6#13c. The tusk of a boar.

Hiranyaakshan stole the earth and hid it. Vishnu took the avatar as a boar to rid the world of this trouble.

He appeared as a small pig from Brahma’s nose. Soon it grew as big as the mount Meru. It dug below and

brought out the world. It established the earth as before. But it also became vary proud and arrogant and

started digging the earth with its tusks. Siva wanted to punish it. He broke away one of the tusks of the

boar. The boar came to its right senses immediately. Siva wore the crescent shaped tusk in his chest as an

ornament.
 
6#13d. ஆமையோடு

அமுதம் விழைந்தனர் தேவர், அசுரர்;
அமுதம் மறைந்திருந்தது பாற்கடலில்;
கடையும் மத்தானது மந்தர மலை.
கடையும் கயிறானது வாசுகிப் பாம்பு.

மலை மூழ்கி விட்டபோது திருமால்
மலையைத் தாங்கினார் ஆமையாகி.

பொங்கியது பாற்கடலில் அமுதம்.
பொங்கியது திருமாலின் ஆணவம்!

கலக்கித் திரிந்தது கடலில் விழுந்து!
நிலவுலகத்தினை அது அழிக்கலானது.

கெடுத்தார் ஈசன் ஆமையின் ஆற்றலை;
எடுத்தார் அதன் ஓட்டை அணிவதற்கு.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
6#13d. The shell of a turtle.

Devas and Asuras decided to bring out the Amrut from the Ocean of Milk.

Mandara mountain became the churner and Vaasuki the rope of the churner.

While the ocean was being churned, the Mandara got immersed.

Vishnu took the form of a huge turtle and supported the Mandara from below.

The nectar emerged from the ocean. Vishnu the tortoise became very proud of himself.

He churned the ocean and tried to destroy the land as well.

Siva wanted to bring it back to its senses. He removed the shell

of the tortoise and wore it as an ornament.
 
6#13e. ஐயம் ஏற்பது

வசித்தனர் முனிவர்கள் தாருகா வனத்தில்;
நேசிக்கவில்லை அவர்கள் சிவபெருமானை.
வீடுபேறு தரும் சிவனை வணங்காமலேயே
வீடுபேறு விழைந்தனர் கரும மார்க்கத்தில்.

தவம் புரிந்தனர்; வேள்விகள் செய்தனர்;
சிவன் விரும்பினார் மாறுபாட்டை நீக்கிவிட.

அழகிய ஆண் உருவம் தரித்தார் பெருமான்;
அழகிய பெண்ணாக மாறினார் திருமால்.

திகம்பர வடிவில் திரிந்தார் பெருமான்!
திகைக்க வைக்கும் மோகினி திருமால்!

மோகினி சென்றாள் முனிவர்களிடம்;
மோகத்தால் மயங்கினர் முனிவர்கள்.

தவித்தனர் கொண்ட காமத்தால் – பரி
தவித்தனர் தவத்தைத் துறந்துவிட்டு.

ஐயம் ஏற்பவனாக மாறிய பெருமான்
ஐயக் கடிகையுடன் தெருவை அடைந்து

மறைகளைப் பாடினார் நல்லிசையுடன்;
நிறை அழிந்தனர் முனிவர் மனைவியர்.

உள்ளம் உருகியது தேவ கானத்தில்;
கள்ளம் புகுந்தது மோக உள்ளத்தில்.

அவிழ்ந்தன அணிகலன்கள், வளைகள்,
நெகிழ்ந்தன இடையில் ஆடைகள்.

நாணம் கெட்டுக் கற்பும் கெட்டனர்.
ஆணழகனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர்.

கண் பார்வையிலேயே கர்ப்பம் தரித்து
ஈன்றனர் நாற்பத்தெண்ணாயிரம் மக்களை.

6#13d. Begging for food.

Several rushis lived in Taarukaa vanam. They did not love Siva. They believed in Karma Maargam to attain moksham.They did penance. They performed yaaga and yagna.

Siva decided it was time to make them see the truth. He transformed himself into a handsome young mendicant. Vishnu became the irresistible Mohini. The mendicant was a digambara – and did not wear any clothes.
Mohini went to the rushis. They fell head over heels in love with her. They could not get their desires
fulfilled nor could they continue their penance.

The digambara beggar reached the street where huts of the rushis were situated. He had a begging bowl in his hands. He sang the Vedas in a sweet voice. The wives of the rushis fell in love at the very first sight of the young mendicant.

They were mesmerized by his beauty, his youth, his songs and started to follow him. Their ornaments became loose due to their ‘viraga taapam’ and their clothes became disheveled. The lost their sense of shame and virtue. They became pregnant by the very sight of Siva and delivered 48,000 children.
 
6#13f. முனிவர்கள் சினம்

அருட்பார்வையால் உருவாகிய மக்கள்
திருவடிகளை வணங்கித் துதித்தனர்.
“என்னை எண்ணித் தவம் செய்வீர்!” எனப்
பின்னர் பிரான் பணித்தார் அம்மக்களை.

முனிவர் மனைவியர் வழி நடந்தனர்
மனத்தை மயக்கிய திகம்பரர் பின்னே!

மோகினி தொடர்ந்தாள் பெருமானை;
மோகினியைத் தொடர்ந்தனர் முனிவர்.

மனைவியரின் இழி நிலை கண்டதும்
மன மயக்கம் நீங்கினர் முனிவர்கள்.

பெண்ணைக் கண்டு தாம் மயங்கியது போல்
ஆணைக் கண்டு அவர்களும் மயங்கினர்!

“நிறை அழிந்த நீங்கள் உயிர் விடுங்கள்!
பிற ஊர்களுக்குச் சென்று விடுங்கள்!”

தெளிந்த பின் திரும்பினர் பெண்கள்
களிப்பின்றித் தம் இருப்பிடங்களுக்கு!

6#13f. The anger of the sages.

The children born out of the graceful glance of Siva worshiped him.

Siva told them, “Do penance concentrating on me!”

The wives of the rushis followed Siva as if in a trance.

Mohini also followed Siva. The rushis followed Mohini.

When they saw the sad plight their wives were in, the rushis became very angry.

They had fallen in Love with Mohini.

In the same way their wives had fallen for the mendicant.

They spoke to their wives with anger,

“You have lost your chastity! Either kill yourselves or return to your parents”

The wives came out of their trance and returned to their homes.
 
6#13g. முனிவரின் வேள்வி

சீலம் பறி போன முனி புங்கவர்கள்
சினம் கொண்டனர் சிவபிரான் மேல்!
இழிந்த வேள்வி ஒன்று புரிந்தனர்.
எழுந்தது கொடும் வரிப் புலி ஒன்று!

இடிபோல உறுமி வந்தது அது.
கொடிய சினம் கொண்டது அது.

“சிவனைக் கொன்று வா! ” என ஏவ
சிவன் புலியைக் கொன்று விட்டார்!

வரிப் புலியின் அழகிய தோலை
உரித்து உடையாக உடுத்தார் சிவன்.

முத்தலைச் சூலம் தோன்றியது ஒன்று!
முக்கண்ணன் மீது ஏவினர் முனிவர்;

முத்தலைச் சூலத்தைப் பற்றிய சிவன்
அத்தைப் பணித்தார் “எம் படையாகுக!”

மான் கன்று தோன்றியது வேள்வியில்;
மண்ணுலகம் கண்டதில்லை அதுபோல!

விண்ணில் பாய்ந்து செல்ல வல்லது!
மண்ணுலகப் பொருட்களை அழித்தது.

சிவன் மேல் செலுத்தினர் மான் கன்றை;
சிவன் அதை ஏந்தினார் தம் கரத்தில்.

சிவனை அழிக்க ஏவிய பூதப்படையை
சிவன் மாற்றி விட்டார் தம் படைகளாக.

வெண்தலை ஒன்று வேள்வியில் வெளிப்பட,
வெண்ணீற்று ஈசன் அணிந்தான் சடைமேல்.

மறைகளை எல்லாம் ஒன்றாக்கினர் முனிவர்.
மறைகள் மாறின ஒலிக்கும் உடுக்கையாக!

உலகம் செவிடாகும்படி ஒலித்துக் கொண்டு
நிலவணி பிரானை நெருங்கியது உடுக்கை.

“செவியின் அருகே நின்று ஒலிப்பாய்!எனச்
சிவன் பணித்தான் மறை உடுக்கையினை.

6#13g. The yaaga of the sages.

The rushis who had lost their integrity became very angry with Siva. They performed a mean yagna to destroy Siva.

A ferocious tiger emerged from the yagna. It was ordered to kill Siva but Siva killed it instead. He tore off the skin of the tiger and wore it as a dress.

A trisoola emerged from the yagna. It was aimed at Siva. Siva caught hold of it and ordered it,”Become my weapon!”

A deer emerged from the yagna. It was unknown to the world. It could jump through the sky. It destroyed the things on earth. It was sent to kill Siva. Siva caught hold of it in one of his hands.

An army of demons emerged from the yagna. Siva made it his own army.
A skull emerged from the fire. Siva wore it on his matted coils.

Then rushis made the Vedas into a damroo (udukkai) and set it on Siva. The damroo made a deafening noise and came near Siva.

Siva ordered the damroo made of Veda,”Be near my ear and keep chanting the Vedas”.
 
6#13h. முயலகனும், தீயும்

முனிவர்கள் பின்னரும் உணரவில்லை
குனித்த புருவக் கொவ்வைச் செவ்வாயனை.
மீண்டும் செய்தனர் இழிந்ததொரு வேள்வி.
மண்டும் தீயுடன் எழுந்தான் முயலகன்.

“ஆற்றல் கெடுத்து அழியுங்கள் சிவனை!”
சீற்றத்துடன் நெருங்கினர் சிவபெருமானை.

தீயை ஒரு கரத்தில் ஏந்தினார் சிவபிரான்;
திருவடியை ஊன்றினார் முலயகன் மேல்.

அழிக்கவே முடியாத சிவன் மீது முனிவர்
“அழிக!” எனச் சாபங்கள் பல இட்டனர்.

ஆபத் பாந்தவனை அனாத ரக்ஷகனை
சாபங்களால் என்ன செய்ய முடியும்?

திருவடியின் கீழே கிடந்த முயலகன்
திரும்பவும் தலை எடுத்து அசைக்க,

பெருமான் அவன் உடல் மீது நடிக்க;
பேருலகங்கள் அனைத்தும் நடுங்க;

தாருகாவன முனிவர்கள் கலங்க;
பேருவகை கொண்டானர் தேவர்கள்.

திருக்கூத்தை ஒழித்தார் சிவபெருமான்.
தாருகாவன முனிவர்களுக்குப் பிரான்

பேரருளுடன் தந்தார் நல்லறிவினை.
பொறுத்தருள வேண்டினர் முனிவர்கள்

“முறைப்படி ஒழுகுவீர்!” என உரைத்துத்
திருக் கயிலை திரும்பினார் சிவபிரான்.

6#13h. Muyalagan and the Fire.

The rushis did not understand the greatness of Siva even then.
They did one more mean yagna.

Muyalagan emerged along with the burning fire.
They were ordered to destroy Siva and went near him.

Siva caught hold of the fire in one hand and planted one foot on Muyalagan.
The rushis cast many curses on Siva that he should be destroyed.
The curses had no effect on the merciful god.

Muyalagan tried to move under Siva’s feet.
Siva started dancing on him. The worlds trembled.

The rushis were helpless now. The devas became very happy.
Siva stopped dancing and blessed the rushis with true knowledge.

The rushis fell at Siva’s feet and begged for pardon.
Siva blessed them and said, “Follow the Vedas!”
He then returned to Mount Kailash.
 
6#13i. யானை உரி அணிதல்.

யானை வடிவ அசுரன் கொடிய கயாசுரன்;
மோனத் தவம் செய்தான் மேருவின் மீது.
தன் மனம் அவன் தவத்தால் கனிந்ததும்
நான்முகன் வினவினான்,”என்ன தேவை?”

“அழியாத ஆற்றலை விழைகின்றேன்!
கழியாத வாழ்நாளை விழைகின்றேன்!”

நகைத்த நான்முகன் இதைச் சொன்னான்,
“நான் தந்தேன்! சிவன் முன்பு செல்லாதே!”

வரங்கள் கிடைத்ததும் மனம் மாறிவிடும்;
வரம்பு மீறுவதும், வாட்டி வதைப்பதும் என.

விண்ணுலகில் இந்திரனை வென்றான்;
விண்ணுலகை அடித்து நொறுக்கினான்.

எடுத்தான் ஐராவதத்தின் வாலைப் பற்றி;
அடித்தான் சுழற்றித் துன்பம் தரும்படி.

அஷ்ட திக்கு பாலகர்களைத் துரத்தினான்;
அசுர, மனித குலத்தை வாட்டி வதைத்தான்;

நஞ்சுக் காற்றுப் போல் எங்கும் பரவினான்;
அஞ்சிய முனிவர் அடைந்தனர் காசியை!

கெஞ்சினர் ஈசனிடம் காத்தருள வேண்டி!
கொஞ்சமும் அஞ்சாது வந்தான் காசிக்கு

மறந்தானோ நான்முகன் ஆணையை?
துறந்தானோ? அறிகிலோம்! உரப்பினான்.

6#13i. The elephant hide.

Gajamukaasuran was elephant faced. He did severe penance on Mount Meru.
When Brahma was pleased with the penance he appeared and blessed the asuran.

“What is that you wish for?” asked Brahma.
“I seek unlimited powers and unending life span!”

Brahma laughed and replied,
“You shall have them but do not go in front of Siva!”.

Boons boost the evil nature in people’s minds. Gajamuka asuran got intoxicated bu these rare boons.
He defeated Indra and destroyed his city

He tortured both the asuras and men. He lifted Airawat by its tail, swirled it and hit it on the ground!
He chased the eight dig palakaas. He spread everywhere like the poisonous fumes.

The frightened rushis ran to Kasi and sought he protection of Lord Siva.
The asuran forgot Brahma’s advice and followed the ruhis to Kasi.
He stood there and made a very loud noise.
 
6#13j. கயாசுரன் முடிவு

காசியில் உரப்பினன் கயமுக அசுரன்.
விசுவநாதரிடம் சரண் புகுந்தவர்களை
அழிப்பதற்கு விரைந்தவன் மறந்தான்
அழிந்துபோகும் தன் ஆற்றல் என்பதை.

கொடிய நெடிய வடிவெடுத்தார் ஈசன்;
முடி அடைந்தது உலகின் உச்சியை!

கோடி சூரியர்களின் ஒளி வீசியதால்
வடிவைக் காணவும் இயலவில்லை!

நான்முகன் உரைத்ததை மறந்த அசுரன்
மேன்மை அழிக்கும் சிவனுடன் பொருத,

உதைத்தார் ஒரு திருவடியால் பிரான்!
உருண்டு விழுந்தான் தரையில் அசுரன்.

ஒரு பதம் வைத்தார் தலையின் மீது!
ஒரு பதம் வைத்தார் தொடையின் மீது!

கை நகங்களாலேயே கிழித்து எடுத்தார்
மெய் வருந்தாமல் கயாசுரன் தோலை.

பேரொளியால் உலகத்து உயிர்கள்
கண்ணொளி மங்கித் துயருற்றன.

உரித்த தோலை எடுத்துப் போர்த்தி
உடலின் ஒளியை மறைத்தார் ஈசன்.

6#13j. The end of Gajasura.

Gajamuka asuran made a loud noise. He was keen on destroying the people who had taken refuge in Kasi.
He forgot Brahma's warning not to go in front of Siva.

Siva took a huge and terrifying form. His head reached the sky. He was as brilliant as ten million Suns shining together. The people were blinded by that brilliant light.

Gajamukha asuran forgot Brahma's warning and fought with Siva. Siva kicked him with one leg making the asuran roll on the ground.

Siva planted a foot of the head and the other on the thigh of the asuran. He tore off the thick hide of the Gajamukha asuran with his bare nails. To give relief to the people blinded by the brilliant light of his form, Siva covered himself with the elephant hide.
 
6#13k. கபாலம் ஏந்தியது

திருமாலும், நான்முகனும் இருந்தனர்
மேருவின் கொடுமுடியில் முன்னாள்.
முனிவர்கள் வினவினர் இருவரிடமும்
“முழு முதற் கடவுள் யார் என்று கூறும்”

மாயையின் வசப்பட்ட மாலும், பிரமனும்
“யாமே முழு முதற்கடவுள்” என்றனர்.

“படைக்கும் கடவுள் நானே பெரியவன்”
படைத்தவன் உன்னை நானே அறிவாய்!”

போரிடலாயினர் கருத்து மாறுபாட்டால்;
“யார் பெரியவர்?” என்ற பிரச்சனையால்!

போரை மூட்டியவர் கலைந்து சென்றனர்.
நேரே வந்தனர் உருமாறிவிட்ட இருவர்.

பிரணவமும், மறையும் அங்கு வந்தன.
“பிரானே முழு முதற்கடவுள்!” என்றன.

இருவரின் மோதலை விலக்கி விடத்
திருவுளம் கொண்டார் சிவபெருமான்.

பேரொளி ஒன்று தோன்றியது அங்கு!
பேரொளியில் மயங்கி நின்றது உலகு.

ஒளியினில் ஈசனை உணர்ந்த மால்,
ஒழித்து வணங்கினார் மனமயக்கம்.

மயக்கம் நீங்காத நான்முகனோ எனில்
தயக்கம் இன்றியே இகழ்ந்தான் ஈசனை.

6#13k. The skull.

Brahma and Vishnu were seated on mount Meru. Some rushis asked them,” Who is the supreme god?”
Overcome by Maya each of these gods claimed that he was the supreme god.

Brahma said, “I am the creator!”
Vishnu said, “I created you remember?”

They could not come to a conclusion and started fighting between themselves.
The rushis who had caused this rift went away. Two things came there disguised. They were the Vedas and the Pranava. They both said that Siva was the supreme God.

Siva decided that it was time to put a full stop to this mindless fighting between Gods. He appeared as huge beam of light there. Vishnu recognized that it was Siva himself. He came out if his delusions and worshiped Siva. Brahma did not come out if his delusion. He continued talking ill of Siva and Vishnu.
 
6#13 L. கபாலம் ஏந்தியது

பெருமான் படைத்தார் வயிரவரை.
பெருமான் பணித்தார் வயிரவரை,
“நான்முகனின் உச்சித் தலை இன்று
நம்மை மிகவும் இகழ்ந்து பேசியது.

அந்தத் தலையை நீ கிள்ளி எடு!
அவனுக்கு மீண்டும் உயிரைக் கொடு!

செல்வாய் முனிவர், தேவரிடம்;
கொள்வாய்க் குருதியை ஐயமாக.

இறந்தவர் உயிரை மீட்டுக் கொடு!
பிழைத்தவர் ஆணவம் மாற்றிவிடு!

இருப்பாய் உனக்கு அமைத்த இடத்தில்!
இரட்சிப்பாய் நீ மனிதரை, தேவரை!”

ஒளியில் மறைந்து அருளினார் ஈசன்;
ஒளியும் மறைந்து போனது பின்னர்.

திருமால் திரும்பினர் தம் இருப்பிடம்.
பிரமனின் கதையோ வேறு விதமானது!

பிரமனின் உச்சித் தலையைக் கிள்ளி,
வயிரவர் ஏந்தினர் தம் கரங்களில்.

இறந்து கீழே விழுந்தான் நான்முகன்;
குருதிப் பெருக்குச் சூழ்ந்தது உலகை!

நெற்றிக் கண்ணில் தீயை உண்டாக்கி
வற்றச் செய்தார் குருதிப் பெருக்கை.

நான்முகனுக்குக் கொடுத்தார் உயிர்.
நான்முகனுக்குத் தந்தார் நல்லறிவு

வேண்டினான் பிரமன் பிழை பொறுத்திட,
வேண்டினான் பிரமன் தலையை ஏந்திட.

குருதிப் பலியை ஏற்ற வயிரவர்
இறுதியாக அடைந்தார் இருப்பிடம்.

6#13L. The skull in the hand.

Siva created Bhairavar. He ordered him,”Brahma’s topmost head spoke ill of me today. Puck that head off but bring him back to life. Go to the rushis and Devas. Receive Blood as the bali. Bring back to life whoever dies but kill their pride. You live in the place allotted for you and continue save the humans and the Devas”.

Siva disappeared into the beam of light. Later the beam of light also disappeared. Vishnu returned to his abode. But Brahma’s fate was different.

Bhairavar plucked off the topmost head of Brahma and he dropped dead. The flow of blood filled the wold. Bhairavar opened his fiery third eye and made the blood flow dry up. He brought back Brahma to life. He gave good sense to Brahma.

Brahma begged for pardon and requested Bhairavar to carry his skull. After receiving blood and the bali, Bhairavar returned to his abode.
 
6#13m. வேற்றுரு

இந்திரன் சென்றான் திருக்கயிலை
இந்து அணிந்த பிரானை வழிபட.
ஆணவம் ஓங்கி வளர்ந்திருந்தது
அவன் கோவிலை அடைந்தபோது.

பூதக் கோலம் பூண்டு வாயிலில்
பூத நாதன் சிவனும் நின்றான்.

வேற்றுருக் கொண்ட சிவபிரானின்
மாற்றத்தை அறியவில்லை இந்திரன்

“பார்த்ததில்லை உன்னை! புதியவனா?
பார்க்க வேண்டும் பெருமானை நான்!”

பதில் கூறவில்லை புதிய காவலன்!
மதியாதது கண்டு பொங்கியது சினம்.

குலிசப் படையை எறிந்தான் இந்திரன்
குலிசம் உடைந்தது சுக்கு நூறாக!

சிவன் எடுத்தார் ருத்திர ரூபம்.
சினம் கொண்டு உரப்பி நின்றார்.

சீற்றம் கண்டு நடுங்கினான் இந்திரன்
ஆற்றல் அழிந்து அடியில் விழுந்தான்.

“மாயையை அறியவல்லேன் அடியேன்!
நாயினும் கடையேனை மன்னியுங்கள்!”

சினத்தை எடுத்து வீசினர் மேற்கே!
சினம் தணிந்தார் சிவபெருமான்.

6#13m. The disguise.

Indra went to Kailash to worship Siva. He was in one of his proud moods. Siva stood disguised as a demon guarding Kailash. Indra spoke to him arrogantly, “Are you new to this place? I have never seen you before. I want to meet Siva!”

The new guard did not reply. Indra became very angry by being slighted thus. He threw his kulisam on the guard. It promptly broke into a hundred pieces. Siva now took the form of Rudra.

Indra got scared and fell at his feet begging pardon for his ignorance and arrogance. Siva took out his anger and threw it to the west. He became free of anger thus.
 
6#13n. சலந்தரன்

கடலில் விழுந்த சிவனின் சினம்
உடனே மாறியது ஒரு குழவியாக!
எடுத்து வளர்த்தான் அதைக் கடலரசன்
கெடுத்தது அக்குழந்தை அமைதியை.

அழுகுரல் கேட்டு வந்த நான்முகனின்
மடியில் கிடத்தினான் அதை வருணன்.

நான்முகனின் நான்கு தாடிகளையும்
நன்கு பற்றிக் கொண்டு உறங்கியது!

“சிவபெருமானின் சினத்தில் தோன்றிய
இவன் வணங்கான் ஒரு கடவுளையும்!

மேன்மைகள் பெற விரும்பான் இவன்!
மேலான போர் வீரனாகத் திகழ்வான்!

நெடுங்காலம் உயிர் வாழ்வான் இவன்.
கொடுங்கோல் ஆட்சி புரிவான் இவன்!”

சிவனால் மட்டுமே அழிவுண்டு – வேறு
எவனாலும் அழிவில்லை இவனுக்கு.

சலந்தரன் எனப் பெயரிட்டான் பிரமன்;
சலந்தரன் வளர்ந்தான் மிகச் செல்லமாக.

வளர்ந்தபின் இணைந்தான் அவுணருடன்;
அளவில்லாத கொடுமைகள் புரிந்தான்.

திக்குகள் அனைத்தையும் வென்றான்;
திக்கற்ற தேவர் ஒளிந்தனர் மேருவில்.

சாலந்தரம் என்னும் நகரை அமைத்து,
சலந்தரன் புரிந்தான் கொடுங்கோலாட்சி.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.



 
6#13n. Jalandaran.

Siva’s anger thrown out in the west fell in the sea and became a male child. Varuna adopted the child as his own. The child kept on crying disturbing the peace of the worlds. Brahma visited Varuna. The child was laid on his lap. It held on tightly to the beards in all the four faces of Brahma and slept soundly.

Brahma prophesied the child’s future.”Born out of Siva’s anger, this boy will never worship any God. He will not strive for greatness through penance. He will be a good warrior. He will live long and be a tyrant ruler. None but Siva can destroy him.” The child was named as Jalandran.

When he became an adult he joined the side of the asuras. He conquered all the four directions. He became a merciless tyrant. The Devas were driven out of swarga and took refuge in Mount Meru. He made the city Jaalandram as his capital and ruled his country.
 
6#13p. சலந்தரன்

சலந்தரன் மணந்தான் விருத்தையை,
காலநேமி அவுணன் பெற்ற மகளை,
குலகுரு சுக்கிரரின் ஆணைப்படி,
குலமும் குடியும் மனமகிழும்படி!

அஞ்சினர் உலகினர் அவனைக் கண்டு!
தஞ்சம் அடைந்தனர் தேவர் மேருவில்!

போர்புரிய விழைந்தான் தேவருடன்;
போர் புரியச் சென்றான் மேருமலை.

திருமாலைத் தொழுதனர் தேவர்கள்;
திருமால் விரைந்தார் கருடன் மீது!

இருபதினாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் புரிந்தார்
திருமால் அவுணனுடன் கடும்போர்.

வெல்ல முடியாத அவன் ஆற்றலைச்
சொல்லால் புகழ்ந்து திரும்பினர் மால்.

அஞ்சிய தேவர்கள் அகன்று சென்று
தஞ்சம் அடைந்தனர் கயிலை நாதனை.

அஞ்சி ஒடுபவரைத் துரத்திச் செல்பவரும்
கெஞ்சுபவரை மிஞ்சுபவரும் உண்டே!

கயிலை மலையை அடைந்தான் அவுணன்;
கயிலை நாதனைத் தொழுதனர் தேவர்கள்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
 
6#13p. Jalandaran.

Jalandran married Brinda-the daughter of asuran Kaalanemi-as advised by his kulaguru Sukraacharya,
much to the delight of his kith and kin. He was invincible. The human shuddered at his thought. The Devas had gone into hiding in mount Meru.

He wanted to defeat the Devas. He went to Mount Meru. Devas prayed to Vishnu-who appeared promptly on his garuda vaahana. A fierce battle ensued for 20,000 years. Vishnu was not able to defeat Jalandran. He went back after praising the valor of Jalandran.

Now the Devas shifted to Kailash and sought the protection of Siva.
Jalandran chased them and reached Kailash. The Devas prayed to Siva.
