'7 மணி நேர நரகமாக மாறிய போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல்!' - ஃபேஸ்புக்கில் கொதிக்கும் சென்னைவாசிகள்

கடந்த 10 நாட்களாக தினமும் கொட்டிவரும் வடகிழக்குப் பருவமழை இதற்கு முன்பு சென்னையில் பெய்ததா என்பது சந்தேகமே. ஒட்டுமொத்த சென்னையே மழைநீரின் வடிகாலாக மாறிவிட்டதோ என்று கூறுமளவிற்கு உள்ளது.

மழை அவசியமான ஒன்றே... யாரும் மறுப்பதற்கில்லை. அதனால்தான் 'மா மழை போற்றுதும்....' என்றும், 'பெய்யெனப் பெய்யும் மழை என்றும்...' நமது இலக்கியங்கள் கூறுகின்றன. ஆனால் அளவுக்கு மிஞ்சிய மழை என்பது மக்களின் இயல்பு வாழ்க்கைக்கு குந்தகத்தையே ஏற்படுத்தும் என்பதிலும் மாற்றுக் கருத்தில்லை. அந்த நிலை சென்னைக்கு வந்துவிட்டதோ என்று எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது.
நிலைமை இவ்வாறு இருக்க, நேற்று(திங்கள்) பெய்த கனமழையால் சென்னை வாகன ஓட்டிகள் பட்ட அவஸ்தை, மாலை தொடங்கி இரவு முழுக்க நீடித்தது பெரிய துயரமே. அண்ணாசாலை, பாரிமுனை, நுங்கம்பாக்கம், பூந்தமல்லி நெடுஞ்சாலை, வடபழனி நூறடி சாலை, அடையாறு - திருவான்மியூர் சாலைகள் என்று மாநகரின் முக்கிய சாலைகள் அனைத்தும் மழைவெள்ளக்காடாய் மாறிப்போயின. அதே போல சென்னைப் புறநகர்ப் பகுதிகளும் இந்தத் துயரத்திலிருந்து தப்பவில்லை.

கடந்த இருதினங்களுக்கு முன்பே அதே இடத்தில் மின்சாரம் தாக்கி நாய் ஒன்று உயிரிழந்துள்ளது. அதுபற்றி அந்த பகுதிவாசிகள் புகார் அளித்தும் மின்வாரிய அதிகாரிகள் யாரும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவில்லை. இரண்டு அப்பாவிகளின் உயிர் போனபின்னர்தான் அவசரம் அவசரமாக மின்கம்பியை மாற்றியுள்ளனர். இந்த சம்பவத்திற்குக் காரணமான நால்வரை பணியிடை நீக்கம் செய்து உத்தரவிட்டுள்ளனர் மின்வாரிய அதிகாரிகள். மின்வாரிய ஊழியர்களின் அலட்சியத்தால் இரண்டு அப்பாவிகளின் உயிர் பலியாகியுள்ளது. பிஞ்சுக்குழந்தைகள் இருவர் அநாதைகளாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.

Rain continues to pound Tamil Nadu, Chennai's traffic bears the brunt

Chennaites were stuck in traffic in various areas like Mount Road, Vadapalani and OMR for hours in the evening.

The rain gods it seems are being too benevolent on Chennai city as heavy rains continued to batter the city on Monday leading to heavy traffic jams and water-logging. -

"Trench dug up to drain rainwater claims man’s life in Chennai

Forty-year-old S. Babu, an electrician, fell into a ditch, dug across Kamarajar Salai in R.A. Puram, for draining stagnant rainwater last Friday.

On Tuesday, when he died at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, the family was devastated. Babu has two children — elder son Udaya, who is studying class VIII and the younger one Surya in class III. His wife Karpagambal is unemployed.

Residents stage road-roko

Alleging negligence, some of the local residents staged a road-roko. “The ditch was dug some ten days ago to drain water and it was not barricaded properly. In fact, there was a big crater by the side of the road and many pedestrians were falling into it as it was covered with rainwater,” added a resident of a nearby apartment complex.

The relatives want the government to help the family.

This year seems to be the worst in terms of casualties, large scale destruction of tenements and inconvenience caused to public...A disaster was waiting to happen in Chennai on account of unauthorized constructions in lakes, ponds and temple tanks with the authorities showing scant regard for the violations...The calamity is caused by nature but our greed has accentuated the calamity...Hope we learn a lesson out of this

Now this is likely to be a yearly feature whether we like it or not.

We cannot keep on fixing the blame on state govt for all the ills of the city.

There are acts of commisson and omission over the last fifty years for all of which one person heading the state govt cannot be blamed.

The citizens are also willing parties to the actions of govts of several decades.Besides they kept electing them every five years. Everyone gets govt he deserves.

So many bought land/flats and built homes. Many were educated persons. Now when they were willing accomplices to destruction of city in their desire to own homes.

when disaster strikes , then they are quick to blame the govt.

Politicians are also people like us . It is just another profession like engineering or accounting. They have limited liabilities for actions during five years for which they

are elected. Their status is no better than contract employees . They have to go to people for fresh mandate every five years.

Both dravidian parties have reached out to people to the extent they could. If it had been bihar or assam , the fate of people would have been worser.So it would be

wise to count our blessings instead of indulging in blame game



How many regret their past actions and committing irregularities to own homes?

The rainy reason is only half over.

If corrective action is to be taken , half the city has to be destroyed and rebuilt.

Tamil Nadu municipal bodies unprepared for flood: Union ministers

Excerpts:


Chennai, Nov 21 (IANS) Looking at the ground situation in the flood-hit districts of Tamil Nadu, it was clear that the municipal administrations were not only unprepared to handle the condition but also found lacking in many aspects, union minister Pon Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.

Rain in the four districts of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore in the past 10 days has claimed around 150 lives though no consolidated official figures are available.

"While it cannot be disputed that heavy rains lashed some districts in Tamil Nadu, it was clear that the municipal administration in those districts have failed in managing the situation," Radhakrishnan said.

He said water-logging was still there in many areas for over a week and it was not known why the Chennai corporation or other municipal administrations have not risen to meet the situation.

சென்னையில் மீண்டும் படகுப் போக்குவரத்து(!) தொடங்கிவிட்டது. போதும் போதும் என்று மக்கள் சொன்னாலும், விடாது பெய்த அடைமழையால் மாநகரமே வெள்ளத்தில் மிதக்கிறது.

கூவம் நதிக்கரையோரத்தில் உள்ள குடிசைகள் முதல் சோழிங்கநல்லூர் எலைட் அடிக்குமாடி குடியிருப்பு வரை மழை வெள்ளம் சூழ்ந்துகொண்டு திரும்பிச்செல்ல மறுத்துவருகிறது. வீட்டுக்குள் முழங்கால் அளவு தண்ணீர், சாலையில் இடுப்பு அளவு தண்ணீர் எனச் சென்னைப் பிரதேசம் மிதவைக்குடியிருப்பாக மாறிப்போனது. மழை ஓய்ந்தாலும் துயரம் ஓயவில்லை. புறநகர் பகுதிகளான தாம்பரம், முடிச்சூர், பம்மல் போன்ற பகுதிகளில் தண்ணீர் இன்னும் வடிந்தபாடில்லை. அங்கொன்றும், இங்கொன்றுமாக இருப்பைக் காப்பாற்றிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ஏரிகள் அனைத்தும் நிரம்பியதால் மக்கள் ஏரியாக்களைவிட்டு காலிசெய்யும் நிலைமை.

The State Government is responsible to protect lives and property.

The Government, bureaucrats and the general public know pretty well what is ‘North East Monsoon’ and when it will set in Tamil Nadu and what are the preventive measures to be taken to avoid major disaster: They all have fair knowledge about natural calamity.

There are lot of preventive measures narrated in earlier posts, which will be normally planned at higher level Officers Meet every year before onset of the North East Monsoon' and get the approval and executed. This is a routine exercise.

If such measures were planned and executed well in advance, may be the loss of lives and property could have been avoided to certain extent and the hardship to the general public could also have been well mitigated.

The unpreparedness was already commented by media in general and by the former Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu more specific and the High Court has also goaded the Government machinery to 'awake' and swing into action.

Besides taking preventive measures, when there is disaster, the entire Government machinery will work on war foot level, round-the-clock and attend to rescue and relief measures in co-ordination with all the Departments viz. Chennai Corporation, Metro Water, Fire and Rescue Service, Police Department, Health, Transport, etc.

Member who has highly limited exposure to such exercises, come here to talk like an expert on the subject and pass senseless comments without realising the ground reality is utter disgust. lol

The lapses on the part of the Government and its preparedness, execution of Rescue and Relief measures and distribution of relief packages, etc are highlighted by the Media and this blind and loyal follower of the party is frustrated and is venting out his emotions repeatedly and in vain. May be he needs more rain on top of his own roof to realize the real situation.

We have Krishna at Delhi who is so anxious to enjoy rain.

Why trouble him to travel all the way from Delhi.

Instead of fighting with Varuna we may pray to change his direction towards Krishna.

That way, we are saved and Delhi Krishna may enjoy the rain to his mind, body and heart's content!

Let the Varuna fill Yamuna too.

Hope Vaigai also swells with heavy inflow.
