14. ஆலயங்கள்
வேடுவனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர் அனைவரும்;
ஓடத் தொடங்கியது பன்றி இருந்த புதரை விட்டு.
வளைந்து, நெளிந்து, புகுந்தோடி வெள்ளைப் பன்றி
நுழைந்து, மறைந்தது ஒரு புற்றுக்குள் திடீரென்று!
“மன்னா! நாங்கள் சொன்ன புற்றும் இதுவே தான்!” என்று
சொனார்கள் இடையர்கள் சோழ மன்னனிடம் அப்போது.
“ஹிரண்யாக்ஷன் பூமியை ஒளித்து வைத்த போது,
தரணியைக் காக்க வந்த வெள்ளைப் பன்றி இதுவே!
புற்றின் அடியில் இருக்க வேண்டும் பகவான் – நாம்
புற்றைத் தோண்டினால் தெரியும் உண்மை!” என்ற
வேடனைக் கடிந்து கொண்டான் சோழ வேந்தன்;
“வேறு வழியில் வெளிப்படுத்துவோம் இறையை!”
பால் குடங்கள் வந்து குவிந்தன அங்கே உடனே!
பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்தான் மன்னன் புற்றுக்கு.
கரைந்தது புற்று; கண்டனர் அதன் உள்ளே
இருந்தது ஆதி வராஹரின் அழகிய உருவம்!
பரவசம் அடைந்துக் கை தொழுது நின்றிருந்த
அரசனிடம் கூறினார் ஆதி வராஹப் பெருமான்.
“சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணியின் அருகே பகவான்
ஸ்ரீனிவாசன் உள்ளான் புளிய மரத்தின் கீழ்!
பூலோகம் வந்துள்ளான் பக்தருக்குஅருள;
புற்று மூடி விட்டது முழந்தாள் வரையில்!
ஆலயம் எழுப்பி ஆராதிப்பாய் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனை.
ஆலயம் எழுப்பு எனக்கும் மேற்குக்கரையில்.”
சென்றனர் அனைவரும் சுவாமி புஷ்கரிணி;
கண்டனர் ஸ்ரீனிவாசனைப் புளிய மரத்தடியில்.
புற்றுக் கரைந்து போனது பால் அபிஷேகத்தால்.
பூரணம் ஆனது பகவானின் திவ்விய தரிசனம்!
“திருமலையில் என்றும் இருந்திட வேண்டும்!”
திரும்பத் திரும்ப வேண்டினான் சோழ மன்னன்.
“திருக் கோவில்கள் அமைத்துத் திருப்பணி செய் !
தினமும் மூன்று காலமும் ஆராதனைகள் செய்!”
கண் கவர் ஆலயங்களை விரைந்து எழுப்பினான்.
விண்ணோரும், மண்ணோரும் வந்து தொழுதனர்.
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி
14. ஆலயங்கள்
வேடுவனைப் பின் தொடர்ந்தனர் அனைவரும்;
ஓடத் தொடங்கியது பன்றி இருந்த புதரை விட்டு.
வளைந்து, நெளிந்து, புகுந்தோடி வெள்ளைப் பன்றி

“மன்னா! நாங்கள் சொன்ன புற்றும் இதுவே தான்!” என்று
சொனார்கள் இடையர்கள் சோழ மன்னனிடம் அப்போது.
“ஹிரண்யாக்ஷன் பூமியை ஒளித்து வைத்த போது,
தரணியைக் காக்க வந்த வெள்ளைப் பன்றி இதுவே!
புற்றின் அடியில் இருக்க வேண்டும் பகவான் – நாம்
புற்றைத் தோண்டினால் தெரியும் உண்மை!” என்ற
வேடனைக் கடிந்து கொண்டான் சோழ வேந்தன்;
“வேறு வழியில் வெளிப்படுத்துவோம் இறையை!”
பால் குடங்கள் வந்து குவிந்தன அங்கே உடனே!
பால் அபிஷேகம் செய்தான் மன்னன் புற்றுக்கு.
கரைந்தது புற்று; கண்டனர் அதன் உள்ளே
இருந்தது ஆதி வராஹரின் அழகிய உருவம்!
பரவசம் அடைந்துக் கை தொழுது நின்றிருந்த
அரசனிடம் கூறினார் ஆதி வராஹப் பெருமான்.

14. The Temples.
The king went to Seshaachalam along with his ministers and courtiers The hunter came running to them and said, “If you come with me now, I will show you the wild boar, white in color!”
The king and the others followed the hunter. They saw a white boar run away from the bush it had been hiding in. It ran here and there and then disappeared completely after it entered into an anthill.
Now the cowherds told the king, “This is the anthill we were talking about o king!”
The hunter spoke now, “When HiraNyaakshan hid the earth in the paataala, it was this boar which protected and brought the earth up from there. If we dig under the anthill we may find something concrete.”
The king got annoyed at the crude method suggested by the hunter. He said, “We can bring out the hidden things by some better methods”. The cowherds bought pots and pots of milk.
The king poured them on the anthill one by one until the anthill dissolved to reveal the vigraha of Aadi Varaaha moorthy. The king went into ecstasy and the Bhagavan spoke to him now.
” Srinivaasan stands beneath the tamarind tree in Swami PushkariNi. An anthill is hiding him up to his knees. Build a temple for him. Build a temple for me in the western bank of the pond. ”
Everyone went to Swami PushkariNi. They saw Srinivaasan standing under the tamarind tree. Milk was poured until the full vigaraham emerged from the anthill. The Chozha king prayed to god, “You mast stay in Tirumala always.”
The king built temples for the two moorthis and arranged for regular pooja, aaraadhana and festivals. The temples were constructed exquisitely. Both Deva and manushya come there to worship the gods.

துடித்தனர் அனைவரும் வயிற்று வலியினால்;
துடிப்பான இளவரசி வந்தாள் தந்தையிடம்.
“ஒளிர்ந்தன இரண்டு மின்மினிகள் புற்றினுள்ளே;
ஒளியைக் குத்தினேன் கூரிய முள்ளின் முனையால்.
கத்தியது ஒரு குரல் புற்றுக்குள் இருந்து வலியுடன்;
ரத்தம் வழிந்தது புற்றிலிருந்த பொந்து வழியாக.
அஞ்சி ஓடி வந்துவிட்டேன் அங்கிருந்து விரைந்து;
கொஞ்சமும் அறியேன் நடந்தது என்னவென்று.”
புற்றை அடைந்தான் சர்யாதி மன்னன் விரைவாக.
சற்றும் தயங்காமல் விழுந்தான் கட்டாந் தரையில்.
“அறியாச் சிறுமி செய்து விட்டாள் ஒரு பெரும் தவறு.
பொருத்தருள வேண்டும் புண்ணிய சீலரே!” என்றான்.
“கோபம் கொள்வது என்னுடைய வழக்கம் அல்ல.
பாவம் என்ன செய்தேனோ தெரியவில்லை எனக்கு.
தீவினை வந்தது தேவி கொண்ட சினத்தால் போலும்!
தீராது என் துயரம் எல்லாம் வல்ல சிவத்தினாலும்!
கண்ணிழந்த நான் என்ன செய்வேன் இனிமேல்?
கண்ணாக இருந்து யார் பணிவிடை செய்வார்?”
“சங்கடத்தை விட்டு விடுங்கள் முனிவரே – இனித்
தங்களுக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்வர் பரிசாரகர்கள்.”
“ஏவலர் புரிவர் பணிவிடைகளைக் கடமையாக;
ஏவாமல் பணி புரிவர் அன்பு மனம் கொண்டவர்.
கன்னிகா தானம் செய்துவிடு உன் மகளை எனக்கு;
இன்னல்கள் மறைந்து விடும் தேவியின் அருளால்”

King Sharyaati and his retinue suffered from intense stomach pain and discomfort. Princess Sukanya came running to her father and said,
“I saw two fireflies inside an anthill. I tried to dislodge them with the tip of a thorn. I heard a cry of pain from inside the anthill and saw blood seeping out of a hole in the anthill. I got frightened and ran away from there immediately.”
The king rushed to the anthill and prostrated in front of it. He said ,”Oh sage! My young daughter has done you a great harm without realizing it. Kindly forgive her and pardon her sin.”
The sage replied,”It is not my custom to get angry with people. I must have committed some sin to deserve this pain. I think Devi is angry with me and is punishing me. In that case, even Siva can not save me. What shall I do now that I am blind? Who will help me in my old age?”
The king said, “I shall appoint responsible persons to take care of your every need”
But the sage said, “The servants will work for a salary but they will not show the same interest and care shown by our own kith and kin. Give your daughter’s hand to me in marriage. All your sins will be absolved and all your discomforts will vanish!”

14d. யானைமுகன் தவம்
அடைந்தான் மேருவின் சாரலை அவுணன்;
அமர்ந்தான் கோரத்தவத்தில் யானைமுகன்;
ஐந்தெழுத்தை நிறுத்தினான் நெஞ்சில்!
ஐம்புலன்களையும் அடக்கி விட்டான்.
பெருமானை மனத்தில் நிலை நிறுத்தி
அருந்தவம் செய்யத் துவங்கினான்.
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் இலையே உணவு;
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் தண்ணீரே உணவு;
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் காற்றே உணவு!
ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் மும்முறை செல்ல,
மூவாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் செய்த தவம்
மூலத் தீயை எழுப்பி வளர்த்தியது.
விந்து தானத்தில் அமுதம் பருகினான்
நொந்தனர் தேவர்கள் அவனைக் கண்டு.
ஐந்து நெருப்புகளுக்கு இடையே நின்று
சந்திர சூடனை எண்ணித் தவம் புரிய,
மனம் கனிந்தார் பெருமான் முடிவில்!
மனம் களிக்கும் வரங்கள் தந்தார்.
காய்ச்சி உருக்கிய இரும்பைப் போல்
மாய்ந்து விட்டன உடலின் குறைகள்.
காளை ஊர்தியின் மீது காட்சி தந்தார்,
“கேள் வேண்டிய மேன்மைகளை!” என,
“வெல்ல வேண்டும் தேவரைப் போரில்
செல்ல வேண்டும் என் ஆணை உலகில்.
இறவாத தன்மையை நான் பெற வேண்டும்
இறந்தாலும் வந்து பிறவாதிருக்க வேண்டும்!”
வாழ்க வளமுடன், விசாலாக்ஷி ரமணி.

6#14d. Gajamukhan’s penance.
Gajamukhan reached the Mount Meru. He sat in penance. He controlled all the five senses. He concentrated on the panchaakshara. He established Siva in his thoughts.
For thousand years he lived on leaves. For another thousand years he lived on water. For another thousand years he lived on air. The penance of these three thousand years awoke his kundalini shakti in moolaadhaara.
He guided it to the sahasraaraa and drank the nectar there. The Devas were frightened by the intensity of his tapas.
He stood amidst panchaagni and performed tapas concentrating on Siva. Siva was pleased with this sincere tapas and appeared on Nandhi Devan.
The defects in the body of Gajamukhan were purified by the tapas in the same manner iron is purified by heating it. Siva wanted to bestow boons on Gajamukha. His wished these,
” I must conquer Devas in a battle. The whole world must come under my control. I must become immortal. Even if I get killed, I should not be reborn!”

“இந்த நேரத்தில் இல்லை தரிசனம்.
ஏகாந்தத்தில் உள்ளார் இறைவன்;
போகவிட மாட்டேன் காண்பதற்கு!”
“என்னைத் தடுக்க முடியுமா உன்னால்?
எங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்கும் காற்று நான்!”
“விரிகிறேன் பாயாக இறைவனுக்கு;

ஈடு எவர் பக்தி செய்வதில் எனக்கு?
ஈடு எவர் சேவை செய்வதில் எனக்கு?”

பணியாள் நீ; சுதந்திரன் நான்;

“சோதிப்போம் யார் பலசாலி என்று!”
உரைத்தனர் இருவரும் தமது கட்சியை;
உன்னினார் இறைவன் மமதையை நீக்க.

Vaayu Devan retorted, “I am the one who keeps every living being alive. I surely have more bhakti, knowledge and power than you. I am my own master but you are no more than a personal servant”
Aadhiseshan got angry and challenged Vaayu Devan to take part in a contest to determine who among them was really stronger.

நடத்தினான் மந்திராலோசனை அமைச்சருடன்;

"சுகம் அடையவேண்டும் சகல உபாதைகள் நீங்கி.

தண்டனை அடைந்துள்ளீர்கள் அனைவருமே!
முனிவரின் மனம் குளிரும்படி பொறுப்பாகப்
பணிவிடைகள் செய்வேன் வருந்தற்க!" என்றாள்.
"குருவாக எண்ணிப் பணிவிடை புரியலாம்.
புருஷனாக எண்ணிப் பணி செய்வது கடினம்.
குலம், கோத்திரம், உருவம், பருவம் - உடல்
பலம் பொருத்தமாக இருப்பதும் அவசியம்.
நான் அழிந்தாலும் என் நாடே அழிந்தாலும்
நான் தரமாட்டேன் உன்னை முனிவருக்கு!"

King Sharyaati stood rooted to the spot with the shock of hearing the words uttered by the sage Chyavana. "Won't the world laugh at such a marriage? I can't give my pet, young and beautiful daughter to this blind and old ugly sage!"
He returned to his capital city with his retinue without giving his daughter to the sage Chyavana. He consulted his wise ministers. They all stood by his opinion and would not accept such a wedding.
Sukanya told her father,"I was the only one who committed a grave sin but the punishment has been given to everyone of us. You must all become free of this malady. I will serve the sage so well that he will be happy and pleased."
King Sharyaati said, "Serving the sage as if he were your guru is possible but it will be impossible to serve him after marrying him as a husband. For a succesful mariage the bride and the groom must be well matched in their race, Gothram, figure, form, age and physical strength.
I do not care if I get destroyed or even if my entire country goes to the dogs, but I will never get my daughter married to that sage!"

கண்டோர் வியக்கும் கொள்ளை அழகைக்
கொண்டு விளங்கியது மதங்க மாபுரம்.
விரும்பி மணந்து கொண்டான் அசுரன்
விசித்திர காந்தியை, அசுரேந்திரன் மகளை.
அவுணர்கள், தேவர்கள் வந்து வணங்கிட;
ஆணை ஏழு உலகங்களிலும் நடந்திட;
அரிய காமதேனு, சங்கநிதி ஏவல் செய்திட;
இறுமாப்புடன் கொடுங்கோல் புரிந்தான்!
தேவர்களிடம் ஆணையிட்டான் அவன்,
“திருமுன்பு வருமுன்பு செய்ய வேண்டும்,
தலையில் மும்முறை குட்டிக் கொண்டு
தாழ்ந்தெழ வேண்டும் இரு செவி பற்றி!”
பணிந்தெழுந்தது; பணிவிடை செய்தது;
துணிச்சல் இழந்துவிட்ட தேவர்கள் குழு.

Gajamukhan defeated Indra. He came back to earth. He wanted to rule from his capital city situated in the south. He ordered the asura carpenter. A new city Mathanga maapuram was constructed to suit his needs. It was a beautiful city.
He married Asurendran’s daughter Vichitra kaanthi. Devas and asuras worshiped him. He ruled over the worlds. He had at his beck and call all the riches of swarga. Kamadhenu and sankha nidhi obeyed him. He became a tyrant very soon.
He ordered the Deva, “When you come into my presence, you must rap gently on your temples thrice. You must catch hold of your ears and sit and get up alternately. The Deva dared not to disobey him.
They agreed to all these conditions. They worshiped him as suggested and served him well.

“தொண்டாற்றும் எனக்குச் சக்தி இல்லையாம்!
கொண்டாடுகின்றனர் அனைவருமே என்னை!”
“உனக்கு என்று சக்தி இல்லை அனந்தா – ஆனால்
தனக்கு என்று சக்தி உள்ளவன் வாயு தேவன்.
அனைத்து உயிர்களுக்கும் ஜீவாதாரம் வாயு;
அனைத்து இடங்களிலும் வியாபித்துள்ளான்.
சக்தி அதிகம் உடையவன் வாயு தேவனே!
சந்தேகம் வேண்டாம் உண்மையும் இதுவே!”
“சோதித்துப் பார்க்கலாம் இந்த உண்மையை;
பாதிக்காது நம்மை பலப் பரீட்சை!” என்றான்.
“மேருவை நான் கட்டிக் கொள்கிறேன் – வாயு
வேருடன் பெயர்க்கட்டும் முடிந்தால் அதனை.”

வாயு தேவன் முயன்றான் நகர்த்துவதற்கு;
வாயுதேவனின் முயற்சி வெற்றி பெற்றது.
வேருடன் பெயர்க்கப் பட்டது மேரு மலை!
வேறு இடத்தில் பறந்து சென்று விழுந்தது!
விழுந்த இடம் சுவர்ணமுகி தீர்த்தம் – அங்கு
விழுந்த சேஷன் மலையாகக் கிடக்கின்றான்!
சேஷகிரி ஆகிவிட்டது அந்த மலை – அதன் பின்
சேஷனின் கர்வம் சென்ற இடம் தெரியவில்லை.
நீராடினான் கோனேரித் தீர்த்தத்தில் ஆதிசேஷன்,
நாக தீர்த்தத்தை அடைந்தான் பிறகு சென்று.
தவம் செய்தான் தீவிரமாக நாராயணன் மீது;
தவம் பலித்து நாராயணன் தரிசனம் தந்தான்.
“மன்னித்து எழுந்தருள வேண்டும் என் மீது;
மக்களுக்கு என்றும் அருள் புரிய வேண்டும்;”
கோனேரியில் எழுந்தருளினான் ஸ்ரீநிவாசன்;
கோரிக்கையை நிறைவேற்றுகிறான் இன்றும்!

Lord Naaraayan replied. “He spoke the truth Anantaa! You have no power of your own but Vaayu has his own power. He keeps alive everyone and everything. He pervades everywhere. Surely he is more powerful than you.”
But Aadhiseshan would not accept this to be true – until it was proved to be true. He said, “A simple trial of strength will not hurt us and will bring out the truth. I will hold on to the mount Meru tightly and let Vaayu try to push it away with his strength. ”
Vaayu agreed to this. Aadhiseshan coiled himself round the mount Meru and held it down with all his might. Vaayu tried to blow it away . The mountain gave away and it got thrown off by the power of Vaayu.The mount Meru fell near Swarnamukhi theertham.
Aadhiseshan felt humiliated by his defeat and changed in to a mountain. It became the Seshagiri and his pride vanished like the dew drops in the morning sun.
He bathed in the Koneri theertham and went to the Naaga theertham. He did penance on Lord Naaraayan. When the lord gave him his darshan he prayed for a boon. “Pardon my ignorance and arrogance. Please reside on me and continue to bless your devotees”
The lord agreed and resided on the Seshagiri as Sreenivaasan. To this day he is blessing his all devotees and answering all their prayers.

நொடியில் மறைந்துவிட்டன உபாதைகள்!
விடை பெற்றுச் சென்றனர் பரிவாரங்கள்.
அணிகலன்களைத் தந்து விட்டாள் தந்தையிடம்;
அணிந்து கொண்டாள் மரவுரி, துளைசி மாலை.
இளமை சுகத்தை எண்ணவில்லை பெரிதாக!
வளமான வாழ்வை எண்ணவில்லை பெரிதாக!
"அருந்ததி வசிஷ்டரின் தர்ம பத்தினியாகி
வருங்கால சந்ததிக்கு வழிகாட்டுவது போலக்
கற்புடன் வாழ்வேன்; நற்பெயர் பெறுவேன்;
சற்றும் வருத்தம் இன்றிச் சென்று வாருங்கள்"

"The sage,lives all alone in a forest. I deprived him of his eyesight. So now it has become my duty to take care of him. I do not want all the people of our country to suffer on my behalf. I will protect my virtue and take good care of the sage."
Princess Sukanya was adamant and no amount of argument would change her mind.The King changed his mind since the princess would not change her mind. The people of that country were dazed to see the selflessness of the young princess.
They all went to the garden beside the pond one more time. King Sharyaati gave away his daughter to the rushi in marriage. Immediately all their discomforts and distress vanished!
Princee Sukanya gave back all her jewels to her father. She wore the maravuri and Tulasi maala the people living in vana vaasam used to wear.
Sukanya did not value the carnal pleasures above her duty. She did not value a prosperous life in the palace above her duty.
She told the king, "I shall live a chaste life and become an example for the human beings just as Aruntati has become by being the chaste wife of Vasishta."
The king was moved to tears and so also his citizens. But Sukanya consoled all of them as a rishi patni. They got consoled and returned to their capital city.

They all went to the garden beside the pond one more time. King Sharyaati gave away his daughter to the rushi in marriage. Immediately all their discomforts and distress vanished!
Princee Sukanya gave back all her jewels to her father. She wore the maravuri and Tulasi maala the people living in vana vaasam used to wear.
Sukanya did not value the carnal pleasures above her duty. She did not value a prosperous life in the palace above her duty.
She told the king, "I shall live a chaste life and become an example for the human beings just as Aruntati has become by being the chaste wife of Vasishta."
The king was moved to tears and so also his citizens. But Sukanya consoled all of them as a rishi patni. They got consoled and returned to their capital city.

பிரணவ எழுத்துத் தோன்றியது தேவிக்கு
இரண்டுருவாக யானை வடிவாக இணைந்து!
திங்களணிச் சடையும், மூன்று கண்களும்,
தொங்கும் வாயும், ஐந்து கரங்களும் கொண்டு!
யானை முகப் புதல்வன் தோன்றி விட்டான்
ஏனைய தெய்வங்களுக்குத் தலைவனாக!
அறிவுக்கு அறிவாகி எங்கும் நிறைந்தவன்;
அறிவுக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டு என்றும் நிற்பவன்.

One day Siva and Uma went to a mandapam filled with beautiful paintings. Uma watched the figure of an elephant emerge out of the pranava. A son appeared from that. He had crescent moon on his head, he had three eyes, five hands and a large hanging lip. An elephant faced son had emerged out of pranava.
He would become the leader of all the other gods. He would be the personification of knowledge but he himself would be beyond comprehension. He is the personification of mercy and the true meaning of the four Vedas. He paid obeisance to his parents and they blessed him.

“புண்ணிய தீர்த்தங்கள் அனைத்திலும்
புனிதமானவள் ஆக வேண்டும் நான்”
நதி வடிவாகி தியானித்தாள் சரஸ்வதி;
விதி விளையாடியது அவள் தவத்தில்.
புலஸ்தியர் வந்தார் சரஸ்வதி தேவியிடம்;
புலஸ்தியர் தன்னுடைய மகன் என்பதால்
உபசரிக்கவில்லை சரஸ்வதி சரியாக,
அபசாரமாகக் கருதிவிட்டார் முனிவர்.
“எல்லாத் தீர்த்தங்களிலும் சிறந்ததாகும்
பொல்லாத கனவு இல்லாது போகட்டும்.
அறிந்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் கூறுவார்,
திரிபததை தீர்த்தமே சிறந்தது என்பதை”
தடையானான் மகனே தவத்துக்கு;
உடைந்து போனாள் சரஸ்வதி தேவி.
“பரந்தாமனுக்கு எதிரியாக அசுரனாகப்
பிறவி எடுப்பாய் நீ!” என்று சபித்தாள்.
“சாப விமோசனம் எப்போது?” என்று
சாந்தம் அடைந்த புலஸ்தியர் கேட்டார்.
“ராமனாக அவதரிப்பார் நாரணன் – நீ
ராவணன் தம்பி விபீஷணன் ஆவாய்!
இறைவனின் நட்புக் கிடைக்கும் – அதனால்
சிரஞ்சீவியாக இருப்பாய் உலகில் என்றும்!”
கருடாரூடராக வந்தார் நாராயணன்;
“சிறந்த தீர்த்தமாக அனுகிரஹியுங்கள்!”
“புலஸ்தியர் சாபத்தால் கிடைக்காது அது!
புஷ்கரிணியாக வேங்கடத்தில் இருந்து வா!
லக்ஷ்மியும் நானும் வாசம் செய்வோம் – ஒரு
லக்ஷியத்துடன் உன் தீர்த்தக் கரையினில்!
நீராடுவர் பக்தர்கள் தனுர் மாதத்தில்,
சூரியோதயத்தில், சுக்கில துவாதசியில்.
பாவங்கள் தீர்க்கும் புஷ்கரிணியாகிப்
பாரினில் நீ விரும்பும் புகழ் பெறுவாய்!”
வேங்கடத்தில் ஸ்வாமி புஷ்கரிணியாகி
வேண்டிய மகிமைகள் பெற்றாள் சரஸ்வதி.

17. சரஸ்வதியின் தவம்

17. Saraswati Devi’s prenance
Saraswati Devi wished to become the holiest of all the holy theertams. She did penance in the form of a river. But fate smashed her dreams in a very strange manner.
Sage Pulastiyar came to visit her. The sage was one of the sons of Brahma. So Saraswati did not bother to welcome him as if he were a special guest. The sage felt humiliated and cursed her thus,
“You wish to become the holiest of all the holy theertams. But it will never be so. Everyone knows that the Tripadagai which flows down from the lotus feet of the lord is the holiest of all the holy waters. ”
Saraswati felt sad that her own son would curse her thus smashing all her dreams. She cursed him in return, “May you be born as an enemy of lord Naaraayan among the ausra.”
Now Pulastiyar felt remorse and calmed down. He begged for a saapa vimochanam. Saraswati Devi told him, “You will be born as a good asura and as VibheeshaNa the younger brother of RavaNa. You will form close friendship with the lord and You will become a Chiranjeevi”
Saraswati continued her penance. Lord Naaraayan appeared to her. She wished to become the holiest of holy waters, but lord told her,” It will not be possible because of the curse the sage Pulastiyar.
But you will become the Swaami PushkariNi in Venkata giri. I and Lakshmi Devi will reside on your banks for a purpose.
All my devotees with bathe in the Swaami PushkariNi on Sukla dwadasi day in Dhanur maasam at sunrise to wash away all their sins. You will become the holy water which will rid my devotees of all their past sins.”

யாரும் இல்லாத வனத்தில் வாழ்வது ஏன்?
மணிகளும், பட்டாடையும் அணியாமல் - நீ
மரவுரியும், துளசி மாலையும் அணிந்தது ஏன்?
ஒய்யாரமாக விமானத்தில் அமர்ந்து செல்லாமல்
மெய்யாகவே கால் பதிய நடப்பது ஏன் கூறு!" என

One day the Ashwini Devataas happened to see her. They fell in love with the beautiful lady at the very first sight. They asked her, "Who are you? Whose daughter are you? Whose wife are you? Why do you live alone in a forest?
Why do you wear maravuri and tulasi maalaa instead of gold jewels and rich silks? Why do you go by walk instead of travelling in style in a vimaanam?"
Sukanya replied to their questions."I am the daughter of King Sharyaati. I have married sage Chyavana. He is old, infirm and blind. So I take care of him to the best of my ability."
The Ashwini Devataas told Sukanya,"Give up your old and blind husband and choose one of us as your husband. We can live a long life filled with pleasure. We can enjoy visiting the beautiful gardens.
You were not born to do hard physical work. You are born to live in comforts and prosperity. Do not waste your youth and beauty in this forest. They will not last for ever. They will be lost for ever once they are gone!"
