VINAAYAKA PURAANAM 1


30b. காமதேனு

“மன்னனாலும் அளிக்க இயலாத உணவைச்
சொன்ன மாத்திரத்தில் அளித்தது எங்கனம்?

ஐயா! இது மந்திரமா? அன்றித் தந்திரமா?
மாயையா? அன்றிக் கண் கட்டு வித்தையா?”

“காமதேனுவை ஆராதித்து உணவைத்
தாமதம் இன்றித் தருவித்தேன் மன்னா!”

காமதேனுவை அடையவேண்டும் என்னும்
காமம் எழுந்தது கார்த்த வீர்யன் மனத்தில்.

“வனத்தில் பற்றை ஒழித்து வாழ்ந்திடும்
முனிவருக்குக் காமதேனு எதற்கு ஐயா?

அனைத்து உலகையும் ஆண்டுவரும் புவன
அதிபதியிடம் அன்றோ இருக்க வேண்டும்?”

“ஆசைக்கோர் அளவில்லை மன்னா! நாம்
நேசிக்கக் கூடாது பிறரது உடைமைகளை.”

“தந்தே ஆகவேண்டும் காமதேனுவை – பல
வந்தமாகக் கவர்ந்து செல்வேன் அன்றேல்!”

முனிவருக்குக் கோபம் மூக்குக்கு மேலே!
கனிவால் இயலாதது சினத்தால் இயலுமே!

“அதிதியாக வரவேற்று உணவு அளித்தேன்;
அதிகாரம் செலுத்த முயற்சி செய்கின்றாய்!

பலவந்தமாகக் கவர்ந்து செல்வாயா? உன்
பலத்தைச் சோதித்துப்பார் காமதேனுவிடம்!”

அரசன் உணரவில்லை தபோவலிமையை!
அரசன் ஆணையிட்டான் படை வீரருக்கு,

“கட்டி இருக்கும் காமதேனுவை அவிழ்த்து
இட்டுச் செல்வீர் நம் நாட்டுக்கு!” என்றான்.

30#b. Kaamadhenu

“How could you provide so much food fit for a king at such a short notice sire? Even a king won’t be able to do it so well. Is it a magic or a trick or an illusion or Maya?” the king Kaarthaveeryan asked the sage Jamadagni.

“I prayed and got the food from the divine cow Kaamadhenu” The sage replied. Kaarthaveeryan’s desire to possess the holy cow was kindled now.

“You are living in the forest as a tapapsvi away from the world. Of what use can this cow be to you? It should be in the possession of a king who rules over the world to be more useful” The king spoke to the sage.

“Desire has no limits oh king! One should not covet for the possessions of another person” the sage told the king.

“I must possess that cow Kaamadhenu. If you will not part with it on my request, I will take it away by force.” the king threatened the sage.

The sage became very angry now. “I invited you as my guest of honor and fed you and your soldiers good food. Now you are trying to take away my cow. Do you think you can take her away just by force? Match your strength against her to realize the truth”

Kaarthaveerayan did not realize the power of penance. He ordered his soldiers, “Untie the cow Kaamadhenu and take her to our country now”

DEVI BHAAGAVATAM - SKANDA 4

4#11c. இடையறாத இன்பம்

சுக்கிரன் கண்டான் ஜயந்தியை அருகினில்,
மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினான் அவளிடம்;

“கனிவோடு பணிவிடை செய்தாய் பல ஆண்டுகள்!
இனியவளே! கேள் நீ விரும்பும் வரம் தருவேன்”

“அறிவேன் நான் உம் தவ வலிமையினை!
அறிவல்லவர் நீர் என் கோரிக்கையை!” என,

“அறிந்து கொண்டேன் உன் மன ஓட்டத்தை!
தெரிந்து கொள்வேன் உன் வாய் மொழியாக.”

“அந்தணரே! இந்திரன் மகள் ஜயந்தி நான்;
வந்துவிட்டேன் உம் பத்தினி ஆவதற்கு .

தொண்டு புரிந்தேன் அன்பு கொண்டு.
உண்டாக்கியது காம விகாரத்தை அது.

பதிவிரதா தர்மப்படி கற்புடையவளாகப்
பதி உம்மிடம் நான் சுகம் பெற வேண்டும்!”

“இன்று முதல் பத்து ஆண்டுகள் நீ
என்னுடன் கலந்து சுகித்து இருப்பாய்!”

மணந்து கொண்டான் சுக்கிரன் ஜயந்தியை
மணவாழ்வு இனித்தது இருவருக்கும்

மாயையால் மறைத்தனர் உருவங்களை;
மயங்கி முயங்கினர் இன்ப வெள்ளத்தில்.

திரும்பி வந்த குருவிடம் வந்தனர் அசுரர்;
குரு மறைந்து உறைவதை அறியவில்லை.

ஆசிரியரைக் காணாமல் அலை பாய்ந்தனர்;
யோசித்தனர் குருவுக்கு என்ன ஆனது என!

4#11c. Nonstop indulgence

Sukran felt happy to see the beautiful Jayanti close by. He told her,” Dear girl! You have served me well for many years. Please say what you want from me. I shall not deny it from you whatever it may be!”

Jayanti replied coyly,’ “I know the power of your penance! Surely you must be already knowing what I want from you!” Sukran replied, “I do know it, but I want to hear it from you in your own words”

Jayanti said, ” I am Indra’s daughter Jayanti. I wish to become your lawfully wedded wife and enjoy the pleasures of marital life.”

Sukran was pleased with her and said, “I will marry you and we will enjoy the pleasures of marital life for ten years non stop.”

They married, made themselves invisible and immersed in the sea of carnal pleasure.

The asuras knew that their guru had come back with his mission accomplished. They went to his ashram but were unable to see him anywhere there.They grew worried as to what could have happened to their dear venerable guru.

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

15a. விஸ்வகர்மா.

“அழகிய ஒரு நகரை விரைந்து
அமைத்துக் கொடுப்பாய் எனக்கு!”

சூரனின் ஆணைப்படித் தச்சன்
சீரிய நகரை அமைக்கலுற்றான்.

நகரை அமைக்க உகந்த இடத்தைப்
பகர்ந்தார் அசுரகுரு சுக்கிராச்சாரியார்.

தென்கடலை அடைந்தான் விரைந்து!
எண்பதாயிரம் யோஜனை பரப்பளவில்,

கடலைத் தூர்த்தான் பெயர்த்த மலைகளால்!
ஆடகப் பொன்னால் அமைத்தான் மதில்களை.

நான்கு வாயில்கள், நான்கு கோபுரங்கள்,
நான்கு திசைகளிலும் பொலிந்து விளங்கின.

தெருக்கள், மாடங்கள், மாளிகைகள்,
அரங்குகள், மண்டபங்கள், சூளிகைகள்,

குன்றங்கள், சோலைகள், குளங்கள்,
மன்றங்கள் அமைந்தன அழகுற.

அந்நகரின் நடுவே அழகிய அரண்மனை,
அந்தப்புரம் , படைக்கலச் சாலைகளுடன்.

வீர மகேந்திரபுரம் என்ற சூரனின் நகரம்
விளங்கியது அகழியாகக் கடல் சூழ்ந்து.

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

2 (# 15 a). VISWAKARMA.

“Build me a city worthy of my position!” Soorpadaman commanded Viswakarma. Sukracharya suggested the ideal place to do it.

Viswakarma reached the southern sea. He levelled the sea floor with the plucked mountains and recovered an area of 80,000 joyanas.

The surrounding wall was made of pure gold. There were four entrances and four gopurams. The streets, multi storied houses, mansions, assembly halls, mandapam, gardens, ponds and stages were constructed.

In the center of the city stood a palace with a separate quarters for the royal women and a place to store the weapons of warfare.

30c. காமதேனு

கட்டியிருந்த காமதேனுவைக் கண்டனர்;
இட்டுச் செல்லும்படி அரசனின் ஆணை!

நெருங்கினர் பசுவை அவிழத்துச் செல்ல;
அருகில் வந்ததும் சிலிர்த்தது பசு உடலை.

சிலிர்த்த வேகத்தில் சிதறி விழுந்தனர்
பொலபொல வென்று நான்கு திசைகளில்!

படை மொத்தமும் வந்து விட்டது இப்போது;
படையுடன் பொருதத் தேவை ஒரு படை.

உடலைச் சிலிர்த்த பசுவிடம் படைவீரர்கள்
உற்பத்தி ஆயினர் அதன் மயிர்க்கால்களில்!

யுத்தம் செய்தனர் மன்னன் படைவீரர்கள்,
சித்தமான பசுவின் படை வீரர்களுடன்.

விநாயகர் தந்த வினோத அஸ்திரங்கள்
விநாசம் செய்யவில்லை பசுப் படையை!

தெய்வப் பசுப் படைவீரர்களிடம் தோற்று
செய்வதறியாமல் மயங்கினான் மன்னன்.

வெல்லவும் வழியில்லை தெய்வப் படையை,
செல்லவும் மனமில்லை தோல்வி அடைந்து!

வென்று பசுவை அடைய முடியாததால்
கொன்று பழி தீர்க்க எண்ணினான் அவன்.

எஞ்சிய வீரருடன் நாட்டுக்குத் திரும்பினான்,
வஞ்சக எண்ணங்களை நெஞ்சில் நிறைத்து!

தவத்தில் அமர்ந்திருந்த ஜமதக்னி முனிவரின்
தலையைச் சீவி வீழ்த்தினான் கார்த்தவீர்யன்!

தடுக்க ஓடி வந்த ரேணுகா தேவி மீது,
அடுத்தடுத்துச் செலுத்தினான் சரமழை!

VINAAYAKA PURAANAM 1.

#30c. The War

The soldiers saw Kaamadhenu tied up in the ashram. The king’s order was to untie her and take her to his capital. When the soldiers moved closer, the cow bristled up its hair. This force was enough to throw the soldiers off their feet all around her!

Now the whole army moved in to deal with the cow. To fight an army the cow needed an army of her own! She produced an armed soldier from each of her hair follicle. Soon there was an army big enough to fight with the king’s army.

The asthrams given by Vinayaka to Kaarthaveeryan could not harm the soldiers produced by Kaamadhenu.

The king’s army was easily defeated by the army of the cow. The King became very angry since he could not defeat the cow’s army nor accept his defeat and go away. He decided to avenge his shame very soon and returned to his country with the soldier still left alive.

Soon he returned to the ashram. Sage Jamadagni was doing penance. Kaarthaveeryan chopped off his head and made it roll on the ground.

Renuka Devi was shocked and came running to her husband. She was pierced by a shower of arrows from the king’s bow and fell down in agony.

4#11a. ஜயந்தி

தலை அறுபட்டுத் தன் மனைவி கோரமாகத்
தரையில் கிடப்பதைக் கண்டார் பிருகு ருஷி.

சீறி எழுந்தது சினம் அவரது சிரம் வரையில்!
சீறினார் வெஞ்சினத்துடன் விஷ்ணுவிடம்,

“செய்யக் கூடாதது என்று அறிவாய் – ஆயின்
செய்துவிட்டாய் பிராமண ஸ்திரீயின் ஹத்தி.

இல்லை இதை விடக் கொடிய பாவம் ஒன்று!
இல்லை இந்தப் பாதகத்துக்கு மன்னிப்பு என்று!

பிறப்பாய் பல இழிந்த யோனிகளில் சென்று;
இறப்பாய் இது போல் துஷ்டத்தனம் செய்து.

சத்துவ குணவான் என்று தத்துவம் பேசினால்
உத்தமனாக ஆகி விட மாட்டாய் நீ ஒன்றும்.

மண்ணுலகத்தில் எடுப்பாய் பல பிறவிகள்!
பெண்ணின் கர்ப்பத்தில் வாசம் செய்வாய்!”

இல்லறம் என்னும் நல்லறத்தை அழித்து
பொல்லாத இழிவை அடைந்தார் விஷ்ணு!

தலையைச் சேர்த்து வைத்தார் உடலுடன்;
தவ வலிமை மீது ஆணை இட்டார் பிருகு.

விழுந்தன கமண்டல நீர்த்துளிகள் – உடனே
எழுந்தாள் மனைவி உயிருடன் மீண்டும்.

சினம் தணிந்து விட்டது பிருகுவுக்கு
சினம் தணலானது இந்திரனுக்கு!

கடும் தவம் செய்யும் சுக்கிரனுக்கு
அரும் சித்திகள் வந்து சேர்ந்துவிடும்.

கலைக்க வேண்டும் சுக்கிரன் தவத்தை
மலைக்க வைக்கும் மகளின் அழகால்.

4#11b. பணிவிடைகள்

பூரிக்கும் இளமையும், புன்னகை முகமும்
வாரிக் கொழிப்பவள் இந்திரனின் புதல்வி.

அழைத்தான் இந்திரன் தன் மகள் ஜயந்தியை;
“பிழைக்க உதவ வேண்டும் நீ தேவர்களுக்கு.

செய்கின்றான் கோரத் தவம் சுக்கிரன் பூமியில்;
செய்ய வேண்டும் நீ பணிவிடைகள் அவனுக்கு

பிரியமாக நடந்து கொள் தவ முனிவனிடம்,
உரிய பணிவிடையை விடாமல் செய்து வா.

பயம் நீங்கி தேவர்கள் வாழ்வதற்கு – அ
அபயம அளிக்க வல்லவள் நீயே! ”

தந்தையின் ஆணையை ஏற்றாள் ஜயந்தி
தவமுனிவன் ஆசிரமத்துக்குச் சென்றாள்.

அகோரத் தவம் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தான்
ஆகாரமாகப் புகையினை உண்டு சுக்கிரன்.

மெலிந்து இருந்த சுக்கிரனுக்கு – குருத்து
இலை கொண்டு விசிறினாள் ஜயந்தி.

தாக சாந்திக்கு தண்ணீர் கொணர்ந்து
தலை அருகில் வைத்தாள் அன்போடு.

சேகரித்தாள் தர்ப்பை, மலர்களை பூஜைக்கு;
சேகரித்தாள் இளம் தளிர்களை இளைப்பாற.

ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் உருண்டு சென்றன
ஆனந்தமாகக் காட்சி தந்தான் சிவபிரான்.

“எத்தனை மந்திரங்கள் எவரும் அறியாரோ
அத்தனையும் சித்திக்கும் முழுதாக உனக்கு.

ஆனாய் பிரமனுக்கு நிகரான பிராமணனாக,
ஆபத்து என்று எதுவுமே இல்லை உனக்கு!”

வரம் தந்தான் சிவபிரான் உளம் உவந்து.
சிரமத் தவம் தந்தது விழைந்த பலன்களை.

மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் கூறினான் அவளிடம்;

பதி உம்மிடம் நான் சுகம் பெற வேண்டும்!”

“இன்று முதல் பத்து ஆண்டுகள் நீ
என்னுடன் கலந்து சுகித்து இருப்பாய்!”

மணந்து கொண்டான் சுக்கிரன் ஜயந்தியை
மணவாழ்வு இனித்தது இருவருக்கும்

மாயையால் மறைத்தனர் உருவங்களை;
மயங்கி முயங்கினர் இன்ப வெள்ளத்தில்.

திரும்பி வந்த குருவிடம் வந்தனர் அசுரர்;
குரு மறைந்து உறைவதை அறியவில்லை.

ஆசிரியரைக் காணாமல் அலை பாய்ந்தனர்;
யோசித்தனர் குருவுக்கு என்ன ஆனது என!

4#11a. Jayanti

Sage Brugu flew into a temper when he saw his dear wife lying dead on the ground with her head severed by VishNu.

He took to task VishNu and told him, “You know that this action is not to be done by you and yet you have done his.

There is no greater sin than killing a Brahmin lady. There is no parihaaram for this kind of sin. You will take birth from several lowly yonis (birth canals). You will commit more sins and get punished more.

You may proclaim that you are filled with Satva guNaa but it will not make you an uththama purushan (holy person). You will take several births on the earth. You will grow in the wombs of women just as any normal human being.”

VishNu got cursed since he ruined the happy and harmonious life of sage Brugu with his wife.

Brugu kept the head of his wife along with her body. He swore on the power of his penance and sprinkled the holy water from his kamandalam on the body of his wife. She woke up from the dead as if from deep sleep.

Brugu’s anger vanished but Indra’a anger swelled up. Sukran who was doing severe penance would gain many new powers and use them against the Devaas. His penance should be disturbed at any cost. His own beautiful daughter Jayanti would be very useful for this mission.

4#11b. Service with a smile!

Indra’s daughter Jayanti was a beautiful young girl. Indra spoke to her and said, “You must save the race of Devaas from destruction. Sukran is doing severe penance on the earth. You must serve him with a smile and attend to his needs. Be kind to him!”

Jayanti agreed to do as told bynhim and went to ashram of Sukran. She saw Sukran doing a deep and difficult penance – living on the smoke emitted by the homa kundam.

She fanned him with the fresh, cool, young leaves. She kept fresh drinking water within his reach. She gathered the flowers and Kusa grass for the puja. Sh gathered young leaves to make a soft bed for him.

One thousand years rolled off in this manner. Siva appeared to Sukran and granted this boon,”Every mantra unknown to anyone will be known to you hence forth. There will no danger for you from anything or anyone!”

The difficult vratam and tapas had yielded the desired results.

15b. பிற நகரங்கள்.

ஏமபுரம், இமயபுரம், இலங்கைபுரம்,
நீலபுரம், சுவேதபுரம், அவுணர்புரம்,

வாமபுரம், பதுமபுரம், என்ற நகர்கள்
அமைந்தன அதன் எட்டு திசைகளிலும்.

அடைத்த இடத்தில் வடகடல் நடுவே
அமைத்தான் ஆசுரம் சிங்கமுகனுக்கு.

கடல்கள் தோறும், தீவுகள் தோறும்,
படைகள், சுற்றங்களுக்கு நகரங்கள்.

பொன்னிற மேருவின் தென் பகுதியில்
நாவலந் தீவின் ஏமகூட மலையில்,

மாயாபுரத்தை அமைத்தான் தச்சன்
மாயையின் மைந்தன் தாரகனுக்கு.

2 (# 15.b). THE OTHER CITIES.

Hema puram, Imaiya puram, Ilangai puram, Neela puram, Swetha puram, Avunar puram, Vaama puram, Pathuma puram, were the eight cities constructed in the eight direction of the Veeramahendra puram.

The northern sea was leveled and a grand palace was constructed there for Singa mukhan. Every sea and every island was utilised to build a city for a kin or kith of Soorpadman.

On the southern side of the golden hued mount Meru, in the Jambu dwipa, in the Hemakoota giri, the city Maayaa puram was constructed for Thaaraka asuran.

30d. பரசுராமன்

நைமிசாரண்யம் சென்றிருந்த ராமன்
அமைதியாகத் திரும்பினான் ஆசிரமம்.

உயிரற்ற தந்தையின் உடலையும் அருகில்
உயிருக்குப் போராடும் தாயையும் கண்டான்.

இடி ஏறுண்ட நாகம் போல நடுங்கினான்;
கொடிய செயல் யார் செய்தது?” சீறினான்!

“இருபத்தோரு அம்புகள் எய்தான் என்மீது;
உருட்டினான் தந்தை தலையைத் தரையில்!

இருபத்தோரு தலைமுறையின் தலைகள்
உருள வேண்டும் கீழே அதோ போலவே!”

“அரசர்கள் குலமே உலகில் இல்லாமல்
அழித்து விடுகிறேன் க்ஷத்திரியர்களை!”

தாய் தந்தையரின் சடங்குகள் செய்தான்
தத்தாத்திரேய முனிவரின் உதவியுடன்.

அன்னையைத் தன் மனதில் தியானிக்க
அன்னை தோன்றினாள் அவன் கண்முன்.

“சபதம் நிறைவேற வேண்டும் – கைலா
சபதியின் அருள் பெற வேண்டும் மகனே”

சிவனைத் தேடிச் சென்றான் கயிலை;
சிரம் தாழ்த்தி வேண்டினான் அருளை.

கற்றான் விநாயகர் ஷடாக்ஷரத்தை;
நிறைவேறும் சபதம் அவன் அருளால்!

மாயூரம் சென்றான் ராமன் மனதில்
தியானித்தான் விக்ன விநாயகரை.

கடும் தவம் புரிந்தான் நெடுங்காலம்
காட்சி தந்தார் சதுர் புஜ விநாயகர்.

“அழித்தான் இரக்கமின்றி பெற்றோரை!
அழிக்க வேண்டும் அவன் சந்ததியரை!

சபதம் நிறைவேற வேண்டும் – நான்
சாதிக்க வேண்டும் சூளுரைத்ததை.

பரசுவை தந்துவிட்டார் விநாயகர்;
பரசு ராமன் எனப் பெயர் இட்டார்!

வரம் தந்தார் வினாயகர் வெற்றிபெற;
சிரஞ்ஜீவித்வம் அளித்தார் ராமனுக்கு!

இருபத்தோரு தலைமுறை மட்டுமன்றி
அரச குலத்தையே அழித்தான் பரசு ராமன்.

VINAAYAKA PURAANAM 1

#30d. Parasu Raman

Raman had gone to NeimichaaraNyam when these atrocities took place. He returned to the ashram and was shocked to find the headless body of his father and his mother on the verge of death pierced by many arrows.

He shivered from head to foot in anger. He demanded to know who could do such a mean act. Renuka Devi lived long enough to speak to him. “King Kaarthaveeryan cut off your father’s head and made it roll on the ground. He shot twenty one arrows at me. You must make the heads of twenty one generations of his descendants roll on the ground.”

Raman promised his mother, “I will put an end to the race of Kshatriya in the world!” He performed the last rites of his parents with the help of sage Daththaatreya.

Raman sat thinking about his mother. She appeared in front of his eyes and reminded him of his oath. “You can fulfill your oath only if you get the grace of Lord Siva.’

Raman went to Kailash and prayed to Lord Siva. “I must fulfill my oath . Please help me o lord!” Siva taught him the shataakshara of Vinayaka and advised Raman to seek his blessings.

Raman went to Maayooram and did penance on Vinayaka for a long time. Vinayaka appeared to him with four hands. Raman told him,” King Kaarthaveeryan killed my parents mercilessly. I must avenge this by killing twenty one generations of his descendants.”

Vinayaka presented Raman with his parasu. He named him and Parasu Raman. He blessed Raman with chiranjeevithvam. Raman went on to haunt and hunt the Kshatriyas. He killed twenty one generations of Kaarthaveeryan’s descendants and many more kings and Kshatriyas besides.

4#11d. இந்திரனின் தந்திரம்

சுக்கிரன் மனோரம்மியமாக ஜயந்தியுடன்
சுகித்து இருப்பதை அறிந்தான் இந்திரன்.

தேவ குருவுக்குச் சொன்னான் விவரங்களை,
“தேவை ஒரு தந்திர நாடகம் அசுரர்களிடம்;

ஏமாற்ற வேண்டும் நீர் அசுரர் கூட்டத்தை;
காப்பாற்ற வேண்டும் நீர் அமரர் கூட்டத்தை.

அடி பணிய வேண்டும் அசுரர்கள் உமக்கு
அடி பணிய கூடாது அமரர் அசுரர்களுக்கு!”

கண்ணுக்குப் புலப்படாது சுக்கிரன் இருந்ததைக்
கண்டு கொண்ட தேவகுரு கொண்டார் உவகை!

தாங்கினார் அசுரகுரு சுக்கிரனின் உருவத்தை!
ஏங்கி நின்ற அசுரரிடம் சென்றார் தேவகுரு.

இந்திரனின் தந்திரத்தை அறியாத அசுரர்கள்
வந்து சூழ்ந்தனர் அவரை குரு என்று எண்ணி.

அசுர குருவென்று எண்ணி தேவகுருவை
அசுரர்கள் வரவேற்றுக் கொண்டாடினர்!

“தவம் செய்தேன் உங்கள் நன்மைக்காகத்
தலை கீழாக ஓராயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு.

மஹாதேவன் உவந்து எனக்கு அளித்துள்ள
மஹா மந்திரங்களை உபதேசிப்பேன் உமக்கு.”

மந்திர பலம் பெற்று வந்துள்ளார் குரு – இனி
இந்திரனுக்கு அசுரர்கள் அஞ்ச வேண்டாம்”

ஆனந்தக் கூத்தாடினார்கள் அசுரர்கள் – அவர்
அறியவில்லை இந்திரன் செய்த தந்திரத்தை.

4#11d. The treachery of Indra

Indra knew that Sukran was lost to the world in the loving company of Jayanti – his beautiful daughter He spoke to the Devaguru Bruhaspati and told him of another cunning scheme.

“You must go to the Asuraas disguised as their guru Sukran. You must make them obey your commands. The Deva must never be defeated by the asuraas. Only you can save the Deva from the newly acquired power of Sukran!”

Bruhaspati became very pleased to know that Sukran was lost to the world for ten long years. He disguised himself as Sukran and went meet the asuraas.

The ausraas had no idea of Indra’s treachery or the trick plyed by Bruhaspati. They assumed that it was their guru Sukran who had returned to them after getting the boons from Lord Siva.

The disguised Bruhaspati spoke as if he were Sukran to the asuras.”I did severe penance for your sake by hanging upside down and living on the smoke emerging from the yaaga kunda. I have learned the Mahaa mantraas due to the grace of Siva. I shall teach them to you now!’

Asuras were happy that Sukran had learned mantras unknown to anyone else.They danced, little realizing the treachery of Indra and Bruhaspati.

KANDA PURAANAM - ASURA KAANDAM

16. முடி சூடுதல்.

வீரமகேந்திரபுரத்தைக் கண்ட சூரன்,
வியந்து போற்றினான் விஸ்வகர்மனை.

சூரபத்மனுக்கு முடி சூட்டுவதற்குச்
சேர்ந்து வந்தது தேவர்கள் குழாம்.

அமர்த்தினர் சூரனை ஓர் இருக்கையில்.
அனைத்து தீர்த்தங்களால் முழுக்காட்டி,

பொன்னாடைகள் அழகுற அணிவித்து,
புனைந்தனர் பலவகை மலர் மாலைகள்.

அணிகலன்கள் பல அணிவித்தனர்;
அரியணையில், கொண்டு அமர்த்தினர்.

மணிமுடியை எடுத்த நான்முகன்,
அணிவித்தான் அதை சூரபத்மனுக்கு.

தேவர்களும், அவுணர்களும் வாழ்த்திட,
தேவாதி தேவன் ஆனான் சூரபத்மன்.

இந்திரன் ஏந்தினான் காளஞ்சியை;
ஏந்தினான் குபேரன் அடைப்பையை.

காற்றுக் கடவுள் வீசினான் சாமரம்
கதிரவன், திங்கள் குடை பிடித்தனர்.

இசை பாடினர் கருட கந்தர்வர்கள்,
இசைந்து ஆடினார் தேவ மகளிர்,

அவுணரும், முனிவரும் வாழ்த்துரைக்க,
எமனும், அக்கினியும் பிரம்பை ஏந்தி,

வந்திருந்த கூட்டத்தைக் கட்டுப்படுத்தி,
வரிசைப் படுத்தி ஒழுங்கு செய்தனர்.

வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.
