2 # 41. அஜமுகி அரற்றுதல்.

அத்தாணி மண்டபத்தை அடைந்தவுடன்
கத்தி அழலானாள் அசுரமன்னன் தங்கை.

"என்னைக் காத்துத் திரிவேன் என்றாயே!
என்னைக் கை விட்டு விட்டாயே தாயே!"

ஆபத்துக்கு உதவாத சகோதரர் எதற்கு?
ஆண்மையின்றிச் சிலையென நின்றீரே!

இந்திரன் மீன் சுமந்து திரிகின்றானாம்.
இந்திரனின் ஏவலாள் செய்தது காணீர்!

கதிரவனைக் கைப்பற்றிக் கட்டிப்போட்ட
அதிசய மருமகனே என் நிலையைப் பார்!

மாலின் ஆழியை அணிகலன் ஆக்கியவா!
மாதின் கை வெட்டுண்டது அறியாயோ?

முனிவன் பிழைத்திருக்கின்றான் இன்னும்,
தனித்தே என் மகன்களை அழித்த பின்னும்!

நல்லாட்சி நடத்துகின்றாய் அண்ணா நீ!
பொல்லாத உயிர் இனி எனக்கெதற்கு?

அவமானமே என்னைக் கொன்று விடும்.
எவர் முகத்திலும் இனி விழிக்கமாட்டேன்!'

அரற்றிக்கொண்டு துன்முகியுடன் சென்று
புரண்டாள் அண்ணன் கால்களில்விழுந்து!

2 # 41. AJAMUKHI WAILS!

The moment the asura women reached the durbar of Soorapadman, Ajamukhi started wailing loudly.

"Oh my mother Maya! You promised me that you will always take care of me. But you have forsaken me now!

What is the use of brothers who do not rush to save their sister in a crisis?

You ridicule that Indra is carrying fish but his servant dared to severe our hands!

Oh my wonderful nephew! You arrested the scorching sun while you were yet a small child! Did you see my plight!

Dear brother Taarakaa! You made the discus of Vishnu an ornament around your neck. Don't you know what has happened to me?

The rushi who killed Vaatapi and Vilvalan is still alive! You rule too well Oh dear brother! I will rather end my worthless life. I can't face anyone now and my sense of shame tortures me."

Ajamukhi and Durmukhi fell at the feet of Soorapadman and wailed loudly.

2 # 42a. சூரபத்மனின் சினம்.

அஞ்சினர் அவையோர் அஜமுகியின்
அலங்கோல அரற்றலைக் கண்ணுற்று!

அண்ணின் கண்களில் தீப் பொறிகள்;
உண்மையைக் கூறும்படிக் கோரினான்.

"உன் கையை வெட்டியது யார் கூறு!
இன்னமும் அவன் பிழைத்துள்ளானா?"

"அயிராணி தவம்செய்து தனியிருந்தாள்.
மயிலாளை உனக்கென எடுத்து வந்தேன்.

தேவன் ஒருவன் விரைந்து தோன்றினான்.
காவலனாம் அவளுக்கு! என்கை போயிற்று!"

சூரனின் சீனத்தீ சுடர்விட்டு எரிந்தது!
ஆறாத கோபத்தால் விழிகள் சிவந்தன.

நாசி துருத்தியாகி வீசியது உஷ்ணக்காற்று.
நாவும் கனன்று புகையைக் கக்கியது.

இடியொலியென ஆர்ப்பரித்தான் அவன்!
இரு புருவங்கள் நெறித்தன, துடித்தன.

நறநறவென்று பற்களைக் கடித்தான்;
நாற்றிசைகளும் உடன் நடுங்கலாயின!

தேவர்கள் அஞ்சினர், பிறகு ஏங்கினர்;
தேவர்களின் இருப்பிடங்கள் நடுங்கின.

மலைகள் எல்லாம் நிலை குலைந்தன.
மண்ணும். விண்ணும் எதிரொலித்தன.

கடல்நீர் கொதித்துக் கொந்தளித்தது;
சுடர்விட்டு எரியும் சூரனின் சினத்தால்.

2 # 42a. Soorapadman's anger.

The asuras in the durbar were scared by the wailing of the asura women. Soorapadman's eyes burned like live coals.

"Tell me the truth! Who has cut off your hand? Is he still alive?" He demanded Ajamukhi!

"Indraani was doing penance all by herself. I tried to bring her as a gift to you. Suddenly a Deva protecting her appeared and cut off our hands!"

Soorapadman's anger knew no bounds now. His nose bellowed out hot breaths. His mouth frothed fire. He made a thunderous uproar. His eyebrows became crooked. He bit his teeth in terrible anger.

The four directions started shivering. So also the devas. The mountains shook! The earth and the heaven echoed the sounds. The sea water boiled over and everything was disturbed by his anger.

2 # 42 b. சூரபத்மனின் சினம்.

அனைவரையும் அழிக்க விரும்பினான்
அண்டங்களின் அதிபதி சூரபத்மன்.

தம்பியரிடம் சினத்துடன் சீறினான்,
"நம்முடைய ஏவலால் மீன் பிடித்துவந்த

இந்திரன் மண்ணுலகில் வாழ்கின்றான்;
தந்திரமாக இவர்கள் கையை வெட்டினான்.

இனி மனிதரும் நம்மை எதிர்ப்பார்கள்;
தனித் தன்மையை இழந்து விட்டோம்;

பிரானும் அல்லவாம், திருமாலும் அல்ல.
பிரமனும் அல்ல, இந்திரனின் ஏவலாள்.

முன்னமேயே சிறை செய்து அவர்களைத்
தண்டிக்காமல் விட்டது தவறாக ஆயிற்று!

இந்திரனைத் தேடிச் சென்ற தூதுவர்கள்
எந்த உலகில் தேடிக்கொண்டுள்ளார்கள்?

நீங்களும் இருந்து, நானும் இருந்து என்
இந்திரஞாலத் தேரும்இருந்து என்ன பயன்?

தங்கையின் அவமானம் நம்முடையது!
தாங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பது ஆண்மையா?"

2 # 42B. SOORAPADMAN'S ANGER.

Soorapadman wanted to destroy everything and everyone.

He hissed to his brothers,

"Indra used to bring fish for us. Now he has gone into hiding. He had our sister's hand cut off. Now even mortal men will start revolting against us.

It was not Siva, nor Vishnu nor Brahma that cut off the hand but a mere servant of Indra. We should have imprisoned Indra when we had the chance. Where are the spies who went looking for them?

What is the use of us or of my chariot - if we just put up with the insult inflicted upon our dear sister?"

2 # 42c. பானுகோபன்.

சூரபத்மனின் சொற்களைக் கேட்டதும்
வீரமகன் முன் சென்று வணங்கினான்.

"இந்திரன் நம் ஏவலைச் செய்துவந்து,
இளைத்து, அஞ்சி, ஒளிந்து திரிகிறான்.

கள்ளமற்ற எளிய தேவர்களோ எனில்
உள்ளத்திலும் எண்ணார் இச் செயலை.

அத்தையின் கை வெட்டுண்ட மாயம்
சித்தத்தைக் குழப்புவது உண்மையே!

தேவர்களில் ஒருவன் செய்தான் என்று
தேவை இல்லாமல் பழி சுமத்துகிறோம்.

ஆண்மையின்றி மீன் பிடிப்பவர்களிடம்
அண்டர்கோனின் இச்சினம் தேவையா!

கைகள் வெட்டப்பட்ட இடத்துக்குக்
கடுகிச் செல்லுகின்றேன் இப்போதே!

மையலை ஊட்டிய அந்தத் தையலையும்,
தையலின் கணவன் இந்திரனையும்,

கைகளை வெட்டியவனையும் பிடித்து
ஐயனே உம் முன் நிறுத்துகின்றேன்!

அகப்படாதவாறு அவர் மறைந்து போனால்
சுகப்படாதவாறு எரிப்பேன் சுவர்க்கத்தை."

2 # 42c. Bhaanukoban.

After hearing the angry words of Soorapadman, his valorous son Bhaanukoban stepped forward and spoke to his father.

"Indra is frightened, famished and is hiding himself from us. The devas are too simple to conceive such a complex scheme. It is really a puzzle as to how my aunt's hand got cut off.

We are blaming the devas without any proof. The wretched devas do not deserve your wrath. I will go immediately to the spot where the incident happened and find out all about it.

I will arrest Indra, and the person who dared to cut off aunt's hand and bring them to you along with the celestial beauty Indraani".

2 # 42 d. கை வளர்ந்தது!

சூரபத்மன் கட்டளை இட்டான் ஏவலாளரிடம்,
"பிரமனை விரைந்து அழைத்து வாருங்கள்!"

பவ்வியமாக வந்த பிரமன் சூரபத்மனுக்குப்
பஞ்சாங்கத்தைக் கூறத் தொடங்கினான்.

"நான்முகனே! நீயே படைப்பின் கடவுள்!
நன்றாக வளரச் செய் இவர்கள் கைகளை!"

இருவரின் கரங்களும் உடனே வளரலாயின
சுறு சுறு வென்று முன்பு இருந்தது போலவே!"

அஜமுகி தங்கிவிட்டாள் அரண்மனையில்;
துன்முகி செல்லவேண்டும் பாபுகோபனுடன்;

விடை பெற்றுக்கொண்டு வீரமகன் சென்றதும்
படைவீரரிடம் ஆணை இட்டான் சூரபத்மன்.

கதிரவனைத் திங்களை விண்மீன்களுடன்
விதித்தான் தன்னிடம் உடன் அழைத்துவர.

"விண்ணுலகில் சுற்றிச் சுற்றி வருவது
மண்ணுலகத்தை நோக்கிய வண்ணமே.

என் தங்கையின் கையை வெட்டுவதை
ஏன் கண்டும் காணாமல் இருந்தீர்கள் ?"

"எங்கள் தொழிலில் கவனமாக இருந்தோம்;
நாங்கள் அறியவில்லை நடந்த கொடுமையை!"

உள்ளதை உள்ளபடிக் கூறிய போதும் அதைக்
கள்ளத்தனம் என்று எண்ணினான் சூரபத்மன்.

உடனே அனைவரையும் சிறையில் இட்டான்
தொடங்கினான் அடுத்த கட்ட விசாரணையை.

2 # 42 d. The hands grew back!

Soorapadman ordered that Brahma must be brought there immediately. Brahma started reading the panchaangam.

Soorapadman stopped him and said, "You are the God of creation. Let their cut hands grow back as they were before!"

The cut hands started growing back fast. Ajamukhi stayed back in the palace. Durmukhi would go with Bhaanukoban.

Soorapadman ordered that the sun, the moon and the stars be brought before him. He spoke to them,

"You roam in the high sky but you always see towards the earth. Why did you not interfere and stop my sister's hand being cut off?"

"We were paying attention to our scheduled duties and did not see the atrocity when it happened!"

Soorapadman did not trust them and so threw them all in the prison. He then started the next round of punishments.

2 # 42e. தண்டித்தல்.

"இங்கு அழைத்து வாருங்கள் எங்கும்
தங்கு தடையின்றித் திரியும் வாயுக்களை!"

வந்து சேர்ந்தனர் மருத்துக்கள் அனைவரும்.
வாய் பேசாது மெளனமாக நின்றனர்.

"நீங்கள் இல்லாத இடமே இல்லை - என்
தங்கையை ஏன் காப்பாற்றவில்லை?"

யாதும் பதில் கூறவில்லை வாயுக்கள்
யாவரையும் சிறையில் இட்டான் சூரன்.

ஆண்டு, திங்கள் முதலிய தேவதைகளைக்
கண்டதும் சிறையில் இடச் செய்தான்.

மண்ணக வேந்தர்கள் வந்து குவிந்தனர்.
"மண்ணுலகில் மறைந்துள்ளான் இந்திரன்;

என் தங்கை கையை வெட்டும்போது
என்ன செய்துகொண்டு இருந்தீர்கள்?

கள்ளுண்டு மயங்கி உறங்கினீரா?
காமத்தில் மயங்கித் தியங்கினீரா?"

"அன்னையை ஒத்த அஜமுகி இங்கே
மண்ணுலகுக்கு வந்ததை அறிந்திலோம்!

இந்திரன் இங்கே ஒளிந்து திரிவதை
இக்கணம் வரையில் யாம் அறிகிலோம்."

மன்னர்கள் கூறியதை நம்பாமல்
தண்டிக்கத் தொடங்கினான் சூரபத்மன்,

சில மன்னர்கள் நாவு அறுபட்டனர்!
சிலர் மூக்குச் செவிகளை இழந்தனர்;

சில மன்னர்கள் தலை அறுபட்டனர்.
சில மன்னர்கள் கைகள் அறுபட்டனர்.

சில மன்னர்கள் தாள்கள் அறுபட்டனர்,
சில மன்னர்கள் தோள்கள் அறுபட்டனர்.

2 # 42 e. The punishments.

"Bring the winds which flow freely everywhere" Soorapadman commanded his soldiers. All the forms of wind (maruththukkal) were brought there and they stood silently.

"You have access to everyplace. Why didn't you help my sister when her hand was cut off?"

The maruththukkal remained silent. Soorapadman threw them into the prison.

Next was the turn of the angels of Time like the year, month etc. They too were thrown into the prison.

All the kings of earth were called to assemble. Soorapadman spoke to them,"Indra is hiding on the earth. When he had my sister's hand cut off, what were you doing- sleeping intoxicated or enjoying the intimacy of women?"

The kings replied,"We were not aware of mother Ajamukhi's visit to the earth, nor are we aware of Indra hiding here".

Soorapadman did not believe them. He punished them severely. Some kings had their tongues cut off. Some others had their nose and ears cut off.

Some kings list their heads and some others their hands. Some kings lost their shoulders and some others their feet.

2 # 42 f. சிறை நீக்கல்.

பலருக்கும் பலவித தண்டனைகள்
கலங்காமல் விதித்தான் சூரபத்மன்.

எல்லோருக்கும் விடை தந்துவிட்டு
செல்லலானான் தன் மாளிகைக்கு.

துணிவினைத் திரட்டிக்கொண்ட பிரமன்
பணிவுடன் பகர்ந்தான் சூரபத்மனிடம்.

"கதிரவன், திங்கள் முதலியவை இன்றி
கதிகலங்கிவிடும் உலகு இதை மறவாதே!

காலக் கடவுளர் நடப்பார் உன் சொற்படி.
உலகம் நடைபெற உடனே விடுதலை செய்"

நான்முகன் சொற்களில் உள்ள உண்மையை
நன்கு புரிந்து கொண்டான் சூரபத்மன்.

சிறைவிடுபட்ட தேவதைகளிடம் கூறினான்;
"மறந்துவிடாதீர்கள் என் சொற்படி நடக்க!

இந்திரனுடன் சேரக் கூடாது நீங்கள்
எந்தக் காரணத்துக்கும், எப்போதும்!

உங்கள் தொழிலைச் செய்து வாருங்கள்.
உங்கள் தலைவன் நான்! மறவாதீர்கள்."

2 # 42f. Releasing from the prison.

Soorapadman had inflicted punishment on everyone around him without any hesitation. He then left the durbar and was about to go to his palace.

Brahma gathered all his courage and spoke to him,
"The world will not be able to function without the help of the sun, the moon and the angels of Time. They will remain faithful and obedient to you. Release them from the prison immediately"

Soorapadman understood the truth in Brahma's words. He released the sun, the moon and all the angels of Time and told them sternly,

"Remember to obey me. Never associate with Indra for any reason. Mind your business and remember I am your king now!".

2 # 43 a. பானுகோபன் புறப்பாடு.

சூரபத்மனிடம் விடை பெற்றுக் கொண்டபின்
வீரன்பானுகோபன் சென்றான் மாளிகைக்கு.

ஆயுத்தங்கள் செய்தான் போருக்குச் செல்ல.
ஆயுதங்கள் அனைத்தும் தயார் நிலையில்.

சூடினான் அழகிய தும்பைப்பூ மாலைகள்.
ஏறினான் பாய்மாக்கள் பூட்டிய தன் தேரில்.

நால்வகைப் படைகளும் உடன் நடந்தன.
கால் பட்டுப் புழுதி மறைத்தது நகரையே.

வளர்ந்தன அவுணர்களின் தோள்கள்.
தளர்ந்தன தேவர்களின் மனங்கள்.

சீகாழியைச் சென்றடைந்தது படை .
பூம்பொழிலைக் காட்டினாள் துன்முகி.

"இதுதான் எங்கள் கைவெட்டுண்ட இடம்.
இதில் இருந்தனர் அயிராணியும்,தேவனும்.

நுழைந்தான் சோலையில் பானுகோபன்.
நுழைந்தது சோலையில் நால்வகைப் படை.

சோலையில் காணவில்லை எவரையுமே!
சோலை மிதிபட்டுப் பாலை போலானது.

நிலவுலகு எங்கும் தேடினர் பின்னர்
நிலவு திரியும் விண்ணுலகு ஏகினர்.

படையுடன் பானுகோபனைக் கண்டு
உடன் சென்று உரைத்தனர் செய்தியை.

எண்ணாதவற்றை எண்ணி உள்ளம்
புண்ணான தேவர்கள் ஜெயந்தனிடம்.

2 # 43 a. Bhaanukopan leaves on his mission.

Bhanaukoban took leave of Soorapadman and went to his palace. He made the preperations to leave on his mission. He got his weapons ready. He wore the garlands of Thumabi flower and climbed on his chariot fitted with the fastest steeds.

The chaturanga sena marched along with him. The dust storm raised by the marching army hid the capital city.
The asuras were growing stronger by the minute and the devas grew weaker by the moment.

The army reached Seekaazhi. Durmukhi showed the garden where Indraani and the devan were last seen.

They entered the garden and reduced it to a wasteland but could not find Indra or his wife or the devan. They searched all over the earth and then went to the heaven.

The spies rushed to Jayanthan and informed him of the marching army of Bhaanukoban. All the devas were worried about the outcome of the war with the marching army.

2 # 43 b. ஜயந்தனும், தேவர்களும்.

செய்தி கேட்டுத் துன்புற்றான் ஜயந்தன்,
"தாய் தந்தையர் இருக்குமிடம் அறியேன்!

நலம் கூறி அறிவுறுத்த நம்முடைய
குலகுரு வியாழபகவானும் இல்லை.

நம்மைத் துன்புறுத்தவே வந்துள்ளான்
நால்வகைப் படைகளுடன் இவன்.

புகலிடம் எதுவும் இல்லை நமக்கு,
புகலிடம் தேடும் எண்ணம் இல்லை.

வருந்தி வாடப் போவதும் இல்லை!
வருவதை யாரால் தடுக்க முடியும்?

புறமுதுகு இடப்போவதும் இல்லை.
திறலழிந்து சரண் புகுவதும் இல்லை.

வெற்றி அல்லது வீரசுவர்க்கம் எனது.
அசுரர்களுடன் நான் போர் புரிவேன்

அஞ்சுபவர்கள் விட்டுச் செல்லலாம்!
கொஞ்சமும் கவலை இல்லை எனக்கு!"

"அவர்களுக்குத் தொண்டு புரிவதிலும்,
அவர்களுடன் பொருதலே மேலானது!

விரைந்து செல்வோம் போர்க்களம்!"
ஐராவதத்தை எண்ணினான் ஜெயந்தன்

நினைத்த மாத்திரத்தில் நின்றது எதிரே.
அனைத்து தேவர்கள் உடன் சென்றனர்.

பானுகோபன் படைக்கு முன் சென்று
சேனையுடன் நின்றது தேவர் குழாம்.

2 # 43B. JAYANTHAN AND THE DEVAS.

Jayanthan got very upset on hearing the news.

"I do not know where my parents are now! Our kulaguru is not around to guide us. Bhaanukoban wants to destroy us.

We have no asylum. We are not seeking any asylum.
I am not going to worry about the outcome of the war.

I will not run away from it. I am not going to surrender. Either victory or the swarga of the valorous warriors will be mine.

Anyone who is afraid to fight the auras can safely leave now."

"We will rather fight those asuras than serve them doing menial jobs! Let us go to the war front right now."

Jayanthan thought of the Airaavataa and it stood in front of him. Each deva got into his vimanam and they all went to the war front ready to fight the asura army.

2 # 43 c. தேவ அசுர யுத்தம்.

போருக்கு வந்து நின்ற தேவர்களை
நேருக்கு நேர் கண்டு வியந்தனர்.

"ஏவல்கள் செய்து பிழைத்தவர்கள்
எதிரே நிற்கின்றார்கள் போருக்கு!"

கடும் போர் தொடங்கியது அங்கு,
கொடும் அவுணர் தேவர்களிடையே.

விடுத்தனர் வலிய படைக்கலன்களை
அடுத்து அடுத்து இருபடையினரும்.

தேவர்கள் திரல் அழிந்து போயினர்;
தேவர்களைப் பிடித்துக்கட்டினர் அசுரர்.

நாண் ஒலி எழுப்பினான் ஜயந்தன்;
கணை மழை பொழிந்தான் ஜயந்தன்.

நூறு வெள்ளம் அவுணர்கள் அழிந்து
ஆறாகப் பெருகியது அவர்கள் குருதி.

நீலகேசன் எதிர்த்தான் ஜயந்தனை.
நீலகேசியின் கவசம் அறுபட்டது.

ஜயந்தனின் வில் நாண் அறுபடவே
மாயப் போர் புரியலானான் அவன்.

மாயை நீக்க இயலாத அவுணர்கள்
பேயைக் கண்டது போல் ஓடினர்.

படைத்தலைவர் ஒன்றாக முயன்றும்
உடைக்க முடியவில்லை மாயையை.

2 # 43 C. THE DEVA ASURA YUDDHAM.

The asuras were surprised to see the devas in the war front.

"They were saving their skins doing menial jobs for us. Today they have dared to come to the war front!"

A fierce battle started between the asuras and the devas.
But the devas were much weaker than their enemies.

Soon all the devas were bound and Jayanthan was the only one left to fight the asuras.

He started showering arrows from his bow. One hundred veLLam of the asura army was vanquished by him and their blood started flowing like a river.

Neealkesan dared to fight Jayanthan, but his armor was damaged. Jayanthan's bow string got cut and he resorted to a war using maya techniques.

The asura could not come out of the his maya and started running away madly. All the generals of the asura army tried together to destroy the maya created by Jayanthan but failed miserably.

2 # 43 d. பானுகோபனுடன் போர்.

ஜயந்தனின் வெற்றியைக் கண்டதும்
மாயப்போர் புரிவதை உணர்ந்தான்.

ஞான மந்திரத்தை நினைத்தபடியே
பானுகோபன் அவன் எதிரில் நின்றான்.

உடைபட்ட மாயைகள் விலகிவிட்டன.
படையின்றி ஜயந்தன் மட்டும் யானைமேல்!

விற்போர் மூண்டது இருவர் இடையே.
வில் முறிந்தது பானுகோபன் கையில்.

தேரும், பரிகளும் அழிந்து படவே;
வேறு தேரில் ஏறினான் பானுகோபன்

நூறு ஆயிரம் பாணங்கள் பறந்தன!
தாறுமாறாகத் தாக்கிக் கொண்டனர்!

குருதி பொங்க விழுந்தான் ஜயந்தன்;
பருகிய அமுதத்தால் உயிர் பிழைத்தான்.

வெள்ளை யானைக்குச் சீற்றம் பொங்கிக்
கொள்ளைக் கோபத்துடன் போரிட்டது.

தேரின் மீது பாய்ந்து அழித்துவிட்டது
தேரோட்டியை, குதிரைகளை எல்லாம்.

நிலத்தில் குதித்த அசுரன் மார்பில்
நான்கு தந்தங்களால் முட்டியது.

தந்தங்கள் முறிந்தன சடச் சடவென!
தந்த அறையில் தளர்ந்து விழுந்தது.

2 # 43 d. War with Bhaanukoban.

Bhaanukoban understood that Jayanthan was resorting to maya. He concentrated on the Gnaana manthram taught to him and stood in front of Jayanthan.

The maya vanished and he saw Jayanthan all alone on the white elephant. They fought with bows and arrows.

Bhaanukoban's bow broke. His chariot and horses also got destroyed. He climbed on to another chariot.

He shot a hundred thousand arrows at Jayanthan. He fell faint bleeding heavily. He remained alive since he had tasted the divine nectar.

Airavat got very angry and charged at Bhaanukoban. It broke his chariot and killed the horses. The aura was forced to jump on the ground. It attacked his chest with its four tusks.

But the tusks broke making a loud noise. Airaavat fell faint when the asura slapped it hard.

2 # 43 e. அவுணர்களின் அட்டகாசம்.

தனித்து விழுந்துகிடந்த ஜயந்தனையும்,
தளர்ந்த விழுந்துகிடந்த யானையையும்

கண்ட அவுணர்கள் பொங்கி ஆரவாரித்து,
கண்டபடி ஜயந்தனை வருத்தலாயினர்.

"முன்னமே தளர்ந்து போய் உள்ளான்;
இன்னமும் வதைக்காதீர்கள் அவனை!

தேடித் திரிந்து அஞ்சி ஒளிந்துள்ள பிற
தேவர்களையும் சிறைப் பிடியுங்கள்!"

அனைவரையும் பிடித்துக் கட்டினர்;
அனைத்தையும் எரித்து அழித்தனர்.

பொன் போலவே ஒளிர்ந்து எரிந்து
பொன்னுலகம் சேதமாகி விட்டது!

முன்னே சிறைக் கைதிகளை அனுப்பிப்
பின்னே நகர் திரும்பினான் பானுகோபன்.

"விண்ணவர்கள் இதோ நம்கைதிகள்!
விண்ணுலகம் எரிந்து சாம்பலானது!"

சூரபத்மனை வணங்கிக் கூறினான்;
சூரபத்மன் அழைத்தான் காவலரை.

"ஈவு இரக்கம் இன்றிச் சேதியுங்கள்
தேவர்களின் உடல் உறுப்புக்களை."

கைவலிக்க வெட்டினாலும் வளர்ந்தன
கை, கால்கள் மற்றும் தாள், தோள்கள்.

கொல்லவும் இயலவில்லை வெட்டித்
தள்ளவும் இயலவில்லை அவர்களை.

"விலங்குகள் பூட்டியபின் சிறையில்
விலங்குகள் போலப் பூட்டுங்கள்!"

சிறைப்பட்ட தேவர்கள் வருந்தினர்;
அடைபட்ட தம் நிலையை நொந்தனர்.

2 # 43 e. The atrocities of the asura.

The asuras shouted with delight when they saw Jayanthan unconscious and the elephant overcome. The started harassing Jayanthan.

Bhaanukoban told them, "Already he is very weak. Do not torture him. Now get hold of all the other devas who have gone into hiding!"

Everyone was rounded up and tied with ropes. The whole swarga was burned to ashes. The prisoners proceeded first and Bhaanukoban followed later. He told Soorapadman,
"I have destroyed the swarga. Here are the devas who are now our prisoners."

Soorapadman ordered his soldiers to chop off the body parts of the devas. But the parts regenerated and grew back as soon as they were cut off. The devas had tasted their share of nectar

"Oh! We can neither kill them nor disfigure them! Lock them up in the prison, after chaining them, so that they cannot escape!"

All the devas were locked up. They were steeped in self pity.

2 # 43 f. வியாழபகவான் உரை.

கொம்புகள் முறிந்த வெள்ளையானையும்
சம்புவை வழிபட்டது திருவெண்காட்டில்.

ஆகம முறைப்படி சிவனை வழிபடவே
வேகமாகக் கொம்புகள் வளராயின.

இந்திரன் சென்றான் விண்ணுலகுக்கு!
நொந்தான் தன் நகரின் அழிவு கண்டு!

மைந்தன் சிறைப் பட்டது கண்டு
மனம் உடைந்துபோனாள் அயிராணி.

கோரத் தவம் செய்யலுற்றனர் பொன்னிற
மேருவில் இந்திராதி தேவர்கள் குழாம்.

தவத்தை மெச்சிக் காட்சியும் தந்தார்
சிவபிரான் தேவர்கள் கண் முன்னே!

"சூரபத்மனை வேரோடு அழித்து
சுரர்களைக் காக்க வேண்டும் ஐயனே!"

"உமை மணந்து நான் பெறும் மகன்
உமது துயர்களைத் துடைப்பான்!"

திருமணத்தை விரைவு படுத்த எண்ணிக்
கரும்புவில் காமனைப் பரமனிடம் அனுப்ப,

நெற்றிக் கண்ணைச் சிவனார் திறக்கக்
குற்றமற்ற காமன் எரிந்து போனான்.
