IS LOVE BLIND?

One of the strangest things we find in nature is the attraction between the opposite poles and the repulsion between the like poles. It is the same with human mentality also. Like Sesame seeds and Rice, the opposites form a wonderful combination of Black and White.

We find men of small stature getting attracted to huge girls and vice versa. A pretty damsel often chooses a person who actually highlights her beauty by his crudeness.

This question arises in our mind time and again,” Why do such things keep happening all the time? Is Love really blind after all?” People say that they ‘fall’ in love! Why can’t they rise in love? Do they secretly accept that their love is their downfall too?

Love is blind or so it seems. Is it a dumb fool too? How can the boys and girls ‘falling ‘ in love, desert their parents – who had held them as the apples of their eyes – at a moment’s notice?

How can they hurt the feelings of their parents who have struggled all their lives to give the best to their children? How can they hurt the parents who have shown nothing but love?

How can the lovers keep themselves as the center of the world and wish that everything should happen according to their wishes? How can they become so indifferent and ungrateful?

Oh! Lord of love Manmatha! I request this from you. Before you shoot your flower arrows on the young boys and girls, please make sure that there is at least an iota of match between them in the various aspects that are bound to affect their lives later on!

24b. கால் மாறி ஆடியது.


சிவ ராத்திரியன்று நிகழ்ந்தன பல வகை
சிவ ஆராதனைகள் நான்கு ஜாமங்களும்;

வெள்ளி அம்பலவாணனின் திரு நடனம்
உள்ளம் களிப்புற்றுக் குளிரச் செய்தது.

“ஒரே காலைத் தூக்கியும், எப்போதும்
ஒரே காலைப் பதித்தும் ஆடும் அரசே!

வேதனை தரும் இந்தகைய அரிய
சாதனையின் அவசியம் என்னவோ?

பதித்த திருவடியை மேலே தூக்கியும்,
தூக்கிய திருவடியைக் கீழே பதித்தும்,

கால் மாறி ஆட வேண்டும் என் அரசே!
இல்லையெனில் நான் உயிர் தரியேன்!”

தன் உடைவாளை நாட்டி அதன் மேல்
தன் ரத்தம் சிந்தித் தன் உயிரை விடவும்

தயார் ஆகிவிட்டான் ராஜசேகரன்;
தாயுமானவன் மனம் கனிந்தான்.

அன்புக்கு மட்டுமே சிறைப்படும் சிவன்,
இன்னொரு காலைத் தூக்கி ஆடினார்!

இடது பதம் பதித்தார் – தூக்கியிருந்ததை!
வலது பதம் தூக்கினார் – பதித்திருந்ததை!

இறக்கும் எண்ணத்தைக் கைவிட்டுப்,
பிறவிப் பயன் எய்தினான் மன்னன்.

கவலையும், வருத்தமும் மறைந்தன;
கன்மம், ஆணவம், மாயை விலகின.

மனம், மெய், மொழிகளால் துதித்தான்,
கனம் குழையான் மலரடிகளை மன்னன்.

பாண்டியன் ஆடல் அரசன் அரனிடம்,
வேண்டினான் ஒரே ஒரு வரம் தருமாறு;

“கண்டு களிக்க வேண்டும் கால் மாறியதைத்
தொண்டர்களின் கூட்டம் என்றென்றும்! “

24 (B). CHANGING THE POSITION OF THE LEGS

It was a Siva Raathri day. Special abishekhams and pooja were performed in all the four jaamam. King admired the dance at Velli Ambalam and spoke to Lord Siva,

“You must change the positions of your legs my lord! You must plant your left foot which has been raised and lift your right leg which had been planted on the ground. Otherwise, I will sacrifice my life!”

He planted his sword and wanted to jump on it in order to end his life.

Lord Siva was moved to pity. He changed the position of his legs. He planted the left leg and lifted his right leg.The King was overwhelmed with joy!

All his sorrows and worries disappeared. His ego, karma and Maya vanished. He worshiped Siva with his mind, body and words. He begged Lord Siva for a boon!

The changed position of His legs must remain that way permanently for all his devotes to witness and worship in the future.

1#9a. மது, கைடபர் (3)

வியாபித்து இருந்தாள் நித்திரை ரூபமாக
விஷ்ணுவின் உடல் முழுதும் தாமஸசக்தி.

விஷ்ணுவின் உடலிலிருந்து வெளிப்பட்டு
விண்ணில் கலந்தாள் ஆதி பராசக்தியுடன்.

கண் விழித்தார் விஷ்ணு உடலை அசைத்து;
கண்டார் நடுங்கி நின்றிருந்த பிரம தேவனை.

“காதுக் குரும்பியிலிருந்து தோன்றிய அசுரர்கள்
வாது செய்து அழைக்கின்றனர் போர் புரிவதற்கு!

துரத்தி வருகின்றனர் என்னைக் கொல்வதற்கு!
சரணடைய ஓடி வந்தேன் எந்தையே உம்மிடம்!”

“அஞ்ச வேண்டாம் பிரமனே தஞ்சம் புகுந்த பிறகு;
கொஞ்சமும் உணரவில்லை அசுரர் என் சக்தியை!”

வந்து சேர்ந்தனர் மது கைடபர்கள் அங்கு;
“வந்து போர்புரி! அன்றேல் வந்து வழிபடு!”

“போர் புரியுங்கள் முதலில் என்னுடன்!” எனப்
போரைத் துவக்கினார் விஷ்ணு அசுரர்களுடன்.

பாய்ந்து வந்தான் மது விஷ்ணுவை நோக்கி;
ஓய்ந்து விடாது புரிந்தனர் கடின மல்யுத்தம்.

நீண்ட காலம் கடந்த பின் களைத்த அசுரன்
நீங்கினான் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவை விட்டு விட்டு.

கைடபன் பாய்ந்தான் விஷ்ணுவை நோக்கி
கைடபன் புரிந்தான் மல்யுத்தம் இப்போது.

நீண்ட காலம் கடந்த பின் களைத்த அசுரன்
நீங்கினான் மஹாவிஷ்ணுவை விட்டு விட்டு.

மாறி மாறிப் போர் புரிந்தனர் அசுரர்கள்
நேரம் தரவில்லை விஷ்ணு இளைப்பாற.

1#9a. Madhu and Kiataban (3)

Devi in her Taamasic form as Sleep had pervaded over Vishnu’s body. Now she emerged out of it and merged with Aadhi Paraashakti in the sky. Vishnu moved his limbs and woke up from his deep slumber. The first thing he saw was Brahma shivering with fear.

Brahma told Vishnu, “While you slept on two asuraas Madhu and Kaitaban were born out of the wax in your ears. They challenge me to fight with them. They chase me all over the place to kill me. I surrender to you my dear father! Please save me from these demons!”

Vishnu consoled Brahma saying, “No need to feel threatened anymore, dear Brahma! now that you have surrendered to me. Those asuraas do not know my power yet”

Madhu and Kaitaban who were chasing Brahma reached there. They made fun of Brahma again and said, “Either you come and fight with us or you kiss our feet and surrender to us”. Vishnu intervened and told the auras, “First you will fight with me and then you can think about fighting with Brahma.”

Madhu sprang upon Vishnu and they started to wrestle. It went on and on for a very long time until Madhu got tired. He let go of Vishnu and came away. Now Kaitaban sprang upon Vishnu and continued to wrestle until he became very tired.

Thus the two asuraas fought with Vishnu alternately taking rest in between their bouts but making sure that Vishnu did not get any time to rest or relax.

காகமும், நரியும் என்ற குட்டிக் கதையை
குழந்தைகளும் கூட நன்கு அறிவார்கள்.
கதையின் போக்குச் சற்றே மாறிவிட்டதால்,
கதையின் தலைப்பும் சற்று மாறிவிட்டது.

நரன் என்பது ஒரு மனிதனைக் குறிக்கும்;
நாரிமணி என்றால் ஒரு சிறந்த பெண்மணி.
நரியின் குணத்துடன் நாரியை வெல்லும்,
நரனின் தந்திரமே இங்கு காணப்போவது.

பொறுமையில் சிறந்தவள் பூமியைப் போல;
கருணையில் சிறந்தவள் ஒரு தாயைப் போல;
அறிவில் சிறந்தவள் ஒளிர் சூரியனைப் போல;
அன்பில் சிறந்தவள் குளிர் நிலவைப் போல.

இத்தனை சிறப்புகள் இருந்தபோதிலும்,
எத்தன் நரனிடம் அவள் ஏமாறுவது ஏன்?
மெத்தப் படித்தவளாக இருந்த போதிலும்,
மொத்தமாக ஏமாந்து போவது எப்படி?

தாம் பெற்ற பிள்ளைகளை, அவர்கள் முன்
தாமே புகழக்கூடாது என்கிறது மனு நீதி.
நற்குலத்தில் உதித்ததால், அவள் என்றும்
பெற்றோரின் புகழ்ச்சியைக் கேட்டதில்லை!

நரன் ஒருவன், நரியின் தந்திரத்துடன் வந்து,
நிரம்ப அதிகமாகவே அவளைப் புகழ்வான்
அவள் அறிவை முற்றிலும் மயக்கிவிட்டு,
ஆழ் குழியில் தள்ளி, அவளை அழிப்பதற்கு!

புகழ்ச்சியைக் கேட்டறியாத நாரிமணியும்,
புகழ்ச்சியில் ஏமாந்து மயங்கியே நிற்பாள்!
காகம் தொலைத்ததோ ஒரு சிறு வடையையே.
கன்னி தொலைக்கப்போவதோ தன் வாழ்வையே.

ஆதாயம் இல்லாமல் எவரும் ஒரு பாயும்
ஆற்றோடு போய்விடமாட்டார் அன்றோ?
ஆதாயம் என்ன தேடுகின்றார் என்று நன்கு
ஆராய்ந்து, ஆபத்தைத் தவிர்ப்பீர் நாரிமணிகளே!

ஐந்து அறிவு படைத்த காகம் ஏமாந்ததே
இன்றுவரை அழகிய கதையாக உலவுகிறது.
ஆறு அறிவு படைத்த நீங்கள் ஏமாந்தால்,
அது எத்தனை காலம் பேசப்படும் அறிவீரா?

THE FOX AND THE WOMAN

The title should have been The Fox and The Crow. But the story is slightly different. Hence the title too! ‘Naran’ denotes a man and ‘Nari’ a woman. This story is about a Naran who conquers a Nari with the cunning of a Fox.

The girls are as great as the Goddess of Earth in their Patience. They are as kind as the Universal Mother. They are as intelligent as the brilliant Sun. Why then do they get cheated by the cunning men?

Manu Dharma Sastra says that parent should not praise their children in their presence. Being born in a cultured and educated family, she has never listened to any praise at home. When a man praises her sky high, just as the fox did the crow, she becomes intoxicated by the praise and throws caution to the wind.

When a crow forgot itself it lost just a snack but the girl will lose her life and future . No one praises anyone else without an ulterior and selfish motive. If she is swept off her feet and gets carried away, her life gets out of her control.

So be on guard young girls! The story of the crow and the fox has been in circulation since several centuries. If you do anything rash, it will reflect on your family members for the rest of their lives.

25a. யார் குற்றவாளி?

குலோத்துங்கனுக்கு மகுடம் சூட்டித் தன்
குலப்பெருமையைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ந்தான்;
குலத்தின் இறைவன் அரன் திருவடிகளில்,
திளைத்தான் பேரின்பத்தில் ராஜசேகரன்.

மறையவன் ஒருநாள் மதுரையம்பதிக்கு,
மனைவி, மகவுடன் வனவழியே வந்தான்;
தாகம் என்று தவித்த மனைவிக்குத் தர
தாகம் தீர்க்க நீரைத் தேடிச் சென்றான்.

நடந்த களைப்பினால் வருந்திய பெண்மணி,
கிடந்தாள் மரத்தடியில் சற்று ஓய்வெடுக்க;
சிலு சிலுத்த ஆல மரக் கிளைகளிடையே
சிக்கி இருந்தது ஓர் அம்பு நெடுநாளாகவே!

வாட்டமுற்று கண்ணுறங்கிய பெண்ணின்
வயிற்றில் பாய்ந்துவிட்டது கூரிய அம்பு;
உதிர வெள்ளத்தில் மிதந்தவள் தன்
உயிர் துறந்தாள் ஒரு சில நொடிகளில்;

தண்ணீர் கொண்டு வந்த மறையவன்
கண்ணீர் வெள்ளத்தில் கலங்கினான்.
“ஒன்றுமறியாமல் உறங்கியவளைக்
கொன்று விட்ட பாவி யாரோ?” என்று!

மரத்தைச் சுற்றி நடந்து போன அவன்
மரத்தின் மறுபுறம் கண்டன் வேடனை!
தொடுத்த அம்புடன், பிடித்த வில்லுடன்,
மிடுக்கு நடையுடன், முறுக்கு மீசையுடன்;

மனைவியைக் கொன்று விட்ட மகாபாவி
அவனே என எண்ணினான் மறையவன்;
மனைவின் உடலைத் தோளில் சுமந்தான்,
மகனை மார்புடன் அணைத்துக் கொண்டான்;

வேடனையும் தன்னுடன் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு
வேந்தன் அரண்மனையை அடைந்தான் அவன்;
வேடன், “தான் ஒரு நிரபராதி!” என வாதிட்டான்;
வேந்தன் மதி மயங்கினான் இந்த விவகாரத்தில்.

எத்தனை வித சித்திரவதை செய்த போதிலும்
அத்தனையும் பொறுத்துக் கொண்டான் வேடன்;
தான் ஒரு நிரபராதி என்பதையே உறுதியாகத்
தண்டனிட்டபடிக் கூறிக் கொண்டு இருந்தான்.

சித்திரவதை உண்மைத் தெளிவாக்கவில்லை,
சித்தம் கலங்கினான குலோத்துங்க பாண்டியன்.
நித்தம் நித்தம் தொழும் வித்தகன் அருளால்
பித்தம் தீர்ந்து சித்தத் தெளிவு பிறந்திடுமா?

# 25 (A). WHO WAS THE CULPRIT?

It was the reign of king Kulothunga Paandian-the son of King Rajasekaran. A brahmin was walking through the forests with his wife and young son to Madhuraapuri. The lady became very thirsty and tired.

The brahmin told her to rest for a while under a tree and went to fetch water. A sharp arrow was lodged among the branches of that tree. When the wind blew and the branches rustled, the arrow got freed! It pierced the womb of the woman and killed her.

The brahmin was shocked to find his wife in a pool of blood, quite dead. He cried in despair and walked around the tree in an effort o locate the culprit.

He saw a hunter with a bow and arrow kept ready for use. He felt sure that the hunter had killed his wife. He carried the dead body of his wife on his shoulder, his son in his arms and set out to the king’s place with the hunter.

The hunter claimed that he was innocent and did not kill the woman. Since there was no one else in the vicinity, his words were not believed! He was put to torture but he never changed his statements.

The matter was now beyond human comprehension. The king decided to seek divine guidance in settling these matters without bending Dharma and justice.

கண்டனர் நீண்ட தொடர் போராட்டத்தை
விண்ணிலிருந்த பிரமனும், ஆதி சக்தியும்.

ஆண்டுகள் ஐயாயிரம் உருண்டு விட்டன!
மாண்டு போகவில்லை அசுரர் இதுவரை!

களைப்படையவில்லை மது, கைடபர்கள்!
களைப்படைந்தது விஷ்ணு மூர்த்தி தான்.

பல ஆண்டுகள் தொடர்ந்து போரிட்டாலும்
பலமும், சக்தியும் வளர்ந்தன அசுரர்களுக்கு.

சோர்வுற்ற விஷ்ணு சிந்திக்கத் தொடங்கினார்,
‘ சோர்வின்றிப் போரிடுபவரை வெல்வது எப்படி?

தந்திரமாகக் கொல்ல வேண்டும் இவர்களை! ‘
சிந்திக்கத் தொடங்கினார் விஷ்ணு ஓர் உபாயம்!

‘வினோத வரம் பெற்றுள்ளார்கள் இவர்கள்!
வினோதமாகக் காதுகளில் தோன்றிய அசுரர்!

விரும்பும் போது மட்டுமே நிகழும் மரணம் !
விரும்புவாரா எவரேனும் தன் மரணத்தை?

மரணத்தை விரும்ப வேண்டும் இவர்கள்!
சரணடைகின்றேன் சக்திதேவியிடம் நான்”

ஜோதி ஸ்வரூபமாக விண்ணில் நின்றிருந்த
ஆதி சக்தியிடம் முறையிட்டார் நாராயணன்.

“அஞ்ச வேண்டாம் போரில் உனக்கே வெற்றி !
வஞ்சிக்கிறேன் அசுரரைக் காமத்தில் வீழ்த்தி!

சஞ்சலம் இன்றிப் போர் புரிவாய் அசுரருடன்;
கொஞ்சமும் ஐயுறவேண்டா வெற்றி உனதே”

உறுதி மொழி அளித்தாள் ஆதிசக்தி தேவி
மறுபடி போரிட்டார் விஷ்ணு அசுரர்களுடன்.

1# 9b. Madhu and Kaitaban (2)

Brahma and Adhi Shakti watched the prolonged wrestling between Vishnu and the two asuras. It had gone on for five thousand years now and still the asura could not be killed!

They had not even become tired . Only Vishnu had become very tired and exhausted by then. Since the asuras had emerged from Vishnu’s ears, they were as strong as him and their strength grew as the war prolonged.

Vishnu started thinking now, ‘How can I win over them when they are so fresh and I am so exhausted and tired?
They can be killed only by a trick. They have obtained a rare boon from Devi that unless they wish to die, they could never be killed.

Will anyone wish for his own death? So first of all I must make them wish to die. Only Devi can make this miracle happen and I shall surrender to her now!’

He looked up at Aadhi Shakti who stood in the sky in her jyothi swaroopam and sought her help. Devi smiled at Vishnu and told him,’ “Do not get vexed. The victory shall be yours! I will make the asuras infatuated and lusty. Get on with your fighting. Have no doubts that you shall win in this war!”

[h=1]குடும்பமா? குழப்பமா?[/h]

கூட்டுக் குடும்பம் என்னும் அழகிய ஆலமரம்
பட்டுப்போய் விழுகின்ற அவலம் கண்டீர்!
“கூடி வாழ்ந்தால் கோடி நன்மை” என்று
கூவினாலும் காதில் விழுவதே இல்லை!

ஒருவர் ஊதியத்தில் வாழ இயலாமல்,
இருவரும் செல்வர் வெளியே பணி புரிய.
பூட்டிய கதவுகளால் வரவேற்கப்படும் சிறார்,
மாட்டிக் கொள்ளுவர் கெட்ட பழக்கங்களில்.

என்ன செய்தாலும் தெரியப் போவதும் இல்லை;
என்ன என்று கேட்க யாருக்கும் நேரமும் இல்லை;
தானே தனிக்காட்டு ராஜா என்று இருப்பதனால்,
தன் மனம் போனபடி எல்லாம் நடக்கலாமே!

கணவன் மனைவியர் இடையே தோன்றும்
பிணக்குகள், சில பல சிறு பிரச்சனைகள்.
பெரிவர்கள் இருந்தால் பாங்காய் பேசி,
சரி செய்து விடுவார்கள் பிரச்சனைகளை.

வளர்ந்து வரும் விவாஹரத்துக்கள் வரை,
வளர விடமாட்டார்கள் சிறு விவகாரங்களை.
வளரும் குழந்தைகளை மிகவும் நோகடிப்பது,
தளரும் தன் தாய் தந்தையரின் உறவல்லவா?

தன் வீடும், கூடும் காலியாகி விட்டதால்,
தனியே தவித்து, வெறுமையில் வாடி;
மனோ வியாதிகளும், உடல் வியாதிகளும்,
மாறி மாறித் தாக்குவதால் துவண்டு போய்;

வாழ்வே சுமையாகிவிட்ட வயோதிகர்கள்,
வாழ்வில் எதிர்நோக்குவது ஒன்றே ஒன்று.
தம் வாரிசுகளின் வாரிசுகளுடன் கூடி,
தம் மீதி நாட்களைக் கழிப்பதே ஆகும்!

மனோ வியாதிகள் உற்பத்தி ஆகாது.
மறந்தே போய்விடும் உடல் வியாதிகள்.
மாசற்ற மழலைகளின் ஸ்பரிசத்தால்
மாறியே போய்விடும் அத்தனையுமே!

அனைவருக்குமே நன்மை பயக்கும் அந்த
அருமையான வாழ்க்கை முறையை மீண்டும்
அரங்கேற்ற வேண்டாமா? ஆராய்ந்து கூறுவீர்!
அதற்கு ஆவனவற்றை செய்ய வேண்டாமா?

“கூட்டுக் குடும்பத்தில் குழப்பமே மிஞ்சும்!”
கூற்றில் உண்மை கடுகளவும் இல்லை.
தனிக் குடும்பத்தில் தகராறுகள் இல்லையா?
தனி நபர்கள் அதில் தலையிடுவது இல்லையா?

கூடி வாழும் போது பொறுமை வளரும்;
பொறுப்பும், சகிப்புத் தன்மையும் வளரும்;
பகிர்ந்து உண்ணும் நல்ல பண்புகளும்,
பரந்த மனப்பான்மையும் ஓங்கி வளரும்.

கூடி வாழுகின்றன கொடிய விலங்குகள் கூட;
கூடி உண்கின்றன கரிய காகங்களும் கூட;
கூடி வாழ்கின்றன எறும்புகளும், தேனீயும்;
கூடி மனிதர்கள் வாழ்வது எப்போது?

THE JOINT FAMILY SYSTEM.

The banyan tree called Joint Family is withering away very fast in the world. It has been replaced by the Nuclear family, Atomic family and will probably be by Sub Atomic Family in the near future.

One person’s salary is hardly enough to run a family due the spiraling prices of goods. So both the spouses are forced to earn to provide for the family.

Their children now known by the popular term ‘Latch Key Children” have enough temptations, freedom and time to get into bad company and bad habits. No one is going to find out. No one cares to find out either. So they are their own masters!

Every human relationship is subjected to stress and strain – including that between couples. If there are elder members in the family they will use all their tact, wisdom and experience in making sure that the situation does not become explosive.

The growing number of divorces can be avoided by the intervention of the elders in the family. The divorces affect the children worse than the adults.

“Empty-Nest-Syndrome” (E.N.S) is the most prevalent disease among the senior citizens of the world-especially in India where the joint family system had been in vogue for centuries.

Children leave home on various pretexts..higher education, job opportunities, marriage to a person living in another country etc. E.N.S abounds in these homes.

The only thing these senior citizens earnestly wish for, is the opportunity to live with their children and grandchildren. They desire the togetherness more than anything in the world and want to spend the remainder of their lives in loving and being loved.

All their health problems seem to vanish into thin air in the company of their loved ones! The doting children and the rejuvenating hugs of their innocent grand children act like an elixir of life.

The Joint family system is beneficial to all the three generations viz the seniors, the youngsters and the kids. There is a complaint that there will be a lot of confusion in the joint family system. But we find problems creeping up even in nuclear and atomic families.

People in Joint Family develop tolerance and learn the art of ‘caring and sharing’. Even animals and birds live in groups and flocks. Ants and bees live a highly developed community life in large colonies in perfect peace and harmony!

When will man learn to do this?

25b. பழி அஞ்சும் நாதர்.


சிறையில் இட்டான் வேடனை மன்னவன்;
மறையவன் செய்தான் இறுதிச் சடங்குகள்;
மனித முயற்சிக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவைகள்,
இனிதே தீர்க்கப்படும் இறைவன் அருளால்!

தஞ்சம் புகுந்தான் தன் குலப் பிரானிடம்,
அஞ்சினான்,”பழி சேருமே நீதி தவறினால்!”
கெஞ்சினான் தனக்குத் தெளிவைத் தரும்படி,
செஞ்சடையான் உரைத்தான் அசரீரியாக.

“இன்று நடக்கும் ஒரு திருமண நிகழ்ச்சி,
இரவில், செட்டிகள் வசிக்கும் தெருவில்;
மறையவனும், நீயும் செல்லுவீர் அங்கே;
குறைவின்றித் தெளிவு பிறக்கும் அங்கே!”

மாறுவேடம் பூண்டு கொண்ட மன்னனும்,
மறையவனோடு சென்றான் மண நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு!
திருமணக் கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து விட்டனர்
இருவரும் தங்கள் அடையாளத்தை மறைத்து.

அருகில் அமர்ந்தவர்கள் யார் தெரியுமா?
இருகிங்கரர்கள் யம லோகத்திலிருந்து!
பேசுவது கேட்டது இவ்விருவருக்கு மட்டும்,
ஈசன் திருவருளால், தெளிவு ஏற்படும்படி.

“மணமகன் உயிரைப் பறிக்க வேண்டும்;
மணமகள் விதவையாக மாற வேண்டும்;
வாலிப முறுக்குடன் ஆரோக்கியமாக உள்ள
வாலிபன் உயிரை எடுப்பது எளிதல்லவே!”

“நம்மால் செய்ய முடியாதது என்பது எது?
நம் ஆணைக்கு இயற்கையும் துணை வரும்!
இன்று காலையில் வனத்தில் மரத்தடியில்,
கொன்றோமே மறையவன் மனைவியை,

எங்கோ சிக்கி இருந்த ஒரு கூரிய அம்பாலே!
இங்கும் செய்வோம் அது போலவே ஏதாவது.
மங்கள வாத்தியங்கள் முழங்கும் வேளையில்,
மருண்ட மாடு அவனை முட்டச் செய்வோம்!

குடல் சரிந்தவனின் உயிர் ஒரு நொடியில்
உடலை விட்டுப் பிரிந்துவிடும் அல்லவா?
கடமையைச் செய்ய வந்துள்ள நாம் இருவர்
திடமான மனதோடு இருக்க வேண்டும்.”

மங்கள வாத்தியங்கள் நன்கு முழங்கின;
மங்கலப் பெண்கள் குதூகலம் அடைந்தனர்;
மங்கள நாணை அணிவிக்கும் வேளையில்
மருண்டு விட்ட மாடு மாறிவிட்டது நமனாக!

சிந்தை தெளிந்தனர் சென்றிருந்த இருவரும்;
எந்தை அருளால் மன மயக்கம் ஒழிந்தது;
எந்தக் குற்றமும் செய்யாத வேடனுக்குச்
சொந்தம் ஆயின பல வினோதப் பரிசுகள்.

“தாயை இழந்து தவிக்கும் பாலகனைத்
தாயன்புடன் போற்றி வளர்த்திட நீயும்
வேறு மணம் புரிந்து கொள்!” என மன்னன்
வேதியனுக்கும் பொன், பொருள் அளித்தான்.

பழியினின்றும் தன்னைக் காத்து, நீதியின்
வழிகாட்டிய வெள்ளி அம்பலவாணனை;
மொழிகளால் வாழ்த்தியும், போற்றியும்,
விழிகளால் பருகியும், பலவாறு தொழுதான்.

# 25 (B). JUSTICE DONE BY LORD

The hunter was thrown in the jail.The brahmin performed the last rites of his dead wife. The King prayed in Siva’s temple.
The God told him to go and attend the wedding which was to take place in the Vaisyas’ street that night.

The king wore a disguise.He went to the wedding with the brahmin and mingled with the crowd. There were two Yama kinkaraas sitting next to them. They were conversing like human beings but no one could hear them except the king and the brahmin.

The first kinkaraa asked, “How are we going to kill the young man who is going to get married when he is in such good health and spirits?”

The second kinkaraa replied,”Nothing is impossible for us! Even the nature will help our cause. You know how we killed the brahmin’s wife today morning with a arrow which was lodged in the tree for years!

We can do something similar here also. First we will make the cow in the front yard get scared with the music. Then it will charge like mad and gore the groom to death.”

When the musical instruments suddenly blared, the cow got frightened. It snapped the rope by which it was tied.
It gored the groom just as he was about to tie the mangala suthra.

The king and the brahmin now knew who was the real culprit and how the woman got killed. The hunter was set free immediately with a an apology and many lovely gifts.

The brahmin’s child needed a mother to take care of it. So the king told him to remarry. He also gave him enough wealth to lead a comfortable married life.

The King thanked and praised the Lord who was always faultless and just in all his dealings.

தொடர்ந்தது மல்யுத்தம் மீண்டும் அசுரருடன்;
தளர்ந்து விட்டார் விஷ்ணு மிகமெலிந்து வாடி!

தோன்றினாள் அம்பிகை ஜகன்மோஹினியாக!
ஊன்றினாள் காமவிதையை அசுரர் நெஞ்சில்!

கடைக் கண் பார்வை காமன் பாணமாகித் தாக்க;
தடையின்றி விழுந்தனர் அசுரர் மோகவலையில்!

மங்கையின் புன்னகை கள்வெறி ஊட்டியது!
அங்க அசைவுகள் அலைக் கழித்தன அசுரரை.

அறிவு கலங்கியது; உடல் முறுக்கேறியது.
வெறுத்தனர் போர்த் தொழிலை இருவரும்.

விரும்பினர் புவனசுந்தரியின் கருணையை.
விஷ்ணு பேசினார் தேவியின் குறிப்பறிந்து.

“வியக்கின்றேன் உங்கள் தோள் வலிமையை!
வியக்கின்றேன் உங்கள் போர்த் திறமையை!

அளிக்கின்றேன் உங்கள் வீரத்துக்கு ஒரு பரிசு;
தெளிவுபடுத்துங்கள் விரும்புவது என்ன என்று!”

நகைத்தனர் அவ்விரு அசுரர்களும் அதைக் கேட்டு
‘பகைவனிடம் இத்தனை நகைச்சுவை உணர்வா?’

“யாசிப்பது உன் பழக்கம் ஆயிற்றே நாராயணா!
யோசிக்கிறோம் நாங்கள் உனக்கு வரம் அளிக்க!

தொடர்ந்து போர் புரிந்தாய் நீ எமக்குச் சமமாக;
கடந்து ஐயாயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் சென்ற போதிலும்!

என்ன வேண்டுமோ கேள் தயங்காமல் எம்மிடம்;
சொன்ன சொல் தவறோம் அசுரர்கள் ஆயினும்!”

“வெல்ல வேண்டும் நான் உங்களைப் போரில்!
கொல்ல வேண்டும் நான் உங்களைப் போரில்!

சொல்ல வேண்டும் இறக்க விரும்புவதாக!
அல்லது நிகழாது உம் மரணம் அறிவேன்!”

எதையாவது தந்து இவனை அனுப்பி விட்டு
எளிதாகச் சுவைப்போம் மோகினியை எனக்

கனவு கண்ட அசுரர்களுக்கு இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி
நினைக்கும்போதே மனம் கசந்து வழிந்தது.

‘வரத்தை வைத்து விஷ்ணு எம்மை மடக்கினான்
வரத்தை வைத்தே நாம் அவனை மடக்குவோம்!”

Vishnu resumed the wrestling with the asura wondering when he would win the war. Devi now appeared as a world class beauty or a jagan mohini. She infatuated the asuras with her dazzling appearance. Her sidelong glances worked like the Cupid’s arrows and the asuras fell madly in love with her.

Her sweet smile intoxicated them. Her lovely figure and form made them tremble with desire and long for her proximity. Their intellect became clouded and shrouded. All they wanted now was to enjoy with this heavenly damsel at any cost.

Vishnu took the hint of Devi and started talking to the asuras. “I am deeply impressed by your strength and valor. I am deeply impressed by your knowledge in the warfare. I want to give you a gift to show my appreciation. What shall it be?”

The mighty ausras had a hearty laugh on hearing this. “Begging is your profession oh Naaraayanaa! Actually we wish to give you a gift since you fought with us for five thousand years and were almost equal to us. What do you wish for?”

This was the opportunity Vishnu had been waiting for. He told them without hesitating,”I want to defeat you in this war. I want to kill you in this war. But this can’t happen unless you yourselves wish to die. So I want both of you to wish for your death now!”

The asuras were shocked beyond words! They had thought that they could bestow some gift or boon on Vishnu, send him away so that they could enjoy the company of the beautiful maiden undisturbed. They never suspected that their gift would boomerang and make them die.

Still all was not lost. Vishnu had trapped them using their gift. They would trap him by using the boon given by him long ago!”

உலகினை வெறுத்து, உண்மையைத் தேடி;
உள்ளத்தை அடக்கி, உன்னித் தவம் செய்த;
ஒரு முனி மடியில், விழுந்தது சிறு எலி;
பருந்திடமிருந்து, திமிறிப் பிழைத்தது.

தன் தவ வலிமையால் அச்சிறு எலியை,
தவழும் குழந்தையாய் மாற்றினான் முனிவன்.
தவத்தையும் மறந்து, குழவியைப் பேணி,
தாயும், தந்தையுமாய், மாறினான் முனிவன்.

காலம் பறந்தது, நாட்கள் உருண்டன;
கண் கவர் கன்னியாய் வளர்ந்து நின்றாள்.
காலம் தாழ்த்தாமல் கடி மணம் முடிக்க,
எண்ணினான் முனிவன், தண் அருளோடு.

அருமை, பெருமையாய் வளர்த்த மகளை,
அன்புடன் பேணும், கணவனைத் தேடினான்.
சிறுமியும் உரைத்தாள், தன் சீரிய கணவன்,
சிறந்தவனாகத் திகழ வேண்டும் என.

ஒளியுடன் வெப்பமும், உமிழ்ந்துயிர் காக்கும்,
ஒளிக் கதிரவனை அழைத்தான் முனிவன்.
“உலகினில் சிறந்தவன் நீயே அதனால்,
வலக்கரம் பிடிப்பாய் என் சிறு மகளின்”.

“ஒளியும் வெப்பமும் உமிழ்ந்த போதிலும்,
ஒளி குன்றிடுவேன் ஓர் கார் மேகத்தால்.
என்னைக் காட்டிலும் சிறந்தவன் மேகமே,
சின்னப் பெண்ணை அவனுக்கு அளியும்.”

சொன்ன கதிரவன் சென்றபின் முனைந்து,
மன்னுயிர் காக்க மா மழை பொழியும்,
மண்டிய மேகத்தை அழைத்தான் முனிவன்.
வேண்டியபடி மணம் புரியச் சொன்னான்.

“ஊதும் காற்றால் உருக்குலைவேன் நான்.
ஊரார் அறிவார், காற்றே வலியவன்.
உங்கள் மகளை அவனுக்கே அளியும்”.
தங்காமல் சென்றான் காரிருள் மேகம்.

ஓடும் காற்றை அழைத்தான் முனிவன்,
தேடும் கணவன் அவனே என்றான்.
“ஓடும் என்னையும் வாடச்செய்யும்,
ஒருவன் உள்ளான்; அவன் இந்த மலையே!

என்னைக் காட்டிலும் வலியவன் மலையே,
சின்னப் பெண்ணை அவனுக்கு அளியும்.”
மலையிடம் சென்றான் மாதவ முனிவன்,
நிலைமையைச் சொல்லி, பதில் எதிர்பார்த்தான்,

“வலியவன் நான் என்பது உண்மையே! ஆயினும்,
எலியிடம் தோற்றுப் போவதைக் காண்பீர்.
சிறிய உருவம், ஆயினும் வலிய முயற்சியால்,
பெரிய என்னையும் துளைத்திடுவான் எலி.”

மலைத்து நின்றான் முனிவன், ஆனால்
மகிழ்ந்து நின்றாள் முனிவரின் மகள்.
தனக்கு மிகவும் இசைந்த கணவன் அந்த
தன்னிகரில்லா எலியே தான் என்றாள்.

இனத்தோடு தான் இனம் சேரும் அன்றோ!
அனைத்தும் அறிந்தவன், இதை அறியவில்லை.
கனத்த மனத்தோடு, வருந்திய போதிலும்;
மனத்துள் வாழ்த்தி, மணம் செய்வித்தான்.

கதிரவனையும், கார் மேகத்தையும் விட,
காற்றையும், கனத்த கல் மலையையும் விட,
சிற்றெலி தான் சிறந்தவன் என்று நம்மால்
சிரிக்காமல் சொல்ல முடியுமா பாரும்!

BIRDS OF A FEATHER…!

A great rishi had denounced the world and was absorbed in severe tapas. A tiny mouse struggled and escaped from the clutches of a kite flying above and fell own on his lap. He was deeply moved to pity to see the scared little mouse shivering all over. He transformed he muse to a beautiful baby girl.

Caring for his new found daughter became his prime concern. He became her father, mother, friend, philosopher and guide. Years rolled by and the girl attained marriageable age. The rishi would wed his daughter only to the most worthy person. None but the best could become his son in law.

The Sun God was the most powerful in the entire creation. He requested the Sun to accept his daughter for a wife. But the Sum God replied politely, ” I may appear all powerful but it is not true! A small could can hide me completely screening off my heat and light rays. There is no doubt that the cloud is stronger than me.”

Th rishi approached the cloud and begged him to marry his daughter. The cloud replied politely, ” Sire I can hide the Sun and block his rays. But a strong wind can blow me out of shape and destroy me. Undoubtedly the wind is stronger than me.”

Now the rishi approached the wind and requested him to marry his daughter. The wind replied, ” Sire I can blow the cloud out of shape no doubt but a mountain can stop me completely. You can very well see that a mountain is much stronger than me.”

The rishi approached the mountain. The mountain replied, “Sir! I can stop the wind but the little mouse there can make tunnels in my body. He is stronger than me. He may be a better husband to your daughter.”

The rishi stood speechless. But his daughter jumped with joy and excitement.,”Yes father! He will make a perfect husband for me!” The rishi was crestfallen but performed the wedding after transforming the mouse into a handsome young man.

The rishi knew everything but had forgotten the fact that birds of a feather flock together.

# 26 (a). மாபாதகம் பீடித்தது.

குலோத்துங்க பாண்டிய மன்னனின்
குதூகலம் நிறைந்த ஆட்சிக்காலம்;
அவந்தி நகரில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தான்
அமைதியான அந்தணன் ஒருவன்.

சிலை போன்ற அழகிய மனைவிக்குச்
சிறு வயதிலேயே மகன் பிறந்தான்;
நெடுநெடுவென வளர்ந்துவிட்ட அவன்
கொடியவன் ஆனது அந்தோ பரிதாபம்!

வாலிபம் அடைந்தவனுக்கு பேதங்கள்,
வஞ்சியருக்கும் தாய்க்கும் தெரியவில்லை!
அழகு குறையாத தன் தாயையே அவன்
அனுபவிக்க விரும்பினான் காமாந்தகன்!

தாயும் மனம் மாறிப் பேயாகி விட்டாள்;
தந்தை மட்டும் என்ன செய்வான் பாவம்!
தாயும், மகனும் மிருகங்களாக வாழ்வதைத்
தந்தை கண்டும், காணாமல் இருந்து வந்தான்.

“வெளியே சொன்னால் வெட்கக் கேடு,
தெளியும் அறிவு சிறிது காலத்தில்;
ஆசை அறுபது நாள், மோஹம் முப்பது;
அவர்களாகவே வழிக்கு வருவார்கள்!”

எது தந்தைக்குத் தெரிந்து விட்டதோ
அது என்றுமே ஆபத்து இருவருக்கும்;
புது வாழ்வு தொடங்கும் முன்பாகவே
எதிர்ப்புகளை அழித்துவிட வேண்டும்!

தந்தை என்றும் தயங்கவில்லை மகன்,
அந்தணன் என்றும் எண்ணவில்லை அவன்;
துண்டு துண்டுகளாகத் தந்தையின் உடலை
மண்வெட்டியால் வெட்டி, எரித்துவிட்டான்!

இரவோடு இரவாகப் பொன், பொருளுடன்,
அரவமில்லாமல் தப்பிச் சென்றுவிட்டனர்;
காட்டு வழியே நெடுந்தொலைவு சென்றபின்
மாட்டிக் கொண்டனர் கள்வர் கூட்டத்திடம்.

வழிப்பறி வேடர்கள் வந்து சூழ்ந்தனர்;
வழிப்பறி செய்தனர் பொன், பொருளை;
கட்டுக் குலையாத பெண்ணைக் கண்டதும்
இட்டுச் சென்றனர் அவளைத் தங்களுடன்!

ஒரே இரவில் நிகழ்ந்தன இத்தனையும்!
அருமைத் தந்தையை வெட்டிக் கொன்றான்;
பொன்னும், பொருளும் களவு போயின;
இன்பம் அளித்த தாய்-மனைவியுடன்!

இத்தனையும் போதாது என்பது போல
அப்பனின் ஆவியும் துரத்தி வந்தது!
பித்தனைப் பீடித்தது அதற்குத் துணையாக,
பிராமணனைக் கொன்றதால் பிரம்மஹத்தி.

அல்லும், பகலும் அவனை வாட்டி வதைத்தன;
செல்லும் இடமெல்லாம் தொடர்ந்து வந்தன;
செய்வதறியாமல் அலைந்து திரிந்தவன்
தெய்வத்தின் அருளால் அடைந்தான் மதுரையை.

# 26 (A). THE ULTIMATE SIN!

During the reign of Kulothunga Paandian, there lived a brahmin in Avanthi. He was a quiet man by nature.He had a very beautiful wife, who bore him a son at a very young age.

The boy grew up fast and became a young adult. He turned out to be very wicked and desired his own mother! She was proud with her beauty and consented to his weird wishes.

The brahmin came to know of this fact. He was filled with shame but could do nothing to stop their affair. He hoped that they would grow out of their infatuation and become become responsible human beings.

But he was wrong! The son got very disturbed since his father knew the truth. He killed his father with a spade in cold blood. He cut the body to several pieces and burnt them.

He bundled up all the movable properties he possessed and escaped in the quiet of the night with his mother,through a jungle.

In the jungle the robbers waylaid them.They took away his precious bundle and his mother in addition to it. Suddenly he had became all alone in the world. He lost everything he had in a single night.

The ghost of his murdered father started chasing him. Brammahathi dosham also closed in-since he had killed a brahmin in cold blood.

He became like a man possessed and wandered aimlessly till he reached the city of Madhuraapuri.
