#4. Veda Vyaasa
At one time, bhakti reduced in the world. People would not believe in the higher power called God. Vedas were misinterpreted and the karmas prescribed by Vedas were rejected and ridiculed.
Narayana and Brahma got worried by these developments. They went to Kailash to find a solution to this problem, with the help of lord Siva.
Narayana was entrusted with the task of collecting and spreading Veads and making people go back to the path of Bhakti. He had to be born as a human being and live among humans to be able to achieve this task.
Paraasara rushi was a great tapasvi. Machchagandi was the girl who transported people in her boat across Ganges. She was very pretty but her body gave off the smell of a fish, since she was born out of a fish - which had consumed the semen of a Vasu.
Paraasare fell in love with young Machchagandi. They got a son out of their union. It was Naraayanaa himself who was born as their baby with a dandam and kamandalam. He went o Bhadhareekaashram to do penance.
He unified all the Vedas. He made them in to four parts for easy propagation. He became known as Veda Vyasa.
He learned the 18 Puraanas from Sanath kumara. But Vyasa was not able to compose them into slokas. Something was blocking his efforts and he could not write even a single line. He panicked and ran to Brahma seeking his advice.
Brahma said, "Nothing can be done successfully without the blessing of Vinayaka. You forgot to worship him before you started your venture. I shall relate the glories of Vinayaka. Listen to them carefully!"
