11b. "வாசுதேவன் நானே!"

அன்னிய ஆடவனைக் கண்ட தும் தோழியர்
சொன்னார்கள், "திரும்பிச் செல்வோம்!" என.

"தெரிந்து கொண்டு வாருங்கள் அவன் யார் என!"
"யார் நீங்கள்? இங்கு என்ன வேலை? கூறுவீர்!"

நடந்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன் பத்மாவதியை நோக்கி
தடுக்க முடியவில்லை தோழிப் பெண்களால்!

"ஆடவருக்கு நுழைய அனுமதி இல்லையா?
அறியாமல் வந்து நுழைந்துவிட்டேன் இங்கு!

கண்டேன் வனத்தில் மத யானை ஒன்றை!
கண்டதும் யானை ஓடலானது வேகமாக!

காட்டுக்குள் செல்லவில்லை அந்த யானை;
நாட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்தது; நந்தவனம் வந்தது !

கன்னியரைத் துன்புறுத்துமோ என்று அஞ்சி
கணை ஒன்றை எய்து விரட்டினேன் அதை.

பூரணச் சந்திரன் போன்ற முகம் கொண்ட
ஆரணங்குடன் பேச விரும்பி வந்தேன்."

"யானை திரிந்தால் தெரிந்திருக்கும் எமக்கும்!
யார் நீர்? எதற்கு வந்துள்ளீர்? உண்மை கூறும்."

"வசிப்பது சேஷாச்சலம்; சிந்து புத்திரர் குலம்;
வசுதேவர் தந்தையார்; தேவகி தாயார் ஆவார்.

பஞ்ச பாண்டவர்களுக்கு ஆப்த நண்பன் நான்;
கொஞ்சப் பெயர்களா நான் சொல்லுவதற்கு?"

"பித்தம் தலைக்கு ஏறி விட்டது உமக்கு!
வைத்தியரைப் போய்ப் பாரும் உடனே!

உத்தியான வனத்தில் பெண்களிடம் வந்து
எத்தன் வேடமா போடுகின்றீர்கள் நீங்கள்?

பைத்தியக்காரன்! யசோதை கிருஷ்ணனாம்!
வைத்தியம் செய்து கொள்ளும் விரைவாக.

ஜோலியைப் பார்த்துக் கொண்டு செல்வீர்!"
கேலி பேசினார் பத்மாவதியின் தோழியர்.

#11b. "I am Vaasudevan!"

When the girls saw a strange young man in their garden, they insisted that they should go back to the palace immediately. But Padmaavati told her friends,"Go and find out all about that young man!"

Her friends approached Srinivaasan and asked him, "Who are you? What brings you here now?" He did not reply to those girls but kept walking nearer to Padmaavati. No one could stop his progress.

"I did not know that men are forbidden from entering this garden. I entered since I did not know that rule. I saw a mad elephant in the forest. It started running towards this city instead of running into the forest. It then entered this garden.

I was afraid that it might harm you the young girls here and shot an arrow on it. It ran away leaving me here. Now I wish to talk to the pretty girl who has a face resembling the silvery full moon !" Srinivaasan walked nearer to Padmaavati.

"If there were really a mad elephant on rampage, we would have known it already. Tell us the truth. Who are you and why are you here?" Padmaavati's friends would not spare the young man so easily!

Srinivaasan answered earnestly." I live in Seshaachalam. I belong to the Sindu Puthra kulam. My father is Vasudevar and my mother is Devaki. I am a close friend of the Paandavaas. I have so many names that I do not know which one to tell you !"

"You are raving mad sir! Go and get treated by a qualified physician soon. You enter the private garden of the princess and pretend to be innocent. A mad prince indeed! The son of Vasudeva and Devaki! Go and mind your own business now. But don't forget go and get treated first. "

The girls made fun of Srinivaasan.

#11c. சினம் பெருகியது

"அரசகுமாரி தங்களைப் பற்றிய விவரங்கள்
அனைத்தும் அறிய வேண்டும் நான் இப்போது."

"தாராளமாகத் தெரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள் ஐயா!
நாராயணபுர மன்னன் ஆகாசராஜனின் மகள்.

பத்மாவதி என்பெயர், தாரணி தேவி என் தாய்;
அத்திரி கோத்திரம், நாங்கள் சந்திர வம்சம்.

உத்தியான வனம் உண்டானது எனக்காக.
இத்தனை விவரங்கள் போதுமா உமக்கு?"

"என்ன பொருத்தம் நமக்குள் இந்தப் பொருத்தம்!
என்னை மணந்து கொள்ள உனக்கு விருப்பமா?"

கோபம் வந்து விட்டது இளவரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!
கோபம் கொண்டனர் பத்மாவதியின் தோழியரும்.

"அத்து மீறிப் பேசவேண்டாம் பித்துப் பிடித்த ஐயா!
பத்திரம் இவள் அரசகுமாரி, நினைவிருக்கட்டும்!"

"கன்னி பெண்ணை நான் மணக்க விரும்புவதில்
என்ன தவறு எனத் தெரியவில்லையே!" என்றான்.

பல்லைக் கடித்தாள், கண்களை உருட்டினாள்,
தொல்லை தரும் மனிதனுடன் என்ன பேச்சு?

வைகுந்தவாசனை வரித்த என்னை ஒரு
வழிப் போக்கன் மணக்க விரும்புவதா?

சினம் தலைக்கு ஏறியது பத்மாவதிக்கு
மனம் அவனைத் தண்டிக்க விரும்பியது.

"அனுமதி இல்லாத இந்த இடத்துக்கு வந்து
அத்து மீறி நுழைந்தது உம் முதல் தவறு!

தனித்து இருக்கும் இளம் பெண்களிடம்
தவறாகப் பேசுவது இரண்டாவது தவறு.

கன்னிப் பெண் இவள் என்று அறிந்திருந்தும்
கண்ணியம் இன்றிப் பேசுவது மூன்றாவது.

சுய உணர்வு இல்லை போலும் உமக்கு!
மயக்கத்தில் பேசுகின்றீர் போலும் நீர்!

தயவு செய்து சென்று விடுங்கள் உடனே!
பயம் இல்லையா அரசனின் கோபத்துக்கு? "

விடாக் கண்டன் கொடாக் கண்டன் கதையானது!
இடத்தைக் காலி செய்ய மறுத்தான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!

#11c. Padmaavati's Anger

Srinivaasan spoke to Padmaavati, " I wish to know everything about you now, my dear princess!" Padmaavati replied, "Why not sir? I am the daughter of Aakaasa Raajan, the king of Naaraayana puram. My name is Padmaavati.

My mother is DharaNi Devi. We belong to Atri gothram and Chandra vamsam. This garden is created for my use. Are these details sufficient or do you need more?'

Srinivaasan was delighted by the details furnished by the princess Padmaavati. "We are made for each other my dear princess. Will you marry me?" he seemed to be the very personification of daredevilry!

Padmavaati now lost her temper. So too her dear friends. They warned Srinivaasan. "Stay within safe limits young man! She is a princess! Remember this fact always"

Now Srinivaasan wondered aloud, "What is wrong in wishing to marry a beautiful unmarried princess?' Padmaavati bit her lips, rolled her eyes and did not want to talk to that irritating young man anymore.

She had decided to marry Vishnu and some nitwit wayfarer was proposing to her so daringly. She wished to punish him severely.

She spoke to him with swelling anger, "You have come inside my garden which no men are allowed to enter. This is your first crime. You do not know how to talk to young women. This is your second crime. Knowing that I am unmarried, you speak so cheaply about me. This is your third crime.

May be you are not in your right senses. May be you are intoxicated or infatuated. Go away from here immediately. Are you not afraid of the wrath of the king?"

These angry words were shaken off by Srinivaasan like a duck shaking off the water poured on its back. The situation became a battle of wills and Srinivaasan gave no hint of leaving that garden as commanded by Padmaavati!

#11d. மோதலும், காதலும்!

"எந்த விதத்தில் குறைந்துவிட்டேன் பெண்ணே?
என்னை மணக்கப் புண்ணியம் பண்ண வேண்டும்!"

"அம்பு எய்து மதயானையை விரட்டிய பின்பும்
வம்பு செய்து எம்மைத் துன்புறுத்துவது ஏனோ?"

"போகாவிட்டால் என்ன செய்ய முடியும் உன்னால்?"
"போகாவிட்டால் உங்கள் உயிரை வாங்கிவிடுவேன்!"

"உயிருக்கு அதிபதியான என் உயிரையா?"என்றான்.
"பயித்தியத்தை அடித்து விரட்டிவிடுங்கள்!" என்றாள்.

சொல்லடிகள் பட்டு நின்றிருந்த ஸ்ரீனிவாசனுக்குக்
கல்லடிகள் கொடுக்கலாயினர் தோழிப் பெண்கள்.

காயம் பட்டது சில கற்கள் தாக்கி - எனினும்
நியாயம் கேட்க நிற்கவில்லை ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்!

மோதல் ஏற்படும் இருவர் சந்தித்தவுடனே!
காதல் ஆகிவிடும் பின்னர் சிந்தித்தவுடனே!

அடித்து விரட்டச் சொன்ன பத்மாவதியை
அடித்து விட்டன மன்மதனின் பாணங்கள்.

நாரணன் வெளியேறிய பின்னர் உலகம் தன்
பூரணத்துவம் இழந்தது போல் தோன்றியது.

உலகமே இருண்டது போலத் தோன்றியது
கலகமே நிறைந்த மனதின் நினைவுகளால்!

பாலும் கசந்தது; பஞ்சணை வருத்தியது;
கோலம் மாறியது; பசலை நோய் படர்ந்தது.

"மந்திரம் போட்டுவிட்டானோ அந்தத்
தந்திரம் அறிந்த வம்புக்கார வாலிபன்?

உற்சாகமாகச் சண்டையிட்டாள் அவனுடன்!
உற்சாகம் இழந்து ஆளே மாறிப் போய்விட்டாள்.

ரதத்தில் ஏற்றி அமர்த்தினர் பத்மாவதியை;
ரதம் விரைந்தது மன்னனின் மாளிகைக்கு.

#11d. The clash and the crush!

"What do I lack my dear princess? You must be very lucky to marry me!" Srinivaasan told Padmaavati. "You came to save us from the mad elephant. The elephant has long since gone away! May I know why you are still hanging around here in my garden?" She asked him.

"What will you do if I refuse to leave this place ?" he taunted her . "I will take off your life!" she retorted.

"Take off the life of one who is the savior of every one's life?" He laughed at her openly now. Padmaavati lost her temper completely and told her friends, "Drive him away by any means!"

Her friends started pelting stones on poor Srinivaasan. Some of the stones made their mark and caused wounds and Srinivaasan thought it was wise to make a disappearing act from there.

When two young people meet for the first time, they may clash. But soon it will be followed by an inexplicable crush for each other. The same thing happened here also.

Padmaavati had Srinivaasan stoned by her friends but she herself was hit by the arrows of Cupid. The world looked washed out and lackluster after Srinivaasan went away.

Her mind was troubled by the recent events. She hated the sight of the sweet nourishing milk and the soft cushions seemed to hurt her. She looked so different and was lovelorn.

Her friends wondered whether the teasing and mischievous young man had cast any evil spell on their princess. She fought with him in such a spirited manner, but now she had became so serious and sad.

They made her sit on her chariot and drove her to the palace in a great hurry.

#11e. காதல் நோய்.

அந்தப்புரம் சென்று வணங்கினர் அரசியை
அரண்மனை திரும்பிய உடன் தோழிகள்

வாடிய முகங்கள்; வாயடைத்த பெண்கள்;
தேடினாலும் காணவில்லை பத்மாவதியை!

"அன்னியன் ஒருவன் நுழைந்து விட்டான்
அரண்மனை உத்தியான வனத்தில் இன்று!

மதயானையைத் துரத்தி வந்தானாம் அங்கு.
மதயானை ஓடிவிட்டது அவன் பாணத்துக்கு!

வம்பு செய்து பேசினான் பத்மாவதியிடம்;
கம்பு கொண்டு புடையாமல் கல் எறிந்தோம்.

நழுவினான் கழுவும் மீனில் நழுவும் மீனாக!
இழந்துவிட்டாள் இவள் தன் உற்சாகத்தை!

மகளைத் தேடி ஓடினள் அரசி அந்தப்புரத்தில்.
மகளோ வெட்டவெளியை வெறித்திருந்தாள்!

'கெடுதலே நினையாத நான் இன்று மட்டும்
கொடூரமாக ஏன் நடந்து கொண்டு விட்டேன் ?

அடி பலமாகப் பட்டிருக்குமோ என்னவோ?
துடிப்பான இளைஞன்! பயித்தியம் அல்ல!'

அன்னை வந்ததையும் கவனிக்கவில்லை;
சொன்ன சொற்களையும் கவனிக்கவில்லை!

திருஷ்டி கழித்தாள் அரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!
திரு நீறு பூசினாள் அரசி பத்மாவதிக்கு!

உணவு இறங்கவில்லை பத்மாவதிக்கு!
உறக்கமும் பிடிக்கவில்லை பத்மாவதிக்கு.

குலகுரு சுகர் வந்தார், அறிவுரைகள் தந்தார்;
"மலர்வனம் அருகேயே அகத்தியர் ஆசிரமம்!

பரமசிவன் அபிஷேக நீரைக் கொண்டுவந்து
அரசகுமாரி மேல் தெளித்தால் குணமாகும்!"

பதினோரு வேத விற்பன்னர்கள் சென்றனர்,
பரமசிவனுக்கு அபிஷேக ஆராதனை செய்ய!

#11e. Bitten by the love bug!

Padmaavati's friends went straight to the Queen DharaNi Devi and paid their respect. The Queen knew that something was wrong - since the girls were unusually quiet and looked very serious. Padamaavati was not to be seen among them!

The girls told their Queen, "Today a strange young man had entered our flower garden. He said that he was chasing a mad elephant and it had led him to our garden. The elephant ran away when he shot an arrow on it.

But he stayed on there and was teasing and taunting our princess. We threw stones at him and he went away. A tremendous change has come over the princess now!"

The queen ran to her daughter. Padmaavati was sitting staring vacantly. She neither saw her mother approaching her nor heard the words spoken by her.

She was thinking over her own strange behavior during the day! 'I never think of doing any harm to anyone. Then why did I behave so rudely towards that young man? He was a very smart and handsome and certainly was not mad !'

The Queen removed the effects of the evil eyes by doing drushti parihaaram. She smeared the holy ash on the forehead of the princess but they were of no use. Padmaavati would neither eat well nor sleep well.

Kula guru Sage Sugar advised the King and the Queen, "Please perform abhishekham in the Siva temple situated in the aashram of Sage Agasthyaa and sprinkle that holy water on our princess. She would become her normal self once again."

The King sent eleven pundits well versed in Veda to perform the aaraadhanaa in the Siva temple situated in the aashram of Sage Agasthya near the royal nanda vanam.

#12. பத்மாவதி யார்?

விடியலில் எழும் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் அன்று
வெகுநேரம் வரையிலும் எழவில்லை.

வேட்டையாடின களைப்பு என்று எண்ணி
விட்டு விட்டாள் அவனை வகுளமாலிகை.

விழித்துக் கொண்டு விருதாகப் படுத்திருந்தான்;
எழுப்பினாலும் எழவில்லை மஞ்சத்திலிருந்து.

என்ன நடந்தது என்று பலவாறாகக் கேட்டும்,
என்ன நடந்தது என்று சொல்லவே இல்லை.

"எவள் மீதாவது மோஹம் கொண்டாயா?" என,
"எப்படிக் கண்டு பிடித்தீர்கள் அம்மா?" என்றான்!

"நீராடி உணவருந்திய பின் கூறு என்னிடம்,
நீ கண்ட பெண்ணைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களை!"

"காட்டில் வேட்டையாடும் போது நான் கண்டேன்
காட்டு யானை ஒன்று மதம்கொண்டு திரிவதை!

மனிதர்களுக்குத் தீங்கு செய்யுமோ என்றஞ்சி
கனத்த காட்டுக்குள் விரட்டி விட முயன்றேன்.

மலைச் சரிவில் இறங்கி ஓடியது மதயானை.
மலர் வனம் ஒன்றில் புகுந்தது அம்மதயானை.

நாராயண புரத்தை ஆட்சி செய்யும் மன்னன்
ஆகாசராஜனின் விசேஷ மலர்வனமாம் அது.

மன்னன் மகள் இருந்தாள் தன் தோழியருடன்;
மனதைப் பறிகொடுத்துவிட்டேன் கண்டவுடன்!

விருப்பத்தைத் தெரிவித்தேன் நான் அவளிடம்;
விரட்டி விட்டாள் என்னைக் கல்லால் அடித்து .

எங்கெங்கு நோக்கிலும் தெரிவது அவள் முகமே!
எங்கள் திருமணம் நடக்குமா அம்மா?" என்றான்.

"மணம் செய்ய விரும்புகிறாய் பத்மாவதியை.
குணம் கொண்டவளா உனக்கு ஏற்றவாறு?"

"அறியமாட்டாய் நீ அவள் யார் என்பதை!
அறிவேன் நான்! கூறுவேன் உனக்கும் !"

#12. Who is Padmaavati?

Srinivaasan used to get up from bed very early in the morning. On that day he did not get up at the usual hour. VaguLa Maalikaa thought that he was tired after his hunting expedition and did not disturb him.

But he lay wise awake and deep in thoughts. She asked him what was the matter but he kept mum. Finally she lost her patience and asked him, "Have you fallen in love with some sweet maiden?"

Srinivaasan's face brightened and he asked her quite surprised,"How did you find it out mother?" She told him, "Take your bath, eat your food and then tell me all about that girl"

Srinivaasan told her the events of the previous day in detail. "I saw a mad elephant on rampage in the forest. I tried to chase it back into the deep jungle. But it started running towards Naaraayana Puram and entered a garden meant for the princess and her friends.

I too entered the garden. I saw the princess Padmaavati and fell in love with her at the very first sight. I told her my love. She drove me away from there after pelted me with stones by her friends. I can see only her face wherever I look. Will our marriage ever take place mother?"

"So you want to marry princes Padmaavati? Are you sure she has a good nature to suit your own nature?" He replied, "Mother! you do not know anything about princess Padmaavati. I know everything about her and I shall tell you now!"

#13a. வேதவதி

திரேதா யுகத்தில் இலங்கேஸ்வரன்
திரிலோக சஞ்சாரம் செய்து வந்தான்.

இமாலயச் சாரலில் கண்டு மோஹித்தான்
அமானுஷ்ய அழகுடைய ஒரு சுந்தரியை.

வேதவதி என்ற அந்தக் கன்னிகைக்கு
வேதவாக்கு ஆகும் தந்தையின் சொல்.

மகாவிஷ்ணுவை வரித்தாள் தன் மணாளனாக;
ஹிமாச்சலத்தில் செய்து வந்தாள் கடும் தவம்.

நெருங்கினான் வேதவதியை இலங்கேஸ்வரன்.
விரும்பினான் அவள் அழகை அனுபவிப்பதற்கு!

"பரந்தாமனை வரித்துவிட்டேன் மணாளனாக!
பரபுஷர்களுக்கு இடமில்லை மனதில்" என்றாள்.

"பரந்தாமனுக்கு இளைத்தவனோ இந்த ராவணன்?
பரமசுகமாக வாழலாம் என்னை மணந்துகொண்டு!"

வேதவதி ஏற்கவில்லை இந்தக் கோரிக்கையை.
வேண்டாம் என்றால் விடுபவனா இராவணன்?

தலைக்கு ஏறிவிட்ட மோக வேகத்தில் - அவள்
தலை மயிரைப் பற்றிக் கொண்டு சூளுரைத்தான்.

"அடையாமல் ஓயமாட்டேன் நான் விரும்பியதை!"
அடிபட்ட பெண் நாகமாக மாறிவிட்டாள் வேதவதி.

"கேசத்தைத் தீண்டி அதை மாசு படுத்திவிட்டாய்!
கேசவனுக்கு உகந்தது அல்ல அது இனிமேலும்!

திடமனத்தோடு தவம் புரிந்துவந்த வேதவதியின்
இடக்கையே மாறி விட்டது ஒரு கூரிய கத்தியாக!

கேசத்தையே துண்டித்து விட்டாள் இடக் கையால்!
மோசமான எண்ணத்தை அது மாற்றிவிடவில்லை.

திடுக்கிட்டான் ராவணன்; மனம் தளரவில்லை;
தடுத்ததால் மேன்மேலும் வளர்ந்தது காம ஜுரம்.

#13a. Vedavati

In Treta yugam RaavaN used to travel in all the three worlds. One day he saw an unusually beautiful maiden on the slopes of Himalaya and felt his lust surging in him.

The maiden was Vedavati. She had decided to marry Vishnu as desired by her father. She was doing severe penance towards her goal, on the slopes of Himalaya.

RaavaN approached her but she refused bluntly saying, "I have decided to marry Vishnu and there is no place for any other person in my life!"

RaavaN felt insulted and asked her. "How am I inferior to your Vishnu? If you marry me you can live in pure bliss."

But she was adamant in her decision. RaavaN was not to be put off so easily. He was used to getting everything he set his mind on.

He pulled her by her hair and said, "Nothing will stop me from enjoying what my heart desires!" Vedavati became wild like a wounded serpent and said,

"You have touched my hair and made it unfit for Vishnu. I have no need for it any more!" Her left hand transformed into a sharp knife by the power of her penance. She cut off her hair touched by Raavan, using her left hand as a knife.

RaavaN was shocked to see this but it did not deter him from his determination. In fact his desire to possess her became more than it was before.

#13 b. வேதவதியின் சாபம்

அண்டம் குலுங்க நகைத்தான் ராவணன்;
கொண்டது விடா முதலையும், மூர்க்கனும்!

"மந்திர, தந்திரப் பிரயோகங்கள் என்னிடத்திலா ?
தந்திரங்களில் பெயர் போனவன் இந்த ராவணன் !"

மீண்டும் நெருங்கினான் வேதவதியை ராவணன்;
மீண்டும் தியானித்தாள் வேதவதி பரந்தாமனை;

வேதவதி ஒரு புனிதவதி அதனால் அங்கு
வேகமாக வளர்ந்தது அக்கினி ஒரு தடுப்பாக.

திகு திகு என்று எரியத் தொடங்கியது அது
திகில் அடைந்த அபலையைக் காப்பதற்கு.

வரவழைத்தான் ராவணன் வஜ்ஜிராயுதத்தை.
எரியும் தீயை அணைக்க முயன்றான் அவன்.

'கற்பைக் காத்துக் கொள்ள இருக்கும் ஒரே வழி
கயவன் தொடுமுன் உயிரை விடுவதே ஆகும்!'

"காமத்தால் கண்ணிழந்து விட்ட அரக்கனே!
காமம் நிறைவேற அனுமதிக்க மாட்டேன்!

விடுவேன் என்னுயிரை எரியும் தீயில் குதித்து;
விடாது என்றும் இந்தப் பாவம் உன் குலத்தை!

பழி தீர்க்கும் உன்னை என்றாவது ஒருநாள்!
அழிவாய் நீயும், உன் குலமும் பெண்ணால்!"

சாபம் இட்டாள்; குதித்தாள் அந்த நெருப்பில்
சாபம் வீண் போகவில்லை; பலித்தது பிறகு.

சீதையிடம் கொண்ட விபரீத மோஹமே
சீரழித்துவிட்டது அவன் வம்சத்தினையே1

#13 b. The curse!

RaavaN laughed so that the whole world trembled. A crocodile would never would let go of its price catch nor a fool his pet theory.

"You are exhibiting the power of your Maya to me the king of Maya! " he made fun of Vedavati and went near her again. Vedavati meditated on Vishnu and prayed for protection. A barrier of fire appeared in between them immediately.

It burned with high flames. RaavaN could not go near her. He summoned his Vajraayudam and tried to put off the barrier of fire in between them.

Vedavati realized that that the only way to escape from this lusty demon was to give up her body to the flames instead of to him.

She cursed him," You are blinded by your lust. I will never let you touch me body. I will rather offer it to this fire. This sin committed by you will never let you live in peace. It will surely punish you. You and your race will be destroyed by a woman."

She jumped into the roaring flame. Her curse came true since Raavan and his race were completely destroyed by his unjust lust towards Sita.

#13c. இரண்டு சீதைகள்

தந்தை சொல் மிக்க மந்திரம் இல்லை எனத்
தன்னாட்டை விடுத்துக் கனகம் ஏகினான்

தம்பியுடனும், சீதையுடனும் ஸ்ரீ ராமன்.
தங்கினர் பஞ்சவடியில் அமைதியுடன்.

தையல் சீதையைத் தாக்கினாள் - ராமனிடம்
மையல் கொண்டுவிட்ட அரக்கி சூர்ப்பனகை.

காது, மூக்கு அறுபட்டு அலறி ஓடிச் சென்று
ஓதினாள் சீதையின் அழகை ராவணனிடம்.

காமம் கொண்டான் கண்டிராத சீதைமீது!
ஏமாற்றினான் ஒரு மாய மானை அனுப்பி!

அப்புறப்படுத்தினான் ராம, லக்ஷ்மணர்களை.
அபகரித்தான் சீதையைப் பர்ணசாலையுடன்.

"அபாயம் நேரக் கூடாது சீதைக்கு!" என்று
உபாயம் ஒன்று செய்தான் அக்கினிதேவன்

வேதவதியுடன் வந்தான் விரைந்து வெளியில்!
வேகமான ராவணனை மறித்தான் வழியில்!

"உண்மை சீதை இருக்கிறாள் என்னிடம்;
உன்னிடம் இருப்பவள் ஒரு மாயச் சீதை.

எடுத்துச் செல் இந்த உண்மை சீதையை!
விடுத்துச் செல் அந்த மாயச் சீதையை!"

நம்பினான் அக்கினியின் சொற்களை ராவணன்;
அம்பென விரைந்தான் வேதவதியுடன் இலங்கை.

சீதையை விட்டு விட்டான் அக்கினிதேவனிடம்;
சீதையை விட்டான் ஸ்வாஹாவிடம் அக்கினி.

ராவணன் அழிந்தபின் அக்கினிப் பரீட்சை
ராமன் செய்யச் சொன்னன் வேதவதியிடம்.

வலம் வந்தாள் அக்கினியை மூன்று முறை;
வணங்கினாள் ராமனை; இறங்கினாள் தீயில்!

வெளிப்பட்டார் அக்கணமே அக்கினி தேவன்!
வெளிப்பட்டனர் அவருடன் இரண்டு சீதைகள்!

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

#13 c. Two Sitaas!

Sri Raman went for vana vaasam with his younger brother LakshmaN and wife Sitaa, as commanded by his father Dasaratha. They lived in Panchavadi in peace.

Soorpanakha (RaavaN's sister) fell in love with Rama and wanted to marry him. She tried to hurt Sitaa who was a hindrance to her one sided love.

LakshmaN punished her by chopping off her nose and ears. Soorpanakha went back to Lanka and ignited lust in the mind of RaavaN - by talking about the nonpareil beauty of Sitaa.

RaavaN was infatuated with the Sitaa whom he has not seen yet. He sent a fancy deer and got Rama and LakshmaN out of his way. He abducted Sitaa along with her parNa saalaa.

Agni was worried abut the safety of Sitaa in the hands of RaavaN. He came forward with the Vedavati - who had jumped into fire earlier, but whom he had saved unhurt and protected with respect.

Agni told RaavaN, "This lady with me is the real Sitaa. The one with you is Maya Sitaa. Please take this real one and leave behind the Maya one."

RaavaN trusted Agni's words completely. He left behind the lady abducted from Panchavadi and went to Lanka with Vedavati instead.

After RaavaN was killed in the war, Rama asked Sitaa to go through the Agni Pareeksha. She (Vedavati) went round the fire thrice, paid her respect to Rama and jumped in to the fire.

Immediately Agni Devan emerged from the flames. There were two Sitaas with him now.

#13d . ஏக பத்தினி விரதம்

"இருவரையும் ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்!" என்றான்.
'ஒருவருக்கும் ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை!" என்பேன்.

"இவர் தங்கள் தேவி சீதா பிராட்டியார்;
இவர் வேதவதி என்னும் பிராட்டியார் .

வேதவதியே ராவணனின் சிறையிலிருந்தவர்;
தேவன் விஷ்ணுவை மணாளனாக வரித்தவர்.

இமயத்தில் நிஷ்டையில் இருக்கும் வேளை,
இராவணன் கண்டு மோஹித்தான் இவளை.

பலவந்தம் செய்ய நெருங்கினான் இவளை;
பயந்து தீயினில் குதித்துவிட்டாள் இவள்.

பத்திரமாக ஒப்படைத்தேன் என் மனைவியிடம்
தந்திரமாக மீட்டோம் சீதா தேவியைப் பின்னர்.

இருவருமே தங்களுக்கு உரியவர்கள் தாம்!
இருவரையும் ஏற்க வேண்டும் தங்கள்!" என;

சீதையும் கூறினாள் ராமனிடம் சென்று
"வேதவதி துன்புற்று என்னைக் காத்தாள்.

தாமதம் இன்றி ஏற்றுக் கொள்வீர் அவளை!"
ராமன் ஏற்கவில்லை இந்த வேண்டுகோளை.

"ஏக பத்தினி விரதம் பூண்டுள்ளதை அறிவாய்
ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள முடியாது இவளை இப்போது!

கலியுகத்தில் வசிப்பேன் சேஷாச்சலத்தில்,
கலியுகத்தில் மணப்பேன் நான் வேதவதியை.

ஆகாசராஜன் மகள் பத்மாவதி ஆவாள் - இவள்.
அரும் தவம் பலித்து என்னையும் மணப்பாள்!"

#13 d. Eka Patni Vratham

Agni Devan told Rama, "Please accept both these Devis, since they both belong to you. This is Sitaa Devi. This Vedavati Devi. She is the one who went to Lanka to save Sitaa Devi from the cruel RaavaN.

She had decided to marry Vishnu and was doing penance on the slopes of Himalaya. RaavaN was filled with lust at her sight and wanted to enjoy her youth and beauty.

Vedavati jumped into the roaring fire to escape from RaavaN. I saved her and left her in the care on my wife. Later when Sitaa Devi was abducted, we both freed her form RaavaN by a clever scheme. Both are worthy of you. Please accept both these Devis"

Sitaa also told Rama, "Vedavati had suffered in Lanka to spare me from RaavaN's cruelty. Please accept her also" But Rama told her, "I have taken an oath to have only one wife in this birth. So I cannot accept Vedavati now.

However I will reside in Seshaachalam in Kali yuga. Then Vedavati will be born as Padmaavati - the daughter of Aaakaasa Raajan. I will marry her then!"

#13e. சிவஆராதனை

"வேதவதியே இப்போது பத்மாவதி - அதனால்
வேண்டுமென்றே விலகிச் சென்றாள் லக்ஷ்மி".

மன்னனைச் சந்திக்கச் சென்றாள் வகுளமாலிகை;
அன்னையுடன் சற்று வழி நடந்தான் சீனிவாசன்.

மாலை மங்கியது நகரை நெருங்குகையில்;
கோலாகல ஆராதனைகளின் ஒலி கேட்டது

அருகிலே இருந்த அகத்தியரின் ஆசிரமத்தில்;
விரும்பிக் கலந்து கொண்டாள் பூஜைகளில்!

விரைந்து சென்று நகரை அடைந்தாலும்
இரவில் மன்னனைக் காண முடியாதே!

வேதபாராயணம் தொடர்ந்து நடந்தது;
வேத வல்லுனர் செய்தனர் அபிஷேகம்.

.விமரிசையாக நடந்தன பூஜைகள்.
வெற்றி நிச்சயம் வந்த காரியத்தில்.

"ஆராதனைக்குக் காரணம் என்ன?" என
"நாராயணபுரி இளவரசிக்காக நடக்கிறது.

உற்சாகம் இழந்து விட்டாளாம் திடீரென்று
உறங்குவதும், உண்பதும் இல்லையாம்!"

'காதல் வயப்பட்டுள்ளாள் பத்மாவதி தேவி
காதலுக்கு வைத்தியம் கல்யாணம் அன்றோ?'

பூஜை முடிந்தது பொழுது புலருகையில்!
பூஜைப் பிரசாதமும், தீர்த்தமும் சென்றன.

வகுள மாலிகையும் சென்றாள் அவற்றுடன்
வெகு விரைவாக மன்னனைக் கண்டு பேசிட!

#13e. The Siva pooja

"Vedavati is reborn now as Padmaavati! Lakshmi went away from me on purpose so that we two can come together" Srinivaasan concluded the life history of Vedavati.

VaguLa Maalikai went to meet the King Akaasa Raajan. Srinivaasan accompanied her to some distance. when she was nearing the city, already dusk was falling.

She could hear the sounds of Siva aaraadhanaa in the Agasthya's aashram nearby. She took part in the pooja which lasted the whole night. Even if she hurried to reach the city, it would be impossible to meet the king at night time.

The pundits were chanting Veda and doing Abhishekham to Siva. The pooja was completed to the satisfaction of everyone. VaguLa Maalika felt reassured that her mission would be successful.

She asked one of the ladies gathered there, "What is the purpose of this aaraadhanaa?" The lady replied in all earnestness. "The princess is under an evil spell. She neither eats nor sleeps. This pooja is done for her sake"

VaguLa Maalika smiled to herself. 'The princess has been bitten by the love bug and the treatment will be getting her married soon.'

The next morning the prasaadam and theertham were sent to the palace. She too went along with those people carrying them, to the palace, to meet the King Aakaasa Raajan.

#14 a. குறத்தி

அன்னையுடன் வழி நடந்த ஸ்ரீனிவாசனுக்கு,
பின்னர் இருப்புக் கொள்ளவில்லை தனியே.

'சென்ற காரியம் வெற்றி அடையுமா? அன்னை
வென்று திரும்புவாளா? அல்லது தோற்பாளா?'

தோற்று விடும் எண்ணமே தோற்றுவித்தது
தேற்ற இயலாத மனக்கவலையை நெஞ்சில்.

தன் பங்குக்கும் செய்ய வேண்டும் ஏதாவது,
தன் விருப்பம் தடையின்றி நிறைவேறிட.

மாறினான் நகரின் எல்லையை அடைந்ததும்,
குறி சொல்லும் அழகிய குறத்தியாக அவன்!

"சொல்வேன் உள்ளபடி மூன்று காலத்தையும்!
வெல்வேன் உங்கள் எல்லா தோஷங்களையும்!"

குறத்தியை அழைத்து வரச் சொன்னாள் அரசி.
குறத்தியை அழைத்து வந்தனர் தோழியர்கள்.

"குறி சொல்வதில் நீ திறமைசாலியாமே!
குறி சொல்கிறாயா அரசகுமாரிக்கு?" என,

"நான் சொல்வது ஒன்றும் இல்லை தாயே!
நாவில் அமர்பவன் செந்தில் ஆண்டவன்!

அழையுங்கள் உங்கள் அரசகுமாரியை!"
"குழந்தையின் கைபார்த்துக் கூறி சொல்!"

நாணத்துடன் வந்து அமர்ந்தாள் பத்மாவதி
காணத் தந்தாள் தன் இடக்கரத்தை நீட்டி.

வெள்ளிப் பூண் போட்ட குழலால் தடவிய
கள்ளக் குறத்தியும் குறி சொல்லலானாள்!

#14 a. The Fortune Teller

Srinivaasan accompanied VaguLa Maalika for some distance. After she went away he felt restless. 'Will my mother succeed in her mission? will she fail?' The very thought of failure made him feel miserable.

He said to himself, "I must put in some effort from my side, so the mother's mission surely succeeds." He went to the city of NaarayaNa Puram. As soon as reached it, he transformed himself into young and pretty fortune teller.

She announced her accomplishments as walked along the roads, "I can tell you the past, the present and the future correctly. I can remove all doshams by doing suitable parihaaram"

The queen heard the fortune teller and had her brought in to the palace. She asked the fortune teller, "Are you really as good as you claim to be?" The girl replied, " It is not me who does the talking my lady. The god Senthil naathan talks through me."

The queen told the girl to foretell the future of her dear daughter. The princess Padmaavati came, sat down and put forward her left palm.

Srinivaasan, in the guise of the fortune teller, ran his stick with silver rims over her palm and started to tell her fortune.

#14 b. குறத்தி

"குல தெய்வம் யார் கூறுங்கள் அரசி" எனவும்,
"குல தெய்வம் சேஷாத்ரி வாசனே!" என்றாள்.

"சேஷாத்ரி வாசன் உள்ளான் உங்கள் முன்பு!
பேசுவது அவனே என் நாவிலிருந்து இப்போது!

மலர் வனத்தில் இரண்டு தினங்களுக்கு முன்பு
மகள் சந்தித்தது அந்த சேஷாத்ரி வாசனையே!

மணக்கக் கேட்டான் இவளிடம் சம்மதம்;
பிணங்கிக் கொண்டு அடித்தாள் கல்லால்!

புறப்பட்டுப் போகுமுன் அவன் இவளுடைய
புறக் கண்களுக்கும் காட்சி அளித்துள்ளான்!

ஆகிவிட்டாள் அவன் நினைவால் இங்ஙனம்.
ஆகிவிடுவாள் சஹஜமாக, அவனை மணந்தால்.

விட்டு விட்டால் இவளை இப்படியே - இவள்
விட்டு விடுவாள் தன் உயிரையே ஏக்கத்தில்!"

யாரும் பேசவில்லை இதைக் கேட்ட பின்னர்.
யாரும் நம்பவில்லை குறத்தியின் குறியை

"பகவானை மணப்பது நடக்கும் காரியமா?
பகவானிடம் மனம் பேசுவதும் சாத்தியமா?"

"மனதைப் பறி கொடுத்தவனே அனுப்புவான்;
மணம் பேசி முடிக்கத் தகுந்த நபரை!" என்றாள்.

"பொற்காசுகளை அளித்தாள் அரசி குறத்திக்கு,
"நற்காரியம் நடப்பதே போதும் எனக்கு!" என்று

விடை பெற்றுச் சென்றவள் குறத்தி - ஆனால்
வீட்டைச் சென்று அடைந்தவன் ஸ்ரீனிவாசன்.

#14 b. The Fortune Teller

The fortune teller asked the Queen , "Who is your kula deivam?" The Queen replied, "Seshaadri vaasan is our kula deivam" The fortune teller continued," It is Seshaadri vaasan himself, who is sitting in front of you and talking to you!

Two days ago, the princess met Seshaadri Vaasan in the flower garden. He proposed to the princess but she drove him away by having his stoned.

Before he went away, he had revealed his identity to her. The thoughts about him have reduced the princess to this pitiable condition. If she marries him, she will become her normal self. If left alone like this, she may give up her life pining for her lover"

Everyone remained silent. No one could believe this prediction. The queen asked the girl, "Is it possible to marry a God? Who can talk to him and get the alliance finalized?'"

The girl replied, "The god who fell in love with the princess will take care of all those matters. He will send a suitable person to have this alliance fixed."

The queen gave the girl a few gold coins but she refused to take them saying " I will be very happy if the auspicious events happen soon"

The girl took leave of the Queen and went home and became Srinivaasan once again.
