6#18c. Devi’s reply.

Dakshayani’s anger knew no bounds. In a moment everything started trembling in utter fear.

The water bodies shook; the flames of the fie shook; the clouds shook; Vishnu trembled. Brahma trembled;

Vimala, devi’s friend, tried to console Daakshaayani.

Devi spoke to Dakshan with seething anger,”You insulted me but I do not mind it. I will ever allow you to

insult my dear swami. He is pure and flawless. All the Vedas praise him sing his glory.

The very word Siva gives mukti to his devotees. He will tolerate all your misdeeds

But when the time comes to punish, he will punish certainly. Now no one can save you!”

She returned to Kailash hurt and angry. Siva’s prediction that she would be insulted had come true!

She went straight to Siva and told him, Please destroy the yaagaa!!”

6#19a. வீரபத்திரர்

தக்கனின் வேள்வியை அழிக்க
முக்கண்ணன் செய்தான் முடிவு.

ஆயிரம் தலைகளும், முகங்களும்,
ஆயிரம் முகங்களில் முக்கண்களும்,

வலிய ஈராயிரம் நீண்ட தோள்களும்,
வளைந்த கொடிய பற்களும் கொண்ட

வீரபத்திரர் அங்கே தோன்றி அருளினார்.
வீரபத்திரர் உடலில் சிவனின் அணிகள்!

நெற்றிக் கண்ணில் இருந்து தோற்றியவர்
சற்றும் சளைத்தவர் இல்லை சிவனுக்கு!

அன்னையும் உற்பத்தி செய்தாள் உடனே
தன் பங்குக்கு பத்திரகாளி அம்மனை.

ஆயிரம் முகங்கள், ஈராயிரம் தோள்கள்,
அமைந்தாள் வீரபத்திரரின் துணைவியாக!

திங்களணிப் பிரானைப் பணிந்தனர்,
“எங்களைப் படைத்த காரணம் என்ன?”

“முக்கண்ணனை இகழ்ந்து வேள்வி புரியும்
தக்கனுக்குத் தக்க பாடம் புகட்டுவீர்!

பெறுவீர் எமக்குரிய வேள்வி அவியை!
தரமறுத்தால் அறுப்பீர் அவன் தலையை.

கொண்டும் கொன்றும் அழித்திடுவீர்
கெடுமதியாளனின் உற்றம் சுற்றத்தை.”

6#19a. Veerabadrar

Siva decided to ruin the Daksh Yagna.

He created Veerabadran out of his fiery third eye.

Veerabdran had one thousand heads and faces and

two thousand strong shoulders.

His teeth were strong and curved.

He wore the same ornaments as Siva and was equal to Siva.

Devi Dhaakshaayani created Badra Kaali who also had

one thousand heads and faces and two thousand shoulders.

They both paid obeisance to Siva and Devi and asked,

“What is the purpose for which we have been created?”

Siva told them, “Dakshan is performing a yaaga insulting me.

Teach him a good lesson! Demand my share of havis.

If he refuses to give, destroy the yagna and all those who are attending it”

6#19b. வேள்விச் சாலை

உயிர்ப்புக் காற்று, வியர்வையினின்றும்
உடல் உறுப்புக்களினின்றும் வீரபத்திரர்

உற்பத்தி செய்தார் பூதக் கூட்டங்களை.
உற்பத்தி செய்தாள் காளி தன் படைகளை.

படைகள் புடைசூழச் சென்றனர் யாகசாலை;
பானுகம்பர் ஒலித்தார் இசைக்கருவிகளை!

படை முன்பு தண்டன், பினாகி, சிங்கன்
குடை பிடித்து நடந்தனர் யாகசாலைக்கு.

“தக்கனின் யாகசாலையினின்று எவரும்
தப்பிச் செல்லாது தடை செய்யுங்கள்!”

உடன் நடந்த படை விரிந்து பரந்து
தடை செய்தது செல்லும் வழிகளை.

எதிர்த்து வந்த தக்கனின் படைகளை
மிதித்துக் கொன்று ஆரவாரித்தனர்.

6#19b. Reaching the Yaagasala.

Veerabadran produced his army of demons from his breath, his sweat and the other parts of his body.

Kali produced her army similarly. They marched to the yaagasala with their armies.

Bhaanukampar played various instruments. Dandan, Pinaki and Singan

marched with their flags in front of the army.

After reaching the yaagasaala, Veerabadran commanded the army

to block all the exits of the yaagasaala.

The army spread out and blocked all the exits.

Dakshan’s army which came protesting this was vanquished effortlessly.

6#20a. வேள்விச் சாலை

கேள்வி முறையின்றி பலவந்தமாக
வேள்விச் சாலையில் நுழைந்தனர்.

அச்சத்தில் உறைந்து விட்டனர் தேவர்.
“தக்கனின் வேள்விக்கு வந்ததே தவறு!

தேடி வந்து தாக்குபவர்களிடமிருந்து
ஓடிப் போகவும் வழில்லாது போனது!”

இடிந்து நின்ற தக்கன் முன் சென்றார்
இடிபோல் நகைத்துக் கொம்பை ஊதினார்.

பிளந்தது மேருமலை; வெடித்தது நிலம்;
தளர்ந்தனர் தேவர், மற்றும் முனிவர்கள்.

ஓங்கி ஒலித்த வாத்தியத்தைக் கேட்டு
ஏங்கித் துன்புற்று நின்றான் தக்கன்.

“யார் நீ? எங்கு வந்தாய்?” என வினவ
“பார் போற்றும் சிவனாரின் மகன் நான்

அவிர் பாகத்தை அவர் சார்பில் பெற
அவர் ஆணைப்படி வந்துள்ளேன் நான்!”

“சிவனுக்கு வேள்வியின் அவிர் பாகத்தை
எவரும் தரமாட்டார் இனிமேல் உலகில்!”

பிரணவமும், மறைகளும் ஒன்றுகூடி
விரைந்து மொழிந்தன நல்லறிவினை!

“சிவனைத் தவிர வேறு யார் தலைவர்?
அவருக்கு உரிய அவியை அளிப்பாய்!”

தக்கனின் மனம் மாறவில்லை சற்றும்;
அக்கணமே மறைந்தன நான்மறைகள்!

6#20a. Destroying the yaaga.

They forced their entry into the yaagasaala.

The Deva froze in fear. They were blaming

themselves for having come to attend Dakshan’s yagna.

There was no hope of escaping from the place.

Dakshan stood rooted to the spot.

Veerabadran went to him and laughed like thunder claps.

He blew his horn. Mount Meru and the earth got cracked by that sound.

All the living things shivered in sheer fear.

Dakshan gathered all his courage and asked, “Who are you? Why are you here?”

Veerabadran plied, “I am the son of Siva. I have come here to collect his share of Havis on his behalf.

Dakshan replied, “Henceforth no one will offer Havis to Siva.”

Now The Vedas and Prananva spoke to Dakshan in unison,

“Siva is the lord of Yagna. Give away his share of Havis now.”

But Dakshan had made up his mind once for all.

The Vedas and Pranava disappeared from there immediately.

6#20b. தேவர் துன்பம்.

“மறைகள் கூறிய நல்லுரையைக் கேட்டாய்!
தருகின்றாயா எம்பிரானின் அவிர் பாகம்?”

“பித்தனுக்கு, ஒரு பெண்ணுடன் சுடுகாட்டில்
கூத்தாடுபவனுக்கு நான் அவிர் கொடேன்!”

திருமால், பிரமனிடம் கேட்டார் வீரபத்திரர்,
“மறுமொழி கூறுங்கள்! இது சரிதானா?”

திருமாலும், பிரமனும் வாய்மூடி நின்று,
மறுமொழி என்று எதுவுமே கூறவில்லை.

கடித்தார் பற்களை வீரபத்திரர் சினத்தால்;
அடித்தார் தடியால் திருமால் மார்பினை.

குட்டினார் நான்முகன் தலைகள் குலுங்க;
வெட்டினார் தேவியரின் நாசி, நகில்களை!

தேடி ஓடினர் ஒளியுமிடம் தேவர்கள்;
வாடி வதங்கினர் பதைத்துத் தவித்து.

தப்பி ஓடிய முழுத் திங்களைத் தள்ளி
அப்பினார் கால் சின்னம் தெரியும்படி.

கதிரவனுக்குக் கொடுத்த ஓர் அறையில்
உதிர்ந்தன அவன் பற்கள் அத்தனையும்!

விடுத்தான் தன் இன்னுயிரை ஆதவன்.
எடுத்தார் நமனின் தலையைக் கொய்து.

விண்ணிற் பறந்தான் இந்திரன் குயிலாக,
வீழ்த்தினார் குயிலை வாளால் வெட்டி!

வெட்டினார் தீக் கடவுளின் கரங்களை.
வெட்டினார் தீயின் ஏழுநாவுகளையும்!

கிள்ளினார் அவன் மனைவி நாசியை!
தள்ளினார் நிருதியைத் தடியால் அடித்து!

வணங்கிய ருத்திரர்களுக்கு மட்டும்
வழி விட்டார் தப்பி வெளியே செல்ல.

எழுவால் அடித்தார் வருண தேவனை;
மழுவால் அடித்தார் வாயு தேவனை.

வீழ்த்தினர் சூலத்தால் குபேரனை!
விரட்டினார் ஈசானிய ருத்திரனை.

வீழ்த்தினார் கணையால் அசுரேந்திரனை!
வீழ்த்தினார் வேள்வித் தலைவன் எச்சனை!.

6#20b. Deva’s sorrow.

Veerabaran asked Dakshan, ‘You heard the words of wisdom spoken by the Veda and Prananva. Will you give Siva’s Havis now?”

“I will never give Havis to the mad Siva who dances with a woman in the cremation grounds!”
Veerabadran demanded Vishnu and Brahma,

” Do you think what Dakshan does is correct?”
Neither of them replied to this question. They stood silently.

Veerabadran became very angry and bit his teeth hard. He hit Vishnu on his chest with the dandam He rapped Brahma so hard that all his four heads shook. He cut of the noses and breasts of Brahma’s three wives.

The rest of the Deva ran seeking shelter or a hiding place but in vain.
Full moon tried to run to safety. Veerabadran pushed him to the ground and stamped with his feet leaving a permanent marking on moon.

A hard slap made the Sun shed all his teeth and fall dead . Veerabadran cut off the head of Naman himself. Indra transformed into a cuckoo and tried to escape. He was cut with a sword. The hands and the seven tongues of Agni Devan were chopped off. The nose of his wife was plucked off!

Niruthi was beaten up. The rudras were allowed to escape unhurt. Varuna was hit by the Ezhu and Vaayu by the mazhu. Kuberan fell to a trident. Esaaniya Rudra was chased away. Asurendran was killed by an arrow and Echchan the head of the yagna was killed.

6#20c. இழிவும், அழிவும்

நிகழ்ந்தவற்றைக் கண்டான் தக்கன்.
“இகழ்ச்சி அடையுமோ என் வேள்வி?

எந்தை உரைத்தபடி சிவபெருமானைச்
சிந்தையில் நிறுத்தித் தவம் செய்தேன்

மேன்மைகள் தந்தான் இறைவன் ஆனால்
புன்மகனாகிக் குற்றங்கள் பல புரிந்தேன்!

முனிவரின் நன்னெறிளையும் மறுத்து
இனிய மகள், மருகனை வெறுத்தேன்!

வீரபத்திரன் வந்து கேட்ட போதும் நான்
வீராப்புப் பேசினேன்; அவி தர மறுத்தேன்!

வீரபத்திரரும், பத்திரகாளியும் இருக்க
வீண் கனவே தப்பிப் பிழைக்கும் செயல்!”

வீரபத்திரன் தக்கன் தலையை வெட்டி
விழுமுன் கையால் பற்றி எறிந்தார்.

வேள்வித் தீ உண்டுவிட்டது தலையை!
கேள்வி கேட்டவர் தலைகள் பந்தாயின.

இருவரும் சேர்ந்து கொன்று விட்டனர்
அருகில் இருந்த முனிவரை, தேவரை.

பூதப்படையினர் புகுந்தனர் யாகசாலை.
பூதப்படையினர் துரத்திப் பிடித்தனர்;

வெருண்டனர் சிலர், வெகுண்டனர் சிலர்,
மருண்டனர் சிலர், மயங்கினர் சிலர்,

கலங்கினர் சிலர், புலம்பினர் சிலர்,
கடித்தனர், அடித்தனர் தேவரைப் பூதர்.

ஒடித்தனர், முறித்தனர் கழுத்து, தோளை.
பிடுங்கினர் நாவை, நாசியைக் கண்களை!

கொளுத்தினர், எறிந்து கொன்றனர் பலரை.
அவிழ்த்தனர் ஆநிரை, யாகப் பசுக்களை.

அழித்தனர் அரம்பையர் உடற்கூறுகளை!
அழித்தனர் யாகக் குழியை, யாகத் தீயை!

இழிவு செய்தனர் தக்கனின் மருகரை.
அழித்து விட்டனர் தக்கன் யாகத்தை!

6#20d. விஷ்ணுவின் போர்.

விழுந்தார் தடியால் அடிபட்ட மால்;
எழுந்தார் மீண்டும் தெளிவடைந்து!

கருடனை நினைத்தும் வரவில்லை;
கருடன் இறந்துவிட்டது தெரிந்தது!

சினத்தையே கருடனாக ஆக்கினார்.
சீரிய ஐந்து ஆயுதங்கள் ஏந்தினார்.

தேர் ஒன்று அனுப்பினார் பெருமான்
தேரைச் செலுத்தினான் பிரம தேவன்.

பத்திரரும், காளியும் ஏறினர் தேரில்.
பத்திரரிடம் கேள்வி கேட்டார் மால்,

“இகழ்ந்த தக்கனை அழித்து சரியே
இகழாத தேவரை அழித்தது சரியா?”

“சிவனை இகழ்ந்த தீயவன் தக்கனின்
அவியை ஏற்றதற்கு தக்க தண்டனை!

உன்னையும் அழிப்பேன் காத்துக் கொள்”
சொன்ன சொற்கள் சினத்தை வளர்க்க,

சொற் போர் ஒன்று நடந்து முடிந்தபின்
விற்போர் ஒன்று தொடர்ந்து நடந்தது!

மாலின் நெற்றியில் செலுத்திய கணை
மாலுக்கு மயக்கம் அளித்து நின்றது.

உருளைப் படையை வீசினர் மால்.
உருளையை விழுங்கினார் வீரபத்திரர்.

தடிப் படையை எறிந்தார் திருமால்
தடிப் படையை அழித்தார் வீரபத்திரர்.

வாட்படையை எடுத்தார் திருமால்.
வானில் அசரீரி ‘சினத்தை விடு!” என

சினம் தணிந்த வீரபத்திரரிடம் திருமால்
இனம் தெரியா தவறுக்கு வருந்தினார்.

6#20d. Vishnu’s war.

Vishnu had fainted when he was hit on the chest by Veerabadran’s dandam. He came round later and got up. He wished for Garudan but it did not appear. It had got killed. Vishnu made his anger into another Garudan and mounted on it. He carried his five weapons and confronted Veerabadran and Badrakaali.

Siva sent down a chariot. Veerabadran and Badrakaali got into the chariot and Brahma became the charioteer.

Vishnu asked Veerabadran,” You killed Dakshan since he had insulted Siva. Why did you kill all the others?”

Veerabadran replied,”The others got killed because they had attended the yagna and accepted the havis given by Dakshan. On your guard. I am going to kill you also.”

They both fought with bows and arrows. Veerabadran hit Vishnu’s forehead with an arrow. It made Vishnu feel dizzy. He threw his discus on Veerabadran who promptly swallowed it whole. He threw his dandam which was promptly destroyed by Veerabadran. Vishnu now took out his sword and right then an asareeri said, “Become calm!”

Vishnu became calm and felt sorry for fighting with Veerabadran.

6#20e. சிவனும், உமையும்

சிவனும், உமையும் அங்கு காட்சி தந்தனர்.
சிவனை வணங்கினார் வீரபத்திரக் கடவுள்.

திருமாலும், நான்முகனும் நாணி
பெருமானை வணங்கி வழிபட்டனர்.

தக்கனும், தேவரும் இறந்தது கண்டு
மிக்க வருந்தினாள் உமை அன்னை.

“இறந்தவரை உயிர்ப்பிக்க வேண்டும்!”
இறைவனிடம் இறைஞ்சினாள் இறைவி.

பெருமான் ஆணையிட்டார் வீரபத்திரரிடம்,
“திரும்பவும் பிழைக்கச் செய் இறந்தவரை!”

“இறந்தவர் அனைவரும் மீண்டும் எழுவீர்!”
உறங்கியவர் போல் எழுந்தனர் அனைவரும்!

பிழைத்தும் நாணினர், அஞ்சித் தொழுதனர்;
பிழை பொறுத்துப் பிழைக்க வைத்த ஈசனை!

அஞ்சேல் எனத் தஞ்சம் அளித்தான் ஈசன்
நஞ்சுண்ட நாயகன் நமது சிவபெருமான்.

6#20e. Siva and Uma.

Siva and Uma appeared there. Veerabadran prostrated to them. Vishnu and Brahma also worshiped Siva.
Uma felt very upset on seeing the dead Deva and rushis. She requested Siva, “Please resurrect all those who had got killed here!”

Siva ordered Veerabadran, “Bring back to life all those who have got killed today!”
Veerabadran said, “All of you please arise!”

All those who lay dead woke up as if from a deep sleep. They felt ashamed and frightened on seeing Siva whom they have indirectly insulted along with Dakshan. Siva blessed them all.

6#20f. தக்கன் பிழைத்தல்

தக்கன் பிழைக்கவில்லை அங்கு!
முக்கண்ணனை பணிந்தான் பிரமன்,

“மிக்க அருள் புரிந்து என் மகன்
தக்கனுக்கு உயிர் பிச்சை தாரும்!”

தீயில் தக்கன் தலை எரிந்துவிட்டது;
உயிர்ப்பிக்கத் தேவை ஒரு தலை.

கோரமாகக் கிடந்த தக்கன் உடலில்
பொருத்தினர் ஓர் ஆட்டுத் தலையை!

“எழுக!” என்றதும் உயிர்த்தெழுந்தான்
எழுந்ததும் கண்டது வீரபத்திரரை.

அஞ்சினான், நாணினன், துயுருற்றான்!
“அஞ்சற்க!” என்று அருள் புரிந்தார்!

“குற்றங்களைப் பொறுத்தருள வேண்டும்!
மற்றொன்றும் விழைந்திலேன் ஐயனே!”

6#20f. Dakshan comes back to life.

Dakshan did not come back to life since his head had got burned in the fire.

Brahma requested Siva to bring back his son Dakshan to life.

He could come back to life only if he could get a new head.

Veerabadran fitted the head of a goat and brought back Dakshan to life.

Dakshan was filled with fear and shame at the sight of Veerabadran.

But be was given abhayam much to his relief.

He begged pardon for his thoughtless words and deeds.

6#21a. நான்முகன் அறிவுரை

“அறிந்து கொண்டாயா அறிவின் பயனை?
அறிவினால் நீ பெற்ற பயன்கள் யாவை?

கூற்றுவன் ஆனாய் உன் சுற்றத்தினருக்கு.
மற்றும் இழந்தாய் உன் முக அழகையும்!

உன் ஏவலர்களை முற்றிலும் இழந்தாய்.
உன் உணர்வுகளை மட்டுமே மதித்தாய்.

ஆன்றோர் வாக்குப்படி நடந்தாலன்றி
அனைத்துக் கேடுகளும் வந்து குவியும்.

செல்வங்கள் தந்த சிவனையும் மறந்தாய்!
பல்லுயிருக்கும் தோன்றும் இம்மயக்கம்.

எனக்கும் வந்தது முன்னர் மயக்கம்.
என் மயக்கத்தைப் போக்கினார் பிரான்.

அன்புடன் சிவனை தொழுபவர்களுகுத்
துன்பம் தொலையும் இன்பம் சேரும்.

பக்தி செய்பவர்களுக்கு அருள் கூர்ந்து
முக்தி அளிப்பவன் சிவனே அன்றோ?”

6#21a. Brahma’s advice.

Brahma spoke to his son Dahshan,

“Did you understand that little knowledge is a dangerous thing?

What is the outcome of your knowledge?

You caused the death of your kin and kith.

You lost your head and git it replaced by a goat’s head.

You lost all those who served you.

You never respected any one’s opinions and advice.

You thought that you knew everything.

Unless you follow the path shown by the wise you will get into all sorts of troubles.

Siva showered rare boons on you but you insulted him.

Those who worship Siva with sincere love and bhakti

will get rid of all their problems and live happily.

Those who are Siva’s true devotees get liberated

from the recurring cycle of births and death”

6#21b. ஆணவம் கொண்டது

ஆயிரம் நான்கு-ஊழிகள் என் பகல்.
ஆயிரம் நான்கு-ஊழிகள் என் இரவு.

பகல் முடிந்து இரவு உறங்குகையில்
படைத்தவை அனைத்தும் அழியும்.

சனலோகத்தை அடைவர் எஞ்சியவர்;
கனைகடல் பொங்கி அழிக்கும் உலகை!

திருமால் ஈசனின் திருவடிகளைத் துதித்து
உறக்கம் கொள்வார் ஓராலிலை மேல்.

படைப்புத் தொழில் தொடங்கும் போது
படைப்பவன் என ஆணவம் கொண்டு,

திருப்பாற்கடலில் அறிதுயில் கொண்ட
திருமாலின் உறக்கம் கெடுத்தேன் நான்.

“யார் நீர்! அதைக் கூறும்” எனக் கேட்டேன்.
“யான் உன் தந்தையென நீ அறியாயோ?”

“யானே பரம்பொருள் என நீ அறியாயோ?”
“யானே படைத்தேன் உன்னையும், பிறரையும்!”

“தூணிலிருந்து தோன்றினாய் அன்றொரு நாள்
தூண் உன் தந்தை ஆகிவிடுமா அதனால்?

பாரினில் பத்துப் பிறவிகள் எடுத்தாய்!
பார் படைத்துச் சிவந்த என் கரங்களை!”

“சிவன் கிள்ளினார் உன் உச்சந்தலையை!
சிறிதும் அதைப் படைக்க முடியவில்லை.

உன்னைப் படைத்த என்னிடமே நாணமின்றி
என்னைப் படைத்ததாகக் கூறுகின்றாய் நீ!”

6#21b. Becoming arrogant.

Brahma spoke to his son Dakshan.

“One thousand Chatur Yugams form one day and one thousand chatur yugams form one night for me.

At the end of the day when I sleep the entire creation will perish.

Those who did not get destroyed will reach the Janalokam.

The oceans will swell and everything will get submerged under water.

At the end of the night the creation will be resumed.

I became arrogant that I was the creator.

I went to the ocean of milk and disturbed the sleep of Narayana.

“Who are you? Tell me now!” I demanded him.

“I am your father and your creator” replied he.

“I am the creator and the supreme God! Don’t you know that ?” I retorted.

“Don’t you know that I created you and the others through you?” he asked.

“You were born out of a stone pillar. Is that your father according to you?

You took ten avatars on the earth. I am the one who creates everything.

My palms have turned red because of the hard work I do all the time!”

Narayana replied.”Siva took out your topmost head and till now you are unable to replace it.

6#21c. சொற் போர்

"உன்னைப் பெற்ற தாய் நானே அன்றோ !
உன்னைப் பெற்ற தந்தை நானே அன்றோ !

உன்னைப் படைத்த தெய்வம் நானே அன்றோ !
உனக்குக் கற்பித்த குருவும் நானே அன்றோ !

உந்தித் தாமரையில் முந்தித் தோன்றியதை
சிந்தையில் நிறுத்த மறந்து விட்டாய் போலும்.

மாயையினால் மதி மயங்கினை மேலும்!
தூய பொன் இன்றி அணிகலன்கள் ஏது?

அரசன் இல்லாமலேயே அரசாட்சி ஏது?
அமையாது எப்பொருளும் நான் இன்றி!

ஆட்டுவிக்கும் இறைவன் நானே அன்றோ?
அணுகுவதற்கு அரிய பரம்பொருள் நானே!

நாராயணனும் நானே! இந்திரனும் நானே!
பரம்பொருள் நானே! பரமசிவனும் நானே!

மறையில் உறையும் மறைபொருள் நானே!”
“உரைத்தது போதும்! போரிடுவோம் வாரும்!”

6#21c. The battle of words.

A battle of words ensued between me (Brahma) and Vishnu.

Vishnu told me,

“I am your mother and father. I am your God and Guru.

Have you forgotten that you emerged from my naval?

You are also deluded in addition to your forgetfulness.

Can there be any ornament without gold?

Can there be a kingdom without a king?

Nothing can exist without me. I am the one who makes things happen.

I am the god supreme who is beyond everything and everyone.

I am Narayana. I am Indra. I am the truth. I am the auspicious Siva.

I am the sacred meaning of the Vedas”

I (Brahma) interrupted Vishnu’s long speech and challenged him to fight me.

6#21d. போர் புரிதல்

திருமால் எய்த படைக்கலன்களை எல்லாம்
தருப்பையில் உருவாக்கி எய்தேன் நானும்.

சிவப் படைகலத்தினை எய்தார் நாரணன்.
சிவப் படைக்கலத்தினை எய்தேன் நானும்.

இரண்டு படைக்கலன்களும் போர் புரிந்தன!
புரண்டு உலகங்கள் எல்லாம் தாறுமறாயின.

நாரதன் தோன்றினான் எங்கள் முன்னால்!
அறிவுரை கூறினான், ஒரு பயன் இல்லை.

செருக்கு மேலிட்டதால் நாங்கள் இருவரும்
பொருது நின்றோம் பன்னெடுங் காலம்.

தம் திருவருளால் பெருமான் விழைந்தார்
எம் அறியாமையை அகற்றி விடுவதற்கு.

மாசித் திங்கள் பதினான்காம் நாளன்று
மாசில்லாத தீமலை ஒன்று தோன்றியது!

சிவப் படைக்கலன்களை உள்ளடக்கியது.
சிவந்து ஓங்கி ஒளிர்ந்தது வெம்மையுடன்!

“முடி, அடியைக் காணுங்கள்” என்று அசரீரி;
“முதலில் கண்டவரே முழு முதற் கடவுள்!

முடியைத் தேடிச் சென்றேன் நான் மேலே!
அடியைத் தேடிச் சென்றார் திருமால் கீழே!

பறந்தேன் அழகிய அன்னப் பறவையாக!
பன்றியாகி மால் மண்ணைத் தோண்டினார்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#21d. The war.

Vishnu shot his asthrams. I made the same astharams out of kusa grass and shot them on Vishnu. When Vishnu shot the Siva ashtram I too did the same. The two asthrams fought each other terribly. The whole world became upside down!

Narada appeared there. He spoke words of wisdom and tried to make us stop fighting but to no avail. We were both conceited and went on fighting for a very long time.

Siva wanted to put an end to our war as well our ignorance. On the fourteenth day of the Month of Maasi a huge mountain of fire appeared in front of us. It contained the Siva asthrams and shone with brilliance and heat.

We heard an asareeri telling both of us, “Go and find the top and bottom of this fiery mountain.
He who reaches his target first is the God supreme!”

I became a lovely swan and flew upwards searching for the top of the fiery mountain.
Vishnu became a boar and went digging down under the soil.

6#21e. பெருமான் அருள்

பன்றி வடிவு எடுத்தார் திருமால்;
பல காலம் தோண்டினர் நிலத்தை;

பாதாளம் சென்றும் காணவில்லை
புதிராக நின்ற தீச்சுடரின் அடியை!

பற்கள் நொந்தன, உடல் ஒடுங்கியது,
ஆற்றல் அழிந்தது, தாகம் பெருகியது,

திரும்பியது மீண்டும் தூய அறிவு!
திரும்பினார் மால் சுடருக்கருகில்.

தேடினேன் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் நான்,
முடியைக் காணவே முடியவில்லை.

உள்ளம் வெதும்பி, உயிர் உலைந்தது,
ஆற்றல் அழிந்து, கண்கள் இழிந்தன!

சிறகுகள் வருந்தின, ஓய்ந்தன கால்கள்,
அறிவு திரும்பியது, ஆணவம் ஒழிந்தது.

திருமால் இருந்த இடத்தை அடைந்தேன்;
தீர்ந்தோம் மனவேறுபாடுகள் இருவரும்!

சிவலிங்கத்தை அமைத்து வழிபட்டோம்.
சிவன் தோன்றினார் திருவருள் புரிந்தார்.

சுடரும் தூய அறிவினை அளித்து விட்டு
சுடரிலேயே மறைந்து விட்டார் மீண்டும்.
