1#9d. மது, கைடபர் (6)

மது கைடபர்கள் சொன்னார்கள் விஷ்ணுவிடம்,
“மறந்து இருக்க மாட்டாய் என நினைகின்றோம்!

நீர் மயமாக உலகம் இருந்தபோது எமக்கு
நீ தந்தாய் ஒரு வரம் அது நினைவுள்ளதா?

நீரே இல்லாத விசாலமான ஒரு இடத்தில்
நீ கொல்லலாம் எங்களை இப்போது!” என;

சிந்தித்தார் சுதர்சனத்தை விஷ்ணு – உடனே
வந்திறங்கியது அது அவர் வலக்கரத்தினில்

“வரம் தருகின்றேன் நீங்கள் கேட்டவாறே;
பரந்த நீரற்ற பிரதேசத்தை இதோ காண்பீர்!’

விண்ணை முட்டும் விஸ்வரூபம் எடுத்தார்!
மண்ணுலகை ஒத்த தொடையைக் காட்டினார்.

“இந்தப் பிரதேசத்தில் வையுங்கள் தலையை
தந்த வாக்கிலிருந்து பின்வாங்கிச் செல்லாதீர்!”

அப்போதும் செய்தனர் அசுரர்கள் ஒரு மாயம்!
தப்ப வேண்டும் எப்படியாவது உயிருடன் என்று.

நீட்டினர் தம் உடல்களை ஆயிரம் யோஜனைக்கு!
நீட்டினார் தொடையை ஈராயிரம் யோஜனைக்கு!

நாணமடைந்த அசுரர் வைத்தனர் தலைகளை
நாரணன் சுதர்சனம் வேறாக்கியது அவற்றை.

பரவின இறைச்சியும், ரத்தமும் கடல் நீரினில்
பரவிய இடமே பிறகு ஆனது இந்த பூதலமாக.

மேனியில் இருந்து தோன்றியது இந்த மேதினி;
வீணாகவில்லை மது கைடபர்களின் உடல்கள்.

வலிய அசுரர்களை வீழ்த்தவில்லை – தன்
வலிமையினால் நாரணன் நீண்ட போரில்!

மோகன சக்தியாகி மயக்கிய தேவியே
வேகமான அழிவுக்குக் காரணம் ஆனாள்.

“பராசக்திக்கு மிஞ்சிய தெய்வம் இந்தப்
பாரினில் இல்லை!” என்பது வேத வாக்கு.

1#9d. Madhu and Kaitaban (4)

Madhu and Kaitaban told Vishnu,”When the whole world was immersed in water, you had given us a boon. Do you still remember it? We want to make use of it now. We want to get killed by you only on a dry land devoid of any water.”

Vishnu contemplated on his Sudarshan. Immediately it came and landed on his right hand. “I remember that boon and I shall grant it to you now. Here is the dry land you wish to die on!”. Vishnu took his viswa roopam and his showed his thighs as large, flat and wide as the earth itself.

The asuras still wanted to play a trick and save their lives. They extended their bodies to the size of one thousand Yojana. (One yojana is approximately equal to eight miles). Vishnu was not surprised by this and extended his thigh to the size of two thousand yojanas.

The asuras felt ashamed now and quietly placed their heads on the large dry thighs of Vishnu. Sudarshan severed their heads from their bodies.

The flesh and blood of the mighty asuras fell in the sea. The earth was formed out of their bodies. It is called as medhini since it was formed of the meni of those asuras.

Naaraayanaa did not kill the might asuras by his strength or valor but only by the grace of Paraa Shakti who infatuated the asuras and clouded their ability to think.

“There is no power superior to the Paraa Shakti” is the gospel told to all humanity.

குறை குடம் தான் தளும்பி வழியும்;
நிறை குடம் என்றுமே தளும்பாது!
நெல்லின் பதர்கள் காற்றில் பறக்கும்,
நெல் மணிகள் என்றுமே பறக்காது!

இறைவன் தந்தான் இரண்டு செவிகளை,
நிறைய நிறைய நாம் கேட்பதற்காக!
இறைவன் தந்தான் ஒரே ஒரு நாவினை,
குறைவாகப் பேச வேண்டும் என்பதற்காக.

அறிவிலிகளும் அறிவாளர்களே, தங்கள்
திருவாயைத் தாம் திறக்காத வரையிலும்.
கன்று முட்டி, முட்டிப் பால் வேண்டுவது போல,
நின்று கேட்பவர்களிடமே நாம் பேச வேண்டும்.

பால் பொங்கிய பின் வெளியே வழியும்,
மனம் பொங்கி நிறைந்த பின்னரே,
பால் போல் இனிய சொற்கள் வழிந்து,
மனம் குளிர வெளியில் வரவேண்டும்.

பயனில்லாச் சொல் பாராட்டக் கூடாது,
புறம், கோள், வம்புகள் பேசக்கூடாது;
முத்து உதிர்ந்தார்ப் போலப் பேசினால்,
உற்று கவனிப்பார்கள் மற்றவர்களும்.

பேசாத போதுதான் நினைவலைகள்,
தூசாக அடங்கிச் சற்று அமைதியுறும்;
பள்ளத்தை நோக்கி ஓடும் வெள்ளம் போல,
உள்ளத்தை நோக்கி ஓடத் தொடங்கும்.

உள்முகமாகச் சென்றால்தான் பல
உண்மைகள் நமக்குப் புரிய வரும்.
உண்மைகள் புரிந்த பின்னர், நமது
வண்மைகள் நமக்கு நன்கு புலப்படும்.

அதிகம் பேசுபவராக இல்லாமல்,
மிதமாகப் பேசுபவராக மாறுவோம்;
சக்தி வாய்ந்த நம் வார்த்தைகளை,
யுக்தியுடன் நாம் பயன்படுத்துவோம்.

SILENCE IS GOLDEN

A half filled vessel spills over. A vessel completely filled does not spill over. An empty vessel makes the most noise. The chaff flies high in the blowing wind while the heavy grains fall down and stay on the ground.

God has given us two ears but only one tongue. So we should listen to more than what we talk! Even the dumbest fool can pass for an intellectual or even a philosopher…as long as he does not open his mouth and expose his ignorance.

We must talk only to persons who are willing to listen to us with interest-just like the cow responding to the stimulus of the calf be secreting more milk.

The milk kept on fire rises to the brim and then spills over. In the same way the mind must be filled with thoughts and only then they must come out through the mouth as words – to the satisfaction of the speaker as well as the listener.

We should not waste our time in useless talk, chit chat, bickering, back biting, complaining, commenting and comparing others. Less we speak, better the others will listen to it.

Only when we refrain from talking, our thought waves cease. The mind becomes free and starts exploring the inner self. Only when we travel inwards into our mind, the mysteries of the creation will be reveled to us. Our mind is mini universe in itself!

Let us not waste our words any more. Let us all become ‘Mitha Bhaashi’ like Lord Sri Rama and speak only limited and necessary words.

Words are powerful and sharp instruments. Let us learn to us them wisely.

# 26 (b). மாபாதகம் தீர்த்தது

கோபுர வாசலில் சொக்கட்டான் ஆடும்,
வேடுவன் வேடுவச்சி யாராக இருக்கும்?

சாந்தம் தவழும் முகத்தைக் கண்டால்,
சாதாரண வேடனாகத் தோன்றவில்லையே!

வேடுவச்சியின் தாயன்பைக் கண்டால்,
வீடுபேறு அளிக்கும் அன்னை போலிருந்தது!

பித்தனைப் போல கதி கலங்கியவனிடம்,
அத்தன் கேட்டான், ” என்ன ஆயிற்று உனக்கு?”

“எப்பிறப்பிலோ செய்த பாவங்களால் நான்
இப்பிறப்பில் என் அன்னையையே கூடினேன்!

குருவைப் போன்ற அருமைத் தந்தையை
அருவருப்புடன் நான் எரித்துக் கொன்றேன்!

பிரம்ம ஹத்தியின் பிடியில் சிக்கினேன்;
பிரம்மை பிடித்து நான் அலைகின்றேன்!”

“நல்ல இடத்துக்குத் தான் வந்துள்ளாய் நீ!
பொல்லாத பாவங்கள் தீரும் இடம் இது!

சொல்வதைக் கேட்டு அதன்படி நடந்தால்,
வல்வினை ஒழியும், பாவங்கள் அழியும்;

உண்ண வேண்டும் ஒருவேளை உணவே
மண்ணில் நல்லவரிடம் பிச்சை எடுத்து.

அடியவருக்கு அடியவனாகித் தொண்டுகள்
அடியவருக்குத் தொடர்ந்து புரிய வேண்டும்;

அதிகாலையில் அருகம்புல் சேகரித்து வந்து
பசுக்களுக்கு பச்சைப்புல் நீ தர வேண்டும்;

ஸ்நானம் மூன்று வேளையும் செய்துவிட்டு
ஸர்வாங்கப் பிரதட்சிணம் 108 முறைகள்;

தவறாமல் நீ இவற்றைச் செய்துவந்தால்,
தவநெறி அழித்துவிடும் பிரம்மஹத்தியை.”

“கொடிய நரகத்தில் உழல வேண்டியவனை
எளிய தவத்தால் காக்கின்றீரே நீங்கள்?”

வேடுவச்சி ஆச்சரியத்துடன் கேட்கவும்
வேடுவர் சொன்னார்,” நம் தொழில் அதுவே!”

அடுத்த நொடியில் மறைந்தனர் இருவரும்,
திடுக்கிட்டு உணர்ந்தான் அவர்கள் யாரென்று!

தொண்டு, சேவை, அங்கப் பிரதட்சிணம் என
மண்டிய பக்தியுடன் தவறாமல் செய்தான்.

மூன்றே மாதங்களில் மறைந்து போயின
முன்னர் செய்துவந்த பாவங்கள் எல்லாம்!

திவ்வியமான வடிவம் பெற்றுச் சிவனைத்
திவ்விய ஸ்தோத்திரங்களால் அவன் துதித்தான்.

# 26 (B) ABSOLUTION FROM THE SINS

A hunter and his wife were playing a game of dice near the gopuram. The hunter had such a compassionate face that he could not be an ordinary hunter! His wife had such a divinity about her that she could only be the Mother of the Universe!

The hunter asked the boy,”what is troubling you, young man?” The boy replied with remorse, “I must have committed many sins in my poorva janma. As a result of those, I coveted the body of my own mother! I killed my father in cold blood! I am being punished by brammahathi dosham”

The hunter replied, “You have come to the correct place. This is the city that absolves all kinds of sins and cleanses a person. If you do as I say, you will be rid of all your sins!” The boy was willing to do anything to get rid of his sins.

The hunter continued,”You must beg for your food and eat only once a day. You must serve the devotees of the Lord in every possible way.

You must gather the green grass and feed it fresh to the cows before sunrise. You must take bath thrice during the day and do 108 anga pradakshinam to the Lord every day. If you do all these regularly, your sins will be cleansed by this tapas.”

The wife of the hunter spoke now, “Are you trying to save this boy from hell?” The hunter replied, “That is been my job all along!” Then they both vanished suddenly.

The boy understood the real identity of the couple. He carried out the orders to the letter and was absolved of all his heinous crimes in three months’ time.

He got a wonderful form and sang the praise of the Lord.

1#10a. வியாசரின் தவம்

மேருவின் சிகரத்தில் தவம் செய்தார் வியாசர்.
விரும்பினார் ஒரு சத்புத்திரனைப் பெறுவதற்கு.

வாக்பீஜம் என்னும் ஏகாக்ஷர மந்திரத்தை
வான் வழியே வந்த நாரதர் உபதேசித்தார்.

மாயையினால் தேவியை மறந்து விட்டார்
மகாதேவனை தியானித்தார் வியாச முனிவர்.

பஞ்ச பூதங்களின் வல்லமையைப் பெற்ற
பிஞ்சு மகன் வேண்டும் என்பது அவர் தவம்

அன்னபானம் விடுத்துப் புரிந்தார் தவம்
ஆண்டுகள் ஒரு நூறு ஓடும் வரையில்!

எத்தனை முயன்றும் காண முடியவில்லை
புத்திர உற்பத்திக்கான அறிகுறிகள் எதுவும்.

சக்தியின்றி சிவனை மட்டு தியானித்ததால்
சந்ததியைப் பெறும் அறிகுறியே இலையோ?

தீர்மானித்தார் “சத்புத்திரனைப் பெறுவேன்
சக்தியைச் சிவனுடன் சேர்த்து தியானித்து!”

உலகம் முழுவது பரவியது தவ ஜ்வாலை
உள்ளம் ஒன்றி இமயத்தில் செய்த தவத்தால்.

கோபம் கொண்டான் இந்திரன் இது கண்டு!
“கோபம் வேண்டாம் வியாச முனிவர் மீது

தவம் செய்வது பதவியைப் பெறுவதற்கோ?
தவம் செய்வது புத்திரனைப் பெறுவதற்கு!”

கோபத்தைத் தணித்தார் சிவபெருமான்;
தாபம் தீர வரமும் தந்தார் வியாசருக்கு.

“சாந்தம், தேஜஸ், ஞானம், புகழ் பெற்ற
சத்திய சீலனைப் பெறுவாய் மகனாக!”

தவம் பலித்தது! வரம் கிடைத்தது!
தாபம் தீரப் பிறப்பான் நல்ல மகன்!

இருப்பிடம் திரும்பினர் வியாச முனிவர்,
விரும்பினார் அக்னி காரியத்தை முடிக்க.

அங்குத் தீக்கடையும் போது எண்ணினார்,
“மங்கையுடன் சேராமல் மகன் பிறப்பானா?”

1#10a. Vyasa’a penance

Vyasa wished for a son. He got the vaakbeeja manta upadesam from sage Narada. He contemplated on Lord Siva – forgetting about Devi – and did severe penance for one hundred years. Nothing happened.

He realized his folly of not including Devi in his penance. He decided to do penance on Devi and Siva and get a son who had the strength of the pancha booths – the five elements.

He went to Himaalayaa and did his tapas. The jwaalaa of the tapas spread in all the three worlds. Indra got angry as usual – since anyone doing severe penance meant that he might lose his power and ruler-ship over heaven.

Siva told Indra,”No need to get angry with Sage Vyasa. He is not doing penance to take you place in the heaven. He just wants a good son”. Siva blessed Vyasa, “You will get a son who will have saantham, tejas, gnaanam and become very famous.”

Vyasa felt happy that his penance had been fruitful. He returned to his abode and started to churn for fire. He was also wondering how he was going to get a son without the involvement of a woman?

அகத்தின் அழகு முகத்தில் தெரியும்;
முகத்தின் அழகை விடவும் அதிகமாக!
முயற்சி செய்தாலும் மறைக்க முடியமா
முன்னே வந்து நிற்கும் அந்த அக அழகை?

அசலும், நகலும் என்று வேறுபடுத்தி
அறியவே இயலாத வண்ணம் இன்று,
அற்புதமான பொருட்கள் பலவற்றை
அழகுத் துறையில் நாம் கண்டிடலாம்!

பட்டாம்பூச்சிகள் போல இறகடிக்கும்;
போலி கண் இமையின் நீள் நுனிகள்!
நாணம் கொண்ட ஒரு சிறு பெண் போல,
நாளெல்லாம் திகழும் இரு கன்ன நிறம்!

இருப்பதை மறைத்து வரையப்பட்ட,
வில் போன்ற நீண்ட புருவங்கள்!
கனிந்த ஆப்பிள் பழம் போல் ஒரு
கணத்தில் உருப்பெறும் இரு உதடுகள்!

தோலின் நிறத்தையே மாற்றும் சில
தோல் சலவை திரவங்கள், பொடிகள்;
மொழு மொழு எனத் தோன்றிடத் தேவை,
மெழுகு வகைகள் சிலவற்றின் சேவை!

இலை போன்ற மிகத் தட்டையான வயிறு;
இல்லாதது போன்ற ஒரு உடுக்கை இடுப்பு;
நகங்களுக்கும் உண்டு பல நிறப் பூச்சு,
நாளெல்லாம் இதே மூச்சு, இதே பேச்சு!

மாறிக் கொண்டே இருப்பதன் பெயர் தான்
மாண்பு மிகு நம் ‘சரீரம்’ என்று அறிவீரா?
மாறிக் கொண்டே இருக்கும் ஒன்றுக்காக
மனிதனின் பொருள், நேரம் வீணாகலாமா?

உடல் கிடைத்தது நல்ல சாதனை புரியவும்,
உலகம் உய்ய நல்ல சேவை செய்யவுமே!
உழைத்து, உடலைக் காட்சிப் பொருளாக்கி,
உலகத்தோருக்கு காண்பிப்பதற்கு அல்ல!

மணி வெளுக்க சாணை உண்டு,
மனம் வெளுக்க வழியும் உண்டோ என
மனம் வெதும்பிப் பாடுகின்றார் அல்லவா
மனம் கவர்ந்த தமிழ்க் கவி பாரதியார் ?

மனம் வெளுத்தால் நம் அகம் அழகுறும்.
முகத்தில் தெரியும் அந்த அகத்தின் அழகு!
முயற்சிகள் எத்தனை செய்த போதிலும்,
முக அழகு என்றும் அக அழகை வெல்லாது!

FACE…THE INDEX OF MIND!

Face is the index of the mind! The beauty of the inner self shows through the face much better than the skin-deep-beauty of the face.

Today the Cosmetics Trade has improved so much that at times we get confused as to whether the things we see /use are God made (natural) or man-made (artificial)!

Long curly eyelashes resembling the fluttering wings of a butterfly, the eternal tinge of blush on the cheek bones, the eyebrows resembling the rainbow and the thick luscious lips resembling a red apple are too good to be real!

There are creams and lotions to bleach the skin color and make a person fairer and products to make the body smooth as though waxed. Tummy as flat as a leaf, waist resembling that of a bee are the results of relentless workout at the gym.

Thoughts about the color of the hair, nails, toes and lips dominate the mind, every waking hour.

Human body is one which keeps continuously changing-every moment of human existence. In trying to keep something – destined to change and perish – constantly young and attractive, people waste their money, time and energy!

God had given the body for spiritual evolution and for serving others. It is not given to be tuned up with umpteen hours of work out at the gym and ‘built’ in to a piece worthy of exhibition by dressing scantily !

Tamil Poet Bharathi laments that there are ways and means to add brilliance to a diamond but there is none to clean up the filth in the mind of human beings.

A mind filled with good thought will shine through the face. If the mind is overflowing with filthy thoughts like Greed, Anger, Confusion, Miserliness, Ego and Hatred; no amount of make-up can make a face beautiful to look at!

# 27 (a). பரதேசி வாள்வீரன்



குலோத்துங்க பாண்டியனின் அரசாட்சியில்,
குடியேறினான் மதுரையில் ஒரு வாள் வீரன்;

பரதேசத்திலிருந்து இடம் பெயர்ந்தவன்,
பரமசாது மனைவி மாணிக்கமாலையுடன்

பயிற்சிக் கூடம் ஒன்றை அமைத்தான்,
பயிற்சி அளித்தான் பல இளைஞர்களுக்கு.

பரம பக்திமான், நிதம் ஆலயம் சென்று,
பரம சிவனைத் தொழும் ஒரு பண்பாளன்.

சிஷ்யருள் ஒருவன் சித்தன் என்பவன்;
சிஷ்யன் குருவை மிஞ்ச விழைந்தான்;

குருவையே மிஞ்சிவிட்டாதாக எண்ணி,
கருவம் கொண்டு அலைந்து திரிந்தான்;

குருவின் பயிற்சிக் கூடத்துக்கு எதிரே,
நிறுவினான் தன் பயிற்சிக்கூடத்தை.

வயதில் இளையவன் என்பதால் இவனிடம்
வயதான குருவை விட்டுப் பலர் வந்தனர்.

பெருமை, கர்வம், இளமை இவற்றுடன்
பொறாமையும் சேர்ந்து பெருகலாயிற்று.

“எல்லா வருமானமும் வேண்டும் எனக்கே ” என
எல்லை இல்லாத் தொல்லைகள் செய்யலானான்.

தாயை நிகர்த்த தன் குருவின் தாரத்திடம்
பேயைப் போல பெரும் காமம் கொண்டான்!

தனியே இருப்பவளிடம் சென்று கேட்பான்,
“இனியாவது இடம் உண்டா எனக்கு?” என்று!

நச்சரிப்பைத் தாங்கவும் முடியவில்லை,
அச்சம் இன்றி வாழவும் முடியவில்லை.

ஒரு நாள் அவள் கரம் பற்றி இழுத்தான்,
மிருகத்தைத் தள்ளி விட்டுத் தப்பினாள்!

“இறைவா! நீயே எமைக் காக்க வேண்டும்!
பரதேசிகளுக்கு யார் துணை வருவார்?”

பக்தனும், பத்தினியும் படும் பாட்டால்,
பக்த வத்சலனுக்கும் சினம் மூண்டது!

சித்தன் வழியிலேயே சென்று, வென்று
பக்தரைக் காத்திட முடிவு செய்தான்.

27 (A). THE PARA DESI MASTER

During the reign of Kulothunga Paandiyan, a man and his wife moved in and settled in Madhuraapuri. He was a teacher of sword fight and fencing. His wife was a good woman.

He opened a training center and taught the young men fencing. He was a great devotee of Lord Siva and used to visit his temple regularly.

Chithan was one of his students. At one stage he started feeling superior even to his own guru. He established another training center in front of his guru’s.

Many of the guru’s students migrated to Chithan’s school-since he was younger and stronger than the guru. He gave a lot of problems to the guru.

He eyed his guru’s wife with lust and pestered her to accept him. She got frightened and worried by his bold advances and prayed to Lord Siva to protect her and her husband.

They were para desis in Madhuraapuri and there was no one but the Lord to protect them.

மண்ணில் தோன்றும் மக்கட்செல்வம்
பெண்ணுடன் ஆண் இணையும் போதே.

எண்ணமிட்டார் வியாசர் இதைப் பற்றி
பண்ண முடியாது தவத்தைத் தியாகம்.

விண்ணில் கண்டார் ஒரு மின்னல்கொடி!
கண்டதும் மோஹித்தார் வியாச முனிவர்!

அசைந்தன அவள் அழகிய அங்கங்கள்;
இசைந்தன நெளியும் இரு புருவங்கள்.

அலை பாய்ந்தன வட்டக் கருவிழிகள்
அல்லாடின கொடியில் பருத்த கனிகள்.

சிற்றிடையோ கொடியிலும் மெல்லியது
விற்புருவம் எய்தது காமன் கணைகளை.

கரிய கூந்தல்; மூன்றாம் பிறை நெற்றி;
எரித்தன தைத்த பஞ்ச மலர் பாணங்கள்.

தவத்தையும் கைவிட முடியவில்லை;
தாபத்தையும் கைவிட முடியவில்லை;

இல்லறத்தால் கிடைக்கும் புத்திரப்பேறு
இல்லறம் அழித்துவிடும் துறவறத்தை!

செய்வது அறியாமல் திகைத்து நின்றார்
தெய்வச் செயலாக வந்தவளைக் கண்டு.

கட்டழகியோடு கூடி மகிழ்வதென்றுத்
திட்டமாக முடிவு செய்தார் வியாசர்.

1#10b. Mohini

Children are born only out of the union of a man and a woman. Vyasa knew this but he did not want to sacrifice his penance. Just then there appeared a divine woman – like a bolt of lightning in the sky. Vyasa fell head over heels in love with her at the first sight.

Her limbs were beautiful; her brows mesmerized him, her black beautiful eyes were restless and her beauty was intoxicating. Her hair was like the thick black clouds and her brow the crescent moon on the third day after new moon.

Vyasa was in a dilemma. He could not get over his love for this mohini nor did he wish to lose the power of his penance. She could give him a son but then the life of a householder will bind him thereafter.

Finally he decided to enjoy with Mohini at any cost.

மயிலும், குயிலும்



மயில் ஆடுவதற்கென்றே பிறந்தது,
மயில் அகவினாலோ கர்ண கடூரம்!

குயில் பாடுவதற்கென்றே பிறந்தது,
குயில் விரும்பினாலும் ஆட முடியாது!

இயற்கையின் நியதியை அறிவோம்;
இயல்பினை சற்றேனும் அறிந்தோமா?

நம் வாரிசுகளாக உதித்த குழந்தைகளின்
நல்ல திறமைகளை நாம் அறிந்தோமா?

விரும்பிய ஒன்றைச் செய்யும் போது
அரும்பிடும் ஒருவரின் தனித் திறமைகள்!

விரும்பாத ஒன்றைச் செய்ய மனம்
விரும்பாது போவது இயல்பல்லவா?

நாம் விரும்பியும் நமக்குக் கிட்டாததை,
நம் குழந்தைகள் மீது திணித்துவிடுவோம்!

நல்லது செய்வதாக நினைத்து அவர்க்கு
அல்லதை மட்டுமே செய்துவருவோம்!

மதிப்பெண் குறைவாக எடுத்தவனை, நன்கு
மிதித்தால் மதிப்பெண் கூடிடுமா? அவன்
தனித் திறமை எதுவென்று கண்டு, அதை
இனித்த முறையில் வளர்க்க வேண்டாமா?

ஒவ்வொருவருள்ளும் ஒரு சிறந்த திறமை
ஒளிந்து கொண்டு இருக்கின்றதே அதை

ஓங்கி வளரச் செய்து விட்டால், வாழ்வே
ஒளி மயம் ஆகிச் சுடர் விடும் அன்றோ?

கான மயிலிடம் பாடலையும், மற்றும்
கானக் குயிலிடம் ஆடலையும் தேடாதீர்!

பசுவிடம் கனிந்த பழங்களையும், மற்றும்
பாலை, மரங்களிடமும் என்றும் தேடாதீர்!

எது எது எங்கு எங்கு உள்ளதோ – நமக்கு
அது அது அங்கு அங்குதான் கிடைக்கும்!

இதுவரை நாம் செய்த தவறுகள் போதும்;
இனிமேல் நல்ல திறமைகளை வளர்ப்போம்!

A PEACOCK AND A CUCKOO

The peacock is born to dance. Its call is ugly and repulsive. On the other hand the cuckoo is born to sing. It can not dance even if it wants to!

We watch the Nature and learn these facts. But do we know the real nature of our own children? Do we really know their strength and weakness?

When we do things we like to do, we perform very well. But when forced to do something not to our liking, we jut make half hearted attempts that are not sincere.

Usually parents want their children to achieve whatever they themselves want to achieve but could not. They have the best intentions no doubt but they are not doing the best thing for their children.

If child scores less marks, the parents should try to find where lies the real problem and not just beat him. Can the boy improve his score as a result of the beatings? The parents must find out what interests him best and train him in that field.

There is a latent talent in everyone of us. If we discover them early in or lives and nurture them, we will emerge successful in our lives.

A word of advice o the parents…

Do not try to train a peacock to sing.

Do not try to train a cuckoo to dance.

Do not look for ripe fruits in cows.

Do not look or cow’s milk in trees.

We can get only what is there already. It is high time for the parents to reform their thinking and cherish and nourish the real talents of their children.

# 27 (b). அங்கம் வெட்டியது

ஆசிரியராக உருவெடுத்து வந்த
ஆதி சிவன் சென்றார் சித்தனிடம்;

“வாள் போர் புரிவோம் இருவரும்,
நாளை ஊருக்கு வெளியே!” என்றார்.

பழம் நழுவிப் பாலில் விழுந்தது!
கிழத்தை ஒழிக்க நல்ல தருணம்!

அதிகாலையில் எழுந்து அணிந்தான்
மிதப்புடன் போர்க்கோலம் சித்தன்.

மாணவருடன் கூடி வந்த குருவும்
பூண்டிருந்தார் அரிய போர்க்கோலம்!

இரண்டு வலிய சிம்மங்கள் போலும்,
இரண்டு பெரிய கருடர்கள் போலவும்,

பறந்தும், பாய்ந்தும் தாக்கினார்கள்;
மறைந்தும், வளைந்தும் தாக்கினார்கள்;

இருபது நாழிகைகள் தொடர்ந்தது
இணையில்லாத வாள் போராட்டம்.

குருவின் கையே ஓங்கி நின்றது,
இறுதியில் தெள்ளத் தெளிவாக!

“தாயை போன்றவளை விரும்பிய
தரம் கெட்ட உனக்கு தண்டனை;

கண்ணால் கண்டு காமுற்றாய்,
கண்களைப் பறித்தேன் இதோ!

நாக் கூசாமல் வரச் சொன்னாய்,
நாவை இதோ துண்டிக்கின்றேன்!

கையை பிடித்து இழுத்தாயே!
கைகள் பந்தாடப் படுகின்றன.

வஞ்சனை செய்து திரிந்தாயே!
நெஞ்சினை இதோ பிளந்தேன்!

ஒவ்வொரு அங்கமாக வெட்டிக்
கொன்று முடித்து மறைந்தார்!

குருவைத் தேடி மாணவர் செல்ல,
குரு கோவில் இருந்து திரும்பினார்.

இவர்களும் புகழ்ந்த மொழிகள்
அவருக்கு ஒன்றும் புரியவில்லை!

மாணவர்கள் கூறியதையே பின்னர்
மனைவியும் விளக்கிக் கூறியபோது;

“சொக்கநாதரின் திருவிளையாடல் இது!”
மிக்க மகிழ்ச்சி அடைந்தார்கள் அவர்கள்.

“பரதேசிக் காவலன் பரமசிவனே!” எனப்
பாரில் உள்ளோர்க்கு உணர்த்திவிட்டான்.

யானை மீது குருவும், மனைவியும் அரசன்
ஆணைப்படி ஊர்வலமாகச் சென்றனர்.

# 27 (B). DISMEMBERMENT

Siva took the form of the guru.He told Chithan that they both should engage in a bout of fencing to find out who was superior. Chithan was very happy that he could easily get rid of this man, once for all.

He wore his armor and got ready for the duel. The guru also donned his armor and came with his students. They fought outside the city limits. They clashed like two angry lions and flew at each other like two large garudas.

Both were well versed and well matched. The fight went on for 20 Naazhigai (8 hours). Guru established his supremacy over Chithan. He started scolding Chithan and dismembering his limbs.

“You Chithan desired the wife of your guru-even though she is like a mother to you! You will get your punishment now.
You eyed her with lust. I am plucking your eyes. You spoke sinful words. Off comes your tongue. You pulled her hands. Your own hands have been cut off now. You plotted against your guru. I will tear open your heart.”

The guru cut off all the limbs of Chithan, killed him and disappeared.

The students went looking for him and saw him returning from his visit to the temple.They congratulated him. The guru could not make head or tail of it. When he came home his wife revealed the true nature of Chithan. Her version agreed with the version of the students.

So it was Lord Siva who had come to punish the Chithan. The king was overwhelmed to hear the incident. He praised Siva as the “Protector of Para Desi”.

The king honored the guru and his wife by making them take a procession on an elephant back through the city.

1#11a. தாரையின் காதல்

பிருஹஸ்பதியின் மனைவி தாரை,
பிரமிக்க வைக்கின்ற அழகிய பெண்.

சென்றாள் ஒருமுறை சந்திரனின் இல்லம்;
வென்றான் அவன் அவள் மனதை அழகால்.

அறிவை இழந்து விட்டனர் இருவரும்.
வெறி கொண்டு குலாவி மகிழ்ந்தனர்.

“சந்திரனின் இல்லம் சென்ற என் தாரை
எந்தக் காரணத்தால் திரும்பவில்லை?”

சிந்தாகுலம் மிக அடைந்தார் தேவகுரு,
சந்திரனிடம் அனுப்பினார் மாணவனை.

“தேவகுரு பணித்தார் என்னைக் கூறும்படி,
தேவி நீங்கள் இல்லம் திரும்ப வேண்டும்!”

கண்டும் காணாமலும் சென்றாள் தாரை.
திண்ணமாக அலட்சியம் செய்தாள் அதை.

“சுவாமி மன்னித்து விடுங்கள் என்னை!
சுயபுத்தி இழந்து விட்டார் உமது பத்தினி!”

ஒருவர் பின் ஒருவர் சென்று அழைத்தும்
திரும்பவில்லை தாரை தன் கணவனிடம்.

சந்திரனிடம் மயங்கிக் கிடந்தாள் அவள்.
சந்திரனின் மாளிகை சென்றார் தேவகுரு.

“குருபத்தினியைக் கூடினாயா சந்திரா?
குருபத்தினி ஒரு தாய்க்கு சமம் அன்றோ?

பிரம்ம ஹத்தி செய்தவன், மதுக் குடித்தவன்,
குருபத்தினியைக் கூடினவன், பொன் திருடன்,

கொடிய பாவிகள் என்று அறியாயோ நீ ?
கொடிய பாவி ஆகிவிட்டாயே சந்திரா நீ!

தேவருடன் சஞ்சரிக்கும் தகுதி இழந்தாய்!
தேவையின்றி நிந்திக்கப் படுவாய் நீ இனி!

தீரப் பழிக்கு ஆளாவாய் உன்செயலால்!
தீராது அந்தப்பழி சிவனருளாலும் கூட!”

1#11a. Tara’s love affair

Tara was the beautiful wife of Bruhaspati – the Deva guru. She once went to the palace of Chandran – one of the students of her husband.

Chandran was known for his beauty and she fell in love with him madly. Chandran too loved Tara – the pretty wife of his guru and they lived happily for a long time.

Bruhaspati got worried that his wife did not return after visiting his student. He sent another student to Tara with the message that she must return to him immediately. The student conveyed the message to Tara but she ignored him and walked away displeased.

The student returned and told Bruhaspati, “Please pardon me sir for failing in my mission . I think you wife is infatuated with Chandran and seems to have lost her good sense.”

Deva guru sent some more of his students one after another but Tara did not return to him. Finally he himself went to the palace of Chandran.

He asked Chandran in a loud voice,” Did you enjoy the company of the wife of your guru? Don’t you know that Guru’s wife is equal to one’s mother?

The man who enjoyed his guru’s wife is as detestable as the man who did brahmahaththi or stole gold or drank wine. You have lost your dignity to mingle with the other Deva. You will be blamed for this wicked action by everyone. Not even the mercy of lord Siva can wipe away this sin!”

புதுமை வழி



முதுமைப் பருவத்தில் சோதனையின்றி வாழப்
புதுமை வழி உண்டு; அறிந்து கொள்வோம்!

“சொல்வதை மட்டுமே கேட்கணும்!
கேட்டதை மட்டுமே சொல்லணும்!”

எளிதாகத் தோன்றும் இவை இரண்டும்
எளிதல்ல என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்வோம்!

பிணைப்பே இல்லாது இருந்தால், நம் மேல்
பிணக்கம் கொண்டுவிடுவார் விரைவிலேயே!

என்ன என்ன என எப்போதும் கேட்டிருந்தாலோ,
எள்ளளவும் பிடிக்காது போய்விடும் யாருக்கும்!

நம் வயது, அனுபவத்தை மதித்து எப்போது
நம்மிடம் வழி கேட்டாலும், சொல்லணும் தப்பாது!

தொட்டும் தொடாமல், தாமரையிலை நீர் போல
பட்டும் படாமல் வாழ்ந்திடப் பழக வேண்டும்.

வாழும் நல்வழி இது என்று உணர்ந்து, இனி
வாழும் நாட்களை எளிதாய் அமைத்திடுவோம்!

SPEECH AND SILENCE

To live a problem-free-life as senior citizens, we have to remember and practice two Golden Rules.

The first one is to reply earnestly, sincerely and with interest to any idea/ suggestion/ advise sought from us – on any issue.

The second one is to listen with rapt attention to whatever is being told to us.

These two rules look simple enough but they are not so easy to follow!

If we keep aloof all the time, there will be no attachment between the members of the family.

At the same time if we keep on prying into every matter and business with curiosity, the youngsters will get exasperated.

But we must not show indifference when we are asked to get involved.

To put it in a nutshell, if we learn to live like a lotus leaf, always in contact

but do not dominate or pressurize in any way, we can live happily.
