliance and conduct their marriage"
The queen asked about the groom and became very happy with whatever VaguLa Maalikai told her. She made the lady stay comfortably in the palace and went to convey the happy news to the king Aakaasa Raajan.

"உத்தமமானதே இந்த சம்பந்தம் என் ராணி!
பத்மாவதி யாரென்பதை மறந்து விடாதே நீ!
மஹா லக்ஷ்மியின் அம்சமே நம் பத்மாவதி;.
மஹா விஷ்ணுவை மனத்தால் வரித்தவள்.
சம்மதம் பெறுவோம் நமது குலகுருவிடம்;
சம்மதம் தருவோம் பின் அந்த மாதரசியிடம்."
தொண்டைமானை அழைத்தான் ஆகாசராஜன்,
விண்டான் நடந்துள்ள நிகழ்ச்சிகளை எல்லாம்.
"கேட்போம் குலகுருவிடம் அவரது அபிப்ராயம்
கேட்போம் நலம் விரும்பும் பிரதானிகளிடமும்.".
குலகுருவுக்குக் குதூகலம் கொப்பளித்தது!
"குமாரத்தியை மணம் செய் ஸ்ரீநிவாசனுக்கு!
வம்சம் அடைந்துவிடும் நற்கதியினை;
அம்சம் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவின்.
வைகுந்தவாசனை அடைவதற்கு மருமகனாக,
வெகுபுண்ணியம் செய்தாய் முற்பிறவியில்!
நிலத்தில் கிடைத்தவள் நிலமகளே அல்லவா?
நிலமகள் மணாளன் அலைகடல் துயில்பவன்!"
பிரதானிகள் ஏற்றனர் இதனை மனமார.
பிரபுக்களும் ஏற்றனர் இதனை மனமார.
ஆடிப் பாடத் தொடங்கினாள் பத்மாவதி!
ஆனந்த வெள்ளத்தில் வகுள மாலிகை.
நிலவியது மகிழ்ச்சி அந்த அரண்மனையில்,
நிலவியது அமைதி பெற்றோரின் மனத்தில்.
பொன்னும் மணியும் அள்ளித் தந்தாள் அரசி.
"பின்னர் வரும் திருமணவோலை!" என்றாள்.
ஆசிகள் தந்தாள் பத்மாவதியை முத்தமிட்டு;
ஆவலுடன் காத்திருப்பான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் என;
அவசரமாகத் திரும்பினாள் வகுள மாலிகை;
அரசனும், அரசியும் வந்து வழியனுப்பினர்.

The king Aakaasa Raajan was very pleased to hear of these developments . He told his queen, "Remember my dear, our Padmaavati is the amsam of Mahaa Lakshmi and she had decided to marry none other than Mahaa Vishnu? We will consult our kulaguru sage Sugar and then give our consent for this alliance. "
He sent for his younger brother ThoNdaimaan and told him of the recent events. Kulaguru was overwhelmed with happiness to hear of the good news. He told the king Aakaasa Raajan,
"Get you princess wedded to Srinivaasan. He is the asmam of Mahaa Vishnu. You must have done a lot of good deeds in your past janma to get Sree Vishnu as your dear son in law.
The child who was found while ploughing the earth is Lakshmi Devi herself. Her consort can not be anyone other than Vishnu. " The courtiers and prabhus also consented for this alliance.
Padmaavati began to sing and dance as was her custom before she got bitten by the love bug. VaguLa Maalika was very happy that her mission had been successful. There was happiness in the palace and peace in the minds of the king and the queen.
DharaNi Devi presented VaguLa Maalikaa with gold and gemstones. She promised to send the marriage invite later on. VaguLa Maalikaa embraced, kissed and blessed Padmaavati.
She knew that Srinivaasan would be waiting for her return very anxiously. She took leave of the king and the queen and they came with her to see her off.

Sage Sugar consulted an almanac and selected an auspicious day for the wedding. He wrote the wedding invitation on a palm leaf smeared with the auspicious turmeric paste.
The king and the Queen placed it inside a small sandal wood box and handed it over to sage Sugar, to be taken and handed over to VaguLa Maalikai and Srinivaasan. The sage left in his palanquin to Seshaachalam.
Srinivaasan was happy to see VaguLa Maalikai come back with a beaming face. He ran to receive her and asked her one hundred questions.
She related the events of the previous day to him. Her attending the Siva aaraadhanaa in the ashram of sage Agasthya; her meeting with the queen; getting the consent of the king, kulaguru and the courtiers; the fortune teller who had helped her mission; the kindness of the king and queen who accompanied her to some distance to see her off etc. Srinivaasan listened to all these with a great interest.

பல்லக்குத் தூக்கிகளின் அரவம் கேட்டது;
'பல்லக்கில் வருவது யாராக இருக்கும்?'
நெருங்கி அருகில் வந்து நின்றது பல்லக்கு;
இறங்கினார் சுகமுனிவர் பல்லக்கிலிருந்து.
மேனி சிலிர்க்கத் தொழுது வணங்கியபின்,
ஸ்ரீனிவாசனிடம் சமர்ப்பித்தார் பேழையை.
"பத்மாவதியின் மணம் பற்றிப் பேச வேண்டும்."
உத்தம முனிவரை வரவேற்றான் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.
பாத பூஜை செய்தான் முனிவருக்கு - பின்னர்
ஆதரவுடன் அழைத்துச் சென்றான் புற்றுக்கு.
மண நாள் பூரண சம்மதமே மணமகனுக்கு!
மன மகிழ்வோடு திரும்பினார் சுகர் மறுநாள்.
"பெரிய இடத்தில் நிச்சயித்துள்ளோம் பெண்ணை.
சரியான அந்தஸ்துடன் செல்ல வேண்டும் அங்கு!"
ஆதிசேஷனையும், பிரமனையும் நினைத்ததும்
ஆதிசேஷனும், பிரமனும் வந்து தோன்றினார்கள்.
"சித்திரை சுத்தத் திரயோதசியில் என் திருமணம்;
உத்தம மணப்பெண் இளவரசி பத்மாவதி தேவி.
முப்பத்து முக்கோடி தேவர்கள், முனிவர்கள்
தப்பாமல் வரவேண்டும் என் திருமணம் காண.
துரிதமாகச் செயல் படவேண்டும் நீங்கள்,
விரைந்து மணநாள் நெருங்கி வருவதால்!"
"கூட்டம் சேர்ப்பது எங்கள் வேலை - ஆனால்
வாட்டம் அடைகிறோம் பணம் இல்லாததால்!
லக்ஷ்மி இல்லாத இடத்தைச் செல்வம் - அ
லட்சியம் செய்வது நாம் அறிந்தது தானே!"

#17a. "We need money!"
The noise of a palanquin coming nearer was heard clearly. Srinivaasan and VaguLa Maalika wondered who was arriving then at that time!
The palanquin stopped near them. Sage Sugar got out of it. He paid his respects to Srinivaasan and gave the sandal wood casket containing the wedding invite. "I have to talk to you regarding your wedding with princess Padmavati."
Srinivaasan did paadapooja for the sage and lead him to his residence in the anthill. The wedding date was agreeable to Srinivaasan and VaguLa Maalikai. Sage Sugar returned to his place the next day. VaguLa Maalika told Srinivaasan, "We have chosen a princess for your bride. We must go to the wedding in a befitting manner."
Srinivaasan thought of Brahma and Aadhi seshan and they appeared before him immediately. "My wedding with princess Padmaavati has been fixed to take place on Suddha thrayodasi day, in the month of Chiththirai. All the Deva and rushis must attend the wedding without fail. You must speed up the arrangements as the wedding day is approaching very fast."
Adhiseshan and Brahma replied,"We can take care of the arrangements but we need money for the wedding expenses! As we all know, there will be no wealth in a place which Lakshmi Devi has deserted."

Brahma spoke of behalf of Srinivaasan, "We need a loan of 1,14, 00, 000 gold coins. We agree to pay an annual interest of 1,00,000 gold coins. We will return the loan amount at the end of the Kali Yuga."
Kuberan agreed to these terms. Brahma himself wrote the loan document and Srinivaasan signed in it. Brhama and two trees signed as witnesses.

"ஆமாம் ஸ்வாமி! நினைவுள்ளது நன்கு எனக்கு!
வேதவதியை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளச் சொன்னேன்;
வேளை வந்ததும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்வேன் என்றீர்!"
"வேளை வந்து விட்டது தேவி இப்போது!
வேதவதியே ஆவாள் இளவரசி பத்மாவதி!
சித்திரை சுத்தத் திரயோதசியில் திருமணம்;
உத்தேசித்தேன் உன்னை இங்கு வரவழைக்க."

The bride groom was to be given a ceremonial bath. Everyone wanted to get the first chance and the first importance. Srinivaasan reminded them that it was the right of his consort Lakshmi Devi.
"But Lakshmi Devi has left you. Will she come now for the wedding?' people raised this doubt. Srinivaasan told them,
"I know how to make Lakshmi come here forgetting her difference of opinion. Just send the Sun god to tell her that I am not doing well. She will rush here to see me!"
The Sun was sent to Karaveera Puram and conveyed this message. "Soon after you left Vaikuntham, Vishnumoorthy also left it. Now he is living in Seshaachalam and he is not doing very well."
Lakshmi rushed to meet him. Srinivaasan took the support of Barhma and Siva to walk - as if he were very sick and weak. When Lakshmi Devi arrived he asked her, "Do you remember the boon I gave you in Rama avatar?"

People were eager and excited to go to NaaraayaNa Puram from the early morning. They decorated themselves and helped one another to get dressed up. The new silk clothes were colorful and the people very happy.
Lakshmi Devi started to do the abhishekham to Srinivaasan. After the auspicious bath, Srinivaasan wore new silk peetha ambaram.
VaguLa Malikaa applied the beauty spot to protect him from the evil eyes. Parvathy Devi adorned him with gem studded gold ornaments. The Deva made him wear several colorful and fragrant garlands.
The food stuffs were heaped up. Agni Devan was in charge of the cooking. He had no vessels and so cooked directly in the theerthams.
The sages selected a level ground. The ladies adorned it with colorful designs drawn on the floor. Srinivaasan sat on a wooden plank and did the sankalpam. He planted a branch of the Samee vruksham in the Swami PushkariNi theertham.
The lunch was ready. It was offered to the Narasimha moorthi and then served to all the guests.
Sanadal paste, flowers and thaamboolam were offered to the guests. Then everybody got on to their vaahanamas which were waiting for them.
Srinivaasan sat on the grudan, Siva on his Nandhi and Brahma on his swan. The others got on to the horses, elephants and chariots. They all went to NaarayaNa Puram for the Srinivaasa kalyaanam.

"மணக் கோலத்தில் உம்மைக் காண்பதற்கு
மாதவம் செய்திருப்பேன் முற் பிறவியில்.
இளைப்பாறி விட்டுச் செல்ல வேண்டும்;
களைப்பு மாறும் வரை இங்கு தங்கி விட்டு.
உபசரித்துப் பெற வேண்டும் ஆனந்தம்!
உபசார வார்த்தையல்ல உண்மையே!"
"இத்தனை பேர்களை உபசரிப்பதா எனச்
சிந்தனை செய்கின்றேன் நான் முனிவரே!"

நாராயணபுரத்தை நோக்கி மறுபடியும்.

#18b. The welcome by Sage Sugar
The wedding party reached Padma Theertham where sage Sugar's ashram was situated. He was waiting for the arrival of the wedding party with a Poorna kumbham. The wedding party stopped there for a short break.
The sage did paada pooja for Srinivaasan and circumambulated him. He spoke with intense bhakti and happiness,"I must have done a lot of puNya in my previous birth to be able to see you as a groom set out to get married. Please relax here for some time and then proceed to NaaraanyaNa Puram. I want to play the host to you and get that happiness also."
Srinivaasan hesitated thinking of the number of persons accompanying him to the wedding. But the sage told him,
"You have all the fourteen world concealed in your body. If you eat, then all the fourteen world will feel satisfied!"
So Srinivaasan went with the sage inside his ashram. He ate some fruits and drank some milk. the Sage was overwhelmed with happiness and the guests were feeling full - as if they had eaten the fruits and drunk the milk.
The wedding party left towards NaaraayaNa Puram once again with joy.

சொல்லக் கேட்ட ஆகாச ராஜனும், தரணி தேவியும்.
'எதிர் கொண்டழைக்க வேண்டும் நாமே சென்று
இதர பிரதானிகள் அமைச்சர்களுடன் இன்று!"
பட்டத்து யானை நின்றது தயாராக - ரத்தினப்
பட்டத்தை அணிந்திருந்தது பெரிய நெற்றியில்.
தந்த நுனிகளில் துலங்கின தங்கக் குமிழிகள்.
தந்தனர் யானையிடம் ரோஜாமலர் மாலையை.
ஆகாசராஜன், தரணி தேவி அமர்ந்தனர் - யானை
அம்பாரியில் மனப் பெண் பத்மாவதியுடன்.
இசைக் குழுவினர் நடந்தனர் யானை முன்னால்;
இளம் பெண்கள் தொடர்ந்தனர் யானை பின்னால்.
மலர்கள், சந்தனம், பன்னீர் இவை சொரிந்து
மலர்ந்த முகத்தோடு மணமகனை வரவேற்க;
ஒலித்தது மணமகன் குழுவின் ஆரவாரம்!
தலை நிமிரவில்லை மணமகள் நாணத்தால்!
பூரண கும்பத்துடன் வரவேற்றான் மன்னன்;
நாரணன் கோஷ்டியைத் திருமணத்துக்கு.

When the group reached the city limits they rejoiced. The king and the queen also rejoiced at their safe arrival. They decided to welcome the wedding party in person. They rode on the royal elephant which was decorated in a befitting manner with jewels and silk.
Padmaavati also sat with her parents on the elephant. The musicians walked in front of the elephant and the young girls carrying the auspicious articles walked behind them.
The groom and his party were welcomed with flowers, sandal paste and rose water. There was a huge cry announcing the victory "Jaya vijayee bhava!" Padmaavati was overcome with shyness. The king welcomed the group with poorna kumbham. The royal elephant went round Srinivaasan and garlanded him with the rose flowers.

நகரம் ஜொலித்தது ஜகஜ் ஜோதியாக!
பகலா? இரவா? பேதம் தெரியவில்லை.
ஆகாரம் வந்தது தங்கியிருந்த இடத்துக்கு
ஆகாச ராஜன் உயர்வாக உபசரித்தான்.
மற்றவர் உண்டனர் அரண்மனை முற்றத்தில்
குற்றம் சொல்லமுடியாத இனிய உபசரிப்பு..
இரவில் நடந்தது அப்சரசுகளின் நாட்டியம்;
இதுவரை கண்டதில்லை மனிதர் எவருமே
உறங்கவில்லை எவருமே அன்று இரவு;
உற்சாகமாகக் காத்திருந்தனர் விடியலுக்கு.

Srinivaasan got down from his Garudan. The gem studded ornaments shone on his dark colored skin. Padmaavati garlanded him and he garlanded her. When he took hold of her hand and got onto the chariot , there was a huge joyous shout.
The city was transformed to resemble Vaikuntham with beautiful structures and pandals. The streets were decorated with colorful floral designs and poorna kumbhams were offered everywhere. Young women did haarathi all along the way.
Aakaas Raajan stood in readiness with a tray full of flowers and Dharani Devi stood with a vessel of water. Prince Vasudaana - Padmaavati's younger brother stood with a bowl of sandal paste.
The king did paada pooja for Srinivaasan and took him to his palace. Tents were erected for the comfortable stay of the guests.
The city shone so brilliantly that no one was sure whether it was day or night!
Food was brought to the tents. The others ate in the palace courtyard. No one could in point any defect in the hospitality. In the night the apsaras danced. No human being had witnessed it earlier. No one slept that night. They were eagerly waiting for the dawn of the next day.

ஆணழகன் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் ஆனார் மணமகனாக!
வாசனைத் திரவிய நீரில் குளிக்க வைத்தபின்
வாரி ஜடை போட்டனர் பத்மாவதி தேவிக்கு.

In the early morning next day everyone had a refreshing bath and wore new clothes. The king has sent a yellow silk with heavy brocade work for the groom. Srinivaasan wore it after his ceremonial bath. Lakshmi and Parvati adorned him with ornaments.
Padmaavati was made to bathe in the scented water and decorate as a bride. DharaNi Devi made her wear every ornament she had worn on her wedding day.
The auspicious muhoortham was nearing. Everyone walked towards the wedding mandapam. Indra held the white silk umbrella and Srinivaasan walked under its shade.
ThoNdaimaan gave a garland to Padmaavati and she garlanded Srinivaasan. Siva gave a garland which Srinivaasan put around Padmaavati's neck.
Lakshmi and Saraswati sang the oonjal songs. Padmaavati and Srinivaasan were gently swaying on the swing. Elderly ladies removed the druhshti and they all went to the mandapam.
Sage Vasishta conducted the wedding ceremony and at the appointed hour Srinivaasan tied the maangalyam to Padmaavati. Both the mothers embraced each other and the king was overwhelmed with joy.
The wedding gifts were brought to the tent. All the guests were presented with many gifts.

நடந்தது திருமணம் நான்கு நாட்களுக்கு;.
முடிந்ததும் திரும்பவேண்டும் தம் இல்லம்.
விடை பெற்றனர் மணமக்கள் எல்லோரிடமும்;
மடை திறந்து பாய்ந்தது அரசியின் கண்ணீர்.
வகுள மாலிகை தேற்றினாள் தாரணி தேவியை,
"வெகு தூரம் செல்லப் போவதில்லையே" என்று
"எப்படியும் கணவன் வீடு செல்ல வேண்டியவள்!
எப்போது வேண்டுமானாலும் காண முடியுமே!"
கணவன் வீட்டில் நடந்துகொள்ள வேண்டிய
கண்ணியத்தை எடுத்துரைத்தாள் அன்னை.
ஆகாச ராஜன் தன் மனம் திறந்து பேசினான்
பூலோக நாதன் மருமகன் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனிடம்.
"செல்லமாக வளர்ந்துவிட்டாள் பத்மாவதி
சொல்ல முடியாது பொறுப்பு உள்ளதாக.
தெரியாமல் அவள் தவறு செய்துவிட்டால்
பெரிய மனதுடன் மன்னிக்க வேண்டும் .
அம்மையாரிடம் நான் சொன்னதும் இதுவே
தம்பதிகள் இனிதே வாழவேண்டும்!" என்றான்
வரிசைகள் வந்து இறங்கின வரிசையாக.
"வரம் தருவேன் கேளுங்கள்" என்றான்
"ஒன்று தான் வரம் வேண்டும் எமக்கு;
என்றுமே உம்மை மறவாது இருப்பது.
"மறக்கவே மாட்டீர்கள் என்னை எவருமே!
சிறப்பாகக் குடி இருப்பேன் உம் சிந்தையில்!"
சேஷாசலம் சென்றனர் மணமகன் குழுவினர்
ஆகாச ராஜனும், தரணியும் உடன் சென்றனர்.

பெரிய மனதுடன் மன்னிக்க வேண்டும் .
அம்மையாரிடம் நான் சொன்னதும் இதுவே
தம்பதிகள் இனிதே வாழவேண்டும்!" என்றான்
வரிசைகள் வந்து இறங்கின வரிசையாக.
"வரம் தருவேன் கேளுங்கள்" என்றான்
"ஒன்று தான் வரம் வேண்டும் எமக்கு;
என்றுமே உம்மை மறவாது இருப்பது.
"மறக்கவே மாட்டீர்கள் என்னை எவருமே!
சிறப்பாகக் குடி இருப்பேன் உம் சிந்தையில்!"
சேஷாசலம் சென்றனர் மணமகன் குழுவினர்
